Welcome to today's episode of the Mindset Mentor Podcast. I am your host, Rob Dial.
And if you have not yet done so, hit that subscribe button so you never miss another
podcast episode. Today is the business edition of the Mindset Mentor. So I'm going to talk
to you about the business that I'm in because I get so many messages about it. We're going to talk about why becoming a coach or consultant is a really great
career. Now, obviously I'm extremely biased because I've been in the coaching industry for a while
and I teach a lot of coaches on how to grow coaching businesses, but I get a ton of messages
from people like, Hey, what's this whole coaching thing about? How can I become a coach or a
consultant? What's the benefit of becoming a coach or consultant? And I want to kind of break down the things that I've seen and I've seen now being in this industry
for a while of what the biggest benefits are of being a coach or consultant. And the beautiful
thing about this before I dive into it is if you're out there and you love the feeling of
helping people, there's no better feeling in the world than when you're a coach. Because you're
helping people, you're literally getting paid to help people. If you're a mindset coach, a life coach, a fitness coach, a relationship coach,
if you're a real estate coach, a business coach, all of those, you're helping people.
And when you help people, guess what happens? You feel really good. So we're going to dive in and
talk a little bit about it of what I've seen are some of the biggest pros of being a coach.
And if my audio sounds a little bit different than what
it normally does, does it sound as good? I'm actually going to tell you, I'm traveling right
now. I'm in Mexico for an event that we're throwing. And it's not going to sound as good,
I guess, because I don't have my super expensive microphone. But that is one of the cool things.
And that actually brings us into the very first part that's awesome about being a coach is number
one is the lifestyle.
The thing that I loved most about coaching when I first got into it, like the idea,
besides helping people, besides the fulfilling feeling of like, oh my God, this is amazing.
I always tell people it's coaching is like crack. You don't need drugs because it makes you feel so
good when you help somebody out. But the first thing we're going to talk about is the lifestyle.
So we have an event right here. This is in Mexico right now. We're in Cabo San Lucas.
And there's a ton of people here who are coaches from my coaching program. They've learned how to
grow coaching businesses. And the cool thing is, is they're on vacation, but they're also working
at the exact same time and making money. And so when I came up and decided to start up my own
business, it was hard for me to get the mindset of it's not just vacation or work. It's not like I'm either at work making money or I'm on vacation.
You can really be like, I'm going to go anywhere that I want to go and I can continue to work.
As long as I have my phone and as long as I have my computer, my business continues to run.
And that's exactly how it is. We have a bunch of people here who are coaches and they're doing a couple of coaching calls in the morning. They go get
breakfast. They do a couple of coaching calls. They're all hanging out at the beach right now.
It's about 2.45. They're all hanging out at the beach right now and at the pool. And then a little
bit later, if they want to, they can go do a couple more coaching calls and they make money
while they're on vacation. There is not like, oh, I'm on work. I'm either working or I'm on
vacation. It is,
I can do both of them if I want to. And if they want to take one day off completely,
two, three, four days off completely, they're in control of their schedule. That's the cool
thing about it. And so I think one of the things that's hard to understand, especially coming from
the paradigm of working for somebody else is that I can make money anywhere in the world.
And that's what the internet has provided for us. That's what it's provided for you. And so it's hard for us when we're raised by parents who you have to go into
work, you have to work and you have to trade your time for money. It's hard to get the whole like,
hold on, I can actually make money online and sometimes even make money when I'm sleeping.
Like, how is it even possible? So the cool thing about that is, you know, like I'm leaving in
about 14 days to go to Italy for five weeks with my girlfriend.
We're both going to still work while we're there. I'm a coach. She's a coach. We have coaching
businesses. We're both going to continue to make money the same way that we would as if we were in
Austin, Texas. We traveled for six months all around the world. And that was back in 2017.
So four years ago. So your location has nothing to do with your business. Your business continues to
run no matter where in the world you are. How would that feel if you just think about that for years ago. So your location has nothing to do with your business. Your business continues to run
no matter where in the world you are. How would that feel if you just think about that for a
second? How would that feel to be able to work from anywhere? To go, you know what? I do want
to go to Thailand this year. And the cool thing is if I set up my schedule correctly, I can go
to Thailand and still get paid the exact same amount that I'm getting paid to live in Atlanta
or wherever it is that you live. If you're happy working a nine to five, cool, go for it. But if you hate working your nine to five and you've got
some applied knowledge in fitness or in nutrition or self-development or business, or there's many
different things. You've coached many, many different types of coaches. It might be right
for you to look into it because people really underestimate how much their knowledge
is worth. And so I was sitting yesterday by the pool. One of the guys came up to me and he's like,
hey, so I was talking with one of your people that's here for the event. And I've always thought
about starting a coaching business. I'm in real estate. I was like, okay, cool. And he's like,
what does it look like to work with you and all of these things? He asked me all these questions.
And I started talking to him about it. He's like, so you're telling me that I could literally be
making money today if I had a coaching business? And I was like, yeah. And he's like, so I could
just travel the world and make money while I'm doing it? I was like, if you wanted to do it,
you could do it that way. Or if somebody is out there and you have kids, and you work with your
kids and raise them throughout the day, maybe you have a couple of coaching calls in the afternoon
when your husband comes home or your wife comes home, whatever it is, you can set up however you want to. And he has applied
knowledge and the fact that he's a really, out of thousands of realtors that are in his state,
he's number eight in the entire state. I said, you don't understand how much your knowledge is worth.
How much somebody who is not as good as you as a real estate agent would love to pay you money
to learn from you so that you can collapse time. And he's like,
I never even thought about that. I said, because your superpower is usually the thing that you
don't pay the most attention to. You don't really realize how good you actually are until you start
teaching to people who aren't as good as you. And so that's the beautiful thing about it is that
a lot of people don't know that they're as good as they could be. So going back to it,
if you want to be making money in Mexico, you could be making money in Mexico. So the lifestyle is an amazing, amazing thing.
The second thing is that you get to grow while you're doing it. So you become a better coach
as you get better in your applied knowledge, whatever it is. If I'm a life coach and I read
more and I hire my own coach and I do self-development, I go to conferences and do work
on myself and do work on myself, do work on myself. The more work that I do on myself,
the better coach I become. So if you're a fitness coach and you're like, you know what? I want to
really get good at fitness and you want to start learning fitness. Well, what's cool about that
is that the better that you become with your own fitness, with your own nutrition, with your own
knowledge, the better you are at coaching people and the better results your people get. And also the more valuable you become, which means you can also
charge more money. You help people grow. So if you think about that, how would it feel
if you're out there listening to me, how would it feel if you're sitting there and you're thinking,
oh my gosh, you're telling me that I could go and help somebody lose 20 pounds and they could
feel the best they've ever felt and they could be more confident and feel better in a bikini and
walk through the world more confidently and close sales more because they feel differently in their
own skin. And they get more promotions because of the fact that they're more confident after
putting in this work and getting great results and seeing how beautiful they actually can look in this bikini or the fitness is just one piece of it. But if you help somebody
with their fitness, if we're talking about a fitness coach, well, then you got to realize
how much that's going to change somebody's confidence and how much confidence changes
somebody's life. So it's a win-win because it feels so good to be able to grow yourself,
but then to be able to grow everybody else's coaching client is around you as well.
There's one thing that I know right now with all of the stuff that's happening in the world,
we need more coaches. There are people that need coaches in every aspect of life.
And it's a really good feeling. Let me say that again. It's the best feeling in the world
to go, oh my God, I've got a business that helps people. That just feels good to think about that,
to feel like I'm doing some good in the world. And your clients will force you to grow.
So as they start getting good and they start getting knowledge, you're like,
I got to learn more stuff. I've got to get more knowledge in my brain. I've got to get better at
fitness. I've got to get better at mindset. I've got to get better at psychology. I've got to get
better at real estate. I've got to get better at business. I've got to hire my own coach so that
I can get better as a coach. And so it's like, they actually push you to get better at business. I've got to hire my own coach so that I can get better as a coach. And so it's like, they actually push you to get better because you're thinking to yourself,
I can't stay stagnant. If they're getting better, I got to get better as well.
So it's a win-win. They grow, but then also you grow as well. It's just the feeling of being
purpose-driven. It's just so much better than just feeling like, oh, I got to clock in and
clock out and go to this job that I hate. And I've done it before. For years,
I went to jobs where I was like, why in the hell am I here? This is sucking my soul. I don't want
to do this. This isn't something that I want to do. I wasn't put on this earth to work for somebody
else at a job that I hate and spend the majority of my waking hours working for somebody else,
doing something I'm not enjoying. I wanted to travel the world. I wanted to experience life.
I don't have kids yet, but when I have kids, I want to be a fully present father and be there as much as I possibly can.
I don't want to miss anything. I want to be their little league coach and their football coach and
their basketball coach. That's how I want to be. Coaching will give me that opportunity as well,
which is what's amazing about it. And so it forces you to grow. It forces them to grow as well. And
it's a win-win situation whenever you're a coach in that situation. So that's number two, is that the growth, the growth of yourself,
the growth of the people around you. Hey, buying a car is one of the biggest

And so I always ask people and people are like, well, I really feel this feeling of I want to be
a coach, but I'm not really sure what niche I would be in. I always say like, hey, what are
you really good at? Or what do you have like this really strong desire to get better at?
If you can figure that out, that's usually your path. So for me, I have this really strong desire.
Even if I got paid no money as a coach, if the coaching didn't exist, I would still be obsessed
with how humans work, with psychology, with neurobiology, the chemicals inside of your brain and why they make you feel
the way that they feel. I'm just weird and obsessed and geek out over those types of things.
So that's why the path that I've taken makes so much sense is because I'm obsessed with it. I
would do it and I still do it just because I enjoy learning more. And sometimes I'll come to my
girlfriend like, oh my gosh, you've got to hear about how acetylcholine comes in and how serotonin
comes in and buffers adrenaline whenever you're pushing yourself too hard. And she's like, I don't
know what you're talking about. It's a little bit over, like a little bit, I'm going too deep in the
weeds. But for her, she doesn't really care that much about it. And a lot of people don't. For me,
I just, for some reason, love it. And so when you take your past, you can turn your purpose. What is it that you just want to learn more about? What do people call you for advice?
Do your friends call you when things are going hard? What do they call you? And they're like,
hey, I've been trying to get myself more motivated to go to the gym. I know that you go to the gym
often. Do you have any tips on that? Or I saw that you've lost 30 pounds over the past year.
What did you do? What do your friends come to you for advice for?
Do friends call you when they're going through the middle of a breakup?
Or they need some relationship advice because you have an incredible marriage and they're
like, hey, my marriage isn't the way that I want it to be.
What do you guys do?
Oh, you guys do a meeting once a week?
Do they call you for those types of things?
Do they call you?
Do you have friends in other industries that call you for business advice because your business has been doing well? Do you have friends
that call you because they need a little bit of help with personal development? They're like,
hey, I've heard you seem so calm. You seem like nothing bothers you. What do you do? Do you
meditate? Do you journal? What is it that your friends call you for and they want to learn more
about? Usually, if it's something that people call you for, if friends call and they're like, hey, what books are you reading right now?
What are you doing in your life? You seem so happy. You seem so successful. What is it that
you're doing? When people call you and ask you, usually that's the thing that you would be a
coach in. And if you have something that people ask you about and you have a really strong desire to just learn more about it,
usually that's a really good path in life because it lights you up inside.
And to be able to work with people and to be able to help them grow and help them improve
while you're doing all this stuff and get paid to do it is just insane.
And that's what a lot of people...
And it's even hard for me to understand.
This is me being truly 100% honest.
I've been a coach for a while now, and I've taught over 700 coaches how to become coaches.
There's still a part of me deep down inside that's like, how in the fuck is this real?
If I'm being fully honest, there's a part of me that's like, how do I get paid? How is this a
real thing? When am I going to realize that this was all a sham and this doesn't work? What am I going to figure this out? Because I was raised under this paradigm of
having to go to a job, having to go to college, having to get an education, having to work for
a company and climb the corporate ladder. And you have to do this and you have to become a doctor
or lawyer to be successful. And it's funny when you have... I have people that I've trained that
make more money than doctors and lawyers and they have no college degree, but they're just really good coaches.
And the reason why they get paid so much money is because their clients get results.
And so it's really cool just to see that you can take your passion and turn it into your purpose.
That's the beautiful thing about it. The fourth thing that I love about being a coach is a
profitability. So a few days ago, I was over at my, uh, my friend, Aubrey Marcus's business.
He just sold a company called
Onnit. Onnit, I don't know how much they do in revenue per year, but it's a couple hundred
million dollars a year. It's a hundred million dollars a year, something like that. They do a
lot. And Onnit makes supplements and they make a whole bunch of things. And they have a gym and
they have a couple hundred employees and stuff like that. And we were talking about coaching
because he's got a lot of people listening to his podcast that are coaches. And I said, what's great about being a coach is the profitability. If I look at this building
that we're in, Aubrey, and it's like, you got to pay for all the rent. You got to pay all of
your employees. You got to pay for the research and the development of all of your products.
You've got to pay to get your products made. You got to get paid to get your products shipped to
you. You've got to pay to get them shipped to the customer. There's a ridiculous amount of
logistics. And I'm not very much a logistic person. So thinking of that gives me anxiety of
all of the stuff that has to happen from idea to getting it to somebody's house. There's a ton.
There's Facebook ads, there's getting the word out there, there's sponsorships, there's all kinds of
things. I was like, the beautiful thing about being a coach is that you can literally have an idea, I want to be a coach and you can be a coach tomorrow.
If you're a really great real estate agent, just because I'm using this example from the guy at the
pool yesterday. If you're a really great real estate agent, you can literally become a coach
today and start getting clients tomorrow and start impacting people's lives. Here's the crazy thing
about it though. When that person pays you $2,000 a month is what he wants to charge,
though. When that person pays you $2,000 a month is what he wants to charge. He gets $2,000 in his bank account. When you look at companies, e-commerce companies and all of the other
ones that are out there, they profit like 15% to 20%. 15% to 20%. Coaching, if you don't have
any employees, is 100% a lot of times. And even at the scale that my business is at where we have,
at this point, we have, I think, 15 employees and we have a lot of other people that are working. And we've grown
to... We put on these events that we're here. So it costs obviously money for me to get my entire
team here to rent out the space, to be able to put on the food and beverage and all that stuff.
It costs money to do that. We're still running at like 75% profit, 70% profit, which is unheard
of in pretty much any other business.
And so some people ask like, can I make money being a coach? Yeah, you can make a lot of money
being a coach. And that's the beautiful thing about it is that you can make a lot of money doing it.
And the coaching industry is only growing. They say that in the United States alone,
it's a $15 billion industry. $15 billion industry. It's the same market value as the NFL.
What's crazy about it is they think within the next couple of years, it should be around $20
billion. It's going to grow by 33% over the next couple of years from $15 to $20 billion.
So for a solo coach, a solopreneur out there decides they want to be a coach,
that's 100% profit. When someone's doing into the
millions, it's 70, 80% profit. And it's pretty much infinitely scalable. Someone can do one-on-one
coaching if they want to. They can do courses. They can do group coaching online if they want
to. There's many different aspects of what they can do. And so I really want to just open your
mind up to it where if you're one of those people who sends me messages like, hey, I'm thinking about
getting a coach and what's the ideas behind it? What can I do? I just wanted to being seeing that today is
the business mindset mentor episode. I want to be able to talk to you about this business because
we're in Mexico and we have an event and we have a lot of coaches that are here. And I wanted to
open your mind up to the fact that I was talking with some of them at the pool and they were like,
yeah, I just got done with a coaching call. And it popped into my head of like, how freaking cool
is that? I have people here that are
making a couple hundred thousand dollars a year as coaches. They're traveling. One of our coaches
is over from the UK and he decided to come all the way over from the UK to Cabo. He's here in
Cabo right now. And the beautiful thing about it, he's going to be coming back to America and staying
at another one of the coaches house for three months. So he can literally come from the UK,
hang out in America for three months and then go, all right, I'm going to go back home. I don't know many other places
where you have that opportunity, which is a cool thing that is here. And so I just wanted to talk
about it and tell you guys all about it. If this intrigues you in any sort of way and you're like,
oh my God, I really want to learn more about becoming a coach or becoming a consultant in
any sort of way, you can absolutely join for free. I have a free four-day workshop.
So it's going to be September
27th, 28th, 29th, and 30th. It's called the Six-Figure Coaching System Workshop.
It's absolutely free. And over the course of four days, I'm going to be teaching people
the exact system, the exact structure of how to grow a six-figure coaching business from their
computer, from their phone. And I've personally trained, like I said, over 700 coaches to do this.
And some of them... Literally, one of the guys that's here, Amar, in his first five months did $252,000 in sales as
a business coach. And he owns some franchises and he decided, hey, maybe I can actually switch over
and start teaching people business. So his clients have made tons of money and he's been able to make
a ton of money from teaching them and helping them. So if you're like a life coach or fitness
coach, mindset coach, relationship coach, business coach business coach nutrition coach We've had grief coaches. We've had death coaches. We've had divorce coaches. We've had swim coaches. We've had basketball coaches
We've had so many different types of coaches
The coaching system that the structure of a coaching business is the most important part to learn and that's what i'm going to be teaching
And how to grow a six-figure coaching business. So if that's something that interests you would love to see you i'm going to be live
It's thecoachworkshop.com. Once again, it's absolutely free. Thecoachworkshop.com. I'm
