Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to today's episode of the Mindset Mentor Podcast. I'm your host Rob Dial and if you have not yet done so, hit that subscribe button so that you never ever miss another episode. Today we're going to be talking about how life is just a crapshoot and there's always obstacles which will pop up in your way and how to work through those obstacles. And you can plan and you can plan and you can plan everything out. I know a lot of people are listening to this who are like hardcore planners.
Starting point is 00:00:34 You're like, everything's gotta be perfect. I don't take any action until I plan. But there's one guarantee in life is that if you make a plan, something is going to unexpectedly happen. It's going to throw you off course. There's one real guarantee in life. And the guarantee is this, is that things are going to happen that you did not see happening that will eventually knock you off course.
Starting point is 00:00:55 Tough times will come no matter what. And life comes in seasons. Now the seasons don't go exactly the same as the seasons, but obviously we have summer, fall, spring, and winter. We might be in winter right now for you. You might be in a winter season where it's just like you're closing off. Everything seems to be dying. You're going to be making massive changes, but the winter does not stay forever if you know that it's going to be coming. Now, some people mentally keep themselves in winter for years, even though winter has already passed for them. That season is gone. But then what happens after the winter? It turns into the spring and things start to grow and it starts to get beautiful and then become summer and then people have fun outside. And then it goes into
Starting point is 00:01:32 fall and then it goes into winter again. That's how the seasons of life work, exactly like the seasons that we have every single year. Now, with that being said, if we knew that winter would eventually come, that things that winter would eventually come, that things are going to eventually come, why are we floored by it? Have you ever thought about that? Why don't we work on ourselves when it is the spring, when it is the summer, so that therefore when the fall and the winter do come, it doesn't completely knock us off course.
Starting point is 00:01:59 This is the reason why people have self-development and why they have spiritual development, is to work on themselves so that they're prepared for all of the things that life could throw on them. You have to expect the unexpected. There's no difference. The difference between someone who lives an average life and someone who has mastered their life is that the person who's mastered their life has mastered their mindset and they've mastered themselves to be even keel no matter what life throws at them. The average life, someone, they might get obstacles and it completely debilitates them. And they're out for days, they're out for weeks. Something happens to them and it puts them out of commission for
Starting point is 00:02:39 a few days, a few weeks. Some people, one event can happen, one bad event, they can have something happen or a fight can happen or they can lose a few weeks. Some people, one event can happen, one bad event. They can have something happen or a fight can happen or they can lose a job or whatever it is. And it can put them out of commission for months. It can put them out of commission for years. And sometimes people have one event, one moment in their life that literally completely knocks them off for the entire life. And they never recover from one moment in time, they never actually recover. Some people have one life event that ruins their entire life. So if you knew that eventually one day the crap was going to hit the fan, why would you let it bring you down? Why couldn't you just
Starting point is 00:03:18 go, you know what? Do I want this to happen? Hell no, I don't want this to happen. But it is the winter. I seem to be in the winter right now. Some bad things are happening, but it can't be the winter forever. There's no way, there's no place where it's the winter forever. In every obstacle, there is an opportunity. And that's what you have to remind yourself. An opportunity to get better. An opportunity to grow. An opportunity to become the best version of yourself, to pay attention to how you react to things and maybe you should improve upon them, to learn and to move on. Because after the winter becomes the spring and that's when everything starts to grow and it becomes beautiful and the weather becomes amazing.
Starting point is 00:04:00 So anytime something bad happens to you, you need to ask yourself this question. What can I learn from this? Think about question, what can I learn from this? Think about that. What can I learn from this? In other words, how can I grow from this? Because we know after the winter should be the spring. That's the time for growth. The same way it happens with nature, it should happen internally inside of us.
Starting point is 00:04:20 Winter will not happen forever. You will not be stuck in winter forever, but you can mentally keep yourself in that winter if you don't get yourself out of it. So anytime something bad happens, always ask yourself the question, what can I learn from this? Some people sit around and they're like, oh, why me? Why does this always happen to me? Why am I always going through this? You know, I look at other people's lives on Instagram and it looks beautiful and it looks amazing. And they have these beautiful relationships and they're traveling all over the world and they seem to have all of the money and they seem like they have these perfect lives. Why is it me? And they play the victim card instead of the victorious card of, you know what? You know what I'm going to do?
Starting point is 00:04:57 I'm going to work through all this crap and I'm going to get better. Instead of why me, it's, you know what? It happened to me, but I'm going to get better from this. Instead of why me, it's, you know what? It happened to me, but I'm going to get better from this. Oh, why does this always happen to me? Why am I so cursed? You know, why do I have the worst luck? I seem to have the worst luck. Have you ever said that before?
Starting point is 00:05:13 Why do I have the worst luck? All of these other people seem to have such great luck. Why can't I just have a better life? You're not gifted a better life. You create a better life. People who master their life, they know when an obstacle comes is when they grow. It's not, why is this happening to me? It's not, this is happening to me. It's happening for me. It's brought to you for your growth. Go through this just for a second
Starting point is 00:05:41 with me. Just imagine, and I always like to ask this question whenever I give a talk and I ask people the question, do you feel like you're a human that tends to be having spiritual experience sometimes, or that you're a spirit that's having a human experience? Think about that for a second. Majority of the time, somebody says to me, oh, I feel like I'm a spirit that's having a human experience. And I'm like, okay, great. We can run with that. Now, there are some people that say, I feel like I'm a human that has some spiritual experiences. Okay. And I had this exact conversation with my mom and I was walking her through this whole thing. And what I said to her was, she's like, I feel like I'm a human that has a spiritual experience. I'm like, okay, cool. You know, I was in the room when my grandfather passed away, which was her father.
Starting point is 00:06:22 And I said, before grandpa passed away, five minutes before he passed away, which was her father. And I said, before grandpa passed away, five minutes before he passed away, he weighed exactly the same as he did five minutes after he passed away. What was the difference? And she's like, well, the life left his body. And I was like, so was he ever a human or was he a spiritual that was having a spirit that was in his body, keeping it going, keeping it moving. And then he decided to leave at one point. She's like, wow, I never thought of it that way. And I was like, the way that I like to see my life and I never, you know, whatever you believe in, you can completely believe in it. It doesn't matter to me whether you believe in God or the universe or, you know, whatever it is, the religion
Starting point is 00:06:59 that you follow. I said that I believe that the reason why we're here is to grow and learn and improve and to try to become the best version of ourself by the time that we die. The most quote unquote enlightened version of ourself. Now, and I never really understood at all in any sort of way. And this is me just being completely blatantly honest with you guys. I never understood in any sort of way reincarnation before I ever started doing psychedelics. And, you know, then you really startation before I ever started doing psychedelics. And, you know, then you really start to understand and see things a lot differently. Now it makes a lot of sense to me, like a lot, a lot of sense to me, which is crazy. Cause I thought that shit made no
Starting point is 00:07:32 sense a few years ago. And so I said to her, the way that I see it, we were talking about my dad and, you know, obviously my dad was an alcoholic. He passed away when I was 15. We went through some things like anybody would in that situation. But what I said is the way that I see it is that, you know, my soul was basically, you know, I like to visualize it as sitting off in, you know, the ether or the heavens or whatever it is that souls reside. And I was like, and you know what? And mom, yours was there with me. And we were looking through this book and we're flipping through kind of like we're flipping through and we're looking through a karaoke machine. And we're like, what song do we want to sing? We're looking through and we're going, okay, that Rob Dial, okay, look at his life. Okay, he's going to have an alcoholic father. Parents are
Starting point is 00:08:11 going to get divorced when he's nine years old, 10 years old. He's going to go through some challenges. He's going to get bullied on this day by this person. This is how it's going to work. At 15 years old, his father's going to pass away and da, da, da, da, da. And I looked at it and I went, huh, you know what? That one seems interesting to me. That one seems like the next path that I need to be on. And maybe your soul was with me, mom. And you're like, you know what? I'll take the mother and I'll be the mother and I'll go through it as well. So therefore I can't, and the reason why I'm saying this is because I can't hold resentment in any sort of way towards my father, towards all of the stuff that we did, because I see it as my choice. Now, is this actually what happened? I don't know, because I don't remember
Starting point is 00:08:49 it. Maybe it did. Maybe it didn't. I'm completely off. It doesn't really matter. That's just the thing that I'm bringing up that makes me feel better at this point. Maybe I'll change my mind in two years. It's all good. But the way that I see it though, is if that's the case, then I can't blame anybody for my situation. I can look at it and go, okay, I chose this life. I chose those challenges. I chose to have that father. I chose to have all those things because it would help me in my next level of enlightenment to get my soul to wherever the next best place is, wherever that is, whether it's in books that we've been reading that are ancient books for years, or whether it's something that's not
Starting point is 00:09:22 written down that we completely couldn't even comprehend. And for me, it allows me to go, you know what? Now when I do have the obstacles that pop up, I can go, what can I learn from this? How am I supposed to grow from this? Because I'm here on this earth to grow and to become better and to become, I guess, the most enlightened version of myself. That's the way that I see it. Which means that every single opportunity, excuse me, obstacle that pops up is an opportunity. And that's the way that I see it, which means that every single opportunity, excuse me, obstacle that pops up is an opportunity. And that's the way that we should see it. That's the way that I tend to see it. And the thing that I like to think of as well in this situation is as far as besides just
Starting point is 00:09:54 the soul's journey of it. And what makes it usually a lot easier for people to understand is if you go back and think of people that are athletes in the Olympics, right? Being an Olympian is a perfect example as well. You know, why do we love the Olympics? Because it gives us a glance of absolute human potential, potential that we all know that we have deep down inside of us. There's not a person out there that doesn't think that they could,
Starting point is 00:10:21 if they would have, you know, taken a left instead of taking a right, or they would have focused on their nutrition, they would have stuck with that sport, whatever it is, they know that they could have been better at something. Right? Now, that being said, we all know that becoming an Olympian, you have to fall down. Do you think they've fallen down? Do you think they've failed the Olympians? Do you think they've broken bones? Do you think they put blood, sweat, and tears into it? Do you think they've broken bones? Do you think they put blood, sweat, and tears into it? Do you think they've lost games? Do you think they've questioned whether they're good enough? Of course, probably a thousand times more than you and I combined. But you know what the difference is? They didn't let that mentality stop them.
Starting point is 00:10:56 They continue to keep pushing forward. When they lost, when they broke a bone, when they failed, when they had all of those things happen, they didn't stop and ask themselves, oh, why does this always happen to me? They just said, you know what? This is just another bump on the road and I'm going to get there eventually. And they didn't let any of those things stop them. They stopped and asked themselves, what can I learn from this? How can I get better from this? One of the things I love about watching athletes is when they have crazy injuries, right? They like tear Achilles. So they literally can't even walk barely. And it takes like 12 months to recover from like a torn Achilles. And they sit there and they're like, but I'm going to come back better. I'm going to come. They already
Starting point is 00:11:37 like immediately have that, that mentality of I'm going to come back better. Not my life is over. Not my career is over. I'm going to come back a better athlete because of this. How can you have that mentality? How can you see all of the obstacles, all of the roadblocks, all the things that have gone wrong, all the shit that you've been through in your entire life as opportunities for you to learn and grow and become the best version of yourself? Because things have to happen for you to get better. I think the phrase is, a smooth sea never made a skilled sailor, right? Nor become a skilled sailor. You have to go through the rough patches.
Starting point is 00:12:08 You have to go through the ups and the downs and the big waves and the storms that push you over. Because all of the events in your life that have happened and all of the ones that will happen, because they will happen, they're lessons. They're not roadblocks. They're not things that are supposed to hold you back. They're things that are supposed to propel you forward. There's a beautiful quote that I actually shared. I think it was on my Instagram earlier today. And so if you don't follow me on Instagram,
Starting point is 00:12:35 you can see it if you go ahead and follow me real quick. And it says, these mountains that you're carrying, you were only supposed to climb. How often do we have something happen to us and we carry it with us the rest of our life, right? These mountains that you're carrying, you were only supposed to climb. So what benefit can come from every single thing that happens to you in your life? So that's what I got for you for today's episode. If you love this episode, if you feel like there's someone in your life that needs to hear this, please do me a favor, please share this with them.
