Starting point is 00:00:27 us a rating and review. The more positive reviews that we get, the more that they actually show this podcast to people who don't listen to it and that allows us to grow. So if you would do that for me, I would greatly, greatly appreciate it. So therefore more people can find this podcast and hopefully more people's lives can be changed. Today, I'm going to talk to you and try to teach you what I think the answer to the toughest question in the entire world is. What is the purpose of life? And before I dive into it, let me fully state my ignorance before anything else. Okay. I'm 36 years old. I don't claim to know everything. There is no part of me that thinks that I know everything. I don't think that I'm a guru. I never want to be seen as a guru. I never want to be seen as a perfect person who has everything figured out. I just want to be an example of somebody who's working
Starting point is 00:01:12 on themselves and trying to figure out what this life is all about and hopefully be able to make some other people's lives a little bit better along the way. But I've been working on myself and growing now for about 16, 17 years now. And I feel like I've, in my life, if I'm being honest, I feel like I've checked off pretty much most of the boxes that people want to check off in life. And I don't say that to brag in any sort of way. I just say it just to kind of state where I am. I've spent a good portion of my life going for money. And I would say the first 34 years of my life until I hit a financial goal that I wanted to hit, my entire life was mostly, I mean, I was wanting to do good. I was wanting to
Starting point is 00:01:51 create an amazing life and all that stuff. But the main driver of it was money. And I realized that it didn't make me happy. And in fact, the day that I hit the thing that I wanted to hit that goal, that financial goal, I realized that nothing changed in my life, right? I didn't feel better about myself. I didn't feel worse about myself. I felt a little bit lost if I'm being honest with you, because I had this goal, I hit the goal and I'm like, well, now what the hell do I do? And, you know, you can, I guess you can buy things you weren't able to buy before, but buying shit doesn't make you happy. And I know it sounds corny and cliche, like money doesn't buy happiness. It doesn't, you know, it does buy jet skis and jet skis make you happy as, uh, the, I heard a comedian say one time. Um, but, but in reality, more than anything else, it's not going to make
Starting point is 00:02:39 you happy. Uh, I think a lot of people, if I'm being honest with you, I've seen this, a lot of people become very successful. Some people become with you, I've seen this a lot of people become very successful Some people become famous musicians and we've seen this before and then they end up getting depressed becoming alcoholics killing themselves and the reason why I think is a lot of people not everybody but I think a lot of people think that Getting to the mountaintop and getting to the top of the mountain will finally make them feel better And it never actually makes you feel better You realize that you've gotten to the top of this mountaintop that society wants you to get to and that you thought you wanted to get to. And then nothing changes. You still feel exactly the
Starting point is 00:03:12 same about yourself as you did 10 years ago because you didn't change. And so with that being said, if that's not the point, why are we here? What is the purpose of life? And I think the purpose of life for me, and if you have a different opinion that's completely fine is to grow spiritually to grow mentally to grow emotionally to grow right and i don't mean just like religiously because i think a lot of religions restrict spiritual growth for most people i'm not knocking religion in any sort of way for some people that path is the path. And so, you know, if you have something that is your religion and you feel like that's what you get
Starting point is 00:03:49 from it, it's something that you want to grow it, hell yeah, keep going for it. I'm not here to say what's right. I'm not here to say what's wrong. I'm just here to say that I think that we all are here to grow in some sort of way. And, you know, for those of you guys that are here right now, and so some of you guys may be ultra religious and that's beautiful and that's great. Some of you might be listening to me that are agnostic or atheists. I think there's still a way to grow spiritually and you can learn and to actually grow from it and realize that there is a spiritual feeling to learning and growing in everything that you do.
Starting point is 00:04:21 And a few weeks ago, a few months ago, I did a podcast called Life is a Classroom. And I really truly do believe that life is a classroom. That's what we're here to do. We're here to learn. We're here to grow. What happens after this life? I don't know. I have some thoughts and some theories, but there's no way to know what it is. But I do believe that this life is like a classroom. I believe that there is something that happens after this. I believe that there was probably something that we had, some sort of soul before we came into this life. And I think there's a possibility that something could happen after this life, whether that's heaven, I don't know, whether we get more lives and our soul continues to go on thousands and thousands and thousands of more journeys. I don't know. It could be on this planet. It could be on another planet. It could be on somewhere else. I don't know. It could be on this planet. It could be on another planet. It could be on somewhere else.
Starting point is 00:05:05 I don't know. I'm not going to act like I know. The problem is when someone acts like they know, right? We don't know anything. And so I don't know. And I'll never act like I know. But I'm going to try to give you some thoughts as to how we can make the most out of this life.
Starting point is 00:05:20 All I know is that I have the feeling that I'm here to learn and to grow in some sort of way. And this classroom is a classroom when I consciously decide to step in it, right? And it's consciously starting to realize that, oh, this circumstance was brought to me when, you know, for me to grow more than anything else, right? And it is, at all points in time, a classroom. And we can consciously decide that it's a classroom, or we can kind of turn our blind eye and not learn and grow from each thing. And it's not just a classroom when we decide to sit and journal, or when we decide to meditate, or when we decide to read.
Starting point is 00:06:04 when we decide to sit and journal, or when we decide to meditate, or when we decide to read. It is a classroom every single second of the day. Every single second of the day. And it could be life, it could be God, it could be the universe, throwing people and circumstances at me and you that allow us to wake up and grow from what it is that we're supposed to be here doing, right? up and grow from what it is that we're supposed to be here doing, right? And I will be saying this, I've said this to you guys before, and I think I said this to you about a week or two ago, is, you know, I don't see a finish line that I'm going to cross. I don't see a destination. And I don't feel like this is just something I'm just going to be like, oh, I made it and everything is perfect. And for some people that can feel a little bit stressful, but for me, it's really freeing knowing that I know what I'm here to do. I've got this feeling. We're here to grow. We're here to learn. And if you are religious, you can see this and say, okay, well, or if you're religious
Starting point is 00:06:57 or spiritual or whatever it is that you might categorize yourself as, I'm going to talk about both, whether you are or not. If you are, you can look at it and say, okay, this is God or the universe or whatever it is that you believe in, life, bringing me these circumstances so that I can grow. And you can look at it that way if you want to. Or if you're on the other side, whichever side you are, I will never judge somebody for their beliefs. That's the one thing that I would never do, right? If you're on the other side and you don't believe in anything, you can still look at it and say, well, you know, I'm here. I'm supposed to be learning and growing from it. How can I look at each thing that's brought to me, each circumstance, each person, each event, and actually try to learn and grow from it, right? Wouldn't that be a better way of going
Starting point is 00:07:36 through life of just seeing everything that comes to us as just a way to learn and grow? NAD plus supplementation is an important part to your health as you age. And when I had an anti-aging doctor from Harvard on this podcast, he spoke about how important NAD was for us as we continue to age. Elysium products target aging at its source. Now, you know, some people might be out there and you might like, for instance, you might be a parent and you're like, well, I'm here to be a parent. Or you might be a spouse. You're like, I'm here to be a spouse.
Starting point is 00:10:20 What happens to my family if I just go on this spiritual journey or this learning journey? What happens to them? And they think, and this is what's super important to bring in. They think that it's either like, oh, I learn and grow, or I'm a great parent, or I'm a spouse, or I can help my family. And if you're thinking that way, I think what's happening is you're actually missing the point. This is super important. I think this is a key point for people to know is your growth doesn't come in spite of your family. Your growth doesn't come in spite of your spouse or your children. Your growth comes through them. For those of you guys that are parents, you probably know the most triggered that you've probably ever been in your life is usually through your children. They know how to trigger you. They are your greatest teachers. So they've been brought to
Starting point is 00:11:08 you. You can look at it through this lens if you want to. They've been brought to you for you to be able to learn and grow through being their parent. Not in spite of it, you're going to learn and grow. In spite of them, you're going to learn and grow. No, no, no. You're going to learn and grow through them. They are some of your greatest teachers. They are part of the path, right? So you've got to think about that for a second. Okay. Well, how do I learn and grow from every time that I have with my child where they're triggering me in some sort of way? When they're asking me why 400 times in a row, when having a mental breakdown and Chick-fil-A, right? Like when you're actually going through that, you can take a step back and be like, okay, I feel my senses. I feel my emotions
Starting point is 00:11:56 heightening up. I want to get really freaking pissed off. Let me breathe through it. Let me see if in the middle of the storm, I can be the calm. If in the middle of this craziness, I can let this craziness happen and I can be the calm one instead of me being set off as well. And from, you know, and you can look at it through this with your children. You can look at this way with your spouse. You can look at it this way with your parents. You know, if your parents trigger the hell out of you, all of it, all of it, every single piece of it is here for you to grow from. And the way that I see it, I just like to see life as like a little bit of a game. Life presents you with things, with people, with circumstances to show you where you're still hung up, to show you where you still have work to do.
Starting point is 00:12:42 And like I said, a few minutes ago, that can be frustrating for some people like, damn it, I'm not perfect yet. You never will be, but you can look at it and go, you know what? Okay. This is just my next thing to work on. And the better that you become at the better, the better you become at this game, the better that your children's life becomes, the better that your spouse's life becomes, the better that your parents' life becomes, the better that you become at this game of life and learn and grow and get better, the better that every person around you's life becomes as well. Because you become an example of how to free yourself from all of these illusions, all of these things that have been put on us by society,
Starting point is 00:13:20 by our parents, by all of that. Because the more that you work on yourself, the better you become. The better that you become, the better that their lives become. The better that everyone else's lives become, the better that every single person who they come in contact with becomes as well. So it comes back to the phrase, be the change. There's so many things that are happening in the world right now and people want to blame and they want to, hey, this person's not on the same team as me. This person's on a different side. I'm on this side, the left side, the right side, the right side, the left side, that they believe in this. It's like there's so many people just picking sides at this point. And it's not that we need to look at other people and we need to say, hey,
Starting point is 00:13:59 how are they wrong? And how am I right? We look at other people and we just say, okay, if there's changes, like if you look at the entire world and you say, what needs to change in the world? And you were to make a list of everything that needs to change. You know, I want people to be more kind. I want people to be more accepting. I want people to be more open to other ideas. And then you look at all the things that you put down, you got to ask yourself, on a scale of one to 10, what would I rate myself? I bet you'll be surprised by what you would rate yourself. It's much lower than you think it would be. And then you realize, shit, I want the world to be this way. I want other people to be this way, but I actually need to be this way.
Starting point is 00:14:42 And when you start to change, you know, be the change you want to see in the world is what Gandhi said. You actually become the changes you want to see in the world. You become like a lighthouse for other people to look at you and say, oh man, that person seems like they're like free of the matrix. That person seems like they're out of this illusion. And they feel like they're not, they look like they're so much happier. I want to be happier. I want to be more free. I want to be less triggered. I want to be more peaceful. You become an example of what's possible. And that's how the world actually changes. Not from trying to change other people, but trying to change ourselves. And maybe we die and we go somewhere. Maybe we die and we get another life. Maybe we die and nothing happens.
Starting point is 00:15:19 I don't know. But from my point of view, when you live your life knowing that this life is just a classroom, that we're all going to get triggered, we're all going to get hung up, we're all going to screw things up at some point in time, we're going to act in ways where we look back and wish that we wouldn't have acted that way, we're all going to fuck up in some sort of way, those are just opportunities to show us where we need to get better next time. And you can ignore those if you want to, or you can look at them and to ignore those is like failing a test and then not studying before doing it again. Or you can look at them and say, okay, that was a test. I failed that test. How can I get better on the next test when it pops up? It's a classroom trying to get better on the next test when it pops up? It's a classroom trying to
Starting point is 00:16:05 get better on the test each time. And it's a lifelong thing. I don't think it's ever going to stop. Like for me, you know, for those of you guys that are watching on camera, there's a tattoo that's on my wrist right here that I got. And it's a Roman numeral for 10,000 to remind myself of the 10,000 hour rule, which is, you know, it takes about 10,000 hours to master something. And I wanted a constant reminder of myself. It's hours to master something. And I wanted a constant reminder of myself, and it's on my left wrist so I see it every single day, that life is not something that you just master. It's something that you work on and you try to learn and you try to grow and you try to improve every single day. And when you go into each day thinking,
Starting point is 00:16:39 what can I learn today? How can I grow today? How can I become a better person today? How can I be more of an example of what other people should be? It makes it so much easier to just wake up and go out into the day and be happier and try to learn from it. So what are you here to learn? What are you still hung up on, right? Where were you supposed to get lessons that you haven't let go of? If you're looking back on something that happened seven years ago and you're still pissed off at that person, that's the lesson you're not learning. If something continues to happen over and over and over again, you haven't learned the lesson. And so it's going to continue to be repeated to you until you finally learn the damn lesson.
Starting point is 00:17:26 That's the cool thing about it. You fail the test. Here's another test. You fail the test. Here's another test. You fail the test. Here's another test. Why don't you just start actually working better on the test so that you don't have to get that test ever again?
Starting point is 00:17:35 You know, so what are you supposed to, what are the lessons you were supposed to get from something, but you're just not letting go of it? What are the mountains that you're carrying that you were only meant to climb? And then where do you have opportunities to grow? How can you look at it of more opportunities to grow, to learn, to improve, and to realize that's probably all we are here to do. To just learn, to grow, and to enjoy it. I heard a thing the other day and said, what are we here to do? One of the purposes of life, one of the purposes of life is to just enjoy the passage of time. Just enjoy the ride that we're on. We're here. There's nothing we can do about that. We can
Starting point is 00:18:12 remove ourself from this if we want to, but hopefully we don't. But we can look at it and we say, how can we just enjoy the way that the time passes? For me, when I feel like I'm learning and I'm growing and I'm improving and I'm getting better, that is when I actually become my happiest. And for most people that I've coached over years and years and years, that's what I found with them as well. And so, you know, what are you here to learn? What are you still hung up on? And where do you still have opportunities to grow? Because in my thoughts, that's one of the only things we're here to do. So that's what I got for you for today's episode.
