Hello, beautiful people, and welcome to our humble abode, the Thunderdome.
On this Sports Thursday, June 13th, 2024, this program starts right now.
Sports are fantastic, and we're lucky to talk about them every single day.
Last night, the Celtics continue to demolish every opponent that's put in front of them,
whether it's at home or away.
They win their 11th straight playoff game,
this time obviously to take a 3-0 lead in the NBA Finals against the Dallas Mavericks.
At one point in the fourth quarter, they were up 21 points,
and everybody's saying this one's over.
Then the Mavs fought back valiantly, got all the way down to a two-point game.
Inevitably, the Celtics would go on to win by seven,
and now we're starting to talk about maybe
the most dominant team in the history of the nba if they're able to sweep this one you know get out
the old broom and sweep right in front of all of dallas's face and go back to boston and have a
parade and a celebration very similar to the one that tom brady had last night up in foxborough
that we will certainly chit chat about People will be talking about this team forever.
Those two dudes right there, they've been trying to drive a wedge between these two for so long.
Tatum will go on and miss 14 straight shots, but while doing that, Brown will absolutely cook.
And then Tatum will get hot and Brown will pass the ball.
And then all of a sudden, who the hell are these white dudes on the Celtics making big-time plays?
They have been fun to watch. it's been an incredible run the conversation today isn't
about how great they are how dominant they are no no it's about Luka being a liability and Luka
bitching about everything every single time he has the ball or at times that the Mavericks
are on the offensive side of the court he ended up fouling out with five minutes left which is
obviously something that can't happen to a star player.
Six fouls in the NBA. Clear blocking foul.
Now they challenged it. He told
bench two, please challenge. This would be the
second call that they challenged for Luka.
Both of them would remain calls.
And I love the way Luka plays the basketball.
I like that he looks like he's maple
syrup moving around. I like that he moves
at his own pace. I like that he has his own
style, his own flavor. I hate watching him play basketball right now i hate well said i i don't like he just he
just bitches all the time and it's like hey bob i understand the refs suck we are sure maybe the
loudest advocates for that but you can't every single time you're on a court every single time you're on a court, every single time something happens, just bitch because you look like
a soft-ass
guy who should not be
on an NBA court.
That is literally what it is. Luka could be the next
face of this entire league. Luka could put
the NBA on its back. Luka has a fan
base around him already because of how great he is
and he's the first guy to have five straight
first-team All-NBAs to start
an NBA career, but he is tough to watch.
I don't know if I'm the only person thinking like this.
I think the world is thinking like this.
And I think it's something that Luka needs to figure out.
Now, Windy cut a promo on him to SVP after the game that was fire.
Yeah, unreal.
Absolutely fire.
I would assume Luka and his people will watch this,
and then they'll see that everybody is saying to Windy, not, hey, suit. Absolutely fine. I would assume Luka and his people will watch this, and then they'll see that everybody is saying to Wendy,
not, hey, suit, shut up.
Not, hey, Wendy, all you've done is followed LeBron your entire life.
None of that.
Everybody's saying, well, Wendy's saying is right.
Go on, Wendy.
Well, Wendy is saying is right.
So hopefully that's a little bit of a wake-up call maybe to Luka,
who we all love and potentially love.
Kyrie Irving shows up last night has a big game it
doesn't matter it does not matter with this boston celtics team and obviously we're going to chat
with javel mcgee today oh yeah in the second hour he is a founder of jug life foundation which is
about trying to supply clean water to those who don't have it around the globe i read some stats
800 million people do not have access to clean water. So he is obviously in the philanthropy
world, not the business, because he's not making any money.
He's in the philanthropy world.
I'm trying to make that happen. I can't wait to chat with him. He's won
three titles. He's been in the NBA for 16 years.
I'm excited to get his take on it
all. Not only just the Celtics being so
dominant, not seemingly getting much credit throughout
the entire season, entire playoffs,
or in the finals.
They're up 3-0.
Yep.
Luke is alive.
This guy.
This guy.
This guy just doesn't.
It's like not the Celtics are phenomenal.
And they'll be battling.
They'll be battling.
Mavs will be maybe in the middle of an incredible run.
And you look at the score, Celtics are still up eight somehow.
It's like, how does that work?
Well, they got a coach who's the youngest coach to get to the NBA finals since 1966
who's showing their team videos of MMA guys getting choked out.
And while they're losing their consciousness, potentially losing their soul,
they're remaining calm because that's really the only way you can be saved.
He's showing the team those videos.
And then on the other side, he got Luka going,
It seems like there's a different mindset
yeah it seems like there's a different pedigree in the championship pedigree that you dream of
your team having although this celtics team has not won yet they seemingly have it 3-0 now no
team has ever come back from a 3-0 series lead in the nba playoff so this one's about done. Congrats to the Celtics. Well, hold on.
Fox Stable is here at Ty
Schmidt and at Boston Connor. Way to go.
Hang another band.
Hang another band.
Paul Pierce did yesterday, too. Paul Pierce, after
the game, said, you know, gas up the duck
boat. This thing's cooked. They should.
When was the last time those things
were turned on? It's been a little bit. It's been too
long.
2018, I guess 2019 because the Patriots, that season of 2018,
ended up finishing in 2019.
But no, it is great to be from New England once again.
The Revolution region is all the way back. The Boston Celtics, I mean, you mentioned it.
They really don't get any credit, but they're at the point now
where it doesn't matter.
They've been criticized the entire season.
And not criticized, but more so just like,
well, they can win 60, 70 games,
but if they don't end up winning the finals, who gives a shit?
And that has been the last thing.
They literally got the Dak Prescott treatment.
Yeah, exactly.
The Boston Celtics as a team got the Dak Prescott treatment all year
where it was like, okay, yeah, they're winning.
But when it matters will they
will see us then when five months from now oh okay they secured a playoff spot before anybody else
remember that whole thing happened like weeks before anybody else because how dominant they were
during the regular season then during the playoff run in the east obviously the pacers were i got
to see this up live and in person in this team they're just all of a sudden you blink and they're
in the lead somehow and then it's over it just like, it's such a dominating style of basketball.
And they have been dominant all year.
And it really has been not a lot of chatter about the Celtics being great.
And Greeny even said it yesterday.
The Celtics were so good early, like literally from the beginning of the season.
We just kind of said like, all right, off.
But then while they just shoo that out of the conversation, they're talking
about how great everybody else is.
And it's like, so you shoo
the team out of a conversation because
of how great they are. But now you're having
conversations about who's the greatest, who's the next, who's the
face, who's this, while leaving them out.
I just don't think you can have both. And the Celtics,
I would assume, are utilizing this as motivation.
And that's why whenever they're up
and they're up 3-0,
they understand that this is not over yet.
They seem to be the most focused bunch, the least amount of drama,
least amount of controversy, even though it's getting thrown at them
at all times from the outside in.
They're a fun team to watch.
They are a fun team to watch.
The culture, the style of basketball, the performance, the non-bitching.
That's the best part.
They are not
complainers at all.
Mazula, not a complainer at all.
He's the youngest coach in the NBA.
It's a wild dynamic
that Boston Celtics have kind of figured out.
That's what the crazy part is to what Greeny said.
Hey, this team's so good that
we'll talk about them when it really
matters. When it really matters
in the playoffs, it's not talking about them.
It's more so after every single round, oh, well, this team in the West is going to win.
No, this team in the West is going to win.
They were still going to go to the finals for sure.
But seriously, no matter what, it was the Nuggets, and then it was the Timberwolves
after the Timberwolves beat the Nuggets, and then it was the Mavericks
who got 89% of the series bets before the series started. So it is one of those
things where it's kind of almost a welcome party. Like, yeah, mother, we are that team and we
probably will be for the next five years. Like you look at these guys. Sure. They are dominant.
They are, you know, very, very wise, if you will, by not bitching at all. Tatum's 26, Jalen Brown's
27. Drew Holiday is the elder states statesman i think he's like 31
this team is a team that's going to stay together they're all under contract aside from derrick
white who has already said hey i do want to be in boston still and then you got stuff like that
where it's that's one of the most violent dunks i have seen yeah and that's obviously they're up 15
but this is an nba finals i don't i care. This is Game 3 of the NBA Finals.
Well, if it was in a closer game, maybe.
Well, that's not their fault.
That is not their fault at all.
They would end up going up 21 after this entire run here,
and then the Dallas Mavericks would start chipping away in a 22-2 run,
and then all of a sudden the Boston Celtics wake up again,
and they end up taking the game away.
But it's like, you're right.
If I was a Celticsics fan i would be very easily
convinced that the entire world is against us oh yeah no that is just uh a matter of fact and you
said something i think to the ms i think you said something in the ms it's always about the other
team it's always about the other team well the pacers weren't supposed to be there because
they beat a hurt knicks team well the mavs Mavs, you know, Luka's liability.
He hasn't been all year, right?
No.
Every series.
But they talk about his defense.
But he hasn't been a liability that they've lost the series, right?
And they played some pretty good teams in the Western Conference
with some pretty good coaches.
Very good.
Some pretty good strategy and everything.
Well, now it's the Mavericks.
No, it's somebody.
It's never like the Celtics just beat ass.
Yes.
Like, how come that is not the conversation? thing well now it's the mavericks no it's somebody it's never like the celtics just beat ass yes like
how come that is not the conversation and if i was joe mizzoula i wouldn't care until after this
but during that duck boat parade at the end of it when i get a microphone i would certainly be
reminding some people about some things that have been said all year long about this celtics yeah no
matter what and that is the thing like it isn't about you know hey the game plan joe mizzoula
has built about,
let's attack Luka over and over and over again,
and let's switch on every single pick.
There are times when Kyrie almost looked like he was going to get to the bucket,
but the Celtics defense, they switch so quickly.
They just shut everything down.
And every single shot, and this is my favorite part about the team,
every single shot they have is contested, no matter what.
The Mavericks, if they're going to the hole and it looks like
it's an open layup or something, there is
somebody coming over from the opposite
corner or help side, and they're putting
a hand in someone's face. That is...
Yeah, they're a blue-collar bunch. Truly are.
And it goes to Joe Mazzulla. That starts
and ends with Joe Mazzulla. And it's not as if
Mazzulla has been with this team for
a long, long time. He was an assistant coach
before, but he's only been the head coach for a couple years.
This is his second year as the head coach, and they're already in the finals.
You can argue, of course, hey, Brad Stevens kind of took this team when Tatum was a guy
or a young guy and Jalen Brown was a young guy and developed them and everything like that.
Maybe.
Absolutely, but still having the mindset that they do.
That's all Joe Missoula and also Al Horford, who's older than Joe Mazzulla.
Controlling, like, egos and personalities,
making everybody row in the same direction.
That is what coaches – you're supposed to cultivate a culture.
That is what coaches are supposed to do.
Motivate, inspire, strategize.
But mostly, let's make sure everybody is bought into what our team is.
Everybody on the team needs to be bought into what we're trying to do,
and they are.
Because there's moments where they start playing like crap.
They start playing like crap and nobody
blinks.
Pacers were up 18 in one of the
games. Nobody blinks.
Nobody cries. Nobody complains.
Nobody starts pointing a finger at anybody
else even though the rest of the world is trying to.
Hey, Tatum needs to do this. Hey, Jalen,
don't you think Tatum needs to be a little bit...
Hey, don't you think
that Jalen
Brown needs to be a little bit better?
Tatum, don't you think... Come on. Come on. You should be
talked about more. And they just
don't. They just don't even bother getting
into the conversation. Will they be able to handle
success? Now that's the next conversation. Exactly.
Nobody's going to be able to compliment
the Celtics now dominating the run.
They're immediately going to go, can this team repeat?
Will they be able to still act the same way that they act now?
They're a blue-collar, humble bunch seemingly now.
Are they still going to do that after the duck boat parade?
After they hang another banner and become the all-time leading NBA championship team
over the Lakers winning another one?
Will they be able to do that?
Will Joe Mazzola be able to handle the team through the successful times
as opposed to just the failure times?
That's going to immediately be it.
For sure.
And it's wild because I am not a person that sides with Boston
on many things in the sports world because you guys had the greatest dynasty
of all time that was celebrated last night.
So, wow, wow, wow, we don't want to hear it.
That's kind of how I am.
I think that's how the whole world is, especially here in Indianapolis.
There's a team that had to, you know,
square off with the Patriots throughout that entire thing,
through the entire 20-year run with Peyton Manning.
And at one half of the hammer, Cowboys,
Tone Diggs from Pittsburgh, the Steelers, same exact way with this.
So, it's hard to feel any empathy or sympathy at all for Boston people.
But the conversation around the Celtics all year is hilarious.
Yeah.
And it has been.
And if they sweep this, I can't wait to hear how they avoid giving credit to the Celtics.
Yes.
That's what I am pumped up about.
The conversation was about how Tatum, you know,
obviously he only had 18 points the other night,
even though he had, you know, 12 assists and nine rebounds.
But he scores 31, you know, six and six.
And then the conversation isn't about him.
They're not talking about when he does well.
And it is pretty historic because I saw something Jalen and Tatum are the
first two Celtics teammates to both have 35 and five in a game.
And if you think about the history of the Boston Celtics and the amount of
unbelievable players that they've had, you know, bird, obviously with, you
know, Parrish, havek, all those guys.
McHale. The teammates,
Bill, of course, but Bill was Bill.
Come on. But the teammates
and the teams that they have had in
the history of the Boston Celtics is one
thing. But then for them to be setting records
within that team is
excellent. A lot of the Garnett and Pierce runs.
Exactly. Garnett, Pierce, Ray Allen,
all of that thing. That's not the conversation today, and run. Exactly. Garnett Pierce, Ray Allen, like all of that thing.
And that's not the conversation today.
And that's fine.
Well, it's Luka's law.
Because it's Luka.
Yeah.
And that's completely fine.
Thanks a lot, Wendy.
It's incredible that they're here and it's 3-0 and it isn't finished yet.
It's not over yet because, you know, no team's ever come back.
Yeah, but you lose one game and you at least get to do it at home.
Yeah.
For sure.
I mean, it's over.
For sure.
I get he has to do that because I do the same thing.
I want to jinx it.
This is over.
Okay.
Mavericks lost.
I'm sorry.
Hey, good year, though.
Yeah.
I mean, that's a great run.
Great run.
It's over.
They lost.
Man, the Celtics won another championship.
I know.
That's crazy.
Not yet.
Yeah, they did.
Almost.
Why don't we just hang that banner before the next game?
There's no point in even playing the next game.
I agree.
There's really not.
Missoula should just rest the boys, actually,
because even the backups will be able to win this.
I honestly think they could.
Yeah.
You guys are assholes, okay?
All three of you.
We're complimenting the Celtics.
No, you're not.
You're doing it in a way that Pat was like,
oh, the welcome party of Pittsburgh.
That's what you guys are doing.
And that's fine.
That's fine.
I get it.
But we're almost there.
Okay?
Friday night, for the first time ever, we finally just have one night off.
And then the game again.
That's the only time it's happened in this final.
So, you know, we rest Porzingis.
I'm not saying you rest the goddamn starters like you guys are saying.
No, yeah.
It's already in.
Hayes in the barn.
No, Hayes not in the barn.
Hayes in the barn until we are on that parade and Joe Mizzoula's cutting promos on everybody. Then we can say that Hayes in the barn. No, Hayes not in the barn. Hayes in the barn until we are on that parade and Joe Mazzullo's cutting promos on everybody.
Then we can say the Hayes in the barn.
And then guess what?
Got to go back to back.
I think the Hayes in the barn, but Luka may be standing there with a match.
Just one last match.
Especially with how everybody, listen to how we talked about him.
How everybody in the actual basketball community is talking about him.
If we know Luka, he will be back.
He does need to stop with
the whining. It's ridiculous, man.
People talk about LeBron.
Flopping. You can see why people hate
LeBron because it seems like
he does. He does it a lot, but
LeBron is also either one
or two of the greatest players of all time.
I'm not saying Luka couldn't get to that level
at some point, but it is, man.
It's like every time you look up, he's either on the court bitching at the refs
or he's going in, missing a layup, bitching at the refs.
It's like, hey, guess what?
If you bitch at these guys all game, you think all of a sudden in the fourth quarter
they're just going to start being like, oh, you know what?
Let's give this guy who's been riding our asses for three games straight
all the calls that we haven't given him thus far.
If he thinks it's going to get better, guess what?
They're going to screw his ass over in the next game too.
That's the way it goes.
You can't bitch at these guys incessantly.
For everything.
Yeah, for everything.
It's tough to watch.
Joining us now is a man who probably has a little bit more information.
You know what?
Luka might be in a bad mood because his knees hurt.
That's possible.
And his ribs, he's banged up.
So maybe we shouldn't just be judging, you know,
his mood on these particular evenings because heightened,
obviously it's the finals.
For sure.
And he probably feels miserable.
We've seen him walk in there.
But it is tough to watch.
Joining us now, senior NBA insider for The Athletic and FanDuel TV,
has been coming on this show since before both of those jobs existed.
Ladies and gentlemen, friend of the program.
Long time friend of the program.
Sean Sharonia.
I called you Sharonia. That's on me.
Sharonia.
What happened to Sean?
Can Sean be retired?
We don't do
WNBA talk anymore, so Sean
is probably not going to show up.
The universe has told me not to do that.
So rest in peace to Sean, Sharania.
Moment of silence.
Silence.
Sean, you disrespectful piece of shit.
I mean, I can't.
All right, let's move along here.
Shams, let's talk about injuries in the finals,
and then we'll talk about some breaking news that is taking place
in head coaching search for the Los Angeles Lakers.
I think you reported Porzingis potentially back for game four.
Now, a lot of people were talking about yesterday's game being the Mavericks game to win, and maybe even the sportsbooks thought that because Porzingis wasn't playing.
Even though their winning percentage without Porzingis was higher than their winning percentage with Porzingis, I'm talking about the Boston Celtics.
That was the big storyline of game three. You're reporting that there's a chance he's back
for game four. How likely is that? And what are your thoughts on the whole situation?
The Celtics have not ruled out Chris Porzingis yet. I was told last night after the game that
there is a chance that he plays in game four. He wants to play bad. He didn't want to say game
three. I got a little bit more information about the injury itself.
Obviously, it's a two-part injury.
It causes some swelling as well, affects the ankle area-ish,
and I think that's why they were very cautious with him.
Seeing his exact movement, seeing he worked out yesterday,
and he moved around.
They just did not, the Celtics medical side,
did not feel like he was moving
well enough for him to play on this torn, medial.
Oh, no.
Oh, geez.
You got it.
Sound it out.
Bushley, this guy.
Bushley.
So, but now I think they're going to look at him again today.
He's going to work out a little bit more. He's going to work out more on Friday. And then they're going to look at him again today. He's going to work out a little bit more.
He's going to work out more on Friday.
And then they're going to see, is he fluid enough?
Is he moving well enough for him to go and play?
It's one of the most unique injuries we have seen.
I've never seen an NBA player.
I'm trying to get the pronunciation.
Oh, yeah.
Go step back in the batter's box.
Get it right.
Torn, medial, retinaculum.
This kid can't even read.
Allowing the dislocation.
Yeah, you're doing great.
Hey, don't worry about it.
None of us can read that.
There was actually a couple of tweets that went out that looked like they were in a different language about Porzingis' injury.
What it sounds like is they are going to test it.
We'll see how it goes.
And if I do recall, they said this decision was taken completely out of Porzingis' hands, right?
It's going to be training staff and doctors that are going to tell him whether or not he can play?
Yeah, this is completely the Celtics training staff.
They're going to be the ones that give the green light or not.
And that's really what – Chris Oswingas wants to play extremely badly.
And just imagine being out there on an elimination game
against your former team in Dallas.
And I think that's why he's going to give it the best he can to go.
And if he's not moving well enough, they're just simply going to sit him.
Okay, so let's talk about another injury in this series.
And the conversation is about Luka being a liability today.
Because there's a bunch of videos on the internet,
on social media of him pointing to literally nobody
and then his guy banging down a three.
And I think he got unlucky too.
Every video I saw, like, the Celtics could have easily missed the shot.
Instead, they made every single one in which he was kind of in an interesting spot.
He's injured, though.
Like, I'm watching, and I'm not a big basketball guy, obviously.
I will watch games
but i never played so i don't really know the ins and outs of it he seems to bitch at the refs more
than anybody in history is that how he always is or is he maybe in a little bit of a bad mood
because the body hurts so much they're in the finals and it's not going exactly how he sees it
going so it just came to me it's torn medial retinaculum so it just came to me. It's torn medial retinaculum. So it just came to me. Literally just came to me. This guy's so fast.
Get off it.
As far as Luka is concerned, there's always been this thing, right?
It's the refs.
It's his conditioning, the shape that he's in.
And last summer, it was about the conditioning, the shape that Luka Doncic was in.
And the Mavericks did test him about it.
And there were some serious conversations had.
And Luka Doncic came into this season in the best shape that they've seen him probably since his rookie year and and so we've seen when luca don't just puts
his mind to something he he can make it all happen he's one of the best players in the league
i've seen game two of the 30 point triple double um and and last night filing out with with four
minutes plus left in the game like just can't happen wrong place wrong time has to have has
to figure out a way to stay out there on the court and um he wasn't able to and obviously we see him
right there he did not agree with the foul call replays obviously showed that it was a foul um
but listen they're gonna there's gonna be even more conversations after this map season right
because this team we saw it this year, they're close.
I don't know how close they were to beating the Celtics
because the Celtics right now, to me, seem head and shoulders above any team
in the league right now.
Not yet.
Not yet.
It's their year.
And I think getting Kersaus-Puzinger, getting Drew Holiday,
Drew Holiday, the way that they were able to turn Marcus Smart's loss,
I thought that was going to be a massive loss for that team.
Not having a guy that can play multiple positions, can guard, can defend,
be a veteran anchor in the backcourt.
They lose him.
They get Christoph Sporzingis, but they needed another guy to play that role.
And it just so happens that Drew Holiday falls right in their lap.
Okay, so let's move away from the final series that you just said was over.
And congrats to the son of a bitch.
I just said it feels like the Celtics year.
No, you said it.
If we were to go back, you were like.
Medial retinaculum, that's it.
Yeah, you did say that.
You did say that a couple times.
Way to go.
You nailed it.
We think.
Actually, we don't know.
We could not have corrected you if you were wrong.
But you said we don't know how close the Mavs were to beating the Celtics.
Yep.
It's their year.
It's like, whoa.
Okay.
So it's, oh, congratulations.
They were close.
Like, they played game two pretty tough.
They played game three, obviously.
Like, they had a double-digit lead.
And then middle two quarters completely got blitzed.
And then right there at the end, they were down 20 in the fourth.
They make it a game.
Like, they got it to within, what, three, two?
Two.
So, like, you give yourself a puncher's chance.
These are games within the margin games.
It's a make or miss league.
They just didn't make enough shots and didn't have enough
players step up.
You know who made the shots this year?
Our champions.
The Boston Celtics.
Shocks of wine!
All of you, stop clapping!
Last question here for you, Shams.
Massive breaking news this morning all across ESPN.
J.J. Redick is getting a formal interview with the Los Angeles Lakers this weekend.
Feels like this was maybe inevitable in some parts of conversation,
but is this real?
Is this his first interview?
And what are you hearing about J.J. Redick potentially being the coach of the Lakers?
This is the second time that J.J. Redick is meeting with Rob Palenka and the Lakers.
He met with Rob Palenka and the Lakers the week of May 13th at the Draft Combine in Chicago.
They met for nearly two hours there, from what I was told.
And then the Lakers met for over two
hours with james brago in la so that's been the timeline and then they met as well with james
brago a couple weeks after that as well let's see let's see if i get my date right uh yeah they met
with james brago as well near the end of may so two meetings for james brago in person obviously
jj reddick has had um Redick has had a lot of interest
from the Lakers throughout this process. I said on this program, Pat, if you remember,
I actually said on your program on May 24th that JJ Redick is the favorite and that it is down to
JJ Redick and James Brago as the two finalists for the Lakers. And that has not changed. It didn't
change. Nothing changed from that point. I reported on it as well in the athletic last
Tuesday. I believe that was June 4th. And really throughout the Lakers process, nothing has
changed. They need to see how J.J. Redick, of course, does in more meetings, meets with Jeannie
Buss in ownership. But listen, I said also on May 24th, it's
interesting, the dots are kind of connecting, right? Like the timeline is falling into place.
We have the draft in about two weeks. The finals are about to be over potentially as soon as
Friday. I mean, this is a fact. It's going to be over as soon as Friday and then the Lakers
will hire their head coach. I mean it is interesting timing it's
just I find it very interesting yeah it's very interesting and obviously we all know what
happened with Dan Hurley and the Lakers a six-year 70 million dollar offer was made to Dan Hurley he
decides to return back to UConn now all systems go back potentially into the JJ Redick or Borrego
camp which you mentioned I think a couple days, they could have hired him a few different times now.
They had him into their facility for meetings all day
with ownership, with Rob Palenka,
with their entire staff about two weeks ago.
They've interviewed him for about a month now.
If the Lakers wanted to make,
and James Borrego, to his credit,
is also very much in play with the Cavaliers to be their next head coach.
I think that coaching search will come down to Kenny Atkinson,
the Warriors assistant, and James Borrego.
But that's really a neck-and-neck process.
So he's in play there.
And James Borrego is going to get another head coaching job,
whether it's this cycle or the next cycle.
I think people really respect the job he's done with our boy, with your boy Zion, the way that he's allowed that Pelicans offense to
flourish the last year or so. But the Lakers have been focused on J.J. Redick. James Brago has been
a candidate in this as well. And the biggest thing for them is making sure you go through the
process, you go through the right timeline of this all.
And I think it's at a point now where even the key players on the Lakers,
there's a level of understanding among some stakeholders,
and they would support if a guy like J.J. Redick
were to be the head coach of this team,
which this is a decision that comes down from Rob Blanca and Jeannie Buss.
All right. Hey, we appreciate the hell out of you, Shams.
We can't wait to see how this all unfolds.
And I'm sure you can't wait to see how this all unfolds.
And I'm sure you can't either.
Ladies and gentlemen,
insider for The Athletic and FanDuel TV, Shams Sharani.
Yeah, Shams!
Hey!
Shams has been on the show
a long time. I love that guy.
So he's not with Stadium anymore? I don't know.
Is that a thing? I was going to say,
does Stadium even exist anymore?
I don't know, because that's who he was originally working for.
Correct.
Back whenever he started coming on our show like five years ago.
Yeah.
Shams was our NBA guy.
Pre-COVID.
Shams is our NBA guy.
Completely okay with other NBA guys being our guy,
but Shams has literally been our guy for half a decade now.
Game one.
We said the show's not going to change.
Shams, hey,
he's handsome.
He's young. Loves lunch.
Nice jumper.
Kind of adolescent. He's got a good
nice youthful
spryful
spry kind of feel.
Jumps. That guy is
never stopping on the phones.
No.
He understands what he signed up for, and I think we kind of did, too.
I don't think we knew what all was going to entail, but boy, that one really went the other day
whenever Sean said, you know, I've been reporting this for a long time.
I'll be excited to see how it all works out.
Me, too.
Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, in a different world, the NFL world,
a man who was a part of
a couple of the Super Bowls up there in New England.
A man who's been a general manager in the NFL
before. He's an author. He's a speaker.
He's a daily newsletter. Ladies and
gentlemen, podcast host, live show host,
Michael Lombardi.
I want to know who
doesn't like lunch. That's what I would like to know.
Who doesn't like lunch? I mean, seriously.
Yeah, you're right. I love lunch.
Nobody likes lunch as much as Shams, though.
Old tweets of his from high school is like every single day of school he tweeted about almost lunchtime.
And that makes sense for Shams, though.
Yeah.
He eats yogurt with a fork.
Yeah, oatmeal as well.
Oatmeal with a fork as well.
I mean, Shams is an interesting guy, but he is in the NBA insider game.
And all eyes are on who's going to be coaching the Lakers for a lot of reasons.
Lambeau, let's get to the event that happened last night.
I mean, up there in Foxborough with a Boston Celtics Game 3 Finals game
happening at the same time.
Tens of thousands of people packed out Gillette Stadium
to celebrate Tom Brady going into the Hall of Fame.
The number 12 being retired,
and unveiling the fact that there will be a 12-foot Tom Brady statue outside of the stadium
in the coming years or whatever the case is. It's like, what a beautiful night, what a beautiful
celebration. And I got to see Bill Belichick get like a three to four minute standing ovation from
the people in New England. Randy Moss got emotional. I mean, it was a perfect night
seemingly for this event. Did you feel the same way watching along? And what are your thoughts
now as we sit less than 12 hours removed from the event? Well, I loved it. I loved everything
about it. Look, I mean, I wouldn't have two Super Bowl rings if it wasn't for the great Tom Brady
or Coach Belichick and that organization. So it's wonderful to be recognized.
And I think the New England fans understand and appreciate their former head coach in spite of
the infomercial that they watched on Apple. I think they truly understand that he was responsible.
But what I love the most is the players. I thought Randy Moss was awesome, talking about how Bill held everybody accountable,
how he knew he was in the right place. Willie McGinnis talking about how they worked and they
set the standard. To me, it was all about what they coined was the Patriot Way. And it was a
tribute to that with Tom being the representative of all great things that happened up there in New
England. So I think it was just truly a great, great moment.
Now they're changing how they're going to do things moving forward,
which is fine, but it's always good to pay back
those who have made this franchise
that when Robert Kraft purchased it was worth about $250,000
and now it's worth billions and billions, over $9 billion.
I appreciated everybody telling their stories.
I also appreciated this two-minute rant from Tom Brady last night talking about the importance
of football.
Whatever makes them happy makes me happy.
I would encourage everyone to play football for the simple reason that it is hard.
It's hard when you're young to wake up in the off-season at 6 a.m.
to go train and work out,
knowing that all your friends are sleeping in and eating pancakes.
It's hard when you're on your way to practice,
weighed down with all your gear,
and it's 90 degrees out and all the other kids are at the pool or at the beach,
and your body is already completely exhausted from workouts in two
days. It's hard to throw, catch, block, and tackle and hit kids when they're way bigger and way more
developed than you, only to go home that night bruised and battered and strained, but knowing
you have to show up again the next day for just the chance to try again. But understand this, life is hard.
No matter who you are, there are bumps and hits and bruises along the way. And my advice is to
prepare yourself because football lessons teach us that success and achievement come from overcoming adversity.
And that team accomplishment far exceeds anyone's individual goals.
To be successful at anything, the truth is you don't have to be special.
You just have to be what most people aren't.
Consistent, determined, and willing to work for it.
No shortcuts.
If you look at all my teammates here tonight, it would be impossible to find better examples of men who embody that work
ethic, integrity, purpose, determination, and discipline that it takes to be a champion
in life.
Now, there's a chance, and Connor's the one that said this earlier, when he's doing that
speech, he's potentially fighting back emotions as he's
describing his teammates which is why he's delivering in the fashion he is but what did
you hear there what a perfect depiction of the sport of football and also the reality of what
hard work brings yeah i mean really what he talked about is leadership right everybody thinks
leadership is about some guy some man or woman getting people to listen to them.
No, it's about creating a following.
It's about creating a sense of belonging.
And through a sense of belonging, you create a team.
And what Tom was so eloquently saying is everything that I believe,
and it's what I stand on my soapbox and preach about.
It's about the team, the team, the team.
It's about how do we make amateurs young men and women and
turn them into professionals how do we make somebody understand how important it is to work
together to a collective cause we lost a great great executive a great west virginian from cabin
creek down there in west virginia jerry west recently This is all he talked about. He won one title in 1972,
but he relished in all the ones he won as an executive.
He knew it was a team sport.
He couldn't get over losing, even as great as he was.
He was the logo, and he couldn't get over the losing.
It caused him craziness in the offseason
because it was all about winning titles.
And I think ultimately,
that's what Brady understood and recognized. It's about how do we become professionals? How do we
keep working hard? I think this is why Kansas City's been able to win two Super Bowls. Mahomes
gets it. Andy Reid gets it. You know, there's no easy road to success. It's ups and downs. It's
bumps. You know, Luke Combs didn't become Luke Combs because he just
decided to write a song one day. He had to go through the struggles and the trials and
tribulations of all the things. And that's where we learn it. There's a difference between having
experience and having expertise. Experience builds you for the moment. Expertise takes you through
the moment. And I think that's what was a reflection of what
we saw last night. And every player understood it was us, not one person. I appreciate everything
that Tom and you are kind of laying out here because there is a real fear. And I don't know
if it's by a lot of people or by just some people who have been a part of team sports their entire
life, that the modern generation that is currently going to be going through professional athleticism here in a
while has no idea about just like the team, team, team, team, team mantra because they're
living in a society that is promoting them, them, them as a one, as one, as one, as one.
I mean, you got kids picking hats off a table that are being seen by millions of people to commit to college.
These dudes haven't done anything in college at all,
let alone the NIL money where people are getting paid to go play at schools.
And then they might not even play a single down, make a couple hundred thousand dollars.
They think they've got it figured out.
Well, what do I need to do next?
Well, not get better at football so I can play on this team.
No, I need to go hunt a check somewhere else.
Where does the adversity come in where they can callous themselves
and their egos and get a little humble and buy into a team?
There is a genuine worry that it's not going to exist anymore,
especially in a sport like football where you need it.
So the fact that that's kind of become Tom Brady's mantra,
and that's like kind of his entire thing.
And I assume when he's commentating on games, that's going to shine through.
But hard work and team are kind of everything that Tom Brady's been preaching since he has retired.
And I think if you think about the Tom Brady experience whenever he was playing, he's handsome.
He's hateable.
He's dating a supermodel.
He's married to a supermodel.
He's got all these deals.
He's eating this weird shit.
Like I think a lot of people think he's like prima donna guy.
And then he comes out, and you've got a lot of people that have hated Tom Brady for a long time.
And they hear him speak, and they're like, oh, this guy's kind of like old school.
He's like old school.
He's like a humble old school guy.
I mean, I kind of like this Tom Brady.
It's weird, but I appreciate that this is his messaging because people will listen to the
greatest of all time like when he did that fanatics meal out in California during the rookie thing
and his entire message was like if your team has success you will have success like that was his
entire goal was to get through these young guys head I love that that's what he's doing
Lambeau I love it's good for. It's good for society as well.
Well, there's a new book out by Jonathan Hyatt who wrote it.
He's a professor at NYU called The Anxious Generation. And he touches on a lot of these in his book.
And what we're dealing with today is a lot of young men and women who come from what
we call a phone call generation, a phone generation.
Whereas you and I, when you were in Plum, Pennsylvania, and I grew up here in Ocean
City, we're from a playground generation so we went to the playground after school got our clothes beat
up got dirty made our moms mad you know had our lunch stolen got in a fight with a bully we learned
all that today about the phone right okay stole drank beer in somebody's basement you know we did
all those things right but i i think what we as leaders
and i go back to billy joe wrote a song called we didn't start the fire and it's about his life and
all the trials and tribulations he went through so today leadership just takes on a different form
people still want to win people still want to be successful at what they do just because they're
on their phones all the time doesn't mean it doesn't want to happen.
You as a leader have to transcend that.
You have to create a following based on how you're going to help and how you're going to connect.
And Brady's messaging is powerful because he's lived it.
No one's going to win a title.
Look, Jim Harbaugh worked the Michigan team as hard as they could.
They won, right?
The UConn Connecticut, if you watch their practices with Danny Hurley, they're hard. The Chiefs practices, they're hard. Brady talks about
hard. Hey, getting anything in life is hard. Nobody's giving you out. Look, the thing I've
learned in my life, I don't know if this is common or not, but they don't give away free homes in
Beverly Hills. They just don't give away free homes in Beverly Hills. You got to buy one and earn one. And I think that's the messaging that has to come across. And Brady's
going to be a spokesman for that. But let's not make any mistake about this. The team that wins
a Super Bowl, wins a title, will be the one that works hard, that overcomes obstacles during their
season. It's never going to change. That formula will never change no matter
how many people from the outside tell us, well, if you get in this personnel group, you're going to
win. No, it's going to take a collective group of men and women to win a title. Yeah. And it's not
just football to win a game. It's like anything in life you got to work your ass off for if you
want to be successful. And I think that gets lost in the social media generation because you're seeing some people who are maybe born on third base, thought they hit a triple
acting like they figured it all out and they just got all the nice things. It's like, nah, nah,
that is for a very small percentage of human beings who happen to be from the lucky sperm club
who get a chance at a nice life over none of their own work for everybody else. You're going to have
to work your ass off. And that was seemingly the message from Tom
last night on the biggest night that he's had on a microphone
since retirement.
The roast had a little different vibe.
Bill Burr filled in for that, though.
Bill Burr filled in for that
and did his thing. I thought it was well executed,
well done last night by everybody in the Patriots
organization.
Hell yeah. Well done.
Now, Bill will get one of those.
Yes. You better. You know, Bill will get one of those. Yes.
You better.
You know, Bill will get one of those nights.
He should.
And Tom will get the moment where he gets a three-and-a-half-minute
standing ovation before he even talks about somebody else,
just like Bill did last night.
And when Tom said, at the very end of it,
I thought it was a truly beautiful thing about it's not me, it's not you,
it was us.
That felt like a real message, and that goes back to his team thing now speaking of teams you mentioned one the michigan team jim harbaugh
there's conversation coming out of the chargers this year about that whole situation tone has a
question for you yeah you did lambo and uh you talked about the hard practices and now the
chargers are all the chargers players are coming out and saying how different even just these ota
practices are the attention to detail how hard they're working, and how some of them took pay cuts
just for this opportunity to do it with Harbaugh.
What do you think the difference between, obviously, Staley and Harbaugh,
or just how much better the operation is going to be with Harbaugh moving forward?
And a quote just came out from Harbaugh that said that when he's cutting practices, he's cutting practices 30 minutes short or he's cutting weightlifting 30 minutes short,
the players are not listening to him and they are continuing on with their workouts and stuff.
How like.
It becomes a beaver dam of activity.
Yeah.
So how is that like, how is that just like going to change the entire Chargers team?
Well, look, you're talking about a guy who's won 70% of his games as an NFL coach, right?
He's won a national championship.
He took the 49ers to a Super Bowl.
He's never really experienced any downfall.
I mean, he went from being an assistant quarterback coach to spending most of his career as a head coach.
He can get people to follow him.
He can get people to buy into a cause bigger than themselves.
And when you do that, you become dangerous as a team.
You don't have to be the most talented team.
You have to be the most connected team.
And I think what he's going to do is make them mentally tough.
He'll make them physically tough.
He'll make them understand that if we work hard, we'll get through this.
Look, the Chiefs do it all the time.
The Chiefs have a drill in their practice that I think they call it the long drill,
where they just work their ass, where they're going through it. It's hard. It's 14 plays,
18 plays, and the players gravitate towards it. It's like our football team in New England. You
didn't have to tell them to go over to the hill. They ran over to the hill to do it, right? That's
when you know you have a sense of belonging and you've created something that it's going to be
hard to get your foot in front of. And we try to take the path of least resistance we want to make everybody happy
and you know when you try to make everybody happy no one's happy that's why they've never
dedicated a monument to a committee there's no monuments in washington dedicated to the
the keyfauver committee of course there's. Harbaugh's like this too.
They're going to be, look,
I'm just telling you, they're going to be physical. You're going to have to show up
and beat them. They're not going to
give you the game because they do something stupid
and go for it on fourth down
in their own territory.
There is the statue
for the committee, actually, potentially.
We were talking about this yesterday when the show ended.
We were standing outside because it was 90 degrees with not a cloud in the sky.
We were having a conversation.
I don't want to say it's a cop-out, but it kind of is.
So whenever you're just relying on numbers to tell you what to do,
that is like a committee that you're just saying.
Like, for instance, instance staley allegedly now he
told us it's just his gut instinct it's not the numbers but if you see 71 of the time you do this
you go for it and then you decide to do it strictly because that's 71 you always have the option of
saying 71 of the time this is like that that made the decision not me i think it's kind of a cop-out
i don't necessarily love it's become more of a thing, though, now, with the introduction of stats, not just for football, but life.
It's becoming a thing.
Go ahead.
But remember, football is, you can put stats in it,
and I think it's important.
Agreed, agreed, agreed.
But here's the problem.
If it's fourth and one, and your right tackle can't block J.J. Watt,
and you call a run play behind him,
that's not 71 anymore right because you
can't block jj won't oh no stats people shut them down this game is a different you guys are going
to experience this with belichick on every game's going to be different and every game has to be
handled differently you know you may say let's kick a 42 yard field goal but in certain situations
that field goal may be really challenging look at the look a 42 yard field goal but in certain situations that field goal
may be really challenging look at the look at bass's field goal at the end of the buffalo game
right he the first field goal attempt in that game against the chiefs he barely made it and the last
one he couldn't make it because the wind down there is so dramatically different and you got
to understand situations as it relates remember football is a game of players and plays, not just a spreadsheet.
And this notion that, which is crap, I saw somebody write this years ago,
that momentum doesn't matter.
No, no, no, no.
That's really crap.
That's really crap.
That's like when – that is crap.
It is absolute crap.
But that's like – you know, because we're taking shots, not we,
but a lot of football people are taking shots at the stats community.
Yep.
Right?
Now, we all appreciate stats.
I think it is quite an added advantage to make a decision.
It is phenomenal.
The super smart, nerdy math people getting into football, we absolutely love.
But their defense back saying that momentum isn't real was like a—
Okay.
You sound like doofuses right now.
Yep.
You sound like people that have never been around sports before.
That's literally what...
That's right.
And that's what it is.
Yes.
And they've never felt it.
They've never hit one and been like, hey, I need that.
Oh, boy.
I'm hot.
And it doesn't make sense.
None of us fully understand why momentum is a thing,
but it is very real, and situations are situational.
But with that being
said harbaugh is going to have a culture of like tough guys and it's funny to me that i didn't know
if it was going to work in the nfl because in college you can go recruit the people that you
want you can go recruit the type of guys that you need in the nfl that's not necessarily the case
if you want jj mccarthy well there's going to be other teams that want jj mccarthy as well so maybe
the perfect person for your culture isn't available
for your team, but it feels like the Chargers
have been yearning for this type of thing.
Like, hey, we want to win. Like, Justin Herbert
wants to win. We've been close in so many games
that we've lost. They are a cardiac team
because they are in it at the end
and then they trick it off every
single time, seemingly. If they're able to get
over the hump in L.A. with what's going on
with the Rams, right, hold on a second.
Now we've got a real move.
I'm pulling for Harbaugh very, very hard.
Now, there's another team that seemingly nobody's pulling for
except for their fan base.
Go ahead, Ty.
Yeah, Lambeau, coming off talking about Harbaugh and Belichick and Brady,
three guys who basically could teach a master class on leadership,
go to the Jets and everything
that's going on with Robert Sala right now
and Rodgers. First, it's hey,
everything's, you know,
it's inexcused. Excuse me, not
unexcused. It's inexcused. They talked
about it, but it's inexcused that he's not there.
And then yesterday, Sala basically said
like, listen, Aaron and I have talked,
okay, we're on the same page. The only people who have an issue
with this are the people outside the building,
the media, which is basically the exact opposite of what he made it seem like
a couple days ago.
How do you think that whole situation is going to play out,
especially after you have Rodgers basically saying, like, hey,
we need to flush all the bullshit and just focus on football.
That's why things didn't work last year.
Like, how do you see this season going for the jets
especially when they're starting like i mean the season's not even here yet and we already have
this massive firestorm around the team well i mean that's an absence of leadership right i mean they
take on they they trade for hassan reddick who philly knows wants another contract right they
take him on and then they're surprised he's holding out and they haven't talked to him
yeah but he's working hard he's working hard and he's in a good frame of mind when you cut the
crap he's not happy he wants money he wants green look you have the off-season program right you sit
down with aaron you say aaron okay here's going to be our off-season program you're here in the
building are we going to do this so when you you basically say, you know, he left and, you know, it's not excused.
Did you two communicate or have a conversation?
It's an absence of leadership.
And look, Aaron wants to be – Aaron's a player.
He wants to be led.
All the players want to be led.
And every time they let Sala go in front of this microphone, more disasters start to happen.
Instead of it being a little fire, it becomes a forest fire. Like who's coaching him on what to say to the media? Then the other day, oh,
talk to Joe Douglas. It's his contract. He's doing that. Meanwhile, you can't find Douglas.
He's hiding in witness protection somewhere in West Cape Bay. I have no idea where he is. So
like at some point, who's running this team? It's an absence of leadership. It looks like a circus.
And I don't want to hear this.
I heard Greeney on the show the other day.
Well, they're still going to be a good team.
You can't be a good team if you have this much dysfunction.
You cannot be a good team.
You can't.
You cannot do it.
It's what Brady says.
It goes back to him.
You have to be completely focused on everything that matters.
And when you don't have leadership, it doesn't.
So to answer your question,
Ty, I mean, look,
I hope it works. I just have seen
this movie way too many times before.
And if they don't get some leadership and some
direction from the guy who's talking
to the media, this is going to be every week. It's good
for us because we can talk about it.
Yeah, it's great. I mean, I don't even think
it's good for us. For us
personally, as our show.
Because, you know, Salah doesn't
have an easy job. Head coaching the NFL
is not easy, especially in New York, especially with what
happened with the Jets last year. And the Jets have happened over
the last 30 years or so. And
obviously you're dealing with Aaron Rodgers, so everything that
happens is going to be a
lightning rod. I mean, that is just how it goes.
But I think that was a very easily manageable situation.
Easy, easy.
Yeah, I think so.
You and I could have gone in a room and handled this,
and it would have been no problem.
Instead, they'd light a fire and throw gasoline.
Like, who's running this team?
Like, where is the leadership?
Like, who is making this?
And then they put him out there to talk to the media.
I don't know. I don't know. Maybe it's his fault i don't know who's fault well you're the head coach of the new york jets you got a contract you're one you have a harder
job to get to the united states senator you're one of 32 humans on the planet and they put you
in front of the camera to go hum that i don't know i mean at some point that's enough and then
you're wondering why there's a backstage of the New York Post saying you're in it.
You know, like, what are we doing?
And you're running this team?
Like, how about, Robert, we've got a lot of specialists on media.
And we live in the largest city in the world, New York City.
I'm sure we can hire somebody to help you before you go out there.
Wouldn't that be a good idea so you don't talk in circles?
I think it would be a good idea.
The PR guy.
I think... That's not his fault.
They keep sending this guy out there
and he's getting slaughtered.
I mean, he's out of the hall.
I don't know who's out of the hall.
What are we doing, Pat?
This is a billion
dollar industry. What the hell are we
doing? How about
the next day when they ask him about
have you talked to Aaron about this?
No.
No, he said
no, we have not talked.
And then the next day was... Why would we?
Why would we? We have text, we have
cell phones, we're in the agent. Why would we talk?
Well, we don't know where he is.
I traded for Riddick, but I didn't talk to him.
You're the leader of the team. You didn't talk to a guy you I traded for Riddick, but I didn't talk to him. You're the leader of the team.
You didn't talk to a guy you just traded for?
How is that possible?
I guess Joe did it.
Well, he's down the hall.
Go talk to him.
Wait a minute.
Who is there?
Like, I mean, how do they even get to the game on Sunday?
You make you wonder.
All right.
Well, good luck to the Jets.
Yeah, go get them.
Good luck to the Jets.
Lambeau, we appreciate the hell out of you for stopping by, brother.
You're the best.
Always good.
Thank you.
Always great.
Ladies and gentlemen, Michael Lombardi.
Yeah, Lambo.
Humble, humble, humble, humble, humble.
Unreal.
Well, Joe's office is down the hall.
Who's telling him to say this?
Who?
Seriously.
He's watching his press conference.
Oh, yeah.
His entire thing is leadership. It is. He was a TED speaker watching his press conference. Oh, yeah. His entire thing is leadership.
It is. Yes. He did. He was a TED speaker, a TED talker on leadership, wrote a book on numerous books.
I think, yes, on leadership. He is just like massively fascinated by leadership.
So whenever people do stuff, they're just like, how's this guy in a position of leadership?
Because he and a lot of people, when you put in a position of leadership? Because he, and a lot of people, when you're put in a position of leadership,
that's a huge honor. You are the
one. He said it's a harder job to get than
a senator or whatever. It's like you are the one
representing an entire group right there. You've
been selected. You need to wear that as a badge
of honor, not just something that you get to do
like you are very lucky
to be doing this. So whenever they handle it in a
way where it's like, nah, yeah, nah, nah.
No, he's like, his head explodes.
Yeah. Oh, yeah.
Hummin' a hummin' a hummin' a hummin' a hummin' a hummin' a hummin' a hummin' a hummin' a.
Well, and like the people he learned from. It's like Al Davis,
Bill Belichick. So like he knows
what it's, yeah, Bill Walsh. Like he knows
what it looks like. And then
for that to happen. And he hasn't gotten everything right.
No, he's certainly not gotten everything right.
And it's not an easy job being a head coach in the NFL.
Especially with Aaron Rodgers coming off the year.
We very much acknowledge that.
But as soon as you hear him answer those questions,
you think to yourself, no way, this was the right way to do this.
Because you're immediately starting to fight.
Especially like you said, when you say something one day,
and then the next day, you know they're going to be asking you questions about it,
and you immediately contradict what you said the day before.
He blamed the media, too.
People go crazy, and then you talk again the next day, and you immediately contradict what you said the day before. When he blamed the media? He blamed the media too. So people go crazy and then you talk again
the next day and you immediately contradict
what you said the two days before that.
You're just giving them fodder to keep going at you.
Then they had hard knocks, obviously.
Opening speech, he's reading from a card.
It's like you had three months to prepare
for this particular thing.
All ex-players.
And the crow.
All ex-players. I still remember.
I could give that speech right now.
Yeah, I think I could too.
If I had to, and it wasn't my speech.
But all ex-players, yeah, we all.
I think the conversation the next day was like,
you saw him reading that card in a team meeting.
It's like, oh, yeah, that would be tough, you know,
because do you mean it or are you just,
is this a script you're reading?
Yeah, who gave you that?
Or is it your actual, and it's like,
well, maybe he's not a great speaker.
Well, he's a head coach in the NFL.
So you got to be a good speaker.
I'll tell you what, Salah needs him to win
this year. For sure. And he needs a guy
that he's going to fine for missing
two practices out of all of the offseason
stuff to play very good.
Or it's over. And maybe he wants
it to be. Yeah, true.
We have no idea. Good luck
over there, Jets. Good luck. PR guy's really good, too. So, you. We have no idea. Good luck over there, Jets.
PR guy's really good, too.
I'm happy to see.
Classic Jets. This is just what they do every year without a doubt.
It never matters how good things are going.
This always happens. We'll have
AJ Hawk, obviously, in the next hour.
He'll be missing tomorrow, though.
He's got a golf tournament thing he's got to play.
With Aaron? Pete Thamel will be joining us at 1.30 Eastern time. I don golf tournament thing he's got to play with aaron uh
pete fama will be joining us at 1 30 eastern time i don't know if he'll be golfing with aaron and
then we have javel mcgee for the first time on the program 16 years in the nba currently playing for
the sacramento kings doing a fantastic thing with this jug life foundation where he has built he's
already built a well i think in ug Uganda. Like five of them. Yeah.
It has a couple of school.
Like he is really trying to create opportunities for clean and fresh water to the 800 million
plus people on planet earth that do not have access to clean water, which is crazy to think
about.
Oh, is, is Flint been figured out?
Good question.
Honestly, I was wondering that myself.
He, I believe Javel is from Flint.
Yeah, he is.
Okay. So I assume that is from Florida. Yeah, he is.
Okay, so I assume that is even more of a... Close to home.
That was crazy to learn about over the last few years.
And no one talks about it still,
so it wouldn't surprise me if it's still bad up there.
And I would assume that that is a big piece of this entire puzzle.
We will talk to him in about 15 minutes or so.
Can't wait to get his takes on...
Is Luka at liability?
Hmm.
Would you guys just attack Luka if
you had to? We shall see. We'll be back
next hour with some more stupidity,
but boy, a lot of journalism as well.
Forget about that. May 24th,
JJ Reddick to the Lakers. This program.
Sports!
Are wonderful, and obviously
we have the NHL in their finals and the NBA in their finals, and we got Sports! ride alongside all the headlines and news. The Talks at Table is here at Boston Corner and at Ty Schmidt.
Ty, how does it feel to be sitting next to a guy who's already got a chance to celebrate a championship before the season is even over?
I know.
It's crazy.
I almost feel like I'm a champion as well because I get to bask in his glory.
I mean, no NBA team, as far as I know, has...
Don't even think about it.
Can I touch it?
No, not until it's over.
Not until it's over.
Well, that's what I was going to say.
It is over.
As far as I know, no NBA team has ever won a championship after just three games,
but here we are.
Celtics have done it.
Way to go.
Congrats to you, Connor.
You guys are the worst, man.
Celtics in three.
Celtics in three.
Celtics in three.
You sons of bitches.
I mean, if it wasn't for the fact that I am a fan of a team who has come back
from a 3-0 deficit, then maybe, yeah, the Red Sox against, unfortunately,
Tiger Smith's Yankees.
A-Rock caught some heat last night in New England.
Yes, he did.
Bill Burr still got his fastball, I'll tell you that much.
Yeah, but the Celtics, Celtics in three in the final somehow.
That's phenomenal.
One half of the hammer. Dodd.
Cowboys telling Diggs, your hammer.
Dodd.
It's a sports gambling show that broadcasts live from the Thunderdome
every single day we are live here.
Celtics getting points yet again.
Game four.
How do we feel about it?
Yeah, make sure you go to the right book.
ESPN Bet has them as dogs.
Some books have them as one-point favorites.
So, you know.
What? Oh, no, no, no. That's favorites. So, you know. What?
Oh, no, no, no.
That's great.
I did not know that was the case.
I looked around this morning.
ESPN Bet does have them as plus one and a half.
Some books have them as minus one, though, which is, you know, they probably.
That's comedy.
That's hilarious.
They probably should be favorites in our, I mean, 3-0.
I mean, they were up by 20.
They've won 12 straight.
They were up by 20 last night.
Sorry, 11 straight they have won.
We did it – well, we did it last night.
Yeah, I'm taking the Celtics as a dog.
Yeah.
Please, keep it coming.
Yeah, we've got to take advantage of that.
I assume that's going to turn, especially as the Porzingis news
potentially comes out.
But Celtics is dogs yet again.
And, you know, maybe the Mavs come out and win game four.
I mean, that's very easy.
But if you see the Celtics getting points right now,
this is one of those UConn Husky situations.
They have won 11 straight playoff games.
Sweep, sweep, potential sweep to wrap this entire thing up.
This would be a March Madness, exactly what UConn does.
This is what Boston is currently doing in the NBA Finals,
finding them with points at this sports book.
Now, there's a lot of questions about what's going on.
Absolutely.
And if everybody – A bunch of them.
Hey, we thank you.
Makes sense, though.
Get people to your sports book.
Yeah.
That's right.
Get them there.
That's good odds.
Get them in the door.
Thank you for doing that.
Yeah.
That might be what they're doing. Could be okay. It's my move
Joining us now live from an attic in Ohio is a man who's a college football national champion a Super Bowl champion
A Ryder Cup winner and a current. Nope. Sorry former president of the state of Ohio. Ladies and gentlemen, AJ Hawk
No haircut this week we've been noticing
Yeah, maybe maybe tonight but yeah, congrats con man. We've been noticing. Just wanted to let you know that. Not yet. Yeah, maybe tonight.
But, yeah, congrats, Con, man.
Awesome.
Another championship under your belt, man.
That's a great accomplishment.
Shut up.
I don't want it from you, prick.
Okay, shut it.
You got to feel great about it.
I'm from the town where they win a ship.
Why are you scared?
Don't be scared of it.
In only three games, fella.
They won three.
They won the finals in three games.
That's crazy.
And Porzingis doesn't, like, they don't, Porzingis is an amazing player,
but they obviously do not need him to win the championship.
Yeah, they had an 80-plus percent win rate without Porzingis,
like a 77% win rate with Porzingis.
So the storyline yesterday was if Porzingis plays, they beat the Mavericks.
If Porzingis doesn't play
they lose and the sportsbooks thought that Porzingis wasn't going to be able to play
because he had that injury that nobody can pronounce right even the insiders trying to
read it off of their phone and instead they're up 21 in the fourth quarter and it's Boston Celtics
basketball boom now they almost give that thing up 22 to 2 run for the Mavericks at home it was
fun to watch it was you know kept me awake yeah exactly we get me awake through the entire game great game great
electric didn't have to watch any of it in the morning when I woke up that's how you know it
was an incredible game but what we're watching here is a dominant team AJ this this team is just
dominant and I know the east was kind of taking it on the shins all year whenever we would catch
up with Shams all season long.
Correct.
And chit-chat with him and kind of get an update.
We'd actually say, Shams, what do we need to know?
Who's going to win?
What do we need to know?
And it was always like, well, the East is so weak, the Celtics are going to go to the finals.
The West is a juggernaut, though.
They have all the talent.
They have all the storylines.
They have all the good teams.
They have the reigning champions over there who, once again, are built to go on a run. Celtics, though, are they going to be able to be enough
for whoever's on the West? And it's like, well, maybe the East looks so bad because this team's
on the East. Maybe that's why they look bad. And will that be the conversation after they win this
or since they already won that? Is that how people will talk about this Celtics team? I don't think
so. The conversation will remain, who is somebody other than the Celtics that'll be able to win
next year? And that's why these
mass holes and these Celtics fans are going to
be so obnoxiously
loud after this thing actually
ends, whether it's next game, game
five, game six, or game seven,
AJ. Yeah, do you think
I know Conman said earlier because
he's nervous that they might let this thing slip.
Do you, Boston fans, want them to lose one maybe so we can win the championship in Boston?
I feel like you've got to feel pretty comfortable if you're a Boston fan.
Like, hey, come on, boys.
Let's let them have one.
Let the TV get some ratings.
Let's win this thing at home so we can all celebrate together.
Yeah, let's do that.
No, absolutely not.
No, you win the championship.
We are so damn close, and you assholes are doing this.
And I get it. Sure, whatever. We're having fun.
What did Lambo just say?
Yeah.
I get it. Okay. I do. Truly.
But at the end of the day, that doesn't matter.
Just win the damn championship.
You know what also is cool?
Winning at home is sweet.
You know what's sweet?
When the team wins on the road, and then they fly home,
and then there's a million people waiting for them at the airport
because that's exactly what would happen.
And, you know, we talked about how Gillette was packed.
TD Bank North Garden was also packed last night
with a nice little live watch along completely sold out to the brim.
Boston is a sports town.
I don't think anybody can say anything differently, and they've won a lot.
So a lot of things to celebrate for.
So we're all incredibly bummed out that the Boston Celtics are maybe going to go on like a six-year run.
Chance.
Joining us now is a three-time NBA champion, a 16-year NBA vet currently on the Sacramento Kings,
and one of the founders of Jug Life, trying to get fresh water and clean water to the 800 million plus people that don't have access to it currently.
Good human, great basketball player.
Ladies and gentlemen, JaVale McGee. Yeah, JaVale McGee how are you doing how you doing okay hey three-time champion
and obviously our friend here Boston Connor is a massive Celtics fan and we're trying to jinx them
right now very loudly saying they've already won the title you've already won the championship
no team has ever come back from being down 3-0 or whatever the case is
in the playoffs since the NBA has been
regulated. Whatever the case. You get it.
Is this thing over? And why is this thing
over? This Celtics team is just the most dominant
team in the NBA right now. And
why is that the case?
I mean, truthfully, they've been
rolling through the league all year.
So it's not really a surprise that they
did that. and i saw that
uh joel and b tweeted something saying that um milwaukee gave them the the uh the championship
and i don't i'm not gonna lie drew has really done something to this team on the defensive end
and you can see it the way that they're playing defense it's it's it's not it's not on both sides
dallas isn't playing the same type of defense that Boston is.
Everything that Joe Mazzola, did the Bucs
give them the championship with Drew Holiday in the trade?
They lose Marcus Smart. You bring in Drew Holiday.
He's been locked down and knocking
down shots. Drew has been
a perfect fit for
the Celtics. Everything that Joe Mazzola says
whenever he gives a speech
and we hear him mic'd up, it all ends with
it all goes through our defense.
It all goes through our defense.
Is that how everybody views it?
Is that different for how the Boston Celtics are?
And is that normal in the NBA?
I mean, if you have a dominant offensive team and then they can actually pick it up on defense,
usually those teams are the teams that are most dominant in the game.
When we won the championship in 2020 2020 before we went to the bubble uh me and avery bradley avery bradley was a point
guard i was the center he made it so easy for me because he would get over every screen he would
never get screened and watching these games uh drew is barely getting screened he's fighting
over every screen and when you have a guard that's fighting over every screen, everybody else can get back to their man.
And now it's just like no mismatches.
And you know the way Dallas play, they continuously try to find mismatches.
And if that person on the ball is never getting screened,
it's hard to play like that.
Go ahead, AJ.
Now, I know Jason Kidd, I believe, said, you know,
that Luka has a target on his back or whatever now,
and maybe he has for a while.
What do you think they're doing? Like Boston, when they see Luka, you know, his back or whatever now, and maybe he has for a while. What do you think they're doing?
Like Boston, when they see Luka maybe up top guarding somebody,
are they trying to take advantage of this guy
and trying to expose him on the defensive end a little bit?
That's the story of the day, JaVale, is that Luka's a liability.
That's what all the talking heads are saying today about basketball
and about the NBA Finals.
On the defensive side, Luka's man-on-man defense isn't that great.
But I think Luka can get past that if he decides to, when he does get beat,
to continue to hustle and get to the weak side or get to the health side
or wherever the man is helping from to go and cover his man.
I think the thing about Luka is he's exerting so much energy and has the ball the
whole game on offense. I don't know what type of shape he's in to be able to do everything he go
and give you 36 on offense and also play defense the right way. That's a hard combination to do.
Yeah, is it a be who you can afford to be type thing in the NBA? Like you understand that some
of your star offensive guys might give up a
couple on the defensive side to not only conserve energy,
but to last through an entire seven game series.
How are the Mavericks feeling about Luca in this particular series in the
locker room?
You think about it all because the videos are everywhere in modern world.
Everybody sees everything about Luca pointing somewhere else.
And then his guy knocking down a shot or doing this and knocking down a shot.
And then him complaining to the ref seemingly about every single thing he does on the court.
How do you think the rest of the team feels about it?
And how does the league feel about Luka?
I mean, everybody in the league knows Luka isn't the best defensive player.
But at the same time, no one cares about lucas defense because
he'll go and give you 50 so they're just like we'll live with it it doesn't matter and that's
how the mads feel also but it's this is the only i feel like this is the only series where it really
shows up because boston everybody's playing defense so it's like is it going to be five on
five or is it going to be five on four when when dallas is on defense and that's that's a problem
luke is going to have to figure out he's either going to have to on four when Dallas is on defense. And that's a problem Luka's going to have to figure out.
He's either going to have to really lock up on defense man to man,
or he's going to have to figure out how,
if he knows he's going to get blown by,
how to think and get to where he needs to be when he gets blown by.
And Dallas is going to figure out how to help him in the most manageable way.
We're talking a 16-year NBA vet, three-time champion, JaVale McGee.
When you talk, and I mentioned it there at the end because as a spectator,
and I'm not, you know, I'm not an insider in the basketball world.
I got a jumper.
I can shoot.
I can shoot.
I can put the ball in the hole if I need to.
You know, I'm not going to be able to run.
I'm not giving you meaningful minutes.
Defense, I'm not smacking the floor.
But if you get me in my spot and somebody's able to get me the ball i'm probably in the pocket yeah i'm probably
gonna knock it down uh probably gonna knock it down and i'm gonna celebrate too as if i did a
lot more sure than i actually do but like watching luca with the refs and believe me we are maybe
the biggest hey refs you need need to be better at your job show
in the history of sports media.
Like, I think we actually are in the NFL and even the NBA,
we got some tweets from the official NBA's Twitter account.
So, like, we are very much understanding.
Luka seemingly complains about everything that happens on the court to the refs.
Is he known to do that?
Is he a guy that you guys can kind of
you know if we get him a little bit pissed off maybe he'll run himself out of a game like he
fouled out last night with like five minutes left four minutes left or whatever obviously they're
a much different team when he's gone but his relationship with the refs is that noted is this
just a rare occasion of him complaining about everything and how many guys are like this in
the league javel i feel like i feel like everybody's like this in the league.
It's just that you guys don't
portray these bad
sides of people until they lose.
If Luka would have won that
game and had
35-40, we wouldn't
be talking about him complaining to the refs.
We'd be like, Luka's the greatest ever and he's
going to bring the team back. His defense is
awesome.
Exactly.
He was really locking down on defense.
You would have thought none of those blow-bys at all if they would have been winning these games.
So, I mean, it's sort of a media thing.
And at the same time, everybody complains to the ref if they feel a certain type of way.
And definitely the Stars complain to the ref. Those are the main people who complain to the ref because those are the only people that the ref listens to.
They don't listen to the bench players.
They don't care if you're complaining to them.
Hey, you. I don't know your name,
so shut the fuck up.
Okay, yeah.
Luca, we move jerseys. Okay, you're
selling tickets. We get it. Kyrie.
Yeah, yeah. And it does feel
like the NBA, the refs
have a little bit more, you know, feel.
Like they're deciding. Just watch the next game and look who the refs have a little bit more, you know, feel. Like they're deciding.
Just watch the next game and look who the refs are actually talking to,
having conversations with.
And then look who the refs are walking away from.
Yeah, I'm going to.
That is what I'm going to watch.
But there is one team that doesn't seemingly chat with the refs at all.
And they have the youngest head coach to make the finals since like 1966.
Go ahead, Connor.
Yeah, JaVale, what do you think about Joe Mizzoula because obviously there was early on in his career that he
was kind of handed this team and that it wasn't as much him being a great coach it was more so
about the team having great players and now it's kind of changed with you know his strategy and
things of that nature that he is one of those top coaches in the nba what are your thoughts around
him and what do you think about just the culture?
Because as Pat mentioned, it feels like the Celtics,
although there are times where you get hands thrown in the air if they don't get a call,
but it feels as though they're very easily moving on to the next play.
Is that credit to Joe Mazzulla, or is that just the culture?
I don't know Joe's full story, but I do know that – well, I don't know it,
but just looking from the outside in, Joe seems like a savant when it comes to this coaching stuff.
He seems like he does stuff differently, but he's very specific on things.
So I would assume that during the start of these playoffs, he told,
and he's continuing to harp on this, leave the refs alone.
We're good enough where we don't need to talk to the refs. We're going to beat these teams, but if you mess with the refs alone we're good enough where we don't need to talk to the refs
we're going to beat these teams
but if you mess with the refs
the refs might start
messing with what we have going on
so just leave the refs alone
and I've been on teams where coaches are like
leave the refs alone, do not talk to them
because it's not going to help us
so with them being that great
I feel like Joe is in the locker room every day
before the games
and last but not least before they bring it up leave the refs alone because we don't need them With them being that great, I feel like Joe is in the locker room every day before the games.
And last but not least, before they bring it up, leave the refs alone because we don't need them.
We're good.
We're going to win this game.
But if we start messing with the refs and complaining,
they might try to turn this game around.
Yeah.
You know, brothers in Foster are waiting out there.
Yeah.
Go ahead.
How dare you.
Say something.
Say something.
Do it.
Yeah.
We got two shots coming right around the corner.
I got it right in the holster.
I watched him with the Pacers.
You know, that was my first time really getting a chance to watch the interaction
and, like, look for it.
Pacers were up a bunch.
I forget who we were playing.
Knicks.
Yeah, it was Knicks.
Pacers were up, like, 20-something in, like, the second or third quarter,
and I started seeing a lot of calls start going against the Pacers.
And then all of a sudden, you know, Mr. Brothers is down in front of me,
and I'm like, hey, we're allowed to win by 40, Tony.
We're allowed.
You know, you don't have to start just giving him bullshit.
He turns to me, and then he talks shit to me.
He does a little fake punt thing and then shoes me off.
And I'm like, this guy's a dog.
This guy is an absolute dog.
I enjoy that they're humans.
Tony Brothers is different. Tony Brothers is different.
Tony Brothers is different.
Yeah, well, there's been a lot of stories I've heard since.
Jeff Teague, yeah.
Jeff Teague has told us about Tony Brothers.
Yeah, there's great stories out of the NBA.
Hey, I don't know what you're going to do in post-life,
and Ty's about to ask that,
but the stories that come out of the NBA
and this podcast generation are gold.
Absolute gold.
Which leads to Ty Schmidt's question. Yeah, JaVale, I saw
that you produced a song
on, I think it was Justin Bieber's
fifth studio album,
which is, that's awesome.
That's really sweet. Is that
something that you're going to go into full
time when you're done playing, or is that hard
right now because, obviously, you're
going to be able to catch oops and just eat
glass for probably the next ten years, so you can keep playing if you want and the kings are kind of a young
exciting team on the up and up right now um is that something you've thought about that like hey
you know i've already got one song on one of the biggest stars in the world's album like
i i might want to maybe you know move into that full time sooner than later right right right
um i mean i've
definitely always been into production uh yeah and that album was grammy nominated also so i'm
technically a grammy nominated producer so uh but yeah i've always had a passion for music i've been
doing it uh just i've been doing it during my basketball career for my whole basketball career
and uh
after i definitely plan on locking in a little bit more and also on uh the production of movie
side so yeah what are we doing we're making beats we're making we produce and it's the
difference between making beats and producing yeah enlighten me enlighten me enlighten me
make a beat making beats is usually make a beat and you send it off producing is actually being
in the studio with writers and artists
and having to figure out how to place this song
and what words are going to make sense and actually creating the song.
So I'm a producer, technically a beatmaker,
but I don't like that term, a beatmaker.
I don't like that.
Well, get some drums, JaVale.
Metro took some shots.
Yes, he did.
Metro took some shots.
Yes, he did.
Okay, so you're DJ Khaled in there.
I guess you could say that, yeah.
That energy, yeah.
I like that.
That's awesome.
Let's go.
What a career.
What an absolute career.
Yeah, are we screaming anything before, like, McGee on the beat?
Like, is there any of that?
It's Pierre music.
That's what you hear in the beginning.
But not on the Justin Bieber.
I didn't have my tag on that one.
But most of my songs have Pierre music in the front of them.
All right, how's it sound like?
You know, because the Maybach music is that lady.
It sounds sort of like that.
It's a girl saying it.
It's a girl saying it it's a girl saying it oh
you don't want to do it that's smart no I'm definitely not gonna it's hard for
me to even do it I can't even do it I don't know this this testosterone in me
I don't know not extra either NBA 16 years in the NBA we don't need any
questions to be asked or anything like that and I do appreciate you just said
I'm not your puppet okay you go listen going to say it. Okay, you can go listen to that
if you need to. 16
years in the NBA, obviously accomplished a lot of things.
Now, on a different team, just talked about that.
Go ahead, Tone. Yeah, DeVille, Ty just mentioned
how the Kings are a great up-and-coming team
and then obviously you've been on some of the greatest
NBA teams of all time in those
warrior years that were unbelievable.
What is the difference between when you're going
into those warrior years and you know that
it's a title or bust
and the stress that comes with that versus
say the Kings team this year where you guys
know that you have talent, you're up and coming,
and just kind of the vibes dealing with that?
Personally,
I feel like this year
on SAC, we just had a problem
with playing down to our competition.
You were saying
what's the difference between the times i was on the warriors and everything when we when i was on
the warriors when we played bad teams you could tell that those things were bad um for some reason
when we played bad teams uh we had a lot of close games against detroit and san antonio and teams
that were literally bad all year um but we just had a bad habit of playing down to our competition.
But at the same time, we would play up to our competition, too,
when we played great teams.
So it's that balance, and that's definitely the difference
between championship teams.
They take care of business early when it comes to bad teams
to where those third and fourth string guys are playing that whole fourth quarter.
Okay, and obviously we're playing forever.
Okay, we know that. and obviously we're playing forever okay we know that we know we're playing forever how is the body in life now verse like 10 years ago shall we say and do you feel the difference um i feel the difference a
little bit but it's more of just keeping weight down if anything when i was younger it was gaining
weight and older is just losing weight if anything like okay we need to get back into shape for this
season we need to lose a smooth 10 pounds nothing too crazy uh and just knowing my body more i
didn't really know my body when i was younger i was just out there just running around no
stretching or anything but now you know the what it takes to to to get your body right to get your
body warm and to go out there and dunk on people, essentially.
Yeah, well, I love that.
I've never figured out what I need to do to get to a point
where I'm just dunking on people all the time.
But I used to not warm up at all either when I was kicking balls.
I just tore my hip flexor.
So when you retire, yeah, when you retire,
make sure you stick with some sort of plan,
because I just decided to do nothing.
And it turns out, really fucks the body up.
I got bleeding all over my
leg right now. I got pooling of
blood all over my leg right now
because of a torn hip flexor. I'm 37.
I feel like I'm 90. I'm an old
man. Don't ever have... You're 37.
Thank you.
Do you know how old I am?
16 years. Okay.
Drafted out of Nevada, I believe.
So you went to college.
How many years did he go to college for?
I think one year younger than you.
I think three years.
Maybe he's 37.
You're either my age or one year younger in my head.
36.
Boom.
When's birthday?
January.
Oh, we missed it.
Happy birthday, man.
Happy birthday, JaVale.
Happy birthday.
I appreciate it.
Yeah, sorry we missed that.
There's one coming up, too. Save that one for that one as well. Connor birthday, JaVale. Happy birthday. I appreciate it. Yeah, sorry we missed that. There's one coming up, too.
Save that one for that one as well.
Connor has another question for you.
Yeah, JaVale, obviously you won an Olympic gold medal in 2020 in Tokyo,
and now the Olympics are coming up here in Paris.
What goes into selecting the men's team,
and is it different this year than previous years
because some of the guys that haven't played in the past are playing this year?
And is it always expected when you are on Team USA,
especially in men's basketball, like, hey, we got to beat every team by 30
or else everyone's going to make fun of us?
Thanks to the Dream Team, from there on out,
it's assumed that USA is going to win.
And if there's anything less, if there's even one loss,
even though it's like pool play and you can lose can lose like once or twice even if it's one loss
it's like well there it is we're never winning again it's crazy this is the most the worst team
ever in history so it's just a very high expectation for the USA and mainly because
most USA basketball players are in the NBA which is the best league in the world. I feel like it makes sense
why that's the way.
Hey, big weekend for you.
You better win.
Yeah, I better win. We will.
We just beat Pakistan and cricket,
so we better win all those games, too.
Did we really beat Pakistan and cricket?
That is crazy.
We lost India, though.
India is the USA of cricket.
Yeah.
That's a great way to describe it.
That's a great way to describe it.
They got hot bats.
Oh, yeah.
Great bowlers.
Speaking of hot bats, we got a Water for Life celebrity softball game coming up this weekend
to raise money for your Jug Life Foundation.
And this is phenomenal.
I think we looked this up early.
You're from flint michigan
is that accurate absolutely okay so was that a massive piece of this entire thing because i think
we just learned a few years back that there was uh no clean water for like a very long time i don't
even know if it's been fixed yet was that a big piece of why you've dove into this and you're
making real change bro absolutely the funny part is i did it the year
before that news came out so i didn't even know that was a thing i wasn't living in flint at the
time when it happened so the year before i started the foundation and then the year after that news
came out so it was sort of a coincidence and then it was a super coincidence that i was actually
from that city um but my foundation we we built water wells in Uganda, Jug Life Foundation,
we built water wells in Uganda, and we also go around the country and teach kids about
the importance of living a healthy and active lifestyle and drinking water, of course. So
it's such a passion of mine. And then that happening in Flint definitely put some fuel
under me to where I was like okay we really
got to go full force with this people can support by heading to the sutter health park which is uh
400 ballpark drive in west sacramento okay on saturday first pitch is at 4 p.m it's where the
new is where the athletics are playing oh okay that that has been handled really well. Oh, yeah.
That whole thing has been handled really, really well.
We're happy they found a home.
Are you hitting dingers in this thing?
I just saw Travis Kelsey win a – I'm straight homers.
I'm over the green wall every time.
Oh, yeah?
Okay, so how many players will be on each team?
Who's coaching the teams?
And what should we expect?
Are any videos going to be hitting the internet from this Celebrity Softball Tournament?
Game, sorry.
Absolutely, absolutely.
Videos everywhere.
Me and Matt Barnes are team captains, and it's all our celebrity friends on our team.
It's going to be the same, what is it, nine players on every team in the outfield?
So, yeah, that's what it's going to be, and it's going to be a great time.
Doors open at 3, first pitch is at 4.30.
We're going to have a home run derby.
We're going to have some participation from the crowd.
It's going to be pretty fun.
Matt Barnes is in a weight room.
He just posted something on his Instagram where he is moving some weight right now.
And they're talking about him being, like, shoot good football player coming out of high school.
I don't doubt it.
Like, everybody was talking about who could make it.
Oh, yeah, here's a question.
You can play in the NFL?
Is that what you all just feel that way?
You all just feel you play in the NFL or you're NBA guys?
I don't think I can play in the NFL.
They'll break my legs in half.
I actually played football my sophomore year in high school,
and I couldn't figure out how to tackle.
So that was it after that.
How tall were you then?
Yeah, I mean, what did you?
I was 6'6", 6'7", on JV football.
And once you get that, once that little drill where it's guys on the left,
guys on the right, and you got to tackle a person through the pocket,
I never could figure that out.
So, yeah.
So whenever I got in the game, and I played wide receiver,
so whenever I got in the game, they made sure
they ran run plays. Oh, that's unfair.
They should have been throwing that thing up to you. Them having
a 6'7 guy trying to figure out leverage to get a
tackle. Pretty rude. Interesting. Pretty rude
should have done that, but throwing it up to you should have been a play.
Not JV, but on varsity. But Matt
Barnes, I guess, and I don't know how
openly he spoke about it. I think everybody else spoke about him.
I guess he was a real deal football player, and he is very jacked.
He's hitting them out of that place on Saturday at that softball game.
He's going to hit dingers this weekend as well.
I hope you raise a bunch of money.
Keep making the world better, and thank you for taking time.
You're awesome.
I appreciate it.
Pierre Music.
Yeah.
There it is. There it is. I'm going to use that. I'm going to cut that. Somebody cut that. Hold on. Pierre Music. Yeah. We need to... There it is.
There it is.
I'm going to use that.
I'm going to cut that.
Somebody cut that.
Oh, hold on.
Hold on.
No, no.
Should I say you're listening to Pierre Music?
Is your name Pierre?
I don't think I fully understand the title, Pierre Music.
Pierre Music is...
Pierre is an alter ego that I created a long time ago.
And the reason I created it is I was at a dinner at a restaurant called Crestations in L.A. one time.
And I was at the bar with one of my good friends.
And there was a girl sitting next to us.
And she asked me what my name was.
And I just said JaVale.
And then I just didn't think about it.
And I'm tall, so I can see a lot of things.
So I look over, and about 15 minutes later,'m tall, so I can see a lot of things.
So I look over, and about 15 minutes later, she's Googling my name to see who I am.
So from there on out, I decided that whoever asks me what my name is and doesn't just know me as JaVale, the basketball player,
I'll just tell them my name is Pierre because I don't like the aspect of,
oh, let me treat this person different now because he plays in the NBA,
or let me set this person up because he plays in the NBA. Or let me set this person up because he plays in the NBA.
So I'd rather just, hey, yeah, my name's Pierre.
Yeah, you're a French artist.
Isn't it funny, too, with professional athletes that underneath the Google of your name, too, exact worth.
This is how much money.
Immediately.
It's immediately.
It tells the people immediately.
Net worth.
I'm just like, damn.
Let's get punched by this guy.
Yeah, there's a guy in his...
I believe it was you, right, JaVale?
It was either a baseball or a soccer game,
and there was a guy standing right below him on the box
just filming him trying to piss him off.
That was you?
Yeah, that was me.
That was me.
It was one of those, I don't know, internet guys that try to,
I don't know, get a rise out of somebody.
How'd you respond?
You talk shit back?
I don't remember.
I didn't technically talk shit.
What I did was I just went on my live because I felt like I wanted to get it online before he got it online.
Smart.
So I was just like, yeah, some guy right here trying to give me a rise, but I'm not really with that.
I understand what he's doing.
I don't get what he's trying to do.
I was filming him.
In hindsight, I should have just ignored it
because I don't think anybody would have really cared.
Yeah, but they would have cared if you
would have smacked the camera out of it.
Absolutely, they would have.
I think you handled it right. If you would have dropped
the Jemma Pell Pierre in the middle of that thing,
that would have really went.
Before we get out of here, you're listening to Pierre Music.
There it is.
There it is.
Boom.
Ladies and gentlemen, JaVale McGee.
Thank you, buddy.
Yeah, JaVale.
All right.
I hope they put a little reverb on that.
Yeah, uh-huh.
You know, dance, sauce it up a little bit.
Uh-huh.
Yep.
Yes.
And then get that beat on, you know, another Grammy nominated album.
Yeah, on a big album.
That would be great.
I'm not just a beatmaker.
I'm also, you know.
I don't like that title.
Once we take the beat out of the oven, there is still more to be done.
I'm not just passing off the beat.
I enjoyed the hell out of him.
He's doing really good work.
Jug Life began in 2015.
Uganda, they put five wells in, think they're really yeah doing they're really
doing chris long also yeah water boys water boys he's also doing that it feels like athletes
obviously because the amount of times we are told to drink water and stay hydrated and our urine is
actually judged by people on whether or not we're hydrated enough to be a good enough athlete feels
like a lot of people get behind that.
You are a machine when it comes to the water,
but you don't ever hold those big asshole jugs, which I appreciate, AJ.
I do appreciate that.
I have a hard time carrying 275-ounce jugs.
They're too cumbersome.
I can find new devices and carry small water bottles or whatever I need.
I do appreciate that they exist, though, to make people's lives easier.
In theory, it should make your life easier.
All you've got to do is drink this obnoxiously sized water
bottle. Brady was proving
those. He had the 800.
Don't you have it there? We did.
It's hard to keep track.
They sell them here,
obviously. It's hard to keep track of how much water.
I think it's good for water. I think it's good for
people.
Aiden Hutchinson, he's still carrying a gallon jug in every game and a lot of power lifters and bodybuilders and they do it obviously because they have to remain high
super duper hydra i get it okay there's but i see some garbage bag of a dude walking down the street
holding a thing i get you just listen to a podcast or saw an instagram post but telling you this what you're supposed to do yeah but you are
long way away from getting to the point where your body might shut down because you don't have enough
water i think what you need to work on is a little discipline sure i'm not talking about discipline
of filling up the asshole size jug i'm talking about discipline and eating working out you know
really doing unless it's a good uh sweet tea well bururt Kreischer, didn't he have Kool-Aid
in his? Yes. He had 270 ounces
of Kool-Aid
Probably so good
How is Burt? He's doing his
comedy, his appearance
at Radio Row when he just
kind of bombarded the stage while he was drunk and started doing
push-ups with C.J. Stroud
That still gets referenced by a lot of people
So Burt, you've done good.
In a good way?
What?
40 push-ups, right?
In a good way, yeah. The muscle hands.
It's brought up. It's good. That means it's good.
Because there's a lot of things that have happened
on this particular program.
All publicity is good publicity.
Not all.
Not all time. I'm going to tell you that.
I'm going to let you know
We've tested that theory
It's not an accurate assessment
Of how it all goes
U.S. Men's National Team soccer tied Brazil last night
Let's go
Pulisic is the hero
Pulisic scored a goal
He also had a wide open one get robbed by a goalie
That stood on his head
Our goalie also stood on head
It was actually a very good game down in Orlando.
1-1 tie, good bounce back after getting their asses beat by Columbia.
5-1 before the Copa America tournament starts.
Gumpy, this Copa America is our first time in this.
What happened to Concava?
Are we still in the Concava or no?
Still in the Concava.
This is just this year.
First time U.S. is in it.
They're in a group with Uruguay,
but they should be able to get out of the group.
I think they'll make a run at it.
I think semifinals, maybe. I saw Jeff Cameron
talking to Christian Polithic.
Captain America's
chatting with each other. Obviously, good news
for the future. Christian Polithic getting a goal
on a set piece is wonderful.
Maybe this team is able to
go on a run and maybe
bring it home. Come on, boys. They better. Not the semis. I don't know what Gumby's saying. Hey, we might is able to go on a run and maybe bring it home.
Come on, boys.
They better.
Not the semis.
I don't know what Gumby's saying.
Hey, we might be able to get the semis.
We're winning this damn game.
I mean, time Brazil is pretty impressive.
So Brazil and Argentina are the favorites to win it.
So I think the Uruguay game in the group will be very interesting.
It's coming.
It's coming.
Football's coming. It's coming Home Football's coming Home
It's America
For the first time ever
We're going to win the World Cup
The Copa thing
And the Concava
England's got Euros
US Open
The Europe's
I don't know if England's going to win
Yeah yeah
I do know Scotland's
Battling Germany tomorrow night
That's right
In Scotland
9pm Eastern
Friday night Smackdown
In Scotland
Did I say Eastern? I meant locals open is off and running right now we can't we can't show any footage from the united states
game last night on this particular show and we can't show any footage from the usga's u.s open
there was somebody who's already hit two eagles there's been people that have had quadruple bogeys
it is all over the board i think at one point there were 78 golfers on the course.
Only 13 of them were under par or whatever.
So I think the course is holding up.
What does the leaderboard look like right now?
Yeah, last time I checked, it was 78 and 15 were under par.
The leaderboard, Patrick Cantlay is in the clubhouse at five under.
He is your leader right now.
Wow.
Followed by Ludwig Oberg, who came in second at the Masters.
He is the young golfer came in second at the Masters.
He is the young golfer who was incredible at the Masters.
Followed by Matthew Pavone, I believe was the guy from France who hit the – Yeah, Matthew Pavone.
Of course.
He hit the two Eagles.
And then Tony Finau is also in the top four.
Where he be now?
Tony Finau.
Where he be now? He's at the U.S. Open at Pinehurst number two the top four. Where he be now? Tony Fee now. Where he be now?
He's at the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2.
But top four.
Yes, he is.
Okay, I got a chance to chit-chat with Tony Fee now a couple weeks ago
because he was golfing with Utah Jazz and Utah Hockey team owner
and Qualtrics founder Ryan Smith out in Utah.
And as soon as I seen him in the background of said FaceTime,
I'm like, Fina, Tony, Tony,
I'm a short swinger as well.
I need to, how do I,
I can't, I'm not flexible enough to get all the way back there.
What do I need to do? You need to activate your
hips earlier, right? Because your club
isn't going as far, so you need to activate
hips a little bit earlier so you can get that
lag, which is what everybody's looking for.
I'm like, Tony, thank you. I never felt lag in my
life. I haven't
swung a club and hit a ball with it yet.
You figured it out already.
In the house.
In the house. I got it.
Now the hip flexor being
tortuous is a little bit of an issue.
I don't know if I get the ball, but
Tony Finau, one golf
tip via FaceTime.
Feeling pretty good.
Feeling real good about it.
And you haven't taken a real swing yet, though, but it feels good?
Like, hey, your game, you know, it's rounding into form, as they say?
I'm in the living room, you know?
Yeah, of course.
Stay there.
You can feel it.
Oh, look at that.
You got those hips going early there.
Yeah.
I can see the legs.
The legs.
You see the legs are the ones driving the swing so
i hope tony fina wins that just strictly for what he did to me you're a field golfer and you could
feel it you could feel i could feel my arms get yanked by my hip holy shit i'm lagging and once
again got a torn hip flexor so i can't even activate hips as much as i will be able to
the first time this new swing sees the course for the first time. Look out 330, 350 easily.
Yeah, I think the most I'm worried about is just hitting the ball consistently.
Sure.
Just make it contact.
And straight.
Yeah, and putting it where I want it to go.
Which, once again, how could I ever do it when I didn't have –
because I'm here and my hip's still –
Still bad.
Trying to catch up.
I had no chance.
Tony Fino fixed that.
I hope he wins.
Good luck to Tony.
Scotty Sheffield's got a new haircut.
Yeah, he does.
A lot of things to keep your eye on. Pinehurst is playing difficult. And Tiger Woods started the day with a birdie. Then hope he wins. Good luck to Tony. Scotty Sheffler's got a new haircut. Yeah, he does. A lot of things to keep your eye on. Pinehurst is playing
difficult, and Tiger Woods started
the day with a birdie, then he went downhill, so
we'll see if he's able to get it back. The U.S. Open
should be electrifying for us all
weekend. There's also big news
happening in college football, more
specifically, West Virginia's conference,
the Big 12. There was a
report this morning that came out that the Big 12 is
exploring selling its naming right to a title sponsor with potential revenue being hundreds of millions
over the course of the deal joining us now to chit chat about this is the authority
on college football pete dammel
pete how you doing i'm good i feel like i'm out of center here let me get in the middle a little
bit you're the authority You'll figure it out.
We know that you'll be able to find center in this entire thing.
So, Pete Dammel, over the past, let's say, five years or so in college sports as a whole,
people have sold naming rights to things.
The Michigan State Spartans basketball team is actually not named the Michigan State Spartan basketball team.
basketball team is actually not named the Michigan State Spartan basketball team.
It's actually like the RocketMortgage.com Spartan basketball team of Michigan State.
The head coaching title for the University of Pittsburgh isn't just the football head coach,
what, Narduzzi. It is the Pittsburgh football head coach presented by Chris Bickle, class of 1993. 97.
Sorry about that.
Pat Narduzzi.
So this has become a trend.
Now the conference is thinking about doing that.
Is that accurate?
And when would this deal get done and how much would it be worth?
So the deal has been in discussions for about six months, Pat.
It would probably get done in the upcoming months.
There was some optimism it would be in July. As these, you know, big multimillion dollar deals go, it's probably going to drag on a little
bit longer than that. But essentially, the core of this is, and I agree with you, it's a little
bit of we've seen the slow NASCARization of college sports here, right, Pat? And, you know,
because there's a can of Coke on my desk, I'll just use that as a hypothetical example.
If Coke was the sponsor, and it is not going to be,
they would become the Coke 12.
If Kleenex was the sponsor, it would be the Kleenex 12.
I love it.
If Barnes & Noble was the sponsor, it would be, yeah,
Barnes & Noble, even though obviously there are not 12 teams.
So you went to Barnes & Noble 12 championship?
We were just balking to PLL for the cash-out championship.
They were ahead of the time oh my god so
it's not the big 12 presented by it would be the actual yeah yeah it would be in the name in the
logo so you'd be you know you'd be playing Kansas would be going for the big 12 champion or whatever
it is the coke coke 12 championship in Kansas City Bill Self's team in uh you know every every
so it's it's for a brand it's pretty massive, Pat, right?
Like you, I mean, there's no better brand exposure.
It's so much more than like putting your name on a stadium, right?
Or something like that.
And it would be the first of its kind.
I was told that it would mean trickle down to your West Virginia Mountaineers
would be multiple millions of dollars annually for them.
And look, the Big 12, much like the ACC, is significantly behind right now.
The Big 10 and the SEC with their giant TV deals have raced ahead.
And also they really leveraged a whole bunch of the college football playoff money as well.
And that's left these other leagues looking for creative solutions,
be it private equity, be it this naming deal.
But we really could look back
and look at this as a pretty significant thing in college sports. It would be a couple hundred
million dollars, you know, over a series of years chopped up in different ways. And yeah,
it would be, but ultimately, if you're going to have $20 million in rev share, which these Big
12 schools are going to attempt to do, I don't think all of them will be able to. You need new
streams of multiply millions of dollars
in revenue, and this would be one of them. I can't wait
to see them showcase their incredible marketing
abilities. Wait until you see
the shit we're selling. We're selling the
name of the entire league. What do you mean
you're selling the name of the entire league? Yeah, just the whole
name. You're just getting wiped out. The
Coke 12. That's
Mickey Mouse.
What if Disney buys it?
What if it is the Mickey Mouse 12?
I get on board with that.
What if a toilet company decides to do this?
What if Toto,
the toilet company,
Dude Wipes needs to buy the naming rights.
Dude Wipes 12.
West Virginia,
just like every year, you start at the bottom of the mountain.
You work your ass off to get to the top of the mountain so you can win.
The Dude Wipes 12 championship.
Which is an automatic entry into the 12-team college football playoff brought to you by.
Why not Dude Wipes as well?
Okay.
So now Dude Wipes is doing it all.
Obviously, we should have seen this coming.
But I think a lot of people thought it would maybe be presented by as opposed to just in place of, but money's money, I guess,
and everybody needs more of it. Go ahead, AJ. Pete, if this does happen and the Big 12 does
sell their naming rights, do you see a trickle-down effect? SEC ain't changing their name. No way.
How do they feel about it? Have you talked to anybody from the SEC or Big 10? How do they feel
about this? I have not yet today because it's just broke probably in the last 90 minutes, AJ.
It's a good question.
I don't feel like there's a pressure in those leagues that's as significant to do that.
Look, ultimately, when the next college football playoff contract kicks in,
so that would be after we have the 24 season come up, then it's a 25, and then we're expected to go to a 14-team playoff contract kicks in so that'd be after we have the 24 season come up then to 25 and then we're expected to go to a 14 team playoff
although that's not solidified it's widely expected to happen there's
essentially a 20 million dollar shift of money that's going to go to the the
power teams in the all the teams in the in the Big Ten in the SEC so they can
just sort of line that CFP money up. And this is, I'm oversimplifying
something very complicated, but they can, they have a way to just get that 20 million,
share it with the athletes and sort of keep business as usual as they've done it.
The ACC and Big 12 don't get nearly the same cut of that CFP revenue. Because of that,
there's going to be creative ways. And this ties back, AJ, to the reasons why we've seen the
Clemson lawsuit and the Florida State lawsuit to attempt to break their grant of rights and leave
the ACC. They feel like they'll be $20 million behind annually at least every year. So you're
stretching that out over 10 years, it's $200 million, and they don't feel like they have
enough revenue to compete. So they're trying a creative legal way to get out.
Could you imagine how ass you have to be a business to be that far behind with everything they don't feel like they have enough revenue to compete. So they're trying a creative legal way to get out.
Could you imagine how ass you have to be a business to be that far behind with everything that you have going on?
We'd be $200 million behind in 10 years.
You suck at business then.
You should not be in the position that you are in.
You have one of the most profitable pieces of content
at your disposal.
I don't want to get into it.
Mitt Winter from CBS, he reported today via tweet.
So Mitt Winter is a lawyer, I do believe.
Private equity is coming to college athletics.
As detailed in this article, the Big 12 is considering an equity investment of up to $1 billion for 20% of the conference.
So that means they would be valuing, obviously, the conference at $5 billion.
conference. So that means they would be valuing, obviously, the conference at $5 billion. Would this be the same reasoning why they would think about selling the title rights is so that they
could get $20 million to every single school to use for the payments. So they move on and then
they're just operating with an 80% profit as opposed to 100% per use? Yes. So, you know,
private equity is coming and it's coming fast to college sports.
And one is because college sports are generally viewed in the sports industry as an underachieving revenue source just in general. They don't feel like college rights in general are being maximized.
And a lot of that is because they're chopped up to all these different places.
You know, Fox has some, CBS has some, NBC has some of the Big Ten.
You know, the Mountain West is here and there.
has some, CBS has some, NBC has some of the Big Ten, you know, the Mountain West is here and there.
And so the general private equity notion, remember the Super League story I came out and talked about a couple months ago, Pat, was that if you consolidate everything, you can make more
money off it, which makes a lot of sense. So private equity has kind of been circling for
the past probably 18 months all around. And I would say, and CBS broke that story this morning, that the Big 12 has probably explored it the deepest. I think everybody has explored it,
everybody's talked about it. They've had these spring meetings. Private equity people have come
in and chatted with many. Private equity has gone to many individual schools. Drew Weatherford,
the former Florida State quarterback, is at the head of one of the firms who's starting to drive
this stuff.
And I really feel like for the Big 12, they're saying,
okay, if we're going to be this swath of money behind,
and look, they have an inferior product in terms of ratings to the Big Ten and the SEC.
It's pretty simple math that they're just not as many people are going to watch West Virginia play Kansas as they're going to watch LSU play Alabama, right?
are going to watch West Virginia play Kansas is you're going to watch LSU play Alabama, right?
So if they need to find revenue and do it, they're certainly taking a long look at private equity.
Brett Yormark, the commissioner, comes from the Barclays Center. He's been in the NBA. He's been an agent. He's sort of familiar with these New York City or worldwide VC firms and is taking a
long look as a way to give his schools more money
to to stay relevant stay vibrant to be able to compete in these times when the disparity projects
to grow only giving up 20 to make a billion quickly feels like it's a good move uh especially
with where we all assume where college football is headed yeah as everybody seemingly coming into a
i don't think I'd be –
I feel like that's an intelligent decision by the conference.
Selling the naming right to the entire league,
I think that's an interesting decision.
I think that's – you know, obviously we'll take money however we can get it.
Let's do that. Let's do that.
But a brand, you know, got to have a brand.
Got to have a brand.
Got to have a brand of some sort, you know.
The brand can be sponsored by something.
But when the sponsor becomes the brand, then what are we doing?
I don't know.
I'll be excited to see how it all shapes out in West Virginia's conference.
And you don't know.
West Virginia-Kansas this year is going to be must-watch.
Oh, yeah.
And I know LSU-Bama obviously is going to get eyeballs, as it should.
But what Kansas is doing, and then especially what Blaine Stewart,
Neil Brown, and West Virginia is doing with Victor Cab cabral as the defensive end coach best in the league can't spell victory without victor and
everybody's going to recognize that in this coke 12 coming up this year last question here from
our friend ty schmidt uh pete just curious uh is tony patiti and greg sankey and some of these
other commissioners are they looking at i don't even know who the current commissioner of the Big 12 is,
but are they kind of getting together and just basically saying like,
hey, this guy's a big dumb dipshit who doesn't know how to do business?
And are we looking at, you know, something like this happens,
is the Big 12 slowly kind of just going to die like some of these other,
like the Pac-12 has?
And could we see see i don't know
maybe the the big 10 or the sec maybe poach a couple of these teams in the coming years
well ty i would say that uh the the reason the pac-12 is dead is because new big 12 commissioner
brett yormark he's been there about two years essentially end arounded the tv deal and got
espn and fox to agree to a lengthy TV deal
that protects the league's immediate future.
The same TV deal that the Pac-12 probably could have had.
They got caught flat-footed.
They ended up a member of that bad Apple deal at the end.
No, it was Lee Corso's fault.
No, it was Lee Corso's fault.
Remember?
Remember, yeah.
I'm not getting into it.
That was a whole thing.
Yeah.
So, you know, I think that the Big 12 and the SEC,
we are in an era of a power two.
I've probably said that on the show before.
It's sort of something that has become apparent and prevalent
for the past three years.
And that's why Clemson and Florida State are trying to run to the power two.
And that's why the Big 12 is trying to be creative here
and keep its schools, you know, give its schools the
ability to compete with the power tool. Because ultimately, if you're dealing with a different
salary cap, and that's what this $20 million revenue share becomes, you give $15 million of
it to football. And if Big 12 schools are dealing with a smaller cap for football than their
competitors in the Big 10 in the SEC. It's just going to
be very difficult to operate that way. And the same thing goes for the ACC. The ACC is slightly
ahead in a TV deal of the Big 12. And those leagues now are very wary of the gap that's
going to yawn financially because of the CFP money and because of these TV deals that are
really going to start kicking in in the upcoming seasons.
Pete, we can't thank you enough for joining us on short notice.
Great news break out of you this morning.
I can't wait to see where we're all going to get our money from
in the college football world.
They're going to get creative.
Visors are going to be sold.
Oh, yeah.
Coach's visors.
Patches.
Patches on the jerseys, obviously.
Why not side of the helmet?
Why not?
Just take the school off.
Replace the logo, yeah. Visors. It's crazy. This canseys, obviously. Why not the side of the helmet? Why not? Just take the school off. Replace the logo, yeah.
Visors.
It's crazy.
This can't happen, Pete.
There's going to be college football fans that are going to lose their damn minds.
But, hey, we need cash because we're going to be down $200 million
over the next 10 years because we can't figure out how to generate a dollar.
It's wild.
Ladies and gentlemen, Pete Damo.
Appreciate you, Pete.
It's got to be presented by. It has to Dammel. Appreciate you, Pete. I get so upset.
It's got to be presented by.
It has to be presented by.
It has to be.
It cannot just become the...
Can't do that.
There's so many different companies.
The Lion's Den 12, like, you know, the sex shop.
Yeah, sure.
I mean, the Bang Bros 12.
Come on.
There are so many of those.
What are we doing?
They're going to need hundreds of millions.
Yeah.
But if you got it, it's for sale.
That can't be how everything is is Presented by, we completely understand
We actually love that
You're changing the name of the conference
How Pete describes it
That's the brand sponsor
Sponsor becomes brand
If this was the dude wipe show
Which you should buy your dad some dude wipes
For Father's Day
That would be a wild move
We'll be back tomorrow with more stupid stuff You're the greatest show. Which you should buy your dad some dude wipes for Father's Day. That'd be a wild move. That'd be a wild
play. We'll be back tomorrow with more stupid
stuff. You're the greatest.
Cheers.
Not as stupid as selling the naming rights to a conference
though. So fucking dumb.
So dumb. Can't have it.
It'll be hilarious. I love it.
The news broke while we're live, so I'm trying to
read the tweet and then figure out what's going on.
And then in my head, I'm piecing together how it makes sense while we're live so like i'm trying to read the tweet and then figure out what's going on and then in my head i'm piecing together how it makes sense while we're doing conversation and
it has to be presented by presented by presented by okay that make and i'm like this is brilliant
how come nobody has done this especially with the bickle play with the michigan state spartans play
it's like this feels like an easy way to get a shit ton of money because he was talking about
hundreds of millions it's like you could potentially for an entire conference for basketball football every sport has to say the this is a game
in the big 12 conference presented by and they say that every single game you get like title
sponsorship almost of every game even whenever they're playing in college football playoff
this team is representing the big 12
conference it's like in march madness it's like that's a brilliant i was like that's genius and
then he goes no they're thinking about just look fuck the big 12 big is gone yeah we're thinking
just put the the company's name there and it's like you have to have some sort of you know you
have to have a product get tons if they get hundreds and hundreds of millions,
possibly like billions over however many years,
why wouldn't, don't you think the SEC and everyone else will have to?
Like, there's never enough money.
There's never enough, especially with the NIL situation,
where these people all want all the money.
Shanky ain't SEC.
But he won't make it.
It'll be the SEC presented by.
Which we think is genius.
I would like to be on the record saying good business.
That is good business, especially if that's going to fund the $20 million
for the players.
It's like, that's how you offset.
That's smart.
That is smart business there.
I like that.
It's just taking the name.
Greg Sankey ain't ever going to sign anything that's going to take SEC.
It's different down here.
This is just a real deal.
They'll do presented by, and then they'll look like geniuses this is just like when kevin
warren said we're not playing football yes and then greg sankey came out and said uh we're playing
football down here and then big 12 just sells the entire name of the conference and then greg sankey
goes we would never give up the three letters SEC are worth way more than whatever it's presented by,
which we appreciate our sponsors at Coke for presenting the SEC
and everything like that.
But it's like there's just two different games being played right now,
and I think you go back to the Pac-12 losing out on a deal.
It's like how could you not get a deal done?
In the world that we're in right now.
Live sports.
That's what matters.
With the conference being what it was.
Amazon, Apple.
Yeah, the conference had –
You don't believe me.
You go to the national championship.
You got USC.
You got Oregon.
It's like, so when everybody starts attacking Lee Corso,
and I go to bat for Lee because the guy is obviously somebody I think is awesome
and care about and was taking a lot of shrapnel,
and then I start getting attacked for it.
We're the bad ones?
It's like, yo, I don't
know what the business side is happening
over there. You need to look at them.
Amazon, Apple, ESPN,
Fox, CBS,
Peacock.
There are so many platforms right now looking for live
sports. It's like, you couldn't figure out a deal?
That seems like that's on
you. They just got too greedy, right?
Because they were looking for a deal like the sec or the big 10 had because
they had an offer and they basically just said like,
no,
that's not good enough.
That's not good enough.
And then they eventually got to the point where they're like,
all right,
well there's no deal anymore.
So,
and to be clear,
it sucks.
Yeah.
For sure.
The Washington state and Oregon state.
Like that sucks for them and their team.
Like,
I don't think I fully understood
the fears. They're like, we're going to lose our football
program. What do we even... Coach left
Oregon State. He's a great coach. He leaves
because they're no longer in. It's like, I didn't even
think that because we're in 2024. If you have
a good football team, you're going to continue to
have a good football team because the amount of money
that is currently available for live sports, more specifically
football, that is taking place, let alone
sports gambling that's getting involved.
So everything is getting lifted, and everybody's ratings are seemingly up and to the right,
which I don't know how that works, but it's like, it just, that's a shame.
That is a bummer.
But I'll be really bummed out if we just give up the name Big 12
now that West Virginia leaves the Big East to go to the Big 12 years ago, obviously.
And then the Big 12 is like, yeah, who gives a fuck?
Big 12.
Who cares?
Also, this would have never happened if Texas and Oklahoma were still in the conference.
Well, Texas and Oklahoma, if this happens, you're going to say, did you see?
Yeah, right.
Why do you think we got the fuck out of there?
Because of the TV deals.
They can do the presented by.
Which they should.
But the Big 12 and ACC may have to just.
Oh, AJ, think about the people that own some of these companies
that want to portray themselves as massive college football fans too.
Like if you get the presented by for the SEC,
that is every room you walk in, Dan.
You're peacocking everywhere you go.
No question.
It's my whole fucking league.
All the teams.
Hey, you guys are doing good for us.
We appreciate you guys.
All of a sudden, you got like...
You own those teams.
You're the owner of all the teams.
And everybody else is going to fucking hate it.
You can criticize the head coaches publicly and stuff
if you're the CEO of that company.
We thought Alabama was going to perform better for us this year.
Yeah.
They can save it.
It'll get to that.
It'll get to that.
Does the Securities and Exchange Commission
sponsor stuff?
What are you saying? That's the only way the SEC
is going to do it.
The SEC is presented by the SEC.
God, I think they have enough money.
Is that logos on jerseys too?
Oh yeah. And helmets.
Everywhere.
Gear maybe?
Even on gloves, cleats? One final time here, we would like to go on the record. Pres have to get it tattooed. Gear, maybe, even on gloves, cleats.
We would like, one final time here, we would like to go on the record,
presented by a completely cool lady.
They do it for the conference championship game, so it wouldn't even be that.
Dr. Pepper.
Yeah, exactly.
Could you imagine, though, if the CEO of Coke, let's just say the SEC did Coke,
like the CEO of Coke walks into Saban's office if he was still the coach of Bama,
like, man, we thought you guys were going to be much better this year.
Kind of a bummer that you're not.
Have you seen the ratings for your games?
Nobody likes watching you guys.
What happened?
What happened, Nick?
Could you imagine that?
We're going to move your games at 9 a.m. next season.
It's not your fault.
It's ours.
We thought you guys were going to be good.
We put too much trust.
We put too much trust in the Alabama brand, didn't we?
That coach comment to a player is the most right down there.
That's not your fault.
Listen, we thought you were going to be a good player.
We thought you were going to be a great teammate.
We thought you were tough.
We thought you were tough.
That's on us.
That's not on you.
You have always been you. We know that. We misread thought you were tough that's on us that's not on you you have always been you
we know that we misread who you were so this is not your fault when you lay your head down tonight
you don't need to have any second thoughts about anything you've done when we lay our head down
though we're gonna wonder how we got it so wrong with you that is we thought you're gonna maybe be
a good teammate and a good member of society and somebody we like hanging around.
Like, that's not on you.
Okay, you were doing your thing.
That's on us.
And the person's fired, actually.
You know the guy?
He's getting fired.
You're going to let him go.
You're a waste of laundry detergent.
We could have never done that.
We could have never known that.
We thought you'd just be able to put your loop in there, wash your clothes, and we'd be happy about it.
Instead, every time your loop goes in there, we're trying to gauge how much money worth of laundry detergent are we spending on you and that is now a part of
our budget we didn't think that was going to be the case oh when we signed you here we had no idea
that's on us that's not on you all right have a good day we'll see you tomorrow yeah sleep well
get some rest team meeting 305 don't be late you go. And once again, we thought you'd be guys show up on time.
You won't.
We have to lie about what time team meetings are to you, only to you,
not to everybody else.
We didn't expect that.
Boy, those are the – we're not mad.
We're disappointed.
We're disappointed in ourselves.
Just to a, you know, infinite –
Then they tell the parents the same thing,
like when the parents come in for the spring game or something.
We thought he was going to be tough.
Didn't you?
We thought you raised him right.
We thought you raised him the correct way.
I remember sitting in your living room.
Do you remember sitting in your living room?
You told me that he was.
You really fooled us, huh?
You guys really worked us.
I hope you're happy.
You got a scholarship out of it.
But he's got D's, so.
Is he even using it?
Sports! It's already Thursday.
This week has flown by. AJ didn't even give an attempt.
That's AJ Hawk.
I almost said sports. My bad. I almost said sports.
I panicked and didn't say anything. That's my bad.
Almost said it.
I don't understand.
Sweet. Next time? I almost said football. My bad. AJ, it. I don't understand. Okay. All right. Sweet.
Hey, next time. Almost said football.
Almost said football.
My bad.
Okay.
AJ, we'd rather you be wrong going 100 miles an hour than, you know, not passing it.
You're right.
That's what I tell the kids.
If I ever coach any kids, I tell them the exact same thing, so that's on me.
I like that you had football on the mind, though.
This is kind of, this is A-okay.
You know what I mean?
This is kind of A-okay.
The talk today was here at Boston Connor and at Ty Schmidt.
One half of the hammer.
Dad. Cowboys Town Diggs is here.
And, A.J., we haven't really had an opportunity to do this with you in some time here.
How about the Boston Celtics winning the NBA title?
Congratulations.
Get the duck boats fired up.
Get them gassed up.
I mean, look, this is a daily reminder up here on why we don't do this shit.
And you guys are just trying to run this back right here.
It's never happened before, right?
No one's ever come back from 3-0.
In basketball, but it has happened.
I mean, last year, the Celtics were down 3-0, and they forced a game 7.
And if Jason Tatum doesn't roll his ankle on the first play of the game,
they probably come back down 3-0.
And you fuckers.
That was the Celtics that did it.
You're not really worried.
It's not happening to them.
I am worried.
I mean, Luka's come back down 3-1, and they've won the series.
And there's been a lot of terrible things said about Luka today.
A lot of terrible things said about Luka.
And if we know anything about Luka, he hears them and he responds to them.
They're saying he's a liability.
How about that?
And then JaVale McGee's like, yeah, only talking about because they lost.
They win that game last night.
All anybody's going to talk about is, yeah, Luka does enough on the defensive side,
but on the offense is where it really gets cooking.
Yeah, he likes to work the refs.
That's a competitive edge.
That's a competitive edge that only the greats have.
It is true, like kind of the two sides of the coin on whether or not you win
or you lose, but if you lose, that means it's not working,
which is why it gets kind of put into a spotlight so much him talking to the refs is something that uh i hope he figures out how to
work on a little bit and i know everybody's talking to the ref says javel mcgee all the stars are
but it's like it can't be every time you know it's like boy who cried wolf
yeah i understand why he's pissed i really do but yeah if you lose people think you're whining if
you win oh he's just what a competitor what a this guy, if you lose, people think you're whining. If you win, oh, he's just, what a competitor.
This guy will win at all costs.
So yeah, it's our fault as well. No question.
And Kyrie's getting going. That's why it's not
just, hey, this thing's completely done.
It's like, Luka can easily come back and have
a 40-point triple-double, and Kyrie can
score. Yeah, but easily, you guys could just win this,
which you already did. No, we haven't.
Season three!
We could absolutely, you son of Season three. We could absolutely.
You saw him, bitch.
We could absolutely win.
Was there a bet available for the Celtics to win the NBA Finals in three games?
I looked at the books.
There wasn't, but I'd be shocked.
You saw one, AJ?
I saw one out there on the internet.
I forget which book it was, but yeah, a lot of people took that.
I had to guess, but in a good way.
They're still getting the point.
Yeah, this is a good thing.
Yeah, yeah.
They have bets that no one else has, which I love.
This is great news that they are still underdogs for you.
For now.
And that's the other worry.
It's like, hey, you never know what can happen.
What happens if someone gets injured, just like Porzingis did?
There are things that can still happen in a game that can ruin this.
And if it does happen, there's a chance that i show up at
all your guys's house and poop on your doorstep because that'd be a lot of poop in one night
it would be a progression it would be like a week so he'd know it was coming no no you wouldn't know
it's me just be like whoa why is there on fire on my doorstep right now okay so ty would
have that happen ty would probably tell us when he walks in.
There was a flaming bag of poop.
So then like a week later.
Shit, that's fucking crazy, man. How'd that happen?
So then Tone comes in like a week later
and he goes, hey Ty, I don't think you're the only one.
Flaming bag of poop on mine, too.
And then AJ somehow.
Oh, definitely. AJ would probably be
first because then it's like, well, I didn't
drive to Cincinnati. Could you imagine us trying to piece it together, somebody pooping in Dublin
and then also pooping all the way over here?
You got to drive to Pac-Man's house, too.
You're going to dump on Pac-Man's.
Cincinnati, that's in two different places, right?
So Columbus is directly left or right of us on the map.
Cincinnati's like down.
Cincinnati's close.
Yeah, hour and a half.
Hour and a half.
Did you know? I don't think I knew that until I got out here. How close. Cincinnati? Close. Yeah, hour and a half. Hour 15. Did you know? I don't think I knew that
until I got out here. How close is Cincinnati?
Same with like St. Louis and
what's the other one? Kansas City?
Kansas City, Louisville. Louisville.
Going to the Kentucky Derby is not a problem.
Yeah, Chicago too.
Nashville. It's nice.
Indy's a great place. Good location. That's why
everybody has their events here. Centrally located, yeah.
Yeah, very centrally located. Monday in Arroz here
in a week. June 24th. Here we go.
June 24th, yeah, a week from Monday.
Monday, Corpus Christi, June 24th,
Indianapolis. I'll pump to you for that. Okay, so I didn't know
it was happening until
like within the last
week or so. Monday, probably. Yeah, I think
it was Monday when they were like, hey, Indianapolis
two weeks. I'm like, we're in
Indianapolis? Yeah, I'm so pumped.
That is a... Afterwards,
just heading to my house.
Driving? You're just driving to
work that day. My God, that's going to be awesome.
Is Michael Cole going to stay the night with you?
I think the night before he's coming in, yeah.
He's already tried to weasel his way
into a free dinner for one of the boys.
Yeah, he already got it.
He's currently en route to Scotland.
Glasgow?
Clash at the castle?
So he's bitching about something.
Something happened with his travel.
I have no idea what it was.
Does he get a lay down seat?
That's a big deal.
So he was flying coach for like 20 years
with the WWE.
Layovers every single trip.
Only missed three shows now in 27 years and one of them was
in the last 12 months.
He only missed two shows in 26 years
pretty much and he was flying coach
to a majority of them. I think he
has since been moved
up a bit but he doesn't care.
He'll sit on the toilet and fly
for like six hours.
His work ethic is insane.
His humility obviously absurd. His is, his work ethic is insane. His humility,
obviously absurd.
His talent in abundance,
but he is a miserable fuck sometimes.
You know,
every once in a while,
you know,
like the Mets.
Sure.
Of course.
When he starts talking about the Mets,
it is the best.
He's a Jets fan.
Yeah.
When he starts talking about the Jets,
it is the best.
I mean,
he's just going.
It is.
Have any of his,
have any of like the Jets and the Mets, have they ever
brought him joy? Has he ever been
happy for something they've done? No, and also
the Knicks. He's also a
Knicks fan, too. This should have been a great year for him, then.
They had a nice little run. Had an opportunity for all of them.
Aaron, you know, had the run.
The Mets had a chance. They spent the most money.
The Knicks were right there. Knicks, obviously, this is the one
where they were going to go. So, yeah, which makes it even
worse. Like last year, before baseball this is the one where they were going to go. So, yeah, which makes it even worse.
Like last year before baseball season when the Mets had all that,
like, hey, they signed everybody and all that momentum going.
Yeah, Edwin Diaz.
And then before the season, Edwin Diaz blows his knee out in the World Baseball.
Breaks his ankle, right?
Yeah, I mean, it was an ankle or, yeah,
he blew his knee out in the World Baseball Classic,
dancing on the field.
On the mound. Just dancing, not, yeah, he blew his knee out in the world baseball class. He's dancing on the field. On the mound.
Just dancing, not like pitching.
And then Cole, a wizard with words.
Goes, oh, of course.
And then a full on.
I love that man.
He is an entertaining human being.
And I do believe he had some travel problems on his way to Scotland.
He'll get there, though.
That's what the voice of the WWE does.
That means he missed his whiskey tour.
Yes.
Oh, no.
Oh, that sucks.
That sucks.
I feel bad for him now.
He was so mad.
He was going on a whiskey tour, ISO, all by himself.
All by himself.
He signed up for a whiskey tour in Scotland.
Good for him.
Changed his flight so that he could get there for this whiskey tour.
He was so excited.
Talking about, when I say talking
about something for like 45
minutes to an hour throughout the entire
day, maybe an hour worth of
conversation about this whiskey tour throughout
the entire day. Travel issues,
didn't make it. Missed it.
So excited. Someone make that right.
All by himself, he was going
I'm like, so what are you going to do here?
He goes, I'll just show up, and I think there's like five other people,
and then the tour will walk us through, and we'll have a bunch of whiskey.
And I'm like, you don't want to do that with anybody?
He goes, no.
Why would I want to do that?
Yeah, he said, do they like whiskey as much as I do?
No, I don't care.
I'm like, that's hilarious, and then he missed it.
That was in, I think, going to be in Edinburgh.
Oh.
I think it was in a different place.
He's blacked out on the plane ride now.
I don't, yeah.
Different type of whiskey tour.
Yeah, yeah.
He's going to be drinking Pabst Blue Ribbon.
Yeah.
PBR's a little different.
In Jack Daniels.
That's what he normally drinks.
The best whiskey in the world.
Here's a photo of him back in the beginning of his journalism days, I do believe.
We just pulled up.
This may be when he was in Bosnia.
Wow.
Him on the floor.
George Lucas next to him?
I don't know. Yeah, for real. That's him in the middle.
He's in the middle. Yeah, I can see how you maybe think
the left or the right. He's the one in the middle
there with the mustache.
What a legend. Way to go, Michael Cole.
Call a great clash at the castle.
Good luck, Cole.
Ladies and gentlemen, college football season is right around
the corner, and don't look now.
There's some good bets available.
To lay them out, one half of the hammer dot cowboys tone digs with cfb long shots with tone cfb long shot
yeah what you're looking at there is me just handling a Barrett.50 Cal sniper rifle, okay?
Because we're over two months away from the season.
On a Saturday during the season, like on a nice fall, beautiful Saturday beginning of the year,
I'm on that turret and I'm laying scunion, okay?
I'm just letting it ride what's going on.
I don't think that is a turret.
No, no, no.
On Saturdays, I'm on a turret just laying scunion.
I don't care where the bullets are.
Now that we're more than two months out here, a little more precise.
These shots are at least 500 yards out.
Some of these shots, I'm setting records, close to two miles out.
We've got real long shots here.
So what I did preparing for the college football season,
I was going through some of the teams and I was like
there's some teams here that
they are outside the top 25
as far as odds to make
the college football playoff. 12 teams.
These teams are all outside the top
25. They're also all outside of the
top 5 to win their conference.
So they're not even in the top 5 to win their conference.
And as far
as the way that their schedule's shaped up
and who they're bringing back,
I like these teams to potentially make a run
and to get in the college football playoff.
And I think the odds are pretty good that it's worth a decent shot.
Let's dive in.
Yeah, I'm starting in the Big Ten with Ty Schmitz, Iowa Hawkeyes.
Hell yeah, Tony.
They are plus 700 to make the college football playoffs.
They are sixth in the Big Ten to win the Big Ten.
What was their record last?
10-4, 10-3, I believe?
10-3.
10-3 last year.
Is that a good record?
Yes.
Yes, it is.
They returned 18 starters off of that 10-3 team.
Nine on offense, nine on defense.
They had the 130th ranked offense in college football last year.
Can it get worse?
It could get –
The year before they were worse.
They were 131.
Yeah.
It could get slightly worse.
It could get three teams worse, but they brought in a new OC.
They have Cade McNamara, who was the Michigan transfer,
who is coming back.
They have both of their running backs returning.
They have four of five O-linemen returning.
And then their defense ranked fourth last year.
So they have nine guys
coming back on that defense.
Okay, they were good last year. Their schedule.
They have to play Ohio State.
Ohio State is the cream of the crop this year in the Big Ten.
But four of the other top five
teams, they do not have to play. They don't have to play Oregon.
They don't have to play Penn State. They don't have to play Michigan.
And they do not have to play USC. That sets up nice play Oregon. They don't have to play Penn State. They don't have to play Michigan. They do not have to play USC. That sets up
nice. Then all the other tougher
games, Iowa State, Washington,
Wisconsin, they're all at home. They all
get a McKinnick. They have the second
easiest schedule in the Big Ten.
Plus 700?
They made the Big Ten championship game last
year with their schedule and with that team
last year. If they have a similar
guess what? Big Ten's getting
three or four teams in. Let's be honest.
So plus 700 to make the college football playoffs.
That is my first. I like that, baby!
We like this sniper!
My second team, let's go down
Stillwater, Oklahoma State.
Very, very similar to
Iowa last year. They finished 10-4.
Also went to the Big 12
championship game. They are plus
9.50 to make the college football
playoffs. You're going to see a bit of a trend here
with me. 10-4. Made their
conference championship game last year.
Have guys returning. They have
20 returning starters.
In college football these days, when you have 20
returning starters, that is huge. That guy you're
watching right there, Aldi Gordon,
who is going to be a top Heisman candidate, ran for 1,700 yards and 21 touchdowns.
He's back?
Yeah, he is back.
Damn.
Ollie Gordon's back.
Alan Bowman's back.
Their quarterback, he is back.
So they have four of their five offensive linemen starting,
and they leaned on that run game last year when you have four or five
offensive linemen returning, plus him coming back,
plus the quarterback coming back.
Utah is the favorite to win the Big 12, if that is still the Big 12.
Really?
Yeah, they also get Utah at home.
So they get the favorite of the conference at home.
Their schedule is the 62nd hardest schedule in the country, which is –
it's not bad.
That's kind of typical for the Big 12.
And then Mike Gundy.
He just kind of knows how to coach, okay? Does he? then Mike Gundy. He just kind of knows how to coach.
Does he? Yeah.
Mike Gundy does know how to coach.
I think so. He just doesn't know how to
watch news.
He wouldn't
say that. Guess what? They lost to
who in the Big 12 championship game last year?
Texas, I believe. Oh, they're gone.
Oklahoma's gone. Utah's
the bad boys of this conference now.
Well, West Virginia is, but I understand what you're saying.
I'm letting you do your thing right now because you're doing your thing.
This could have easily been West Virginia.
Yeah.
Plus 950 sounds really nice.
20 returning starters plus the Heisman Canada running back.
I was doing stuff on game day this past year comparing him to Derrick Henry
because Derrick Henry was the last running back to win the Heisman.
And what he was doing, he was putting up like hundreds of yards a week,
multiple touchdowns.
Nobody was really talking about it because it was Big 12
and it's a running back as opposed to everything else happening.
He's a dog.
He's back four out of five offensive linemen returning.
Whoa.
Plus 950.
That's a good play.
Yeah.
The last one comes from the ACC, and it's an old-school program
that I feel like the tides are turning and they're coming back.
We're going to Blacksburg, Virginia, Virginia Tech, the Hokies.
They are plus 900 to make the college football playoffs.
They finished, a lot of people don't know this,
but they finished fourth in the ACC last season.
Kyron Drones, the quarterback here, number one,
he did not start the first three or four games a year they
started the season one and three and then once he became the starter uh they were awesome they
started just rattling off wins they also have 20 returning starters four of the five offensive
linemen and then similar to iowa their schedule sets up incredibly of the top eight acc teams to
win the acc they only have to play two of them.
They get Clemson at home.
Well, Clemson, we know.
Yeah.
They lost a lot.
Got that drip.
No transfer portal.
No transfer portal.
So they get Clemson at home, and then they have to go on the road to Miami.
And then the other two, FSU also lost a ton of guys.
They only have, like, nine returning starters this year.
So they're replacing a lot.
And then do we trust, like, Miami, Louisville, like those ACC teams?
I don't know.
So as far – they have the easiest schedule in the ACC, does Virginia Tech.
Plus they have 20 returning starters.
They have a lot of talent coming back.
And then with the odds here, I thought it was worth a flyer here
for Virginia Tech to go back to the college football playoffs.
Plus 900.
To be clear, fan base is awesome, too.
If they had a game, not that they would be hosting a game with what you're saying long-shot-wise,
but if they were to somehow host a college football playoff game at Virginia Tech,
it would be stupendous.
I think that Clemson game is late October, early November.
If that comes out and that's at home.
I trust Louisville, I think, because Braum.
Yeah.
Yeah, they did.
They had a great first year.
They made it to the ACC championship game last year.
In Miami, every year it's like, maybe.
And then they.
After what we saw last year with Miami and Mario Cristobal,
some of their late game decisions, it's tough to trust them.
Oh, yeah, because the player needs to hold on to the ball.
Yeah, exactly.
Yeah, didn't take a knee.
Why are we running the ball anyways, coach?
It doesn't matter. He's got to hold on to the ball. Well, it sounds like you probably shouldn't just blame the player needs to hold on to the ball. Yeah, exactly. Didn't take a knee. Why are we running the ball anyways, coach? It doesn't matter.
He's got to hold on to the ball.
Well, it sounds like you probably shouldn't just blame the player here.
It's probably a failure at the top here, too.
A little bit of both.
Okay, we'll see.
That's $10 to win $7,700.
If you just parlay those three?
If you parlay all three.
Why not?
Yes.
Way to go, Tone.
Thank you for doing that.
Let's go, Tony.
Tone Diggs, one half of the Hammer,
not Cowboys,
is actually piecing together
a college football preview book right now.
We're about a month away from it.
It's going to be legit, AJ.
It's going to be, like you just heard there,
the reason why he's able to just spout that out
is because this dude does research
on college football all year round.
Loves it.
Absolutely loves it.
He was my tag team partner
the last two years on game day, helping me out immensely
with shit. He's just so fascinated
by it. It's a lot
of work if you're willing to do it.
Tone has a great work ethic and enjoys it.
We'll have a college football preview book
being released in about a month or so
from Tone Diggs with quotes from people,
schedule previews,
summaries of off seasons.
It's like
he's really doing it
hey Tom keep going buddy
basically I put together
all the information
that I think someone
would need
for
like if you're gonna
if you're
if you just didn't pay
attention to college football
at all
from now
from national championship
game to now
on basically what happened
what their last year stats
were
returning starters
all that stuff
going into the football season.
We need to know the new name of the conferences before that book is on paper.
Definitely.
What about you check what the odds are,
let's say Colorado to make the college football playoff.
What are those?
It's a lot longer than these teams.
Their total, I think, is like five and a half or something like that.
Dude.
As far as win total.
Obviously, Deion Sanders and everything he has done for football,
we are appreciative of.
You're talking about one of the greatest of all time,
let alone giving back with his camps, his community, his team,
and now he's coaching in Colorado and the numbers are absurd.
He's bringing more money to that city, I think,
than anybody in the history of Boulder or whatever it is.
And that's a wonderful place.
Their first three games are not easy.
They are not easy.
And it's like the hype going into the season because it is,
Deion Sanders coaching the team, prime coach prime coaching the team,
is going to be massive.
It's setting up for like if they get passed because they got Dakota,
North Dakota State, then they got Nebraska, second year of Matt Rule.
You look at the history of what Matt Rule has done at programs in college,
whether it's Temple, Baylor,
and I think even a place before that you could go,
it's like year one to year two, the jump is absurd.
It is rather safe.
I don't think they lost anybody.
I don't think.
And is Ray Ola going to be the starting quarterback too?
I would assume.
There was a lot of film on him in the spring,
so maybe early you get a chance to get a jump on him before he figures it out.
I guess that could be the case.
But, like, very difficult game against North Carolina.
It's going to be a tough game.
I guess you've got a first week, too.
Like, I don't know if that's the right spot to take on that particular team.
And then Nebraska week, too.
It's like that's a tough start for Colorado.
But if they're able to get through that,
the momentum that they could potentially ride the rest of the way would be
huge. Nebraska has 17 returning
starters, 10 on offense.
Colorado's over-under win total is 5.5
for the season. They are plus
2,200 to make the college football playoff.
And then Shador is
going to be a top five pick?
That's what's being alleged?
Travis Hunter, they're saying for sure.
Yeah.
Shador threw a lot of That's what's being alleged. That's what's being alleged. Travis Hunter, they're saying for sure. Yeah. Which makes Travis.
Shador threw a lot of touchdowns last year.
Yes.
A lot of touchdowns. And a lot of yards.
A lot of yards.
Yeah, got sacked a hundred times.
A lot of times.
But they did address the offensive line.
Which was needed.
They brought in transfers, and then they got that one guy who was always on FS1 in the morning.
They needed bigger luggage.
Who?
Who?
That one tackle that just kept going on that show.
He committed, he decommitted, he committed, he decommitted.
I don't know if he was the number one tackle or who's.
You say he just keeps going on TV.
He was on that.
He was.
He was.
To Tony's point, he was on that show like three or four times.
What happened?
He was just, he didn't know where he was going?
He was flip-flopping. I don't know if that's why he was flip-flopping, so he'd keep going on the show like three or four times. What happened? He was just, he didn't know where he was going? He was flip-flopping.
I don't know if that's why he was flip-flopping.
So he'd keep going on the show.
I think that definitely.
What was he on?
He was on Skip's show?
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, is that what it was?
Yeah.
Yeah.
He went on Undisputed, committed, and was like trying to get other guys who haven't
committed yet to go to Colorado.
And then like three days later, he decommitted.
And then he went back on after he committed again.
And it was just kind of a carousel.
He must be good.
Yeah.
For all that, this is all the be who you can afford to be type thing.
Hasn't done anything in college yet, but everybody's assuming he will,
so we'll do the whole song and dance.
There you go.
Do the whole song and dance.
Warren Sapp is a D-line coach, right?
Yep, correct.
D-line coach.
People do not like his mohawk.
I don't know.
It was just a big conversation. He was wearing it. He had a mohawk on,? I don't know. It's just a big conversation.
He was wearing it.
He had a mohawk on, and people were like.
He's a college coach.
Exactly.
He wants a mohawk with the boys.
He's a Super Bowl champion.
He can do whatever.
The whole thing with me.
Yeah, do whatever the fuck he wants.
They said he was so fast.
They said he was so fast.
He did something like rookie year that nobody's ever done.
I forget.
I think his name was being tossed around.
He's got great feet, great hands, leverage.
The dude is, hey, man, so good good a lot of moxie yeah a lot of moxie yeah there it is yeah there it is i don't like his mohawk i don't know why i think it looks awesome yeah come on now it's
pretty good mohawk it is pretty good tight mohawk everybody's a great good i don't know he's a great
like a fisherman right and like a professional angler?
I could see it.
He's always fishing.
I remember following him online.
He's always fishing somewhere.
So Deion, too, right?
Incredible fisherman?
Yep.
I wonder if that's where they decided we're going to coach together.
Some people are really good anglers.
Who's that guy?
Kevin Van Dam. Kevin Van Dam, yeah.
Unfortunately, we lost a great one.
Kevin Van Dam, well, actually, it lost a great one. Kevin Van Dam.
Well, actually, it's not arguably.
He is the greatest fucking fisherman of all time, bar none.
Anyone who follows angling or pro bass fishing knows that Kevin Van Dam is the goat of all goats. Rowan Martin.
What about that old, that bleached blonde guy that was always on TV?
Yeah, wrong.
Not right now.
Wrong.
Okay, he ain't no fucking Kevin Van Dam.
Don't do this right now. Even if he was alive,'t no fucking Kevin Van Dam. Don't do this right now.
Even if he was alive, we're saying Kevin Van Dam's catching more fucking fish than he is.
Yeah, exactly.
That's what people are saying.
One more, you know, pro bass fishing titles than any other guy.
Any other guy got even close to sniffing.
He's putting the rod and the reel down.
He's retiring.
Hell of a run, Mr. Van Dam.
Gonna miss you, Kev.
Oh, so he's not dead.
No, no, no, no. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He's not. He, Mr. Van Damme. Gonna miss you, Kev. Oh, so he's not dead. No, no, no.
He's retired from fishing.
He don't retire from fishing.
Professionally. He'll pick up the rod
when he's on the pond. The body just
doesn't have it anymore.
Is that Ian Rafferty?
He's just sick of the 4 a.m. wake-ups.
Sick of the 4 a.m. wake-ups on the boat.
Trying to find the hole. Doing what he's gotta do.
He's already won enough.
The guy's a goat.
Exactly.
These pieces of shit who are loading the fish with, you know.
Ohio people.
Yeah, exactly.
He's done with that.
This new generation of anglers, he just.
He can't do it.
He won't do it.
They're entitled.
They're entitled.
Yep.
Makes sense.
Congrats on a hell of a fishing career.
He might be back.
I think he'll be back.
You think he's going to get called back to the game?
His body's going to feel good.
Like eight months later,
his body's going to feel great.
Limbs feel good.
Joints feel good.
He's like,
I'm coming back
and it's going to just take over the world.
What if he walks out to his pond one day?
What if he walks out there one day?
It's so funny, AJ.
Hold on.
Hold on.
Show a little fucking respect, will you?
I do.
That's what I'm saying.
I love all the sponsors. Yeah, he's the fucking best of all time what's
gonna happen is you know him the kids you know grandkids maybe whatever the case gonna walk out
to the pond one day he's gonna throw that son of a bitch out there he's gonna do a new move with
his hand and it's gonna make that fucker dance in a different way, he's going to be like, wait a minute. Hold on. I do still got it.
I found something here.
I do.
I do.
I still.
Change the game.
Wait a minute.
Oh, no.
Then like Michael Jordan.
Yep.
Like Tiger Woods.
Tom.
Like Tom Brady coming back out of retirement saying, let me see.
And then he goes on a run with the new move.
And then all of a sudden we got two Hall of Fame careers out of Mr. Van Dam.
The angling community can only dream that we get to see him back in a boat in competition again.
Ain't that right, Ty?
Absolutely.
I would like to see him go big game hunting, maybe go out on the ocean and catch like a—
Deep sea.
Exactly.
Deep sea fishing.
Catch like a fucking 18,000-pound marlin or tuna or something like that.
Because I know he can do it.
It's just whether or not he actually wants to here's some van dam highlights obviously whenever he was showing the
fish everybody knew what was happening that was the biggest fucking fish in town exactly he knew
where all the holes were somehow even if he had never been to a place before he had a sense for
it and i for it as a kid he was able to pull these fucking fish out of ponds at a level that nobody
could ever understand and his moxie certainly threw the roof. He was proud of the work he put
in. You put him above some water that he
couldn't see through, he put some polarized sunglasses
on, he'd find the biggest fucking fish you got.
Exactly. Every single bass knew that when
Van Damme came to town, there was a good chance they were
leaving their home forever.
Hey, see ya, babe. What's going on?
Van Damme's fishing on our fucking
pond. I'm done-zo.
Because I know it's a bait. I know it's a lure, but I just can't help myself. And Van Damme fishing on our fucking pond. I'm donezo. Because I know it's a bait.
I know it's a lure.
But I just can't help myself.
And Van Dam, boom, snatches that son of a bitch right out from its home.
That's what Van Dam fishing is all about.
Exactly.
And you see, I mean, when you've got guys like Dave Mercer,
other goats who are kind of just bowing down at the knees of Kevin Van Dam,
it makes sense.
And you notice some of that stuff.
Before Kevin Van Dam, you didn't have all that
pyro and shit going on when
guys would win bash-facing titles.
They said, listen, we got a
superstar here. Let's up the
production value. Let's get some of this shit going.
Let's drop the confetti. Let's bring in
the American flag. Eight-time
Angler of the Year.
Yeah, and they don't chant MVP
over there. They chant KVD. KVD!
KVD!
Which means MVF.
Which is the most valuable fisherman.
Because that's what Kevin Van Dam
has been to the community.
And the shit he was doing
was just way, way before his time.
And he's still evolving
to this day, AJ.
It's a bad day to be a fish when Van Damme comes to town.
It's a hell of a run.
Hell of a run for Van Damme, I guess.
Is he related to Jean-Claude at all?
Do we know? We don't know.
Rob Van Damme, potentially.
I believe him and RVD are brothers.
Nice. Congrats.
Just a lot of elite
A lot of argument between who's the greatest.
Yeah, exactly.
And the family, obviously it's Kev, but RVD, you know,
he gave him a run for his money there for a while.
Yeah.
To Zito's point,
I do think it got to a point where he did do the Kevin van.
Damn.
After every fish he caught,
the other people on the boat were like, you don't have to do it.
Every fish.
He's like, well, now it's a thing.
You know, and they didn't always get along
because RVD said a couple times,
conflicting energies.
I won't go on any further
because I'll just do the whole thing.
Hey, Rob, you're a beast.
He is.
Love you.
Rob, you're a beast.
So is Kevin.
Yeah.
That's like with Matt Rule saying,
I don't want any teams that have Dakota in their name.
If I'm going into a fight,
I don't want any fucking Van Dams on the other side.
No.
Okay?
I just don't want it.
Van anything.
Really?
You're right.
Yeah, you're right.
Rude Van Nistelrooy.
Boom.
Yeah.
Don't want that.
Van Percy.
Don't want that.
Van Jefferson.
Yeah.
All right. That seems. Van Persie. Van Jefferson. Yeah.
All right.
That seems like that's good.
That was not on my bingo card today.
You sure?
I feel like we just did some real good stuff there. Yeah.
I mean, it's got range.
Thank you.
And sport, which I'm appreciative.
Did you see that bull?
Bull with that lady?
Oh.
She took a quick trip to what the fuck?
How'd that thing get out here?
Yeah. That's bad. That's what obviously shouldn't happen. Bull, that lady. She took a quick trip to, what the fuck? How'd that thing get out here?
That's what obviously shouldn't happen, but these bulls these days,
and obviously we understand at rodeos, the bull is one of the most important characters.
You got a good bull, you got to go rodeo.
You got a pissed off bull, you got to go rodeo.
You got a bull that's too pissed off at a rodeo,
well, that bull is going to go say hi to people at the rodeo.
I'm coming for you, motherfuckers.
Takes out a garbage can.
Somebody's trying to get maybe a wheat tea or something like that.
Gone.
Oh, my God.
Hanging out with the family.
Just took a dump, maybe.
Maybe a pee.
All of a sudden getting gored by a bull.
This was in Oregon, I do believe.
And that bull would run wild throughout the entire rodeo.
Teas and peas to everybody out there.
The lady is alive.
They shoot that thing?
They did have to.
The bull was forced to retire.
I did see that. So he's dead?
They're letting the lady do it too,
which they should. Yeah, they should with a baseball bat. I don't know if
she needs to get near that bull at all with
anything that is... Well, tranquilize it first.
Make it almost comatose.
She broke rule number one of going to rodeo.
To be fair.
Did you happen to see the color of the garbage can that the bull knocked over?
Red garbage can.
You happened to see the color that she was wearing?
Yeah.
You don't wear red to a rodeo, okay, ma'am?
We're all learning that right now.
Yeah.
And, you know, that might not be her first rodeo,
but I think everybody's next rodeo is one where we realize
these bulls are athletic fuckers.
They might be roaming the stands.
Let's keep our heads on a swivel when we go to rodeos,
which is something we're going to be doing all summer.
I can't wait.
That's exactly right.
I actually heard, AJ, you talked about how they get that thing out of there,
how they wrangle it.
I heard they dropped the bull rider.
Like he jumped off.
From a helicopter, yeah.
Like a Coast Guard. I'd like to see a clip of that.
Yeah, it got dropped and it
fucking landed on it.
And then bang, bang, bang, bang, bang
that thing and then inevitably
Just rode him right back into the barn?
Just kick with the left spur.
That's cool.
They equip those people with pistols just in case the bull doesn't stop
Because then it's just like, alright, fuck it
And then they just hop off
But this bull did stop
That bull there feels like a bull that people would want to keep alive
So they could reproduce it
Seems like it's got some real power
Forgot all about my hip flex when I jumped on that
Oh boy
Is there more blood?
Yeah, it's not better.
I don't know.
Dang.
It's not better.
It's good.
It's healing.
Your body is healing itself.
It came to the top.
It is creeping down a little bit more, it feels like.
Yeah.
Goddamn.
I'm starting to get pain here, though.
I think that's because of the migration of the blood from the hip flexor to wherever it's headed.
I was told I need to put those Normatec boots on. those will get here next week that should be good oh okay those things
look so cool when you go tomorrow they do grella was wearing them oh yeah we walked into the uh the
hotel room that we had for concave uh see grellas just sitting on the ground with the norma tex on
looks so cool so professional so professional those things can't wait to have a pair around
the office because of this. Yeah.
We don't need to ever use them again, though.
No.
Hopefully not.
The people say you need to learn from this experience for the next one.
I'm like, we don't need this experience.
Ever again.
Ever again.
That's why me and Gumpy are going to be playing in men's league here in Indianapolis
whenever this thing gets back to it so that we have a full year of preparation for TSD next year.
Okay, AJ?
We should do that.
I see intramural men's leagues all the time
at different fields on that.
They play at night.
Yeah, there's all kind of stuff.
So every city seemingly has a bunch of games.
That was a cool part of the soccer tournament
was, like, getting to catch up and learn about the soccer world more.
Like, the underground soccer communities that are everywhere.
Had no clue that was a thing.
It was awesome.
Like, learning about it. It was awesome.
Like, learning about it, it was, like, real eye-opening.
Like, I assume there is cash soccer games here in Indianapolis happening on a every-other-night basis probably somewhere,
and we were talking about going into it.
Like, we can't find games anywhere.
We'll find you.
There's games.
There's games in a lot of places.
Yeah, there's guys probably in Indianapolis that are just playing
these pickup soccer games for a living. That is just
what they're doing. This entire thing, it's like,
sweet, I can't wait to do it. It was fun
learning about the world. It would be a great documentary.
We should do it. Somebody should do it.
That would be...
They've got a lot of personality.
Oh, yeah.
If you just put a camera on meat and follow him around
and a couple of his buds, that would be a great doc.
Yeah, the arena boys.
That's like the first thought you have whenever you're talking to them and learning from them like these dudes need to be them just stand there get boozed up
watching the finals all the time wearing the jerseys doing the chance it's fucking unbelievable
dude breck shea sent me a video last night of them on a scooter heading to the U.S.-Brazil game.
And Jeff Cameron's on a scooter in front of them.
He's on the back one.
And they start, oh, oh, oh, Conkato.
It's catchy, wasn't it?
Oh, yeah.
One of the Arena League boys thought of that.
What a fun time.
Anyways, we're going to play soccer whenever this thing heals.
We're going to get back into it so that we're not caught off guard
and our muscles quit mid-swing.
That would be fun.
That's what's cool about being at that soccer tournament too.
I'm like, man, it's cool that these guys can come together and they can play their sport in that setting.
In football, you don't really have that.
You have seven on seven you could do, but it's not the same.
Fans.
Yeah, a lot of fans.
Lights, fans playing under the lights in front of fans.
Again, that's not happening in a lot of
situations it was like you know i i hit that ball to grella there's like a little pop from the like
you feel i felt like real felt like real juice performer on espn yeah hey how about that wow
what an honor you know grella grella did a throwback do you see that on his instagram story
yeah he was 2006 yeah i didn't know I didn't realize we were sitting around.
Fastest MLS goal ever.
Grella scored seven seconds into a game.
Seven seconds scored in an MLS game.
I thought I saw something.
Are they not already?
Is Netflix not already doing a documentary on meat?
I saw it.
Was that not the?
Oh, no, that was the little thing going around.
Your best day?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Saw a bunch of people do that.
It's like a trend.
Oh, I only saw that one.
I thought Netflix.
I thought you said at one point that cameras were following meat around
and he didn't know who they were.
I just figured that was Netflix.
It wasn't meat.
Gordo.
Gordo.
Gordo.
One of our guys, one of our arena guys got miked up for a game,
had no idea who miked him up.
Had no clue.
He didn't know?
No idea, yeah.
Even at middle of game, I'm like, all right,
not going near Gordy, obviously.
He would come down, celebrate.
It would be good.
Yeah, Gordy.
Hell yeah, Gordy.
Love his energy.
Awesome.
I think he almost started a fight while he was miked up.
I mean, there was a full.
Gordy had a great night while he was miked up.
And then after the game, I'm like, who are you miked up for, by the way?
He goes, I don't know.
It was just a person.
I'm like, all right.
All right, Gordo.
All right, Gordo. Maybe Gordo. He goes, I don't know. It was just a person. I'm like, all right. All right, Gordo. All right, Gordo.
Maybe Gordo.
Random.
He goes, I didn't say it.
I mean, I asked Jeff.
I think I asked Jeff if I should be mic'd up, and Jeff said, sure.
And I put it on.
I was like, Gordo, you're awesome.
These Arena League boys are just a different animal.
Yeah.
Loose cannons.
Good luck to the Arena boys.
They're playing in games probably tonight.
They're in a tournament probably this weekend.
Oh, yeah?
Sure.
If I had to guess. I don't know what team they're on but i know that
that team has a good chance of winning yeah they won a uh two thousand dollar co-ed tournament the
week before the soccer tournament nice two thousand dollar co-ed tournament i'm like so how'd that go
meet was i was just yeah just like this is just how it is every single weekend there is like one
of those it's cool to watch co- a co-ed tournament, I think.
I think so, too.
I guess TST had one.
Maybe they had a—
I think they said last year it technically was co-ed.
Yeah.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
How about last year Newtown wins that thing, meets on that team,
then he comes to our team.
A bunch of the Newtown guys ended up on new teams this year
because they're all like Arena League guys.
So all the Arena League guys
are kind of like the
bells of the ball down there. Heard some things about
that Newtown squad.
Whoa. Jesus.
A little bit of fuckery going on. They were getting booed.
They were getting booed. Yeah, maybe for a good reason.
Well, I mean, who's saying what?
Controversy it is. Yeah, what's the controversy?
I don't want to know. I think there is.
You could sign a bunch of people and then only take 20
because 20 is the roster, and then those people can't play on other teams.
So there was some people, I guess, that were actually signed
and couldn't play somewhere else.
That's good business.
There was a guy who was on the Nani squad who was on Newtown last year,
and they interviewed him before they played,
and he didn't sound too happy about it either.
Yeah.
So people don't make the team?
Could consider, yeah.
Could be considered good business.
Could be considered good business. But I guess there's a lot
of really good players that
weren't able to play and
wanted to play and could have won for a million.
Now they can't. Whatever the case.
It's not easy.
The road to the top of TST is not easy.
No, no.
Feels like Nani might want to transfer, to be honest.
Why?
Because he commented on a video?
I've been liking pretty much every Instagram post of the Concava boys.
I think Nani appreciated the tournament as a whole, so he's just trying to fill the zucker.
He was awesome.
He said this is the best team I've ever been on.
He's having the time of his life.
Guy won a Champions League with Manchester United.
I was going to say, is he not playing in Europe?
He played in Turkey last year.
He's out of contract, so the rule that
he'll probably sign with the team for next year, but
if you're out of contract, you can play. Number 11
I think for Hoosier Army.
He was unbelievable. He's in between contracts.
Then there was a guy who played
for the
Supra team who just got done with
the Turkish League last week or two weeks ago.
Dropped him in.
He'll sign another contract in like a week.
He was so good.
That Supra team was so good.
After we beat them, I literally, we saw them afterwards.
I shaked.
I was like, you guys are so good.
Literally, that's what we were both saying to all of them.
You guys were so good.
I have no idea how we won it because we're just watching that game.
You know, we're not in it.
You watch them.
They had a 30-minute scripted warm-up.
Like, 30 minutes running full speed.
They're working on combinations.
They got shit going on.
Our team's literally just walking on through their workout.
We're getting to the other side.
I'm like, damn, this team seems to be legit.
And then their coach was friends with Tony Miola because they played together
back in the day.
That team, I guess, would travel to different tournaments now,
so they're like a select team from Dallas. It's like we got no fucking shot and then obviously jeffy cameron
i mean what a team the team we beat in the round of 16 they play against each other in dallas so
once we beat them they're like you guys gotta fucking beat that team get them out of there
they were good though so we were literally one two and everybody like you guys are so good and
i think they thought we were shit talkingtalking them because we just beat them.
It was like, that was not the case.
We were very surprised by the outcome of this particular game.
But pumped about it.
And that's Arena League Soccer, baby.
That's right.
All right, let's get the fuck out of here.
We can't thank you enough for allowing us to do this for a living every single day.
We'll be live manana.
AJ, obviously going to a golf tournament.
Go win that thing, AJ.
Good luck, AJ.
Good luck.
AJ.
We'll try.
Have you golfed much?
This will be my first time out.
It's a scramble.
You know how outing things go.
So, yeah.
I'll be swinging hard.
So, you'll be hitting the drive for the team.
Remember, activate that.
I'm going to get that.
Was it the lag?
I need that lag.
Thank you to Tony Fina.
I feel like my game has completely changed, too, now.
I think Tony's a little busy, so he hasn't heard our thanks.
But I will add yours into it whenever I send it.
Show me real quick.
Look at his hips. You're acting those things early.
As you see, it's pulling my...
I'm not moving my... I won't move my arm
down. I won't move my arm.
Watch what happens.
That might be a little
quick. That's a little quick move.
Some people get handsy. Not me, though.
Not me, though.
You're an athlete. You want to get handsy. You're an athlete.
You should be. Time it up.
Yeah. Boom. Then I need to do what
that guy does
on Instagram.
Top golf looking much smaller.
Out of pocket.
He's so good. Right out of pocket.
Out of pocket, yeah.
Take it. Does that mean keep your hands close to your pocket? What do you mean? It's Right out of the pocket. Right out of the pocket, yeah. Take it.
Does that mean keep your hands close to your pocket?
No, it's – What do you mean?
It's coming out of your pocket.
It's like when you throw a football and you finish,
you put your thumb in the pocket.
Yep.
Yeah, you check the watch.
You see.
Hand in the cookie jar on a basketball shot.
We're coming out of the pocket.
You see?
Boom.
Bang.
Inside out.
Good lag.
Ooh, that's a bomb.
That was good lag.
Bomb.
Thank you.
I have tiny feet now.
One face time.
So.
Yeah.
No big deal. Rory's off to a hot start.
What is he?
He's two under through five.
The leader's still at five under.
Here we go.
Married Rory.
That's right.
Married Rory.
If it gets windy, that place might just be impossible.
Bingo.
Just a little bit of a breeze because I saw a guy who went to like four feet
this morning and they're like
nah, can't do that. I'm like
and I just roll right
into the sand trap or whatever. All the way
off, all the way down into the sand trap.
It's like that guy put that thing to four feet from
the pin. Like what a perfect shot.
If I ever hit that shot in my life in real
golf, I would be so
pumped. And then you walk up there and it's in the middle of the fucking sand trap.
It's like, what happened here?
They're talking about you missed by like five yards.
It's over.
Oh, yeah.
That's what Sully said.
They legitimately had to color in the areas of the green in their greens book
just to be like, hey, you can't hit it anywhere but here.
That's wild.
All right.
Let's get the hell out of here.
We can't thank you enough.
We'll be watching U.S. Open.
I assume everybody is.
Oh, where's Scottie at? He
teed off like an hour ago, right? He's got a new haircut.
I know that. He's a new Scottie. Is he doing
all this just so he can say, like, I don't need
any... There's no superstition.
One over, three, four. One over. Okay.
That's nothing. That's nothing. He'll figure it out.
Par is good. Par is good.
Par is good, yes. I don't like 70,
though. Par is a 70. I don't like when that happens.
Yeah, they do that with those pros every once in a while.
I wonder what the cut line will be.
I wonder where they'll be.
Plus 7?
Yeah, somewhere in there.
I mean, if Cantline keeps going, it might be like plus 3.
Normally it's 10 shots from the leader or top.
50, right?
50.
How many are in the U.S. Open?
There's a bunch of people.
I didn't know the leader was a part of it.
I just thought it was this is where the top. Yeah, it's a 4. I thought I didn't know the leader was a part of it. I just thought it was this is where the top.
Yeah, it's a four.
I thought it was just from the leader, but, yeah, that makes more sense.
I think it depends how many ties there are at the cut line.
Oh, got it, got it, got it, got it.
Yeah, I didn't even know that they would take a limited amount into the weekend.
That would make sense, I guess, if everybody sucked in those two different levels.
Scotty Shuffler needs to get back in there.
He will.
He will.
Where's Brooks?
Where's Brooks?
Brooks.
He looks thin.
Brooks looks thin.
Did you see him?
Hot start.
Yeah, I did.
He was doing all right, I feel like.
I think he kind of dropped a couple.
What Tiger finished at?
He's even.
Brooks is even.
Yeah, plus four.
That's not bad.
It's not bad.
They thought that was going to be a runaway.
No, Phil was plus four through two, I think.
Lefty put up a plus niner.
Jeez Louise, Phil.
He's done.
He's coaching now.
He's more of a coach now he's
uh what's his name hanky yeah hank haney hanky hanky he's hank haney now you do one of those
live pro-ams i think like you just get a full let darius yeah debus just gets a full lesson
pretty much every time he goes out with bryson like that was a sweet whole video he had with
bryson like you had to play a full round.
I don't know.
D-Bud, he's smart, man.
D-Bud had a golf book out here he was reading yesterday.
Ben Hogan.
He was reading a golf book.
D-Bud's going to be a scratch golfer in four months from now.
For sure.
I agree.
I agree completely.
With Hal Athletic, how about in that men's league basketball he's fucking?
That's a joke.
Pull up in a guy's face.
Three.
Splash.
Eight of them this game.
See you, sorry. Not even the MVP. There's somebody
better on his team. Athlete. He was just in here
dunking. That's scary. Just dunking in here the other day.
Easy. He's 38. He's not super
tall. No. 6'1".
Yes, yeah. But not like
fairly explosive.
Very explosive.
He's the smoothest athlete
I've ever seen. Like, just smoothest athlete.
That's why I told him he could be a holder.
I'm like, he can figure out how to hold.
Hand's actually too good.
I think I've told you guys this story.
Hands are too soft.
So, like, don't want that because the ball is getting down late.
You know, he would, like, catch it.
Oh, you want some stone hands that, boom, boom, catch it, put it down?
Need a happy medium.
Need a happy medium there.
Need a happy medium there.
But, yeah, your hands are too soft.
Like his wrists were just like too soft.
Like he was just too – yes, no sound being made when he was catching it.
So the ball was late down or whatever.
It's like, of course, this guy's too athletic to hold, of course.
Too good of hands to hold.
That makes sense.
What a stud.
We're lucky to have him around here.
Hell yeah.
Every once in a while, he'll start shooting.
He'll start getting.
Sometimes.
He does mid-range jumpers, too.
Oh, yeah.
He's not just dicking around.
Yeah, he jumps when he shoots.
Yeah, and does the.
Yeah.
Yeah, I can't.
Well, maybe we should start doing that.
No, no, no, no.
You got to find your shot.
That's D-butt shot.
You can't mimic a shot.
Yeah, but D-butt shot is what everybody who's good shooters shoot
like. Luka Doncic.
You're right. I'm more of a Luka Doncic.
Nikola Jokic. I would
bitch at the refs too, especially
in basketball. They could call everything.
Shouldn't have been one for five from three then.
You guys won a championship.
You guys won a championship.
Congratulations.
Can we get the lights to the whole thing?
Let's do the whole song.
Ladies and gentlemen, the 2024 NBA champions, the Boston Celtics.
Yeah!
The first couple times, it's like, now you actually ruined when we win.
Oh, you already did?
We're not going to be here when you win.
It's Friday night.
We can't celebrate it anyway.
Yeah, we're not going to be able to carry it.
It's Friday night.
Friday.
Thanks a lot for winning.
All right.
Be a friend.
Tell a friend something nice that might change their life.
We're in this thing together. Let's never forget it. Team on me. Team on three. One, two, front. Be a friend. Tell a friend something nice that might change their life. We're in this thing together.
Let's never forget it.
Team on me.
Team on three.
One, two, three.
Team.
Goodbye.
