And if you're out there and you live in the United States or Canada,
you want to receive motivational text messages from me directly to your cell phone,
text me right now, 512-580-9305. Once again, 512-580-9305. Today, I'm going to be diving deep into who you are,
what you want, and how it's usually different from the way that you've been raised.
And I like to call this one, wake up, you've been lied to, because we live in a society
that has certain rules and certain things that we're supposed to do. Now, for those of you guys
that can't see me, you're not watching on YouTube or Facebook or Instagram, and you're just listening
to the podcast. I did air quotes on supposed to do, because in a way, when we're inside of our
society, we have been raised to be sheep. It's really what we've
been raised to do. And nobody really knows or parents aren't aware that they're raising their
children a lot of times to be this way, but we've been raised to be sheep, to follow orders and to
do what we've been told. And let me give you an example of what I mean by this. And once I explain
it, this will all make sense to you as to how we've been raised to be sheep, to follow the leader and
to be doing what we say we're supposed to do or say we're told to do. So what do you do? You take
a perfect child, right? A child comes into this universe. It's perfect. It's miraculously unique.
And what do we do? We take this miraculously unique, beautiful, sentient being and we put
them into a box and we say, hey, you have to go to school.
You know, so when they're five or they're six or they're whatever it is, four years old,
they have to go to school. And we say, hey, you have to be a good kid because you're in
kindergarten. And if you're a good kid, then you get into first grade. And then when you're in
first grade, you have to be a good kid and you have to make sure that you do what you're supposed
to so that you can get into second grade. And then around second grade, we start introducing
these things called tests. And then, you know, you've got to study because you want to be a smart
kid. You don't want to be a dumb kid. You want to make sure that you're a smart kid. So make sure
that you study so that you can get in third grade. And then you do the same for fourth grade, the same
for fifth grade. Then you say, hey, make sure you do really good in fifth grade so that you can get
into middle school. And then you have to do really well in middle school so that when you get into
high school, you can get into better classes so that you can set yourself up for the rest of your
life, right? And then you get into high school. And then you have to make sure that you take like
the advanced classes if possible. And you have to be smart. And you have to get the best education
that you can and do really well so that you can graduate. Because colleges, I don't know if you guys
remember hearing this, colleges look at all four years of high school. So you've got to do good in
high school, in ninth grade, in 10th grade, 11th grade, and 12th grade, so that you can then get
into a good college. And if you don't have enough money for college, no worries. We'll loan it all
to you, and you can spend the next 30, 40, 50, 60 years of your life paying off for this education that we told you that you were
supposed to get because college is the only way to be successful, right? And then you get into
college and you've got to do well in college because you've got this good job you've got to
get. And you're always working towards something and you're working towards something and you're
working towards something and you're working towards something. And you're always working towards something, and you're working towards something, and you're working towards something, and you're working towards something.
And then when you get out of college, you better make sure that you've done as best you possibly
can so you can get a good job. And then when you get your job, you've got to get promoted. You've
got to do really well so you can get promotions. You can make more money, and you can get the next
promotion. You can make more money. You can get the next promotion. And there's always something that you're supposed to be working towards. So from four, five,
six years old until like 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, into your 40s, you're chasing after this thing.
As Alan Watts likes to call it, you're chasing after the golden goodie. But nobody knows what
the golden goodie is, the success, this thing
that you're supposed to have. And so you realize that you're actually chasing towards something
and you have no idea what the hell you're chasing. And by the time you wake up, you know, you're 40
years old, you wake up and you think, ah, I've made it, right? No? Oh, damn it. What am I working
towards? What do I want? What am I trying to get? And then one day you wake up and you think to
yourself, what the fuck have I been doing with my life? What do we call that?
We call that a midlife crisis. We literally have a phrase for when somebody wakes up from the sleep
that they've been in for 30, 40, 50 years, realizing that they've been sold, that they're
supposed to be continuing to work towards something. And they wake up one day and they're
like, what have I done?
This life that I have isn't even necessarily
the life that I wanted.
Because they wake up and they realize
that they've built something
and they've spent years and years and years
of their life building something
and they don't even necessarily want
everything that they've built.
What happens?
They feel stuck, like inside of a cage.
They have this job they can't leave from. They have this job they can't leave from.
They have this family they can't leave from.
They have this house that they can't leave from.
They can't get out of the bills and the mortgage
and the car payments and the car insurance
and all of this stuff.
You know, we're told we have to go to school.
And then we're told we have to go to school
and do really well so we can go to college.
And when we're in college, we have to do really well
so we can get a job. And when we have a job, you have to get married and you have to buy a house and you have to go to school and do really well so we can go to college. And when we're in college, we have to do really well so we can get a job. And when we have a job, you have to get married
and you have to buy a house and you have to have kids. And you move so quick that you realize that
you're building something and didn't actually consciously ask yourself, is this what I want?
So many people reach out to me when they've hit that point and they're like, Rob, I don't know
what the hell to do with my life. This life that I have is not the life that I wanted. This is not
the life that I wanted to build. And literally, they look back in their life. And that's why so
many of your memories can feel like a blur is because you were just waiting for the next thing.
And you were never present because you were looking for the next thing. And you were looking
for the next thing. And you were working towards the next thing. Because we're always thinking to
ourselves, what's next? What's next? What's next? What's
next? Even when you have an achievement. Sometimes it's hard to have an achievement
because you always have to think there's something else in front of that. There's
something else I should be working for. And that's the trouble. We're constantly
feeling like we have to be doing something. We have to be working towards something. We
have to go towards this next thing. That's why so many people have trouble doing nothing
because we've been trained to always have to be working
for the next thing, for the next thing, for the next thing,
for the next thing, for the next thing.
And we've been taught to shoot for this end point.
And we don't even know what this end point is.
The golden goodie I was talking about
that Alan Watts talks about.
And when you get there, you'll finally feel happy
and you'll finally feel fulfilled.
And we don't feel happy and fulfilled right now
because we don't have this end point.
But the end point is the crazy part about it
is it's like the horizon.
The closer that you get to the horizon,
the further away the horizon gets to you.
You know, so then you're like 40 years old
and you're like, you know what?
Well, at least I'm in this point
where I've got a job that's paying me pretty decent. So I'm going to save, save,
save, save, save, save so that I can retire. And then maybe you can get retired at 65 years old,
but might not have enough money to retire. So then sometimes people work and work and work,
and they think they're going to get to an age when they can retire, but then they can't because they
don't have enough money and they have to work and work and work until they physically cannot do it
anymore. And that point in time, you realize that you've just been playing a part. You've just been
playing a part in the rat race. You've been a rat that's been stuck on the wheel and you can't get
off of the wheel. You have now played your part in society. What we have been raised,
what we have been trained, what we have been programmed to do, to be a rat in the race,
and you have done it. You have done everything that you were supposed to do. And that does not sound like a fulfilling life to me. BrandCrowd is a logo maker tool that can help you make amazing

Hey, did you know that poor sleep
can cause weight gain, mood issues,
poor mental health, and lower productivity?
And that sleeping less than six to seven hours per night
is linked to reduced white blood cell count.
White blood cells protect our body against illness, disease, fighting viruses, bacteria,
and more.
And I know when I don't get a good night's sleep, I don't operate anywhere near 100%
the next day.
Introducing Beam Dream.
Beam is the world's most innovative functional wellness brand with unique products for everything
from sleep to recovery.
And today, my listeners get a special discount available for Beam's sleep product, Beam
Dream Powder.
They're best-selling healthy hot cocoa. It contains natural sleep-promoting
premium ingredients, triple lab-tested, no THC, and you wake up refreshed. And 98% of people
surveyed fall asleep faster when taking Beam Dream, and 99% experience better sleep quality.
Here's why it works. Our bodies have endocannabinoid systems, or a highway of
communication between the brain and body,
which CBD is specifically designed to work with.
And Beam's premium nano-CBD
dramatically increases your body's ability to absorb CBD,
making their products the most effective
in the wellness space.
Just mix Beam Dream into hot water or milk,
stir, and enjoy 30 minutes before bedtime.
And anytime I take this stuff, I sleep like a baby.

And maybe you are lucky enough to finally be able to retire at 65 years old.
But now you're 65 and you do have a little bit extra money and you don't have all the
energy that you used to when you're in your 20s and your 30s to do all of the things that
you wanted to do when you were young.
So you don't have as much energy to do all of the traveling that you wanted to do.
You don't have as much energy as you wanted to do all of the adventures that you wanted to do. There's no next thing. That's the
thing that you have to realize. That's the point that I'm trying to get across is you've been lied
to thinking that there is a next thing you should always be working towards when you will never have
anything other than this present moment. Nothing. That's it. So when people say enjoy the journey, what they mean by enjoy the
journey is that there is actually no destination. There is no destination. There is no goal that
you're shooting for in this destination because once you hit a quote-unquote goal, you're always
going to set another one. There's going to be another one. There's going to be another one.
The journey should be the goal and the enjoyment of the journey should be the goal. Because every single past event, every memory that you have is just a present moment that is now past. There has
never been anything in your life that has not been a present moment. And every future moment that will
eventually come to you will be experienced as a present moment. Therefore, the only thing that
should matter to us ever is this present moment.
So if you feel like you're constantly having to be restless and working towards something
and working towards something
and working towards something,
realize that is what we've been sold.
That's what we've been told.
That is how we've been raised.
And so many of us are restless
and I've found myself many times in my life
being extremely restless in a present moment.
I found myself being sick
and feeling like I was worthless
because I wasn't producing in that moment because I was sick. But the more that we can remove
ourselves from focusing on the future and constantly thinking like there has to be another
thing, more that we can remove ourselves from focusing on that future and start to focus on
the present moment, we realize how rich a quote-unquote boring moment can be, right? Being bored
and restless just means that we are addicted to constantly having to be moving. That's it.
We constantly have to be moving. We constantly have to be stimulated by social media, by
notifications, by constant moving and moving and moving and doing and moving and doing.
constant moving and moving and moving and doing and moving and doing. So you have to first build the awareness that that might not be what you want. What is it that you want, right? So how do
we break ourselves out of this system? This is something I realized I woke up two years ago,
and this is, you know, when people say that they are, you know, asleep or people are quote-unquote
woke or woken up, awake, usually what happens is they're awake to the fact
that what it is that they're doing,
they're trying to be more conscious
of the actions that they take.
So when someone is awake and other people are asleep,
a lot of people are just asleep,
going through the motions, going through their job,
going through school, doing what they're told,
doing what they're told, doing what they're told.
And a lot of times they wake up and they're like,
I'm stuck.
There's nothing else I can do.
So how do we break ourself out of that being asleep?
Number one, first, we have to be aware of it.
Awareness is always the first thing.
You have to be able to notice when you are not present.
You have to be able to notice when you are not in this actual moment.
Bring yourself back to this present moment as often as possible.
Bring the richness of the present moment to your
conscious mind. Now, you might be sitting there and you're like, well, how do I bring richness
to my conscious mind? It's not really all that hard. And so I'll teach you a very,
very simple mindfulness practice that will bring you to the present moment.
What you do is this. You sit there, you put your phone away, throw your phone inside of a drawer,
keep it away from you for five minutes, right?
And you're going to sit there and you're going to sit there in your chair,
whatever it is you're doing.
And I want you to just focus on everything that you can see.
And you look at all of the things in the room
and you look at the things on your desk
and you look at the colors
and you look at the trees that are moving outside
and you look at the sun that's coming through the trees
and you try to bring in as many things that you possibly can.
And this is like an eye open, like keep your eyes open meditation, you could call it, right? Just a mindfulness practice.
And what do you see? What do you see? And you start to focus for about a minute on every single
thing that you see. Now become aware of your present place that you are. And you'll be like,
oh my God, I didn't notice that stain on the carpet. Oh my gosh, I didn't notice that I,
you know, my dog left his toy over there. You start to notice all of these things.
What do you see is the first thing, okay?
After you take about a minute doing that,
you then ask yourself, what do you start to figure out?
What is it that you hear?
Do you hear anything?
You know, when you start to listen,
okay, not only do I see,
did I see the sun coming through?
I'm also seeing,
I'm also hearing the trees moving a little bit outside.
I'm hearing my voice reflecting off the walls.
I'm hearing music off in the distance.
I'm hearing a dog bark in my neighbor's house
or cross over there.
And you start to think about all the things you can hear.
How can you hear as much as,
I'm hearing the humming of my dishwasher.
I'm hearing the humming.
And you start to notice there's a lot of things
that you've been canceling out,
you haven't been paying attention to
in this present moment that you can hear.
So see, hear.
The last one is feel.
What do you feel?
You can now feel the seat on your butt. present moments you can hear. So see, hear. The last one is feel. What do you feel? Like you can
now feel the seat on your butt. You can now feel your feet touching the floor. You can feel your
t-shirt on. You can feel your pants on. You start to notice all of the things that you can feel.
And so that's going to bring you present. And then what you do, all at once, you try to bring in all
three of those things. What you see, what you hear, what you feel, and try to notice them
for two or three minutes. What happens is you start to notice all of the things you see,
you hear, you feel that you weren't being present to, and then start to slow your breathing down.
Breathe slowly, breathe consciously, and just allow yourself to just be present for a moment.
That alone is a really quick three, four, five minute, however long you want it to be,
way to bring yourself to the present moment
and notice the richness of the present moment.
Okay?
So that's the first thing.
Number two, we need to remember to be more present, right?
So you will never have anything
other than this present moment.
And if we're constantly anticipating a future,
then we will never have an amazing
and really experienced present moment.
If we're not fully present, when we're constantly thinking about the future, then we're never going to amazing and really experienced present moment. If we're not fully present,
when we're constantly thinking about the future,
then we're never going to have a fully present moment.
So that means even when you have
the most amazing moments in your life,
you're still thinking about something else
and some other future.
You're not fully present in those.
You know, there's a lot of people
that really don't experience the richness
of the present moments.
And when you can be aware of it
and you have these tools to be able to do it, remember that you need to be more present. So
number one, become aware that you are not present. Number two, remember to be present. You can use
this activity I just gave you. And number three, this one is not going to fit in the way that you
think it will, but I'm going to tell you it will. Don't fit in. That's the thing. You don't want to
fit in with everybody else. Trust me. And if
you're listening to this, I'm sure there's already a piece of you, whether it's consciously or
unconsciously, that knows that you do not want to fit in with the rest of the world. If you fit in
with the rest of the world, you are doing the exact thing that we've been raised to do. So for me,
I've noticed that the way I live my life, the way I make money, the way that I operate in the world
is vastly different than most people.
And I am okay with that.
But for a lot of people, we're raised not to stand out.
You know, there's things called like tall poppy syndrome.
Like if you look at a poppy field
and there's one little guy that's sticking up
higher than the other ones, you chop it down.
So I've heard about followers in Australia
talk about tall poppy syndrome
where you're not supposed to stand out, right? chop it down. So I've heard about followers in Australia talk about tall poppy syndrome,
where you're not supposed to stand out, right? So it is a little bit the exact opposite of what we've been trained to do, but you have to consciously go, you know what? I'm okay with
not fitting in. I'm okay with not fitting in. I'm okay with not fitting in. And if you do that,
number one, become aware. Number two, you realize that you have to be present. Number three,
you consciously try not to fit in and just to follow whatever it is that you want to follow.
If you don't want to go to school, then drop out of school.
If you do, then go to school.
If you're in a major that you don't like,
get out of that major and go to what you do like.
If you're working a job that you hate, leave it.
Now, when I say this, a lot of people are like,
yeah, but I have a mortgage.
I have to pay all of this stuff.
Cool.
Well, then make a two-year transition plan
where you're going to go from the job that you have
that you can't leave immediately
to the job that you want.
You're not stuck.
You are not a tree.
You can change at any moment.
Most people never wake up from the sleep that they are in,
this race that they are running
that they don't even want to be a part of.
They just were dropped into
and somehow they've been running their entire lives.
If you want to live a life that is rich,
that is meaningful, that is purposeful, you have to remove yourself from
what it is that we've been trained to do and start asking yourself, what is it that I want to do?
And so this whole episode is about removing yourself from it and discovering what it is
that you truly want to do and following that path. And then when you notice yourself being
too into the future and too into the future,
bring yourself back into the present moment with some of the practices
and see how rich a quote unquote boring moment can be.
So that's what I got for you for today's episode.
