Welcome to the mismatch.
I'm Chris Farnan.
And joining me
and he does every week
from the ringer.com
is Dave Jacoby.
Jacoby.
So,
Verno,
like,
I'll never lie into a microphone.
That's something I've been saying
for years.
I was looking at what
we're going to talk about today
and I was like,
you know what?
There's not,
just just not a lot of news.
You know,
like,
it's just like,
it's like,
uh,
uh,
wendy signed a shoe deal.
It's like,
it's like,
okay.
because, you know, I produced Game Over 2
and, like, I'll do the rundown for them
and try to scrape something together.
But, like, between me and you, man,
I was concerned about it, and you sent me a great text.
Tell me, tell the people the text you sent.
Well, look, we had two choices.
We were either going to do the loves and loads
of the NBA offseason thus far,
or we were going to one-up bill
and redraft the 1983 NBA draft.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And so we decided.
Between the mailback.
and the redrafts.
I know Bill doesn't listen
so I can say this.
Bro, between the mailbags
and the redrafts,
like,
you know what you?
It should be like,
it should be like a mailbag.
This first one is from Bill Simmons
to Bill Simmons
because I've been mailing in the summer.
When you used to produce the show,
were you in charge
of putting together all the emails?
No.
No,
it's always been his gig.
And he gets a lot too.
He gets a lot.
One thing about Bill is he will keep old emails.
He'll like,
It'll, like, forward you an email from 2008 that you forgot about, just randomly.
Like, this dude is on it.
He's got a memory in an archive.
Like, you don't even know.
Amazing.
All right.
So we are going to do our loves and loves of the NBA offseason.
And now that everything did die down completely, kind of what we are left with thinking
about as we have now headed into the total downtime of NBA and NBA news.
There's still, like, a couple of free agents.
There's the Ben Mather and.
thing.
The restricted for agents out there,
Jaylen Daron's shirt.
There are loose ends to be tied.
I incorporated a news item into one of my loves and loads
that I don't want to tease.
I'll tease for later.
But there's stuff happening and stuff too happened.
There's always is.
There's some stuff going on.
All right.
We're going to start with my first love.
What I am left with from this NBA
off season more than anything is
the rise of the east, and this is twofold.
A, the more I look at it,
and again,
I was being swayed a little bit by being in Milwaukee a week and a half ago where I was like,
you know, I really like Taylor Jenkins in Memphis when he was when he was coaching.
And I love Braden Burries when I watched him in Summer League.
I was like, sure.
Me too.
And they got Khalil Ware and Tyler Hero.
This is where you're starting the show, my guy?
No, no.
All I'm saying is, yeah, the last.
time we talked about this, we mentioned that really there's only like three teams that are like
out of it. And that's probably true with the bucks, the bulls, and the nets, right? But the bulls, like,
you know, they've obviously, they got the first of all, the bulls is one of my one of my loves for later.
So hold on. But they've got they got the Caleb Wilson thing. They've got Norm Powell. They've got
Nick Clacks.
They might not be horrible.
The bucks might not be horrible.
Like the nets are probably the only one that's like legitimately horrible.
Okay.
So all I'm saying is you've got the deepest this thing has ever been wide margin.
When we were trying to go through last week and be like, who are the eight teams
and who are the three or four that we're leaving on the outside looking in?
Because we were down to like, you know, the Pacers are getting Halliburton back and the Raptors have Kauai and the heat added Janus and on and on and on.
And but more important, I was thinking about this this upcoming year.
One of the hard parts about being doing an NBA podcast on a regular basis is I feel this inordinate.
There's no hard parts.
Yeah.
No, no, no.
Hear me out.
The pressure to stay up late for these West Coast teams.
And the fact that these West Coast teams,
the Lakers, all the California teams now,
like the Lakers and the Kings and the Warriors and, like,
most of the teams that are now on the West Coast,
like, I'm not going to feel like I love that the,
that the pendulum has swung,
the East has got a bunch of guys now.
And most importantly, that's a ton.
I live in Central Time Zone.
So that's a ton of six o'clock and a ton of,
7 o'clock where I live.
And then the only ones, like those 930 games where I live, which are 10.30 where you live,
like you had to watch those.
Like you had to find out, especially if you were going to be doing a podcast,
who's like, bro, what was going on with Curry and all them for so long?
And what was going on with LeBron and Luca and LeBron for so long?
It's like the less relevance of the late team.
and then this rise of the east,
which now seemingly is going to be incredibly fun.
Like the fact that I was just for fun,
screwing around the other day and trying to slot them in,
like when I heard somebody say,
I think the 76ers should be the favorite or whatever, right?
And then I'm like, all right, oh, then you got the next.
And the fact that I'm trying to slot in and figure out, like,
okay, where am I putting the number one team that won 60 games?
because I'm pretty far down the list.
And that was the pistons.
I know, it's crazy.
But, I mean, that's how good that, you know,
that side of things have gotten.
And so there's twofold.
A, I love that the pendulum has swung.
And now the Eastern Conference is so deep.
And they're with the, with so many stars going over there
and not being able to figure out who are going to be the ones
that are the big disappointments that made the big swings of the offseason.
but maybe even more importantly
that the teams in the West,
and especially on the far west coast,
are not absolute must-see,
I can't live without knowing
what happened in their game the night before.
And that is the first time that has been true in,
I can't remember how honestly.
Like you've got to go back pre-warriers,
pre-warriars, Curry?
No, but then the Lakers.
Wait, Kobe was on the Lakers.
Even before, even before then, yeah.
Yeah, so first of all,
I was ready to push back on this thing
because staying up to watch basketball games
professionally is like not, you know, I used to have like real
jobs. You know what I mean? Like it's not hard work.
But it is annoying,
especially when like the team that was down 20
at the half makes a 15-0 run in the third quarter.
Like, oh, God damn it.
But still,
I mean, during those warriors years,
it's intriguing. During the warrior year,
you could never go to bed at halftime
because the third quarter, they bomb everybody out.
Well, do you remember when they win there?
Was it a 17-game win streak?
21-game win-street?
I forget the number.
But it was like they were basically like a band on tour,
where it's all that mattered was where they were,
who they're playing, and were they going to win or not.
But a couple things I want to say.
Number one, I don't have this in the rest of the show,
so I'll just say it now.
If you were to ask me,
is a team from the Eastern Conference
of the Western Conference going to win the championship next year,
I would probably gunned to my head,
bet on the team from the Western Conference.
So the power balance has shifted somewhat.
Kauai, we don't know, who cares, whatever.
But like, I do still feel like the Spurs and the Thunder
who is going to get their second best player back, for real,
are like the favorites.
Wouldn't you say that?
Yes.
Okay.
I mean, certainly.
I mean, certainly.
I mean, I think it's Spurs.
Thunder Knicks.
I mean, at the top, and then we're figuring,
and then the rest are, you know,
either big or small question marks.
You know, we got to see it.
Yes. Right? We got to see it.
Yes.
And, those are the three teams that were massively confident in,
which, by the way, Eastern Conference,
Eastern Time Zone, two Central Time Zone teams.
Yeah, all good point.
And also, like, do you remember, like,
as an Eastern Conference fan, my entire life,
shout to your Larry Bird T-shirt.
shout to the legend.
The West Coast road trip
was a thing that would kind of like be intimidating.
It's like, well, they got this game.
They got this game to then against the hornets at home in the garden.
And then they're going on the West Coast road trip.
And it's the Clippers and the Lakers.
And then they go up and they play the Kings.
That'll be a win.
And then they play the Warriors.
And then they go play the Blazers.
Like that used to be like a, let's hope we, you know,
let's hope we go two and three on that trip.
Oh, on the way back, you're getting like,
the thunder and the nuggets.
Like the West Coast road trip doesn't feel as intimidating as it used.
Oh, yeah.
And I mean, look, and I say this is covering a team that was a playoff team for like,
whatever it was, seven years in a row or whatever.
And then obviously had the Morant run too.
Like, you would build up your record playing against the East.
Yeah.
That's what that was for.
You know what I mean?
You would go and be like, okay, now you got Indiana and Charlotte and, you know, Orlando
and whatever.
You're like, that's where you were getting your wins because you're coming.
coming back and you're playing Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio.
Let me tell you my first love.
Let me hear.
Verno, we've been doing one show a week, and I feel like we haven't talked as much.
You know what I mean?
Like, I feel like our relationship has changed a little bit doing one show a week.
You know what I mean?
You just referenced our show last week.
I was like, I don't remember.
We were you talked about.
Like, I feel less close to you and we need to change that.
That was, look, last week.
That's not my love.
That's not my love.
Do you know what my love is?
the Knicks won the championship
and nothing else matters.
Oh, shut up.
Nothing matters.
Dude, nothing matters.
You're not here.
The city is absolutely on fire still.
I still see strangers wearing a Knicks t-shirt
and they're just like walking by me,
not even saying hi,
being like, Knicks and five.
It's just like what everybody says to each other.
Like it's a new way,
it's a new salutation just to be like Nixon five.
Like this is not changed at all.
I have not felt
this city
be this happy about a championship
even like the Elon Manning Giants
and like the Yankees won a ton
nothing has been like this
it's still absolutely a blaze
with Nick's enthusiasm
they made these like cheap t-shirts
whoever came out with the first one
they must have printed like a hundred thousand
because there's this one version of the Knicks
championship t-shirt which is just everywhere
and people are still wearing them
kids wearing them, parents wearing them.
I had a kid at my house from London yesterday.
He's 10 years old.
He had a Brunson jersey on.
He is from London with an English accent.
It's just like this city is unlike anything I've ever seen.
And we're talking about off-season loves.
I just love that the priority was like,
re-sign Alvarado, re-sign Shamit,
resign Clarkson, get Diora involved.
Yes, Mitch is gone.
Sorry.
Hark Porty's gone.
I've spent this summer
convinced myself that Mitch Robinson
is not valuable whatsoever.
Even though he had the biggest
offensive rebound this side of O.G.
And Adobe.
Well, you can't call it the biggest
when you have a caveat right next to it.
I'm just like,
yeah, he never really played that much.
He's injured a lot.
I was like, yeah, whatever, Mitch.
You know, like the trucks are cool,
but it's just I just can't express to you
because you're not here.
Being here this summer has been unique in my,
God, 30 years with a stint in Los Angeles of being here.
It's just, it's just nothing like it.
It's like, don't talk to me about Summer League.
I don't care.
Wait.
Don't talk to me about Tyler Nicol.
Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
Jack Killillill.
Hold on.
Did you live there the whole time you were working at ESPN?
Yeah, I never went to Bristol.
I didn't know that.
No, there were years where I would Monday through Friday in a hotel in Bristol and then come back for the weekend.
Yeah, never, never lived in Bristol.
You've never been to Bristol.
If you go to Bristol, you understand why.
Yes, I have.
I have.
Oh, yeah, you bit.
But like, well, no, like that.
Auditioned and didn't get the part?
No, so.
Is that too much?
I'm sorry.
No, I don't mind.
I was a big, like, I was a big up-and-coming sports talk host, whatever it was, 20 years ago.
And so they identified me and wanted to bring me there to meet everybody, to walk around to, like, so I spent the day with Mike and Mike.
And then Colin wasn't there.
I think it was a Cicillian the odds.
Casilius or somebody was like filling in.
Yeah, yeah.
And I was, and then I was around all the day.
Casilius.
Yeah, he was like a local Connecticut.
I believe I don't want to miss,
I don't remember his career perfectly,
but he was like the guy that like the executives would listen to
when they're on their way in because he was a local radio guy.
Well,
and then I was,
and then I was around all of Dan's guys all day and met all them.
And they were great.
Like everybody was super cool.
And so like I walked around the campus, whatever.
And then I go and I meet with the guy.
And I don't mind tell of this story.
I meet with the guy and they're talking to me about doing.
guy's name.
They were doing like night.
He was the guy in charge of radio
at the time.
Again, this is 20 years ago.
And it's like,
but it was important 20 years ago.
It was.
It was.
They were offering me weekends
and like talking about
doing weekends and stuff.
Take it.
Dan Patrick told me not to.
True story.
He saw your potential
and he was threatened.
No.
He heard the voice.
He heard the takes.
He was threatened.
No.
Take the gig, dude.
No, this is what he told me.
This is at the time.
He goes, you have a great thing going, which I did.
And he goes, if you take that gig, they will never see you as anything more.
Nobody's moving from the nights and the weekends to what you want to be.
And I was like, say less.
I didn't do it.
And he was like, eventually one day, you might have the fortune to be partnered with David Jacoby on an NBA podcast.
He actually said that.
Word for work.
Yeah.
He did say that.
He told me that story, actually.
Yeah, he told me that story.
Dan Patrick was great to me.
I love Dan Patrick.
I mean, honestly.
And he gave me...
There are a few people with negative stories about Dan Patrick.
He gave me other great advice throughout the years.
Like, he was always really good to me.
But, like, and that was good advice at the time.
He, and watching it, I watched as it went on.
And nobody that was on nights and weekends ever ended up during the day.
You know what I mean?
The nights and weekends guy.
And you also come in at a nights and weekends.
salary. We don't have to do too much like inside baseball stuff.
But if you come in at a nights and weekend salary,
they're never going to be like, you know what, let's 10x that.
We love this guy. It's just not going to happen.
That's right. That's right. But when you blow up in Memphis and then you're the guy,
and then they bring you in for a regular spot. You get the regular spot salary.
Correct. All right.
My first load. Somehow you changed it from the next one in the championship because you
hate the next one in the championship. I don't hate that. You wanted to change the subject.
I was so happy for you. It was unbelievable. I asked you if you lived in New York
when you worked at ESPA because I had never even
thought of that.
I figured you just lived in Connecticut
like everybody else did.
Like,
they live in Hartford or some crap?
Yeah.
West Hartford.
Yeah, they live in Hartford.
Shot to Max's oysters.
Yeah, but you just never lived there.
Huh.
Interesting.
There ain't nothing there.
It's not my left side.
There's ESPN.
That's it.
Right.
All right.
Loads.
This is easy for me.
This is NBA offseason load.
The second apron.
And now we are really feeling the impact of this, right?
We've seen it over and over again.
We've got this weird thing going on right now where you can have this, you know,
say like the Thunder, right?
They got this homegrown talent that's now elsewhere with where it's Lou Dord or Aaron Wiggins
or Isaiah Joe or whatever else.
Obviously, the biggest of those is Jalen Brown moving to Philadelphia this year,
a choice that they made.
But these choices are being made because guys are getting paid at a rate now where they're making like,
they might not even be able to be your best player anymore, but they're getting paid $60,000,
and it's almost like, or $70 million.
$70,000.
Right.
That's a weekend rate at ESPN.
But I mean, so now I do wonder when you've got a smart guy like Brad Stevens, and I said,
when he was sitting up there,
I was like, you know, he might have a point,
though this is going to be wildly unpopular,
about team building and can you do this?
Can you have X percentage of your cap
into two amazing players
that are getting the absolute maximum contracts
for being all NBA and whatever else?
And time will tell on that.
And so now if we put ourselves into a position
where even if you do get these two amazing players,
your only chance is to be, have like your best player take a team friendly contract,
like we did with Wembe this offseason.
Obviously, that was a huge Brunson story with what he did enabling the Knicks.
So is that the choice that's going to have to be made?
And I believe it was Bill that mentioned this in passing several months ago.
And this is really stuck in my head.
And I want to get behind this a million percent.
that in this new era,
now that we have seen what it has wrought
and that teams are going to be consistently losing players
and fans are going to be losing guys that they,
you know, maybe even role players, right?
As soon as they get good,
as soon as it's time to pay them,
now we've got to move on and we've got to replace them
with more cheap salaries.
And then we've got to make another decision.
If, God forbid, you draft three really good ones.
Now we're having to choose between those three.
Like the spurs.
Right.
Now we're having to choose between those three or whatever.
And it's like I, and this is what I want to get by.
They have to implement.
And I think this fixes it when you think about through the prism of the fans,
you get a discount on guys you draft.
End of story.
It counts less against the cap, whether that's 10%,
which would be a huge number, right?
But that you're, yeah, you, six million dollars, that's sure.
Well, it is, well, that's a player now.
And that's a player.
For some of these teams, that's players 11 through 15 now, honestly.
Because 11 through 15, it's 8 through 15.
No, no, no, no, no, no.
I'm saying that's what all of them get paid combined is $6 million.
Honestly, like, that's a lot of teams.
Because what they're doing is they're just drafting or they're bringing
in undrafted or they're bringing up G-League guys or they're converting their two ways,
whatever, to fill out those roster spots because everything, you know, your salary is so top-heavy.
So, but if you did that for all your guys, right?
And now all of a sudden, you, that's everything they wanted to take place.
They want these teams to be able to build through the draft, to be homegrown and whatever
else.
And so there has to be a way where these guys.
that you can pay your own players.
But if you drafted them and you developed them,
it counts, whatever it is, 10% less on your cap
while they're still getting paid the full boat.
Now, if they go elsewhere,
and if they go elsewhere,
then you don't get that break anymore.
And whatever you attain, you don't get that break.
But I do, I feel like that's the way
because otherwise there's just going to be
such extreme player movement
and these teams, like, you're never going to be able to have longer than a two-year run.
I mean, I think that's your max.
I think you're really like two years and then the decisions have to be made
or enough guys are going to have to break up from it or whatever else.
Unless you've got a bunch of young guys on cheap salaries,
which is what we just talked about, you know, regarding the spurs, right?
And when I made that point during the season,
you might have to be young, you know, going forward.
Obviously, the vets are the ones that won it this year.
But going forward, that may be the way is to just have three or four guys
that are just wildly outperforming their contracts
because they're on their rookie deals.
Because by time it's time to pay them,
everybody's getting $200 million if you're worth a crap.
If you don't have three or four rotation players
that are worth more than their salary,
then you are not going to be a contender.
Right.
It's pretty much that simple.
And there should not be a world in which you draft,
Victor Wemba,
and Steph Kassel and Dylan Harper.
And before Dylan Harper's rookie year is over,
we're sitting here being like,
well, what's going to happen in the future?
They're going to have to make a decision.
Like, that's gross.
It makes me just like,
I don't even like talking about it.
I know.
It's like you made three great draft picks in a row.
Yep.
And now we're talking about,
well,
how are they going to sustain this?
And I'm just going to go into one of my loads
that I was going to do later because I don't want to talk about Wemby all
time.
But one of my lows is that Wemby,
is that Wemby took less.
You know, I've got a complicated history with Wemby.
People that listen to Mismatch know that I've been not liked Wembe since, like, preseason
last year.
You know what I mean?
No, put your cigarette away.
I can find it.
I can't find it.
No one can see it.
He's looking for his stupid friend cigarette.
I can't find it.
Let me make my point.
Because I'm, listen, everyone knows I have some complicated history with Victor Wembe
Yama, but I will say this, is I respect him as a basketball player.
I respect him as a competitor.
I respect his work ethic.
And I recognize him as one of the best basketball players
in the National Basketball Association.
He will win multiple MVPs and hopefully for him multiple championships.
That's me being nice.
I don't think someone from their rookie year to their second deal.
That's the big deal.
That's second contract who won defensive player of the year
should have to take close to $50 million less to keep the team competitive.
And then you read the articles that's like, well, Tim Duncan did it for the Spurs,
by the Spurs culture.
Well, guess what?
Tim Duncan had already made tons of money in one championships than he made those concessions.
Like to ask someone who's going into their, what is it, going into their fourth year in the league,
be like, listen, for us to win, even though we went to the finals,
and we beat the champions last year
in game seven,
and you had a huge part of that
for us to win,
you're going to have to take less.
They didn't ask him.
He did that on his own.
You know he did that on his own.
Oh, stop it.
Oh, stop it.
And also he said, yes.
You think he walks in the room and said,
you know what, guys,
like whatever you guys put in front me,
I'm just going to sign
because I have such faith in the organization.
I just load the fact that he's not getting paid
his market value.
He's not getting paid his market value
on his second deal.
And Jalen.
Rundson, who knows what happened there.
But he was also a second round pick.
He was not like an A1, number one option, all-MBA guy when he signed that deal.
To do that to the future face of the league, like one of the biggest stars, MVP finalists,
to have him, to go into a meeting with him and be like, the contracts are such that we could
pay you X, but we're going to pay you X minus Y is not fair.
He ended up sign up for $252 million over five years,
25 the max tier.
You just don't like that he did.
He could have gotten $303 million.
You just don't like it that Brunton's no longer the guy.
Be honest.
Oh, and also.
The guy that took less for his team to be good.
I'm trying to make this a positive Wemby segment.
All right.
So I'm not going to say anything like that.
Wait,
wait until you find out that he's now part owner of a Rhode Island soccer team.
Yeah, he's going to show up with.
Siegelman's naples hats and some twists of the off-season.
All right.

Let's get to my second love.
Underrated acquisition.
All right.
So this was the summer of LaBron.
and Jalen Brown and Janice and LaBello and all these guys.
But some of the ones I like, so I was going through all the teams and what they did.
I love this right now.
I was going to say that I love this as one of your loves and I'm excited to hear it go.
The Hawks have a bunch of good players now.
So they got Devin Carter, who I liked out of the draft and it's just been like, you know,
doing nothing in Sacramento.
Like it's been in witness protection.
But I liked him coming out of the draft.
his dad was an assistant coach for the Grizzlies at the time.
It was a long time heat guy, Anthony Carter.
Aaron Wiggins, Lou Dort,
Ryan Nemhart, I really liked him for Dallas last year.
I think starting with Carter was a bit of a slow play,
but yeah, I think Dorton.
No, you know, and then they got,
and then they got Kingston Fleming's and Zuby,
and then the tall kid from,
North Carolina, right?
Vsar or whatever his name was, too.
Like, they did pretty good in the draft
where they looked like they probably hit on three different guys there.
Then they got these guys.
And they were already pretty good.
They got off a research.
They didn't give up really anything.
And, like, it just feels like they could really be, like,
the deep tryhard team that's, like, better than, like,
all these other teams have bigger stars,
but that, like, the Hawks are actually really,
really good because they just got a bunch of good players.
Obviously, so then when I was going through it, here's some other underrated ones.
The bridge, I think the Bridges one went a little bit under the radar,
simply because Lamello went to, went to Minnesota.
But Miles Bridges going to Phoenix, who had a good season last year.
Kelly Upre to Indiana.
Kelly Upray had a sneaky good season last year.
Oh, hell, yeah.
I mean, a lot of opportunity to have a good season because they were running out some lineups
when they were all injured or whatever.
I got it.
But I mean, like,
someone's going to get 20.
They play that space and space thing at Indiana.
They're flying up and down the court.
And Halliburton will get you good shots.
You just got to knock them down.
Yeah.
If Halliburton's got the ball and you're on the wing,
you don't go to the cup.
You just go to the,
if you're Kelly Ubrey,
you just go to the three-point wing and you're good.
Also, I'm going to give you one that is so far under the radar.
It's unbelievable.
Do you know DeAndre Aten as a wizard?
Yes, I do know that.
Which is, again, I've always hated D'Aidton.
He said always hated.
But when he was, when he was, when the, when the sun were up to nothing.
Okay, okay, I take it back.
When they were up to nothing.
Yeah, he was fine then.
We were like, oh, yeah, number one pick for sure.
I was fine with him then.
But the rest of the time he has played like he wears AirPods when he plays.
But if he's my backup and like, like,
my, you know, little AD insurance.
I was like, you know what?
He's actually in a spot.
It's a weird spot for sure.
But, I mean, he ain't playing in front of Saur and AD.
So it's like, DeAndre Aiton is my backup.
Pretty good.
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
And Trey Young can, we'll get you.
If you are over 610 and semi-competit,
Trey Yon will get you three buckets a game.
And then obviously the greatest and most underrated acquisition
in the history of team sports is I say,
Beef stew.
Beef stew.
I knew you're going to say,
I mean,
what are we talking about?
It's not even close.
What are we even talking about?
Yeah.
All right.
Go to your,
go to your next love.
My next love.
All right,
I've changed my order here.
All right,
I'm going to do this one.
The Chicago Bulls are going to be this year's Hornets.
Oh, gosh.
How?
First of all,
there's 150 players that are like,
quote,
unquote, starters in the NBA.
And if you look at any team starting five,
they're all kind of like,
sucker free, like even like the Nets.
You're like, I don't know, man, they got Randall and Porter Jr.
I like that Joman kid.
Like, the Bulls start five.
Yeager's second year leave.
Yeah, Yeager Joman.
If he was just Igor Demen, I would love him so much more.
But anyway.
Josh Giddy, Norm Powell,
Buzilis, Caleb Wilson,
Rejuvenated
Nick Claxton
Rejubinated
I like Nick Claxton
Ty Jones O'Corro
Swain
Jalen Smith Patrick Williams
Oh that got dark
Quick
The starting five I like to start five
I started by saying the starting five
Did that?
No
Giddy Powell Bezellis Wilson
Is it is terrible
Is it?
Are you sure?
I mean, it's fun to watch
Caleb Wilson.
Are you sure that's terrible?
Norm Powell, since he went to the
Clippers, since he left the country
of Canada, something about Canada.
He was an all-star.
Last year.
No, what I'm saying? Like, Norm Powell's been, like, a 20-point-a-game
guy with the Clippers and
with the heat. Giddy's a table-setter.
And then Boozealous, Wilson,
clax? Like, that's terrible.
You're saying it's terrible.
I think they will be fun to watch because of Wilson.
And that's where it is.
Yes, I think they're going to be awful.
Awful.
My opinion.
It's just my opinion.
The lead, the Easter conference is awesome.
Awesome.
And as soon as you got to player six, I was like,
it's tough.
Remember,
Remember Jalen Smith?
Remember Jalen Smith?
He's there.
Do I ever?
All right.
My next load.
I'm going to do this one quick because I don't want to spend a lot of time.
The never-ending Clipper story.
So what we're doing,
2027 now?
Is that what we're doing?
The latest headline is like,
this is going to take longer.
What?
2027.
I watched that last Pablo Torre podcast because I was like,
all right,
what now?
Bro, I love Pablo.
I'm not watching that shit.
I need someone else to watch.
It's like a movie.
So it's like a movie.
It's got to come out.
Someone used to watch it and tell me it's great.
And then I'll watch it.
But he teases it online with these little like tomorrow.
We got an episode drop.
We've got an update on the aspiration.
I love Pablo.
That's a friend of mine.
Until someone tells me it's good, I'm out.
Bro, they said that that's why I made the Rhode Island soccer team joke.
Because him and Uncle Dennis have a stake in this Rhode Island soccer team, right?
They have a stake in the Rhode Island soccer team.
And it's like, I watched the whole damn thing.
against the end or like, not 100% if this is nefarious, but certainly worth looking into.
And I'm just thinking to myself the next morning, Adam Silver and them have to be like,
are you serious right now?
Yeah, we're going to avoid that $200 million contract because of a Rhode Island soccer team.
First of all, the nouns in that sentence, Rhode Island, no one even knows where it is.
Ask somebody in Idaho where Rhode Island is.
They're like, is that, is it a road on an island?
And the soccer team, like soccer, like, soccer.
There was the World Cup left.
Every flew away.
It's in, yeah.
It's in Paul.
It's in Pawtucket.
Pawtucket?
The Paw Sox.
That's where the minor league team for the, uh, the Red Sox is.
Yeah, no longer there.
Hold on a second.
Speaking of minor league, baseball.
They're, they're worst.
Have we talked about you versus Joey, Joey Chestnut?
I don't think so.
Uh, you got a, I'm going to put,
45 seconds on the clock.
Go.
So competed against Joey Chestnut in,
that was one of the things I did this summer in an eating contest.
We're eating?
Barbecue nachos,
which were like truly disgusting because-
That's awful.
There's whole pork on there?
Yeah, but look, I love barbecue nachos.
But because you can't, like,
he can't eat with.
speed like with chips with the throat thing like you could cut up your throat pretty good doing that
so it had to be soggy so imagine the chips yeah so the barbecue and the cheese and everything
had been on there for hours so it was just it's just slop you know what I mean you mean and yeah
oh I mean buddy I was looking out of the corner of my eye and he ate the whatever five pounds of it
in I think it was what is that?
45 seconds are up.
Your 45 seconds are up, yeah.
In two minutes and 12 seconds.
That's how long he ate him.
And I was like, thank God.
I don't know if I'm, I almost threw up twice.
Terrible.
But I'm glad I did it.
And let me just say this.
I just want to let everybody know this.
I was around this guy the entire night.
This guy, number one, is crazy famous,
but took every pitcher, signed every autograph.
He was so nice to,
everyone.
And I know he was getting,
a lot of the times,
like,
if you have a special guest like that,
they'll go and,
like, hide out in their dressing room
when they're not having to do
their meat and green
or whatever their performance is
or whatever.
No,
he was in the mix the whole time,
like with people,
he was great.
I was mega impressed.
He was a nicest guy,
Joey Ches.
You know,
do you know who I learned that from?
Chandling Anthony Rose.
We could be late to,
we'll be late to a live show.
Someone will be like,
I know,
your fame, he's kind of take a picture, he'll stop and take a picture.
He's like, just never take it for granted.
Oh, everybody. He's like, everybody.
Everybody to ask him for a picture.
But also, do not take a picture of Jalen Rose if you did not ask.
That's not fair.
That's fair.
All right.
So I didn't really hear your Joey Chestnut story because I just realized that on the Zoom,
you put your name as El Verno Diablo.
It's just a little distracting.
I don't want to know the story of El Verno Diablo.
Let's just get to your next door.
No.
No.
No.
You will love this.
My yard guy, the guy cuts my yard, Sergio, he only calls me Diablo.
He doesn't know.
I think I've heard this before.
He doesn't know my name.
That's the best, that's the greatest relationship.
He's never known my name.
And it's because that was my name on cash app or whatever it was when I first spent the money.
It was our screen name, me and my son, when we had to make a video screen name.
So how do you want
How do you want me to pay you?
He's like, do you have OnlyFans?
Yeah.
Oh, they, it's always, it's always, it's always cash app or Zell or it's never, yeah, it's never anything on the books.
Anyway, the never ending Clippers thing and it's like, all right.
I don't care anymore.
Wake us up in 27.
Yeah.
And then once a ruling comes out, the, there's the appeal.
It's just like, I don't care.
Okay.
Put him on the Raptors.
I don't care. Put him on the rapt.
All right.
You're big buddies with Pablo, right?
Like, this guy is like one of your best friends in the world.
So.
Not one of her best friends, world.
I didn't see him two weeks ago on Saturday at Ryan Holmes House, but yes.
Okay.
So do this.
Just say, next time you're with him, since you're around them, say, Pablo,
just unleash it all because you're the one doing this.
Just drop it all out.
That way they can do their goofy investigation, and then we can be done with this.
But they know that the second.
they make a ruling, he's going to drop
another damn podcast.
You know they do. They're like,
it's just ridiculous that like a
law firm that they've paid hundreds
of millions of dollars to are
waiting for like, my
buddy from ESPN to release a podcast.
All right.
Your next load. This is
emotional. The
Warriors missing out in LeBron
and like,
I do like Yaxel.
Nothing else of
significance. They lost Quentin
Post to your stupid Grizzlies.
They brought back Green, Melton,
Horford, Payton, but they're like,
what is this team? I cannot believe you
said you like,
I hate Yaxel more than
any player I've hated in the last
10 years. Oh, good.
Really? Truly.
That whole, when he
beat the Grizzlies in Summer League and then
was like, some people are built for it.
And some people, I was like, oh, I can't
stand.
because Draymond's going to retire at some points
you can just transfer that to Yassel.
I think Draymond's going to beat him up in training camp.
I'm just like, I just don't,
this is a thing where it's like,
I don't feel a certain way about a player staying with a team
their entire career,
and I just feel like we are at the twilight of Steph's career.
Let's put him on a competitive team.
Do the right thing if you're the Warriors.
You are not competitive.
Totally fair.
All right.
Next love.
The new coaches.
I am actually fond of this.
Oh, good one.
So we got Dusty May in Dallas.
That's super fun to keep the tabs on because the guy was a Florida Atlantic coach.
Then he was the Michigan coach.
Now he's coaching in the NBA.
He's the new, you know, the new hot thing.
He is a draft in his own player over yaxel.
He's got Cooper flagged there in the mix.
And it's just different and it's fun and it's fun to see how he ends up.
You've got this gruff, Sean Sweeney guy who,
media guys love who was running the defense at San Antonio.
And that Orlando operation was such a joke to watch last year with five guys just standing
around all the time.
Like they've got Jenkins.
Jenkins,
you mentioned earlier.
But they've got talent there in Orlando for sure.
They have talent that they were supposed to be on the come up.
So we'll see how much a coach can.
If you look at what Orlando did this off season, they're basically like, yeah, we switch coaches.
Like we addressed the problem.
And then he got the Pelicans job.
Jamal Mosley did.
Then you've got, as you mentioned,
whatever's happening in New Orleans is just like,
that's just, it's bizarre.
Then you've got Taylor Jenkins in Milwaukee.
And then you've got the whole Portland, Chicago thing,
with Mike Anori taking over Portland on a one-year contract
when he's going to try to bring John Morant off the bench.
And then you've got Tiago split.
who was the guy that was ousted
after doing what everybody thought
was a very noble job in Portland
taking over that Chicago team
that you're weirdly in love with.
So this is a good deal.
We got six new coaches
and they're all interesting in some way.
You know what I mean?
I've always liked Micah Norrie's personality.
I'm not going to act like I'm in the meetings
and practices to understand what he does
with like X's nose.
but like he's always been like,
oh, like I'm always doing the interview.
I'm going to listen to it.
You know what I mean?
No, he's good.
He's mega likable.
He is.
No, but I like the crop.
I mean,
it's six new ones.
And I think that some of them could make big improvements with those teams.
For sure.
We just had a coach improvement last year with the Knicks that ended up reaping them a championship.
So I don't know if that is possible.
I don't know if that's possible for any of these.
I don't know.
I'll say no.
I'm going to say, absolutely not.
There's none of those, but could one of these,
and we also just saw it with Phoenix,
which everybody thought was going to suck.
And that coaching change,
myself included, really transformed them.
That Jordan Nott did an amazing job.
So these are ones to really, like, keep an eye on because you could see.
High subside would be Orlando, wouldn't you say that?
Yeah, I think, yeah, I think Sweeney and Orlando, if he's good.
We don't know if he's going to be good as the head man.
He's obviously got a good track record as a great assistant,
but you never know until they get the big job.
They got players, they got talent.
That's a good one.
That's a good one.

Come up.
One of the things I loved about this off season
is that LeBron surprised everybody.
That's true.
Like, it was a surprise.
You know, I was doing,
I was producing game over
in the middle of the show,
Rich gets up from the chair,
in a now famous clip,
leaves to take a phone call,
comes back and he's like,
they just announced,
LeBron to the Sixers.
And I was just like,
I thought I was in a fever dream.
Yeah, that was great.
I'm watching the Zoom live.
I was just like, the Sixers?
That first Shams tweet, I was like, I checked it three times.
And it's like, if you're a Sixers fan, shout to Chris Ryan, Andy Greenwald.
You're like, and Ben Dietrich.
You're like, so traded Paul George's contract, added Jalen Brown,
LeBron James, Dean Wade, Anthony Simons, Phylon, who knows.
Yeah.
and we lost by Kelly Ubre and...
Not much.
Drummond?
Like...
Andre Drummond.
Like, that's a huge upgrade to a team.
Enormous offseason.
Beat the Celtics in the postseason.
And it looked like a team...
Think about those players you add it.
It would be...
And to even put it into more context,
the...
They look stuck because they had this awesome backcorp,
but they got this Paul George thing way in them.
that. It's like, they can't move Paul George.
Not only did they move,
but not only did they move Paul George, they moved
for the guy that got fifth in MVP.
Yeah, and I'm looking at all the reports.
It's like, well, the, like,
the Cleveland thing is done. The Miami
thing is done. The Warriors thing
is done. It's like, well,
Cremont's clutch and he always
didn't sign his contract. And
then it's like, well,
you know, James Harden didn't sign
his contract yet. Somebody's definitely going
to Cleveland. I was misled.
If you were to time
travel me back a couple of weeks and be like,
power rank the teams where you think LeBron is going,
I think I would probably have the Sixers at five.
Four.
For sure. It was fun.
And now I'm looking at this team being like,
I could see them winning the championship.
I could see it. I'm not going to predict it, but I could
see it. I'm not going to belabor this one either
because my third load
of the NBA
offseason is this whole Dunton.
story.
I just listened to
Very Your Odd Bill's podcast
and obviously I've been
reading this stuff.
I loathe so much that this guy
won the Stanley Cup
with the Carolina's hurricanes.
Like I really do.
Like the fact that he has proof of
the fact that he has proof of concept
is the worst thing ever
because this is just like
these are real people.
They're real people that work there
and like have loved that team
and have given their lives
and their fandom
them for that team. And so, like, whether it's the fan base or, frankly, the people that have
worked for Portland for so many years. And now this guy comes in and he's like, we're not paying
for this. We're not paying for that. And you're taking a huge pay cut. You're taking a huge
pay cut. And oh, yeah, by the way, make sure you print on both sides of the paper and like all
this stuff. And the fact that he can lay back be like, and it works. Look what I've done in Carolina.
It's like, oh, it's the worst. It's the worst.
Some people will live their entire life based on one success.
This reminds me of like the guy from counting grows that dated Jennifer Anston
and then dated every other hot actress in Hollywood.
It was like the Mr. Jones guy is like the hottest dude in Hollywood right now
because he had one success.
He had one success with the Panthers.
It was like, well, he knows how to do it.
Right.
Print on both sides of the paper.
He said that on Mitchet on your podcast.
Game over.
He said that.
I guess I should start
printing on both sides of the paper
because my time was getting low.
You probably fell asleep.
Listen to him
talk about his cost-cutting measures.
I'm going to move on
before I get in trouble.
So we do this podcast
twice a week during the regular season.
And around the trade deadline,
there was an obvious
like should the pistons
get marketing.
Should they make a move?
Should they get a second creator,
a second score?
Dennis Jenkins is great.
But like, you know,
Should they do something?
And I remember saying into this very microphone that this is an evaluation year for the Pistons
where they see in the postseason where their weaknesses are and then address those in the off season.
I load the fact that there has been a lot of data.
And I test stuff that we saw in the postseason that they clearly have some weaknesses and some things to address in the
offseason and none of it got addressed.
Let me present to you, Isaiah
Joe and John Collins
and a disgruntled
center who has not signed his
contract yet.
They're losing Tobias Harris,
who if you've watched any playoff games in the last
two years, was a huge part of what they did.
They did need shooting.
So, you know, Isaiah Joe can help
there. But I just feel like...
There was some article that came out of like,
a week ago saying Cade Cunningham tried to like basically recruit everybody and none of it worked.
Like he was out there trying to help him too.
They just didn't.
Do you remember the story from last offseason where Kate Cunningham and Jalen Dern
went to a cottage in the middle of nowhere and left their phones and just like vived for a week?
And that's why they had such a good on-court chemistry.
I like that.
Now the story from this offseason is Kate Cunningham has been blocked by every major star in the NBA.
Oh, stop.
Get text messages through.
I'll take you to a cottage.
But I'm telling you, man, like the, this team, like, you've got to remember how you felt in the moment.
Like, going into the playoffs, I was like, this is a championship contending team.
They're dangerous.
They're dangerous.
They're the number one seed in the east that includes the Knicks and the Celtics and all this.
Like, number one seed.
And now I look at them like, where were you power ranked them in the east right now?
I mean, assuming that they work something out with Jam.
I mean, that's how I started the show.
Who, again.
Who is their second best player?
And it's Jayland Dern, who is pissed.
Like every other day.
It's going to sign for less than he feel like he's worth.
And he's not going to be in a cottage with Kate Cunningham.
He's like, unless that cottage is full of dollar bills that make up with,
unless that cottage is full of aspiration contracts,
then I'm not going there.
It's probably made by trees cut down by aspiration.
My last love.
So in the absence of the NBA and,
and frankly NBA news,
I have found myself
a few different times
tuning in,
including on Sunday.
I tuned in
to watch the WNBA,
and I watched,
oh, Olivia Miles is my love.
Olivia Miles.
I knew it was going to be Olivia Miles.
I knew the second you said that in Sunnel,
I was like, I saw it too.
Okay, so let me just say,
number one, she's like Kyrie.
Bro, she is so fun to watch.
She is so fun to watch.
And beyond that, the hair
and the glasses.
It's just, it's the whole package.
And do you know she has,
there's fans of the links
that like I guess part of the fan base
that calls her this,
that we have lamented
in years past that like
the great nickname
has kind of gone by the wayside.
Right?
Like there's not as many great nicknames
as there used to be.
Bro,
there's a portion of their fan base
that calls,
call her, I would put up there with, it's one of the greatest nicknames I've ever heard in my life.
And I don't know why everybody has not caught on.
And it's just not a thing.
Do you know what they call her?
Do you even know, have you even heard it?
I guess they call her some other thing.
You know, somebody will call her Magic Miles or somebody will call her this, whatever.
No.
The spectacle.
Oh, my God.
Did he?
I mean.
Oh, my God.
With the glasses and her game, like the spectacle is one of the greatest nicknames I've ever heard in my life.
How is everybody not on board with like making her the spectacle?
Olivia Miles.
I do want to say that just minutes ago we mentioned beef stew.
So I just want to put that out there.
The nickname is not over, but like it has dried up a bit from years past and decades past.
But his name is stuarticle.
the spectacle with the spectacles,
it's just perfect.
The spectacle,
Olivia Miles.
I'm like, dude,
somebody should get so far behind this,
it's unbelievable.
Because as soon as I heard that,
I was like,
oh,
that is unbelievable.
It makes you so much cooler,
too.
And she is awesome.
God,
she's fun to watch.
She might win rookie of the year
and MVP, by the way.
which is very...
That's insane.
I mean, like,
I think two NBA guys have ever done it.
I think it was, uh,
it was wilt and...
Magic?
No.
No, Wes Unsells.
It's got to be old.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And, and, but they, like...
I just want to say about Wes Unseld,
he was Eurostepping.
It wasn't like,
Maine of Genoble invented this thing.
Like, it's not a Euros.
That Wes Unselled was Eurostepping through traffic in transition in, like,
1959 or whatever.
Also, great bar bet.
Wes Unseld
was on the last Washington Wizards team that won 50 games.
Washington Bullets team.
Washington Bullets team.
That seems absolutely impossible.
Just the idea that the league on a team called the Bullets is also impossible.
In D.C.
Yeah.
The spectacle is brilliant.
Yeah, so good.
what a great nickname.
It doesn't roll off the tongue, but it's kind of like the answer.
It's like, yeah, it's a little like, you can't really like say it that well.
You can't get the spectacle going to the lane, but like, no.
It's just like the answer, it'll stick in that way.
You say, you say she is the spectacle.
The spectacle, yeah, after she makes a bucket, when she's got an end one, she's walking to the line, yes.
With glasses.
And look, I mean, look, the NBA does not get behind, the WMBA does not get anything behind anything.
positive and cool, but they could.
The WIMBA
discourse, that's what I'd be like, time out, everybody, reset.
Like, you ever like go to your Instagram
and be like, reset my algorithm?
Like, I just want to reset the WMBA discourse
and be like, focus on basketball, please,
because there's good basketball being played here.
Can we do that?
God.
Oh, your last love.
Anyway, last love.
This story just, like, popped up.
There's a guy named Nikesh Aurora.
I don't know who he is.
He owns some cricket team in London,
got some people to get, some rich people doing rich people stuff.
But he's like, I got a billion dollars in this NBA Europe team.
And I was like, oh, yeah, NBA Europe.
Like, it was like a rumor.
And now they're trying to launch in like 2027, which is less than half a year away.
It says, it says right here.
I was shot when I read this.
It said like, oh, wait, the end quote,
the NBA has targeted the latter half of 2027 as the launch of the inaugural NBA Europe season.
Now, is it going to be great basketball?
ball. I don't know.
But like, I'm long on this
league. I think it'll take a decade
to build. It won't be like NFL
Europe. You're old enough to remember that. You're my age.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, that just flopped.
This is going to be, this is going to work.
And the quality of player you're going to get
early on is not good.
You're going to get, you know,
quitting cook. Remember him?
Oh, no, they're getting good players because they're
trying to take over. They're going to get good guys.
But like, you're going to get
trying to change it.
International basketball.
Yeah.
But I think over time, I am very bullish on NBA Europe.
And I think that like literally right now in the summertime in the off season that will be like,
hey, guess what?
It's London against Barcelona tonight.
I'll tune into that.
You know what I mean?
Yep.
I'm with it.
Why not?
And I don't think it'll happen overnight.
I think it'll happen in 2036 when we're on the mismatch.
And I'm still in a closet surrounded by massage parlors who I saw some clients coming out of
today.
we'll be like, oh, we'll be doing NBA Europe game recounts.
Recaps.
My last loathe.
All right.
This is nothing to do with the NBA.
But it does have to do.
My last load has nothing to do with the NBA either.
I'm so excited to hear this.
It does have to do with the fact that we are in the offseason.
Because this was about the NBA off season.
How ridiculously out of it I am on TV and movies.
So it doesn't show up until everything dies.
down. And I do watch like Cardinal
baseball games like during this, whatever.
But I just told you I was watching the WMBA
over the weekend. I watch that golf tournament.
Like I just, I pretty much
just watch sports. That's all I really
watch. And then I'll like, if I've
got downtime, I'll flip on something on Netflix
or whatever. But then when we
get to the offseason, everybody starts talking
about all the movies and they start talking
about like there'll be a podcast about
obsession and then there'll be a podcast
about this. You didn't see obsession?
Bro, I
listened, they're on my, on, on, on, on a grind city media, the show before me today had two guys
ranking the 11 Spider-Man movies.
I've never-
I saw Spider-Man over the weekend.
I've never seen any of them.
Oh my God.
Ferno.
I feel bad about that one.
I feel bad about that one.
Like, I'll give you an example.
I watch that Idaho murders thing on Netflix.
Oh, hell yeah.
I didn't watch-in-in-in-in-there.
They're like, hey, maybe someone else did.
it, but at the end, spoiler alert, same guy you thought did it, did it.
Yeah.
Well, I watched Toxic Love Story today.
You haven't seen that?
Okay, yeah, no, but I was told to.
So I do watch, like, some of the true crime stuff, whatever,
but it doesn't happen to me until I get to the offseason where everybody's talking
about movies and TV, and I'm like, oh, God, I just don't even know what you're talking
about.
Like, I don't watch.
And then it feels too daunting.
Yeah.
People are like, you need to get it.
to this show, it's in its fourth season.
I'm like, so you have to watch 30 hours of television
before I catch up to you guys.
Like, no.
You know what I'm big on right now, bro?
I'm a House of the Dragon fiend.
I listen to the Midnight Boys talk about it.
I listen to Talk the Thrones talk about it.
I listen to Concepcion and the original podcast.
I watch an hour show and listen to like six hours of podcasts about it afterwards.
You know what?
That was one of my...
The thing I did last summer is I went through
when I watched all the white lotuses.
And then I went back and listened to all the podcasts.
And I did quite enjoy that.
I liked doing that.
They're filming in season four right now.
That was the one.
On Carter got sent home from France.
That was the one I did watch.
I did watch that one last summer.
But even now, like I just feel like I don't even know what to choose.
I just, I always look stuff up.
And then I'm like, yeah, I don't, I'm so far behind.
I can't.
Sometimes it's like some big buzzy show that everyone's talking about.
You watch the first episode.
You're like, I don't, I don't see it.
I will say, I will say this.
I've been to the theater twice this summer, which is good.
Because I rarely, I've seen Toy Story 5 and the Odyssey, which are two good ones to go, right?
That's pretty good.
I got an Odyssey story very quick.
Uh-oh.
I bought tickets like six weeks ago to the Lincoln Square.
place with the 70 millimeters, the place where I saw the premiere, the big theater with the,
I'm just like Christopher Nolan designed this theater for this movie.
I bought tickets from my son and I, six weeks before the movie came out.
It was on Thursday, July 30th at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 29th, I opened up my app.
The tickets were Tuesday, July 28th.
No.
And my son was right there.
and I had to tell him
that they were for yesterday
and he hadn't seen it.
Oh, this is a origin story.
It really is.
Oh, my God.
And then he lost his mind.
So I bought tickets to Alamo Draft House,
which is a great theater,
2 p.m. on Thursday.
Great theater, had a great time,
great seats, great screen, great, everything.
The app, however, if you want to order something,
I was getting a Coke Zero, a beer, and nachos.
Right?
And the user interface is add items.
It doesn't say checkout.
It says add items.
So clicking that, didn't add the items.
I'm going back, click on it again.
I'm not checking out yet.
I'm not, no checkout button.
All right.
Next thing you know, someone shows up with three beers and three Coke zeros and three
nachos.
And then five minutes later, someone else shows up with one beer, one Coke zero, and one
nachos.
No.
And then five minutes later, someone else shows up.
with one beer, one Coke zero, and one nachos.
And finally, I was like,
I'm not paying $1,000 to watch this fucking movie.
I went back on the not drinking six beers in three hours in a movie theater.
I love it.
A frat party.
So I had to go back and be like, I'll drink two beers,
we'll have two Coke zeros and one nottoe.
And the people that worked there were so cool.
They were like, yeah, we get it.
It happens all the time.
So I gave them $40.
They took like $120 off my bill.
And everybody ended up happy.
They actually gave me some free stuff, to be honest with it.
But it was just too much.
It's like, my dumb ass thought ad items made, like, add items to the cart.
And every five minutes, someone's walking down in the middle of an important movie with another beer and another Coke Zero and another nachos.
I was just like, oh, my God.
They're like, these guys are going through it.
Yeah.
And my son is just like, how many beers did you order?
I'm like, I didn't order five beers for a movie.
I don't want to have like two.
It's a three-hour movie.
Ad item.
I like an item.
Oh, God.
Because you just add items.
means to the cart and then you check out from the cart.
If you go to Alamo Draft House, I don't know.
This means Adams.
All right, last one for me.
Are you thumbs up on the Spider-Man?
It wasn't.
Like, it's not like an Odyssey experience where it's like, wow, that movie changed my life.
It's a good movie.
I enjoyed it.
The night before, because I'm not, like you, like I don't like nerd out over like
Avengers movies.
So the night before I watched the previous Spider-Man movie, this one was much better
than the previous Spider-Man movie, which I hadn't seen before.
I have watched all the Batman.
I've watched all those.
I haven't seen the Robert
I haven't seen the Robert Patton's and Batman
I've tried on two planes
and fell asleep each time
Dude it's good
I love Zoe Kravitz too
It's dark
It's literally dark
Like I felt it is
It is dark
Yeah but it's kind of
It's different
That one's different
But I did like it
Just a same
I'm gonna watch that one
Yeah
All right
It's long as hell
It's like
My final load bro
I'm gonna get on the therapy couch again
If you don't mind
Go ahead
So you ever like book travel?
Let me get my Wimbab and you're a cigarette.
Yeah, get that, get that.
I'm going to make this as short as I can.
You know when you book travel and you're like,
yeah,
the flight out is so important,
but the flight back,
you're like,
oh, like 6 a.m.
that'll be fine, whatever.
And then when that day comes,
like I can't believe I agreed
to a 6 a.m. flight back from a bachelor party.
You know what I mean?
Like,
it's just like the pre-planning.
Like the thing that happens tomorrow is so important,
but the thing that happens in like four or five days
is not important.
I'm that way.
Like,
I'm like a shark.
I can only see like a week in front of me.
And in February, my wife is like,
Quincy always wanted to go on this trip in an RV.
We're going to go to L.A. for a week,
catch up with some family and friends.
And then we're going to drive to Denver in an RV.
We're going to rent in Los Angeles.
We're going to go to like some canyons and Grand Canyon.
And it's like hit the Southwest in Route 66.
It's the 100 year anniversary of Route 66.
I'm like, how much is it?
She's like this much.
I'm like, all right, let's do it.
That was February.
It's like snowing out.
It's happening in like two weeks.
You're doing that.
The LA stuff I can do.
But imagine me driving for five and a half hours
through a desert in an RV with four kids and my wife.
And then sleeping on the ground in a tent and doing it the next day.
To go look at the Grand Canyon, I like to do stuff.
I don't like to look at stuff.
Like I looked at the Washington Monument.
I'm like, yeah, it's like the fucking pictures.
I can move on in 30 seconds.
The Grand Canyon
I've been to before.
It's like, yeah, there it is.
It's huge.
Looks like the pictures.
It's a big old canyon.
Let me get a selfie in front of it and move on.
It's a 45-second experience for me.
Like, the idea that I agreed to this,
and now that it's coming up,
is absolutely insane.
And then before that, here's the kicker.
Are they excited about it?
They're excited.
Oh, very excited.
Okay.
And then tomorrow, you're listening to on Tuesday, Wednesday.
Dad, Dad has a bad attitude about it.
Oh, Wednesday, you're listening to this on Tuesday.
Wednesday, my wife flies to Europe to hang out with their friends for two weeks.
So I've got three of the four kids by myself for two weeks.
And then I fly with three of the four kids to Los Angeles where she meets us.
Oh, no.
So I'm single dadding for three weeks.
Oh.
And then driving like a chauffeur through a desert for five days.
that's my summer vacation.
And it's all my fault.
I don't even have anybody to blame.
I agreed to this willingly.
This was presented to me in February.
And I'm like, yeah, done, no problem.
And now that it's here, I'm just like,
were you drunk or in bed?
No, I just think like plead insanity.
I need to plead insanity.
No, when this was agreed to.
I just don't care.
I'm not drunk or in bed.
I'm just like, whatever.
That makes you happy cool.
because it's literally five months away.
You've already been, you figured it would just pass.
It would pass.
Yeah, I'm like, I'm watching a next game being like,
I got to take notes because I've got to talk to Verdo about this tonight.
There's no way this actually gets planned.
I have no foresight.
I just have no, this is a me problem.
It's not a her problem or my family problem.
I did this to myself, but I agreed to this,
and I'm single parent of three children for two weeks.
And then I take those three kids,
including a one and a half year old, fly to Los Angeles.
Six-hour flight and then drive six hours a day around the southwest so we can look at fucking canyon.
It's going to be.
And obviously we're going to tan on the ground.
No, you're going to make unbelievable memories.
That's what's going to happen to Kobe.
I spoke with Joe House earlier today about this.
You're going to remember this forever.
And he said, he's like, what are you doing?
I would never do that.
I was like, the kids won't remember it.
What a great friend.
No, he's honest.
This is a terrible, terrible situation.
If my wife doesn't listen to mismatch,
she's never going to listen to this.
This is disgusting what I've done to myself.
No, I don't understand how this was ever agreed to.
I pay money for this.
We went to like the Bahamas to like a resort with a casino
and a water park two years ago.
Now we're like,
I'm driving around in the desert running out of gas and an RV.
Here's the problem.
You can't, you got to find like a,
you got to find a therapist like that ain't got kids
because you can't be talking to me in House about this stuff
because we got kids and it's like,
no, that ain't it.
Jacoby.
That ain't it.
I talked to House today.
He was like, no.
He was like, don't do it.
I'm like, bro, you have no idea.
I'm so pot committed right now.
This is happening.
And the worst part, and you know this feeling too,
the worst part is being dad that's pissed off.
Everybody else is fine, but dead's pissed off.
Everyone's happy.
Everybody's happy, but dad's pissed off.
I've been there.
I'm just going to fake it.
It's terrible.
I'm going to have a fake smile on.
This is all.
I'm going to cry now.
End the show.
It sucks.
In the show.
Oh, see you next week.
This is a mismatch.
Thanks to Jesse.
Come on, do your thing.
Thank you to Jeff.
Jesse.
Steph, everybody that helps with the show.
Jacobi, I'm sorry.
We'll be back next week.
Oh, my God.
Maybe.
