There's no fluff here, just life-changing content. My name is Rob Dial, and the podcast starts now. Welcome to today's episode, if you have not yet done so, hit the subscribe button so that you never miss another episode. And today what I'm going to be talking about is this.
Starting point is 00:00:44 I'm going to be talking about something very, very important. And my next episode, guys, is going to be episode number 400. And what happened was I actually thought this was going to be episode number 400. So I had an idea of what episode I would, what I would be talking about for this episode. And once I realized, oh, this is 399, I thought, all right, well, let me take a key part from what I was about to say in this episode for what I thought was going to be episode 400 and dive a little bit deeper into it, just in a specific topic, because what I was going to do is give keys in the next episode, in episode number 400, but a couple of keys. So one of the things I want to talk about though,
Starting point is 00:01:25 that I think is extremely important before we dive into episode 400 on the next one is one of the, one of the keys I was, man, I would say one of the top one or two keys to really being successful or fulfilled or happy with whatever it is that you're doing. or happy with whatever it is that you're doing. Okay. And that thing is consistency, right? Consistency. I don't know one successful person that is not consistent with what they are working towards. And the reason why is because most people, I heard a great quote not too long ago and Jared Leto, who is a great musician and a great actor as well. He had a quote that he said when he was being interviewed. He said, most people, I realized when I was young that most people don't even start. And so if I just start, there's a pretty good chance that I'll be more successful than most people. So most people don't
Starting point is 00:02:20 even start. And then on top of that, most people who actually start whatever it is, a business, diet, whatever it is that they're starting, don't stay consistent with it. They don't stay all the way through. And so if you just want to beat everybody else and be better than them at doing almost anything, whether that's sports, whether that's business, whether that's have a better family than most people. You just need to start and you just need to be consistent. You need to stick with it. And the reason why is because most people give up. Most people don't start and the few that do start, most of them don't continue going. You have to continue going.
Starting point is 00:03:03 And I have a tattoo on my wrist that I got when I was in Rome. I only have two tattoos. One of them is a quote, actually a letter from my father. There's part of the words from a letter and it's written on my arm. And then on the same, that's on the inside of my bicep. And then on my wrist, I have an X with a line above it, a Roman numeral X with a line above it. That is the Roman numeral for 10,000. I got that when we were in Rome the day before we left to come back to America. And so the reason why was because I remember I've wanted it for a while, but I believe in the 10,000 hour rule and the X with a line above it is the Roman numeral for the 10,000.
Starting point is 00:03:39 I really believe in the 10,000 hour rule and that means that talent doesn't really exist. The 10,000 hour rule says that it takes about 10,000 hours to become a master at it. And the reason why I love that so much is because of the fact that it shows you that no matter what it is that you want to do, as long as you put 10,000 hardcore dedicated hours into it, there's a pretty good chance that you will be one of the best in the world at it. Now, that being said, it's not 10,000 hours of practice, 10,000 hours of practice, 10,000 hours of dedicated practice. Now, what does that have to do with the tattoo on my wrist? The reason why I got it was because, you know, it was a symbol. Number one, we were in Rome. Of course, I'm going to get a Roman numeral in Rome, but it was a symbol that I set my mind to something
Starting point is 00:04:21 a few years ago when I decided to start this podcast and I decided to do what I'm doing and try to bring it to the world. And I got this tattoo because of the fact that it was kind of the culmination of the trip. The reason why I started my own business a long time ago was because I wanted to travel the world and be able to do whatever the F I wanted to do whenever I wanted to do it. And two weeks was not enough time for me to have off over the course of an entire year. We have 52 weeks in a year. And you're telling me that when you work for a company, you get two weeks off, right? And don't worry, this is all going to come back to consistency in a second. I'm not going off on a tangent. But in my head, I was like, man, that's not enough time. I would rather work two weeks and have 50 weeks off.
Starting point is 00:05:07 That was kind of my thought. I think that I wasn't born to sit behind a cubicle and to do something that I wasn't passionate about. So I got this tattoo on my wrist because people that put 10,000 hours into something and really dedicate their lives to being a master at something, that takes consistency. That takes waking up and doing what you don't want to do on days when you don't want to do it. And so if you want to be extremely successful at something, it takes consistency. You need to be consistent with what you're doing. And so the 10,000 hour rule, the tattoo on my wrist, literally, I mean, you could see it.
Starting point is 00:05:45 I have people ask me about it all the time. Like, what's that tattoo? Why do you have it? What's the story behind it? And I tell them it's a 10,000 hour rule. I love that rule because it shows you that no matter where you are in life right now, if you just dedicate your life to something, you could become great at it. And when you're great at something, you can make millions upon millions of dollars doing it,
Starting point is 00:06:05 no matter what weird, crazy thing that it is. I mean, people are making millions of dollars per year being professional video game players, right? That's ridiculous five years ago, 10 years ago. People have never thought that. When Atari came out, people have never thought people were making millions of dollars off of playing games like Atari, right? Just a little bit more advanced now, 30 years down the road. So when I talk about consistency, if you can just realize your key to success is really two things. Number one, just start. Just do it already. Stop being afraid of that thing that you're wanting to go for, right? If it sounds like I'm talking to you and there's a part of you right now that's listening, that's going, yeah, I just need to start.
Starting point is 00:06:48 I'm talking to you right now. Just start, right? You weren't born onto this planet to be average and to be mediocre. Everybody was born to be great, but society teaches us how to fit in. You weren't born to fit in. So whatever that thing that you need to start is,
Starting point is 00:07:05 listen to my voice, start it. If you don't know what it is, figure out what it is and start it. And then when you do start it, just don't stop, right? Become addicted to it. Don't give up. And if you don't give up, there's a pretty good chance you'll end up winning because everybody else gives up. 99% of people don't start. And those 1% of people who do start, 99% of them quit. So if you just continue going, even if you're terrible at it, the first few years, whatever it is that you're trying to do, you're better than 99% of the people. 99% of 1% is really what it is. So 0.01%, if my math is correct off the top of my head, you're in the 0.01 percentile of people if you just keep going. So figure out what it is.
Starting point is 00:07:53 If you know what it is, start. Just do it. Even if you start on the weekends and you just start working towards that painting or that job you wanted to start or that company that you wanted to start or that social media brand that you wanted to create or that company that you wanted to start or, you know, that social media brand that you wanted to create or that clothing brand you wanted to create, whatever it is, just start it. If you have a day job, do it during the day and then go home and work on that thing that you just started and you want to do and be consistent with it. It's so simple. God, success is so freaking simple, but everybody makes it so hard.
Starting point is 00:08:27 It's really not that hard. You just start it. You get past your fears of judgment. You do it. And then you just don't stop. It's literally that simple. And I'm going to dive more, a little bit more into this on the next episode,
Starting point is 00:08:41 episode number 400, which is crazy because that's consistency. That's not me bragging. That's just saying I'm proud of myself for being that consistent. I've not missed one episode on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday in the past two and a half years, over two and a half years, and 400 episodes. You can do it too. I'm nothing special. Most people like to be like, yeah, I'm great and all these things. I'm nothing special. And, you know, most people like to be like, oh, yeah, I'm great and all these things. I'm nothing special. I'm just another person from the street. If you pass me, you probably wouldn't even know who I was. That's cool. I'm completely cool with saying that. Right. If I can do it, you can do it, too.
Starting point is 00:09:18 Start what you want to start and then just don't stop. So if you like this episode, please do me a favor.
