Once again, mondayemail.com. It is absolutely free. And I'll start sending you emails to improve
your mindset. Today, we're going to be talking about the journey of self-mastery. We're going
to talk about the journey of becoming better. We're going to talk about the journey of life
that you are on. We're going to talk about the journey of life that every single person is on.
on. We're going to talk about the journey of life that every single person is on. None of us really know what the meaning of life is. We have theories. Some people have religions that tell them what the
meaning of life is, but none of us have a really clear idea of what it is. If nothing else, what if
we're just on this journey to go through this self-improvement, to become the best we possibly
can, to start off at one point and to go as far as we possibly can
to becoming the person we can and actually bringing our potential out. And we're going
to be talking about this journey that you're on and the journey of what self-improvement looks
like. And for me, I don't see self-improvement as just something that you do. I see it as a
lifestyle. The same way that if you want to lose weight and you go, well, I'm going to get on a
diet. A diet is just something that you do. It's something that is temporary. You're going to need
a lifestyle change to really lose weight. And that's the way that I see personal development
is it is a lifestyle of going, you know what? I'm going to work on myself and just be a little bit
better every single day. I'm not trying to master myself between today and tomorrow. I'm not trying to
realize that I'm going to be perfect in the next few days. It's going, you know what? I just want
to be 1% better today. I want to be a little bit better today than I was yesterday. And here's why.
Your current circumstances, where you are in every single aspect of your life, how much money is in
your bank account, your relationships, your career, your family, everything about you, all of your current circumstances are the lagging results
of all of the habits, the traits, the behaviors, and actions that you've taken in the past.
It's that simple. Your current circumstance is the lagging results of your habits, your traits,
your behaviors, and everything that you've done in the past. So results don't come right away though. So where you are now is based off of what you did six
months ago or a year ago. It's not really based off of what you did yesterday. And so if you look
around and you see your life and you're like, hey, my life is pretty good. Well, you made some good
decisions and took some good actions over the past six months, year, two years, three years.
If you look around and you're
like, ah, not really stoked about the life that I have around me, you have to realize those are
also your results from the actions that you've taken over the past few years. If you don't like
where you are, you chose to make the decisions that would get you to where you are. Yes, I'm
saying you chose to make those decisions. If you're really going to step up
into self-mastery, you have to realize there is nobody for you to blame except for yourself.
And so whenever you see where you are, the real way to step into and not be a victim,
but to step into the champion's mindset is to go, everything is my fault because I made decisions,
some sort of decisions in the past to get me here. Now you might say, oh yeah, but you know, I married this person and we got a divorce last year and I've been a wreck
since then. And that person cheated on me and it's their fault that they cheated on me. Okay. Well,
yeah, but also at the same time, did you make the decision to marry that person?
So we've got to realize that we are always the ones who start and actually make the choice to
be with that person, make the choice to not go to the gym, make the choice to be with that person, make the choice
to not go to the gym, make the choice to not save money, make the choice to not study, and make the
choice to not try to further our career, instead watch Netflix. We make the choice. And so if we
really want to step into the driver's seat of our life, we have to look at everything of our life
and say, it is my fault. All of these things stemmed in some sort of way from a decision that I at least made at some point in time. And this is why,
you know, trying to change can be really hard for people because they look around at where they are
and they're like, I don't like where I am. And they work for a little while and they work for
a little while, but they don't see results right away. You know, like if you've ever gone, you
know what? I don't like the way my body looks. And then you look in the mirror and you're like, I want to lose weight. And you
work out for two weeks and you work out really hard and you take care of yourself. And you look
in the mirror and you're like, I've lost one pound in two weeks and I don't look any different.
It can be depressing when you see all of the work that you put in and then you don't feel like
you've gotten the results. You usually don't see results right away. And that's why it's really
hard for most people. Your habits come from the story that you're telling
yourself about yourself though. So the actions that you take, the habits that you have all come
from the story that you're telling yourself. You know, some people listening resonate with the
phrase, I'm lazy. They've said, I'm lazy. Oh, I procrastinate. Yeah, I'm lazy. I
procrastinate. Well, if that's what your identity is, your actions are going to line up with that.
If you think you're a lazy, if you think you're a procrastinator, guess what you're going to do?
You're going to be lazy and procrastinate because your actions will always line up with your
identity. Some people say, oh yeah, but being overweight runs in my family. So you are probably taking actions that
still allow you to be overweight. I just love, I love food too much to lose weight. I've heard
that one before. All of these things are your identity and your identity is your choice. It
is not something that you're just gifted with and you're like, you have to, you know, you don't,
you're not born, your parents say, hey, this is your identity. This is who you are. This is who you're going to be. And this is how it's
going to be until the day you die. No, no, no. Your identity is a choice. You are deciding
to procrastinate. You are deciding to sleep in. You are deciding to be overweight,
which means if we want the opposite of those things, we can just decide something different.
But your actions and habits will stem from what you believe about yourself. If you think you're overweight because your entire
family is overweight, why would you ever work out? Why would you ever eat healthy? If it's in your
genes and there's no way to get around it, why the hell would you ever make healthy decisions?
Because you're going to be overweight either way, right? Might as well not go to the gym and
eat some greasy food and some pizzas instead of going to the gym and eating a chicken salad,
right? So we have to identify what our internal story is that we're telling ourself.
There's a story that's playing in all of our heads all the time, all day long. It's been
playing for so long, you're probably not even aware of it. But it's like, if you wake up in
the morning and you immediately put on Spice Girls, it's like, oh, I'll tell you what I want,
what I really, really want. We all know that song. You're probably, 90% of people listening
to this podcast right now already have that song stuck in their head. And you're going to repeat
it. Like you're going to get done with this podcast, and maybe the next one, the next one,
the next one, in an hour from now, you're going to be sitting there, you're going to be at your
desk typing and be like, well, I'll tell you what I want. And you're gonna be like, shit, Rob,
I got a song stuck in my head, right? The story that you're telling yourself is like a song that you're singing in your head all the time.
You have to ask yourself though, is it a song that you want to be singing? And so you have to
change the internal story. Changing your behaviors, true behavior change is actually a change of your
identity. This is who I am will dictate everything that you do. And there's proof of all of the decisions
that you've made in your past all around you. There is proof of your decisions all around you,
your actions all around you, your habits all around you. Your bank account is a result of
your spending habits. It's also a result of your earning habits. Your body is a result of your spending habits. It's also a result of your earning habits. Your body is a
result of your eating and working out habits. Your business is a result of your hard work
and dedication and your work habits or lack thereof for all of those. Hey, don't you love it
when you make small changes and then suddenly everything becomes so much easier? That's what
it's like when you start hiring with Indeed. Indeed is a hiring partner where you can attract, interview, and hire all in one place. So instead of spending hours on

So if you look around your life, what you're looking at is the results from actions that
were taken months to six months to a year ago to two years ago to three years ago.
Every action is a vote for the type of person you want to become.
So James Clear says, I love that quote because if you think about that, every action that we take is a vote for the type of person we want to become. So James Clear says, I love that quote, because if you think about that, every action that
we take is a vote for the type of person we want to become. If we are sitting there and we're like,
you know what? I'm not going to work out. That is a vote for the type of person that you want
to become. You want to become the type of person who doesn't work out. You know what? I'm going
to sleep in. That's a vote for the type of person that you want to become. You know what? I'm going
to get up and I'm going to work out at 5 a.m. And you get up and work out at 5 a.m.? That's a vote for the type of person that you want to become. You know what? I'm going to get up and I'm going to work out at 5 a.m. And you get up and work out at 5 a.m.? That's a vote for the
type of person that you want to become. So then you've got to ask yourself, what actions am I
taking and what ballots am I filling out for voting to be the type of person I want to become?
Are the actions that I'm taking going to get me to the place that I want to or the place I don't
want to be? And you have to realize it's tiny habits all day long. Like I've said this many times before in the podcast, but
we think that success is some big, huge event that happens to us. No, no, no. It's little teeny tiny
actions and habits every single day. When you look at someone who's had a heart attack, they didn't
have a heart attack from one bad choice, most likely. Now, are there some people who just have,
you know, actual clinical issues and they could be extremely fit and have a heart attack from one bad choice, most likely. Now, are there some people who just have, you know, actual clinical issues and they
could be extremely fit and have a heart attack?
Sure.
But when you look at the majority of heart attacks, it's usually a bunch of choices that
somebody made in the past.
No, nobody dies from eating one hamburger, like one bacon cheeseburger doesn't just
make somebody have a heart attack.
No, it's a bunch of little teeny tiny choices and decisions that somebody made to eat the
right thing, to not eat the right thing, to work out, to not work out.
No one has a heart attack from one hamburger.
Also, nobody gets fit from one push-up.
No one gets smart from reading one page of a book.
No one gets smart from reading one book.
It's about figuring out who we want to become and taking those little actions every single day.
Tiny habits, tiny actions make you who you are. but you need to decide who do you want to be? Because where you
are now, who you are now, is because of all the actions you take in the past. If that's the case,
what do I want to be in the future and what actions need to change in my life in order for
me to get there? Are you the type of person that wakes up 6 a.m. as soon as the alarm goes off?
Are you the type of person to snooze button four times?
Are you the type of person to spend money on things that you don't need?
Or are you the type of person to save it or invest it?
Are you the type of person to decide that you're going to eat healthy?
Are you the type of person to just go and decide to eat whatever tastes good no matter what it is?
Right? We only see successes and the end results of what people have done,
but those results are from every action that they've taken in the past.
And the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. So we decide to start something
brand new. We decide today is the day that I'm going to go on my health journey. I'm going to
take care of myself. I'm going to get myself fit for my family. And we get excited. And then two weeks in, we're like, I'm not where I want to be. But we're two weeks in. If the
journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step and you get sad or you get pissed off about
not being a thousand miles in, it's like every day is a single step. You want to be at mile 1000,
but you're only at 14 steps in. How could you possibly think that you would be a mile 1,014
days in and taking 14 steps? You can't compare yourself right now or in two weeks or in three
weeks with the future self that you want to be and then get mad at yourself or sad or depressed
because you're not where you want to be yet. You can't look at somebody else on Instagram who's
got this incredible body and you look down, you got a little chunky chunk
and you're like, why the fuck do I have a chunky chunk? And this person has an amazing body,
right? You can't compare your chapter one to someone else's chapter 20. They probably been
working out for five, six, seven years. So if you were to work out for five, six, seven years like
them, you could get the same body that they could, right? So who do you want to be in five years? Who do you want to be in 10 years? And do your actions line up with that life? If not, what actions need
to change? Do your current actions match that future? Do your current actions look like the
habits and the actions of the person that you need to become in order to create that life?
And you've got to get rid of yourself and ask yourself these tough questions.
It's never what you need to do to get what you want.
It's who you need to become.
And when you become the type of person that you need to be,
you automatically do the things that you need to do.
And it's the idea of this instant gratification versus delayed gratification.
You know, we live in a world where everything is instant.
But success, amazing relationship, building a massive business, becoming a world where everything is instant, but success, amazing
relationship, building a massive business, becoming a millionaire, whatever it is that you want,
doesn't come overnight. None of those things come overnight. You don't work for one day and then
wake up and there's a million dollars in bank account. You don't work out one time and then
wake up, you got a six pack. You know, you have to realize that all of these things take time.
What matters is not the time passing. What matters is none of that.
It matters what direction am I heading and what actions am I taking to get me there?
You know, you have to change a lot less about yourself than you realize. A lot of people think
they need to change like 50 or 100 things about themselves and then maybe they'll get there. And
then that gets so depressing because you're like, God, I've got to completely uplift my entire life
and change everything. But what it comes down to a lot of times, just a couple of really small
micro adjustments in your life. It might not be 50 to a hundred, might be like five or 10.
It might be like, you know what? I need to wake up earlier. I need to develop a morning routine.
I need to meditate so that I can be more relaxed and not have so much anxiety. I need to read so
I can be smarter. I need to eat healthy so I can have a better body and also have more energy. I need to stop procrastinating and take action on things
that I need to do. I need to stop making excuses. I need to take full ownership for my life. I need
to work out four times a week. I need to stop watching TV and watching the news. And then you
realize if you just do those things, that was right, there was 10 things. Your life will be
drastically better one year from today if you just do all of those that was right, there was 10 things. Your life will be drastically better
one year from today if you just do all of those 10 things every single day. It's not about being
a completely different person tomorrow. Like I said at the very beginning of this episode,
it's about being 1% better tomorrow. If you work out today, you'll be 1% better tomorrow. You won't
be 100% better. You won't have that six pack. It's about being a little bit better today than you were yesterday and being a little bit better than you were today, tomorrow. But you have to
decide. Your life changes with the decision. Your life can change in a moment. You just have to make
a decision of I'm no longer going to put up with my own shit anymore. I'm going to change myself
because it's important for me. It's important for my family. It's important for the world.
So you have to decide if this journey is something that you want to be a part of.
Is it a hobby? Is this self-development, this life, this personal development life that you're
going on, is it just like a hobby for you? Kind of fun to listen to a couple podcasts,
maybe read a few pages of a book, maybe put up an inspirational quote on Instagram and be like,
I'm improving myself. Or is it a lifestyle?
Is it I am on this journey of making sure that by the time I close my eyes at the very last time,
I'm going to be the best that I possibly can be. And every day I'm working at that by just being
a little bit better, a little bit better. Because at the point of change is where you find the most
resistance. So when you decide I'm going to step into being this person, there's going to be a
whole lot of resistance on your side pushing against you. No, no, no. Stay in
your comfort zone. Don't do that. And so what I want you to do is this for this episode, identify
three to five small habits that you need to change in yourself. Three to five small habits.
All I want you to do is focus on doing those for the next week. See where you end up being. Do it
for the next month. See you end up being. Focus on for the next 100 days See where you end up being. Do it for the next month. See you end up
being, focus on for the next 100 days. See you end up becoming in those next 100 days. And once you
start seeing some results, the cool thing about results, one of the results that you want to get
when you step on the scale after 100 days or, you know, let's say step on the scale after 30 days
and you're down five pounds, getting those results in the right direction become addicting. You've just got to get the momentum going on your side. So who do you want to be? How do you want to
live this life? Do you want this to become a lifestyle? Because this is a journey becoming
better. So that's what I got for you for today's episode. If you love this episode, please share
