The Mismatch - Knicks Drop Game 3 at the Garden, Wemby at Gramercy Park, and Game 4 Predictions

Episode Date: June 9, 2026

Verno and Jacoby react to the Spurs holding off the Knicks in Game 3 of the NBA Finals as Victor Wembanyama bounces back after missing a game-winning shot at the end of Game 2 to help give the Spurs t...heir first win of the series. The guys discuss what went wrong for the Knicks, how the referees influenced the game, Wemby’s push on Jalen Brunson, as well as the big and small picture for the Knicks for the rest of the series. Also, they debate whether the Knicks were relying on Brunson too much, Jacoby’s dislike for Wemby, and whether Game 4 will determine the eventual winner of the series. Starting point is 00:00:17 Welcome to the mismatchup, Chris Varnan, and joining me as he does every week for the Rigger.com. It's Dave Jacoby. Jacoby. You know what? I always say I'm a basketball fan before I'm a Knicks fan, and we got a series, and that was a great game. You know, that's what we won. Like, after the Western Conference finals, like, we didn't have games like that. We didn't have games like game two.
Starting point is 00:00:39 Like, this is a good game. This is not what I expected to hear from you. What did you expect? I expected anger and dismay. I expected the guy that ended our last podcast screaming Knicks in 4 to be upset with what just took place in that game. What was that in the fourth quarter for the Knicks until the game was all but done? And then they hit a couple of shots at the end of that game to make it close. but it's a one-point game going into the fourth.
Starting point is 00:01:20 And the first seven minutes of the fourth, they just cannot get a bucket to save their lives. And the offense that we got used to, I mean, it just looked so unfamiliar from the team that won the 13 games in a row, because we've gotten so used to this team being devastating, and especially in those nip-tuck games being devastating, being the one that's able to execute it.
Starting point is 00:01:51 And I'll say this, we'd be remissed we didn't mention. They didn't execute in game two either. They came up with some big plays at the very end of the game and obviously some huge mistakes by San Antonio at the end of that game. But they shelled up in game two in the fourth quarter until they made a couple of big plays at the end. that was not what I expected to see. This episode of The Mismatch is presented to you by WeatherTech.
Starting point is 00:02:22 Let's face it, buying for Dad is always a bit of a guessing game. He's not dropping hints and quote unquote, I don't need anything is what he always says. It's not helpful. But there is something he'll actually use and that is WeatherTech. Get him a gift card or if you know what he needs, a cargo liner, floor liner, sea protectors or the cup foam. It's premium protection built to last, and it beats another tie or coffee mug.
Starting point is 00:02:52 This Father's Day, take an easy win. Visit weathertech.com to secure your gift today. You and I were texting. That's a one point game. And it's like, bro, you're in the garden. You got Jalen Brunson. This is close game time. And it was the spurs that were executed.
Starting point is 00:03:12 It was the spurs that were flying around defensively, and it was the spurs making the huge shots. There was, it was like some of, you know, the Knicks have been playing, like we've said, like it's like every Nick is playing their best. And this was sort of the other side of that in the third and fourth quarter, because there were some possessions,
Starting point is 00:03:33 but it was just Jalen drilling the ball until those four seconds left on the clock and taking a bad shot or giving somebody a grenade. There were some possessions where it wasn't jailing. It was just kind of like them kind of looking around and waiting for somebody to do something, you know? And there wasn't a lot of towns. They weren't attacking closeouts.
Starting point is 00:03:52 It didn't feel as sharp as it has in the past 13 games. And you know, tip your hat to the Spurs. They played really well. They played good defense. They made some huge plays down the stretch. But like, man, that Castle 3, that was such a terrible possession. The gardens rock.
Starting point is 00:04:11 and Wemby just dribbles for 22 seconds. Doesn't even, like, go anywhere. It was like they're playing, like, pre-vent offense. He didn't even, like, try to go forward. He just sat there dribbled like it was like a dribbling drill. And then... Throws it over to Castle. Throws it to Castle.
Starting point is 00:04:27 It's like, what are you doing? I guess I'll shoot it. And it just goes right in. That was just a dagger, man. And that Fox, that Fox jumper, like Fox is like one for eight from three. What is he? Four for 18 from the field, I think. And then that jumper, man, God.
Starting point is 00:04:43 Well, and you got to look, on that other side, you got to think about those guys. And those are three of the guys that you know through the first two games of this series. If there were any guys that were going to have nightmares over what has taken place thus far in this series, it would be Fox who makes the shot that he missed early in the series, you know, time after time and missed a nine-foot. runner is Wembe who threw the ball off the back of Castle. And for those guys, you know, they were saying all the right things, but you don't know if it's pomp and circumstance or if they're like, they really believe it where they're talking about, like, we watched the tape, we talked to Popovich, you know, those were winnable games.
Starting point is 00:05:32 We made mistakes. We can't make those mistakes if we want to win. but they had like this level of confidence that they were extolling. And and then they played like, I mean, they came out. That first quarter, they came out. Wemby's cracking, Castle's cracking. He's put, he's mushing Brunson in the back of the head. And it's like, yo, these guys are here for a fight, huh?
Starting point is 00:05:59 Like in the garden, there's a hundred million celebrities there. The place is on absolute fire. They're cheering F.U. Wemby. And those guys were in between Castle, Wembe, and Harper. Because I think that's the ones that you wondered who, you know, how are they going to respond in this kind of environment with these kind of stakes? They were, they were awesome. They really were to start the game. It's crazy.
Starting point is 00:06:24 It's just so odd this Wembe thing. It's like you're seven foot six. Like the way he played in that first stint when he was out there for like that seven minutes. He's just rim running and dunking. And he's not, he's not taking any mids. He's not taking any threes. He is just dunking around the basket. And like, I just don't, I don't understand why they go away from that.
Starting point is 00:06:44 I think fatigue is a factor there. But like, I do not understand why he, he, very clearly, they were like, we're going to get Wemby touches and we're going to get him going downhill towards the basket. And but that only lasted for the first quarter. Yeah. And we think about the way this played out. So Wemby. and Castle are, they're doing their thing.
Starting point is 00:07:08 The Spurs come out shooting fireballs. They're 10 of 13 to start the game. They're three of four from three. Everything's going their way. All the while, in the first like eight minutes of the first quarter, I think towns touched the ball one time. I've just listened to and obviously we watched the game take place over the weekend. And then I've listened to everybody's podcast.
Starting point is 00:07:34 and it's like, look, if a serious stop right now, Towns is the MVP, Towns has been the guy, Townsend, and I'm like, you come out in game three in your home crowd, they don't have a natural matchup for him. And it's just Jalen Brunson dribbling the ball into the ground. And Carl Towns in the first eight minutes touched the ball, I think twice. The second time he touched it, he scored on the baseline on Cornette. That was it. And I'm like, what are they doing?
Starting point is 00:08:04 And meanwhile, Bridges gets 2,03 minutes. So he's just out of the mix. And he's just completely out of the game offensively for the rest of the game. And it also like sham it was crap. And sham it has been great for them. But sham it was absolute crap for them tonight. I mean, I think he ended up. I mean, he's a minus 20.
Starting point is 00:08:26 A minus 20. In a, in a, in a, what ended up being like a four point game, right? A point game. Not that you want to always take, you know, individual games. game plus minus one for eight from the field and one for seven from three. And that fun, when he gets past Wemby on that corner closeout, it's like,
Starting point is 00:08:41 you know he's going to be there. Like, you've studied the film. So you can't just go like a finger roll it. He's following you. He's done this for years. So it's like the Knicks or the Knicks are discombobulated. Bridges is in foul trouble.
Starting point is 00:08:56 Towns ain't touch of the ball. Brunson's dribbling the ball into the ground. I mean, Hard and OG were hitting shots though, especially that second quarter. No. They were hitting shots. The second quarter comes, and this is what I marked out,
Starting point is 00:09:09 that thing got sparked by Alvarado. Alvarado had two great ones in his minutes. And then there was a sequence where Clarkson comes in, hits the three from the corner, then Kat bully balls one in, then Kat gets a tip-away steal, and then OG pulls up for three. And, I mean, that place was, I was like, oh, buddy.
Starting point is 00:09:32 They just flip. They flip this game and now this crowd is on top of them. And all of a sudden you start seeing some slump shoulders and it's like, I thought it was over. I thought it was over. I thought it was over. They started slow in every single game. This person had like a double-distance lead like in like the first quarter of pretty much every game. That's a crazy thing, Jacoby, is because the second quarter Knicks never showed up in the second half.
Starting point is 00:10:00 No. 42 to 24 quarter. Like we see that. And it's like a tsunami. It's devastating. And they're getting stops. They're flying up and down the court. The ball's moving side to side.
Starting point is 00:10:13 They're popping it around. OG was hitting shots. Hart was hitting shots. Brunson came back in in the second quarter and finally got going in the second quarter. But, I mean, they were devastated. They were great. And then second half came out. like they're up seven and that lead was gone in two seconds.
Starting point is 00:10:34 It was, they had the lead like halfway through the third quarter, but they didn't have any rhythm. It felt like all of the players that were playing well, OG and Hart, just weren't performing. There's, you know, listen, like a lot of, all my group chats are just talking about the refs, right?
Starting point is 00:10:51 I don't want to do too much of that. You know what I mean? I thought there was some really goofy calls, but like, this wasn't like a ref thing. You know what I mean? Like, it's all my group chats. are just talking about the refs, the refs, the refs, and Adam Silver and all this stuff. I think this.
Starting point is 00:11:04 I think, I do not think that it was one-sided on purpose. You know, I've talked to you about this many times. As soon as I saw Mark Davis and John Goebel, look at the time of this game. It was two hours and 46 minutes. It's a three-hour frigging basketball game. It was challenge timeout. Challenge time out. Challenge.
Starting point is 00:11:26 There's no, the problem with the refs, forget. who got the majority of the calls or not, because a fan's always going to see that one way. It was destroying the flow of this game. There was no flow. And I do think that that did hurt the cause, especially when you're trying to come back. It was just like every time you got any kind of up and down action.
Starting point is 00:11:52 And P.S., this is how you know they were crap. Not only did we go to the challenge board under the, hood a thousand times and have to go to another commercial break, nobody ever lost a challenge. No. And they all used all of them. They were all right. When they're all, when all, when all the challenges are right,
Starting point is 00:12:14 we got a problem on our eighth. And it was so funny because even at the end of the game, didn't end up hurting them because Brunson got the shot. But towns got mauled underneath the basket. Killed. And they didn't have a challenge. There's a baseline referee right there. What are you watching?
Starting point is 00:12:33 It is inconsistent. I thought the Knicks got a bad whistle, but it's not why they lost the game. I just felt like they had no offensive rhythm. And I thought the Spurs, the Spurs did a lot to them to do that. I thought they played good defense. And here's a, yeah, but I'm going to defend your friends on a little,
Starting point is 00:12:50 on a little thing. The fact that you're playing the last nine minutes, I can't remember. I don't have the number in front of me. It's like the last nine minutes of the third quarter. I mean, they're in the bonus. In the bonus, yeah. I mean, it's just, look, the last thing you want to do against a team with Victor Wenbanyama on it
Starting point is 00:13:09 is have to play a bunch of deadball basketball, right? This is what I talked to you about throughout that Oklahoma City series over and over again. Tell me the turnover number. I will tell you the outcome, or at least whether or not that's a competitive. game because what you can't do is if you're turning if you're having a bunch of live ball turnovers now your defense doesn't get to set up but scoring on that spurs defense in the half court is not something you can count hard no you can't count on that you're not going to be able to count on that he turns these teams totally one dimensional I mean it makes so hard to move
Starting point is 00:13:50 the ball side to side you you're basically taking away anything within seven feet of the basket right, unless you're shooting these little floaters or something over him. That's why they're taking what they take. They miss their first 10 threes. The reason they're taking threes is because they're not going to the rim on this guy, right? And it's like that that's where I will say the reps have a profound impact. Because if you're going to put them in the bonus that early, now we're going to be playing any enormous amount of deadball basketball.
Starting point is 00:14:23 And that is just not in the next favor. Especially when you're at home and you want. want the crowd to be involved. Right, right. It was, it's just like, and, you know, there was no, like, runs. No. Like, there weren't even, like, the only timeouts were for stupid challenges. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:36 Like, think about it. There wasn't a lot of just like, oh, it's, I think the, you know, the Knicks one would run the second quarter, the Spurs one would run the first quarter. But there was, after that, I don't think there was, like, 10-0 runs or eight-oh runs or really anything like that. The, you know, the Spurs only had five fast break points? Wow. Crazy?
Starting point is 00:14:51 Yeah. Five. It was, I was shocked by that. Shocked. And points in the paint, 44 to 46. Second chance points, 10 for the spurs, 21 for the Knicks. A lot of putbacks.
Starting point is 00:15:05 Mitch had a couple of putbacks. Towns had a couple putbacks. It's just a weird, weird, weird game. Can we talk about Wembe pushing Brunson? I wanted to get on a city bike and ride over to the guard and punch him in the fucking face. I'm so mad about that. I don't understand.
Starting point is 00:15:22 The same thing with Nas Reid. I don't understand why the teammates don't do anything about it. It's a dirty play. That's a dirty play. It's a very dirty play. It wasn't that bad. What are you talking about? It wasn't that bad.
Starting point is 00:15:37 What are you talking about? He got to mush him in the back of the head. He mushed him in the back of the head. He mushed him in the back of the head. For no reason. He's got an enormous head. But why? Huh?
Starting point is 00:15:48 And why did he elbow now is read? But why is he doing this? Sending it in a message, bro. It's a Showland. What message did he send? That I'm a Showlin warrior. It's not a Showland warrior. He is a Shal.
Starting point is 00:15:58 Just put, I want to put a hook Portian and just punch him in the face. Seriously. Put Huck Porty and punch him in the face. And like the, you know, remember in the last series when he's doing the like whispering to Bismack Bianbo and whispering to Plumley, that pissed me off. The Carter Bryant running into Shea and then who did it tonight? Was it a castle?
Starting point is 00:16:19 Did it to Brunson? Oh, he trucked Brunson. Brunson's just like, I don't know, trying to get in front of him, box out or whatever. Like those are flagrant fouls. Why? They're trying to, look, they're trying to play with physicality. They're trying to send a message. I don't, they're not exactly the bad boy pistons or something.
Starting point is 00:16:35 No. I really don't know how they missed the Wembe, mushen Brunson in the back of the head. With the size of Wembe and the size of Brunson's head, it's implausible that you couldn't see that. Seriously. You know what I mean? You have a nine foot guy.
Starting point is 00:16:53 The guy's the tallest guy in the league. I was so angry. That was the one time I had to like, I was like, just relaxed, Jacob. But that was in the first court. I will say this. I did think when that happened and there's a couple of those, like early with Brunton,
Starting point is 00:17:13 I thought it threw him and the Knicks off in the sense that he just, I mean, it was like Brunton versus the Spurs then for like the next five minutes. You know what I mean? I think you- But they didn't run in the second quarter. Yeah, without him. I thought that, I thought the Josh Hart thing was. That was Alvarado, bro. I thought that Josh Hart thing was silly too.
Starting point is 00:17:38 Like, Cornett was just going for the ball. You know what I mean? It's just like, it's like, I'm taking the ball. You scored. Cornet was so confused. Cornett was just taking him out of the ball. Yeah. Cornett's like, he's like, I'm one with the nuns.
Starting point is 00:17:51 I'm not trying to knock you over. And then Josh tried to kick him and then push him. And like, it was so weird. He was so confused as to why somebody was mad at him. I was too, kind of. I kind of was too. I was like, the guy's just, if you're like on the ground, he's going to try to get the ball in as soon as he can to get the advantage while you're getting up off the ground.
Starting point is 00:18:13 Like, that's not crazy. That's just normal basketball. You're standing right there. This is certainly, look, when we talk about the guys that needed to step up, Castle and Wimbunyama were enormous. I honestly after watching game two was thinking like, hey man, I know everybody's kind of talking about how Harper needs to be getting more minutes. Harper needs to be more involved. Harper couldn't make shots tonight, but got it.
Starting point is 00:18:41 No, he started hot. But big rebounds. Yeah. Big rebounds. And, but I was thinking, hey, man, it's not going to be Harper and less Fox. It's going to be Harper and less Castle. and Castle made sure that that was not the case because, I mean, he was indispensable from literally the first quarter tonight.
Starting point is 00:19:02 He was great. Great. And he's tough as nails. I loved his game. I absolutely loved his game. Do you know what happened to me Friday night? I flew back from San Antonio, right? First of all, my flight got delayed because I was going to land at 645,
Starting point is 00:19:16 which is a perfect time to get from JFK to my house to watch the game, right? Flight gets delayed two hours. Why do you fly to JFK? it's just like most it's just a busier airport you know what I mean oh it is yeah yeah it's just like more flights go there like LaGuardia's a little smaller it's just like LaGuardia is much closer but anyway all right yeah yeah we can we can do airport talk later but um I just say that because you like literally like right down the street right there yeah yeah it's great it takes 15 minutes sometimes but then I so I have to watch the game on the plane and then watch the game in the cab and it's just like I was so happy after they won, like that Friday night.
Starting point is 00:19:56 And then I woke up on Saturday and I was like, terrified. I was terrified. I was like, it would be so Nix. It would just be so Nix to win two on the road and like end up in a game seven in San Antonio. It's just the most Nix shit for that to happen. And the celebration of going up to O quickly, very quickly turned into fear and terror of bad things happening because bad things always happened to the Knicks. Oh, buddy. Well, then this is not going to be a good night's sleep.
Starting point is 00:20:30 No. And the thing is, like, there's, if you're the Spurs after game two, you can be like, we've had leads. We've played well. Some weird things happened at the end. We can build on this. I don't feel that way right now about the Knicks after what I just watched for three hours. Literally three hours. Just came to forever.
Starting point is 00:20:51 Forever. No. I mean, there's, there's still. so disjointed. It was so disjointed. Look, they'll be able to make adjustments. They'll be able to hopefully have a better effort in front of it. This episode is brought to you by L'Oreal Group. Beauty is a powerful force that moves us. I just, the thing that I would be nervous about is that's two straight fourth quarters where they're just absolute crap. Because what they score in the last
Starting point is 00:21:57 fourth quarter, 20 points, maybe? They probably had, maybe they got to 20. Maybe they scored in this one. No, in the fourth quarter. This was 20. I think they scored 21. No, they scored 20. Yeah, 20 to 23 in the fourth quarter.
Starting point is 00:22:14 Yeah, I think they scored 21 in game two. I mean, especially after what we had seen, you know, earlier in the game, It's just like they have not looked like themselves in two straight fourth quarters. And I do wonder, all right, I'm going to make a statement. You tell me, do you agree? I disagree. Do, oh, you know what I said.
Starting point is 00:22:42 All right, no, you can't disagree yet. The series, unlike many in the past, this series will. be decided by the outcome of game four. That that's the game. Disagre. Why? That'd be two, two. Both teams can win on the road.
Starting point is 00:23:08 I have no feel for how this is going to go. None. Oh, I feel like if the Knicks stole both of them in New York and then they've got two of the next three on their home court. The Knicks stole both them in New York? The Spurs still both of New York.
Starting point is 00:23:24 That's what I mean. Yeah. Yeah. So role players play better at home, right? Yep. Where's Landry Shammett? Where's Deuce? Oh, God.
Starting point is 00:23:36 Like, where's the bench? I mean, Alvarado and Clarkson. How about the Clarkson sighting? Clarkson. I know. No. And the one Napalm 3 was crazy at the end of the shot clock. That was.
Starting point is 00:23:52 He has his celebrations ready. like he's like he's figuring he's going to make these shots. They were like the, wasn't that the first points he's had so far in the series? I think he had not scored. He had not scored in game one or two. Really? I don't know if he'd play.
Starting point is 00:24:08 He can do that though. Do you what really killed me is that Castle 3, man? Like everyone's everyone's on their feet. And Wembe's just like, they're just going to prevent offense. Like, rewatch that possession. Like he's not attacking. He's not looking to pass to somebody.
Starting point is 00:24:25 He's literally just like dribbling out the shot clock. And then he wants to shoot a three, but Towns is up on him. He just kind of is like, here, Steph Castle. Steph Castle just yucks the thing. My son says yeats it right at the rim. It goes right in, right in. How about this? Just as a basketball fan,
Starting point is 00:24:43 you have to see the irony in that all of San Antonio has been having nightmares about a play where Victor Wembe Nama tried to throw the ball to Stefan Castle and threw a game away. And, you know, that's how it feels. And, and obviously it was shot. And the irony of Victor Wemianama throwing the ball to Steph Castle for a grenade that he nails. Like, oh, yeah. It's unbelievable, right?
Starting point is 00:25:12 It's a literally the nightmare crew. Like, you know what I mean? Like, immediately you get to forget that, right? if you are, if you're a San Antonio fan, I know you may go back in time and remember that, but that play was so enormous and that dagger. And you know what? And we're calling that the dagger.
Starting point is 00:25:31 It was really Fox. Fox is mid-range jumper, yeah. Fox from the floor tonight wasn't great. It's four for 14. 0 for 5 from 3, but that one was big. And Towns was contesting from behind too. But one thing about that Fox that I peeped, if he misses that shot,
Starting point is 00:25:49 that's a wimby putback. or Wimby catches it and kicks it back out to eat another 14 seconds because no one was on Wemby. So you got to remember Tows is contesting from behind and he's guarding Wemby. Wemby makes a B-line to the right side of the basket. So I saw it in real time and I was like, well, even if he misses this, I was like, oh, good, he's going to miss because he's Deerrin Fox. And I was like, well, there's no chance that Wemby doesn't get that rebound to put it back or take it back out or get foul.
Starting point is 00:26:13 Right. And there's just so many plays. Like, again, as we've talked about, just the lack of execution. and the defensive prowess of San Antonio in the fourth. But, like, outside of, I mean, you had that Brunson pullup three at the end. You had the OG crazy three from the corner. Yeah, that was insane. I mean, I know what I mean.
Starting point is 00:26:32 OJ block was huge on Harper. But those are not like, but those are not like high percentage shots that were made. Otherwise, they might have scored frigging 12 or 14 points in the fourth quarter of a finals game. Crazy. It's just weird turnovers to just like kicking the ball out of bounds. and just like, it's just like weird, weird turnovers. It was it, it's not, you expect that team to play better at home. I really did.
Starting point is 00:26:59 I expected them to play better at home. Especially you can speak to me. What was it like today in the city leading up to this? Because look, there was so much talk about the surroundings of this. And how hard it was going to be to get into the game and even get in the perimeter. Shams Charania dropped his air buds. So secrets like, like, you know, kidnapped him and put him in the back of a band. It's like, what is it?
Starting point is 00:27:20 going on. What I'm talking about? And this part of the city that they've shut down, if you're not familiar, it's like in the middle of Midtown. It's like Penn Station is there. It's like where all the trains come in. Like, and they put these like barricades up. It's just weird.
Starting point is 00:27:36 It's just weird. And you know what? I was so terrified that we would be doing this show right now and end up talking about the president. I'm just so happy there was like, not a thing. It was just not a thing. If you talk about basketball. He fell asleep during the challenges.
Starting point is 00:27:54 You see those clips online? He was like, oh, yeah, there's clips of him falling his sleep. There were so many of them. And they were silly, too. Some of them were just, like, unnecessary. It's like, oh, so when Bush is Brunson, we're not going to look at it? Bro, it's a Mark Davis and John Goebel game. It's like, these guys, look, I've been going to games for 25 years.
Starting point is 00:28:20 I, if you, if they showed up at the regular season game, I'd be like, oh, shit. Like, I mean, how about the whole catastrophe in front of the spur sideline? What was that? The ball's been imbounded. Feeling Hartford ran on the floor. Yeah. Just shoved himself in. And they're like, I mean, everybody just, I know.
Starting point is 00:28:42 It was weird. It was a really goofy game. That does not happen in like Zach Zorba games. That doesn't happen. Yes. Even if you don't like Scott Foster, it doesn't happen in Scott Foss. We've seen this move. You send someone to the table
Starting point is 00:28:52 so the guy in the second row can look at the replay and then you decide whether or not to challenge. We've seen it a million times. Like, just let them do that. I'm a Knicks fan. I'm like, just let them have the second to look at it. I think it was off.
Starting point is 00:29:04 I think it was off the Spurs anyway. Right. And there's that one. There was the Brunson. He got a flakry on that, that closeout one. That like landing space name. Oh, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:16 But I thought it was champagne, I want to say. I thought he kicked his foot four. forward into Brunson's Achilles. Well, look, while we're doing this, and again, I do not think that's the reason. I think the Knicks lost because their offensive execution was horrible. Yes, and it was bad with Brunson. It was bad without Brunson. The whole second half was just bad.
Starting point is 00:29:35 Just to speak of how shitty these guys truly were, it's a seven-point game that's about to be an 11-point game. Right. Until they overturned Keldon Johnson, pushing Mitch into big company. Like, what are you watching? But that's the second challenge. That's the second Nick's challenge.
Starting point is 00:29:56 I know. I know. Which means they can't challenge anymore. So then Kat gets fouled in a huge possession. And all you can do is complain about. And that was a seven point game that's about to be an 11 point game. That's a huge call. If they don't challenge it.
Starting point is 00:30:11 And they went down and got a bucket. I think Brunson hit like a mid-range right after that. So it was a six-point turnaround. I thought this was like this really felt like a 12 points per person. went, didn't it? It did. Like, there was a couple of goopy threes at the end where you're just kind of like, ah, anything like, you know, he did get down to two and Castle went to the line.
Starting point is 00:30:30 That was, those are, those are nervey free throws. You hit him, man, on the road. I think they said going into it, he was 8, 81%. How about Fox throwing that ball right back to him after the inbound? And I was like, whoa, now. He killed some time. I know, you got to make sure he's looking. He never got it.
Starting point is 00:30:50 But also, is that who you want? Is that, and in the end, yes, the answer is yes. I mean, that's one of those that would have been criticized. If Castle goes there, they're like, bro, don't put him on the line of Madison Square Garden to go ice again. You know what I mean? Like, I know he's got, you know, I know he's got nerves of steel, it seems, but those are still just nervy free throws. He buried both of them. That was big tough.
Starting point is 00:31:18 Ben Brunson hasn't really played great in games one, two, or three, to be honest with there. No, he had a lot of points, but I mean, look, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, it just got so runcentric in that, they were at their best in that whole portion of the second quarter where the ball, they were flying up and down the court. The ball was flying around. I just felt like it just got so Brunson-centric in that first quarter. And then even then in the second half, I text you and I'm like, man, I don't know if him getting this fourth foul is the worst thing because they're falling back into it again in the third quarter. I'm like, bro, this can't be a one pass maximum.
Starting point is 00:32:03 But then they start doing this thing where there's kind of like they're cutting around the outside, but heart gets it, but he's not being aggressive. So they gives it to bridges, but bridges are feeling it. And, you know, and the town's got wind being for him. So it's like they move the ball and then there's four seconds left for the shot clock. It's just like, what did you guys accomplish in the last 20 seconds? Right. What did you accomplish?
Starting point is 00:32:21 And I do. And look, going back to the way this thing was officiated, how long this game took, I do think that game, the game that is going up and down the court is that is absolutely in the next favor. And this game was absolutely incapable of it having that kind of a flow. Like it just, this was going to be. we run a play, you run a play. And that is what game two devolved into in the fourth quarter as well, many times in the
Starting point is 00:32:56 fourth quarters, you're going to, like, that's what the game is going to end up becoming. But it felt like the whole second half, it became that. They were not able to play free motion basketball in the third quarter either. I mean, the Spurs spent the whole third quarter at the free throw line felt like. I'm terrified. I, it's like, you know, Spurs win, Wemby's great. I didn't think Wemby was great. I thought Wembe was great in his first shift.
Starting point is 00:33:24 But like, he caught an Alleyoop from Fox to get to 30 points. He's pretty great, dude. But like, no, I'm saying he can be a lot better. Like, I just don't understand why he's not just constantly catching Alley Ups, constantly getting the ball deep into the in position, just like, what he did in those first seven minutes, I was like, oh, there's nothing you can do about that. And remember in the Thunder series of the same thing. I think he gets tired.
Starting point is 00:33:46 I was watching the run back on defense a lot. And he's just slow, slow footed. And guys get past him really easily on the perimeter. Like, OG went past him three times and just dunked. I'm going to bet, and to your point, he played 38 minutes tonight. Do you think he averaged 30 during the year? I do not know for the fan. No, because he had a minute's restriction for so long.
Starting point is 00:34:12 Let's see. That's the thing. Let me get to post you later here. Regular season. He averaged. I guess it's 26. 29. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:23 29 minutes a game. Yeah. I mean, there's an extra day arrest with the travel day. And he's playing 38 or 40. And they're working them. And it, well,
Starting point is 00:34:32 Andy just played a seven game series. Mm-hmm. You know, right before this one. Yeah. And they're working them. Like even, you know, I've been, I've been like,
Starting point is 00:34:41 you know, as a defensive player of the year, I've been pretty surprised at sort of like how easily Knicks get around him on closeouts. But outside of those like OG finishes, you know, because he turns around and runs and they rebounds. Like he gets worked, you know? Like Brunson kind of hangs out on defense, to be honest. You know, he's just kind of like, who do I cover? Like, all right. He's not like working as hard as Wemby's working on both sides of the floor.
Starting point is 00:35:04 I think he gets tired. I think that's why he stops going to the rim. The rim, going to the rim like he did in the first quarter just takes effort and hard work. he did have 32, 8, and 6 assists. And it says this is the second youngest player in NBA finals history to have 35 and 5. Magic Johnson being the first. Magic Johnson, yeah. I don't know, man.
Starting point is 00:35:28 I just feel like I think Spurs. Spurs is like the better team tonight. They really did. They looked like the better team. You know, we fell for this during that Oklahoma City thing where, but the different in this one is these games have all been hotly contested. You know, the Spurs were up 14, I think, in game one, ended up losing the game by tan.
Starting point is 00:35:51 Obviously, we know the way game two played out, which was the most insane thing ever. The final minute of that game. Imagine if you would have been at that one. You were at, you were at game one with the Brunson take over at the end. I would have been in jail. I would have been in jail. Oh, my God. I would have been in jail in San Antonio.
Starting point is 00:36:10 I'd still be there. I'd be doing this on a collect call right now. I mean, watching those, watching that, even, I had to go back and watch that one again and just like watch the way that all played out. This episode is brought to you by WeatherTech. Buying something for dad for Father's Day usually goes the same way every year,
Starting point is 00:36:32 guessing, second guessing, and ending up with something that collects dust on a shelf. Well, here's a better idea, WeatherTech. it's the kind of gift he'll actually use. WeatherTech offers unmatched vehicle protection from floor liners to seat protectors to the cup bone and cargo liner. And no, a gift card isn't a cop out. It's just practical like WeatherTech. Skip the guesswork this year.
Starting point is 00:36:59 Visit weathertech.com to get your father's day gift today. That's the thing that would concern me if, if I'm a Knicks fan is just, look, big picture, yo, you're up to one in the finals. You're up two to one with the finals with game four at home. Like, what are we talking about? Yeah, that's a great spot. That's the big picture.
Starting point is 00:37:26 The small pitcher is what the hell has gone on? We gave up a frigging, we were up 12, we gave up a 14-0 run and could not get a bucket to save our lives in game two. and scored 21 points in the frigging fourth quarter, and they storm back. And if it's not for them throwing the ball off to each other's backs, we're probably in trouble there. And I thought they had a great OG game.
Starting point is 00:37:51 He's nine for 13 from the field. I didn't even remember the four misses. Well, the other one is that, you know, this, this was, this was the heart. Like, they're leaving him open. He's burying everything. Like, that's the X factor. And the rebound.
Starting point is 00:38:07 The offensive rebounds. How many offensive rebounds does my guy have here? Let's take a look. One, but eight, nine rebounds total. Five assists. But I mean, you'd sign up for four for seven from three. Hell yeah. Especially when you hit the first two.
Starting point is 00:38:23 I know. It changes everything. I think the bridge is two early fouls were a killer too. He never got in, he never got in the game. Never. During the broadcast, they said, he took like two shots. It was just cardio. It was like the fourth quarter.
Starting point is 00:38:38 Cardiovascular fitness. He never fit into the game. He's just running up and down the court. You have to give credit to the Spurs for that because they've got defenders. I love Castle, obviously, and he makes things really hard on Brunson. And, you know, Harper can de you up. Wimby's a defensive player of the year. You know, they make it hard.
Starting point is 00:38:59 Well, but in the absence of him being able to play, that was the, that was the upsetting thing. about the Knicks bench, which has been so great and provided such an advantage for them that this is the one, especially with, I mean, you got every star in North America sitting in that crowd. The place is on absolute fire. It's the NBA finals. And that's when you guys as a group are going to throw up this colossal dud. Well, again, Clarkson was good off the bench.
Starting point is 00:39:32 Alvarado was good off the bench. That's it. Mitch didn't do much. McBride didn't do much, didn't do anything. Shammit just couldn't hit. Remember where Shamming was 11 for 13 from three in the pre in the Cavs series? This is the unfortunate regression to the mean. To the mean, yeah, a little bit of like, which could save some of those.
Starting point is 00:39:51 Maybe when you're up by 30 against the calves, you can miss a couple and make the big ones here. Because they needed him. They put them in because Bridges was in foul trouble. So you're going to, you're going to, it's like, oh, we can rely on sham it. Like, not really. Well, I think it speaks to how good because, look, the spurs. They're just not even, they're only playing really seven guys. You know, when we throw, they, they, they give corn at some minutes.
Starting point is 00:40:16 They give Bryant some minutes. But like, neither of those guys is even playing 10 minutes in the game. And so the game is being played by these seven guys. And I mean, look, we, we, we talked about Dylan Harper earlier, but Dylan Harper was five for 18 tonight in that game. He's your, he's tied as your leading shot taker. And he's five for 18. One for eight from three.
Starting point is 00:40:37 One for eight from three. And it's like, well, you really dodged a bullet. I mean, how many games is he doing that? You know? And so there's a lot. It, there was a moment where I'm watching this game besides being frustrated with the officials and how long the game was or whatever else
Starting point is 00:40:53 and watching the Knicks office where I was thinking, like, I think both of these teams are legitimately awesome. I really do. Like, because you're coming up with different things every time. that we're talking about. I'm watching that game in the first eight minutes. I'm texting you and I'm like, bro, throw the ball to Towns. Like, what is going on?
Starting point is 00:41:16 And you know. Just the lack of touches. Well, and like, you're, look, there's times where we've talked about Dylan Harper. Dylan Harper needs to play more and Dylan Harper needs to be more aggressive, you know, because Fox ain't doing it. And then it's like, oh, Towns is the guy. Towns needs to be doing it. Last game, it was, oh, my God, bridges.
Starting point is 00:41:33 The trade, nobody's going to say that trade was. stupid now. Like, it was all worth it, right? Bridges is the guy. And then Bridges turns around tonight and does nothing. Nothing. Literally. I can't.
Starting point is 00:41:46 I can't think, I can't think of something that he did on either end of the floor. I remember the two early fouls and he went to the bench and they brought in Shaman. He played 30 minutes almost, played 29 minutes. When they brought in Shaman when he was, when he had to go to the bench. God, man.
Starting point is 00:42:05 Yeah. God. It's just like, But to answer a question earlier about the city, there's just so many people with brand new Nix gear. You know what I mean? Like, it's all brand new, you know? And there's a folding,
Starting point is 00:42:21 there's a folding table on every major block selling Nix finals gear and Nix, Knicks hats, and Nicks whatever. Like, I saw this pack of girls on the subway. There's like five of them, and they all had brand new Nix gear on. And I'm saying to myself, I'm like, you can't, You can't even name a Nick. Like you cannot name a single Nick. The history of the franchise.
Starting point is 00:42:43 Wow. I'm telling you. They're like in the early 20s. They were clearly transplants. They're caught up in the fever. Nick's fever. It's fun. It's fun.
Starting point is 00:42:53 It's really fun. It's just frustrating. Like they were 0 for nine from three in the fourth quarter until they started hitting a couple at the end. Like you're not going to win games like that. And these are good looks. Here's a couple from tonight's game. Victor Wemagnama and Steph Castle are the youngest duo by average age in NBA history to score 20 plus points in an NBA finals game.
Starting point is 00:43:19 Also, by the way, when I talked about that 42 point second quarter where the Knicks got cracking, it was the most by any team in the finals since the 2021 bucks scored 43 points in a second quarter in a second quarter in game. game five against Phoenix. Because that got the garden going. And I remember Richard Jefferson's talking about, use this momentum, taking into halftime, taking into the third quarter. Well, that didn't happen. Well, they were up seven and Charles Barkley said the series was over.
Starting point is 00:43:50 Oh, don't. I don't know. He did. I didn't see that. I didn't see that. I saw him arguing about, about Wemby. Oh, he was so funny.
Starting point is 00:44:00 He called her Cardi D's. I mean, that is like, you can't. I mean, like, Like, you could put, like, the S&L writer's room in a room and they wouldn't come up with that. And he's just sitting there just doing it.
Starting point is 00:44:12 Also, the only, I would say, the only person on network television could get away with him. Yes. Is that fair? Yeah. Legs is not doing that. And he's going to get, like, strongly worded email. I just think anybody else. And Cardi wouldn't even be mad.
Starting point is 00:44:28 I also think it was funny. I also think, I don't think. I don't think, I don't think, I don't think that. No, I don't. I don't think another person could get away with it. And it is so damn funny. Bro, he said she needs to change her name to Cardi B's. He's like Cardi B's.
Starting point is 00:44:46 That's outrageous. Josh Hart had three points in games one and two and then had 16 in game three. So we can't fault him. He was there for it. Steph Castle ended up with 23, 5, and 5. But he was, I think he was seven for eight at one point. Like he just wasn't missing. He was getting to the rim.
Starting point is 00:45:11 He was hitting shots. Yeah, he was not missing. No. Oh, to start the game. Yeah, to start the game. Yeah, his first eight shots, he was seven for eight. Yes. Unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:45:19 And Harper started well too. He cooled off a lot. But he started with that. To your point, in the first half of the game, Steph Kassel had 18, two rebounds, three assists, and a steal. And was seven for nine. Yeah. Think about that.
Starting point is 00:45:36 And he and he and he was going bar for bar with O.G. O.G. had 17 in the first half. Oh, yeah. He had dunks too. He gets past Wemby and then just quickly bounces up and he doesn't cock the ball back. He leans forward with two hands and sneaks it over the rim so it can't get blocked. He's got that figured out. Towns, towns and O.G have kind of like figured out how to attack Wemby from the perimeter. Nobody else has.
Starting point is 00:46:04 everyone else has figured out how to dribble into the lane, get terrified by Wimby, and then dribble out or turn their back to the basket and just kick it out to somebody who's going to be covered for a shot. I'm going to say this. I'm so pissed. As much as... I'm mad. See, I knew it. No, I'm mad.
Starting point is 00:46:20 You started the show off by like, I'm a basketball fan more than a Knicks fan. Like, shut up. I know, because I don't... That's such horrid shit. It really is. That's what I'm supposed to say. That's what I'm supposed to say. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:46:32 To who? Now I'm just mad. Now I'm just mad. It's just like... But you love and respect Wimbayama. Shut up. I hate him. I hate him.
Starting point is 00:46:46 My long cigarette, bro. I hate him. I hate your cigarette. I hate Wimbaima. Did you see the picture of him fucking... Smoking on that. Wemeyama, smoking on that Knicks pack. I'll fly to Memphis.
Starting point is 00:47:00 Fight you. You've been too many planes recently. You ain't tried to fly again. Have you seen... Have you seen the picture of him in Gramercy Park, like painting or drawing or whatever he's doing? Oh, yeah. You guys are real tough. Hey, hey, you guys are so tough in New York.
Starting point is 00:47:17 Everybody talks big shit. And this guy's just walking around in your public parks, mushing your best player in the back of his big head. Nobody's doing nothing. First of all, that park is a shallow park. It's a private park. It's not a private park. Yes, it is. What do you think I don't know?
Starting point is 00:47:36 Yeah, it's Gramercy. park. It's like if you have to live in this area and you get a key to the park and they like, everyone, one time I went there. Yes, no, I swear to God. It's the weirdest, it's the weirdest park. And they guard this park like it's like Fort Knox so that if you go into the park and you're not like one of the residents, they'll like call this one lady on you and she comes out and yells at you and kicks you out. My son was like three years old, five, six, kicking a soccer ball. They're like, no ball playing in the park. Seriously. Hold on. Yes. So who's letting Wembe in there?
Starting point is 00:48:09 That's what I'm saying. God. He's just, hey, hey, he's gallivanting around your private parks. Mushing Brunsson in the back of the head. He said, get off me, bitch. Why does someone punch him in the face? I don't understand the same thing with the Timberwolves. It was like he just elbowed Nas Reed in the jaw.
Starting point is 00:48:33 And no one did anything. Because he's a Shalid warrior, bro. He's not a Shalind warrior. Yeah, yeah. He's not. They don't want that kung food, bro. He's not a shawing warrior. You ate him so much.
Starting point is 00:48:48 I really do. I mean, this is perfect. I'm really scared that they're going to be like, hey, Wemby, like, remember the first 10 possessions on offense? Just do that for 100 possessions. Because I don't understand why he just ends up as a jump shooter. It's like, that's what they want you to do. I mean, I think he's too comfortable. bro, like all I saw was like these people
Starting point is 00:49:13 like, Webby, don't come off in the city, we're going to Webby, don't show your face in New York, blah, blah, blah. Webby, we're going to be doing this. And this guy's like gallivanting around in your private parks. We're just drawing.
Starting point is 00:49:29 Drawing? Like, are you getting... Pencil sketches of like plants. He can't be more comfortable in your city. Unbelievable. I hate you. Unbelievable. I'm sorry to get upset.
Starting point is 00:49:41 promise you there ain't no park that joker would show josh hope in memphis please there ain't no park you're not going to be the finals and we sure is that in the final that's fair you guys have some lovely parks when i went on a jog down by the river there lovely parks and i'm also so dumb i didn't realize it was the mississippi river hey i'm just telling you this they ain't private you guys got here in memphis i just say this they ain't private and there would be a phone call within two second saying this joker's down at the park you guys have private i don't even i've never even heard of it's it's the weirdest park man it's the weirdest part you got to know somebody no you have to live like you have to live like around the park and you get given a key so it's locked so you go to the
Starting point is 00:50:31 gate and you go in and there are people that take it so seriously that they're like watching the park 24-7 so if you kick a soccer ball they come and talk to your five year old about it. God, who, sorry about the five-year-old kicking a soccer ball. Yeah, that's, but they got a nine-foot French guide. French guy, just, just doing sketches, pencil sketches. Ready to drop 302, 8, and 6 against the Knicks and ruin game three. Tough.
Starting point is 00:50:59 Oh, you're going to, you are going to be lit for game, uh, game four, aren't you? Terrified of game four. What are you going to do for it? We don't have to record a pot after. No, I've got it. I've got a, here's the problem. I've got a recl league basketball game, 7 to 8. Shut up.
Starting point is 00:51:16 So? So, you, you can miss that. No, I'm not missing that. It's 7 to 8. It's a game starts at 840. Okay. Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:24 Remember in San Antonio when I forgot that it was central time and I almost missed the first quarter of the game. Right. Yes. So, the thing is, we always go and have a couple beers after the games when they lose, you know, celebrate or commiserate. But, like, these bars are so busy and loud. and, like, you can't hear the audio
Starting point is 00:51:40 that I'm going to have to, like, sneak out in, like, in between the first and second quarter and going back to my house to watch on the couch. I can't hear the audio, and there's so many damn 23-year-old girls with... I saw one of these girls was taking the sticker, you know, the sticker on the bottom of the hat, her friend was taking it off.
Starting point is 00:51:59 And I was just like, you just bought this hat. This is the first time you've ever wearing this hat. You feel like they're not real fans. You feel like they will... They just graduated. graduated from like Wesleyan or Ohio State, Miami, Ohio. And they all live. There's five of them that all, you know, share a one-bedroom apartment and split $3,000 five ways.
Starting point is 00:52:22 And, you know, and they're like, you know, interns at a hedge fund or something. So you're going to end up back at your house, you think, for game? Oh, for guarantee. I might watch the first half out, but like it's just so. But you're not even going to do a watch party. You're not going to do Central Park. You're not going to do. No.
Starting point is 00:52:38 Told you, Rob Mahoney, shut it down. What about the one that they were talking about today, the other park that was, that I saw the pictures of. It looked awesome. Central Park? No, the other one. There's Central Park, Astoria, Williamsburg. They're all over the place.
Starting point is 00:52:52 There's no shortage of places to watch Nick's game. Every single bar is like got signs outside a million TVs and they're packed. You know. But you just don't like being in that environment. I hate it. I want to be able to hear the announcers. I need to lock in. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:53:07 Right. And this is a big game. I think, you know, if it's two, two, going back to San Antonio, that gets a little dicey. I will say this. I mentioned this to my buddies this morning. I said,
Starting point is 00:53:20 well, that feels like a sucker bet. Because it was one and a half. It was sitting at Knicks, one and a half. And I'm like, who, it's game three in the garden,
Starting point is 00:53:33 all anybody's been talking about. And it's like, who's bed? the spurs. And why is it one and a half like a bucket? Like that just feel, it just felt odd. So I'm interested.
Starting point is 00:53:47 I bet they've already got a line posted. What do you guess? I'm going to, I'm going to pull this up right now. I'm going to pull this up for game four. Knicks plus two and a half. No. Yeah. You think that they won't be favored?
Starting point is 00:54:03 I think they won't be favored. So if it was one and a half, before tonight's game and then you watch that game, why wouldn't the Spurs be favor? But again, who's going to win the game? How you get the most action both sides? Nick's one and a half. Nix minus one and a half again? On Fandole, yep.
Starting point is 00:54:27 Okay. Same line. I lost $20 on that bet today, buddy. Same exact line. Same exact line. 20 American went down. But they are still favored. They're minus 184 to win the series.
Starting point is 00:54:41 I think I got two one lead. Yep. And two more home games. Yep. Most likely outcome, according to the odds, is New York Knicks for San Antonio 2. And oh my God, that game six, if it really does take place. And France is playing their World Cup game at MetLife. And when Benyama is playing it, Matt is.
Starting point is 00:55:11 I mean, golly. That would be insane. That would be insane. I was looking at some list today. I don't know anything about the World Cup. I was looking at some list today. France had three of the top seven players in the thing. And I was like, wait, what?
Starting point is 00:55:30 They got three of the top seven players in the World Cup. Oh, God. Yeah. So what day is game six? I don't want to think about this. The exact same day. That France plays at life? Yes.
Starting point is 00:55:43 Yes. Can you imagine that? And I think there's like a, there's some kind of Yankee thing going on as well. I saw somebody post something about it. Whatever. But I was glad, you know what, like this Trump thing has just been like a distraction all day long. It's all anyone's talking about. Really?
Starting point is 00:55:59 How long the lines are. Oh, yeah, yeah. You know what I mean? And they shut down this whole, like, they shut down big, like a, you know, I don't know, a couple of acres. Like you couldn't even like go to like, you know, places in these like big, area. Like Penn Station. I got to be honest with you.
Starting point is 00:56:15 Forget politics. Yeah. I would be so annoyed. That's what I'm saying. I mean, I saw the media line to get in and I was like, oh my. Ticket holders. Like, imagine just making $10,000 on a ticket and you have to wait for like two hours. And it seemed like people couldn't even, people couldn't even figure out how to get in and then they got to get padded down like their criminals.
Starting point is 00:56:38 And it's like, yeah. They do. And also they do metal detectors. at the garden. You know what I mean? Also with the lose, lose. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:56:46 Nobody likes, they're all booing him. So he did get the booed. And if they lose, then people are got to blame him. Blame him. Oh, yeah. If they win,
Starting point is 00:56:55 it's like, and also like those, those like the atmosphere outside the garden, especially when you can't get in because it's, it's $4,000 to like have your back against the wall. Those watch parties right outside the garden are really, really, really,
Starting point is 00:57:08 really high energy and fun. and add to the entire sort of like package of being a road team and being a home team playing in a high intensity garden game. And I just feel like taking those completely out. And also like let's say they won tonight. People just like naturally flood there. Remember I went to someone after a playout game last year? Like people just kind of flood there to celebrate
Starting point is 00:57:30 and do their little TikToks or whatever. But now it's kind of like, nope, we've got Secret Service and 4,000 cops and these big weird glass barricades and stanchions, you can't go anywhere or do anything. It's just kind of a vibe killer. Well, because I can only tell you, now look, I was on a broadcast for Adama ball, Ryan Rupéer and Bozo Malone or whoever was playing for the Grizzlies
Starting point is 00:57:56 at the end of the year. But this only happened one time. I live probably 25 minutes from the arena, right? on my way. So I leave one day and I drive down the same way every time and I've had this routine
Starting point is 00:58:13 for 20-something years. I'm driving down and all of a sudden I get to the road and it's just gridlock. Stop. This has never happened. Now I give myself over an hour I'm usually like an hour.
Starting point is 00:58:29 Oh, to get in. So you're on your way in. Oh, yeah. To get to the arena. So it's not moving. the road is not moving. It gets to the point where it's like maybe, I think we go on the air at 6.30, it's like 6 o'clock.
Starting point is 00:58:45 And I finally call Scott, our producer. And I'm like, Scott, this is never happened before. I don't know what to do. I'm sitting on the road. It won't move. And he's like, what's going on? I was like, I don't know. I don't know if there's some horrific wreck.
Starting point is 00:58:59 I don't know whatever. I was like, I really don't know. And then he's like, all right, well, we got you. If you're not here on time, blah, blah, blah. So I'm like, I can't believe this. Finally it clears up. I fly down there. I get to the arena at 627 run inside and I was on the air in time, right?
Starting point is 00:59:18 But it's the one time that I've ever been like absolutely panicked. And it actually happened this last season. And so there's a girl who works with us on the production crew. She's a newscaster in the morning. And I was like, Corey, what happened? it was Pam Bondi was in town, like the, whatever. And I'm like, are you serious? So I'm just telling you, it's only one time.
Starting point is 00:59:42 They shut down every road for like 40 minutes. Let me Google Pam Bondi. Who's Pam Bondi? I don't know this person in my way. She's also gone now. She was the attorney general. Oh. And she's already gone.
Starting point is 00:59:58 I thought she was like a country singer or something. No, no. She was Former United States Attorney General A government Joe Bondi Yeah dude For 40 minutes
Starting point is 01:00:08 They shut it down So all I'm saying is Take my aggravation Times a billion Because I didn't even Frankly I was hoping I could miss the game
Starting point is 01:00:20 My game But if I just spend 20 grand And then you had to wait for two hours They're like This text They're like Make sure you arrive two hours Before
Starting point is 01:00:30 We're like, what? It's already a hassle. You got to have the damn Nick's app. You can't get it. When I was in San Antonio, I downloaded that Spurs app so fast. You did? I know how this goes. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:44 I was like, I know how this goes. I had that Spurs app. It's 7 a.m. in the morning. All right. Jacoby, I am going to, I'm going to tell you. I do think that the next game determines the series. I do. I don't.
Starting point is 01:00:59 You're just telling you. yourself that to make you feel better. I don't feel good right now. It was Saturday morning. I was like, if there are euphoria of Friday night, like just euphoric of being in San Antonio for game one. And then having that happen on Friday night,
Starting point is 01:01:14 I was like, oh, the Knicks are going to be champions. And I woke up Saturday and I was like, you know what? Like, there's a million series. Not a million where the road team goes up to O. But remember like the CERT, the sons were up on the bucks 2O.
Starting point is 01:01:25 And we're all talking about Chris Paul's, you know, first championship. And it's just like, these aren't done. deals, man. You know, like, just because you've got a 2-0 lead, now it's 2-1. I think they'll make the adjustments and they'll be able to win the next game. And then probably drop 5.
Starting point is 01:01:43 Just got to win 1 of 3. He's got to win 1 of 3. That's it. Yeah. Yep. But you feel bad right now in the moment. Yeah. And I woke up Saturday.
Starting point is 01:01:51 I was like, dude, just be so nix. It would be so nix for them to like make the finals first time in 26 years and have the entire city on fire, like already booking their. days off for the parade. And then just next thing you know, they're down three, two coming back to the city. Because it felt like after the first two winning the first two on the road, it was going to be easy. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:11 This ain't going to be easy. Especially with the way Wemby started the game today, that was terrifying. I was like, I don't know why he doesn't do this. Andy, just tongue. Andy mush your best player at the back of the hill. And then no one did anything about it. They didn't do nothing.
Starting point is 01:02:24 Who was going to doze? Who, who? Mitch Robb's got broken hand. He can't punch anybody. He's got a boxer's fracture. sure. So who? Huck Porty. Just put him in. Mike Brown used to be a goon. But yeah, put Huck Porty in there and just give him a two by four. And then Mike Brown needs just to be like go in there. You can put it. I think it is. Well, my boy that played in Memphis got some big
Starting point is 01:02:45 ass muscles. He's still on the team, right? Trey Jemison. No, he's not there. Oh, he's not. He looks like a damn wrestler. No, I think he's there. But we got. Yeah, he plays like one, one two. Yeah. I think, man, what's your prediction for game four?
Starting point is 01:03:01 I think the next you're going to win. You think the next are going to win? I do. I could see it. I felt, I felt bad about their chances when I saw the line today.
Starting point is 01:03:10 It just felt like, okay, that's a sucker bet. Well, the line's the same. I got it. But I also think that this is, like,
Starting point is 01:03:18 they're going to be able to fix some things. That was the Spurs. I think if you and you're telling me I'm going to suspect that Mark Davis and John Goebler are not calling the next game
Starting point is 01:03:34 No they never do that And I think a free flowing game I'd be shocked if Brunson and those boys drop two On their home floor And they just got to stop putting themselves in these holes To start the game They played like
Starting point is 01:03:46 The second quarter was great But like what are we doing guys? That was it I thought they played like crap in the first And they played like nothing like them themselves in the fourth. Yes. Like,
Starting point is 01:03:59 so many possessions were just listless. They got stuff to clean up, but they got, but they also did not, I did not think they put their best foot forward, whereas San Antonio certainly defensively put their best foot forward. Absolutely. And they got the, and they got the monster Wembe game. I mean, that's a big game. They got a good Wemby game.
Starting point is 01:04:18 He wasn't, he didn't get to the hole as much as I'd like him to. But like, Brunson hasn't like really had like a 40 point game. or shot 60% from the field, there seemed unstoppable or forcing them to call timeouts. I don't remember Black Elon Musk calling a single timeout to stop a run, except in the second quarter. It's the only time he did it. He's worried about his SpaceX IPO.
Starting point is 01:04:41 It's coming out later this week. Stop blowing up rockets, Black Elon Musk. Every time that you're a rocket in his face, it blows up. That's not a good report of IPO. I'm not a finance guy. But my son is like a huge A&MU. aviation space guy. He's like, oh, they're shooting another rocket opportunity. Let's watch the launch. And I watched the launch. And like, oh, Pontomrient, the thing flew up and it's cost,
Starting point is 01:05:03 it cost Blackylawn. Did you, did you? I'm not going to suspect that you read that thing. I read some of that thing. One thing with the IPO stuff? Yes. I know, literally my 13, happy birthday quits. He's his birthday today. Literally, I get my information about that from him. He's like, you should check out your 401k dad. He's 13, literally 12 yesterday. You should check out your 401k dad because these index funds, they're diverting. some of the money towards the IPA. It's an overvalued company to begin with. And I'm just like, what TikToker gave you this information?
Starting point is 01:05:32 Hey, hey, it's in there, though? I promise you, it's in there that part of the plans are to colonize Mars with a million people. He's going to shoot a million people up to Mars. Well, he's got, how about putting one rocket in space that comes back in one piece first, before we put a million people on there? No, there could be a million people on Mars. Well, put, put, Wimby.
Starting point is 01:05:55 Put Wimby up there. You're the alien. Let's shoot him to Mars. He can start that. Go ahead. Before game four. Put Wimby. And I'm going to mush him in the back of the head right before he gets on the rocket.
Starting point is 01:06:05 Like a stool, stand on top of it. He mushed him. Don't be, little man, little man. Why is that not reviewable? Like, if you could rectoactively change a three to a two and vice versa, like, that's a flagrant. Why does Jalen Brunsson have a flagrant for getting stepped on in a completely the unnatural motion coming down from a three-point shot.
Starting point is 01:06:28 But Wemba just mushing people out here. You're going to take it up with Martin Davis and John Goebel. No, do you know where I'm going to be for the next $40, bro? Drong. Grammercy Park. Oh, you're hiding out. I'm being the bushes. You're getting the key?
Starting point is 01:06:45 I'm getting it. I don't need a key. I'll climb the fence in the middle of the night. And you're just going to run up to him and start ripping up his drawing back. Screw your drawings. I'm going to go to the lady be like, he just kicked a soccer ball. That's all guy. Kick the soccer ball.
Starting point is 01:06:58 Put him in jail. I'm out of here. All right. Hey, we're so happy. Our producer Jesse Lopez is back to the ball. Jesse's back. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:07:10 And he's a father just like us. Thanks to Jeff and Steph and Jesse as always. Happy birthday, Haley, buddy. Yeah, man. My daughter turned 13 this week. Your son turned 13 today. So we're done with kids caring about us.
Starting point is 01:07:25 Bro, we always... For a couple years. We go to two places for birthday celebrations. One is Benny Hana. Another one is this crab boil place called the boil. And the crab boil place. Like, you know, we got some aunties there. And it's cash only.
Starting point is 01:07:40 My kids are getting older. I've got two 10-year-olds too. So now they want to order their own crab bags and open up the crab because they like it. Bro, you have no idea how much money. I think I probably should just gone to the game. I should have just gone. of the game. Oh my God.
Starting point is 01:07:53 We did. We had, uh, now, look, you, you'll trade with me, though, 10 girl, 12 year old girls over for a sleepover.
Starting point is 01:08:03 Oh, those are the worst. Buddy. Just go to bed, y'all. And we catered raising canes. It's weird. It got a cookie cake.
Starting point is 01:08:18 And I made it for it. All right. All right. to Jeff Jeff, Jeff, Jeff, Jeff, Steph as always. And Jacobi, I'll talk to me.
