Welcome to today's episode.
Today we're going to be talking about a man named the Iceman and why he's been influential
in my life in the past few months.
So I'm going to talk about a guy named Wim Hof, W-I-M-H-O-F.
And so, you know, he is a Dutch guy who's considered a Dutch daredevil.
And why he influences me is this, because he has basically been able to change his life
to do things that humans, you know, we never thought that humans could do, that scientists
are freaking out trying to understand how this guy is able to change his body through meditation and through
breathing. So stick with me and I'm going to tell you about this guy. So just so you have an idea
of who Wim Hof is, he holds 20 different world records at this point in time. I'm going to tell
you a couple of them just so you have an idea of how crazy he is. He climbed 20,000 feet to Mount Everest wearing nothing but shorts. Let me say
that again. He climbed Mount Everest wearing shorts. Okay. Another thing, he's known for
running a marathon without any water in the desert, 26.2 miles, zero water in the desert. He also ran a marathon. He's
the only human ever to run a marathon in the Arctic Circle. Ready? In shorts and barefoot.
He ran a marathon in the Arctic Circle in shorts and barefoot. And he also submerged himself in an ice bath for two hours, hooked up
to electronics. And they found out that his core temperature in two hours did not change at all.
What's crazier about it is this. When they actually measured, they were like, this is crazy.
We need to figure out what this guy is doing because he breathes and meditates before he goes into an ice bath, before he does these things.
They measured his blood content before meditation and breathing. They measured it after right before
and then they measured after right before he goes into submerging himself in an ice bath.
Here's what's crazy. They measured it right before and right after meditation and breathing.
He was able to create three times more antibodies in his blood by meditating and breathing.
Let me say that again. He was able to personally, through his mind and through breathing, create
three times more antibodies in his blood.
So he's also the pioneer of this breathing method which is super easy, I'm going to show
it to you, and cold immersion.
And so he's got something called the Wim Hof Method which is amazing and it teaches you
how to breathe, it teaches you how to meditate and how to stretch with that as well.
And he's been able to scientifically prove for the first time that people can influence
their own immune system and nervous system with just the power of the mind.
Scientists have been studying this guy and he's driving them crazy because he's changing
everything that they originally thought was true.
It's all done through his breathing exercise and it's all backed through scientific research.
So is this crazy enough for you? Because now I'm gonna tell you about this guy
and kind of the way he does it.
So it's a super simple technique of how to really,
and once again, you can Google this guy.
He's got tons of stuff on, you can Google him,
you can YouTube him, W-I-M-H-O-F.
And just to give you an idea of what he does,
he's gonna sit down into meditation
and you can do this at any point in time,
just so you know.
If you're going to meditate or if you just want you know for 30 seconds to get your mind off of something or to relax is this you take a really deep breath and then you let it out you don't
have to force it out you take a really deep breath and you just kind of let it fall out
and you do that 30 times and And then at the 30th breath,
you breathe in as deep as you possibly can and you hold it for as long as possible.
Here's what's crazy. By doing this technique, you actually get more oxygen in your blood and
in your body, which if you know anything about an alkaline environment or an acidic environment,
the more oxygen in your body, the better, the less chance of disease or cancer or any of those things.
But what it does is it puts so much oxygen into your body and into your blood,
you need to breathe less and you can hold your breath longer.
So I'll give you an idea of how crazy this is.
On average, I could hold my breath for about a minute and 15 seconds. Once I started doing this technique, within one week, I was able to hold my breath
for three minutes and 15 seconds. This guy Wim can hold his breath for seven minutes.
Why? Because through breathing, you're actually able to get more oxygen into your body.
You're able to get more oxygen into your blood.
And oxygen, of course, is the main component that we all need.
We need water.
We need oxygen.
And so if you can get more of it in your body, there's a million benefits of what it can
do for you.
Breathing can do for you.
But it's going to make you have more energy.
It's going to make you have less stress.
It's going to be able to meditate. You're going to be able to meditate better. You're going to be able to calm your mind. You're going to have healthier skin. You're going to feel better.
Your cortisol, which is your stress hormone, goes down. All of these things just from doing
the most simple thing that we know how to do, breathe. That's it. And so what you do is this.
You take one deep breath and you let it out and
you do that 30 times. On the 30th time, you hold your breath and that is considered one set.
That's one set. You're going to do three of these, three sets, and you're going to hold your breath
as long as you can at the 30th one. So deep breath would be, and then just let it fall out. You do
that 30 times. On the 30th one, you hold your breath as long as possible and then just let it fall out. You do that 30 times on the 30th one, you hold
your breath as long as possible. And then you breathe out and then you start the, start it all
over again so that you do, that's one set. You're going to do three sets of it. I do this before
every, actually during every single meditation, the very beginning of it. In my group coaching,
I actually have a guided meditation that I made personally for myself that has a breathing
technique that has visualizations that has affirmations, all of those things that I use
every single morning. And this is the staple, the one thing that I do to get myself into a deep
meditation. Here's what's crazy. When you hold your breath, you'll realize that you can hold
your breath longer than you actually believe you can. The reason why is because this breathing
technique flushes your body with tons
of oxygen so your body doesn't actually need to breathe as much as it normally does. And for me,
I start to feel some buzzing. I start to feel some tingling. And the reason why is because there's so
much oxygen in your blood rolling around, which is a great thing. I wouldn't do this while driving.
I 100% would not do this while driving. I usually do it while laying down. And when I take a deep
breath, your diaphragm,
which is your belly, should be the thing that's raising, not your chest. That's a deep breath.
You don't need to get into the whole logistics and go crazy thinking about it. All you need to
know is this. Breathe in 30 times and out 30 times. Hold your breath for as long as possible.
That's one set. Do it three times. And what you'll realize is that you'll be able to get focused.
Some people, believe it or not, actually will start to see hallucinations from doing this
because there's so much more oxygen running through your body that your body's not even
used to it. I do this every single day. And here's another great thing that he does.
Do one set. Whenever you're super stressed out,
whenever you're stressed out or you're tired or you just need like a reset, you need something
in your body to reset. You can't figure out what it is that you need to reset, right? You're not
feeling right. Your emotions are all over the place. You're pissed off. You're stressed. Whatever
it might be, you do one set, 30 breaths in and out. Hold your breath for as long as possible.
And as you're holding your breath, pump out as many pushups as you possibly can.
Here's what's absolutely nuts about this is that when I do this, I can usually do about
20, 25 pushups while breathing, just normal pushups.
But when I flush myself completely full of oxygen in, out, in,, in out, and then I hold my breath, I can do more pushups holding my breath
than I can normally just breathing just like I normally would. The most I've ever gotten to
without taking another breath was 60 pushups before needing to breathe. What this does is
it resets your fight or flight mechanism. And when you're doing pushups and not breathing and pushing yourself to do that, what it's
actually doing, you can't really stress out.
You can't think about other things.
You can't think about your bills.
You can't think about what somebody said to you or what's going on in your life.
And it brings you to present moment.
You have to think about the fact that you got to get these pushups in.
You're doing as many pushups as you can before you go and actually do this.
So I recommend trying it.
It's amazing.
But just know if you do this super simple breathing technique,
anytime that you feel that you need to be reset, you need to be centered,
you need to become more present.
If you do this breathing technique, it will help you.
