on the Iron Mind Challenge. It's been going amazing and I just wanted to let you guys know
that if you happen to miss it, sorry, I'll keep you updated on it. Maybe I'll do another one.
Maybe I won't. Not quite sure, but just wanted to give you guys an update, let you know that we had
700, I think it was 713 people join. So it was amazing. So excited to do with everybody that's
going to be there. And also just got back from Mexico. Before then, I was in Florida for a couple weeks.
And a lot of people keep messaging me and saying like, how can they follow me? What am I on?
Because I guess you guys follow me through my podcast and not my social media. So you can
follow me on Facebook, just Rob Dial Jr. It's JR. So you can do facebook.com slash Rob Dial Jr. Probably the best way if you
really want to communicate with me, if you really want to see what's happening in my life and see
behind the scenes. Instagram stories seems to be the thing I'm spending the most time on right now.
So if you guys want to see where I'm traveling, where I am, random thoughts that pop into my head,
that can give you guys some tips. Go to Instagram. My Instagram handle is Rob Dial Jr. So R-O-B-D-I-A-L-J-R. So that's what
I got for you. Let's go ahead and dive in to today. Today, we're going to be talking about
one of my favorite quotes by Tony Robbins. And that quote is this, most people overestimate
what they can do in a year, but they underestimate what they can do in a decade. And what that means is this.
I have a lot of conversations with people who listen to my podcast
and my coaching clients in my one-on-one coaching and my group coaching as well.
And this is 100% true.
People overestimate what they can do in a year,
but they underestimate, they overestimate what they can do in a year,
but they underestimate what they can do in a decade or what they can do in a lifetime.
Most people want things to happen right away.
They want them to happen right away.
Not realizing that if you're going to build something successful, whether that's a successful business or whether that's a successful life,
the way that you do it is by putting time in and realizing that you don't have to take one big giant step to
success. It's just little teeny tiny steps every single day towards your destination. Most people
think that they can start a business today and be making a hundred thousand dollars by the end of
the year. That's a pretty rare case. For you to start a business today
and to become profitable by the end of the year is pretty rare in itself. But for you to start
a business today and grow it to millions of dollars within the next decade is definitely
possible because people overestimate what they can do in a short period of time, like a year,
and they underestimate what they can do in a decade. So the question that I have for you and the thing that I want you to consider is this,
are you playing the long game or are you trying to get the immediate gratification?
Because in 2017, most people are just shooting for the immediate gratification. And the reason
why is because naturally with the way communication works, with technology, with all of these things that are out nowadays,
we want instant gratification. If I want to know how far the sun is from the moon,
I can immediately put it in Google and within seconds, I can know what it is. Do you remember
what that was like? If you're older, if you're 10, 15, 20 years ago before Google existed,
if you wanted to know something like that, you'd have to go to the library. You'd have to look and hope that there was an encyclopedia that had the letters
that you needed in order to find out that answer. Otherwise you would just never know that answer.
That was the truth of what it actually was. You would never know that answer if it was not in
the encyclopedia. Now Google could give it to you in an instant. So most people, we want instant
gratification because we're so used to instant gratification with how great technology
is nowadays. We're used to the instant gratification. In 1980, the average person's
attention span was 29 minutes. In 2017, the average person attention span is eight seconds, eight seconds from 29 minutes.
If that doesn't show you right there of how much we want immediate gratification or how much we're
at least used to immediate gratification, nothing will. So if you want to build a successful life
or you want to build a successful business,
what you need to do is you need to ask yourself, am I playing the short game or am I playing the long game? Because you have to think about it. If you are trying to build a successful business or
successful life, it doesn't happen overnight and it definitely doesn't happen in a year.
But if it's important to you, if what you're doing, if what you're working for is important to you, you'll be okay with putting three to five to 10 years into building it.
Because when you build it that way, when you build a strong foundation, think of it this way.
If you're building a house, do you want the guys that are building your house to come in and lay
a foundation that they can get done in 10 minutes? Or do you want them to spend a week laying the foundation for your house?
You want them to spend a week.
You want them to put time and make sure that it's perfect,
make sure there's no cracks and make sure that it's leveled, right?
Because you're going to be building your house on top of it.
Well, then ask yourself this question.
What type of foundation are you building for your business?
What type of foundation are you building for your success? What type of foundation are you building for your success?
Is it really quick?
Is it trying to get, you know, that immediate, that cement to come in and the quick dry cement?
Are you just throwing it in there and building that foundation on your life and your business?
Or are you taking your time and making sure that you're doing the right things day in
and day out so that that foundation is perfect? So the house that you build on top of it will end up being safe on that foundation
for a hundred years. And that's exactly how you have to think about your life. Think about your
life as if you were building a house. You want the best foundation you can possibly get. And the way
to get the best foundation is to spend time on building the foundation. Greatness takes time. A great
business takes time. A great life takes time. So people overestimate what they can do in a year,
but they underestimate what they can do in a decade. So if you like this episode,
