The Nikki Glaser Podcast - #507 Nikki's Grammy Night, Flipping For Benson Boone & Words With Friends

Episode Date: February 6, 2025

Nikki had a b-l-a-s-t at the Grammys. Brian, Sean, and Andrew are excited to hear, but first, we need to list all of Andrew’s powerful friends. From being part of the Benson Boone performance to... who came over to her table, Nikki spills it all. Brian has a total fanboy moment realizing he’s lowkey obsessed with Heidi Klum, and Nikki might need to sit through 30 hours of makeup next Halloween. It was a night full of epic stories, and one that really needs to be shouted out is the pep talk Chris gave Nikki. In the Final Thought, Nikki breaks down why Benson Boone will always nail the best flips. Starting point is 00:02:12 The Nikki Glaser podcast. Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, The Nikki Glaser podcast. Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, Here's Nikki. Hello, here I am. Welcome to the show. It's the Nikki Glaser podcast. We are in Los Angeles this week.
Starting point is 00:02:27 I was at the Grammys last night. It is a full fun room. We've got Brian Frangy. We've got Sean O'Connor. And we've got Andrew Collins. Hello. I am just fresh from doing, I was late. You guys, you boys were like having your own podcast in here.
Starting point is 00:02:43 I walked into the studio and it was like, you were already so chatty and having fun and laughing. It made me feel so good. I mean, we were kind of discovering that every one of Andrew's friends are super wealthy. Yes, independently wealthy in different fields also. It's not just like they're all in Silicon Valley. Why do you think I'm friends with him?
Starting point is 00:03:00 I wanted to become better and I noticed a trend. Yeah, just get near me and you're like, yeah. Get near him and things go well. I'm the cool, I'm not a, I'm a cooler just for myself. Yeah, let's go through it. Okay, Andrew, your child, what are your childhood friends is a very famous country star. You went to-
Starting point is 00:03:16 I was just with him last week. Really? At Sunset Marquee. Oh, wow. We were just talking about his new album he's putting out. It's real laid back with Scooter Jennings. Actually, I shouldn't tell you about that. Scooter Jennings?
Starting point is 00:03:24 Oh, he just blew us, uh oh I thought that was the name of a character on Happy Gilmore I didn't know that was an actual performer Scooter McGavin Oh, that's right, okay, close enough Yeah, Scooter Jennings is the son of Waylon Jennings He used to be married to Dreya De Mateo
Starting point is 00:03:40 Oh, from The Sopranos? Okay Or Sopranos, depending on if you're Sopranos! I say Sopranos, right? People say Sopranos? Okay, or Sopranos, depending on if you're Sopranos. I say Sopranos, right? Me too. People say Sopranos. Well, we were in New Jersey, so it's immediately coming out. Sopranos, that's how people say it.
Starting point is 00:03:51 East Coast version. Okay, that's the way you should say it. Sopranos is this areodite. And then, and that word in and of itself. You know what it means right away, even if you don't. That's a good point. Yeah. What is the word?
Starting point is 00:04:02 Areodite. It's like when you have celery and carrot Today I feel like it's like hello in Japanese I don't even I'm asking you and I realize I don't even know what it would be so Crude it a let's try let's just play and come on it'll be Right yeah crude CR. Yeah crudity CR you crude D Yeah, uh a No, that's where
Starting point is 00:04:52 This is why I don't learn these words yeah, cuz you don't want to be no because they don't make sense to normal speaking people well No, just pick. What is a crudity crudity? It's like it could be today. It's a crudity Yeah, like it's you don't have to you don't have to talk about it like it's an Italian woman crudity It's an I crew D I T E It's that's it's like French and I think it's probably should have an accent a goo So what is it? It's a appetizer. Yeah, it's like, you know raw vegetables Yeah, when like, you know, they have hummus with pita and crudity It's usually gonna be a bunch of shit You don't want to eat crudite is what also got the guy who who's the doctor the Oprah's doctor that John Federman? Yeah, dr. Oz
Starting point is 00:05:35 Dr. Phil oh yeah, he's also dr. Oz had a gaffe during his Senate When he was running for senator against John Federman in Pennsylvania where he said like you know remember it was Oh, no, he was so basically he was trying to show that he was like of the people salt of the earth Yeah, like it was that Wegmans and he was like alright, so celery what eight dollars This is how expensive it is to make a crudite. Yeah It was trying to relate to the common man Yeah, yeah very area diet air area diet area I'm trying to relate to the common man. Oh my god. That's what I'm saying, it's a word, not for the people. So you got caught up in a doctor-office trap. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:07 Yeah, very areodite. Areodite? Areodite? Yeah, are you. Areodite. Areodite. And what's an areodite? Ersatz is my new word that I've.
Starting point is 00:06:18 Oh, tell me about ersatz. It's like a copy of something. It means it's ersatz, it's like, it's a less good copy. E-R-S-A-T-Z. It means it's ersatz. It's like, it's a less good copy. E-R-S-A-T-Z. I think it's ersatz. I think that's it. I could be wrong.
Starting point is 00:06:31 That's a new word. How did the word get into your vocabulary? I think I heard, it was probably on like some kind of app I had. And then I think I came across it in like reading stuff and then I would always look it up. And then I think I actually put it in a note and then I would see it. But I think it I think I actually put it in a note and then I would see it.
Starting point is 00:06:46 But I think it just sunk in like last week on a vocab quiz I was taking on TikTok or like on a reel that said, oh, no, it was YouTube. And it was a guy that was like, if I was, it was three o'clock in the morning, I couldn't sleep. And eventually it fed me this video that was like, test your vocabulary, see how smart you are.
Starting point is 00:07:01 And it was 10 questions and it was one of them. And I got it right. And now it's like in because I'm so proud of them and I got it right. And now it's like in because I'm so proud of myself that I got it right so now it's locked. Like pride. When do you throw it out there? When do you get the balls to go, well I can't even remember the word but.
Starting point is 00:07:13 ersatz, yeah it was like a. When do you go oh that's ersatz. Literally never. Yeah I feel like with these words because this happens to me quite a bit, I have to wait five years after I'm confident of what it means to just start using it in conversation Yep, I'm trying to think of the one that I just got comfortable with and tried out
Starting point is 00:07:30 Patently oh trying patently wait obviously is that patently but sometimes people say pay That's why I don't I'm not confident about I'm not confident either now. Yeah, I think it's I think I think Patently yeah, I hear him saying I got I got it. I'm gonna say he's wrong I think he actually might say patently and I'm making it up. Okay, but I don't know I hate that cuz I'll listen to a podcast of people who I think are like the smartest people in the world and they're always Mispronouncing words of that. I start Someone points it out. Yes, I struggle with taking things for,
Starting point is 00:08:07 because I know granite is the thing that everyone says wrong instead of granted. I will say, Nikki, whatever you think is the right thing to say, say the opposite. Cause I usually would think, like I use, I train myself to do the opposite of what my natural inclination was. And then I go to I say granted granite
Starting point is 00:08:25 Yeah, all the time. I cannot literally I can't say that phrase without clenching everything in me and being like which one is it? I don't know. Oh, even though it's clear. It's not a countertop. Yeah, no, it's granted It's like you just have to convince yourself. I I'm stuck in a place right now with champion at the bit I'm stuck in a place right now with champing at the bit. Oh, chomping? Chomping, because it's spelled with an A. But it's champing. Dirty Rock pointed out that it's
Starting point is 00:08:50 champing because horses champ. Oh. And I don't know if that's a joke that Jack makes, but it seems so correct that I've just been doing champing at the bit. But then I'm like, do people think I'm an idiot? Well, I remember Kelsey Grammer going on like Conan in the late 90s and saying that, you
Starting point is 00:09:07 know, he was talking about a lot of words that are mispronounced most of the time. And one I remember was people say culinary and it's culinary. And no one says it that way. But I think he is right. Culinary. But I've never said it like that. I think it was like a bit, you know, it's like it's Kelsey Grammer. So they were like trying to make a bit out of like, what are some words that you know
Starting point is 00:09:24 that other people don't and you're smarter than? Anyway, I was at the Grammys last night and all your friends are famous and, wait, Jay Goin wasn't there. But he's been before, I'm sure. Oh yeah, he skipped it, you know, he's busy. Taylor Swift has a song about Jay Goin.
Starting point is 00:09:36 Did you ask him about it? I don't know if it's her song. It's speculated. Should we all hang out and ask him? I mean, it's none of my business and I would never pry in that way because I just... I don't do that anymore. I don't want that behind-the-scenes story unless she's willing to give it to me,
Starting point is 00:09:49 and that's what I stand behind. I don't want to do any investigating. I just want to take it as it is. But I will say that last night, she wore a tee. Like, she had this awesome dress, and she had, like, a little beaded, like, necklace thing hanging off, like off right on her leg and it said T and it's like, oh is that Travis or is it her?
Starting point is 00:10:11 Or is it tortured poets? Like who knows what's, so it could be all those things. It could be a man named Tevin. It could be, yeah, her long time manicurist Tevin. Maybe it's a diagram of the cul dede-sac she grew up on. It doesn't even have to be a T. It could be a cross that broke. It could be a half a cross.
Starting point is 00:10:31 A broken cross. So you were so close to her. Yeah, well, no. It was a big room. So she was in the middle and I was stage right. You had the best seats. I had amazing seats. For the two performances that met.
Starting point is 00:10:45 Well, the one, two of the three that mattered the most to me. No, three of the four that mattered the most to me. Charlie XCX, Sabrina Carpenter and Chapel Rhone right in front of me. They were on stage right. And and then Billie Eilish was in the middle. But like those were the performances I was most excited to see. And I was literally front row. It was it was incredible.
Starting point is 00:11:03 It was sick. I spotted you like four or five times. Really? Yeah, like, and it was, I was counting to see if I would see you more or Trevor Noah doing a speech about donating to fire relief. Oh yeah, he really had to do a lot of fire talks. He did beat you there. There was 10 announcers of that.
Starting point is 00:11:20 But you got on five times. It was, it's wild because you're sitting there and you're like, I would have to look around before I check my phone because I didn't want to look at my phone. Of course you want to look at your phone when it's like a boring talk about something that is very important in the scope of things, but you have been, you know,
Starting point is 00:11:36 you're paying attention the whole time and like that's a moment to check your phone, but you don't want to be the one looking at your phone when they're talking about inclusion in music. Or like, or... And then they zoom in and what you're looking at. I'm donating! Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:49 Yeah, you don't want to be like putting it together at Uber Eats Order when they're talking about trans rights. You're putting an offer in on a Palisades home, right? Yeah, yeah. Oh, that lot looks nice. My one joke that I enjoyed of the night was, did you guys see Jaden Smith's? Oh yes.
Starting point is 00:12:03 Yeah, I said that, that's one house I wish would have burnt down. And I said that, I literally, the guy who, someone that texted me his, he texted me his view of the stage, and it's like completely obstructed by his giant house head, which by the way, backstage, when I was getting led backstage to my seat, I saw him in the corridor of like the stairs, you know, backstage, and he was on the phone
Starting point is 00:12:26 talking through the house, holding the phone up to the window. From the house phone? Yes. The call was coming from outside the house, like literally right outside it. So ridiculous, but he was obstructing my friend's view, and my friend was sitting next, he sent a picture, and then my other friend was like,
Starting point is 00:12:44 where are you seated? We're right behind, you know, Jayden's house head. And I made, I just quickly shot off the joke, yeah, I wish his house would have burned down. Not even thinking about the fact that the guy she's sitting with who sent me the picture, his house did burn down. And so he comes up to our table, and I go,
Starting point is 00:13:02 oh, cause I know, she goes, I showed him, he loved it. He goes, I loved it. I love it because he's like, I've been looking at this house head all night long. And the second he takes the house head off, then Willow Smith jumps on the table and starts dancing. I know. Jump on it?
Starting point is 00:13:15 Onto the table. Honestly, I, last night really tested my patience with the Smith family. I thought they were real unhinged. I thought it would be funny. Kermit sipping tea over here because. I thought it would be funny. Kermit sipping tea over here because. I thought it would be really funny if Will slapped Jayden
Starting point is 00:13:29 in the house spun around. But like. Oh my god. I was thinking about that. My friend, like Will Smith, passed us in line to go on the red carpet. And I was with my publicist. And he just came up and was like, just looked at my.
Starting point is 00:13:42 I think Will Smith's just used to everyone knowing who he is. So he'll just give out little like, hey, nice to see you, and my pose is like, wait, does he think he knows me? I'm like, I think that's just the way he behaves, just to give people little gifts of like, Will Smith, touch me, and I was like, you touched the hand, dude. That's the one.
Starting point is 00:13:57 I was like, whoa. This is the half. Yeah, that was, he, yeah. Yeah, no, it was a wild night. I thought, it was incredible. It was so long. It was really long. Compared to the Globes, my God.
Starting point is 00:14:13 Kanye getting kicked out? Well, I was on the way there when I saw, I'm looking at the feed, seeing who's showing up and I see his bride wearing nothing. I almost wore that. Earlier in the night, I changed out of that when I put on my dress. We were almost wearing the same thing earlier.
Starting point is 00:14:31 That was so sad to me. It's so sad. That's like a prank he's pulling on her every time because you know he controls what she wears because he used to do it to Kim. Oh yeah, and it's so sad that they weren't invited. He just did that as a stunt on the red carpet, and then they were quickly escorted out of it.
Starting point is 00:14:47 How did they even get on the red carpet? Like, I don't even understand. We had to go through so much security to get through to that point. I mean, people probably just assumed Kanye was invited. Yeah. You need tickets and stuff. I'm really, like, they had to, it doesn't matter.
Starting point is 00:14:59 Like, it doesn't matter that I was presenting. Like, not that anyone would recognize me walking in, but like, it doesn't feel like they just let anyone through no matter what. You gotta prove who you are. I think even Taylor Swift had to put her little purse through the thing. I can't even.
Starting point is 00:15:11 Could it be deeper than that? Like, oh, we let them in, then we kick them out. Oh, like it was some industry. Like a thief state kind of thing. You know what I mean? Did they let them in to kick them out? I just hate that she had to get all dressed up and then for nothing.
Starting point is 00:15:23 She had to put on all that air. My only argument is that I went to get all dressed up. Yeah, and then for nothing, you know Like she had to put on all that air my only argument like LA live after that Like smash burger. It was she did do similar things before they ever were together. So she did. Yeah, okay I don't want to say like I didn't look too much into it Her early work, yeah, I Know I didn't I didn't see them. I was like right after getting on the red carpet. I was in like the long line and there was like obviously a TSA pre-check
Starting point is 00:15:52 that I was waiting in line for like 40 minutes to go through this with everyone that was walking the red carpet that was not someone that was noticed, like recognizable. That would be swarmed. And then people are just coming through. And I was like, some people going through the celebrity line, I don't know who those people are. And then people are just coming through and I was like some people going through the
Starting point is 00:16:05 celebrity line I don't know who those people are and I don't I know that no one else does because they're not getting the photo taken that much so I need to get in that line they put me through that line and so I was like I saw I saw everyone I saw not Taylor though Taylor was at the very end and after I'd already gone through she usually shows up I think at the tail end But yeah, I got to... Got a photo with Olivia Rodrigo. Yeah, that was... We'll get into that next. That was wild. So while I'm on the red carpet, I'm next to this guy who was a producer
Starting point is 00:16:32 on Shabouzy's song. There's a really nice guy named Nevin. And I was like, Nevin, I don't have my phone with me. I gave it to Gen ZM, because I wanted to walk through the carpet without my phone hanging out in my tiny little purse. And so I was like, will you just get a picture of me with Olivia in the background? Because I was just like, ugh And so I was like, will you just get a picture of me
Starting point is 00:16:45 with Olivia in the background? Because I was just like, so I'm doing this, pointing at her, like, oh my god. And then come to find out she might have done the same thing to me had she known I was there. I'll tell the story later on, because it's a longer story. We have to go to break. But that was Olivia Rodrigo made my Grammy night,
Starting point is 00:17:06 including a couple other people, but it was, I mean, it was like one of the coolest things I'll ever get to go see and do in my life. It was like watching it on TV. It was like, this is like the best concert ever. Like, it was so fun. All the performances were incredible. I mean, Gaga did a little too much
Starting point is 00:17:24 during her Mamas and Papas, like. Oh, the California, I'd say I was behind it, so I didn't see what it looked like on camera. It's the first time I've ever seen my son openly mock something. He just started mocking Lady Gaga's dancing without us like. I didn't see the dancing. Oh, she was just going like, she was doing like,
Starting point is 00:17:42 like you remember when Jenna played Jackie Jormjom? She was doing Jackie there was major Jackie Jormjom at a J2R performance. That's so she was really embodying it like but it was oh it's great what a performance yes but Charlie X the Act like that was like I feel like my son's sexual awakening. Oh my god. Oh yeah. It was my sexual election. You started giggling. Well, we'll talk about all the performances and so much more when we get back after this. Everyone's forgotten who runs this valley. Listen and subscribe to Greatest Escapes on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. How serious is youth vaping? Irreversible lung damage serious, 1 in 10 kids vape serious, which warrants a serious
Starting point is 00:20:12 conversation from a serious parental figure like yourself. Not the seriously know-it-all sports dad, or the seriously smart podcaster. It requires a serious conversation that is best had by you. No, seriously, the best person to talk to your child about vaping is you. To start the conversation, visit TalkAboutVaping.org, brought to you by the American Lung Association and the Ad Council. Hi, this is Ruthie Rogers, host of Ruthie's Table Four. This week, my guest is Zoe Saldana, and what a woman she is.
Starting point is 00:20:43 I come from a family, and I do know this, that it's a cultural thing. We dance. If you failed a test, we danced. If you passed it, you know what I mean? You just dance. And you dance merengue, and you dance salsa. And everybody sits in someone's back yard.
Starting point is 00:20:57 Ba-da-ba-ba-ba-ba. Listen on the iHeart radio app, Apple, or wherever you find your podcasts. So we're back. Yeah. Noah's asking about Dochi. We don't know Noah's here. Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple, or wherever you find your podcasts. So we're back, yeah. Noah's asking about Dochi. We don't, Noah's here, but we don't have headphones, so we can't hear her, so she's texting Brian some questions.
Starting point is 00:21:13 Dochi, I love her so much. She won Best Rap Album, and I saw her, she was, I was doing an interview with, I think, ET or something, and as I was walking off, she was walking on, and I was like, oh, oh, oh, it was, I was doing an interview with, I think, ET or something, and as I was walking off, she was walking on, and I was like, oh, oh, oh! I was doing her song. Oh!
Starting point is 00:21:29 Oh! Um, and that was amazing to see. Her performance was like in the middle. Like, it was in the middle, so it was kind of hard for me to see, but I thought it was incredible. I thought it was a great medley of everything she does, and she's just such a, she's going to be someone that we're going to watch forever and know forever.
Starting point is 00:21:43 Her tiny desk is incredible. Yeah. She is, she's so good someone that we're gonna watch forever and know forever. Her tiny desk is incredible. Yeah, she is, she's so good. She has staying power, you could tell. Because honestly, watching it, I was like, oh wow, this is like, welcome. You are now a part of the music industry forever. It was like a statement piece.
Starting point is 00:21:59 Yep. I thought the whole best new artists medley where they go into each other was really well done. Oh, it was incredible. It was amazing. Like at the end of it, I was like, oh, wow, I now know these best new artists. Everyone found out who Ray was last night.
Starting point is 00:22:15 That was sick. That was like, felt like watching Whitney Houston live or something like the vocals on that was so insanely powerful. Even Teddy Swims, like his vocal, Benson Boone, who I was a part of his performance, which I got asked to rip his shirt off with Heidi Klum. That was so fun. So after the carpet, we get pulled back
Starting point is 00:22:33 to like go back to his trailer. And I'm back in this trailer area. It's like on a parking lot outside and a bunch of trailers. And I see Chappell Road and like getting her makeup done. And we're walking by and we go in Benson Boone's trailer. His parents are there. We're like talking outside. And then we go in his trailer and like getting her makeup done and we're walking by we go in Benson Boone's trailer his parents are there We're like talking outside, and then we go in his trailer and like choreograph it and rip it off and like kind of practice He's so chill so calm
Starting point is 00:22:52 So like you worried you might have a timber leg moment and pull it too hard I was just worried that I Just was I really wasn't worried about it. I don't know, it's got me. God forbid. Yeah, yeah. I was just worried that, I just was, I really wasn't worried about it. I don't know what I was worried about. I was worried though, because I didn't have control over the moment. I'm not talking, I'm like doing, it's a movement, which I'm not really great at moving.
Starting point is 00:23:16 Right, like if it goes wrong, you can't make a joke to save it. Yeah, it's a piece of choreography that you are just like one cog in, you're one cog in a machine. And it's like, it affects his performance. It's not my performance. Like if I do something stupid, it makes him look dumb.
Starting point is 00:23:30 And they've asked us to do this. And I don't really know the motivation. Is it funny what we're doing? Is it supposed to add to the, are we supposed to make him more alluring? And by the way, when I got asked to do it, I said that there was a funny note at the end, because they go, we are not able to offer you a presenting role, which I understand asked to do it, I said that, um, there was a funny note at the end, because they go, you know,
Starting point is 00:23:45 we are not able to offer you a presenting role, which I understand now, because everyone that presented was, like, a megastar. You're like, excuse me, I actually knew Quincy Jones. It's so embarrassing that I've heard of Quincy before. I have a song on Spotify. I watched Parks and Rec, and I believe his daughter was a big part of that.
Starting point is 00:23:59 Um, so, I, uh, they're like, we can't offer you a presenting role, but we were wondering if you wanted to rip Benson Boone's shirt off during his performance with Heidi Klum, which is, I was like, yes, oh my God. And then at the end it says, we wanna let you know he is 22. We want you to be aware he is 22,
Starting point is 00:24:20 which is like them kind of saying, you might look like a pedophile. But I'm like, isn't 22 is legal as fuck. Yeah, I checked like I don't I think in Utah. It's 14 Yeah, he even wrote to me being like I just found out Benson Boone's 22 I feel disgusting like why that's like I don't know why is it it's no problem with men like a guy That's younger. It's like I don't feel any sickness about being attracted to a 22 year old which I wasn't no I'm like he should be younger. But like, why would I need to be warned about that?
Starting point is 00:24:48 Like, why would that look bad on me as a four year old woman? Maybe they were saying like, he's 22, he's not 18. No, I don't think so. No, I don't think they were, because I think people mostly think he's older. And it's like, I don't think you have to apologize when someone's, like if he was 17, I understand them being like, maybe this isn't a good look, but he's 22.
Starting point is 00:25:06 I'm like, I'm sorry, Nicholas Cage is married to some, like I just looked today of like all the male actors who are married to people who are 35 years younger than them and I'm getting told he's what, I can't do that, but like 18 years, that's a lot. It is. The space between us, I can rip that guy's shirt off too. Yeah. I can rip that guy's shirt off too. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:25 I can do anything I want, but it was funny to me, they're like, we do want to let you know which way to do. I understand why they said it, but I kind of don't because I'm like, that's not a thing I should be ashamed of. And it wasn't like ripping off his shirt was me being like, I want to have sex with him or I'm going to. It was like, it's a reveal of an outfit. Yeah, it's a reveal of an outfit.
Starting point is 00:25:43 And it's totally implied that you and Heidi Klum want to have sex with her. Of course we would! That's why we got our boyfriends out of the picture to make them, they moved them out, they put Todd Glass in for some reason. They moved Chris and- Oh, this is a classic setup of ages,
Starting point is 00:25:55 like the graduate came out in 1970, and that was the same age difference or more. We all know about this age difference. I just wanna shout out to Benson Boone's team, and Benson Boone himself, who I believe chose me and Heidi to do it. Like, he wanted us to do it. They thought it would be funny They were so excited that we were doing it. He was so like Grateful that we did it so nice so easy to work with like I really thought it was something that the producers came up
Starting point is 00:26:18 With and maybe it was mm-hmm, but they seemed like thank you for doing this like his whole team was so great And then you did a fucking front flip Did that flip I literally I reacted like I was watching jackass I was like what the fuck like it immediately made me love Sweating and doing this. No, because he did it so elegantly and cool. When he landed it, he did a little hop. That guy. It was perfect.
Starting point is 00:26:52 Chris and I were talking to his parents and I was just like, what is it like to have a son this talented? I started looking at them. They're closer in age to me than Benson is, which is wild. And later I was talking to Chris and I was like, if we conceived a child tonight in 23 years He could be back flipping off a piano at the Grammys
Starting point is 00:27:09 We play it right like it's not that far from having a kid Yeah by a four year old Yeah Having a disgusting old woman peel off his clothing You know his story? With a woman that looks younger than her who is decades older. Do you know his story? Yeah, you think Heidi got the email just so you know he's 22.
Starting point is 00:27:29 Heidi got an email saying, do you know Nicky's 40? Oh my god. You know he was on American Idol and like... That's what I heard. Yeah, he like had a great audition. No, he left the show before the end of it. Because he was getting successful? Yeah. Yeah, that happens. Oh, he left the show before the end of it. Because he was getting successful. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:46 That happens. Oh, they let him win. I think, yeah. They probably like. He felt like the stank of it. Well, he never really remembered the winners of these shows. You don't remember anything. Well, it's kind of like.
Starting point is 00:27:56 Other than Ruben. One Direction, basically, they got a record deal before X Factor ended. And they're like, well, you're not gonna win because you already got something better. Right. It's, yeah, I think those shows are amazing opportunity but mostly like. Well America's Got Talent is a great show.
Starting point is 00:28:12 To you. Well the winners you remember because. Was that exciting for you that I was with Heidi Klum? Do you wanna ask any questions about her? Actually yes, it was more exciting to me because I am an AGT fan. Her fingers are so long. Oh, are they?
Starting point is 00:28:24 She holds up peace sign all the time on AGT and I'm like, wow, those are long, elegant fingers. She's a long specimen of a lady. She is at all time great. I love hiding glimpses. She's so hot and so perfect in person. Like gorgeous, funny, nice. She wanted to like, I'm not even kidding you,
Starting point is 00:28:41 she pitched loosely, but I know that she meant it, that we make out behind Benson after we rip off his clothes. And I was like, oh, I would totally do that, but not make out, but like really kiss. And I would totally do it, but I just didn't wanna steal the focus. Like I said to her, I was like, I would do it. And I think we should do something,
Starting point is 00:29:01 I don't think we should do anything after we rip it, like let him just take it because we could do something. And I was like, this isn't our Britney Madonna moment. So you just fingered her under the table. It was Chris like, I think you should make out with her. Yeah, yeah, yeah. She was so down, even when we were rehearsing it in the trailer, she was like, I could have kissed her.
Starting point is 00:29:19 Cause she was like, and then we kissed, and she like went in for it. And I'm like, I love this woman. She was so cool, so funny, easygoing like really it makes really nice She is as beautiful as she is like fun and cool beautiful on the inside and outside She really I think she's in I got I think I secured an invite to the Halloween party. Oh my god Yeah, that's gonna be like 30 hours of makeup for you Or I don't wear any and no one knows who I am
Starting point is 00:29:43 Or I don't wear any and no one knows who I am So that last year she was that was her party where she dressed up like an amoeba or something And she's like sideways on the red carpet like that was so hilarious Weird she is like she does not have to be weird. She's Heidi Klum. But she's like, she rocks. She really rocks. We got to sit with her the whole night. It was like her and her husband and from Tokyo Hotel.
Starting point is 00:30:13 I forget his name, so sorry. I don't think I ever got it. It was said and then I didn't collect it, but he's a famous and accomplished musician in his own right. They met at a party. I like asked about how they met. I was like, I bet she approached you. And she's like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:26 At first I tried to approach her and she didn't. She didn't. You think she's getting new dick as the worm? Yeah. Oh yeah, because everyone knows it's Heidi Klum. We all know what's in there. Tom Collets. Tom what?
Starting point is 00:30:37 Collets. Collets, Tom. I can't believe I didn't get Tom. Tom, you know. It's so simple. It was so simple. But they were so nice and so cool to me and Chris and they were sitting next to gaff again Who did a really funny bit making fun of the Lakers trade?
Starting point is 00:30:52 Yes. Yes, that was really good and Trevor came up to him and asked him to do that literally what right after his monologue He came and pitched him 20 minutes before he did that. Oh, that's great. It was so funny And then when you're why do you have live television? You know yeah happen in the moment it was it was cool By the way though your the pole your pole of his shirt was absolutely perfectly clean Oh, it was like it was like a magician pulling a tablecloth. I thought about it a lot. It was like a pedophile pulling I just went with my yeah, yeah, I um I thought about a lot I practiced it I like talked to his people about and the seamster guy Seamstress, I don't know what's the tailor the guy I talked to him about where the perfect place to grip it was
Starting point is 00:31:35 Heidi was more like yeah We're just gonna do this and I was like but then we rise when he says to lose You and then rip it on you and I was trying to but she just like it's she just knows how to fucking nail it I was like we need to practice She was kind of following your lead a little bit because you you like cued her like she was a little late Okay You had the comedy music timing and she had it she has the Fashion timing. Yes. Yes. She was yeah. She was on model time
Starting point is 00:31:59 Project Runway She was yeah A Vita Zane When Kendrick won And we kept each piece she was like like, are you going to keep yours? I was like, yes. She was like, let's keep them forever. It was really cute.
Starting point is 00:32:08 She was like, we need to get a picture with both pieces. And we never did. But she was like, she was so cute. I just realized I'm like a huge Heidi Klum fan. Because I used to watch Project Runway. I love Project Runway. It dawns on you, like, after you meet these people. Or like, you like hear a name and then you go, yeah, I like them.
Starting point is 00:32:23 And then after they walk away or after you take a second you go, oh my God, this and this, like I've had relationships with this person in my past that you kind of forget. Like Kelsey Ballerini, of all people, like I had seen her on the red carpet, I kind of saw her maybe in pictures when I was on my way there. And I like am obsessed with this one performance she did
Starting point is 00:32:43 at one of the VMAs of Penthouse, which is one of, I think, the greatest songs of all time. It's truly in my top 10. But there was this moment, I think I've talked about it on the podcast, where she was like, she looks like she's about to start crying, and it gets really awkward in the room
Starting point is 00:32:59 and the music kinda drops out. And then she just takes it back in her dress. It's one of the coolest performing Performance moments I've ever seen I showed it to Chris We've like analyzed it to be like how did her dress fall off? Where did it go? like it's the coolest thing ever and so I was obsessed with that song for a really long time and then I was sitting there during commercial break and Kelsey ballerini comes up and They're like talking to Heidi and then she's kind of like
Starting point is 00:33:22 Hi, I just want to say I like love so much. And she just looked such like a normal sweet girl that I just assumed she was just like, I just couldn't place it. And I go, what's your name? And she was like, my name's Kelsey. And I was like, oh, nice to meet you Kelsey. And then I'm like, and then what's your name? And then he was like, Chase.
Starting point is 00:33:38 And I'm like, Chase Stokes and Kelsey Ballet, it's all coming together. And then they keep talking to Heidi, and I was like, oh my God, that was so embarrassing that I didn't recognize her. And then I just go, Kelsey? She was like talking to Heidi and I was like oh my god that was so embarrassing that I didn't know like recognize her and then I just go Kelsey she's like yeah and I was like I love you and she was like you do and I was like I do I've studied you and she was like really and Emily told me that she was watching from like back and she saw Chase and Kelsey kind of
Starting point is 00:34:00 like being like she's right there like should we go talk like kind of plotting I don't know if that's what they were doing, but like. You had the upper hand, like you. I would have never assumed anyone would give a shit, but it was so sweet that, like all the things she said to me meant so much and like, just, it's so cool when someone that you've admired or like, you were just like so talented, has like is getting the same kind of jitters talking to you.
Starting point is 00:34:24 And I had that with her and it was amazing. And crit and I go do you know who that was and he's like Oh my god, you showed me the video so many times Which is so exciting and then we exchanged numbers. That's amazing. Oh my god. That's awesome fucking amazing What's your songwriting you can maybe hit? I don't know you're at the point where like if you want to write another song You'd be like, oh, yeah A couple I mean one song in my life I mean, I don't know you're like they I think be friends with them and then like, you know, like after like yeah be like Jam together. Yeah, I think I just want there. I have no motivation that way
Starting point is 00:35:03 I just do if I think being around it though like you absorb it Yeah, you're going to studio friends be friends. Yeah, no, I need a lot more hours under my belt But you know what's cool about the Grammys like you being at the Grammys for them Is that this is their like music space and you're a comedian being inserted in there It would be like if you're in a room full of comedians and you're like, yeah Chris Rock and is amazing Seeing all these people you see these people every day. But then if even, I don't know. Cee-lo.
Starting point is 00:35:28 Cee-lo came in. You'd be like, oh my god, that's Cee-lo? I remember when. Well, yeah, you're a real celebrity. I don't think of it that way. And Chris had to remind me, he's like, don't think of yourself as a fraud here. Think of yourself as the only person that kind of stands out in this room.
Starting point is 00:35:46 Yeah, of course. Did Herbie Hancock come up and talk to Jim Gaffigan? Yeah. You were nominated, man. Herbie Hancock. Yeah, it was nominated. It was like, that was. And you've been nominated for 30 things.
Starting point is 00:36:00 I mean, it's like, what age is Herbie Hancock? Oh, I think he's in his 80s. He's old, okay. Yeah. I'm not wrong. I would have thought he was dead, no offense.bie Hancock? Oh, I think he's in his 80s. He's old, okay. Yeah. I'm not wrong. I would have thought he was dead, no offense. He not dead? No, he was playing last night.
Starting point is 00:36:09 No, he was playing piano. Oh, yeah. Are you sure though, still? He was incredible. He was in the pocket. He was like truly so good. Like he was so good that he played piano for Stevie Wonder. He's a surprise.
Starting point is 00:36:20 Such a good point. It's all surprising. And since the Areva's so good, she sang for Stevie Wonder. Who saw it for him? I kept waiting for Stevie to sing, but he didn't. But he could have, because he gave us a little taste later on. He did. Because he just played a harmonica.
Starting point is 00:36:33 And I was like, when is he going to sing? And then Chris was like, maybe he can't now. And I go, but with that kind of, if you're able to like play, blow, and have that kind of control with your air, I think you can sing. And then so he just chose to just well I told you when I went to see Dave Chappelle's documentary screening at the Hollywood Bowl Stevie Wonder was there as a special guest Oh, yeah
Starting point is 00:36:53 And Stevie Wonder came out and everyone and Dave Chappelle was like and Stevie Wonder and everyone's clapping or like yes Superstition give us something and Stevie Wonder came out and he goes I just want to say that it is wrong to try to cancel Dave Chappelle, and you should be ashamed of yourself. And now I am going to go home to my wife. And he walks off the stage. That's what you can do when you're Stevie Wonder. Because you can't even feel like if you're, first of all, being blind.
Starting point is 00:37:18 I was realizing last night when he was talking, he has to memorize everything he says. There's no teleprompter for a blind person. And that is, like, hard to be a blind celebrity because celebrities be reliant on that. Even, like, the most from-the-heart speeches were in that teleprompter, I'll tell you. You know, so it's like, when he was talking,
Starting point is 00:37:35 I was like, what's he going off a man? Like, that's incredible. Uh, but he, um, yeah, that was really cool. And then, so, like like the best part of it, like the thing that I just couldn't even believe was when, it was towards the end of the night, and I had been watching Olivia Rodrigo throughout the evening because I knew she was there.
Starting point is 00:37:54 I thought she had one of the best dresses. She just looked amazing. Stunning. Stunning. Incredible. Stunning. Style is favorite artist. She's got good taste. Like Olivia's so legit. Yeah. She will be around forever.
Starting point is 00:38:05 She is- My wife, Allie. Um, yes, that's right. Your wife, Allie. Um- I love Olivia Rodrigo so much and I think she's the greatest. I think her albums have been perfect.
Starting point is 00:38:16 Perfect. And- She's so young too. Yeah, and she's really grown into herself. Like she is a fine young woman. She really is. Well that one song, that song that the most popular song of all, I just heard it for the first time
Starting point is 00:38:28 in a dentist's office. Good for you or a vampire? The one that's really, yeah, vampire. Yeah, oh, god. I mean, I didn't know it was Olivia Rodrigo. I was just sitting in a dentist's chair, which is what I do frequently. And I just heard this song, and I was getting amped.
Starting point is 00:38:41 And I was like, man, what is this song? And it's so rare that you hear a song like that for the first time, and you're just like, this song is amazing. My wife and I went to see her at I was like, man, what is this song? And it's so rare that you hear a song like that for the first time and you're just like, this song is amazing. My wife and I went to see her at the Intuit Dome and we were the only people our age there without kids. And the couple in front of us was talking to us. They have eight year olds there and they're like,
Starting point is 00:39:00 where's your child? And we're like, oh, at home. We're actually the best. This is awesome. This is adults night out. Yeah. We like her. You're right.
Starting point is 00:39:10 She's not for kids. She's for everyone. Like, I've loved her almost like at first, I wanted to fight it because it was like, there's no way someone this young can be this good and write this kind of songs I would want to listen to. And I don't know. I didn't dismiss it, but I was just like, the first song, Driver's License,
Starting point is 00:39:27 blew my mind and it came out during COVID, was listening to it so much. Then Deja Vu, I think I spent a really long time with. There's so many moments I've had with her music, very similar to my trajectory with Taylor Swift, kind of just had moments where it's like, this is gonna be my thing and couldn't stop playing her music
Starting point is 00:39:44 and just almost crying to her lyrics, and discovering pieces of myself. Anyway, it's been like that for her, for me. And then, so I'm watching her the whole time because I have like a perfect view of her. We're on opposite sides of the stage. She's all across the room. And when you're at one of those events in the crowd,
Starting point is 00:40:00 of course you're like looking, going like, what do they enjoy? Yeah, you're like, during commercial break, there's nothing to look at except the celebrities. And I don want to turn around but she's I don't have to turn Around to see her. She's right. Like I just have to turn my head slightly three o'clock and she's so far away She couldn't even see me staring at her. So it was like not risking anything by just and she's so cute She's there with her boyfriend and they're just they're being like lovey-dovey but not over the top and they just look like they're having their own Little good time. They're not like schmoozing too much. She's not, she's just, she's just adorable.
Starting point is 00:40:27 And then at one point I'm sitting there and I kind of look up and she's like kind of walking towards our section and there's no, I haven't seen her do that. No one's like crossing the rooms. Like everyone's kind of staying in the middle because that's where all the famous people are. And I'm, we're getting no traffic towards our side
Starting point is 00:40:41 because there's no reason to go over there. When you see Olivia Rodrigo walking in your direction the expectation that she is walking towards you is 0% yeah, you're like she's probably here. She's probably I'm serious. It was like a 2% part of me that was like maybe she is a fan like cuz it just happened with Kelsey Yeah, I was like maybe oh that is that you're right. It's in the realm of possibility. Yeah, at some point it has to hit you that... There might be some, so she's getting closer. It's like Will Smith's hand coming... But then I'm like, maybe they're pulling her backstage to go present, because it's kind
Starting point is 00:41:07 of like the way, but she already presented, and so I'm going through all the things, and I think Chris clocked her too, because Chris obviously knows who she is, because I've just listened to her so much, and Chris, I only know he's thinking this because later on he told me, like, we were both kind of watching, being like, she's getting really close. Like, oh, she must be, she's getting really close. I'm like, oh, she's getting really close. I'm like, oh, she's getting really close. I'm like, oh, she's getting really close.
Starting point is 00:41:15 I'm like, oh, she's getting really close. I'm like, oh, she's getting really close. I'm like, oh, she's getting really close. I'm like, oh, she's getting really close. I'm like, oh, she's getting really close. I'm like, oh, she's getting really close. I'm like, oh, she's getting really close. I'm like, oh, she's getting really close.
Starting point is 00:41:23 I'm like, oh, she's getting really close. I'm like, oh, she's getting really close. I'm like, oh, she's getting really close. I'm like, oh, she's getting really close. I'm like, oh, she's getting really close. I'm, I only know he's thinking this because later on he told me, we were both kind of watching, being like, she's getting really close. Oh, she must be saying hi to Heidi. It's like a meteor. Yeah. It's like, oh man, that's getting bigger.
Starting point is 00:41:34 Wait, was she at America's Got Town? Is that how she was discovered? I totally was like, maybe she has some backstory with Heidi because Heidi's literally right next to me and she just locks eyes with me and I think she's just gonna say something because maybe she recognized me and she's on her way to the bathroom or something.
Starting point is 00:41:49 And she just goes, hi, you're my favorite comedian and I had to come meet you. Her boyfriend's with her, she's like, I love you so much. And she's got this like wholesome, great voice and she's like, I'm sorry to bother you. And I was like, Olivia? Like to be able to even call someone by their first name. I was like, Olivia.
Starting point is 00:42:06 I was like, I can't even believe I'm saying her name to her. And just was like, you don't understand I, girl, I'm obsessed with you. And she's like, no, no. And I'm like, girl. And then we're both holding onto each other. And I'm like, I've studied you. And I couldn't think of what I wanted to tell her
Starting point is 00:42:24 because it's like, that's too much to say. That's not, I couldn't think of what I wanted to tell her because that's too much to say. That's not, I was like, I can't tell you how much I love you. I truly, and she was like, no, you! I make him watch everything you do. And she's like, yeah, she makes me watch, kind of the boyfriend thing. And she's like, I just had to say something. I'm sorry to bother you.
Starting point is 00:42:40 I'm like, you made my life. You are, you mean so much to me. And then Chris does the best. Chris takes a ton of pictures of us hugging. I have all these moments that are like, you made my life. Like you are, you mean so much to me. And then Chris does the best. Chris takes a ton of pictures of us hugging. Like I have all these moments that are like, I didn't want to post on my Instagram because it feels like it was like breaking her privacy. So we, but then Chris smarty pants went
Starting point is 00:42:57 and grabbed my friend, Kevin Mazur, I believe is how you say his last name, one of the best photographers in the business. And he's always my butt at these things. And he goes and grabs Kevin and is like, Kevin, come back. And he gets a picture of me and Olivia together. Like an official picture. An official picture that she's aware of.
Starting point is 00:43:10 But I do have my own pictures of us hugging and like her hugging me and like closing her eyes as she hugs me. This is amazing. Us like gripping onto each other. I mean, at last we talked for like two minutes. She's like, how's your evening going? Like this is fun, right? Like so normal. And I say that about a lot of people, like they're normal and cool. She said evening? She's like, how's your evening going? This is fun, right? So normal, and I say that about a lot of people,
Starting point is 00:43:26 they're normal and cool. She said evening? She's like, how's your night going? Oh night, she said night. I don't know, she's like, how is it going? Are you having fun? And she's like, yeah. And I was like, you guys are so cute,
Starting point is 00:43:34 I've been watching you the whole time, are you guys are having the best time? She's like, you know, we're a little tipsy, we're just having fun, we're having a good time. She's like, it's not drinking too much, but getting there and just enjoying the show. Oh my god. She was so sweet, so cool, Like she's like it's not too bad like not drinking too much, but like get kind of getting there and just like enjoy She was so sweet so cool and um and then um she walks away, and I'm like flooded with all the things I wanted to tell her that I didn't tell that go away in an instant
Starting point is 00:43:56 They feel like it lasted like like you're falling and it's lasting like 45 minutes I kind of wanted her to go away because I couldn't handle it right. Yeah, does that ever happen to you guys where it's like I'm so good. You're, I want it to stop because, yes, it's perfect and I don't want it to... You got to get out while you're on top. I don't even want to... I don't want her to find out I'm not cool. Yeah. You know? How many minutes would it have to have taken?
Starting point is 00:44:16 I think like it was just... it was... two minutes is all I need with someone. And then because I also didn't have time... I knew I wasn't gonna have time in that moment talking to her to like come up with what I needed to say to her. It's like winning an award, not planning an acceptance speech. You've got to think about what you're gonna say, because in the moment you will be flooded with so much adrenaline, you will forget her last name.
Starting point is 00:44:36 Like it could have like, I could have forgotten anything about her. Of course, like it's being in the moment so much that you're not actually able to pull out things. Like you can't say like, oh, I like this song and here's why I like it or anything like that. And then like, you don't want to be like, oh, you're getting tipsy, don't do it too much.
Starting point is 00:44:51 Like, they're not drive home. I was so uncool. I was just so like, just, I couldn't handle it, but it was so cool. It was one of the greatest gifts I've ever been given in my life is having Olivia Rodrigo be a fan of me. It's like, it just, it made me go, okay, I have a responsibility now.
Starting point is 00:45:09 Olivia Rodrigo is watching. I need to make comedy for her, not just for her, but like young girls, Kelsey Ballerini, Olivia Rodrigo are paying attention. Stuff that I do matters to them. Like I wanna think about, like what do I wanna bestow to them? Because they've helped me so much. And that's what I...
Starting point is 00:45:27 So I later on saw her at the valet. They're right in front of us. Her and, um, I forget her boyfriend's name. But they're waiting. And I pull up the picture that I took earlier that evening that Nevin took of me pointing at her, like, with her in the four, like, behind me. And I go, Olivia, just to prove that I'm obsessed with you,
Starting point is 00:45:43 I took the starlight. She goes, -"No, you didn't! No, you didn't!" -"I did." And I go, Olivia, just to prove that I'm obsessed with you, I took the starlight. She goes, no, you didn't. No, you didn't. That was like, I truly love you. And I collected my thoughts. Here's what I want to say to you. I was like, thank you for the song, Pretty Isn't Pretty. I heard that song the first time I heard it.
Starting point is 00:45:58 I really needed it. And I cannot believe someone who's so young wrote a song that helped me with aging. It's crazy that you were able to do that. You are one of the best artists that's ever lived. You're, I just, I can't wait to watch you the rest of your life. It was like, I got to say what I wanted to say
Starting point is 00:46:17 and whisk them. And then her car was, and I was like, your car is waiting, please get inside. Like, I don't want it, your driver is waiting. And then she drove off and I can't wait to go see her on the road and try to hit her up and be like, can I say hi again backstage? Like I just, it just, it was the coolest.
Starting point is 00:46:33 I don't even, I don't need anything else from her, actually, for the rest of my life. I don't know. Noah says Lewis Partridge is her boyfriend's name. Lewis Partridge, they were very cute. I hope they last forever. They're very young. I just want young love to last forever and ever.
Starting point is 00:46:42 I find her magical and I really love her I think she's amazing. That's so cool. She was so nice And it's also great to know like listen you are making traction with the Olivia Rodrigo's and Kelsey ballerini's and like yeah And like yes when we were in Atlantic City the crowd was like 45 year olds Italian men, and it's fun like those You were for everyone And it's funny, it's like, those, you were for everyone. That's their dad. You were for the people.
Starting point is 00:47:05 I'm making jokes for them. And I know, I'm learning who my audience is, but I feel like I do have, it made me feel like a musician. Like the way that music has affected my life and given me messaging that I needed to get through tough times. It's like, that's what these musicians
Starting point is 00:47:22 are probably relying on comedy for that. Like a thing they can't do to say the truth they have to talk in metaphors this girl gets to talk yeah like and just cut to the chase like I I need to I need to do as much as they're doing for me in that regard so it's like it was a new kind of calling coming for yeah moving forward not because I'm like I want celebrities to like me but it was just like she represents a young girl that, it's just, yeah, it was awesome that I could resonate with her,
Starting point is 00:47:52 she res, whatever, how you say that. No way. I'm like, Ursus. I mean, pretty isn't pretty, I remember, hearing when we, like, Erin and I were listening to that album that first morning, and when I heard that song, I said to Erin, Erin got a little upset when I said this, but I was like, wow, it sounds like being a girl is really hard.
Starting point is 00:48:11 I love that. I should have said this to her, but and we'll go to break. I love that song because it doesn't have a happy ending. There is no, you know, even TLC is like, you can dye your hair if it won't grow. You can get your nose. It was like, but you're so damn unpretty. It's like, but if you gotta look inside you, find out who am I to?
Starting point is 00:48:28 And it's like about like finding your worth, but that song is like, you're never gonna be pretty enough. And it's the system's fucked and like, it's just fucked. And no matter what you do, it's not gonna change. Like I like, I like that unhappy ending. It wasn't. That's a generational thing. I think. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:42 And it's such a bop. It is a goddamn banger. It's so good. Pretty isn't pretty. Okay, let's go to break and then we. And it's such a bop. It is a goddamn banger. It's so good. Pretty isn't pretty. OK, let's go to break, and then we'll come back with the final bop. The final bop. I once forgotten who runs this valley. Time to remind them.

Starting point is 00:51:10 brought to you by the American Lung Association and the Ad Council. Hi, this is Ruthie Rogers, host of Ruthie's Table Four. This week, my guest is Zoe Saldana, and what a woman she is. I come from a family, and I do know this, that it's a cultural thing. We dance. If you failed a test, we danced. If you passed it, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:51:32 You just dance, and you dance merengue, and you dance salsa, and everybody sits in someone's backyard. Ba-da-ba-ba-ba-ba. Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple, or wherever you find your podcasts. And we're back. So you had a moment with well the Kendrick Lamar moment where everyone said a minor at the same time Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I mean
Starting point is 00:51:52 Diss track I mean Drake has to be I mean Drake's just gone to his feel almost bad for him. He's just suing now. He's not even doing rap anymore I mean like even Jay-Z was dancing when they said A minor. It's wild. It's yeah, it was like um, there was something about like the answer is to choose violence. We learned last night. It's wild that that won. And you were wearing a Canadian tuxedo.
Starting point is 00:52:22 People are pointing that out. Hilarious. I didn't even catch that. To rub it in. I know, it'd be weird to know that. Emily is the biggest Drake fan, and I'm like, how do you feel? And she's like, it's okay, it's okay. I'm like, I saw a meme of Drake talking to Rihanna. Have you ever seen that one where he's talking to Rihanna
Starting point is 00:52:38 and she says something and he's like, ha ha ha. He's laughing so hard, it looks like he's trying too hard. I'm like, what does it make you feel when you see that? Do you cringe? She's like, I just front, you know, so hard, it looks like he's trying too hard. I'm like, what does it make you feel when you see that? Do you cringe? She's like, I just front, you know, there's some times that he does make me cringe, but I just love him so much. Listen, every picture of Drake and Rihanna,
Starting point is 00:52:54 I see myself in Drake. I think he's vulnerable and sweet, actually. I react with that to just her Instagram post. Yeah. I've seen her in person before at the Bowery Hotel. I would kill myself. I mean, it was. Oh my god.
Starting point is 00:53:09 She's gorgeous. I mean, it's obvious. That's what most of the hotel suicides are. Yeah, go to the top of the Bowery Hotel and jump off. I will say, I wanted to say who the most stunning people were in the room last night in person. And I didn't see everyone up close, but I have to give an award out,
Starting point is 00:53:26 because it was so insane how hot this person was in person. Casey Musgraves was truly one of the most beautiful people I've ever seen in person, where it like, it's, she's already like a 10 out of 10 without question on, you know, on Instagram, but in person, it was just like so stunning. And I usually am not one to be like, but in person, you don't understand.
Starting point is 00:53:50 They glow. Like I don't like when celebrities are talked about like that. It just makes me feel shitty. But her and JLo, JLo was also there, and I got to meet her in person for the first time. It was like we were old friends. It was great. She popped hard on TV.
Starting point is 00:54:04 She just looks so ridiculously It's just there's it's just next level. It's out of this world It's unfair like doesn't make sense like truly it feels like she came to earth on like a meteor I get like a crack to perfection it really they were two of the most stunning people Gracie Abrams Also, no, but I am such I'm so mad. I didn't I just like I don't know They were two of the most stunning people. Gracie Abrams also. Oh, did you talk at all? No, but I'm so mad I didn't. I just like, I don't know. I was thinking like, yeah, we are buddies.
Starting point is 00:54:31 Yeah. And have chatted and stuff. And I know she would not like to meet me. She wouldn't be annoyed by it, but I was just like, she's got a lot to do tonight. People are, and I kept looking over at her seeing if there was a window. But I would have to walk up, and people would kind of
Starting point is 00:54:47 watch me desperately. And I would have to interrupt her talking to someone else. And she was wearing a veil. I didn't want to interrupt her on her wedding day. That's why it's so good to have that. No, she looked. I just sent her, because we were chatting. And she was like, why didn't you say hi?
Starting point is 00:55:00 And I'm like, I'm so sorry. I was too shy. But I literally, I've never sorry. I was too shy. But I literally, I've never gotten goosebumps from seeing a picture of someone. And her beauty gave me goosebumps. I sent her a picture of my leg that I took a picture of to put up maybe on my Instagram.
Starting point is 00:55:15 Because I got goosebumps from looking at a picture of her. And then in person, I didn't really get a chance to see her because she was behind me. And you don't really want to turn around and just be like, gawking. You look like a loser. But she looked so stunning and then Olivia, oh my god, up close. That's why what Olivia did was perfect because it's like the queen is coming to you and it's like you know you want to be walking through the gravel. But Chris told me like you need to start going up to
Starting point is 00:55:39 people because you don't understand like the gift that Olivia gave you she could have convinced herself you oh she doesn doesn't wanna meet me. And I'm not no Olivia Rodrigo, but there are people that would be honored for me to go up and say I'm a huge fan. That might just, and it wouldn't take anything out of them to know that, and I might be giving them a gift that I don't know of.
Starting point is 00:55:56 Totally. So I should have said something, but I... Watching the people perform, are you like, oh, I see, you're so close to, do you see how they take over a stage? You know what's the fun part, are you like, oh, I see, like you're so close too. Just... Like, do you see how they take over a stage? You know what's the fun part? Do you learn anything from it?
Starting point is 00:56:09 And the fun part was seeing them after, because the camera would, like it would go off them and you got to see them kind of like... Oh, it's like a Zoom call? Yeah. Yes, you see like Chappell just kind of go like, it's over, and like kind of like, her shoulders kind of drop and like calm down,
Starting point is 00:56:24 or Sabrina Carpenter just kind of like, yes, I did it, it's over and I nailed it like her shoulders kind of drop and like calm down or Sabrina Carpenter just kind of like, yes, I did it, it's over and I nailed it. Like watching that moment or Charlie X-X and all those people like hugging and celebrating after all the dancers with each person was, that was a fun part and you kind of like see the real them in that moment. But yeah, I mean, Chapel was insane, it was perfection.
Starting point is 00:56:42 You just watching these people, you're like, you just feel so comfortable You're not worried about them at all even though I would be so nervous There was no point in the whole show where I felt nervous for anyone I mean it was so wild to me that like Sabrina Carpenter Not only did she have to sing her song in a different way at the beginning But she also do physical comedy back was why and it was flawless I want to I gotta watch, how that looked on camera
Starting point is 00:57:05 because it was cool in person, but. Her like little. Dropping the thing. Being out of the light. Oh, it was incredible. And I don't love, I love Sabrina now. I think Sabrina is Charlie Chaplin. She's so funny.
Starting point is 00:57:19 Sabrina's really funny. Like she, that was such a good performance. And then I will say hearing Cynthia Revo's voice in person was, I think I get into heaven now. Because I think there's something. Your ears hearing that live is like, I've never heard a better voice in my life. Like just more flawless and just so,
Starting point is 00:57:44 you just can't even believe it's coming out of someone, like that sound, it was so in control. And then the Ray was also that kind of vocal performance that just, we, Heidi was like, how do you spell her name? Like we were all like Googling her afterwards, like where have we been? I've been sleeping on this lady, she was incredible. And then Trevor, I've never met Trevor Noah,
Starting point is 00:58:03 but I want to say that he, right after he finished hosting the fucking Grammys, like it was like, cut, we're done, I'm making my way out. I'm talking to someone in the crowd who recognized me and like just taking a selfie with them. And he, I didn't know this, cause if I knew he was waiting, I would have been like, fuck you, like, you know, that's,
Starting point is 00:58:20 I would have just been like, hold on one second, I gotta get to this guy who just finished a show and has to go backstage and and meet a bunch of people. Trevor waits for me to finish having a conversation with these two people, and then just to tell me, great job on the Golden Globes. Amazing. And I've never met him before.
Starting point is 00:58:34 He was so flawless as a host. That's the show that I would always wanna host, but I'm also like, no, because it's, that's a room that does not get comedy. It's a thankless job. And for him to do a five years in a row where you can't really do a monologue with any real bite. No.
Starting point is 00:58:52 It has to be jokes about like Luca Donchic, where you're not making fun of anyone in the room. And then you have to be really somber at moments. And you just have to be as flawless as all the prof- you have to, there's a musicality to it. You just have to be you have to be cool Yeah, yeah, like isn't cool, but he is I think he's just that's not a job that I would want The Grammys yeah It was um he was that was really awesome and like really meant a lot to me Went through the same thing like not many people feel
Starting point is 00:59:26 That pressure yeah, like you're one of I don't know but he's been trying He just seemed like I just love watching someone who just doesn't seem tense I think that's the ticket like that's the best thing about Celebrities when you're watching person people like who aren't nervous and are just so expert at something that looks so hard Yeah, and just seem to do it like Benson Boone just like chilling before his debut at the Grammys as a best new artist and having like the kind of swagger of someone of like a Stevie Wonder.
Starting point is 00:59:52 Like the idea of... Was wild. The idea of being 22 and like a lot of America doesn't know who you are and then you're gonna be performing in front of Taylor Swift, Beyonce and like every major producer that you want to impress and just be like, I don't care.
Starting point is 01:00:07 I'm gonna do a fucking flip. I'd be worried about the flip. I'd be worried about the flip. I'd be worried about the flip. And then Nikki Glaser and Heidi Klum are gonna rip off my tuxedo. He was so cool. Because if he does that flip and he lands on his face,
Starting point is 01:00:17 his career is over. I don't think so. No? But there's no chance he would. He's done that flip a million times and never fall. And you don't understand, this is the thing I wanted to talk about in that goddamn book the anatomy of a break or the The what's it called? Whatever the breakthrough book? I'm reading let it be it was It was talking about laying the flip. I don't I think I told you this weekend about this
Starting point is 01:00:39 But I don't think I said on the podcast there was a thing about the free solo guy Yeah, and the day this on the podcast? No, you told me about that. Yes, but he was able to... Like, we think about that guy who just does El Capitan without any harness or anything or ropes. I've always thought, like, wow, he just gets lucky and he's very obviously skilled at it,
Starting point is 01:01:01 but when he does that, he has no question that it's gonna go great. Because he's done it literally as many times as possible with the ropes that it's never gone wrong. And if he has any doubt, if it's raining, if the dew point is off even a margin, if he's like feeling like his throat's a little sore, he won't do it. He only does it when he knows for sure everything's in place for it to go well. So that, what you learn from that is there was no risk for him ever. There was one climb he did where there was a little bit of a weather thing that happened
Starting point is 01:01:29 that made him go away that he hadn't gone before. And he realized that there was a thing that he was going to do that was like 50-50 of he was going to die. And he had to do it because he had gotten himself into this corner. And he said, I'm never doing a climb again. He did it. But he said, I'm never doing a climb again where I'm not 100% sure for everything. So you don't have to worry about that guy ever
Starting point is 01:01:47 because he is mitigated for every risk that could ever happen. And I realized that's what we did with the Golden Globes and the roast is we did, I thought doing all that repetition was about like finding the greatest jokes to do. And it is that, but it's really about doing it so many times that going into it,
Starting point is 01:02:04 I had no worry that it was gonna kill. There was nothing in that set that I hadn't done perfectly. There was no margin of error. That's what you have to do. And Benson Boone has done that flip so many times. To us, it looks like, what if he fell? But he's done it so many times, there's no chance he could fall.
Starting point is 01:02:22 He has no doubt. And so he can do it with ease. No Doubt the other concert live aid. Oh, yeah. Yeah, they did know to no doubt songs. Oh, yeah, Stephanie Did I say no doubt? Oh, yeah, there was no doubt. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I'm surprised They weren't I think it would have I think it would have been worse if he instead of falling on his face if he did The flip and he looked like it was hard. I think that would have been worse if he was like, yeah It was so flawless. Yeah, so cool. Yeah Do a flip right now I've always I believe in you the dew point's right
Starting point is 01:02:53 No, it's a huge it would be so cool to be able to do a backflip Backflips off bar tape and it gets them laid within seconds. Yeah, it's like it's kind of like Yeah, it's unbelievable wealthy people acrobats You know them all They're all just doing flips and counting cash Yeah, so cool being close to it. I love that you're rubbing STL on your hat. What is that? Nailed that I fucking nailed that you know when you say st. Louis 3,000 times you did live there for two years Yeah, I feel like it's part of me. Yeah, absolutely. It's part of you. That's a hell of a long time the golf course there
Starting point is 01:03:37 Okay, shout out to that What's the park tree court wait where is it the part that we live next to it? Oh park forest park. Yeah, I love forest park. It was great. It's bigger than Central Park I know yeah, you remember it's calling you back calling me. Yeah that and that one Thai place I know wait I thought I took my dogs to the forest park the other week and All of a sudden they got like and I like looked around and there was a fucking huge ass coyote wolf thing that I'd never seen before. I'm like, if I wouldn't have seen this, it wouldn't have been a snowy day
Starting point is 01:04:09 with a lot of snow where you could easily, they would have, it would have gotten them. And I was like, do I report it, but then they might kill it, so I just fed it Marianne. I feel like it's her time. I didn't eat the whole thing though, no more. I really was like, oh, it looks so hungry. I was going to go get it like some food,
Starting point is 01:04:27 but then I was like, it probably won't be when I get back. I'd be bad for it. Really? Yeah, you're definitely not supposed to feed coyotes. Really? Then they'll stay there. Oh.
Starting point is 01:04:35 Then they'll become reliant on human handouts. OK, good to know. Thank you guys for listening. The podcast will be back tomorrow with more. Thank you for listening.
