Welcome to the MWF Motivation Podcast, one of the top-rated motivational podcasts in
the world.
Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, I come out with a short, to-the-point, no-BS podcast
designed to transform you from who you are today into who you want to be.
There's no fluff here, just life-changing content.
My name is Rob Dial, and the podcast starts now.
Welcome to today's episode.
If you have not yet done so, please subscribe to us, however you listen to us.
So today I'm going to ask you a very simple question, but it's very, very vague as well. A lot of people ask me how to start journaling. And so I'm going to tell you
how I journal and what helps me the most, but also it's going to give you clarity on what you want
in your life. So if you want to start journaling, and even if you don't want to start journaling,
I would recommend it, number one. But if you don't want to, if you're like, screw what this
guy Rob says, whatever, I want to ask you this question. What do you want? That's it. What do you want?
Most people don't know what they want. And that's why they never get what they want is because they
never actually put it out there into the universe. You've heard the phrase, ask and you shall receive.
Well, you don't know what you're asking for. You don't know what to
ask for. And so you need to figure out what you want. It's like being pissed off at your mom for
getting you the Christmas present that you didn't want, but you didn't tell her what you wanted when
she asked. She can't get you the present just by guessing. The universe or God or whatever you
believe in is not going to give you what you want if you don't even freaking know what you want,
because then it shows God or the universe or whatever you believe in that you don't care
enough. So when I ask you, what do you want? It might be the hardest question you will ever have
to answer. What do you want? And you might ask yourself, what do I mean by what do I want?
What do I want with what? Where? What part of my life are you asking about?
what do I want? What do I want with what? Where? What part of my life are you asking about?
That's the beauty of the question. You can ask yourself this every single day and your answer can be different because you want different things on different days. And you can start
mining your answers for results. So when I open up my journal each day, I ask myself,
what do I want? And that's it. And then I just start writing and different things start coming to my head
and I start planning my life and my goals
and get my vision.
And my life plan comes from that.
Most people don't have a plan or goals for their life.
And if you're listening to this podcast
and you've never done it before,
if you don't ever listen to another one of my podcasts
because you're too busy journaling
about your life goals and your plans, I'm okay with that. That might be one of
the most important things you will ever do is plan out your life. So when I ask you that,
it could be different every single time. What do I want? And then after you write down the answer
that, you ask yourself this question, what do I need to do to get it?
It's simple. It's extremely simple. But sometimes it's hard for people to pull these answers. And
sometimes you'll sit down in your journal and you write down, what do I want? And you'll write down
one or two things. Sometimes you'll sit down and you'll write down 10 pages. It's just kind of the
way it works. Your brain works differently. And once you start doing this a few times,
then you can get very specific. What do I want in my finances? What do I want in my business?
What do I want in my relationships? What do I want in my health? What do I want in my personal
growth? What do I want in XXXX? And you put all of these different things down and you can write
it. And then what you say is, what do I need to do to get it? And you start making a plan because here's the deal. Most of you, most of
everybody in the world just drives their car around and they've been driving around forever
aimlessly. That's it. They've been driving their car around aimlessly. There's no direction. It's
not going anywhere specific. It's just been driving around for a long time. If you don't
know where you're trying to go, you're never going to get
there. People that are very intent with their life, people that are successful, people that
have happy lives, you know what they do? They get in their car, they put in the GPS, their destination
of what they want their life to be, what they want from their life, and then they work towards it.
They work towards it. So if you've never written down your goals,
you've never written down your life plan, you've been driving around the city your entire life,
aimlessly going nowhere. And then you ask yourself, why are you not happy where you are?
Well, because you don't know what the F you're doing. That's why. So if you sit down and you
make these plans, you start thinking, well, what do I want for my
life? You plan it. This isn't something that we're taught in school. This is why traditional
education pisses me off because nobody goes, there's no goal setting or life planning classes
in high school or in college, right? So nobody knows to do this, but I'm telling you, this is what you want to do to
get to where you want to be because you have to figure out where you are trying to go. It's like
getting mad at your GPS for not taking you where you want to go, but then you're like, oh crap,
I forgot to put in the address. Well, yeah, then of course you're never going to get there.
So what you do is you get a pen and paper and you ask yourself, what do I want? What the F do I want for my life?
What do I want?
And you keep asking yourself day after day after day and you'll start getting answers
and you start making some plans and this is where goals come from.
And then you ask yourself, how do I get it?
How do I get there?
How do I get that relationship?
How do I get that much money?
How do I get that business that I want?
How do I get that family that I want?
How do I get the personality that I want, the body that I want? If you don't sit it down and write down and figure it out, you're never
going to get there and you're never going to get what you want because you don't even really know
because you're not clear on what it is that you want. So you have to ask yourself this question,
what do I want? And be very vague sometimes and then be very specific sometimes. Ask yourself,
what do I want? And then sometimes ask yourself, what do I want in my relationship? What do I want
in my marriage? What do I want in my family? What do I want in my school? What do I want in my
education, in my body, and all of these things? And you get very specific on exactly what it is
that you want. Once again, though, the quality of your life, I've said this before,
will be dictated by the quality of the questions you ask yourself daily. Therefore,
by asking yourself this question, you'll be able to get the quality of your life figured out and
you will start to level up your life. Now, I'm going to tell you this. Whenever you jump in your
car and you hit the GPS,
it'll take you to where you want to go. Have you ever been there before and then there's an
accident in front of you? What do you do? You don't go, well, all right, I'm going to turn
around and go back home. That's not what you do. What do you do? You hit the detour button
and you keep going. Once you know what you want, once you know what your life plan is,
your life path, what it is that you want from your life, things are going to pop up.
Bad things are going to happen, but it doesn't mean that you just decide to go home.
What you do is you hit the detour button and you still make your way to the destination.
You just take a different path.
Most people never decide what they want.
They have a very vague idea of what they want in their life, in their relationship, in their bank account, but they never write down with a pen and paper exactly
what it is that they want. If you want greatness from your life, start making a plan. The best
sports teams in the world, do they have a plan before they go into every game? Yeah. And then
sometimes they call a timeout and redo the plan. That's what your life has to be.
You have to look at it that way.
You have to plan it out.
You have to make a decision on what it is that you want.
And I promise you, if you pause this, if you turn this off as soon as it's done,
and you get a pen and paper and you start writing down what it is that you want,
you'll get more clarity on your life.
And this is a practice you should do for six months, eight months, a year.
I've been doing it for 10 years now.
You will get extremely clear on what it is that you want.
And then people will look at you and be like, what is the difference with him?
What's the difference with her?
They're so driven.
Yeah, because you now know what you're working for.
When before you weren't really sure.
