Starting point is 00:00:00 So good. Nope. Jolene Jolene Jolise. Ready. Ready to. Oh, sorry. So slow. Oh, my bad.
Starting point is 00:00:36 All right, welcome back to episode 0124 of the OK podcast, powered by the Strength Co. I'm your host, Grant Broji. And we are in mourning right now over the loss of an American legend. Dolly Parton, 80 years old. Bible says 70 years, if 70 years is good, 80 if due to strength. She's obviously a strength co-person. So she made it to 80 and life well lived.
Starting point is 00:01:00 I will tell you I'm a little, we'll probably talk about this later, but I was a little upset. I don't have a Dolly Parton record. And I went looking for a Dolly Pardon record. And you know what I thought. So I thought I had one, but I was, I was confusing it with the cover of, Who's the Son of the Preacher Man album?
Starting point is 00:01:18 Dusty. Who sings that song? Come on. Loretta Win? Come on. No. Dusty Springfield. Dusty Springfield. So I was picturing that, you know, beautiful blonde hair.
Starting point is 00:01:31 The album covers from about the neck up, so you can't really tell if other things are similar to Dolly. But I was picturing that. Finger nails. The thing that I got. It's actually never seen Dolly Parton's face. I must have a Dolly Parton vinyl. I didn't. But then I have all these country classic finals where it's like I have a three-part series
Starting point is 00:01:55 from the United States Air Force. Ah, go Tigers. Air power. Air power. Where in each album is or each set is five vinyl's front and back. And it's a radio show from 1970 that the Air Force did. And you got Johnny Cash and you got, you know, Johnny P. paycheck and you get all these people in there. I thought for sure, Dolly's on there. She's not on there.
Starting point is 00:02:19 And then I went to another one that I had. Similar thing. It's called country music time that I got from my grandfather's collection. And I know there's various, you know, all the names are slipping me right now. But there's all kind of class singing there. And she wasn't on there. Then I was like, what about Willie and Friends? I got an album called Willie and Friends. She's not on there. So I don't own a, I didn't go through all, I think I have about three. 300 albums extensively, but I definitely don't have her as a headliner anywhere. So sad for me. But RIP to Dolly Parton, I've been to Dollywood.
Starting point is 00:02:56 That was, you know, you're not allowed to go to Disneyland as a Baptist, but you can't go to Dollywood. So what there is a child. But anyway, back to the show. We just want to, you know, we want to pay a respect. Episode 1-24, 0-124 of the OK podcast, powered by the Stranko. I'm your host, Grant Broie. The price of Bitcoin, $78,380.
Starting point is 00:03:14 We have been booming this week. We've been on a roller coaster ride that never seems to drop. If you, let's just do some simple math for you. Okay, I'm going to break this down for you, real easy. If at episode one, we told you to buy Bitcoin, you would put in $100, it would now be $200. If you would put in $1,000, it would be $2,000. Yes. So, Trey, you're picking up when I'm putting down.
Starting point is 00:03:44 I can go as far as we need to make the listeners. I'm not quite getting, I'm not quite grasping economics. Jeff, if we had done $10,000. Yeah, yeah. Okay. Then it would have been worth $20,000. Oh, okay, okay. Do smaller.
Starting point is 00:04:01 If you put in $8. Yeah. There you go. Oh, we should do smaller. So if you'd put in 50 cents. How did you do that? Magic grants, grants. Grants.
Starting point is 00:04:12 Well, the stock market is magic. so, you know. You know, I just learned I can do on here. What? You see that? I did see that. That's so cool. Are we back?
Starting point is 00:04:24 Yeah, you're back. You froze up for a little bit. Yeah, you're back. Okay, so anyway, if we had put in 50 cents. Okay, it would be a dollar. Oh. Yeah, yeah. How much did 50 cent put in?
Starting point is 00:04:35 Did he buy Bitcoin when the show started? He put in 50 cent, which is different. So now he just has a dollar. Okay, okay. Well, you know. Whereas if he had put a $0. He would have a dollar. You know what it reminded me of?
Starting point is 00:04:50 I think I guess it was to a podcast and you were talking about the Air Force thing and Johnny Cash was on it. Do you know when he was in the Army? He was the one who intercepted the radio call that Stalin died. Did you heard that? Yeah, that's what they call him a buck sergeant. He's in the Air Force. He was Air Force guy.
Starting point is 00:05:06 Yeah, he's Air Force. Whatever. They're very proud of that here. They're very proud of that. Air Power. Also, Drone here in studio. You're in Montgomery, Alabama. That makes sense.
Starting point is 00:05:14 We're just proud of the revolution around here. Also joining me here in studio is Major Jeff Bouget, Major Jeff Buege. And I have something to say to the listeners. We have been identifying him in a drilling status since July the 1st. But I have an apology to make. If he said anything off color in July, you want to take it, put it on your only fan site. Go ahead. Because in my mind, you're not unduelly fan.
Starting point is 00:05:44 unless you're getting paid. There's only two things you'll mess with, and that's food and chow. But he's getting paid now, so we're all happy about that. Probably hasn't gotten paid for his household goods or, you know, probably not getting BAA or anything like that. But at least he's got enough to put, you know, two hots in a cot in front of him. He's coming from the Greater Salt Lake City area of Montgomery, Alabama. If you looked at Utah on a map and you kept making the radius go out, you'd eventually find Montgomery, Alabama, and that's what they call Greater Salt Lake City. He's not a Mormon. He's a cat guy.
Starting point is 00:06:19 He's also not an Air Force guy for those new listeners. I know we've got a lot of new listeners from the Navy War College. Guys, you should go back to reading Thucydides right now and not listen to this. But in any event, Jeff Bougier, a great guy, better at not getting paid by the Marine Corps. I'll also join us. He's the best. Some say the best. He's on the road.
Starting point is 00:06:40 We haven't done this bit in a while. It's called the where is tray. And we pick a city in Texas. And when we say we pick a city in Texas, meaning we just guess a random word that we assume is a city in Texas. Because when the literacy rates about 50%, then there's a lot of fun words that are out there. So we'll just go for it.
Starting point is 00:07:01 I'm going to say that he is in Bethlehem, Texas. That's got to, that's for sure one. That's got to exist. somebody was like, I don't know how to read, but Jesus was born Bethlehem. I'm going to go up in the panhandle. Okay, there's a Bethlehem, Georgia. There's a Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. We got a Bethlehem, Texas, indeed.
Starting point is 00:07:25 And it is, let's see. Let's zoom in way out. It is. You zoom out too far. You'll be the greater solid area. I know. I don't want to be in the greater solid area. It is basically directly east of Dallas.
Starting point is 00:07:42 Uh, I'd say, oh yeah, just north of Kilgore. Just North to Kilgore as what we always, we always, everyone knows where Kilgore is. Let's just go there, go north. If you, if you go east of Bethlehem and hit Kilgore and then go northeast, you'll actually run into Toledo. Because that's where all roads go. All roads. So if you're, if you're looking for a fun road trip, Kilgore to Toledo. Uh, this podcast is brought to you by BW Tax. Tax. B2 Tax, tech's great guy, better at taxes.
Starting point is 00:08:11 You know, we make the joke, it's not really a joke. We just make the statement all year that the best time is starting to next year's taxes today. But I'll tell you this, it's almost September 1st, which means the fiscal year and Marines, there's two different things. There's a physical year and a fiscal year, but the fiscal year's about over. And when the fiscal year ends, you know, tax season's just right around the corner. So if you don't want to be an idiot this year, scrambling last minute and not have a nice
Starting point is 00:08:39 gym or a nice rebate back from the IRS to buy gym equipment. I would recommend you get started now. And, you know, some of you guys, you think you're established, think, oh, I owe the business, I got a CPA already. I know what I'm doing. Listen, BW. Tax. And don't let AI confuse you here, okay? Don't let this is a common misconception right now.
Starting point is 00:09:02 Everyone thinks AI answers the mail. If there's one thing that I could tell you more than ever, is that people want to know that there's someone real on the other end. And I will give you an example. When I started slinging weights in 2020, we went way out of our way to have a photo booth with white backgrounds. My wife, Diane and I would be ironing sheets and doing lighting, which can all now be done with AI.
Starting point is 00:09:29 You know what people want to see? They want to see 3,045 sitting on the floor of a warehouse with a bunch of crap in the background so they know that it's real. and if you call B2B taxing, you're a real person and a real guy. You got a lot of college football talk about this week. We got a special guest coming on the show in about 20 minutes. So don't worry, we got time for the staff brief. But speaking of college football, if you don't own a helmet,
Starting point is 00:09:54 now it's time to get a helmet. One size does not fit all. But if you got any ants at home, they might want a miniature helmet. If you got any NFL players at home, they may want a helmet. it, you know, but you can get a helmet and get all your teams. Virtually almost every team, get almost all the military services. Definitely get Border Patrol if you're looking for that. If you can't, Traybysmal.
Starting point is 00:10:18 One of one day, by them. Are you border patrol or you ICE? Border Patrol. With or without advisor? I have it with advisor. Yeah, you don't want to know who's coming to. Yeah. Yeah, you know what they don't want to, you can't let them know where you're looking,
Starting point is 00:10:35 what part of the border you're looking at, patrol it, you know? Yeah. Yeah. So anyway, thanks for tuning in. Today's date is August the 25th in the year of our Lord
Starting point is 00:10:49 26, which means I'm one week away from a due date. So if I run away in the middle of the show, it's because I'm doing a homebirth inside a squat rack, you know, using chalk and 1.25 pound
Starting point is 00:11:06 plates to catch the baby as I've always done. But yeah. So with that, I'll turn it over to the three. Hey, all right, good stuff. We're a little, I'm a big cyber domain guy now, big cyber warfare domain guy. So we got to be thinking about being in a denied environment. This is multi-domain, by the way. All domain. I'm going to give back to the three, but we're live on X.
Starting point is 00:11:33 You can watch us on YouTube. I just posted a story. on Instagram. We're on Riverside. All over truth right now. Trades on truth social. Jeff's on only fans. We are a multi-domain, all-domain fight.
Starting point is 00:11:49 And that's how we get the word out there. Back over you. Okay. Well, we got to be thinking enemy has a vote, so we might be in a cyber denied environment. So I went ahead and I deleted everyone's slides. So it'll be no slides. We're going to do this rapid fire brief off the dome. All right, I'm going to pepper you with questions and you better have answers, okay?
Starting point is 00:12:09 I'm looking for answers. All right, S-1, are the numbers bumping? Yes, they're bumping. I failed out of the A&S one back here now. Okay, hey, great. Okay. All right, S-2, is the Strait of Hormuz open or closed, and where did you get this information from? That's you, Trey.
Starting point is 00:12:28 Sorry, I'm using the raised-hand function of the app here. No, we're in a cyber denier. We are a denied environment. been that for the last 15 days. Yes, sir, Stridermoremoos is currently closed. I got that from WWW. Is the Strangor Moos? No, wrong answer there, too.
Starting point is 00:12:46 We are in a denied environment. Where are you getting the information from? I need you to go ahead, get in the map room. We obviously have a map room with a laminator and start looking at the map. This is Lieutenant Pinelli, Deuce. I think when he says it's cyber denied, it means you can't use the Internet. That's why I'm using my platoon command as notebook to track the regiment. Okay, we'll remediate, we'll remediate.
Starting point is 00:13:09 There we go. Okay, it looks like you got... That's good, taking notes. Always got your note taking gear. Okay, over to S3. Close. I went ahead. I'm not participating in this exercise, so you'll see my slide up here. This is the one chief, I kind of believe in the Illuminati.
Starting point is 00:13:30 So if I want to know if the straight-up move is open or close, I just pull out a $2 bill. And if you look in the back, you can see there, sir. It's closed. And they planned it to be closed since the founding fathers. Oh. For the group.
Starting point is 00:13:49 Okay. Thank you. Thank you. I'm sure you have a stone mason's meeting to get to. Sir, this is the deuce real quick one more time. Okay, yeah. Let's try again. Yep.
Starting point is 00:13:58 To add on to that, if you're staying on one side of the straight-of-horred moves, a lot of people don't know this. You can see straight across it. Okay, okay. It just proves the earth is flat. So you can see both sides of the straight. Does that make sense? That's great.
Starting point is 00:14:14 That's the analog method. I like that. That's good to go in a cyber denied environment. That's good. Hey, brother, if I could real quick, just five here. I know we're both in, you know, P&E right now. A, do question for you. So if you're on one side of the Hormuz and you're looking over the straight,
Starting point is 00:14:29 which is water, what would Mahan say? would requisite it be an open or close. How many vessels were we talking about? Where are those vessels from? How far is the country extending their power, their sea power? Would you view the sea as a big common, a line of communication, a highway, or potentially a cage for an invader? And then follow up, would you say we're commanding the sea or controlling the sea? and if so which one and why it's more important gentlemen i apologize i have not read klauswitz
Starting point is 00:15:08 uh this is my hand this is mahon for some of you excuse me i i have read ncdp uh tact two um and it says just if you go to the website and it says no we're in a cyber we're in a cyber domain understood sir i'm just saying you you broke out the pub you're consulting the pub that's okay you got you got good habits. We're on the right, but we just got to refine that and polish that diamond to make you a war fighter. Dudes trash five here. If you want to come by and talk sea power, I can whiteboard it for you. We can work a thesis statement. A couple counter arguments. Come by the office. You're supposed to say yes, sir, there. Oh, yes, it right away. Okay, okay. All right. Hey, we're moving along here. Still rapid fire, S4. How many dumpsters do we currently?
Starting point is 00:16:00 have operational and if we have any of their deadline what is the expected date that they will return to fully mission capable a great question three yeah the this cage star major came to me this past weekend and said
Starting point is 00:16:16 he checked them all out so we currently have none oh there he said he's and I quote him here big old bow sir this is the four alpha I'm coming in on a sloping V from the Cajun Major's house.
Starting point is 00:16:31 Yeah, we got you loud and clear. I'm going to put him on the line in a minute. But all the dumpsters are operational. Sorry, switch over to Satcom. 4 alpha out. Okay, good. That's why I would keep this radio here in the conference room at all times. Because we have some outline stations that call in via green gear.
Starting point is 00:17:00 That's good to go. that trash is good to go. That's good to go. I do love when he switched to HF and the latency, that was great. Very realistic, very realistic. I mean, it was real. I mean, yeah, it was obviously real, obviously.
Starting point is 00:17:14 Yeah. I don't want to ask you. I'm a real, yeah. 40 and slip or something there. Okay. Clubs with seeing slip. I think it was more of a Germanian slip and I don't, yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:26 We'll get offline. We'll get offline. We'll get to my P.A's brother. You got a new one, real pine forward. Oh, brother. Yeah. I view 6, 100. No, knock your socks off. I love it.
Starting point is 00:17:38 Yeah. Oh, brother. Coyote tan boots socks. Yeah. It's unfiltered. It's great. Dude. Yeah, man.
Starting point is 00:17:44 Oh, sounds great. Sounds great. All right. Four great brief there. Four alpha. Excellent. Excellent work chiming in on the slop in V. All right.
Starting point is 00:17:54 S6. No problem, sir. All right. S6. Yeah, I got nothing for you. You know, just I'm sure you're, you're in the trenches, fighting the record jackets, as always. So this is the S6.
Starting point is 00:18:12 I'm actually also at the Cajun Serg majors. We are having a time over here. Oh, tigers. Okay. This is a regimental X6, Kyle Rimpy. I'm actually at the club right now. Coms are hot, baby. Get your iPod plugged in?
Starting point is 00:18:36 Oh, yeah. Turn the music down a little bit. Okay, hey, great stuff, S6. All right, all right. Medical, we got anything. What's the status on the shot X? Do we have all the flu shots that are no longer required? What is the status of those?
Starting point is 00:18:56 What are we doing with those? Yes, sir. This is the medical officer, Lieutenant Bramble Mangolin. And I just want to say that now that we're in a cyber domain environment, everyone is he, everyone. He sounds like a Toledo name, strong Toledo. Oh, yeah. I'm from Toledo. You came in on the road.
Starting point is 00:19:20 Okay. Yeah. Actually, it was a minor league baseball player. Played for the mudhins. I didn't make it. So I joined the Navy. But yeah. Bramble man.
Starting point is 00:19:28 But anyway, in this cyber domain environment, step one for medical. is to give everyone a shot, regardless of when you've had it last, because we don't know when you've had it anymore. And so we're going to need all hands to the medical department. Time now, actually, sir, if I could request, I know I'm just a lieutenant in the Navy. But if we get in this meeting, I'll start with trash six and just shoot them all up. And then we'll immediately go into dental exams. Perfect. That sounds like, yeah, Red Star cluster. We're popping that thing. We're sending that thing. Okay, we're going to get all all hands. It'll be a requirement.
Starting point is 00:20:03 We're going to send runners, right? We're still in the denied environment. So we're going to say no cell phones, no emails, no teams. So we're going to get a bunch of runners to get out there and get the word out. So we'll probably be here until 0-2 in the morning, tracking everybody down. But this is a no-fail mission. Love that. Good stuff, LT.
Starting point is 00:20:22 Thanks for the support, sir. It's that blue-green Navy team. We got it. We got to be joint team. You know, we're out here with the Air Force. You're there with the Navy. We've got the Marines. Like it's just, you know, we got to be always be touching tips.
Starting point is 00:20:33 If you add enough, you just got a rainbow. It's great, sir. It's great. It is great. Good to have you here. Good to have you board shipmate. You know, I like to, I like to say that. You know, we're in a building, but, you know, it's fun to call it a ship.
Starting point is 00:20:44 You get the bulkhead and, yeah. The peeway. Yeah, sir. Yeah, sir, just thanks for not calling me, Doc. Oh, yeah, no problem. No problem. Yeah. Wait.
Starting point is 00:20:53 Are you, you're met. Oh, okay. Doc. Yeah, I appreciate you. No, I'm that kind of doctor that's not an actual doctor. Oh, okay. have in the Navy. I forget what they're called, but we're medical officers, but we're not doctors. I'm one of those. Okay. Okay. I'm just using it kind of as a stepping stone for my civilian career.
Starting point is 00:21:09 I'm actually getting out in three months. I can't wait. I hate it here. But I mean, no, I love trash battalion, but I just the uniform, the PT. It's a little much for me. I get it. I get it. Okay. I don't really cut my hair, but yeah. Okay. Okay. Pressing on, pressing on, keep the expediency of this brief going. Let's see. Cajun, Sergeant Major, this is Trash 3 Radio Check, over. Yes, sir, gentlemen, how are you doing
Starting point is 00:21:37 over there? What you said? Just over here at the ball. You know, having all the lieutenants over doing a little P&E, you know, talking about how to make a proper gumbo, talking about how to boil some crawdads,
Starting point is 00:21:53 some little mudbugs, drinking some of that cool as light. What's that New Orleans beer that we were talking about? Albeda? Hey, Sarmajor, trash five fear.
Starting point is 00:22:07 Yeah, I think it's called Albiata. But I just want to say, Saramager, are you excited for football season? All of us college grads are super excited for it. Are you excited for it? Did you go to LSU? No. But great question.
Starting point is 00:22:24 No. but my cousin my cousin used to live by Tiger Stadium and so that's how you know he's just proximity breeds love sometimes and that's how I found love
Starting point is 00:22:40 go Tiger that's what I've always said about my wife yeah oh yes that's a good one I know you got that one I know you got that one I know you got that one
Starting point is 00:22:51 I'm sorry major yeah okay gentlemen yeah Do you all actually have anything important to talk about? Because I got to go. Do you have any further guidance on baby leave? Baby leave. No, usually we don't want into that issue because most of my Marines are already on leave due to the boils that they attend.
Starting point is 00:23:17 So it's kind of not necessary. But if you need some, come on over. I'll give you a week of leave. You enjoy that baby. Just, you know, we'll line it up. Bring that baby over for the, for the gumbo, and we'll be good. So you tell me if I bring a newborn to the boil that you'll give me a week of leave if I have the baby as evidence? Yeah, well, you make it sound weird whenever you say that.
Starting point is 00:23:41 But, yeah, just bring that baby over, you know, we're all family. We're all family. Now, do you have anything important that you want to talk about? Or can I go back to the ball? We got nothing else for you, Cajun Sergeant Major. Yeah, we appreciate it. Okay, yeah, yeah, over and out. Go tag it.
Starting point is 00:24:03 All right, all right. You're not watching YouTube. You're an idiot. That is true. That is true. All right, let's hit Outlying Stations. We did have a few check-in. First one, Billy Mitchell.
Starting point is 00:24:14 hasn't checked in in in a while, so good to see Billy Mitchell is still up and out, up and running, getting in the fight. He said, couldn't think of anything to ask. he prompted Grant Bot to see what he wanted to share. And what Grant Bot wants to say is, I would like to make a formal request for the OK podcast to cover the one topic America is avoiding
Starting point is 00:24:37 why every outlying station needs a squat rack. Hmm, interesting, interesting. Good job, Grant Bot. Good job. I feel like we've talked about that before. So Grant Bot clearly not a listener of the podcast. So that's embarrassing for you, Grant. Why doesn't Grandpa promote something that the strength code sells?
Starting point is 00:24:57 Hmm. Seems like there's a coding error. Idiot. Thanks, Warren. Next, next outlying station. We got John Kay, Trash Six. This is Colorado. New company, new PT schedule, sitting here and joining the sunrise, drinking some coffee.
Starting point is 00:25:16 I've had worst mornings. All secure, sector seven. Okay, so I know we got a big package headed to John Kay. some point. Yeah. Maybe. Is he an artilleryman? I don't know. We need a little, hey, listen, we need some back. We're Marines there, John.
Starting point is 00:25:36 And I've probably met him at the Arnold and he's told me his life story. And if I have him, sorry, John. Got your address here. Not going to put you on blast. What is it? Cyberdenied environment. Right. environment.
Starting point is 00:25:51 He reads FM4Tac25.1.2. I think he's, he must be a 13 Bravo. Okay. Anyway, we'll find out one day and then he'll get his package. Yeah, there we go. There we go. Hopefully he has a package. It's a IT Department of War.
Starting point is 00:26:10 Yes, exactly. Yeah. All right. And then I didn't see anything from the chaplain. I don't know if he went. direct line. He went Dura Luth. Hey, it's trash.
Starting point is 00:26:19 Oh, you got one still three. I got one and then we'll kick you over. I read what the chaps had to say. Chaps hit me up about five minutes ago. Go ahead. Good to read. Finish what you got. All right.
Starting point is 00:26:28 We got Trash 6-9 checking in. That's a.k.a. Shawnee one more, aka Billy Martin, aka I can drive. It says Trash 69, checking in here after being on the lamb for a minute with a classic quote from Daniel Tosh. Okay, it's a quote.
Starting point is 00:26:45 Just want to preface that. This is a quote, not the thoughts and opinions of the OK podcast, although we may agree with some of it. This is a quote from Daniel Tosh. Women can do anything men can do except math, chess, running, jumping, lifting stuff, fixing things, making money, hockey, surfing, driving, making decisions, being tall, taking out the garbage, tipping, fishing, being funny, on purpose, reading a map, listening to good bands, writing, running the country, inventing anything important, or being fun to hang out with, end quote. That's a quote. That's a quote. It's a quote. Not our words, not my words, not trades words.
Starting point is 00:27:22 Clip it. Clip it. Duncan Down is across the screen. So, you know, it's real. Clip it. And once he starts getting paid, he'll get in trouble. This just hit my timeline. Oh.
Starting point is 00:27:33 You know the Marco Rubio memes? Yeah. Says when Marco Rubio finds out he has to be Dolly Parton, that's pretty great. R. IP, Dolly Pardon. Let's see here. Trash six. Hey, I got a message from Chaplin. and he's out there fighting a good fight,
Starting point is 00:27:48 dealing with all the spiritual stuff. He says, Chapman chuggan has come to my attention that there have been some questions about the doctrine of imputation amongst the trash battalion. I'm working with the Cajun Sartar Major, put together a lunch and learn to answer all questions in relation to this doctrine there.
Starting point is 00:28:06 I think, Chaplin, I know you're new to the Greenside, we'd call that an NCO council, but anyway, he made him who knew no sin to be sent in our behalf so we might find the wretched has gotten him saying two Corinthians two Corinthians 521
Starting point is 00:28:21 two Corinthians I don't know Trump's commander-in-chief two Corinthians NASB 1995 nothing else for the group over And I think All right I gotta go guys I'm busy I think he might boil and learn Yeah attention on deck
Starting point is 00:28:36 Oh no it's on Oh Whew Hey great brief Great brief great brief. I'm glad it was so expedited. So expedited. It's right on schedule.
Starting point is 00:28:51 Well, let's do a lifting question before you get in this football. You get a lifting question? I saw, there are some good ones. I think that Jordy posted. No, we're going to talk about my home gym. We're going to talk about
Starting point is 00:29:09 Grant's buddy's home gym. Hey guys, and welcome back to Grant's program. We're from Stranko. Today, We're talking about home gym, what you need to spend money on, what you can make a compromise on in a certain circumstance, and really how you can just get going. So I am currently in school at the Navy War College in Newport, Rhode Island. I'm running a house. I have a small basement. My wife is due very soon, and obviously I need to continue to lift. I have a high academic load, and then obviously I'm still running my business, the strength cone. Of course,
Starting point is 00:29:43 the okay podcast. If you're not watching on the okay podcast channel, go subscribe to the okay podcast. You may like it. We talk lifting and a lot of other things as well. But I became in this predicament where I realized that even with a short commute to base, time is of the essence. And therefore, I wanted a home gym. And I wanted a home gym for a couple of reasons. I wanted one so that I would not have to commute at all on days that I just need to study and don't have to go to class. I want be able to go down to the basement and get a lift in. But also for days that as my wife is very pregnant, I can take my toddler down to the basement with me and do two things at once, watch my daughter and also get a lift in. And so with low ceilings, the things that I brought with
Starting point is 00:30:31 me as I moved to Newport, Rhode Island, where a Stranko bar, well, the standard bar, that's my favorite bar. I think it's the most versatile bar. I do like the core bar for the little bit more aggressive nerling but the standard bar it my wife can use it as well not that she can't use the core bar but it just has enough grip and bite on the nerling but it's not too much i brought some deadlift mats we sell those on the store they're 125 bucks you get three of them shipped to your house you don't have to go find a tractor supply or wherever you buy your horse stall mats and it's a horse stall mat mat but it's cutting two by two squares and it's very efficient because you can put them down on the ground and have a deadlift platform instantly. And I also obviously bought some
Starting point is 00:31:13 Stranco plates. Now, that's easy for me because I manufacture Stranco plates so I can bring those things with me. And I brought collars and straps and other things that we make on the site as well. But as I got everything down there, I didn't know if I would set a home gym or not. But as life has progressed and I've been busy studying and my wife is, you know, for all I know, I'll stop making this video right now to go have our second child, praise. God, but I realized, hey, I need the ability to work out in my home. It's going to be a force multiplier. At the same time, I'm going against a couple constraints. I have a really low ceiling. Overhead pressing is out of the question. The shorty racks that multiple brands make are out of
Starting point is 00:31:56 the question. When I stand up a deadlift, my hair is touching the ceiling. I'm six foot one. but there are things that I knew that I could do. I could get a small squat stands that I could use to be able to squat. Now, will that be as robust as a power cage or something to squat and have safeties? Probably not. Now, the good thing is, is I've built my base. If you haven't gone back and watched that video, build your base, you should. Because if you have gotten strong, then you have earned the ability to do some sub-maximal lifts
Starting point is 00:32:32 to maintain your health, fitness, and strength without necessarily running a novice linear progression. And I think that's where I'm at right now. I think where I'm at right now is, hey, I'm going to lift moderately heavy. I'm going to, when I need to want to lift really heavy or heavier, I will go to the base gym. That option is still available to me, like if you were a gym member or something. But I want to be able to wake up in the morning, get a lift done, get my daughter up, get the morning routine done before I go to school and that sort of thing. So I was shopping for certain things and specific things for my environment.
Starting point is 00:33:11 So I ended up getting a rack and a bench off of Amazon. The bench came today. I think it was $74. It's an adjustable bench. I'm not an adjustable bench guy. I prefer to do all my left side of the power rack. But the reason I got an adjustable bench is so that I can do a seated, overhead press. So if you're a long-term person that needs to be in a basement or a low-ceiling
Starting point is 00:33:37 area, you should probably get an adjustable bench. My brother Jeremy, I'm sure we'll have some B-roll here of him lifting and his small garage has a low ceiling. And he's done seated press his entire time. And I think he has a seated press up to like, I don't know, 185 for three sets of five. He's 45 years old. He has four daughters. He's an attorney in Washington, D.C. And like, that probably answers the mail for how strong you need to be on pressing. So I got an adjustable bench. The problem, I wanted to go and buy a Made in USA adjustable bench. I really did. But the problem is, is we make things really well here. And what I also want is when I leave here in nine and a half months, I wanted to buy something that I could either give to someone or leave on the street
Starting point is 00:34:26 and not fly back to my home with a ton of guilt. So I did go with the Amazon option. And I think that's a place that you could save and go cheap. If you're in a temporary status, if you're in a house that you're going to raise your children in for the foreseeable future, this is where I'm going to live. I would tell you to buy nice.
Starting point is 00:34:46 I would tell you to buy the thing. Or if you know when you go back to your next destination, you're going to set up your home gym again, I would tell you to buy nice. For my circumstance, when I go back to South California, I live a half a mile from the Stranko gym. So that's where I work out. So I'm not going to need the kind of home gym that I need now when I'm over there. So I made some compromises there.
Starting point is 00:35:12 Squat rack, I can't remember the name of it. We'll probably do a video showing you the whole home gym once it's completed. But I got two independent stands. The basement's really weird. There's a bunch of fieldstone foundation. and there's a water heater that sticks out and I need them to be very independent. It's not something that I'm going to be able to set up
Starting point is 00:35:30 and the gym is set up. It's going to be, hey, I'm deadlifting today. I'm going to move the squat ratch stands out of the way. I'm going to be squatting today. I have to put those in the primary position. And that's just the situation I'm in. Well, I don't think that you should skimp out on is your barbell and plates.
Starting point is 00:35:46 And you'd say, Grant, you're biased. You sell barbells and plates. Yes, I am biased. I do sell barbells and plates. But I also think that regardless of your current situation, if it's a space confinement deal, if you're a barbell lifter, your barbell and your plates are things that are going to go with you wherever. If you are not lifting with a barbell that's seven feet, two inches long and loading it with plates, you're doing a different thing.
Starting point is 00:36:14 You're not doing the strength adaptations that we teach on this channel and the thing that we are after. So I think if you are bought into, hey, I want to be a barbell trainee, then the money is spent on the bar, the thing that your hand and your back and your body allows you to use and the plates that you put on it. So I have, you know, Stranko iron plates, a bunch of 45, 25s, 10s, 5s, 2 and a half. And then I have some bumper plates to supplement so that I could power clean, haven't been doing much of that lately. I'll be honest, but also so that my wife can deadlift weights less than 135 pounds for warmup. So I think that is where the benefit is. And now, don't get me wrong.
Starting point is 00:36:59 If I had my dream house with my 19 car garage where 18 cars worth of it was gym equipment, I would have things completely different. But I think that at a very low budget, you can get, in the current spot you're at, you might be in an apartment in New York City. You might be renting a spot in your mom's house. You might have wherever you have a small area, you can actually get a bench and a squat rack. And will you be able to get as strong as you would be able to do with a four post rack
Starting point is 00:37:37 with safeties? No. But will you be able to try to do the beginnings of something like starting strength? Or if you've trained before, will you be able to maintain? to maintain a base of strength that you've gotten? Absolutely. So I do think there's a time to do that. And I wish, and I tried. We made squat racks for a while. We made over 1,500, what we call the captain squat racks. My brother still uses it every day in his house in Maryland. And I regret that I didn't put one aside for me. We made hundreds of benches and other things. But the problem is
Starting point is 00:38:14 with the way that oversees imports is, those items didn't make sense for us because we didn't know in all the manufacturing. And so like we do in the plates and the barbells and that sort of thing. So in any event, if you're looking in a small space, a confined space, a temporary space, I still think, especially if you're a busy person, a home gym is beats, beats it all out. Like it's the best way to go and there's options out there and things you can get. and we will show you what I got in my confined space, show you all the dimensions, and hopefully it's helpful to you.
Starting point is 00:38:47 If like the video, like to subscribe to the channel, we'll see you next time. We did it. Comments for Donnie in? I was thinking of a good gym name for you to put on gym radar. Oh, yeah. I think Silence of the Lambs would be a good one. Why is that?
Starting point is 00:39:09 Puts the lotion on the skin or he gets the hose again. Have you seen it before? I have seen it, but not since I was in college and I don't really remember. But are you basically saying that it looks like I'm going to kill someone in my basement? Yeah. So the guy, yeah, the aesthetic looks like Buffalo Bills residents. Just like, you know, the downstairs of it. Not a bad thing.
Starting point is 00:39:33 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's not a bad thing. It's not a bad thing. We'll talk more lifting with Donnie once he gets in here. One quick guy. Donnie, is that you?
Starting point is 00:39:46 There he is. A handsome man. Looks like, oh, he's getting it. He's putting earpods in. Oh, guys, here we go. Mike check one, one, two, one, two. We got them loud and clear. For the listeners, this is
Starting point is 00:40:00 Donnie Bowers, former Marine Osso, former Marine XO, former a lot of Marine things, but once Marine, always Marine. also Naval Academy graduate and former guest on the podcast. We've had him on before. A lot's changed in Donnie B's life.
Starting point is 00:40:22 And let's not forget that he was a player at the Naval Academy, Navy football. I'm having dinner tomorrow. I'm having dinner tomorrow with Jose Asante at my house. The Prince. Yeah, the Prince. So we're going to talk some Navy football. But a lot has changed Donnie's life. And I just want to get him right to it before I let all the boys say,
Starting point is 00:40:42 Hello. Last time you were on, you were like, man, we want to have a kid. And now you got a kid and you got another kid on the way. And we've only had a hundred, we've only had 124 episodes. So just tell us. Long time listener, two time call. Yeah. How things change. Gosh, I was reflected on that today, thinking about the last time that I was on the podcast. And I was, sitting here thinking, we just did IVF and we were, my wife was laying on the couch. I was talking to me.
Starting point is 00:41:17 I was like, she may or may not be pregnant right now. We don't know. That, it was true. She was pregnant at that time. That's what we called the OK podcast. It's true.
Starting point is 00:41:28 Hey, we spoke it into existence. That's it. This is what the podcast does. IVF, yeah. You got, you got a partner in conjunction with Costco, man.
Starting point is 00:41:39 get in line. Yeah, they're in line. They're in line. Yeah, so Josie was born, you know, July 13th, 20205 soon after and, you know, changed our lives. You know, we were talking about how like, you know, it was so rewarding being parents, you know, even the exhausting nights and a kid that's screaming in your face and you just, you don't know why you can't ask them what's going on and they can verbalize it.
Starting point is 00:42:14 But, you know, we wanted that so bad that we went and did IVF. So we're just so thankful for that to have, you know, occurred in our lives. And, you know, we're just like, man, do we want another kid? Do we want another kid? You know, how soon can we get another kid? You know, took my wife out for her birthday and we had some soft served margaritas. And those decided if we were having a kid or not. So
Starting point is 00:42:38 So, yeah. What's the due date? December 20th. Okay. For my birthday. So yeah. And we found out where it's going to be a little boy. So we're going to have a little boy.
Starting point is 00:42:53 It's awesome. Thank you. That's amazing. Donnie B. The B stands for getting busy, boy. Never happens the way you plan it. You know, preach. Tell, tell, tell,
Starting point is 00:43:07 tell God your plans if you want to hear him laugh, right? So that's it. Here we are. That's it. Well, sweet. So we're mainly here to talk football, but we always want life updates. Week zero. Yeah, week zero.
Starting point is 00:43:20 Yeah, week zero. Week zero. Well, real quick. So July of 25, so your daughter is like 15 months. Yeah, right around the corner. She's like, okay. You know how we, you know, you know how, like, oh, she's 50, seven weeks and three days.
Starting point is 00:43:40 So I used to make fun of that until you have a child and then you realize I don't know when that stops and I guess Stray doesn't know either. But at some point it's like, ah, no, like 12 months is a lot different than I will tell you this. So I miss. 16 months old. Yeah. I missed in my daughter's life four months to 13 months.
Starting point is 00:44:07 for deployment. And I will tell you that 13 months to 22 months. So when I came back to where she is now, it is bananas of the difference. Like, I mean, Trey, you've got to feel the same way. Dude, it's like the growth between, I think the growth between 12 months and 18 months is like the amount they pick up, you know, like 12 months is like still a baby. And then like by 18 months or like walking and like saying saying stuff like it's crazy yeah i'm starting to wonder why my my daughter's you know she's walking around but she's got her hands on her hips already yeah do i walk like that well we don't talk about how you walk don't well congratulations on two kids um thank you that's great and hoping for and praying for a good smooth delivery we're we're
Starting point is 00:45:03 Dude, I could leave this podcast right now. I was about to say, yeah, we, you know, the fact that we're on the podcast and it tells me that, you know, things haven't started yet. Yeah. It's actually, this is the, this is the live stream of. Yeah, we're actually, so you see that elephant back there and the couch. Yeah, that's where it's going to happen. We're going to show how to do a at-home birth. That's what my wife is after and at-home birth.
Starting point is 00:45:26 Where's the GoPro? Yeah. Dieter make your football pitch. Yeah. I'll turn it over to Jeff and Trey. I really just wanted to talk about your kids, but they probably won't talk about football. Trey's probably got stats of the Navy offensive line and, you know, height weight.
Starting point is 00:45:43 Well, it's funny. I was texting Donnie. I was texting Donnie earlier today. So if for those who aren't on the Slack channel, we posted the college football pickum. Do we see that to you, Donnie? I sent it to you, right? Yep.
Starting point is 00:45:58 Okay. Yeah. And then Donnie texted me back. Hey, should I just send you my home? address now. So first place of the call. Okay. It's calling the shots. Yeah. It's getting a helmet. Yeah, no.
Starting point is 00:46:11 It's all right. I mean, wishful thinking. I like it. So first place, what do we say? Gets a miniature helmet with no visor specifically. Second place. Nope, no visor, sorry. Second place is getting a strength coat t-shirt. Third place is up for debate. We'll figure it out.
Starting point is 00:46:31 Actually, I like that a lot. If I can sign it. I'll sign it. Yeah, we'll sign it. Yeah, we'll sign it. If we update, if we update the, the prizes, if you're listening to show, you're not Slack channel member, you can still join. DM the OK podcast Instagram.
Starting point is 00:46:50 I want to join the college pick. We'll send you the link. The password is strong capital S-26. I love Tray's initiative on getting this going and just telling people what I'm going to give people. but if we get a good group of folks, we will actually expand the gifts, and the gifts will be better, right? Not that you want more than a mini helmet
Starting point is 00:47:11 with a visor from Mr. Helmut, but we will make it better. So I haven't looked and to see, last I checked, there was like six people in there. Let's grow this thing, let's get some better prizes. Let's do it, let's do it. Let's do it. Is he one, two, three, four, five, six.
Starting point is 00:47:26 Well, so, Donnie, how many have we got in there? Ten, okay. Yeah, I know Gordon got in there. there today. Gordon texting with it. Yeah. Yeah, he's he's he said he I sent it to him. I actually took a screenshot of about five people I invited that are not Stranko people. They're just friends. And all of them sent me back some variation of like, oh, it's football season. I'm hearing from Grant. And, uh, and I thought, no, I didn't, I didn't take it as an insult. I actually took it as like, what a cool thing that sports bring. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:01 to like relationships and it's so true they're like my buddy gordon that i grew up with in south carolina i talked to him from august when we think we're going to win the cc until we're hoping we make a bowl game in december and like that's when i talked to gordon and then i don't talk to him you know and that's okay if if gordon wins i'm sending him an a and m helmet like just well you have the power you said you were funding the helmet purchase yeah i'll So the prize is the helmet of Trace choosing. So that's... Yeah, that's basically what it is.
Starting point is 00:48:38 You get to just choose from an A&M helmet. So, Donnie, do you have in front of you, and I can pull it up if you don't, Navy's football schedule? I can pull it up right quick. Yeah, because we last week did our teams, and I feel like we should kick this off. Yeah, definitely. First of all, yeah, I am curious, is Navy going to be between all the academies? I know because they won last year between, what is it?
Starting point is 00:49:04 The Commander's Chief trophy. The Commander's Chief, yeah. They won it last year. Do you think they can repeat it? I think they can. Yes. Yeah, the short answer is yes. It's going to be an interesting year, though, because, I mean,
Starting point is 00:49:17 you've lost a three-year starting backfield with your quarterback, your fullback, and one of your tailbacks in the new offense. So, I mean, what's that replacement going to look like? Hmm. But no, I'll be curious, man. They were salty last year, so they were fun to watch. Yeah, no, I'd be, yeah, let's go through the schedule. I'd be curious to see what you think the wins and losses are for them.
Starting point is 00:49:42 Okay, yeah, let's, I mean, let's go ahead and start it off. I got Talas and pulled up. I mean, I'd think that's going to be a win. W. Yeah. Mark that was win. Florida Atlantic. That's a weird game.
Starting point is 00:49:55 Sneaky. Yeah. Is that Charles Strong still? Who's coach? them or is that Tom Herman oh goodness come out no don't ask the deep questions this guy's got a one-year-old at home he didn't have time to know it's right that they're usually stinky good though I think you win that Zach Kittley is the coach okay went four and eight last year who was it who was it Jeff Zach Kittley Kittley K-I-T-T-L-E-Y
Starting point is 00:50:24 no I don't know that is I still go W there that's what I would say UAB? UAB had a tough year last year. They ended up firing Dilfer. I don't know. Jeff's in Alabama. That makes things weird. Give me, give me the cat.
Starting point is 00:50:43 Give me that it as midshipman. Give me a midship. Hey, I'm at the Navy War College. I'm just going to click Navy every single time. I'm team Navy. Then we go, then we go back out of conference. We're at Air Force. Traveling to
Starting point is 00:50:59 to the Rockies. I've known. Playing in the atmosphere. Are they supposed to be good this year? Did you play at Air Force, Donnie? My senior year. Yeah. Is it in, like, is the atmosphere intense?
Starting point is 00:51:14 Like, I guess what I'm saying is you made that comment, which we could just laugh at, but like, I think, yeah. Well, it's, it's definitely mind games too. Okay. I think because they, they really lean into it there. Like, as you're taking the field, there's, there's warning signs. altitude,
Starting point is 00:51:31 this, low oxygen levels. Like, they try to play on the psyche of it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Did you feel a difference?
Starting point is 00:51:40 Did you play in that game? No. I did not feel a difference. Okay. Oh, you didn't feel a difference. Okay. So,
Starting point is 00:51:48 I think that, yeah, just playing the mind games to it. So we're four and oh. We're four and oh, right now, right? Oh, yeah. That would be, wait,
Starting point is 00:51:56 wait, one, two, three, yeah, that's four and oh. Okay. at excuse me Tulsa
Starting point is 00:52:02 could be sneaky I think we should have Shrey I'm actually going to be going to this game so I'll be there in person so I mean is it at no no no it's at Navy we're going to run out up there for a little
Starting point is 00:52:17 like a little baby moon kind of thing what's that date that is October 10th did you already buy tickets got plane tickets did you already I mean that's a that's a that's
Starting point is 00:52:29 I couldn't make it down there. Come on. Yeah. Your first TV game. Yeah, dude. I went back, side note, but for people like my mother
Starting point is 00:52:41 that don't like the football talk, there was a moment where we flew to Rhode Island. My wife's super pregnant. Sad leaving her family. We don't have a car yet here. We have this rental car. And I had my truck that I left abandoned when I deployed in North Carolina.
Starting point is 00:52:59 I know. Yeah, beautiful truck. Thank you. Thank you. Yeah, 97 Chevy. And so I was like, I'm going to fly from Rhode Island from Providence to Raleigh and drive it up in one day. And man, the things I passed in my life that I have wanted to stop at. And I actually think that one of them, because I've seen, there was a lot of Civil War battlefields, but I've seen a lot of Civil War battlefields. But when I was like, there's the Naval Academy. And I had told my wife, I was like, Like I will just come straight back. Like I'll come back. And she's like, you're going to go through New Haven, Connecticut. And you're going to stop for pizza. I was like, no, I'm going to come straight back. I promise. But I really wanted to stop because I've never been to the Naval Academy.
Starting point is 00:53:42 And I've had to work with so many of you guys. And I'm like, man, I want to see it. So, yeah, I'd love to go to a game. That's a bucket list. I think if you're a call football thing. All I'm saying is I've at least done a drive-by of the Citadel. Yeah, you've at least done around. I've seen the knobs.
Starting point is 00:53:57 Appreciate that. Yeah. Yeah, no, I got to go. I've only seen the graduates, which are way worse than whatever your first year guys are. Although I'm seeing a lot of Naps guys now. We can talk about Naps when we finish this schedule. Because I'm super curious about the Naps guys.
Starting point is 00:54:13 I'm like walking down Thames Street and there's like 17-year-old kids in tan uniforms. And everyone's going, thank you for your service. And I'm like, what? They probably eat it out to, yeah. No, no, I got some nap stories. Yeah. We'll get back.
Starting point is 00:54:28 that. All right. Go ahead. So Tulsa. Yeah. So October 10. Tulsa. W. You're there. That's the Donnie effect. We need it. We need Josie to be a good luck totem. Good morning for the guill. Yeah. Donnie. UTSA
Starting point is 00:54:45 in San Antonio. I think that's the first loss right there, man. I think they're going to be salty this. Time is TBD. I mean, I guess the networks are thinking this is going to be a prime time game. It might even be game day. They say. They might be.
Starting point is 00:54:58 really? Oh, yeah. They're really, yeah. What was the opponent? UTSA. Jeff Trailer. University of Texas, San Antonio. San Antonio.
Starting point is 00:55:08 Yeah. Okay. Remember the Alamo. Yeah. Never forgot. Never forget it. I'm going to go a loss there. What do you think?
Starting point is 00:55:19 You know what? I mean, any, any game can be a loss. Don't give up the ship. Don't give up the ship. You know what? I believe in the boys. I believe in the boys.
Starting point is 00:55:31 They're going to come out with a W. Okay. Next game is another Texas team, but we're not, we're, they're coming back up to Maryland. So it's North Texas. Oh, North Texas. Yeah. That we got a lot from last year.
Starting point is 00:55:45 Lost or quarterback. I think y'all win that. Where do they go? He went to Oklahoma State. He went to okay, okay state, right? Yeah. They'll be. Ella Langellian.
Starting point is 00:55:56 I want to see how they do, you know, just. Oh, no. Turnpike Chubedores had them. The quarterback came out at their concert and was throwing passes around. It's what's what my customer said. That's pretty tough. Yeah, I'm estimating. No, it's a little caveat.
Starting point is 00:56:10 I want to see how Oklahoma State does this year. I'm kind of excited to see how, you know, the program, pretty much the North Texas program implants and stuff into the Big 12th. You mean like can leadership moving to a different organization actually affect change? But you also have the ability to bring some, some of your key players. You change agents. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:32 Yeah. Yeah. And they all read Klosswitz. Yeah. Yeah. They all read Klauswitz. So they're ready to play. They're ready.
Starting point is 00:56:39 I know exactly what you're saying, but I think, you know, there is another aspect to it. He's just not just leadership with personnel that you're given. He's able to make quick changes and get people that he wants him. So trust me. I'm following Davos, Sweeney. I know how William Tecumptu's Sherman works. Sorry Surced
Starting point is 00:57:05 Farnegal Hey wow Too soon No grudges held Zero Then we got Notre Dame I think I think that might be
Starting point is 00:57:17 An actual loss I'm gonna But they're a playoff team They're They're I'm not mad about it You got Play them well
Starting point is 00:57:28 to prove to the committee that they deserve, right? Yeah, yeah. Followed up by Temple. I'm going to go ahead and put that as a win. Temple is just, they've never recovered from the Golden Eras. Once the Crosby allegations came out, they just weren't the same. Just gave up. They never recovered.
Starting point is 00:57:56 Next one is Memphis. I'm going to put that as a W. A completely new staff there. I don't think they understand the culture of what Memphis is. So Memphis could be a powerhouse in the American. I just don't think that they've ever had the leadership to do it. Next game is Charlotte. I'm going to put that as a W.
Starting point is 00:58:19 Wait. Did she have one loss of a day. Bit Pogi used to coach there, the Michigan stand-in. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Kip of he was given the reins to Michigan after being fired from Charlotte.
Starting point is 00:58:37 Hey, dreams do come. They can come true. Can't plan. And then the last game, last game against Army. That's old W. I don't know what I can do this year. Okay, so is it back in Philly? Is it MetLife?
Starting point is 00:58:54 I'm gone. It's in Philly. Yeah, I'm gone. December. 12th. I have tickets. It's a bucket list for me. And I was like, yeah, I'm like, yeah, if you want to come, you still can't. I was like, Navy War College a year.
Starting point is 00:59:06 I'm going. That's awesome. My buddy, Caleb Smith, a long time listening to the podcast, Tranko supporter. Yeah. So, yeah, December 12th, MetLife. I'm right. You should come, Trey. You should go, get out.
Starting point is 00:59:21 I want to go. If you have the ability to. Yeah. I was like, this is the year to go. Like, it's, it's not. Not far for me. I'm doing the Navy thing. I'm on the Navy team.
Starting point is 00:59:31 I'm always in the Navy team. But yeah. No, and I've always wanted to go. I mean, I remember, I think it was like, 08. And I say that because I think McCain was running for president. And I remember being in my basement grandpa's gym. Or my gym, everything's a basement gym. Say a basement.
Starting point is 00:59:53 You say, Jim. My grandpa's basement. And we were watching the game. and like McCain was there. And I remember seeing everyone in their uniform and I was like, I want to go to that. And yeah, so I'm going to go December 12th.
Starting point is 01:00:07 That would be a good location too. Yeah. Yeah, it would be fun. Man, Donnie, I think, I think 9 and 3. I think you all, I think Memphis. Memphis was. Okay, who'd you give the losses to you? Well, before actually, Tray goes in that,
Starting point is 01:00:22 Donnie, I think this is interesting. So we did our picks last week. if you didn't listen to the podcast, that's okay. And I talked to my buddy Gordon today. And he was like, what do you think we're going this year? And I said, well, you know, that's funny. We made her picks last week. And I have us going nine and three.
Starting point is 01:00:41 And I was like, but I, as we went through the games, that's where I ended up. And I said, but I don't think that's true. And he goes, yeah, we're an 8 and 14. I said, I think we're 7 and 5. And so you just went through the picks and you see the game. but do you really think it's a loss in Notre Dame and did you have one other loss?
Starting point is 01:01:05 I was saying that no. You're just going to be like tough but that's the thing though. No, I love it if you still feel it. I didn't feel it afterwards. You're still feeling it.
Starting point is 01:01:14 I like that. It's the hope of a new season. It's this one magical time where every, every fan is hopeful that their team is going to make the playoff. Like I'm sure,
Starting point is 01:01:26 I'm sure Trey's like, hey, like, Aggies aren't losing this year. They'll lose this at all. They'll lose this signal, but yeah. Right. This is our year. This is our year. And that's what
Starting point is 01:01:37 every fan is saying right now. This is our year. And that's the magical time of you know. But you're a coach. You're a player. You're a dad. So you have to now view things with a lot of realism. That's what I picked A&M 9 and 3. That's what I picked.
Starting point is 01:01:57 So I could go. I could see. three losses, but right now, the boys are hanging in there in the fourth quarter. Don't give up the ship. There's a lot of question marks, kind of like you said, man, they lost a lot. So I think
Starting point is 01:02:14 Jeff Trailer always has a solid team. I think Memphis always has athletes. And then Notre Dame, but I think he'll beat, I think he'll beat Army when the commander's chief. You know what's crazy is what you start thinking about when you look at a schedule is how much NIL money does this does that have? I know.
Starting point is 01:02:37 Oh, dude. Every time I look at them. Yeah. Every time I look at the WMBA, I think that. And now you're going to be like, how many former NFL players do they have on their college roster? How many?
Starting point is 01:02:47 Not anymore, man. SEC shut that down. Kind of like Big Ten. Well, no, no, no. So this is what I heard. Did they? I haven't looked into it. So the Big Ten actually made a ruling on it.
Starting point is 01:02:57 But the SEC did that? they not just like say like no so they initially came shouldn't so initially yes and then uh like maybe half an hour ago they came out with an official ruling we've been on the podcast for an hour and three minutes so like since then when you were talking and i was looking at my phone while you were talking that's what i was doing that yeah yeah breaking that's part of the podcast yeah that's why you know just got to keep stay up on stuff right yeah i think dude 93 solid year man with lost in the Notre Dame? I feel like...
Starting point is 01:03:30 Well, here's also the thing... Or you beat Notre Dame. Do that be nuts? Just make sure you make it to the conference championship. For sure. That's, you know, you can take a couple
Starting point is 01:03:41 hits here and there, but as long as you make it to the conference championship and you win, playoffs are a chance. First, different note, man, I just,
Starting point is 01:03:51 big fan of Roeback, so I like that shirt you got. But what is this, for you get, any further coach football talk. What's this NAPS? What is that? Naval Academy Preparatory School.
Starting point is 01:04:03 I actually need an education on this. So is it? So what I will tell you. It's in Newport. Yeah. Let me tell you my uneducated view of it. Okay. It is a place where Marine Corps majors get to go spend like two to three years commanding.
Starting point is 01:04:23 And it's a preparatory school. for, and Donnie can tell me I'm wrong, but this is my current belief of high school students that are getting ready to go to the Naval Academy. And it appears to me that they have regulations, they have to wear uniforms,
Starting point is 01:04:41 if they go out into town and that sort of thing. And I also have been recruited like 5,000 times. Like, sponsor a NAPS kid. You're a major at the war college. Like sponsor a kid to come hang out at your house. And my initial thought was like, hey, if you get like a 17-year-old girl that wants to babysit,
Starting point is 01:05:05 I'm in. Besides that, my house is kind of crazy. But it's, but it's military in nature. I see them marching around. Yeah. Yeah. And they all walking downtown all the time in uniform. And everyone's telling them, thank you.
Starting point is 01:05:27 for your service. And I'm like, I'm like wearing a t-shirt, pushing my kid in the big red car, sweating my A-off and just like, man, these people have no idea what I've done. And they're like telling this like 16 and a half-year-old kid, which is what they look like to me. For another 18, Donnie's about to explain. And I'm like, yeah, thanks for your service. At the same time, if you're a young person and you want to go to the military, you should never let, hey, I don't have experience, not be the reason to do it. And actually, thank you for your service for one to serve your country. But anyway, but yeah, Donnie, I don't want to actually understand it.
Starting point is 01:06:04 I know Michael Magyar, who I think, yeah, I know he was the major at NAPS. So he had a sweet. Yeah, yeah. So what is NAPS? Yeah, it's just a preparatory school for, well, actually, it's for both the Coast Guard Academy and the Naval Academy. You know, it's a mixture of high school students who the Naval Academy saw potential in for being future midshipman, but said, hey, you just may not be academically there yet. So it's, you know, to go and prepare for the courses that you're going to take.
Starting point is 01:06:43 Let me put in a plane speak for myself. Like, if you apply to the University of South Carolina and they say, hey, you're not in, they say you can go to the. this bridge school, which means your first year of college is over here. And if you perform in an adequate level, you can come over. Is it that? Or is it like people that haven't even graduated high school yet? No, it's exactly the first. Okay.
Starting point is 01:07:12 Okay. Yeah. They're all high school graduates. You know, some of them, like I said, are coming from the fleet. So they're prior enlisted Marines and sailors. and then mixed in with those high school students. That's okay. So I had a kid in high school who was phenomenal at wrestling,
Starting point is 01:07:30 and I think he went to NAPS as a wrestler. They have a football team. To get into the Naval Academy. So that's what that is. A lot of athletes will do that. It's, you know, for the academic reasons, but maybe not always. Maybe sometimes it's a way to,
Starting point is 01:07:52 unofficially redshirt a kid. So you can send them to NAPS for a year. Kind of, you know, have former, former players that are coaches there at NAPS that know the system of Navy and are able to, you know, start building that,
Starting point is 01:08:10 that lingo and how the plays are ran. So it's your minor league team. Yeah. I've been told I need to go to a NAPS game. I've gone to a Newport Goals game, which I get is the college baseball league. Is it D3 or is it like something even different than that? It's something even different than that.
Starting point is 01:08:32 It's like you can play other, and there's other preparatory schools all kind of peppered along the East Coast, you know, kind of concentrated up there into the northeast. But I remember, you know, they would play other like military prep schools, like Milford Academy was one. You know, they were stacked with, you know, some guys who were going to like Big Ten schools or SEC schools or, you know, other schools, but it was a way for them to kind of prepare academically for those institutions. So they'll play that, those teams. And then there's also the maps, the Military Academy Preparatory School that's up there.
Starting point is 01:09:20 play them as well. So it's kind of like Army Navy little minor league. Yeah, okay. Have you been to a game? I've never been to a NAPS game up at NAPS. I have been, you know, they would come down and scrimmage the, the JV team for Navy every year. Oh, okay. Come down. Okay. Yeah, but I had, you know, obviously a ton of my teammates had content. NAPS, about half of every incoming classes, you know, NAPS players as well. Okay, okay, got it. Interesting. Interesting.
Starting point is 01:10:01 Well, thank you for your service. Right. So, Noel and Hickey, for the listeners, Nolan Hickie, previous guests, you can go back and I don't know what episode number it is, but he was NAPS guy. So he was like, hey, you're going to the war college, go to Thames Street. And he like named a bunch of bars and stuff, right? And he's a good Irish kid. So he made sure he had a good time.
Starting point is 01:10:25 And I told him, I'm like, I'm actually living off of Thames. And he was like, get out of here. And he like told me all the spots that he used to go. And we had a good laugh. And so I just send them photos. Every time I'm like, well, I'm literally pushing my kid in the plastic red car, you know, Bowens, War for whatever. And I see like 20, 18 year olds in tan uniforms.
Starting point is 01:10:48 I just sent him a photo and say, thank you for your service, Nolan. And that's kind of a running gym. He was the nabs because he wasn't tall enough. They had to... Yeah. I hoping hit that gross spurt. Wait, you guys are the same size, right?
Starting point is 01:11:03 What's that? You're no one in the same height, right? Are you the same height as Nolan? I hate to say it, but you're six-seven, right? Yeah, I know. That's terrible. If you're not watching YouTube, you're really, yeah. But you are.
Starting point is 01:11:18 right? Dude, six, six and a half. Okay, okay. It's like official, official,
Starting point is 01:11:27 so I just told him one six six. Yeah, no, right? That guy's got a half inch on. Yeah, okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:11:35 You guys are both in a different domain. Last time I saw Nolan, we were trying to go back to back, and I don't know if it was the poof in the hair or what, but, you know, we were pretty close. But he might,
Starting point is 01:11:44 he might have me to be on the way. very soon yeah yeah I think a week after me and I'm like any day now Jeff were you the shortest guy in tango battery no I think Dino was
Starting point is 01:11:59 yeah Dino the Motorola but I mean he was like 510 you know yeah oh man that normal size if all he could be 511
Starting point is 01:12:12 that's so true all right Jeff Before we're taking this? Oh, go ahead. Even that. He was the shortest officer, but I think Walsh was the shortest staff. Yeah. And they were together, right?
Starting point is 01:12:30 No, you had Walsh. You had Walsh. Yeah, yeah, you had Walsh. You carried him around in your pocket. He had Sanders. Yeah. Sanders. What a legend.
Starting point is 01:12:39 Walsh, hop in this pocket. Let's get out of here. Man, I love that guy. I love both of those guys. You have a good crew, man. Yeah, fun time. The best. And I would come over and...
Starting point is 01:12:50 I'm sorry, I didn't mean to get out here. The conversation. It kind of goes back to all roads lead through Toledo. Jeff's hat's really just a tango hat. Speaking of tango, there's another... There's a pilot here in her... She's married to an artillery officer who was former... I guess now it's Toro battery.
Starting point is 01:13:12 Oh, wow. But it's in 111 now. But, like, it's, you know... Oh, that's gorgeous. It's pretty slick, man. It's pretty good. Of course you're like, it's a longhorn, tray. That's a short horn. That's a short horn.
Starting point is 01:13:25 Major. Isn't that a weird feeling, though? Like, 511 is no more. Like, when I tell my son about, you know, I served in the Marine Corps, I was with 511, it's a regiment that no longer exists. It could come back. It could come back, you know. Yeah, I remember. I remember for all that those colors here one day again.
Starting point is 01:13:51 We'll see. Yeah. So my SPC and an avid listener, Dan O'Connell, he was Tango 510. And I remember why we were students, he posted outside of his door a news article about 510 getting rolled up. Or excuse me, Tango 510 getting rolled up. And I didn't really think about it. then I thought about it later. And then when Tango, when 5-11 got rolled up, I was like, oh, like, wow.
Starting point is 01:14:24 So what it feels. Yeah. And like, well, it's funny when you like Wikipedia page, like, particularly Marine Corps, you know, fourth Marine division, name of Italian, doesn't matter, grunt, whatever. And they're like, and then they were rolled up for this period of time. And then this war broke out and they were back. So, yeah, it's kind of interesting. Anyway, Trey, Jeff, what do you guys got for this guy?
Starting point is 01:14:53 One, Jeff, I feel like we should do, and I've explained to Graham, we can explain it again, but I would be curious to do the bubble. So confusing to me. Bush. Just check it to next week. Let's keep kicking it. Okay, so we all got 12 games. We'll do an off-the-dome Donnie game. I'm going to say a school
Starting point is 01:15:16 and you're going to say the record this year and you have 15 seconds. Text A&M, go. 10, 10, 10 wins. 10 and 2. 10 and 2. Static for 10. Auburn.
Starting point is 01:15:37 7.5. Okay. We'll take a winning season. We'll take a winning season. South Carolina, 9 and 3. Emerson. No.
Starting point is 01:15:51 Undefeated. You're good. You're good. You're good. Navy wouldn't play on the herd. Navy was scared. I don't know. Who do you have, like, what's your final four for the playoffs?
Starting point is 01:16:06 Like, who do you think is going to make it there? Oh, geez. Man, that's Oregon. Oregon. Okay. Okay. I got Oregon. The.
Starting point is 01:16:17 Oregon. Ohio State. Do you have Ohio State Grant? I think I do. I don't want it, but I think I have it. I want to pick someone out of the ACC. Oh,
Starting point is 01:16:32 Miami. Come on. Miami. Maybe Florida State. Because they always know. There's this team. They're just like, he's not wrong.
Starting point is 01:16:41 Mike Norval just gets, feels the pressure. It says, we're going to, we're going to the semifinals, boys. Mike Norbell's getting fired after the Miami game. I'm calling that. Well, what about Miami getting back there? Coming out of the ACC? They got a new coach, right?
Starting point is 01:16:59 Yeah, the instead coach went over there, Franklin over there. I think they're going to be good. Oh, did you remember seeing their spring game? Did you all see the highlight from the spring game with the guy that parachuted in?
Starting point is 01:17:09 Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You got hung up. Actually, bad omen. Yeah, yeah. They were bad. Yeah, I have, I have Oregon, I have Ohio State. I'd pick Miami.
Starting point is 01:17:24 I think Miami could be in that final. Yeah, I think that Duke guy from last year, my quarterback. Do you think someone out of the SEC? What about like, what about like a surprise? I would say Georgia. Oklahoma? They're kind of sneaky. They could, they could.
Starting point is 01:17:41 Sneaky. Big word of the podcast today, sneaky. Not Auburn. If John Mateo. Auburn. Auburn. Auburn. Auburn, what do you mean?
Starting point is 01:17:52 I would say out of the SEC, I'd go Georgia, I'd go Miami, and I'd pick two Big Ten. I'm going to go Oregon, Ohio State. That would be my final four. Oregon. People are counting out in Indiana. I don't know. We'll see.
Starting point is 01:18:04 We'll see. How do we do that? How do we do that? I don't know. I think people just are like, they can't actually be real, like, real contenders. Can they? I don't know.
Starting point is 01:18:15 Well, I think that they go back to what Donnie was talking about. Like the North Texas coach taking all of his players up there. I think the same thing happening in Indiana, all of his players from, where was he, JMU? Jam you. Yeah. I think followed him there. And so it's like they already knew what was going on. So I think they're going to be good, but I think he's going to build it a year or two and then he'll be back.
Starting point is 01:18:35 I got him in there. You got him making the final four? I kind of want to see it again. I kind of want to see him, you know, just as family. Dude, he's so everything he says is. so I agree with it. Yeah. Like it's like I.
Starting point is 01:18:52 Yeah. Yeah. Google me. Yeah. Yeah. Who else I like is Dan Lannning that organ coach like just his like takes on all like the craziness. And he's like kind of comes out with some pretty like grounded. And like says a real answer doesn't give like though, you know, well, we're just trying to go out there one day at a time, one practice at time, one play at a time.
Starting point is 01:19:12 Right. Right. I'm trying to execute. trying to block and tackle. like he like says like actual things and you're like okay he has opinion i like that and he shares it yeah yeah yeah yeah isn't that the just a rah rah rah yeah yeah no but yeah that's uh it's interesting we've seen who everybody's funnel four was well uh oh go ahead that's that i mean that speaks to to you know everyone's short memory of of indiana like i know they've never been in a part of
Starting point is 01:19:39 the conversation and people just forget about it and that goes back to talking about like NIL. It's changed the way that historical programs are not strong anymore. It's who has the money. PME we would call the future of warfare. How do we adapt? How do we adapt?
Starting point is 01:20:02 The character of college football has changed. Everything is changing. No, but it really is because it's like I cannot stand Davos-Sweeney although I do think he's probably a decent human being but my instructor for a course I'm in right now which is leadership development
Starting point is 01:20:23 and the professional of arms is a Clemson grad and he puts on like the initial post there's like an initial post you have to do and it's like one of the things says I love everything about my alma mater and I'm like yeah you can't hear another thing that guy says
Starting point is 01:20:41 right yeah no it's terrible I have a visceral. Yeah, I'm done. But I did have to go up and I was like, hey, I'm having a baby. So you have to like sign this form that says if I call and say I'm having a baby, I can miss class. And which is such an antiquated system. We can talk about that after this point. The fact that like I'm walking around a yellow sheet to do it.
Starting point is 01:21:08 But in an event, and I had said something. in my initial post like, I'm a Citadel graduate, but two of my brothers went the university of South Carolina. So I'm sure I'll have a lot of beef with the Tiger and Chief. And so when I walked up and brought up and brought up and bringing the form, he's like, oh, you're the game cock? And I was like, well, yeah. I was like, how do you feel about this year? And he went into an NIL speech. And I said, actually, in your defense, I think that Dabo knows how to win, which I hate. But I, I, Like I do.
Starting point is 01:21:43 And so it'll be interesting. And I, this is almost like Jeff and I talking about the Peloponnesian War. It's like, I think we'll look back and be like, who was able to adapt to the changing atmosphere of college football, the fastest? And I think it's, I don't know. I could be totally wrong. And this sounds super elementary. But it's like people with like win mentality.
Starting point is 01:22:06 Like, yep, I love this dude. I built a lot of time into them. I don't need you because this guy. this six, six and a half guy from Navy wants to come over and I'm running the veer and I need him and he knows how to run it. But I think there's going to be some type of historical look back on the adaptability of coaches. Because it really is a weird error. Like it really is. It's like talking about drones in Ukraine, you know, calling for fire.
Starting point is 01:22:36 And it's like, oh, this is life changing. This is, yeah. Yeah. I don't know. Cal is in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Like, this is a very weird era. It's the weird as era. It's the weird as era.
Starting point is 01:22:50 And I don't think it matters. Think about their women's softball team that has to travel and play against Maryland. Yeah. Oh, God. They fly back and then go to Penn State. Yeah. Terrible. It's bad.
Starting point is 01:23:03 It's bad. You know what brought up Texas? But yeah. Like, do we think Texas is going to? They are like. Huckham. They've been. gone all in. Like they
Starting point is 01:23:13 went out and got some stuff. I'm so mad. I'm so mad. Let me ask you an NFL question. Do you think the Cowboys are going to be good? No. No. No. They're the Dallas Cowboys of college football. Okay. I think they always win the offseason. They will be good. But like, do I think they're going to be
Starting point is 01:23:33 undefeated? I don't know. I don't think so. I don't think Arsmanian. I don't think Sark. I don't either. I don't think Sark is the guy. I think they, but I don't think I don't think, I think Archie players, man. If his name was Smith, I don't think he would get as much hype as he does. Very true. Is he still the quarterback?
Starting point is 01:23:52 Yeah. Yeah. I thought he's done. Okay. Let the boy play. It's tough. It's tough being that first manning. He might not even be the best manning, you know.
Starting point is 01:24:04 That's true. It's true. It's just, he's. There's no way he's the best manning. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. But it's tough being the first manning because all that pressure falls. on the name. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:24:14 Sure. Yeah, but I bet it we'll have a, I'm not about a sick. Orby. What was this commercial last year? What's the glasses? Parker.
Starting point is 01:24:24 Warby Parker? Oh, I don't know. I remember you had like the Vori. Like, Viori. Yeah. He'll have some killer commercials.
Starting point is 01:24:32 Arch, Arch was doing that. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Wow. So anti-manning. We could do one of the things. two things. We could ask Donne
Starting point is 01:24:44 a couple of questions. We could take them into Wiggles Talk or we could boot them off the show. I saw, hey, I saw the Wiggles tickets. Okay, there we go. I mean, I didn't know that they were still together. So, they were like the Beatles. The Wiggles are forever.
Starting point is 01:25:00 Wiggles are forever. They're more like the Wootang Clan. Are you, does Jesse watch the Wiggles? No, she watches Barney. Okay, old school. Love it.
Starting point is 01:25:14 Well, Wiggles is in the big blue house. Okay. She loves cover bands on YouTube. Okay. So Wiggles, I didn't get that choice in the matter. Well, I was deployed, and it was kind of fitting because I was deployed to Australia. Diana did her research and decided that the Wiggles were like an okay thing to watch. And I came back and was like, oh, they've been around for 35 years.
Starting point is 01:25:39 These are like the greatest people ever. and they like do songs about Noah's Ark, I'm all in. It like checks my Southern Baptist history, my just, I've been around for a long time, so I must not suck. And so, yeah, we watched a lot of wiggles, and we were right at the point where, right as they got back from deployment, it was like, hey, you got accepted the Navy War College. And actually it was before I got back from deployment.
Starting point is 01:26:05 So I didn't even tell Diana about it at first. I was like, hey, there was like a potential I might go to school next year. we'll talk about it when we get back. But the day that we decided as like a family and we did decide as family, like, yeah, we're going to go to Newport for a year. I was like, the Wiggles was playing in Boston
Starting point is 01:26:23 on August 24th. And we were like, sign it up. So I bought the tickets. I bought the VIP tickets, which included like a photo with think Barney. So like the, they have three people. They have like a dog, an
Starting point is 01:26:38 octopus and a dinosaur. but you could put you could put Trey Grant and Jeff in that right like and while everyone else is getting ready on stage so you came 30 minutes early and you got a photo with them but I'll tell you dude
Starting point is 01:26:53 and I think this is it reminded me a little bit of vacation Bible school and I've never seen it as a child or I've only seen it as a child I've never seen as an adult but the fun part of the concert and it was one of the
Starting point is 01:27:10 most fun concerts I've been to is every parent and every child was having like the best time with each other and you could tell I have this video I'll send it to you guys it's the rockabai your bear song which is like Isabella's jam and so Isabella's like everybody clap everybody sing and she's doing yippie you know rock and you're going to sleep But I didn't even mean to do this, but in the background of the video. It's about the blonde dude. I don't know which video I said, you, Trey, maybe. But I mean, I didn't.
Starting point is 01:27:49 I actually only took six total photos and videos because I just realized like, oh, this is a moment where my child is so happy. I just want to be here. But I, but I did take a few. But as I've gone back and looked at them, when you watch it, you realize like, oh, that dad's not just singing this because he's with his kid here right now. He's singing it with the time because they do it all the time. And it was it was a and I'm a new dad and I know we got a lot of six year olds that listen to this and will make fun of me. But it was kind of it was it was, it was really fun because it was like, oh, this is like this is your daily life or a tool you use
Starting point is 01:28:38 in your daily life come to life and your kids could like not be more excited and the parents i mean i'll tell you what the parents probably had a better time and the kids all had a great time like the kids are the best time but it was it was yeah and it's also and i think donnie and tray you guys can speak to this like you take your kid to dinner and sometimes you get the right coloring book and the right crayons and like the first 30 minutes goes well and then there's like a try to 20 minute meltdown. But then, like, they get in the car at the end. And you're like, oh, like, overall, that was, like, pretty good.
Starting point is 01:29:17 Man, when you walk your kid into a Wiggles concert, it's like two hours of life. It's like, it was the equivalent of my daughter watching the VR being played out at Navy. It was just like, I want to see every play. I want to know what's happening on the sideline. Why is that Wiggles character over there collecting signs to the later take on the show? Yeah, it was, it was. That's awesome. I was a fan.
Starting point is 01:29:40 It was a lot of fun. I appreciate that sentiment of yours, though, talk about just trying to be in the moment. Like I try to do that as often as I can. So that was the coolest part of hearing that story. But, yeah, I might have to start listening to the Wiggles now. They're solid, man. Your kids will have an Australian accent by like,
Starting point is 01:30:08 like out of nowhere and you're like no why you're you yeah new what you're talking like that but as a lot of kid stuff does they like made it pretty fun so they played like shipping up to boston but like in a kid version and then they did this thing cherry pie yeah they didn't cheer pie but they did so it was in it was in like an old boston theater right by emerson have you been to cock theater jeff yeah you've been to there like first to see something uh who do we see there i know i've been there i've been there yeah okay so it's right by emerson that's why i thought about jeff but there's like an upper deck and so they were like we want to get the top involved we're going to throw some balls up top captain featherweather
Starting point is 01:30:56 will you go up top it's a long way to the top and then they play like it's a long way to the top and but then they say if you want to get a ball because they were throwing balls all over the state it was Dude, it was, all the humor was like ridiculous, but when you're there with your two-year-olds, you're like, this is exactly what I signed up for. Yeah, it was, it was fun. That's like Beatlemania. Yeah. That's like you've seen the Beatles back in the 60s.
Starting point is 01:31:23 It's basically what you just did. Yeah. That makes no sense to me, but I agree with you. I know. It doesn't. Yeah. I'm there with you, Trey. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:31:31 Yeah. I got to bring, I got to bring Jeff back in. We were finishing up a seminar at PME. and somehow Star Trek came up and it was like the instructors are really good at the like when the clock ticks the time the course is done so it clicked it and then the Navy commander
Starting point is 01:31:52 starts talking about Star Trek and so I'm a big guy of like hey until the instructor's done like don't put all your stuff in the bag and leave I think it's like super rude like you're in someone's class So I'm like being patient, four minutes, five minutes. They're like talking about galaxies or whatever the heck you talk about in Star Trek.
Starting point is 01:32:19 And, and I, yeah, no, that's Star Wars. Come on, Tray. Oh, dude, good job. Well done. Thank you. And so I don't even know what to do. So I just stand up and do this. And the commander knows that like I have a baby coming.
Starting point is 01:32:35 And he goes, oh, Grant's got to go. And I was like, I know nothing about Star Wars, but I'm, or Star Trek, but I'm pretty sure this is goodbye. And I just packed my stuff. Anyway. It's not goodbye, but yeah. It's not goodbye. It could be. Live long, live long and prosper.
Starting point is 01:32:54 I guess it's like, you know, if you say that, that's what they, that's like, hey, goodbye, live long and prosper. Yeah. I thought it was like a little hard road's lead through Toledo. Yeah. That's what it means. That's actually it means everything. He's like, yeah. He's like, I'm from Toledo.
Starting point is 01:33:07 Yeah. So, Donnie, let's be honest. I think you were on, like, episode 50, if you were to guess, in the last 70 episodes, have you listened to 5, 10, or 50 episodes? You won't hurt our feelings. Yeah. I'd say, I'd say it probably about seven. Okay, that's good.
Starting point is 01:33:25 I like this. I like this. I think about six more than me, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay, so you tune in once in a while. It gets hard. It gets hard.
Starting point is 01:33:36 It's a great time. but I try to drop in every now and then just to see what's up. The show's pretty kid friendly. So, I mean, you know, you could just start them young. Put it on in the truck. Start them young. Hardest thing as a dad of a one to two year old and a pregnant wife. It's, I think it's just the pressures that come with trying to, you know, be successful
Starting point is 01:34:09 with a job, trying to, you know, leave that at the door and then come in and be present, you know, at home and then trying to, you know, find, find some time to, you know, give yourself a mental break here and there. So it's just, you know, trying to, trying to be the best at what you're doing, but it gets, it gets hard. It gets, it's a, it's a marathon. I'll actually think you could have summed it up better. It's like, this sounds super trade's going to laugh at me super cringy
Starting point is 01:34:44 but as I've been in PME I've thought a lot of like oh it's like multi-domain and like you want to win in all of them like I want to be the best dad I want to be the best husband I don't run my business or run my reserve life
Starting point is 01:34:59 but there's like this much time and so it's like trying to decide we're like hey you know what I'm going to turn this off and yeah it's interesting Trey what would you say
Starting point is 01:35:12 yeah what as far as the hardest part I think Don you got three so yeah Donnie hit whatever you say it wins I think Donnie hit it pretty spot on
Starting point is 01:35:24 the other part too is just like balancing you know sometimes you just forget like you're also married like that's you know what I mean and so like that's like that's another lane
Starting point is 01:35:38 you're like if you don't pour into that, then, like, it can empty up pretty quick. So you got to make sure. Wow. Yeah. That's a, that's something that, like, I forgot for a while. And I'm like, oh, I need to focus back on this. So, but no, I think even just right on. Yeah, yeah, no, man, that's a, that's a good one, too.
Starting point is 01:35:52 Even if you just have, like, something that you can do at the end of the day that, that, that is shared. Like, right now, our guilty pleasure is, uh, uh, watching Big Brother. You know, it's a show that comes on three times a week. And, you know, for three times a week, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, We lay on the couch. And even if we're just, you know, catching up on like a social media, which I am growing more and more to despise. Oh, with every fiber one being.
Starting point is 01:36:22 Yeah, why am I scrolling right now? I don't want to pick my phone up, but I'm addicted. Yeah, don't get me started on that. But I think it's even just having that shared time where, you know, if you look up from your phone and you start, you know, talking about this trash reality TV show together, you have that to talk about. You know, it's just a little little things. You know, it doesn't be profound moments all the time.
Starting point is 01:36:45 But, you know, just sharing the small things. Yeah. No, man. Two's fun. I think y'all are going to have a good time with it. Man, yeah. It's going to be life-changing. I'll be an expert at the time your second one comes, so I'll let you know.
Starting point is 01:37:04 Yeah. Start writing the book. No, yeah, give me the TTPs. You're still playing, you're still playing man-on-man, so you're still good. You can, my favorite thing is like, yeah. Yeah, like you'll be sitting there and then, like, you know, kids will be crying. You're like, oh, we need to go get milk. And then it's just like, me and Abby are always like, oh, I'll do it.
Starting point is 01:37:25 I'll do it. It's just like, who's going to be first to go out? No, no, you are. No, hey, don't worry about it. I'll take care of it. I'll go right now. Just hire it. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:37:36 That's hilarious. It's hilarious because we just, so we've, Diana and I have had that, but not in a good way of like, hey, I'm an escape and it's been like, oh,
Starting point is 01:37:46 we're out of milk. And I, I, I Google this thing on the porch of the place that we live. And it's just like a milk delivery service. Like literally what my dad told me about, like, the milk man used to come.
Starting point is 01:37:57 And I was like, Diana, I'm signing up for this. And I don't even care what it costs. There's like two gallons of milk coming every Wednesday. And it actually wasn't that expensive. So the threshold for delivery was $15. And I think the gallons were like $4.99.
Starting point is 01:38:16 So I added a cottage cheese and a yogurt, which I know that my family's going to consume. And that's like common every Greek? We're doing. Yeah, Grie. It's for my daughter. I'm the cottage cheese consumer. My daughter's the, we did Greek whole, I don't know.
Starting point is 01:38:33 Better macros on the Greeks. Story Brooke, story brown. I don't know. I just was like, I need to not like see everyone go to bed and realize there's a crisis that we're out of milk for tomorrow morning and have to go somewhere. So like we're signing up for this. Smart.
Starting point is 01:38:53 Anyway, we do this every part of the show. We've always done. We've never not done it. Ever since Jeff Smith, the Air War College. Jeff, most interesting thing you learned this week. Oh, man. We talked to cyber domain today. Like mind-blowing stuff. Oh, no.
Starting point is 01:39:12 Okay, I'm going to go back to the, we talked to space domain. Oh, gosh, now I'm blinking on the name. You're moving way ahead. My course is stuck in ancient Greece right now. Oh, yeah, yeah. No, we hit that. It was terrible. LaGrange points in space.
Starting point is 01:39:28 Okay. Very interesting. It's points where they're like neutral in terms of, like, it's like where like orbits, I think. I'm going to explain this wrong. There's probably some scientific person to be like, you're an idiot. But it's like where like orbits like overlap.
Starting point is 01:39:42 And so it's like kind of like stationary points where like you could put like satellites. So like it won't like orbit. It can like kind of hold stationary in space. And so like they're like strategic points in space that like, what's it called? LaGrange. Lagrange points. I think that's a Zizi top song.
Starting point is 01:39:59 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No, yeah. That's where they. That's where they are now. What one of them just died. right? One of the ZZ Top guys.
Starting point is 01:40:07 Yeah, one of the easy top guys. That's where he is now. He was just a garage point. He's out. Donnie, we're not going to make you scream okay. But it's been a long time, actually. And to our, we've all been busy. No one's just. No, no, no.
Starting point is 01:40:25 I would object. I thought it's done a pretty damn good job of keeping up. Through text, text and socials and whatnot. I agree. I was going to say it's been a long time since we've had someone do just an off the cuff on the spot, BW tax ad read. And what I wanted to add to your portfolio is that since we've talked, you have a child and you have a second child. And there's a lot of things that your dad potentially, or at least my dad or your brother,
Starting point is 01:40:57 or at least my brother are like, have you set this up for your kid? Have you set this up for your kid? You own an LLC. Have you set this up for your kid? and I could be talking Trump account, Roth IRA, education fund, all that kind of stuff. So I would throw that to you as like a since we last talk to you, your life has dramatically changed in terms of like, hey, you do have this kid that you obviously care about their future in terms of how you parent them.
Starting point is 01:41:25 But you also, at least for me, I started day one of like, oh, like, how do I make sure that if something happens to me or if I live a long life that this kid has a little bit? like a great future. And people are going to think I'm kidding for the BW tax ad read, but I've thought I've consulted a lot with BW on terms of like, hey, what's the smartest way to do this? And so I just give that as a prelude of maybe different than your last BW tax ad read of how you might want to spend it. Wow.
Starting point is 01:41:59 I mean, the services are endless, right? Like I should have been taking notes this whole time. Yeah, a little off the cuff, VW tax. Yeah, whenever you're ready. And if you want me to talk to Jeff about the White Stripes for five minutes to give you time, I can tell him about at, so Anthony is the oldest member of the Wiggles. He's been a member of the Wiggles for 35 years. And he walked out.
Starting point is 01:42:27 And Simon, he's been a member of 30 years. And everyone else is like. Also part of the Beatles. Yeah, yeah. Everyone else is subsidiary. He says it was Anthony's birthday. and it says Anthony's birthday as a wiggle. It's been a wiggle for 35 years.
Starting point is 01:42:40 He's the longest standing wiggle. And then he played Sweet Caroline because he said he was in Boston. And then he said, I'll never play this in North America again. And so that's a story just to buy you some time to think about your tax read. That was a powerful story. Yeah. Three, two, one. Two, one, action.
Starting point is 01:43:07 All right. It's tax season. We got some... You're on the right track. We got some new kids on the way. Yeah. Our little tax shelters need protection. What are we going to do?
Starting point is 01:43:24 Oh my gosh, honey. I heard about DW tax listening. This ain't an ad reads. You should get... them a call. Wow, honey, you're right. I know all about BW. Tax. They save
Starting point is 01:43:43 thousands, thousands. Call BW. Tax today for your little tax shelters. I thought you were doing the old like AC commercial. That was great. That was great. I'll call soon. You call now.
Starting point is 01:43:59 Hey, so a little advice for you, Donnie B. And dad's listening. And you can hate Trump, like Trump, whatever. But if you have a kid to the end of, I think it's 2027, but it's definitely 2026, Donnie, Donald gives you $1,500. And if you had a kid in 2024, like I did, sign them up anyway. And when the money runs out, which not when it runs out, but when they realize that there's not enough signups,
Starting point is 01:44:35 I got a 250 stipend for Isabella. So you go on to Apple phone. This sounds stupid, but I know we have a lot of dads that listen, if you've had a kid in the last three years or you're expecting a kid in the next nine months, couldn't be farther than that, girl math. Go on the Trump app and make an account. And I don't care if you believe that the account is smart,
Starting point is 01:45:00 if you think that the investment strategy smart, they will give you free money. But you'll get a grand for your next, for your son, right? Yeah, son you said, yeah. Yeah, you'll get a grand for sure. Like you are definitely in the window. So is my daughter. Obviously, you can't do it until you have a social security number.
Starting point is 01:45:22 The kid has to be born and get the social security number. But yeah, you get free money. For legal purposes. Right. Mostly. Yeah. Just make up a social security number. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:45:31 It's not that hard. How many numbers is it? Yeah. I feel like we've got a while. We got to save rounds, Jeff, that we have to hit. Or should we just let Donnie? Donnie, usually we boot the guest off and then we continue the show. We've just left you on as a brother.
Starting point is 01:45:50 Jeff, is there anything we have to hit? I feel like I work the wiggles in there because that was important. One Dalli Parton thing real quick, one rest of a piece. But if you listen to, there's like a recording of like, So someone took the Jolene 45 record. So like the smaller single. And then you play it at 33 RPMs.
Starting point is 01:46:14 I've heard this. Sounds awesome. Yeah, it's awesome. So the funny thing that you mentioned that, and I'll keep this really short, I watched a Twitter clip today where Jolene is live, or excuse me, Dalli Parton, is live on some show.
Starting point is 01:46:27 I should know the guy's name probably. And she sings the song, have you ever thought of me like that? where she talks about how the flowers used to smell or whatever. And then she goes, now a lot of y'all got record players at home. It's from like 1975. And everybody's playing with the record players. And now I want to sing the song.
Starting point is 01:46:45 Like if you put it on 75 and she sings it fast, and it was incredible. And the show host goes, now can you do it on 33 and a half? And she goes, no, I'm not that talented. My voice is too keen. We're a legend. What a legend. Save round. Who's, it's, uh, playing in Ireland.
Starting point is 01:47:08 It's North Carolina versus TCU. TCU. Yeah. Yeah. You got TCU. Jeff, you got. All right, Chabell Hill. Jimmy, North Carolina, baby.
Starting point is 01:47:18 Carolina boy. Yeah. Donnie? Texas. Think of TCU. Okay. Two and two. I just think, I just think there's just too much around in the North Carolina.
Starting point is 01:47:29 I think, I'm optimistic, you know, with Bill. I'm a fan They'll date coeds Enemy gets a vote Donnie That is a good Can't argue with that logic Yeah Coles football Saturday
Starting point is 01:47:43 Solves Solves zero problems But you can't argue With the logic Any more save around Jeff Okay Donnie I know you have only listened to seven times
Starting point is 01:47:54 In the last 100 episodes But if you were going to bring this down For landing I would give you a couple tidbits Talk about the Stranko Talk about the OK podcast talk about the Slack channel and talk about it
Starting point is 01:48:05 yeah, those three will work. And talk about your veterans listening. Wait, so I'm closing this out? Yeah, you're just going to take it down for a landing. So, so you just literally, Tray just got shot in the head. Wow. What now, Lieutenant? What now?
Starting point is 01:48:23 Thanks. Take it down for a landing. I'll clean it up. I'll take it. Yeah. All right. This has been episode 124, by the way. Zero. Yeah. So, hey, guys. We're wrapping up episode 1-24 of the OK podcast. Okay, okay.
Starting point is 01:48:40 Okay. Hey, I just want to remind everyone of the Slack channel. Check us out. We can ask Grant Bot for some advice with your lifting needs. I just want to give a shout out to all my veterans listening. My brothers and sisters in arms, let's continue this fight together. and let's continue to serve our communities.
Starting point is 01:49:07 I love you all. There you go. That's great. Nailed it. I don't know. Wow. That was great. That was great.
Starting point is 01:49:14 Clean it up, Tray. Brother, that was fantastic. Only thing I'm going to add to that, go to www. the okaypodcast.com. You will find these social media links for the okay podcast there. Give us a like and a follow.
Starting point is 01:49:29 And most importantly, we are powered by the Strength Co. Most people have logged off at this time, but Labor Day weekend, there's a hondo off hindoes. So if you want a pair of hundos, you can save a hundred bucks. I got one saved round for you three.
Starting point is 01:49:46 A hundred ordinance, yeah. Injecture fast. I just want to, I didn't get to say this on the record last time, but I'm just proud of you guys. Bob. I am. I just want this one to be. to record it this time.
Starting point is 01:50:02 So, you know, love you guys and thanks for having me on. But I'm sorry to interrupt on the... No, you're good. The outro. Jeff, can you give him a good dude? Guy's a good dude. We've only had two people on twice. And one of them was only because it was Tray's brother.
Starting point is 01:50:22 Yeah, only reason. Only reason. I hope Caleb's listening. It's the only reason you were on. We appreciate it, Donnie. And I will say, not because you're proud of us, but it has been fun. And I think Jeff has seen this at the Air War College. And I think Trey's even experiences in civilian life now being out for a Trey.
Starting point is 01:50:44 You've been out 10 years, right? Yeah. The Marine support, the service support, and the people that are just like, hey, your podcast is super silly. but it's like really like I can't tell you how many I can't tell you because it's not more than 10 but more than five lieutenant colonels across branches since I've been in the Navy War College have been like hey your podcast gives me like a break and I'm like yeah and so I it only it only takes one person saying that to make it worth it so yeah exactly and I get to talk to my friends so that's the only that's a little reason I do
Starting point is 01:51:28 Not all that money we get, Trey. Yeah. Hey, you say this. Grants' mom sent me a pound cake. We need to talk about that next week. Oh, next episode, we got talking about the pancake. That's hung ordinance. We're going to leave Hong and we'll discharge the next episode.
Starting point is 01:51:45 Thanks for coming on, Donnie. Great to see you. I want to see your son. Do you have a blue onesie or just a pink one? Just the pinks. Okay, I got you a blue one in the mail. I'm going to send you a black one. next just to make sure the cadence our major's heavy.
Starting point is 01:52:01 Appreciate it. That's right, baby. See you guys. There you go.
