To the mismatch, I'm Chris Vernon. And joining me to us every week from the ringer.com is Dave Jocobie. Jacoby. Verno, I think we have to start with James Hart. All right. So I don't want to. Why not? Because we just got done watching Thunderlakers.

We got two games that went on tonight, and both of them ended with 2-0 in the series. And I'll let you do your hard. bit. No, I don't have a heartened bit. We can start wherever you want to start, buddy. I got really irritated about Cade and the Pistons, taking them down to Zip, and all anybody is talking about is James Hardin and Evan Mobley's $50 million contract and the shame that is the Cleveland Cavaliers. When will the disrespect end? Oh, we're back. I'm No, Virgil the Pistons guy is back. I've been beating this Pistons drum for months.

And now they're two games away from the Eastern Conference Finals. And the story is James Hardin? I refuse. Look, James Hardin has been doing this for 20 years. The idea that someone acquired Dame James Hardin to get them to the next level. In the postseason. It's truly unbelievable. It is if they do not have, it's like all tapes have been burned.

Like, you know, we know what happens. Yeah. We know what happened. As soon as you get to this level, you're going to be disappointed. That's what happens. Cade turned up in the fourth quarter, 25 points, 10 assists. You know, they did what they did. You know, in game one, they had tons of steals and blocks and offensive rebounds. But, I mean, that's what they do. They grind you down. And I do think that one of the things that we are learning from watching these games is that on a regular basis, 110 can win these. these playoff games. And sometimes it can even be less. Defense is all the way back, all the way back.

We went through a whole time period about where we were talking about the three point line. You got to shoot threes. You shoot more threes. You win more games. And do we need to change it? Do we need to change the rules? Do we need to have a four point line? Do we need to get rid of corner threes? Well, let me tell you something. All the teams that shoot the most threes, there's one of those left. All the teams that are awesome at defense, they're left. That's what's happened. And I do think that what we are seeing unfold is going to have profound impact,

the same way that the Warriors and then the Rockets and these teams knocking down this amount of threes and you felt like I need to keep up scoring pace with them, what you are now going to see. And we've got a draft lottery that's coming up this weekend and a great draft ahead. All of a sudden, people are going to start looking through free agents, team building, the draft, etc. through the prism of can you guard? Because there was a, we went through a span where if you could knock down threes

and you could put the ball in the basket, you could stay on the floor because the good would outweigh the bad. That has flipped completely. You have a plethora of guys that can't throw it in the ocean and can stay on the court because they can guard and they can get rebounds and they can create steals and they can get you easy offense

and they can shut down your offensive juggernaut to the point where now these I mean these games are they scored 107 tonight they would have won with 98 they would have won with 98 points tonight same way goes with the I think the thunder tonight I mean they could have won with 108 if you're Detroiter, you're a Pistons fan. I think you walk away very confident from this game. It was close at the end, but you mentioned Cade.

He had good counting stats and like his fourth quarter was good, but this was not a Cade game. And what we've criticized the Pistons for during the regular season and in the postseason when they were in a tough series with the Raptors was they're too Cade-centric and they can't shoot. Duncan Robinson hit

five threes. And Dennis Jenkins had a great game as a secondary creator. There's one possession. I may not have all the details. I just watched it a couple hours ago, but it was a cave pick and roll to Thompson. Thompson to Jenkins.

Jenkins uses the rotation to drive into the lane, throws it up back to Thompson for like an Aleup or like an Aleup layup. And it was clear that there were two people on the perimeter that can attack closeouts that can drive and create for the Pistons. And I mean, Jenkins as an unheralded, undrafted guy was huge tonight for the Pistons.

Well, no question. We always talk about the other guys and what they're going to do. And while it was not a full Kade game, it was certainly a Ked fourth quarter. Oh, hell, yeah. 12 in the first quarter. And I saw that stat going around

that it is his first 15 playoff games that he has played in. he has had 20 plus points in every one of those games. And he joined Kareem, LeBron, and Anthony Davis in that category. I mean, it's three Hall of Famers that he joined in that category. And so it's been a hell of a start. He's first, I believe, in the NBA and points in the postseason. He is first in the NBA and assist in the postseason.

And to your point about the shooting, if there was one thing, you thought it was going to be a disadvantage, for them. It would certainly be that the offense and can you keep up on the three point line. Not only did they keep up on the three point line. They doubled them up. Tonight, they were 14 of 28 from three. Cleveland was seven of 32 from three. So, I mean, and this is a, it's a tight game. And they doubled them up in this game. So, you know, you mentioned Harden off the back. It's fourth time in nine playoff games that he's had more turnovers than field goals. And obviously people have extrapolated that over the course of his career and how many games he's had like this. But, I mean, it's honestly, it's appalling.

It's appalling how often a guy who has been an all-time regular season great has turned up these just absolute duds when it came playoff time. when he has I mean the old Harder would have four turnovers but 13 assists because he was doing everything

this Hardin just has four turnover and and again well and tonight I couldn't even make the concert date jokes because he had 13 attempts

so that doesn't fit into the concert date right there's no month with 13 so that made it tough leapier I guess yeah and the turnover at the end

I mean they were down I think they're down six. There's about 40 seconds left, and he just kind of just gives the ball the other team. It's inexplicable. Well, and then you have Mowbly who has one rebound in the game, one rebound, and it just does nothing, is inconsequential in the game.

And we talked about this when we talked about the magic and we talked about this with other teams, that this is the hard part about team building. in 2026. And one of the reasons that I said, the good teams are going to be young now, right? And you're seeing that, guys on rookie contracts,

because once you get into the market where somebody's been good and you've got to pay them, you look up and now you're paying Franz Wagner $180 million. Well, in Mowgli's case, he's $50 million and $53 million because he signed, he won a defensive player of the year, and he got that defensive player of the year award contract.

And it's like, you know, it's hard to. And then they're expected to be awesome, right? Because to whom much is given, much is expected. And so if you're making $50 million, you've got to be able to perform like that. And honestly, they're not ready to. Like, I don't know if he'll ever be ready to. We'll see in two or three years. but I know that generally 24-year-olds are not the guys that are being able to do it when it comes playoff time. Now, that is changing rapidly because in fairness, Kate Cunningham's 24 as well, right? And so he is carrying a team. But I just think that sometimes your natural trajectory is that you are going to hit your peak

or you're going to be able to play at the highest level when you're 26, when you're, you're 27, when they're 28. But these kids get $50 million when they're 23 and 24. And so they're expected to be able to, like, ain't nobody putting up with no one rebound, brother. Like, that's not. Another thing about his game tonight is zero free throws. Yeah.

So that means he's not being aggressive. He's not taking to the hole. He's not bumping into people. He's not creating contact. He's not being forceful with the ball when he has it. And that was clear tonight. I also, I told you this. right before the series started,

that there's nothing more in the world that J.B. Bicker staff would love to do than to beat this team that fired him. And I also told you, if you were trying to concoct a game plan, it was little reminiscent, and though he did not have the guns to be able to do it, Mike Brown did this against the Warriors years ago

when he was coaching the Kings. You remember with the year that Fox heard his hand, and they very well might have won that series. But it was the idea of you get this institutional knowledge of these guys that you have coached before. And so if you were trying to come up with a game plan against another team, it would behoothe you to have somebody

that was intensely familiar with said players. And I said at the beginning of this series, not only does he really want to win it, if you were going to try to tell, hey, what bothers Donovan Mitchell? He knows what's going to make Evan Mobley inconsequential. He knows what's going to bother Hardin. He knows he coached him in Houston.

He was with those guys every single day. He knows every player that matters on that Cleveland team. And he knows exactly what bothers them. He coached it. He watched the game. He knows who stopped them. He knows who made their life hell. He knows what they can't do well.

And he knows the positions that they don't want to be in. And so I think you've got a combination of things, right? Because I don't think that most people are sitting there going. The talent is on Cleveland's side, right? That once you get past Cade, the next three or four guys you would want in the series, probably wear cabs uniforms. Oh, especially with the way that just doesn't matter.

playing right now. Right. Right. But that just doesn't matter. And this this this this this this this this this distance thing. They are a a unit who is winning with defense in a league that is requiring you to be awesome on defense to win. And it's just changed. I want to correct myself. I believe I said they were playing the Raptors in the first round.

I got confused. They're obviously playing the magic. But yeah. There were points during that series where we were like. we weren't putting the dirt on the Pistons grave, but we were like digging it and plotting out the spot where it goes. When they were down 3-1. And now they're up 2-0, you know.

And I think that they've turned it around and just to echo what you said, the defense is where it is. Well, and we thought the other question, I mean, you already highlighted Robinson and Jenkins, the other question was who's going to be that other guy? Yo, this Tobias Harris stat is crazy. Did you see this floating around everywhere tonight after the game? He has had seven straight games with 20 or more points in the playoffs.

They mentioned this on the broadcast. He did not have two games in a row all season where he had 20. how is that even possible? Like, I'm telling you, I saw this, I saw this last year in the Knicks series. I don't know if you remember,

but Tobias Harris was, he was phenomenal in that series. And I saw him in Detroit at the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy golf thing. And, you know, I gave him a pound or whatever. And he's like, hey, what's up? And I was like, man, you really,

you almost like sunk the Knicks. And he's like, I'm from Long Island. I'm a big Knicks fan. I was like, really? Oh, yeah. I was like, really? He's like, yeah. But like that was, he was really good in that series.

And he's been phenomenal in this one. It's there was a question. Like, we have to be honest. We'd be talking to microphones. We had a lot of questions about the pistons. When they were down with Orlando and sort of like at certain times during the regular season when they weren't high flying. And a lot of it was, are they just too K'd centric? Because it just felt like oftentimes there was no one else that can get you a bucket.

and Jenkins and Harris tonight were those players where if you swing, swing to them, they will get you a bucket, whether it's from three, whether it's a floater, whether it's a mid-range, whether it's whatever you need. I love that team. I do. I love that Pistons. I love that Pistons team. I do.

They remind me of the Grin' Grind and Grind Grizzlies that I watch for so long, which got no credit. And it was like they are doing it in a different way. they are offensively challenged, but they are dogs. They go so hard all the time. And they seem to have this great chemistry. And obviously they've got the one leader who Cunningham has just been otherworldly. This seven, this five game win streak that they are on,

because they closed out the last three of the magic, the stats are freakish. I mean, he is, he's right up there in conversations with whoever you want to have the conversation with. I saw his stat side by side with Alexander. And also in the losses, Kate, good. No, he's getting in different conversations. Yeah. And also, there is a, it's a bit like Brunson where it's like, oh, we're in a close game under five minutes.

We know what to do. Yep. We'll give him the ball. And he showed tonight that he's more than capable. And that's what happening all season long. Yeah. And I mean, I guess it's a newsflash that James Hardin is a colossal disappointment at playoff time. I'll tell you what.

He's had some good ones. He's had some good playoff games. Yeah. They're usually not ones that matter. Against Boston. Yeah. They're usually not ones that matter all that much. And we will see.

Look, this will play out. They'll go back to Cleveland. This series is not over. You're not going to bury them completely yet. But certainly Detroit was able to. take care of business in the first two. I don't know how you felt about the second game that we watched tonight, but I thought the Lakers played like damn dear perfect in that first half when it was

58. The second quarter. First quarter wasn't great. 58, 57 at halftime. And I swear this is clockwork. I go and I'm like, you know what I, you know what it is? they're not turning the ball over. And I go and look and they got seven turnovers at half time.

And this is the thing that we talked about all through last year when Oklahoma City was doing what they were doing. And you saw it repeatedly, even in playoff games, whether it was against Denver, whether it was against Indiana at the highest level, no matter who they played against. Are you able to take care of the basketball, If you are, you can play with them.

If you can't, you're getting run out because there's just nobody better at making you pay for it. And so they had seven at halftime. So now you're getting to play, you know, a basketball game against them. Because you know almost a quarter of their points in many games come from them turning you over. and now they're spraying and you're just praying. And it's like, okay. They got great athletes. They turn you over.

They convert all of those by, I think it was 10 minutes left. So like when you talk about like by the third quarter and then maybe a little into the fourth, I went and checked the number again because the lead had ballooned. And they were already up. The Lakers were already up to 16. I mean, it was nine. it was nine. But it was, when the game got out,

like when it started to go the wrong way fast, they had turned it over nine times. It's like, you tell me, did somebody hang with Oklahoma City? And then I'll go look at that turnover number and I'll believe you or not because like they, and they did for a long time.

But then you even saw that fourth quarter, like he doesn't have enough guys to trust. so they gassed out. They're old, right? A lot of them. I mean, you know, you got smart out there. You got LeBron out there. You're playing all these guys huge minutes.

He can't play La Ravia for a minute without them giving up 10 points. It's crazy. Jake has given them less than nothing. He only has Kennard, who's not exactly some kind of defensive stalwart. And then Jackson Hayes. And you saw by the fourth quarter that deep Oklahoma City team, who's out there running out case on McCain, dude. McCain was killing today.

Wallace and Isaiah Joe and Jalen Williams and all these. Like they're throwing out and it's like Mitchell? Yeah, they come in waves and then now Caruso and Casano Wallace are hounding you. And they just got run out in that fourth quarter and they're like walking back. And like it felt like Oklahoma City was going absolutely falls to the wall. because they could because they weren't dead and and the Lakers are just like they had about three quarters in them where they could keep up that you know okay we're like you even saw that one turnover on the because God there were 5,000 reviews on the one where they tried

to get the take foul on smart I mean it's just literally it's the laziest pass teamed up with the laziest effort to go get the pass from a. It's like they were just tired. It was like two old men tired with two like young guys flying. Smart and LeBron have like a mental connection and chemistry. But sometimes the physical doesn't can't cash the checks. You know what I mean? And I like I thought like Ruby was hitting everything.

And watching the game in my notes I wrote down. I was like there's just too much on LeBron. Like it's just two. you're just asking him to do too much on every single possession. Like they need more, they need Luca. And Reeves was, he scored well, like he hit some shots. He looks better. But there was two times where he was dribbling down the lane and just fell over and gave

the ball of their team, like twice. Like, like, they didn't get tripped. Nothing is just sort of like off balance and fell over and gave the ball of their team. Once in the first half, once in the second half. And they had done it certainly in the first half, it was a reasonably good job of holding down SGA like he was. Oh, this was not an SGA game. And neither was game one.

And also, oddly, in a game between Oklahoma City and the Lakers, nobody was going to the free throw line that first half. God, John Goebel and that staff, get a grip. That game took friggin' forever. And it just review after review. I mean, the double. Nonsense reviews. Dude, you know where I lost it? I just want to start throwing tomatoes at my screen. Was this bastard calls them,

So now we've got double foul. Everybody's pissed. Nobody knows what's going on. They show the replay. It's like the most marginal ridiculous thing ever. Then the damn jump.

ball takes 10 minutes. Yeah, because LeBron's arguing about like where Luke Canard can stand on the jump ball. It's just like, what are we doing at this point? Yo, if I had, right. It felt like lawyers instead of basketball players at some point. Right. If I had ripe tomatoes, I just wanted to throw him in my, boo.

Boo! It's ridiculous. Oh, freaking dog. And the Chet, with Chet pretending to get hit in the face in the first quarter. Oh, my God. And like the Reeves thing with this arm, and he's like on the ground holding his arm like he's dying. and they called a foul on Reeves,

and they review it, and then call it a flagrant on SGA.A. It was just like, what are we doing? The LeBron shot when he was clearly shooting the ball and got fouled, and they called it on the floor. It was just like a brain fart. There was like multiple ref brainfarts now. Not that it influenced who was going to win the game.

No, it didn't matter. Of all four series, this series feels the least competitive. Is that fair to say? Yes. We're just bitching that the refs made that, less watchable than it would have normally been. Yes. It was a good game through three quarters. And then there was no flow whatsoever.

And then it just became late. McCain was in a flow state. McCain was in a full flow state. But then it just became thunder runouts. And it's like swing, swing. Oh, I'm not going to shoot a layup. Here's Casey Wallace. It's like, okay. Yeah.

What are we doing? I thought McCain was great. I mean, he's four for five from three. It just felt everything he did worked. Darryl can for real go to hell for that. What are we doing? I like Darrell, but you can go to hell, bro. That's crazy.

I can't wait. What did they trade him for? Like a second round pick or something? Like, I can't wait for that graphic, that full screen graphic where it says like the McCain trade. It's like, you know, the Thunder get a key contributor in a championship run. And the Celtics got some dude in the second round. Oh, my God.

I mean, you do McCain was going to have playoff moments too. I mean, he's just, and he, he's like, another one of these guys that can make a play off the bounce and also guard his position and he can knock down threes. And it's like, okay, why is that? Why, how was that guy not useful for you? When they put their garbage time guys in, it's Kendridge Williams, Aaron Wiggins, and like, Topich, who they called Topic, which I thought was hilarious. Yeah. Hot topic. But it's like, I'm like, these guys are like, they've all had like, moment.

with the playoffs before. Like, they're, like, the Knicks Garbage Time guys are garbage time guys. But like the Thunder Garbage Time guys are guys, rotation guys. Right. How are you feeling on Nick Sixers after being up to, oh, but obviously game one was an absolute runout, game two, infinitely more competitive. In fact, when I was reading about it this morning, it said that the 25, lead changes in that game were the most in a playoff game in 11 years.

Those teams really did just keep going back and forth. It was a really fun game to watch. And I was planning on watching it at home, but I did my thing where I parked the car and then go to the bar. And I just stayed there because the energy was so high. The game was so good. high fives all over the place, like the city's on fire. The OG thing is the big variable.

All right. So let's get to it. And we're going to be, I'm going to be very blunt with you, Jacoby. Wait, you're going to be very blunt with me. As opposed to what? Slightly blunt. Have you kept in a book? Did you reach out to family, friend, and,

Godmother of your twins, Anne Hathaway. Yes, I did. Yes, I did. In order for her to help said situation. Yes, I did. I absolutely did. It's the first thing I did this morning. And what did you say?

You have to heal O.G. I want to know how it was phrased. Yes. Keep it a buck. I mean, who else to do it? I don't want to violate her privacy. Yes. But it's a group chat.

It's a group chat with her great husband. Adam and my wife as well. And so here's where it is. Okay. This was, no, it wasn't the first thing in the mornings. 149. Hamstring strain. OG is hurt day to day, Annie, only you can fix him.

That was my text. Exactly my text right there. Don't leave us hanging. And her husband texts back. No. And I was like, do I continue to push this? Probably not. Let's wait until we really need it.

Because the thing about this OG hamstring strain is this has happened before. And I'm sure you remember the Sixers series where he's hobbling around in Game 7. Like he might as well have had like, you know, when you like tear your Achilles and you got like that one leg on a wheel thing. Like he was just like he couldn't move in Game 7 against the Sixers two years ago. And there was the secondary report that it took. it's not that bad of his strain. He's questionable and whatever. I don't care.

I'm terrified. No OG, no season. No OG, no Eastern Conference. No OG, no finals. No OG, no nothing. He is the unsung engine that has made the Knicks team palatable defensively. We have talked about this year after year after year

that the eventual champion almost always is dictated in some way, shape, or form by hamstrings, groins, and calves, right? Yes. With opponents or with their own roster. Right. And so last year, it's when it's when Aaron Gordon goes down. And again, we're not saying that things would have been different, but they might have been. And I mean, you got all the way to a game seven last year with a guy

with a calf that ended up blowing out his Achilles, right? And so that was a, that was a That was 48 minutes to win the NBA title. And we got to the very end of it. And it was still these soft tissue things in some way, shape, or form. Obviously, you talk about Luca being out tonight in the profound effect. It has on the Lakers opportunity to be competitive. And he's out. And he's going to be out for a long time.

And so obviously they got amazing news about OGN and Obie today for sure. Did they? Yes. Did they? Yeah. Oh, you guys, here's a, you're an amazing. Do you know what amazing news about OJN and OB is? No, no, no, he feels great and he's ready to go.

No, no, no, no, no. Amazing news, I will tell you. So grade one, I would be like, oh, shoot. But you might be able to get him back if you can get past this round. Grade two, you're smoked. So the fact that they did not put grade one or grade two on his designation, it does matter a great deal. Trust me, I've covered all kinds of playoff teams that have had this happen before.

And so I got it. And it's scary. But here's the deal. You can win if you can win three, if you can win three, sit him for three for show. Oh, if you win three, you chain him to the radiator. Right. You chain him to the radiators that you can't move. You put him in jail, arrest him for something.

And then you can play out the rest of the series even, right? you wouldn't even have to bring him back for four. Or five or six. Yeah. But it's, and I also think that one thing that's not been discussed either is Josh Hart heard his hand. He did. Do you remember that?

I believe in this Nick's team is because the way they played defense the last month of regular season and the way they played defense in the last series. And a lot of that, asked Jalen Johnson about O.G and O.G. and O.B. and Josh Hart. And when you look at the

maxi getting tired at the end of the game, like he was exhausted at the end of that. A lot of that's bridges. And I saw a lot of apologies to Macau Bridges last night because Nick's fans were going, wait, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, we really need his ass now. You know what I mean? You need McGill Bridges to... He hit a huge shot. Well, and there's a big void now, right? Like, you're going to have to replace point.

You're going to have to replace defensive intensity. Yeah, like, he is going to be called into action to fill that gap. That is because Ananooga, as we chronicle, I mean, he's been playing like frigging Kauai. Like, seriously, like 60-something. 60-something percent from the field, 40-something percent from three, locking down everybody on defense. Like, I think it's like near 50 percent from three. He's been unbelievable.

Yeah. I mean, every time, every, because he's getting open shots because of the way that Kat and Brunson bring defenders towards them. But it's a, you know. Did you think that they choked Philly out in the fourth or did you think Philly, like Nick Nurse said, got a ton of open. threes they just missed. I don't think it's that binary. Maybe some of both. I felt like Maxi was tired and George was tired from carrying the offensive low.

I thought George played really well in the first half. Like he was great in the first half. He was just fantastic. But I think that with, you know, with Embed not there, so much of their offensive creation is on Maxi and so much of the Nick's defensive focus is on Maxi that is just, it's just like body blows over 12 rounds. He's just got tired. I will say, and we don't know anything about Embed,

we don't know whether he'd come back or not. But it was odd watching that play out and how less of a disadvantage Philly became defensively when he was not available. Because what happens is, bro, if your main ball handler is a strong, as well, I don't know what you do because you are just always going to have whoever he is guarding set the screen and now he has to guard.

Can't move. I know. He can't move. And you don't, and, you know, with towns or somebody like that, he can play out at the three point line too. So you're already stretching them out if you're going to put towns at center. You don't have to play a center if you're the Knicks. And so at least Bona could move.

At least Dom Barlow is moving his feet like crazy. And it's like, I really don't know, even if he did come back. Like it's just, it feels somewhat unsolvable to be able to put together a credible defense if that's the way it's going to be. Because you're, he can't, he can't get out there. And he, and you don't have a bunch of defenders like, like Atlanta was just. fighting over everything. They don't really have those kind of defenders on the wings for

in the same way. Tenacity-wise with Philly. And so offensively, they're obviously at a horrible disadvantage. Defensively, I'm not so sure if it's probably not a lot better.

Well, I mean, Verno, like, teams are always better when everyone's available. So you want and be available. They're better when with Embedda available. However, in the Boston series, they just didn't have anyone that could slow Mb'd be down at all.

So you could post him up like it was 1994. You know what I mean? It was just like whether it's Vucevich or Keta or whoever, like he could just score, whether it's from the midrange or in the post. And if he can't do that offensively, he's probably a net negative because he literally came.

move defensive. They also don't have a guard that kills you offensively, right? I mean, say Boston doesn't. If you get stuck on a screen and you're in drop and Embedes in drop, like Brunton Brunton's, it's like a practice shot. He could have had

60. He had 27 at half. I mean, if Embedithes is in drop against Brunson, he can't be on the court. And I don't know how he's not in drop. he can't be at the level either and he can't like glitz he can't edge.

I swear, I swear, I swear when they said he is out with hip and ankle, I'm like, oh my God. But I thought he had an appendectomy. Remember he was stretching out? He has no knees. I was like, he's got no knees to hit from the ankle. Like, what is it hurt on him?

Also, it makes it crazy. It is wild, the thing that they ran him back out there for game one. If, now maybe he got. got both of those. Maybe both of it, maybe both of it happened. But I mean, they were, look, they were drawn dead game one anyway coming off the game seven. You never know. I mean, listen, they could have, I'm happy. I'm proud of the Knicks for winning that game because that is one of those games. Sometimes you lose. Yeah. You know, you saw that, you know, Houston did it in,

was that game three against the Lakers. This is like close one and you lose, you're at home. The next thing you know, backs against the wall and you lose a series. And that's, that is a series swinging win that has the Knicks in control. I feel confident about the Knicks in this Sixers series. I feel confident about the Knicks, but I do think in the absence of OG and Anobie, it becomes more plausible that Philadelphia isn't getting run out. That's awesome. Yeah, OG is very important to what the Knicks do.

And I'm also worried about Josh Hart. Yeah. I thought, I thought, dudes is, dudes can, dues hitting shots and he's someone who can stay in front of Max here at least challenge him. Well, and the other thing is this, you can't, that, that Philadelphia team has shown an insane amount of pride. They were just down 3-1. We just saw them down 3-1 to Boston, and they were able to storm back.

And so you don't want to, you don't want to bury them just yet because they lost their first two because they were certainly infinitely more competitive in game two than they were. Yes, they did. We talked about how Chris Finch is so good at making your best players uncomfortable. And so we kind of pointed to that on why Fox and Wenbanyama combined in the first game for 10 for 31 from the field for 21 points. Those two responded in a big way in game two and ended up 12 for 25. They only had to go 12 or 20. I mean, they could have been better. I mean, they only had to go to them for 25 quarter. The fourth quarter was worthless in this game.

No. Like the only thing that was good is, what are they calling those fans? The jackals. Did you see the giant raid can? Yeah, of course. The giant raid can they made for Ant Man. I kind of like the Jackals. I like the Rae.

How has nobody done that yet? There's the first time I've seen the raid can for Ant Man. I loved it. First of all, I think Ant Man is a terrible nickname. Also, like, a good, I like those movies. I like those, like that, they went into like the weird metaverse multiverse and the last one. But Ant Man is, they make good movies.

they're going to have a response. I just, that response was so emphatic that it made me it was so bad that I was like oh my God, this is when it's like they've got the goods to be able to make life hell.

They don't have enough ball handlers on that Minnesota team and they got the one crazy Conley game but he's 38 years old. an I.O. is still hurt. An Antman is still hurt. Okay. Now you're asking them. And it's like, and on the other end,

they've just got a bunch of guys that are defending their ass off, that all can handle the ball, that are learning their way. And it's like, okay, they got it on film now. And they're going, if we do this and we do this, you don't have enough guys out there that can create for themselves and others. Whereas that's all we got. We got a bunch of guys that can all create for themselves and others and pop the ball around. And it just and and they've got the defensive wherewithal to be able to make life help for them.

I just, it was so appalling and it was such a runout that I was like, oh shit, man. Let me. I'll give you the other side of that coin. All right. I.O. more time off should be getting healthy soon. Anthony Edwards. It was such a blowout that he didn't really have to expend that much energy. and McDaniels was in foul trouble.

Like that, I think that was a huge part of the game. Enormous part of it. You're right. McDaniels in foul trouble was like, it was kind of like, they've only got so many horses and so many guys that can get you 30 in a night. And McDaniels was sort of like out of the game. And, you know, God bless Terrence Shannon and Jalen Clark,

but like, pretty big drop off. Here's the other thing. With no disrespect to Portland Trailblazers. what San Antonio is going to face with that Minnesota crowd is going to be a different world than they've ever been in before. That Minnesota is an amazing, amazing home court playoff experience. They just sent home yonkish. Yes. And so they are going to be, you're going to be walking into, like, they're going to be drunkard in hell and you are going to walk in.

like those kids, because they're kids, man. Most of those guys are in their first three years in the league. They, you know, outside of Harrison Barnes and maybe Luke Cornett, the rest of those guys that play a big part, and I guess Fox for that matter. But like Harper and Castle and Wembe and Champany and a lot of these guys, like you're walking into a straight Hornets nest when you walk into that arena. And you're going to have to deal with like real, very serious opposite.

And so I'll be interested in see how they handle all of that because I don't know if Minnesota has the basketball goods to be able to pull this off with Ant in his current state. But I know it's not going to be for lack of home court advantage

because they'll have that. They will have that. I bet it's wildest shit. Game threes on the road are a very different proposal for the Knicks for the pistons and for the thunder than it is for the spurs

because if you're down 10 in the second quarter, your mind has to start thinking, are we about to go down 2-1 in this series? And we got another game here in front of this crowd. Like the pressure is different when you lose that game one. Champany missing that three.

He didn't miss any yesterday. But him missing that three in game one puts so much more pressure on them in game three than the other three teams that are up to well going into game three. Obviously. I just worried that they, the Spurs figured something out and how to deal with them and that aunt is, if it were not the playoffs, he would not be playing basketball. The first half.

Because like, is there anything you've seen so far that you think you could possibly look up at Anthony Edwards has 36 in a game? Like, no, I, no, no, no. And in the absence of that, I worry, you know, because like, you need. I think Randall McDaniels, you know, there's other ways they can get the points. But for me, it's, it's can they counter what the spurs did defensively to them? Because the second half is whatever. They were up by like 40 at the half.

The first half, they scored third, the, the wolf scored 35 points. They shot 29.8% not from 30%. from the field. Dude. And they had two three-pointers in the first half. Two. Like, that's shutting the water off. That's embarrassing.

That's getting punked. Like, Fitzh, like, Fitzh said. And you think about it, I mean, look, they only score, it was the game one was 104, 102. Like, they had to give up 102 to win. That's the thing I worry about. Like, how many times are you going to tamper? that spurs thing down to

102. And what would be was like over eight from three or something too? Yeah. Three for 15 or something on the field. So they Fox wasn't good. They obviously got back that track. Yeah. Yeah. I'm excited about tomorrow night's meet. And I think you're right. I think that crowd

is going to be hype. It's a Friday night. Everyone's done with the work week. They've been waiting for this. It's a one one series. Also, you got some experience like with that crowd. I mean, they've been to two Western Conference finals. They have, and I'm just saying that is an environment that can rattle any team, much less a young team. And I will also say that I have to admit and be honest and speak truth into microphones.

When they started before the Nuggets Wolf series, I was leaning heavily on it. Heavily on it. Sure. And I underestimated the Wolves. I'm not going to fall for that again. Totally fair. What did you think about the Charles Barkley, Draymond Green stuff?

Well, I've always said this. This is for a long time. Hey, hey, this has caused as much conversation as any of the games. You know, you and I have been in sports media for a very long time. And one of the things that I've always said is, like, you can tell when a player is a player

that they'll be good at media when they're done. And I've always said that about Draymond. I've been like, he's going to be great at media when he's done doing this because he's so outspoken. And my biggest takeaway from that is he felt like he was visiting the in-laws and forgot he was a house guest. You know what I mean? Like I feel like he's like, oh, this is the show where we make fun of each other. And, you know, we throw little quibbs around.

And it's like, you don't have our last name. and this is the second time you've been here, so you can't make fun of dad. I can make fun of dad. You know what I mean? But you can't make fun of dad. That's kind of how I felt about it. Right.

Because there is not the chemistry that goes along. And yet they have been... And the history. Like, Shackles say whatever to Charles Parker. But they've got the... The Malcolm Gladwell 10,000 hours together. You know what I mean? I'm letting you do this because I'm not talking about Traymond anymore.

You hate Tramon. so much. I mean, he was getting piled on. He was also going back and forth with Austin Rivers. Like, just a lot of Dremont the last 48 hours. A lot of it. He has certainly inserted himself into a conversation. Every, frankly, every conversation.

And to watch that all unfold and to watch nobody laugh at his joke, just that. What was it? I always say, you can. be mean if you're funny, but that just wasn't funny. The joke that wasn't funny and fell that flat, I mean, my heart was so full. I was like, you, I was like, my heart was so full. Even, even, even, even, even your arrogant ass has to feel so stupid right now.

I know that feeling. And he just like, looking around like, Yeah, and it's like, like, you really thought that was going to hit. You thought that was going to hit. You're on national television. Everybody's watching you. You know, what we don't want is to look like you in a Houston rocket uniform. And he's like, I guess he thought that they were going to chuckle or something.

I guess. And for nobody to react to it whatsoever. And it just be like the groans. And then just this enormous response of people calling him. you know, a jerk and bringing up Barclay's Houston stats as compared to his stats and all this stuff. I was like, uh,

I said I wasn't going to talk about it, but I got to tell you already did. It just felt very like, I know you are, but what am I? It was like, all right. I mean, Barkley was being a dick too, but whatever like, I don't know. I don't know how. Let me tell you something. The first train to heaven is going to include Steph

Curry for having to be around that guy and Clay Thompson all the time. Clay Thompson holding up his four rings on his yacht. It's still like on Instagram live. Like just remember I'm a four-time champion. Hold on. Hold on. There's so insufferable.

Of course. And so you have, there's going to be a bunch of teams that when their team does not vault into the top four, they're going to be super depressed, right? And also this is an unbelievable draft. Yeah, and this happened last year, but I think one of the things I want to acknowledge about your life is a lot of fans of teams that were tanking this year can just sort of like turn off their fan brain of that team and not pay attention.

But you have to do the studio show before and halftime and after. So you have to be in the building and you have to discuss the details of the game. I can't tell you how badly I did not want to. There was a game. And, you know, I don't know why this one stands out to me, but. they were like, you know, they say it to your ear. They come back at the end that they're like, all right, we're going to do, you know, the producer will say,

all right, we're going to come back and then we're doing the package, this promo rollout, right, whatever. But it's always a player package. So it'll just be like one other package player. And so I remember hearing of my ear, they're like, all right, we'll come back. It's going to be Ryan Rupert. I mean, this is what I was doing.

for like 50 games, bro. I know. And you gotta like, and I've got to pick out a tie. And you have to be excited and put your TV smile on. I have to say something about this highlight

in this game that was just lost by 36 because this guy had a double double. I don't even, I've never even seen it. Here he is working his left hand. I'm like,

is going to be planning to be good next year no matter what. And obviously we'd love to catch some luck for sure. But like, and Indiana will be good again next year. But like, then you have those like repeat offenders where it's going to be like Sacramento

and it's going to be the wizards and it's going to be Brooklyn. Like this is and this also the reason this lottery is the most fascinating is because it's the last one we get like this. Like the your savior coming to save you

by you losing 60 games next year is now going to be something that people can't plan for, right? And so this is the last go round of everybody trying to lose on purpose and we'll see who ends up getting lucky. Who am I rooting for in this lottery? The Grizzlies, obviously. Who are the Grizzlies sending?
