But don't take my word for it.
Listen to somebody
who's already part of the group coaching here.
Hey, everybody.
It's Brett Goldstein from New York.
Just wanted to give Rob a huge shout out.
I've been working with him on the one-on-one coaching program for about a month and a half now.
And I have to say, it's really been amazing to have somebody to be able to strategize with and
hold you accountable to the things you say you're going to do has been invaluable. So keep up the
great work, buddy. And I really love working with you. develop habits that successful people have. Because whether you realize it or not, we all have habits. We have good habits, we have bad habits, and habits make up our lives. Our brain
uses so much energy that it wants to create habits and patterns and things that we can do to go on
autopilot. That being said, we probably have a lot of habits that we want to get rid of.
So what I'm going to do is I'm going to go over five of the top habits. There's quite a few more that are inside of the book, which you can download. But I'm going to go over what I
feel are the five most important that will have the biggest impact on you today. So the first thing
is successful people, it's an interesting fact, but they tend to wake up very early. Not every
single one of them, but most of them, like 99% of them, end up waking very, very early.
And the reason why is because they try to get more done before everybody else wakes up.
So let me give you a couple people just so you can have an idea of some of the most successful people in the world and how they spend their mornings.
Jack Dorsey, who is worth $2.7 billion.
He founded Twitter and also Square as well.
He wakes up at 5.30 in the morning,
meditates, and then goes on a six-mile run. Richard Branson, who's worth $4.8 billion,
who founded Virgin Group, opens his blinds so that at 5.45 in the morning when he lives on
his private island, he can wake up with the sun. He eats breakfast and then immediately works out. Tim Cook, who is the CEO of Apple,
who's worth $785 million, wakes up before 4.30 a.m. and is always in the gym by 5 a.m.
Howard Schultz, who founded and is the CEO of Starbucks, is worth $2.5 billion and he wakes
up at 4.30 a.m. and goes for an exercise and walks his dogs.
Steve Jobs, I'll give you the last person, was known to wake up at about, well, he was worth $11 billion at the time of his death, just so you know. He was known to wake up at 6 a.m. at the
latest and go work out at the office every single morning. And so you can tell successful people
wake up early. And I'm going to talk to you about morning routines on the next episode, which is going to be on Wednesday. I'm going to talk to you about that.
But one thing that you want to know is if you tend to sleep in or you tend to wake up when
your alarm goes off and it's like the last minute that you have before you have to start getting
ready for work, one tip that I'll give you, start waking up an hour early and develop a morning
routine. I'm going to talk to you more about morning routines on Wednesday, like I said.
So that's the first thing is make sure to start waking up early if you want to develop
a habit of successful people.
Number two, the second habit they have is they are very good at setting goals and writing
them down.
Now, it seems interesting that that would be one of the ones that we put on here, but
most people don't write down their goals.
They have a little bit of an idea of what their goals might be,
but they don't really have them solidified and clear, like extreme clarity.
And then they don't write them down.
And Harvard did a study a long time ago.
It was a 30-year study and found out that only 3% of their students at the time
actually wrote their goals down on a piece of paper.
And those 30 years later, those 3% were 10 times more successful than the other 97% combined.
So just the act of writing your goals down on a piece of paper makes it real in the world.
Your brain makes the connection of, oh, this is real now. Now I need to start working for it.
And writing it down also makes you clarify. The problem is most people don't clarify their goals at all. And then they never know what
they're actually working for. So the second thing is to make sure that you set goals,
write them down on a piece of paper. The next one is they have mentors and coaches,
whether that's free, whether that's paid mentors or coaches, all of them seem to have many, many... I think the study
that I read says the average person who's a millionaire has had at least seven mentors
or coaches throughout their life. People who have helped them along the way. And the reason why
they do this is because if you have somebody who's a mentor or somebody that you pay as a coach,
the reason why that's good for you is because they are further along the path than you are.
And instead of you having to figure it out and make mistakes and you learn from trial and error,
you learn from them and they can have 10, 15, 20 years of experience in whatever it is you're
trying to learn. And you can learn all of that in a couple of years. They are going to shorten
your learning curve. So the average millionaire has multiple, multiple mentors. And still at the time that they like to
get to being a mentor, they have multiple ones up until that point. And a lot of them still
have mentors all the time. I hear speeches. I listen to speeches. I read books. I do all of
these things. And I hear these millionaires and sometimes billionaires are super successful people
and they still talk about their mentors. There's a lot of people that are,
not a lot, but some of the most successful billionaires pay Tony Robbins $1 million a year just to speak to him and have him as their mentor. These are people that are worth billions of
dollars of paying him a million dollars a year. That's his minimum. So it really makes you
question if those people are paying coaches and mentors, if we're not
there yet, don't you think it'd be a good idea for us to start investing in ourselves?
And that's why I always say that investing in yourself is the greatest return you will
have of any investment you'll ever make in your entire life.
So that's the third thing is they have mentors.
Number four is they believe in themselves.
And this is an interesting one. They have positive self-talk. they believe in themselves. And this is an interesting one. They have positive
self-talk. They believe in themselves. They've accomplished so much that of course now they
really believe in themselves. But you have to realize you cannot create a positive life by
talking negatively to yourself all the time. And this is something that most people who are
successful know is that you have to believe in yourself in order to actually go out and achieve something. You have to believe in yourself before
anybody else will. And so you have to think of your mind as a garden. You may have heard me say
this before, but if you read the book, there's a book called As a Man Thinketh. It's about 80 or
100 years old. It's an older book. As a Man Thinketh, it's called. And that book, he says that
if you were to think of your mind as a garden and you're
the gardener, you can't plant strawberry seeds and expect tomatoes to grow.
It's impossible.
That will never happen.
Just as the same way that you could never expect to have negative thoughts in your head
all the time and expect to have a positive life.
You can't talk down to yourself all the time and talk to have a positive life. You can't talk down to yourself all the time and
talk negatively to yourself and expect that your results in your life are going to be positive.
It's impossible. It's not going to happen. Just like you can't put strawberry seeds in the ground
and expect that tomatoes are going to grow. So think of your mind as a garden and you're the
only gardener that has access to it. And for years, if you're not, if you have not been
practicing positive self-talk,
for years, there have been weeds growing in your garden. It's your job that when those weeds,
those negative thoughts pop up, that you pull them out and you do not allow them to exist.
That is your job and your job only. Imagine your mind is a garden. You're the only gardener.
The more that you take care of your garden, the more successful you will
be. If you think of any garden, the more time you put into it, the better your fruits of your labor
will be. So successful people believe in themselves and they understand the value of positive self-talk.
The next one, number five, is they read often. The average CEO reads 60 books per year.
I'm going to let that sink in for a second. The average CEO reads 60 books per year.
I personally, the most that I've ever read in one year is 40. So 60 is still 50% more than what
I've ever read. And that's a lot of books. That means that the average CEO reads more than one book per week. More than one book per week. So ask yourself, how often are you reading?
And mostly, just so you know, these are not fiction. Some of them read fiction, obviously.
There's got to be some fiction there. But they're working on themselves all the time. You start to
notice a habit or you start to notice a pattern in these habits. They wake up early because they're
working on themselves. They have goals, number two, because they work on themselves. Number three,
they have mentors to help them work on themselves. Number four, they talk positively to themselves
because they are working on themselves. And number five, they're reading often at least one book per
week, which means they're working on themselves. There's a pattern
here. They're constantly working on themselves. And so they read often and they don't think that
they know everything clearly or else they wouldn't read if they thought they knew everything.
So they're humble in knowing, I don't know everything. I need to learn more. I'm going
to force myself to learn more. So if you could take anything from learning these five habits
out of the nine, I believe nine or 10 that are in the book that you can download,
what you could take from it is this. Constantly work on yourself the way that they are constantly
working on themselves as well. They're not where they want to be. So what do they do?
They don't work on the external world as much as they work on the internal world. And that's
what you should do. So if you're someone who wants to work on yourself or you want to start
reading, once again, you can literally download this book for free,
this ebook at mwfmotivation.com, The Hack Your Goals, The Step-by-Step Guide to Achieving Success.
You can download it right now and you could start reading your first book of the year or whatever
it might be. First book in a while. Who knows? You can download it and you can get it for free
right there if you want to. But what you want to take from this is this. Work on yourself as much as you possibly can.
Because who you are now is going to be exactly the same in a year from now,
unless you decide to work on yourself and put time into growing yourself every single day.
So with that, I'm going to leave you the same way I leave you every single episode.
Make it your mission to make somebody else's day better.
