Welcome to today's episode. If you have not yet done so, hit that subscribe button so
you never miss another episode of this podcast. And today we're going to be talking about
one of my favorite things to talk about, which is acting as if. And you know, I've heard
a lot of different things. I've heard acting as if is if and you know I've heard I've heard a lot of
different things I've heard acting as if is a great idea I've heard that it's a terrible idea
and I'm going to sell you right now on why I think it is a great idea and it's going to make a lot of
sense to you by the time I get done so you know I'm going to talk about acting as if and we've
all heard the phrase acting as if and I'm going to tell you why it's important
to use it in your life and exactly how to apply it because I think there's a lot of
misconceptions out there.
You know, and I want to talk about growing into who you want to be.
That's the first thing.
I want you to think about who you want to be in the future.
You know, if you have a pen and paper, I'm going to go ahead and tell you that what I
want you to do is I want you to pause me as much as possible.
And so I ask you a question as we're going through this.
I want you to hit pause.
I want you to think about it.
I want you to take a pen and paper.
I want you to journal through it and start going, you know what?
That's a great question.
Maybe I need to figure out what I want in my life.
Maybe I need to figure out what qualities and traits and habits that I want myself to have in 10 years, in five years, in 20 years.
Because I want to talk about how you can grow into the person that you want to be.
Right?
So right now, you are not the person that you want to be most likely.
That's why you're listening to this.
And that's okay.
If you're the type of person like me or like most people who follow the show, the show, you're not probably ever going to be the person that you want to be because you always
want to get a little bit better and a little bit more love, a little bit more peace, a little bit
more happiness, a little bit more joy, a little bit more money, a little bit more success, whatever
it is that you want a little bit more of. You're going to constantly be pushing and that's okay.
There's nothing wrong with that. But I want you to take notes on who you need to be, the qualities that you need
to have for the success or the joy or the love or the happiness that you plan to have and want to
have in your future. So think about that for a second, because here's what I want to say.
There's where you are right now, and there's where you want to be in the
future. And you've heard me talk about getting into your car and setting a GPS, right? I live
in Austin, Texas. So if I'm in Austin and I want to get to Houston, Texas, I'm going to put into
my phone Houston, Texas, and it's going to take me to Houston, right? It knows where you are. GPS
knows where you are and where you want to be. And then it makes a
route of exactly how you're going to get there. Right? Simple. We've all done this before. We
get it. Makes sense. Cool. So you have to think about where you are right now and then think
about where you want to be. Who do you want to be five years from now, three years from now,
10 years from now? Who do you want to be? Not what
type of life do you want yet? We'll talk about that. Not what type of life do you want, but who
do you want to be? Because here's what most people think. Most people think this is the life that I
want. This is the money that I want. This is the cars and the clothes and the success and the
people that I want to be around or people I want to travel to. And they want to
check off the boxes, right? And they think about what do I need to do in order to get the life
that I want? What do I need to do in order to get the life that I want? But I'm here to tell you
that that's actually not what you should be focusing on. You shouldn't be focused on what
you need to do to get the life that you want. You should be focusing on who you need to become in order to get the life that you want.
Let me say that again.
Don't focus on what you need to do to get the life that you want.
Focus on who you need to become to get the life that you want.
So if you say, okay, here I am, this is where I am right now in this very second of me listening
to this podcast.
10 years from now, I want to be here. And you could say these are the, you know, it's okay.
You could say this is the house I want, the joy I want, the success I want, the clothes I want,
the people that I want in my life, the person I want to marry, all of the things, the riches,
the materialistic things, but also the immaterialistic things as well. You can make a
massive list. And then when you look at that list, you say, who do I need to become in order to get this life? Because you're
not going to be able, who you are now is not enough to be able to get the life that you want.
So what I'm here to do is to say, where do you want to be in five years or 10 years or a year,
whatever it is, however far ahead you want to think, what do you, what do you want? Let's just use 10 years as the example.
Where do you want to be in 10 years? And you look at all the things that you want in the life that
you want and the success and the happiness and the joy and love everything, the peace that you want.
And then you say, who do I need to become in order to get this in 10 years. And then all you do is this. You figure out all of the qualities,
all of the traits that you need to have to create the life that you want.
And then you fake it until you make it.
Right now, this is what I was talking about at the beginning of the bad connotation. People are
like, oh, well, don't wake up and just fake it. Don't fake it.
Don't fake it.
I'm telling you that until you are the person that you want to be, what I want you to do is I want you to fake it and act as if until you are that person.
Because if you do, slowly but surely, you're going to start to become that person.
You do things throughout the day that the perfect you would do.
Let me say that again. You start doing
things throughout the day that the perfect version of you would do. You ask yourself questions like,
would the perfect version of me do this? If you sleep in and you wake up in the morning and you
slept an hour past your alarm clock, you ask yourself, would the perfect version of me 10
years from now in
the future have done this? Probably not. All right, then I should probably stop doing this.
If you show up late, you ask yourself, would the perfect me do this? Or would the perfect me
show up on time? Would the perfect me actually show up 15 minutes early before everybody else?
Right? If you procrastinate, ask yourself, would the perfect
me do that? Would the perfect me procrastinate or would the perfect me go, you know what?
No, I'm not going to procrastinate. I need to be getting things done when they need to be done.
I need to take action. I need to work hard and I need to create the life that I want.
If you skip the gym, ask yourself, would the perfect me skip the gym or would the perfect me go to the gym five times a week, six times a week, whatever it is. If you lose the gym, ask yourself, would the perfect me skip the gym or would the perfect
me go to the gym five times a week, six times a week, whatever it is.
If you lose your temper, ask yourself, would the perfect me lose my temper or what does
the perfect me look like?
And this is what you have to do.
This is why you have to think of, okay, what's the future I want?
Number one.
Number two, who do I need to be in order to have that perfect future?
And then number three, you just start acting like that person every single day.
And if you do it every single day, one day you're going to wake up and guess what?
You're going to realize you are that person because you've been practicing and trying
to become and trying to become and trying to become that person.
So you'll stop sleeping in.
You'll stop showing up late.
You'll stop procrastinating.
You'll stop skipping the gym.
You'll stop losing your temperature. Temperature. You'll start losing up late. You'll stop procrastinating. You'll stop skipping the gym. You'll stop losing your temperature.
Temperature.
Start losing your temper, right?
And you make adjustments every single day.
Just little teeny tiny tweaks multiple times a day.
See, the perfect you, the perfect version of you in the future has the life that you want.
They act a certain way.
They dress a certain way.
They carry themselves in a certain way. They dress a certain way. They carry themselves in a certain way. They
hold themselves in a certain standard, a higher standard than you do right now. They push
themselves more. They work out more often. They make smarter decisions. They're healthier. They
diet more. They talk to people the right way. They surround themselves with the right people.
See, that's what the perfect version of you does. So now what you do is you
look at the version of you right now and you say, what changes do I need to make? So what you have
to do is you start having to act like them as soon as possible. If I want to be the perfect
version of myself 10 years from now, I say, what does a perfect Rob look like in 10 years? And I
need to get rid of the habits that you can no longer have in order to be that person.
The perfect version of Rob 10 years from now doesn't sleep in.
The perfect version of Rob doesn't procrastinate.
The perfect version of Rob doesn't skip the gym.
He doesn't lose his temper.
He doesn't wake up late.
He doesn't show up late.
Right.
And you need to find out who you need to become.
Because once again, the secret is this,
I'm giving you the secret. Most people focus on what they need to do in order to get the life
that they want. But where they miss the boat is that you need to focus on who you need to become
in order to get the life that you want. Because it's the life that you want. You have to become that person that has the life that you
want. You have to wake up each day and look at those qualities and look at those traits and act
as if. You don't have to look at other people and say, oh, I want to be like that person and get
jealous. What you have to say is I just want to be my perfect version of me, right? Because nobody else has had the same path as you. Nobody else has had the same life as you.
Nobody else has had the same opportunities or struggles or challenges that you have.
So why would you possibly compare yourself to other people? The only person that I want to
compare myself to is who I was yesterday and who I want to be in 10 years. Right? If I can see
who I want to be in 10 years and I can If I can see who I want to be in 10 years,
and I can see who I was yesterday,
and I can see that today I'm better than I was yesterday,
and today I'm closer to the perfect version of myself in 10 years than I was yesterday,
then I'm making steps in the right direction.
That's the most important thing.
So here's what I want you to do.
Grab a pen and paper real quick if you don't already have one.
Don't worry. You can put me on pause. I'll be here if you push play. I'll actually stay here as long
as you need me to. All you have to do, push that pause button. And when you come back, I'll still
be here. Grab a pen and paper and ask yourself these questions right now. Where do I want to be
in 10 years or five years or three years? It's completely up to you. Where do I want to be in 10 years or five years or three years? It's completely up to you. Where do I want to be in X amount of years? First question, write that down. I'm waiting. Go ahead,
write it down. I'm going to be here as long as you need me to, if you need to go get a pen and
paper, right? Who do I need to be in 10 years? You know, I'm sorry. What life do I want to have
in 10 years? The qualities and the traits and the materialistic things in life and love and the people and the children and the travel and all those things.
What do I want in 10 years?
The next question you ask yourself is who do I need to become in order to have that life?
Who do I need to become in order to have that life?
become in order to have that life? And then the third question you ask yourself is what do I need to do every day to become more like that person?
Because if you just focus on who you need to become and the qualities and the traits and the
things that you need to do, and you focus on that every single day, you will 100%. If that's your
number one focus, you will wake up one day, 10 years from
now and go, holy crap, that dude that was always yelling at the podcast and was so passionate and
always screaming was right. That Rob Dial, that mindset mentor guy, he was right because all I did
was start thinking about what I wanted and then start thinking about who I needed to become
and start thinking about how I could become that person every single day. And I just started acting like that person. I started
waking up at the same time as that person. I started eating the same food that person would
eat. I started dressing the same way as a person. I started treating others. I started talking to
myself the same way that that person would talk to themselves. And what happened? You woke up one
day and you are the person that you've always wanted to be. But not only are you that person, you also have the life that you have always wanted.
So that's what I got for you for today's episode.
