overlooked parts of hitting your goals in creating the life that you want. And, you know, I'm going
to give you a really big tip that I think is really, really overlooked in personal development.
I'm going to talk about creating the life that you want.
If I'm being honest with you, just saying the phrase, creating the life that you want, just feels like such a corny phrase.
I'm going to be honest with you.
I'll just say this though.
It's so true though. You either settle for the life that you have in the life that comes to you or you consciously decide
That i'm going to go out and actually create my life and if you're listening to this podcast
There's a piece of you that already kind of knows that but I want to bring it to the front of your mind
And I want you to really think about it you
Create your life and what you need to do and the reason why you're here listening to this
Is because you want to go out and create your life.
It is absolutely 100% your creation.
You have every, you've created every single thing that's around you.
Most people, the problem with it though, is that they're creating very passively.
They're just, you know, just waking up and they have no plan and they're just kind of
letting things happen. And they're just you know just waking up and they have no plan and they're just kind of letting things happen and they're just seeing what happens I wake up today and let's just hope that today doesn't
suck versus having a plan when you wake up in the morning of exactly how today is going to go
and that's just you know a simple question I have for you is when you woke up this morning did you
have a plan of exactly what you wanted today to look like did you have a plan of exactly what you
wanted to execute on did you have a plan of exactly what it is that you're going to do to make today another step
in the direction that you want to go to in your life? Or did you just go, oh, let's just hope that
today doesn't suck, you know? And so today in today's episode, we're going to talk about how
to create your life. And I'm going to make this very, very simple for you. It is not hard. It's
not rocket science, but it really is super important for you. It is not hard. It's not
rocket science, but it really is super important as you start to listen to it. There's where you
are right now and there's where you want to be. And there's a gap in between that. So there's,
let me say it again. There's where you are right now, which, you know, if you could see me,
that's my left hand and my left hand is extended all the way out. And there's where you want to be,
let's say five years from today, which is my right hand extended out. And there's a gap in between that.
Today, we're going to be talking about how to fill in that gap to make sure that you go from my left
hand to my right hand, which means that you go from the life that you have to the life that you
want. And you need to fill in that gap. And, you know, let's talk about five years from now.
And let's talk about one year from now.
Because sometimes when we look too far into the future, it can seem so far away that it's almost demotivating.
Where it's like, yeah, that's too far away.
It's too much.
I don't know if I can create all of that.
And so let's just, let's talk about one year.
Let's talk about five years.
But let's dive into five years first.
If you look at your life and you look at where you are right now, you know, 2022. then you say, you know what? I'm going to go and I'm going to create something amazing.
And you ask yourself, where do you want to be in five years? Five years from now, where do you want
to be? Write it down. If you're driving, then I just want you to think about it, okay? But what
is a life that feels like a hell yes for you? Where you're like, oh my God, for me to have this
life in five years, that's just a hell yes life for me. What is it? If you need to you like, oh my God, for me to have this life in five years, that's just a hell yes life
for me. What is it? If you need to pause me and you have a pen and paper, write it down. Like,
what does a five-year goal look like for you? Just a hell yes, five years from today. What's
that life that's a five-year hell yes for you? A life that gets you excited. And one thing that I
always say about life and what we
should be doing is we should be following our energy. And I talked about this a few episodes
ago of something called the heliotropic effect. The heliotropic effect is the idea that everything
grows, which that that gives it life. Everything grows towards that which gives it life. So if you
look at in the heliotropic effect in plants, plants are always growing towards the sun. Why? Because the sun is giving them life. Now, what does this have to do with
your goals? If you want to grow towards your goals, you want to have something that gives you
energy the same way that energy, the sun gives plants energy. You want to follow an energy that
feels like, oh my God, I'm so excited about this. I'm so excited about what my life could be in five years. So when you plan out,
you have to follow your energy, follow the feeling, the feeling, not the thoughts, the feeling
of what an amazing life would be for you. If you're planning something out and you're writing
it down and you're pausing and you're writing stuff down and you look at that piece of paper
and you're like, I don't know if this gives me energy and it doesn't give you energy. It's not for you.
For instance, if you're in a relationship and you think of that relationship that you're in
in five years, does that relationship feel like a hell yes to you? Do you feel like growing alongside
that person that you're in a relationship with gives you energy. Does it make
you excited to be in a relationship with them in five years? If so, then hell yeah, follow that
energy and follow a way that you can both grow together and that relationship can be even more
of a hell yes for you. But if you look in five years from now and that relationship does not
give you energy, that relationship needs to change. You and that
person either need to change in the relationship for it to actually give you energy, or you need
to change out of that relationship and find a new one. Same with, you know, any, everything else in
your life. If you look at your job as an example as well, how you make money, whether you have your
own company, whether you work for a company, whatever it is, if we fast forward five years and you start thinking about how you make money, does it give
you energy? Do you still want to be making money the same way that you are right now?
So you think about this and do this with every aspect of your life. You do this with
your relationship. You do this with your job and how you make money with your company,
with your employees. You know, if you look at how you make money, with your company, with your
employees. If you look at your employees, if you have your own business, are you a hell yes,
you want these people around you in five years? You do this with your friends, you do this with
your health, your body, with your children, in your relationship with your children,
every single aspect of your life. Think about what they would look like in five years and
something that would actually give you energy and make you excited to have every aspect of that rolling on all cylinders.
And then once you get clear on your five years, because now we're looking at like
a projection out into the far future five years from now, let's think about the next 12 months.
We're at the beginning of the year. So where do you need to be in, you know, if you look at your
five-year plan, where do you need to be at the end of this year to be on track for your five-year plan?
Think of it, think of it this way.
See your years as checkpoints in your life.
So, you know, if we're talking five years out, you have five checkpoints that you need
to have over the next five years.
Each year is a checkpoint. Where do you need to be
at the end of the first checkpoint to be on track for your five-year goal? And you start to plan out
your relationship. What does your relationship look like one year from today? Your job, what does your
job look like? What does your career look like one year from today? You think of your company,
what does your company look like one year from today? What do your employees look like one year from today? You think of your company. What does your company look like one year from today? What do your employees look like one year from today? Think of your friends and
your relationships with your friends. Think about your health and your body. Think about your
relationship with your children. Think of every aspect of your life and what the first checkpoint
is one year from today. And where do you want all of them to be by the end of this year, by December 31st
at the end of this year? Where do you want every single one of those to be?
Hey, has this ever happened to you? You need to see a doctor, you search for one that looks good,

people usually miss. When you're looking through this and you're starting to see this life and
hopefully it's giving you energy by thinking about this and you're starting to see this life, and hopefully
it's giving you energy by thinking about this and feeling into it and writing it all down on paper.
Now, the most important part is who do you need to be in order to create that life? Who do you
need to be in order to create that life? Because people too often, they focus on what they need to
do, which believe me, what you need to do is important. You do have to do things to create this life. But what's more important than what
you need to do is who you need to be in order to actually have that life. Because if you're a
person that can create that life, then you will automatically do what needs to be done. And so
think about this real quick. If you are the type of person that can create that
life a year from today, then you will automatically do what needs to be done in order to create it.
And so let me show you what I mean just so we can kind of put this into some context, okay?
When you look at your one-year goals, if you were the person that could create that life today,
on your goals. If you were the person that could create that life today, you would already have it.
Does that make sense? If you were the person that could create the goals, all of the goals that you have at the end of this year, you would already have created it. So it shows that building yourself
is more actually more important than actually building your life. Because when you build yourself,
that life that you want becomes a byproduct of the things that you do
because you automatically do those things.
And I can give you guys a perfect example.
You know, I've been saying this for years.
And every year as I get older and I get older
and I get older, this becomes more and more true for me
because I'm starting to see who I used to be years ago,
five years ago, and who I am now and how I wouldn't be able to handle the life I have now
five years ago. And so, you know, when I look at this, the life I have now, there's no way,
no, absolutely no way that I, the person that I was five years ago could have this life
because I probably would have exploded. I would have had a spontaneous
human combustion and I would have literally exploded from the inside out trying to keep
this life together because I was not yet the person who could create this life. I wasn't the
person that was deserving of this life. It wasn't possible for me to keep up with this life. But over
time, I've built myself and I've built myself and I've built myself
one brick at a time, one day at a time, one brick at a time, one day at a time. And now I'm a
completely different person than I was before. And anyone who knows me knows that I'm a really,
really busy person. And so let me just show you from my example of the way that I see my life
and the way that I've built my life over years and how everything's been.
And just give you an idea of what's going on in my life and why it would be so hard for me when
I was younger to be able to have the life I have now. And I'll kind of go through it just to kind
of give you a real quick idea. I have a ton of plates that I spin. I have this podcast in creating
content and keeping up with everything that we do for the podcast. And I have a podcast team for that. I have creating content. I create a ton of content for social media, for
Instagram, for Facebook, for YouTube. We're starting to put more and more stuff out on TikTok.
I'm 99% done with my book that's coming out later on this year. It should probably be about
summertime. So that took a whole lot of work over this past year. I have my coaching business, which we have around 19 employees now in Austin and then
all over the world. So basically I kind of have three different jobs. I have three jobs that I
work every single day. And then also on top of that, I have my personal life. I have my fiance
and I spending time with her and making sure that we grow our relationship. I have my fiance and I spending time with her and making sure that we grow our relationship.
I have my health and I'm working on my health every single day and making sure that that
becomes better.
I have my own personal development and growing myself and working on myself.
I have this new hobby I picked up.
I'm learning how to fly a plane.
And so it's like I have extra stuff that I'm doing on top of that.
And it hit me one day and I was talking with Lauren about this.
If Rob in 2015, Rob that started the Mindset Mentor podcast
way back in the day in August in 2015 when it was called MWF Motivation,
whether you guys know that, that's what the original name of the podcast was
because it came out Monday, Wednesday, Friday.
If I took Rob in 2015, when I started this podcast
and I put him in my place right now,
he would probably have a
mental breakdown because it would be too much for him. It's just, there's so many plates are
spinning and none of the stuff stresses me out now. But if I were to try to live this life back
then, like bring that guy into this year and try to do it, oh yeah, I'd probably have a mental
breakdown. It would have been too much, but I've grown myself enough to have the mental bandwidth to hold it all together. And I have fun doing it,
which is what's cool. If you look at people like Elon Musk, for instance, Elon Musk has
three different multi-billion dollar companies. Now, if you were to take me and try to put myself
into Elon Musk's role, I would probably explode as well. You would probably explode because we simply just haven't built ourselves the same way that he has built himself.
But he's grown himself over time. First, he was just originally just a creator of PayPal,
and then he grew himself, and he grew his bandwidth, and he grew himself, and he grew
his bandwidth. And now he has the capacity to run and be the CEO of three multi-billion dollar
companies to be the richest man in the world. But it's because he has built himself into that. And I can see that in myself when I go,
oh man, the way that I can actually have the bandwidth is because I focus on building myself
while taking the action in order to create this life. And that's the important thing that I want
you to understand from today's episode is it's not just what you do. The things need to be done.
Don't get me wrong. You have to do things in order to get the life that you want.
You can't just sit there and meditate and then wake up and you're like, oh my God, look, I'm a
billionaire. I'm a millionaire. I have a very successful company and I haven't done any action
to get there. No, but the important part is to build yourself. You know, it's, I didn't just sit
around and read books and then meditate and go to conferences and not take action and somehow got this life.
And that's what you have to realize is that it's like you go to the gym every single day
for the next five years.
Do you think you're going to have bigger muscles?
Yeah, you're going to have much bigger muscles.
And that simply means that you can just lift more.
You're just simply able to lift more.
And so when you look at your one-year goals, who do you need to be
in order to create that life? And then what you do is you start planning out the person that you
need to be. So now that we've come to the realization that you need to be a different
person to create that life, who do you need to be? And this is where you can pause me if you want to
start taking some more notes and start figuring out who you need to be.
But just think about this as I'm asking these questions and as you're thinking about it,
you know, who do you need to be to create that life?
What does that person do?
If you were to pretend that it's not even you, pretend it's not you, because at this
point, it's not you.
Pretend it's just a different person that has the life that you want.
What do they need to do on a daily basis?
What do they do on a daily basis?
You know, what type of habits do they have? What type of habits do you need to have in a daily basis? What do they do on a daily basis? You know, what type of habits
do they have? What type of habits do you need to have in order to create that life? If you're
looking at it as if it's a different person, it's not even you. What standards do they hold
themselves to that you're not currently holding yourself to? How do they talk to themselves?
How do they talk to themselves in their own head? How do they talk to others? How did the, do they build themselves up? Do they build others up? Are they the person that
everybody wants to be on? What are the characteristic traits of that person? Are they a
great leader? What habits do they have? How do they talk to themselves? How do they talk to others?
How do they, how do people around them think of them? Do they think that they can rely on them? Do they think,
hey, if I give John something that he needs to do or something that I asked him to do,
will he get it done? Can I count on him to follow through? Do they have people that know that they
can follow, that they can rely on them to follow through? What does their morning routine look like?
Write down what the morning routine of the perfect version of you looks like.
How do they take care of their body? Well, the perfect version of you, how do they take care
of their body? The perfect version of you, how do they take care of their mind? The perfect
version of you, how do they take care of the people that are all around them? And speaking of that,
who do they hang out with? Who are the people that need to be around them to support them?
Because you can't go through this alone.
You're going to need people around you.
You're going to need really good people around you.
So who do they hang out with?
What are those people like?
What are their characteristics?
What are their traits?
How do they build that person up?
And what happens is you start to get really clear.
Like what does this person's nightly vision look like?
What do their meditation practice look like?
What does it look like on a daily basis?
What are they doing in and out, minute by minute, hour by hour, everything?
And you start to get really clear on this person.
And this person that you're writing down on pen and paper is a person that you need to be.
And the focus now becomes who you need to be and build yourself into that person
while also taking the action that's
necessary in order to create that life as well. And so I want you to realize, do you need to do
things to create the life that you want to? Abso-freaking-lutely you do. You can't just sit
on your hands and just hope and pray that one day you're going to have this perfect life. Of course,
you've got to do things. But what's more important than just doing the things is building yourself into the person that can create that life.
Because if you focus on building yourself into the version that can create that life,
it will be so much easier to go out and do what needs to be done
in order to create that one year and that five-year vision that you have.
So that's what I got for you for today's episode.
