Welcome to today's episode of the Mindset Mentor Podcast. I am your host, Rob Dial.
And if you have not yet done so, hit that subscribe button so that you never, ever miss
another episode. Today, we're going to be talking about all of the opportunities that
are around you in your life right now. And before I dive into it, I do want to preface it
and say this, please don't think that by me saying this and diving into this, that I am ignoring or
being unempathetic to everything that's happening in the world, to the coronavirus, to the people
that are sick, to people that have lost their jobs, to people who have died or had loved ones die.
I don't want to talk about that. I want to talk about something completely opposite, but please
in me not talking about the bad things that are talk about something completely opposite, but please in me
not talking about the bad things that are happening, please don't think of it as me being
unempathetic to them. Because what I really truly want to talk to you about is how you can grow and
learn and become better and possibly set yourself up for the rest of your life. Because right now
there are opportunities all around you. And the real question that I have for you
is what are you focusing on throughout the day?
Because there might be more opportunities
right now in front of you
than you've ever had in your entire life.
Opportunities to impact the world,
opportunities to help other people,
opportunities to make a business,
opportunities to make more money than you ever have.
Now, if you listen to what most people are saying,
it's the time to be scared, it's the time to be fearful, It's the time to not start a business. It's the time to do
all of those things. That's what we hear, right? But it's like, if you want to take money advice,
would you rather take it from a millionaire or would you rather take it from someone who's
homeless, right? Of course, you have to realize that most people on the news are not successful
business owners. Most people that are writing the articles that you're reading are not successful business owners.
You know, if you lost your job, what are you focusing on? Are you focusing on the job that
you lost and how you feel about the job that you lost and how you're still pissed off or that you
resent that you lost your job? Or are you focusing on getting income somewhere else? Are you focusing
on finding a new job? Or are you focusing on starting that business you've been
wanting to start your entire life what are you focusing on is a real question
because the opportunities are there you just have to figure out where to go get
them it's like I think it's a I think it's a Benjamin Franklin quote he says I
believe in luck but what I've come to find out is that it's it's dressed in
overalls and disguises as opportunities and hard work you have to realize quote. And he says, I believe in luck, but what I've come to find out is that it's dressed in
overalls and disguised as opportunities and hard work. You have to realize there's opportunities
everywhere around you. Are you focusing on the job that you lost? Are you focusing on going to
get a new income? If you lost your job or you lost your income, your number one job should be
getting a job. That should be what you're focusing on. Not sitting around and being worried about it.
Are you focusing on the fear that people are talking about? Are you focusing on all that fear? Are
you focusing on love and courage, the complete opposite of fear, of going out and doing something
great? You know, if your business has been shut down, the company that you work for, maybe the
one that you own, are you just laying back and just waiting for this to pass or are you pivoting?
Are you doing something different? You know, I had a friend that was at a Best Buy the other day
and Best Buy, you obviously can't walk into it, but what's cool is you can actually order online
and somebody will come out with gloves, you know, wipe down your package for you and deliver
directly to your car. That's pivoting. We call that pivoting. You know, Ford
is obviously not selling a whole lot of cars right now because people aren't able to go to the car
dealership and buy cars. So they teamed together with GE and they're making ventilators now.
And they're supposed to make 50,000 ventilators this month, right? So what happened was their
business got smashed. And then they said, we need
to pivot. We need to figure out a way to solve a problem. And that problem was we don't have
enough ventilators. So we're going to figure out a way to team up with GE, use all of our factories
to create 50,000 ventilators. They've never created a ventilator before, but guess what?
They figured it out. They pivoted
Anheuser-Busch, you know, the company that makes Bush beer and all the different, I don't know,
another type of beers they make. They make a lot of different beers. They're in charge of a lot of
beers and distribution, massive, massive company. They decided that they figured out that they can
use their manufacturing that they currently have in the distribution that they currently have to
make hand sanitizer. What is
that? That's filling a void. That's finding opportunities in everything that's happening.
You know, I have a friend who works for a plastic company and the day that everything got really,
really bad, he got a phone call from the owner of the company. He said, Hey, we're going to have to
let these three people go. And he's like, no, absolutely not. I'm going to figure out a way
for her to work. And so what did they decide to do? Because they make plastics for airplanes, mostly aeronautical.
They make a whole bunch of planes and plastics and everything like that, just super high grade
plastic. So they said, because obviously there's not a whole lot of planes that are being built or
that are flying right now, what do they do? They pivoted. And now they're using that same plastic that they were.
And what are they doing? They're creating actual masks for doctors and people who are in the medical field. So they didn't have to fire anybody. It's called pivoting. Entrepreneurs,
true entrepreneurship is finding a problem and solving it. That's what true entrepreneurship is.
Guess what? The reason
why this is there's so much opportunity because there's a lot of problems right now. Entrepreneurs
solve problems. I have a friend who's a really great entrepreneur and he says, being an entrepreneur
is finding somebody else's problem and making it your own. Finding what it is. Oh, there's not
enough masks. Let's figure out how we can make enough masks. Oh, there's not enough ventilators. Let's figure out how we can make ventilators.
Oh, this is going on. We need to do this. This is going on. This is,
this is, and we just pivot. That's all that it is. It's solving other people's problems.
Hey podcast right now.
So a question I have for you, and I asked this the other day in a group that I was coaching,
I said, what do people need right now? Because people will always buy what they need. So what
is it that people need from you right now? How can you solve a problem for your community,
for your neighborhood, for your city, for the world, whatever it is. Because here's the
thing that most people don't realize is some of the biggest companies in the world have been
started during a recession. And the reason why is because those companies find a problem,
they solve the problem, and then they grow exponentially. They don't make a product that
people don't need. They make a product that is a necessity
or becomes a necessity or solves a problem in the time of need, aka now. Hyatt was started
in a recession. Burger King was started in a recession. FedEx was started in a recession.
Microsoft was started in a recession. MTV was started in a recession. MTV was started in a recession.
Trader Joe's was started in a recession. Sports Illustrated was started in a recession. GE
was started in a recession. HP was started in a recession. General Motors was started in a
recession. Disney was started in a recession. Salesforce, Google, Facebook were started in a recession. These are some of the largest
multi, multi, multi, multi-billion dollar companies were started in a recession.
So if you're buying into the fact that businesses are supposed to be failing right now,
you're not taking the right advice. What you're doing is you're looking at what everybody else
is saying and not going, huh? It seems to me that there's more problems than there ever have been, which means that there's
more opportunities to solve those problems. Whether it's you want to start your own business
or you want to go to the owner of your business and say, hey, I've got a great idea. What if we
were to do this? And I'll come up with the plans of do it. just put me in on it, give me 10% of sales,
or give me 10% of profit, whatever it is.
Here's the thing that you have to realize.
It's never, ever, ever about the lack of resources
in the world.
Your life is never about the lack of resources.
People love to say, oh, I don't have enough time,
or I don't have enough money,
or I don't have enough skillset,
or I have too much debt, and it's never about lack of resources. It's always about lack of resourcefulness.
That's what it truly is. So if you're trying to start your business, you want to start for
the longest time. If you're trying to become a coach, or a fitness coach, or a mindset coach,
or a life coach, or a meditation coach, or a wellness coach or a meditation coach or a wellness coach. Now is
the time to do it because now is when people need those the most. So it's always about being as
resourceful as you possibly can be. Because when it seems like things are at their worst, that is
when there's the most problems. And when the most problems are there is when the most problems need
to be solved. And what do entrepreneurs do? They find problems, they decide to make it their own problem, and then they make it their mission
to solve that problem in some sort of way. And so what I want you to do and what I want you to take
from this episode is look around you in your community, in your neighborhood, in your city,
in the world, and ask yourself, how can I help? What do people need right now? Because here's the thing,
it'd be great if you made a lot of money, but it'd be even better if you made a lot of money
by helping people and helping the world, wouldn't it? So why don't you find the opportunities,
the places where you can fit and you're in the right place and you're like, this right here
seems to be an issue. My skill set lines up perfectly with this. Let's see how I can build
a business or build a product that could change the world or change my community or change my
town or change my city so that I can help people out around me and also be able to make money doing
it. Because that's the secret sauce. If you have a job that you hate and you haven't been fired yet,
but now you have more free time, let's try to build that business you've always wanted to build. If you've been fired, let's try to figure out a way for you
to make that money as quick as you possibly can. Whether that's helping the community, whether
that's creating a new product, whether that's creating a new business, whether that's going
to somebody who has a business and saying, Hey, I have an idea. Will you cut me in on it?
And being very resourceful, like very resourcefulness, very resourceful with everything
that you do.
Because sure, you might not have the money right now, but you could have the ideas and you could
have the time. And you go up to somebody who has the money and you say, hey, I've got an idea.
I've got time. I've got the skillset. Let's make this work. That is what you call being resourceful
because it's never about the lack of resources. It's always, always, always
about the lack of resourcefulness as to why somebody fails. So if you want to be really,
really successful or solve the world's problems or help people out there around you, number one,
you got to take action. You got to take a lot of action. And number two, you got to be extremely,
extremely resourceful. So figure out what the problems are
around you and how you can help solve those problems and change the world at the same time.
