Starting point is 00:01:14 been the year that you wanted it to be, that you started off and you had tons of resolutions, you were excited about it. And for some reason, you're either not hitting those goals, you're nowhere near them, and you feel like you might need some coaching to get you to those goals by the end of this year, send me an email, rob at mwfmotivation.com, because my group coaching might be right for you to help you take this year to the next level. So once again, rob at mwfmotivation.com. So what I'm going to be talking about today are the people at your funeral. And this is a what sounds like it would be a morbid conversation or morbid topic to speak about in a podcast. But I'm going to talk about the number of people at your funeral and the people
Starting point is 00:01:57 at your funeral versus the number of dollars in your bank account. And I talk a lot about success and I understand that because success, I feel it relates to almost everything else in the world. If you could be successful at one thing, you could be successful at anything. So if you could be successful at running a business, you could probably be successful or figure out ways to be successful at relating with people or raising children or being in a marriage or being a relationship or being in a marriage, or being a relationship, or being a good friend, or brother, or sister, or son, daughter, whatever it might be. And I talk about it because it relates to all of those things. But I want you to realize when I'm talking about
Starting point is 00:02:37 success, I'm not talking about just going out and trying to get rich. That's actually the exact opposite of what I want. Sure, I want you to be rich. I want everyone to be rich, but I don't want you to go out just looking for money. And I went to a funeral a couple months back, and this is where it kind of sat with me and really clicked in my head the most. And I was inside of this church, and the church probably held a few hundred people. And there were so many people that were at this church for this person that so many people had to, every single seat was taken. And then people had to sit all around and stand all around on the outside. It probably held 300
Starting point is 00:03:16 people and there was probably 450 to 500 people in this room. And I thought, man, this is insane because this person has so much of an impact that they were not able to fit all of the people, substantial amount of more people inside of this room. They were not able to fit all of them for them to all sit down. And I thought, man, this is pretty crazy. And it made me think. And everyone kept saying the same thing about how amazing this person was and the impact that they had. And everyone said the the same thing about how amazing this person was and the impact that they had. And everyone said the exact same thing about how much fun they had with life and how they were one of the funniest people that they ever met. And it was pretty eye-opening for me to see that because most people I feel like in this world, especially in America at least, and in most first world countries, what they're looking for is how to be successful and how to make money and how to run the best business or whatever it might be. But they focus on those things, but then don't
Starting point is 00:04:09 think about how many people they're actually impacting in the process. That's not part of their goal. And what you have to realize, I think more than anything else is that if you're impacting and giving value to a lot of people, if that's your goal, money is going to follow you no matter what. And I remember listening to Jeff Hoffman, who's the billionaire founder of Priceline.com. He was on the podcast not too long ago. And he was talking about where he had the biggest shift. You know, he was a billionaire at this time. But his biggest shift was he was at his best friend's funeral.
Starting point is 00:04:39 And his best friend died just randomly. It was a freak accident. I think what happened was he drowned. And he was sitting at the funeral and people were talking at the eulogy and people were talking after. And he's like, man, this is not how he would want to be remembered. He knew who he truly was, but what people were saying about him wasn't bad, but it wasn't how he knew his friend wanted to be remembered. And the big shift for him was that he was like, I'm concentrating too much on being a businessman, on running successful businesses, on making tons of money and doing all of these things. He's like, I need
Starting point is 00:05:08 to focus more on legacy, on how many people I can help and help improve. Because his idea was he thinks that entrepreneurs are going to change the world. The world relies on entrepreneurs to make products and stuff like that to reverse climate change, to reverse all of these different problems that we've done because governments clearly are not going to do anything about it. And so he decided instead of focusing on running businesses, how could he go out and impact as many entrepreneurs as he possibly could and impact as many people as he possibly could to become entrepreneurs. And he thought, what would people say at my funeral today when he was at his friend's funeral?
Starting point is 00:05:45 And he didn't like the way it looked. And that little thing made him make a huge shift in what he was focusing on. He didn't like it at that point. So with that being said, I want you to think about this. And it's a very short episode, but I want you to think about it. How many people would be at your funeral? And the people that are at your funeral, what would they say? What difference did you make?
Starting point is 00:06:05 What difference are you currently working on making right now? It doesn't have to be on a huge global scale. You don't have to change the world. It could be on a local scale. It could be even with a small group of friends or family members. Think about what people would say at your funeral today. And if it's not what you think that you'd want them to say, ask yourself, what steps do you have to make to make changes, to leave a legacy and to make sure that you're making a difference with other people, making a difference with whatever you can and impacting as many people as you possibly can in a positive way. So the question is, do you want to focus on the number of people at your funeral and the number of people that say that you impacted them? Or do you want to
Starting point is 00:06:42 focus on the number of dollars in your bank account? Think about those two things. Figure out which one is the most important to you and figure out what steps you need to make in order to make the right steps so that when you do get to your funeral, you have more people at your funeral than dollars in your bank account and all of that stuff. Because we all know that the dollars you can't take with you, but the legacy is what's going to live on after you're here. So with that, I want to leave you the same way I leave you every single episode. Make it your mission today to make somebody else's day better. I appreciate you and I hope that you have an amazing day.
