I thought I was really, I had my fingers crossed that you were going to be broadcasting from an RV tonight. Isn't this the RV trip week, no? Bro, let me tell you something. I got here on Saturday.

We're recording this Monday night. Every second of the last 48 hours has been disastrous with my family. Every single member of the family hates each other. other every single one. There's like 17, because it's exponential when you have six people in the family. The baby's sick. So everybody hates her. She hates everybody.

Everybody else. So we haven't even gotten to RV week yet. And it's a disaster. No, RV week is next week. It's a disaster already. The Jacoby family trip is off to a horrible start. It can only get worse or better. Oh, my God.

I now I understand why you've been at that studio for three hours. I might stop the RV and just get out and just walk away. Just like you guys figured out. I said, I said, Hey man, we're recording at night. You're like,

I'm already at the studio. I was like, oh boy. I got a prep for the show. I take the show very seriously. Got a prep. Oh, yeah.

All right. We have had news since we last spoke. So we've got some former stars that are now moving places first. Clay Thompson is going to be playing with the Miami Heat along with Janus down in Miami. Two years, $11.5 million, got a buyout with the Dallas Mavericks. Do we like to fit for Clay Thompson in Miami?

Once upon a time, seemed like maybe he could be the Ray Allen role on that old Miami Heat team. Maybe that was the portion of his career he's going into. I guess he'll have a chance in that uniform. I love the price if I'm the heat. And I love the role if I'm Clay Thompson. This is a win-win from everybody.

You know, I think that he's signed up to go to the Mavs to, you know, hit corner threes and winged threes that Luke Kodans just handed him. You know what I mean? And obviously we know what happened from there. So I feel like this is a win-win for everybody. I do like the fit in that sense. You know, I always wonder, like, how much did he get in the buyout? He's willing to take this.

And I looked up his stats. Like he shot 39% almost from three last year. He's going to be able to hit threes until he's 90 years old. If Bam and Janus are on the court at the same time, you're going to need some shooting. Oh, yeah. And especially, like, I mean, they got some, they got some Bobby Portis is there.

Also, uh, Tim Hardaway Jr. can knock down threes. Hell yeah. And space the floor, right? Like, I mean, so it's, so it would be, this is just drive and kick to old guys that can knock down open three. Yeah. It's just they shot at three they can get back on defense in time.

They've got like, I think it's, the numbers I don't have in front of you. I saw some stat. It was like they got like four guys and have shot 40%. Yeah. Super slow time of the year. So we are going to take on as much news as we possibly can one by one by one by one. The next one, DeMardo Rosen to Denver. I don't think this quelled any kind of upset feelings that a Nuggets fan would have

about losing Peyton Watson. But it did kind of come back to back. It was like, here's the Peyton Watson five team trade. And then like a day later, it was like, Oh, yeah, we shot Demard de Rosen's one year $3.5 million. And DeMarre Rosen, again, another guy, you can still get a bucket. I just don't know how this really fits with the Yokic spacing. Yeah, all right.

Let me ask you a follow-up question of that. Jamar de Rosen can definitely get a bucket. He's 18.4 points per game last season. But how does DeMarre de Rosen get those buckets? I mean, usually he's a mid-range assassin. And he dribbled it a couple times. He caught it. He works his man.

and he gets a pull up and he hits it. I mean, he's got this best true shooting of his career last year. I just don't know how that works in a Denver offense. He may. Now, the other thing is he's been on these rat Sacramento teams. So if he's still got juice left, you might get the better and best version of him. He has now played with a lot of different players

in a lot of different scenarios and systems. So I am more, I lean more towards the, especially the older player that is still wanting to play can adjust. And he'll figure out how to be effective with Denver. And the price, I mean, this is nothing. It's really what is, it's value. This is like, when I, a lot of stores I go to,

rag and bone is an example, right? I like their clothing. When I walk in that store, I find the first person I can find that works there. And I asked them if they work there because I've made the mistake before. So I asked them if they worked there. And I say, where is the sale rack? And I go to the sale rack and that's the only place I shop.

Because everything else is just too expensive. There's no value. And I feel like at this price, to Marjor Rosen, at $3.9 million is much better value than Peyton Watson at 20 whatever. Well, and also you just need to have a release valve for the other two. You know, that's where they really missed the Porter thing last year. Obviously, Gordon had his, you know, his injury problems or whatever. But it's like you got to have another guy that can go get you a reliable bucket.

And in the absence of Michael Porter Jr., you know, there's so much that it just put on it's, it's Murray Yokich, Murray Yokich. Okay, who's the other guy that can get me a bucket? I'm at least confident that DeRosen's the kind of guy that is another guy that can get you a bucket if you need it. I mean, how many games, more regular season than playoffs, have you seen the Murray Yokic pick and roll just absolutely sing in the first half? And the coach is going and then they make adjustments to have to like, we're throwing four people at this thing. And then that's when it's going to be like, all right, tomorrow, you're going to have seven feet of sit base when you catch the ball.

You're not going to shoot a three because you're not good at it. But you can get yourself a mid-range facing that space in your abilities. I can see that one working out, honestly. I could see Demard de Rose it being better than what. I think people's expectation is so low about what, you know, what his fit is there. And obviously the bigger story is, are they giving Yokic a chance to win during these prime years,

which is a story that goes, it's going to go on everywhere. I mean, it feels like all of these teams have a very finite window to be able to, you know, achieve the highest levels. And then they end up having to pay everybody and then we move on. And now it's just hard, it's hard. I think a lot of the blame has people point at the front office in the move they made, but really it comes down to sort of like health and fit. and we all thought that Cam Johnson would fit better.

Like put yourself a year ago today. Didn't you think Cam Johnson would fit better than he did last season? And Aaron Gordon, like, when he is healthy, like that Murray Yokch pick and roll with him in the dunker spot, we've seen it be successful for year after year for year. He's wasn't available. Outstanding player who is a perfect fit with them and was not available. You're right. The wolves had an ownership change.

I mean, this has been the weirdest summer. And when that one came down, I was like, what? What is going on? Mark Stad, who is buying into the timber wolves as the majority owner and is buying Mark Luray's stake in the team. Mark Lurie, who is now going to focus on his own company while still holding a minority stake. A-Rod is bumping up his stake in the team. But this guy is going to be the majority owner of both the wolves and the links. And the links are like the best team in the WNBA.

And the wolves, you know, have Anthony Edwards and have now Lamello Ball on their team. When this came down, the first thing was the Lakers just went for 12.5. And this one was just valued at 4.5. So that's pretty big golf between those. But more importantly, you know, I was covering the. Grizzly's Wolves playoff series a couple of years back when all that Glenn Taylor crap was going down. And Jonathan Krasinski was covering it.

And, you know, Lori and Arod were at the games, but Glenn Taylor was at the games. And then Glenn Taylor tried to get, you know, ended up taking them like there was lawsuits and arbitration and all this stuff that will try to do anything he could to get out of that deal that he had signed with them to sell the team. team when he finally found a buyer, finally sold the team, and then valuations of these teams went to the moon and he was like, no, no, no, no, no, no. I went back and looked to Kobe. That deal, which ended up being constituted in June of 2025, okay?

Wow. So that is a little over a year ago. It was the first headline. I mean, it took like three or four years. It, 1.5 billion. But just imagine wrestling this thing for, what is it, three years? And then a year later being like, yeah, I'm out. Well, it's another crazy flip.

Like, we were used to flip this house. Like, this is flip this NBA team. The guy got in for a 1.5 valuation. And a year later is like, all right, you know what? I still have a part in it because it's fun, but like, nah, I'll go ahead and sell my part at a $4.5 billion valuation.

There's a, I mean, sometimes I was talking to a friend of mine, shout to Dietrich. And I was like, the last few weeks I've been talking about sovereign funds and public equity and sort of insurance companies. And I invested $2 billion into myself

and only declare that, but I actually, it's like, you know what I enjoy basketball? I like basketball. It's just like, you know what? Let's just move on.

If you want, this isn't the financial times. This is the mismatch. Well, okay. Okay, all right, hold on. I'm just going to spin this into. The reason this matters for basketball is because what we talked about with Dan Wojke with the Lakers, you're seeing it now with Portland. And then this is the great unknown with what this guy is going to be in Minnesota.

Is this the guy that's like, I don't care about the tax? I'm trying to win it all costs because it did seem like Lori. And Arod, you know, this is why they moved off of towns. This is why the Keel Alexander Walker left or whatever. They were attempting to be much more fiscally responsible and not be paying out. And so we'll see what kind of owner this guy is. But honestly, it may determine whether or not we ever see Anthony Edwards in a finals or not. Yeah.

And we'll talk about Lamello later. But what they did say is that Tim Connolly's saying, Matt Lloyd's staying, Chris Fincher staying, right? And one thing I found interesting is, is where is it? Stad's wife, Elisa Stad, is expected to become the Timberwolves governor. I don't know what that means, but shot to her. I mean, she's the most powerful person of the organization. This is the genie Bus role. Yeah, good for her.

I know nothing about her. Here's a basketball story. Horrible news for the Port of the Trailblazers, the aforementioned, with losing Shaden Sharp for six months. Like, nothing is worse than. losing a player for six months in August. Yeah, of course. Like, I mean, you didn't even,

you didn't even get to start the season and you find out one of your best players is out for six months? You know. We haven't even gotten a training camp. If you've been paying attention to Shane and Sharp, he's a very athletic, high ceiling potential player. And like,

even this deep in his career, which is what, three or four years, it's like, I still can see him sort of putting it together. Oh, yeah. I can see him taking a leap.

And I feel like this is one of those, it's been that way. for a couple years, but it feels like if he just put it together for a year, he's a big contractor, a big good situation waiting for him, and this setback will set that back even further. You know what I mean? That's the part. It's not just getting hurt.

That's awful for any basketball player, but it's someone in sort of a pivotal point in their career that they have something to prove, it's even worse. Also, at best, a team that is more than likely trying to compete for a play-in spot. like they are certainly yeah and and and this is a major blow i mean dame jah and drew are there so it's not like some like huge hole that need to fill in the roster rotation but i like the i just there are moments last year when he well and scoot though i mean it is a mess it's all you're gonna have to they're gonna have to flip one of these guys and get some wings there now because if you know

that is the one shy you know i guess silver lining is when a stuff like this happens you you you can at least address it, right? You get into the season, it's like, okay, we're not going to have a small forward for six months. We better figure this out because Jeremy Grant's now with the Grizzlies too and Chaden Sharp's now out for six months. So it's like, I'm just saying they don't have like, I'm laughing because I'm wondering what percentage of our audience is just like,

wait, Jeremy Grants with the Grizzlies? Yeah, well, and Matisse, Matisse Dibel's a Laker. I love Matisse Dival. I'm saying they don't have, like, that's a lot of Camara. I love Kamara. And a bunch of little guards. But you give it to Shane Sharp for seven seconds left

and the shot clock is different to give me it to Kamara. You know what? He should just do the, look, the guy's on a one-year contract anyway, who gives a shit? Do the old Jay Wright-Villanova four-guard thing.

You know, Scotty Reynolds and Alan Ray and that crew, just go scoot, Drew, jaw, dame, time lord. And just, it changed the league.

No, I'm saying this year, like he's, he's like a mismatch listener name now, but I think this year, Mike Gnori. Yeah, he'll go viral a couple times and they'll catch, they'll catch the eye of the executives. And if it really does go south, he doesn't get another deal, he'll be, he'll be right on that Amazon desk. Yeah. I mean, yeah, they put on, uh, what does the ESPN put on,

what's the guy's name? Michael Malone. No, no, no, no, they flamed out with the jet. The Belich guy. Oh, what was his name? Eric, uh, Eric. Eric something. What was that guy's name? Man genius? No. Who are you talking about? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Man genius.

Yeah, he's now on Fox Sports on First News First with our friends, Nick Wright and Chris Bussard, Kevin Wilds. I'm saying they put him on like right. I mean, he's just with the Jets, right? But I mean, like we all knew about him. And it was like, yeah, yeah, but I mean, did not go back to the NBA or good to go back to the NFL, right? He just ended up becoming a broadcaster as well.

Kind of a gruff guy, just like this Mike Anori, right? Like kind of a matter of fact. kind of individual. All right, got a bunch of stuff to get to. Players that we are most looking forward to seeing

in a new uniform. So we're breaking this down. We're each going to pick a star, a role player, a one star, and I still believe in them, player. I just want to set this up

for our audience and on our text between Verno and Jacobi, I said to him, I was like, we have stacked a 90-minute show. But we have to make this a 45-minute show.

So this is going to be a fast-paced, cover-a-lot-of-ground move. Yes. Okay. I'm not, you know where I'm at. He's warning,

he's warning me. This is, this is him warning me, folks. No, I said that. He said, like, let's do this quickly. And I said,

I can do it, can you do it? And you don't believe in me, man. I do believe in you. You're a veteran broadcaster. You don't believe in me, bro. You've been broadcasting for 55 years.

I just, I just want you to believe in me, bro. I can do this. The answer is Yonis. And if you have a different answer, you're wrong. Yeah,

we, I've only ever seen Janice playing for Milwaukee in a bucks uniform. Janice with the heat now. And if the indication is that since the beginning of time, if you have a top five player on your team, you've got a chance to win at the absolute highest level. We all know his supporting cast stunk in Milwaukee the last couple of years. This supporting cast is underrated.

This is supporting. If people have devalued this supporting cast that he's going to have in Miami. And I do think he'll be he can win. And I think he will quickly remind people that when you've got one of the five best players in the world, you've got a chance. Yes, and I think that

I believe in, I won't say heat culture. I believe in the infrastructure in the front office. I believe in Spolstra. They figured out a lot of puzzles in the past. And this is a puzzle figure out, especially when you have it's aforementioned BAM and Yon's on the floor. But there are guys in the rotation that can hit catch a two threes,

plenty of them. And, you know, and I love Offnight and I didn't pick Janus because I knew you would pick Janus and I knew you would go first. This is a gentleman that I picked. The star I'm most excited to see in a different uniform. It's someone that I've loved two years before, three years before he was drafted.

It's obviously lamello ball for me. Because listen, I mean, he just, when you see that LaBello Ball is playing on league pass, It's hard for me to not click on it. It's just hard. I love watching him play basketball. Is he the most efficient player? Does he make the best decisions?

Do I want him on my team? Is he, if I'm a coach, do I want to play it for me? I don't know on all of those. But as a fan watching my television on my couch, I love watching it. And something about the duo of him and Anthony Edwards is just so enticing to me that I see that Timberwolves logo, clicking on.

also the amount of times that they will you know as my daughter says epic eye roll they will epic eye roll rudy gobert like both of them just like i mean it's just going to be memes and and and lamello's going to hit him literally in the nose with the ball oh back of the head nose chest everywhere it's going to be amazing highlight don't be best even that because i think that might figure it out i just want to see like the first two scrimmages in training camp. Scotia Bank. You're richer than you think. Role player. I went Lou Dort. Again, I don't know. I don't know Lou Dort without a Oklahoma City Thunder uniform on. But I think we learned from last year that guys like Lou Dort, they can really, they can change cultures.

You saw it with Dylan Brooks in Phoenix last year and he got an immense amount of credit for that. I think Dort is these try hard guys that like lunch pale, bring it every night. I think it permeates your entire roster. I think it permeates the guys that are on the floor. It's the same place. It's no different in basketball that it is in a workplace, right? If one guy is going all out and it matters that much to him,

you're either going to reach his level or you're going to feel stupid for not reaching his level. And so I am just so used to him being this intense irritant for Oklahoma City. I am fascinated to see it in a different conference. And that team has got a lot of talent on it. That Atlanta team, they've got a bunch of good players. And if they turn into the try hard team to go along with the talent they have, I could see them surprising people and being better than maybe even what the expectation is.

I'm very upset with them right now because why? That answer is so much better than anything I even considered. Plus I did it in 30 seconds. This is not competitive. We're not trying to win this or whatever. I just want to say that like you have it was like it's like I ordered the steak and the guy next me was like yeah I'll have a bigger steak with a lobster tail and the shrimps can't be on the side and the cream smith.

I'm just like whoa, I didn't even think about that. That was even on my radar. That's a great answer. Thank you. Is Payton Watson a role player? I think so. He is. Yeah.

He's the guy I got in my in my five star notebook right under Lou Dord. I have circled Watson in case you took Lou Dord. So this is a good answer. Yeah, because I was like, is he a role player? The thing is, like, he's truly a role player. Like, there are, like, people that are, like, they are big NBA fans don't know who he is because he didn't get that much burn with the Nuggets.

We all know that he had that hot streak when there was injuries around him. And if, if he could harness, he's not going to be asked to do much on this team. It's not like, there are certain sort of like, you did good in your. your role at Team X and now we're going to pay you more to play at Team Y but we expect more from you. There are plenty of guys that will be handling the ball on that team and he's going to be asked to be a similar sort of spark plug off the bench defensive duct tape, I'll call it. Defensive duct tape because there are some defensive questions on his team and I think that he's going to really shine in this role and I'm a big Peyton Watson fan and have been for years.

Also highlights. Also highlights. Also, I'm going to help you out. I'm going to help you out. I'm going to help you out a little bit here. Also, the thing I like about the Watson deal, and this is why I wrote him down, is because in this bizarre way with Cleveland, you could even go back to the J.B. Bickersstaff Cleveland before they got Kenny Atkinson. They were looking for the three.

It's the one position. They're looking for the three. Like it was Isaac O'Coro. Then they tried D'Andre Hunter. Then they tried the assembly line of White House. The way guys, the morals. It was Wade, Ty Jerome,

Yeah, Strux, and it's like, Charis Levert. I'm still not confident calling him a white guy. There's something going on.

His 23 and me is not coming up pure white. Karis Levert, they even tried out there, you know, coming off the bat. Like, it was like they just could never get that right.

It was like, hey, we got these two guards and we got these two bigs. Bro, it's one position. How can you? How can you never get anybody good enough?

I've said this before, but I remember listening to you and KOC like seven years ago talking about this. Maybe five years ago. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's a caro. It's like if he could hit a quarter three, they're going to be a totally different team. And that, Ben Watson's perfect for that. Like, there's no shortage of ball hand. What did you think about the little, did you see the little mini controversy going on where it was on the show that you produce with Rich Paul, where all the headlines then came from that?

that pod was like, Rich Paul and Kurt Paine wants it to sit out so he can get a contract. I encourage everyone who saw a tweet or an Instagram caption or something on TikTok to listen to that episode and listen to what Rich Paul actually said. Right. Yeah. And that's exactly. Sometimes you've got to protect guys from themselves. But that's also part of the part that was clipped.

But it's like the whole thing was just, it was a very measured sort of like, it's sort of my job to not let players go out there and make bad decisions for their career. You know what I mean? And that's exactly what you want an agent to do if you're a player or a family of a player or a loved one, a player. Like, the headline is a lot more scandalous and salacious than the actual statement that Rich made. And listen to a game over on Spotify.

The once star. Okay. So the easy one for me to say is John Morant, but I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. You can say 7,000 of them you'll never get to mine. You get picked out of them. Go ahead. All right. I'm not going to do Moran.

That's true. Yeah, yeah. You know what I wrote down for this? Because there's a bunch of guys, right, like that are boops, spots that are going to be that were once, you know, stars that are going. I did Paul George. Oh, God. I think, I think there's more on. Paul George is going to be.

so much more spotlighted in terms of everybody knowing whatever he's doing, then he should be at this point. But because he got traded for Jalen Brown, he like has to be awesome. And he can't just be, he can't just like, usually at this point in your career, you can become like one of the guys, right?

But now the expectation is like, you know, bro, you're not one of the, the guy's like, you got to be like, you got to be good. Like every night, you got to be good because the other guy was just fifth in MVP voting and the other guy was beloved and the other guy was great and the guy played every night. So now, like, if Paul, all I'll just say is this, Paul George is fascinating because it's, if he's not good, that town is going to eat him alive.

It's going to, it's going to get bad. it's going to get yes it is it's going to get bad they were going to be on that frigging radio every day and i mean because you're just not going to be able to you're going to succumb to it because it's just going to the whole story is just going to be jela brow jela brow i'll agree with you i'll agree with you is here if he is active and available and playing big minutes and terrible sure but i think if this goes bad it's because he's just not available i believe i believe in like a healthy Paul George. I think the bet I think the

the pivot of him being good or bad is more availability in health than it is sort of like performance on the court because in the playoffs he performed. And again, it's not his fault he got traded for Jalen Brown. But bro, when you get traded for that guy. Just one for the previous A1 team on the back

MVP candidate. Yes. You can't be like the fourth last. You know what I mean? like Richard to Tatum. You can't just fall into the background. Can't stay in the corner. You can't just fall into the background.

And so that's either going to go one way or another. But here's what we know. It's not just going to be, it's either going to be good and he's going to be fine. And they're going to win a bunch of games. And he's going to be a really good player playing alongside Tatum. But my God, if it's not good, it's going to get bad fast.

There are so many candidates before the person I'm about to say. Obviously, Clay Thompson, to Rosen, Levine. It's just, there's a laundry list of guys, but do you know who I'm saying? Say Chris Middleton. I love Chris Middleton. He's a wizard, isn't he? Is he a wizard? Where is he now?

No, my guy is a wizard. Oh, your guy's a wizard. DeAndre Aighton. Oh, bro. Andre Aiton. Oh, no, no. I'm going to bend the rules a bit. I'm not excited to see him.

Two years ago, I did not think the Pacers would be in the finals. A year and a half ago, I didn't think the Pacers would be in the finals.

So it's like, it's not always the obvious teams. I didn't think the year ago, I didn't think the Pissons would be the number one seed. And could you see a world in which this Cleveland thing works? Here's my problem with Cleveland. And again, I love the Peyton Watson acquisition. Harton, Mitchell Hardin, Watson, Mobley, Allen. That's a lot for a 36-year-old that you're counting on with Hardin. You could pay them during the regular season, and all those guys are playing 37 minutes in the playoffs.

I don't like, I do not like their depth anymore at all. It's just gotten pilfered. Like, it is a good starting five. What about my guy, Tomlin? What about my guy Tomlin? But you look at, that's a Memphis guy. Jaylin. I mean, again, it's just not good enough.

Yeah, I know. It's not good enough. And, you know, I'm like, Philly's got guys that come off the bench for them. It can, like, really contribute. And Indiana's going to have guys that come off the bench for them and, like, can really contribute. And, like, I think there is a thing with this depth now. And because you can't lose anybody. And it's like, that's, I think. They're all pretty available players. Like, over the course of their career, those five guys. are pretty available. Pretty available. Yeah. But again, you're, I know, but you're like, but you're one away because they just,

I just don't. It gets bleak after you get through that starting five. It's not good. I don't think their bench is good enough. I could see, I could see like the pace of two years ago. They don't impress that much in the regular season to availability and lack of depth, as you mentioned.

But like when it cuts down to like a seven-half person rotation and everyone's minutes go up and if it starts clicking, you know, they're just working hard and in last year. I'm just saying, like, I'm not picking them to win the East, but I would think the Pacers were going to win the East two years ago. I wouldn't think the Knicks were going to win the East last year. And so it's not always who you think it is.

It is not always who you think it is, but I will never trust James Harden, ever. I always think about that. And I think about those 19 mysteries. I'm like, man, like, what if they make two of those, how does that change? Small move, big results. Hmm. Mine is stupid for this one. Or is he a guy? Because you go back and look the last two years. He has played 21 minutes a game. He has averaged 11 points a game. And he was not far off from 50, 40, 90. He was 46% from the field, 42% from 3, and 89% free throw shooter. And that's in 21 minutes and 11 points a game. And it's like, all right.

Well, now he gets a way bigger role in Detroit. On a team that needs a chance at Joe. Right? Like, we're going to find out. I'm at least holding out. Like, what if he is a guy that, like, just because of the circumstances, he was playing 21 minutes because they got too many good players, right? They got Kassan Wallace and they got killed his out Tanner and they got Thornt and they got

Aaron Wiggins. Aaron Wiggins might be another one in Atlanta. We might find out that. those guys, what if they did get like starters minutes? Are they like, does that production remain the same? Because those, like the shooting numbers are the shooting numbers. That's a lot. I mean, you shoot 42% from three.

It is interesting because the opposite is true for like Miami Heat players. You know what I mean? They're in that system and they leave the system and all of a sudden the production just goes straight down. Not everyone given a bigger opportunity can continue the same results, especially in a new system. Totally fair. That was also the Spurs guy.
