Starting point is 00:02:13 I genuinely was staying out there, when you guys came to Dublin I think that helped massively as well because it showed not just fans but it showed the league that big events, big shows can happen and it can be controlled and that was a great great day at Crack in Dublin but what a day this is for the Steelers, the Rooney family and for the NFL as a whole and I totally agree I think it'll set the standard internationally I think it'll be a party to end all parties. Yeah and I think you know I appreciate you giving us a tiny sliver of crack. I think everybody saw. Yeah, that was a crack.

Starting point is 00:02:46 Everybody's seeing the crack. Crazy crack of a day. The hospitality, how everything's set up too. We live in Indianapolis. Indianapolis is set up to host things. Dublin felt the same exact way. We could walk from everywhere to everywhere. And legitimately, the way the city shut down for Georgia Tech taken on Florida State I can't even fathom what it's gonna be for an NFL game over there and we can't wait to see it the party then all parties I mean AP must be buzzing. You gotta get over man. I was then yeah, we're going for sure, right?

I think one thing is really important as well And it's important to say it you got 32 teams in the league 31 other teams don't have the links to the island or a links to a country like the Rooney family have so for for Don the entire Rooney family and the history that they've had this is such an emotional but an important day for them and I just can't wait to see the standard that they're gonna bring it to because I know already some of the things that they have in plot that they have planned in store it's just gonna be epic guys It's gonna be unbelievable. And the Irish people are a people that will enjoy football.

Starting point is 00:03:49 Like, obviously rugby's huge over there, and soccer's huge over there, and rugby sevens, I think, is gigantic over there. There's a lot of sports over there. But them as a people, and this is not me just, ah, it is, I'm painting with a broad brush here. Irish people will love football if they see it. And do you agree with that? I think the more people that get introduced to the sport in Ireland, the more people with a broad brush here. Irish people will love football if they see it. And do you agree with that?

There is no favorite currently right now at ESPN bet. And that kind of signifies exactly what we've been expressing all week long where we have no idea how this game is going to go. We're having a hard time picking which team is going to win. It's because both teams are great. And it's going to be an awesome.

Starting point is 00:05:30 Chiefs are favored by one still if there is a spread. Chiefs minus one. That's normally an indicator of where the money is potentially for the bet. They'll take it one way or the other. But both being minus 110 means that the sportsbooks have no idea. Yeah, and other books are like even money minus 120 to the Chiefs it feels like that's the way it's going.

Starting point is 00:05:47 More and more Eagles money continues to pour in. 66% of the tickets are in the Eagles, 75% of the money is on the Eagles and all a lot of the big bets coming in are on the Eagles so far. So it there's a chance it might go the other way where Eagles eventually become the quote-unquote favorite but yeah right now it's a pick them. AJ we're talking about this while we're in the creepy Sprinter van. Yep. On the way over here to the convention center. And we all had the same sentiment.

Starting point is 00:06:13 Literally every day I'm waking up with a new thought on who's gonna win again. Yep. I have gone over the, yeah, bingo. Yeah, it's the Chiefs. It's Patrick Bahams It's hard to figure this out. Could you see the Eagles winning by 24 I guess with the way the team is? Perhaps.

So the goal is, well, first of all, I got involved a couple years ago. I got to know Dan Gillison, the CEO, and we talked about doing some of this stuff then. And also Stay Healthy Zone,

Starting point is 00:09:08 which is a partner of mine that I do stuff with. It's a digital wellness company, and they're gonna do digital wellness for Nomni. And Nomni's been around forever. Nomni's been, I think, 48 years, it's probably on there. So- Yeah, I think it's the largest grassroots

Starting point is 00:09:23 mental health organization in the country. And the thing is, is they, I think they want to just make it just awareness, awareness about it. This be smart about your health. And if you know, something comes up, don't be afraid to ask somebody, you know, if you have a problem, ask somebody,

Starting point is 00:09:38 if you asked your friend and a lot of times as men and anybody, we just, you know, we don't do that. And we just get along and try to get along and it's crazy 2025 i don't mean crazy in that way but you get it in 2025 feels like we know a lot more about the brain and like we have a lot more empathy i feel like for people going through stuff than we used to it's been a quick evolution i feel like for society to kind of come around to it don't you agree yeah i agree i agree and it's you know, it's something that's there is not going away and That's why I think Nami is one of the

Starting point is 00:10:11 the place you could turn to and I just talked to Who was it? He's going to be our quarterback. But we need to find a way to just keep him healthy, especially at the end of the year when you have to win games to get into playoffs and

Starting point is 00:12:27 to maybe get home field advantage or just win playoff games. And so that's, I think, really where the focus is gonna be. What do you, Tewiston came out of nowhere there. Yeah, he's hit. We saw him come out of nowhere. Is that, how do we- He's hit. He's still lurking too.

Starting point is 00:13:23 When you look at this Super Bowl and you see Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, obviously, I guess what do both these guys do? What have they done that impresses you? So start with Mahomes. Oh, that's easy. I mean, this is easy because Mahomes may end up being the best quarterback ever. You never know because he's on a run right now and he's just amazing. I don't know if he'll ever get to seven Super Bowls, but if he wins this one, he's already in the Hall of Fame and and what he does is an athlete as far as how he throws the ball from different angles And you know you really can't teach that you know and he has anticipation as everything but now also he's smart because he

Starting point is 00:13:55 He can run but he never gets hurt like from running the ball because he knows where he's in on field his awareness is there And he's just special player specials. Yeah there, and he's just a special player, special player. And then Jalen Hurts has been great too. It's just, he's a different type of player, right? He's a guy that wants to run it a little bit more than Patrick Mahomes, and he's a above average thrower of the football in the pocket, but when he's dangerous is when he gets out of the pocket.

Starting point is 00:14:22 That's when he could make the big plays. So that's basically my scouting report on those two quarterbacks. Can you spin it? Can you still spin it? Oh yeah. Yeah, from here to there. Yeah.

Starting point is 00:14:32 Darn, always. I mean, I throw a little bit, but not. We saw that commercial. You threw the ball into Messi's boat? Yeah. Yeah, that was a rocket. That was a rocket. That thing went about 150 yards.

When people talk to you about like your quickest release and everything like that, your accuracy and then the yards you threw for, there's always like the modern day yards where people like this offense now, the new rules are built for this. It'll be like 2021, 2023 yardage and then fucking Dan Marino's slides. Back in like old school then fucking Dan Marino slide. Yeah. Back in like old school football, Dan Marino's in there for yardage and everything like that.

Starting point is 00:15:11 Obviously you have to have a team buy in for you to play that way, but you have to have an ability for people to debunk how football was then at that time. My old man says that you worked at with your dad every day of your life. Almost like an obsession almost. Yes, with like the trying to work on your release. And the other thing I did, which I tell all young quarterbacks and even kids, high school kids, college kids, is the jump rope.

Starting point is 00:15:34 My dad made me jump rope from the time I was little. Because it keeps you, your mind and your feet on the same rhythm in a small area which a small area is the pocket you know and that was to me he was my dad was a Teamster truck driver I thought that was genius that's genius I'm gonna mess with them. Truck drivers. Something fall off the back of that truck? That's awesome, yeah.

Starting point is 00:16:05 There were some things that fall off the back of the truck. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's gonna happen. My dad was a truck driver as well, so he's had some genius ideas. True at all. I didn't even think about jump rope. That seems genius.

Starting point is 00:16:17 Were we doing this one too? Oh, I could, yeah, I could do that. Oh, wow. You were doing all the shit. Yeah, but now I can't do anything. My legs are gone, but when I was playing, during my years playing, I did that all the time. Miami Dolphins diehard fans. Yes, South Florida kid.

Starting point is 00:16:30 Both parents from Carroll City, so right behind Joe Robbie Stadium. So appreciate everything you did, obviously. What's your thoughts on our, we had the honors last night, NFL honors, two great deserving quarterbacks, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson. What's your thoughts on MVP this year? Well, I think both of them could have won just as easily. Yeah, I mean, Lamar Jackson had a great year. Awesome, but they didn't really advance, you know, and maybe it's because Josh got a little closer, I think,

Starting point is 00:16:57 you know, and he really takes over games too, just like, you know, Lamar does. I just think it was his year because how he was running football in critical situations, you know Lamar does. I just think it's been his year because how he was running the football in critical situations you know the playoff games where he you know came from behind winning those games I mean that those are the kind of times when you look at a guy and say okay yeah you know he's the MVP. Gosh. You know so I mean I would have voted for either one of them. Yeah. And they both deserve it. Do you guys get a vote? XMVP? No. No. They don't care about you they only care about this guy. Yeah. He's just so you guys get a vote? XMVP, you don't do you? No, no, no. They don't care about you.

Starting point is 00:17:25 They only care about this guy. Yeah. He's just so new. He got a vote. Yeah, man. I got to call somebody up. This is bullshit. No, I'm just kidding.

Starting point is 00:17:34 I agree, Dan. I agree. Speaking about Josh, though, there was a lot of talk after this last loss to the Chiefs, another loss to the Chiefs, another loss to Patrick Holmes. People said they were started feeling bad for Josh Allen. Is he ever gonna get the big one? How do you like what is your take on that since you know you you were an unbelievable all-time great quarterback? What's your talk your take on on Josh and getting to the big one? So I think Josh Allen if you talk to him like he's extremely disappointed he'll think about you know losing

Starting point is 00:18:03 that playoff game and having his chance. But also he's you know he he's a tough dude. He's mentally tough. He don't miss games. He's been playing at a high level for five six years now. So he I think he feels like

Starting point is 00:18:17 he'll get back and get over that hump you know. But then the truth of the matter is I went in the second year and I never got back. But I got close just like him a lot of times. So he'll deal with it. But I got close just like him a lot of times. So he'll deal with it, he'll be fine, he'll come out of that.

Starting point is 00:18:29 But he will think about that all off season and there's a lot of times you do that, I did it too. Rest of your life probably. Yeah, some games. Yeah, absolutely. I mean, that's a competitor. That's what high end athletes have to deal with. You just talked about him being mentally tough and not missing a lot of games.

Starting point is 00:18:43 How important is it for the quarterback to be like the toughest dude on your team legitimately as you guys are going to be legit legit tough but also mentally tough you know and then being able to deal with all the other players and making them tough with you and making the players around you better and he does that and you know homes definitely does that but you quarterbacks are kind of you know the guys like your whole life your whole life. Your whole life you guys are crazy like legit even more so now than ever before. Cause the amount of money. When I was young my dad was a truck driver I was held up like you know. No but I'm saying like the quarterbacks though nowadays. Yeah. These kids in high school are getting paid to go to academies.

Starting point is 00:19:22 Yeah. And then in college they're being paid it It's like, our team goes as you go, and these kids are like teenagers getting treated like that. The ability to remain tough in a humble quarterback is going to be difficult. But I think it's a necessity for the position. There's no doubt. Yeah, being humble and being tough, and also with all the money they're

Starting point is 00:19:39 going to get given pretty much while they're going through college, it can make them, like you said, Pittsburgh, it can make them soft a little bit. So you're going to have that guy that's mentally tough. That's going to be able to, it doesn't matter what the money is or what it, you know, all that that I want to play. I want to be the best person I can be for this football team. It's hard to find a, I think you can't, I mean, that's like the most important thing.

Starting point is 00:19:59 I think nowadays when you're finding a guy like, Hey, do you love ball or not? Like I think that is a big deal. Cause like these kids are kids are being set up to be soft you know not their fault. Yeah. Not their fault. Never want to blame them for it. I know. But you get a million dollars when you were 15 or 16. I probably could have yeah I would have taken it. We all would have but can you imagine what you would have became? I mean it's gonna be I mean, it's unbelievable. Connor has a question for you. Yeah. Dan yesterday. Also the hall fame class was announced and obviously you're a hall of famer and there's a lot of discourse. Only four guys went in. No Adam Vinatieri who we all thought obviously first about hall of famer. Yeah. Sounds like you do too, even though he's a kicker and that's kind of the knock on him, even though, you know, he's

Starting point is 00:20:42 one damn near more than anybody. Also no Eli Manning. What do you think's kind of the knock on him even though you know he's one damn near more than anybody also no Eli Manning what do you think about kind of the state of the Hall of Fame right now and what is kind of the standard you would say is to get into the Hall of Fame because it's kind of blurred almost at this point because you know Vinnie and Eli they both have the moments they have the rings but still they're not you know getting in on their first ballot try. Yeah I mean that's that's the difficult thing because like Chris Carter I thought Chris Carter would go in on the first ballot try. Yeah. Starting point is 00:21:07 It took him six years. So I'm not in on the voting and how they vote and what the decisions are made. But I know that we've been having a lot of class. I don't know this for a fact but I know we've been having a lot

Starting point is 00:21:18 of classes with seven people in right for about the last 10 years and then we had one there was 20 people because they were making up from Yeah, right and so maybe they're just kind of you know watered down a little bit and let's not have as many guys But whoever is making that decision is probably on the committee. I'm sure you know see but now there's four this year, right? So that means there's gonna be a backup. Yeah next year and next year's glasses Yeah, like they're talking about Eli.

Starting point is 00:22:48 That's what they're going to try to do. They're going to try to run the football and keep Patrick on the sidelines. That's what I would do if I was the head coach. In Philadelphia, instead of getting field goals, they get touchdowns.

Starting point is 00:23:04 Putting a little more pressure on Patrick know Patrick yeah how do you feel what other angle special teams maybe then might come down special teams Jake Elliott's missed a couple kicks he's obviously Philadelphia Eagles he's been great in the past Buckeye seemingly never misses in big games they go for it a ton the Eagles on fourth down position, those are all. Starting point is 00:24:00 are and he's one of them, you know, he's gonna be in the Hall of Fame for sure eventually He may know with the way it's going. He might not be a first batter But he he's those kind of you know, I know he's he's the kind of player that you know steps up And he might have been injured a little bit or whatever But you know big game steps up all the time and that's what you're gonna love it to be in this situation Yeah, he's a Hooper out there you know, it's kind of the conversation that we had with Fred Warner, who was talking about playing against Travis because they talk about these Travis routes where who knows what's on the actual call sheet for Travis.

Starting point is 00:24:32 So he meant just yeah, they just had like, did you have anybody like that? And yeah, there was a guy. Well, I mean, I felt like Clayton and Duper would do that a little bit if they felt, you know, because we would try to read coverages with them and they would read the coverage. You all have to see the same thing. Same thing. We always talk about it. We'd always talk about it. And then so we had that kind of relationship.

Starting point is 00:24:51 And then Keith Jackson, Keith Jackson was another one that was like that, you know, the tight end from. How come everybody doesn't do that? What is that? Oh, I think they do do it. It's just a matter of the players and your, I guess, not only awareness in space, space of a secondary, but also instincts. So you got to have certain guys have that

I think it is a narrative that's there because you gotta change the narrative if you want someone to stop talking about it. And we haven't done that really. I mean, even when I played,

Starting point is 00:27:35 we'd always try to get home field advantage and so you don't have to go to Buffalo or you don't have to go to Pittsburgh or Kansas City when it's below zero because we're not used to playing in that stuff. Starting point is 00:32:21 Like obviously not turn the ball over all of that sake like but the sake one have to have a monster day does Jalen hurts have to be like what has to happen yeah Spags is gonna try to stop say yeah yeah you got it right that's the number one thing Spags will take them away he'll use some of his blitz packages to kind of you know confuse the run game he's got the run blitzes and then probably crowd the line of scrimmage for the passing game and make Jalen's eyes come down but I think the biggest thing for Philly you know playing against my homes is you got to defend the first play not the second play.

Starting point is 00:32:47 Don't let them out, don't let them create you know Kansas City is just when you really look at them and why you know so many people are like how are these guys winning they're just winning in a different way. You know the early turnovers in the game they just overcome them but when you take a look at third down their tops in the league when you take a look at the two minute drives and the commonest that you know they go down just methodically score you know those are the areas you really got to focus on if you want to stop them So I think they would do a good job on third down I think that can shorten some of the drives that they have and then those situational plays will come up big

Starting point is 00:33:14 D bud has the last question for those gotta have it moment flavor the week I feel like Philly and especially when you get in the rear there You never know what they're gonna pull out of their ass. What is it like preparing for? KC in that red area compared, I guess, to the rest of the league? Yeah, you know, and Andy Reid obviously does a great job down there. And his staff, they've got that really cool kind of Friday collaboration they do where they get those special plays that they look up and, you know, get that buy-in. But, you know, Andy coming from that West Coast background, you know,

Starting point is 00:33:40 we're always talking about defensively flat to the left, offensively flat to the right. But the thing that Patrick Mahomes has done is he's been able to flip all that. So now you've got those two kind of flats either side you're trying to defend in the got to have it situations. So that makes it really difficult. But again, the extended plays or even just let Patrick run, you can't do that. You got to make sure you keep him in and you got to get Kelsey. He's going to be the guy.

And when did you decide you're gonna just start buying up these sports conglomerates? Because I think in the entertainment world, you entertainment suits kind of stay in your world and then the sports suits kind of stay in their world. It feels like you have legitimately purposefully tried to get into the sports world.

Starting point is 00:37:39 And I think it's cause you're a sports fan. Love sports. I think that is a real deal. No, but I saw kind of what was going on in that you had the streamers, you had where cable and where the broadcast business was. And if they wanted to get in the advertising business, the only way to really do it in a significant way was being in the sports business. And so we, it's just part of the ecosystem of entertainment sports.

Starting point is 00:38:02 And so we moved into sports also. And you enjoy your time in sports thus far? What have you learned about the business of sport maybe that's different than the entertainment business? More money. In the sports world? Yeah. A lot more.

Starting point is 00:38:15 I think you found a pretty good amount of money in your world. You could in, you know, we make a lot of money, used to make a lot of money in the television and movie business by packaging stuff. Packaging TV shows, the economics were different, and the movie business. When we moved into the sports world, we could own the asset as opposed to representing the asset. And so when you own an asset, you get all the money.

Starting point is 00:38:41 That's pretty nice. Hell yeah. And that's better. That's pretty nice. Hell yeah. And that's better. Yeah, yeah. That's more. That sound business as you are going to go down is, I think greatest business. You're going to be the greatest businessman of all time?

Starting point is 00:40:13 Nick Khan has to call me now. Nick Khan is president WWE, so he has to call people for him now, cuz he has it. So Nick calls me, he goes, hey, yep, you got to go meet Ari Emanuel Super Bowl week. This was last year. Super Bowl week last year. Is that when we met? I believe. Vegas, yes.

Starting point is 00:40:30 Wow. I believe it was last year. And Nick's like, hey, Ari Emanuel wants to meet you. When's that possible? And I'm like, I'm leaving on Friday. They're like, well, we'll do it on Friday then. It's like perfect. And I just started thinking, I think I tell the boys, I'm like, I'm going to meet Ari

Then I walk into that room and you're sitting there and then you start talking and it's like I've been waiting for somebody to give Vince for the Mentos commercial. Starting point is 00:43:03 That's an easy thing to do. AJ has a question for you, Ari. Yeah, it seems like you do everything. You own everything. Is there anything that you could tell us that you want to get into that maybe you haven't dipped your toe into yet in the business world, sports, whatever it may be?

Starting point is 00:43:15 Well, we're starting to talk about boxing. OK. And so we're going to. With Dana? Dana's been trying. He's been talking about doing boxing for a long time, right? We're kind of looking at that right now and can you revive boxing? Like is but where is boxing right now?

Starting point is 00:43:28 I guess compared to maybe 20 years ago. Well, I think he got the Ali act that I think hurt it. Hopefully, who knows what's going to happen with the Ali act. And then Dana's got a plan for boxing. We'll see. You know, there's a lot of work, a lot of wood that's got to be chopped there. But we're looking at it pretty seriously. Hey, that's a that would work, a lot of wood that's gotta be chopped there, but we're looking at it pretty seriously. Hey, that would make sense with the TKO group.

Starting point is 00:43:47 Obviously. Wrestling, fighting, boxing in there. And I don't know, how much is there a collaboration between those two companies with you, or are they just operating? The back office, we saved a lot of money and kind of got more efficient. There has been UFC fighters, as we know,

Starting point is 00:44:05 that have gone to the WWE. Definitely. And there's been some WWE people that have fought in the... But that's not, that's not the norm. How about business-wise, though? Like, Nick, Dana... Well, when we go out and, you know, we make, um, sponsorship deals or site fees in different countries and different states, all that stuff, yes.

Starting point is 00:44:23 Okay, because the boxing world, Nick Khan con the president of w two b u e s obviously uh... i think you grew up in vegas yes loves being started yeah like he loves bonds in a day in a does to write out that they have started out boxing being that could be like a real passion project plus something that they've been sported by his question for you are about to tell the w w e heard some of the goes to negotiation stories about that.

Starting point is 00:44:46 But how has the Netflix era been so far as early on? But any surprises, anything surprising, or how has it been so far? They're incredible partners. Bella there has been incredible. Ted Sarandos have been incredible. Show's performing. So we are thrilled.

Starting point is 00:45:02 And I think they're happy. The numbers are up really good. So all good. How's that go? How do you end up with Netflix? Because I assume there's other streaming platforms just like any NFL. Prime's getting involved in this entire thing. We assume it's only a matter of time for Google and maybe does a little bit more with YouTube.

Starting point is 00:47:21 NBA made it a deal. We started it making a broadcast streaming, linear deal plus streaming. And I think that will be kind of the norm of it all. But the original premise in 95 was there's gonna be a significant amount of distribution and content is gonna be limited. The things that create content, you guys, NFL, the

Starting point is 00:47:46 NBA, us, therefore the value of those things are gonna be more valuable with infinite, it's just supply and demand and that I think it bodes well for people that create content. UFC, WWE, bull riding, all the things that we're doing, boxing, etc. So I'm feeling good. Yeah it's content. You guys should be feeling good. We are. Oh yeah. Yeah, don't you worry about that buddy. You get that five billion dollar deal done with the Netflix and it's like, well WWE just did a five billion dollar deal, the NFL just did at least a billion dollar deal. Starting point is 00:48:32 Connor has a question for you. Speaking of sports and you mentioned the NBA there. Why do you think kind of the NBA and then the NHL MLB is kind of a different story, but those two in particular haven't seen like the growth and success that the NFL has over the past you mean on ratings or I'm yeah I'm ratings just on ratings because the NBA on digital like we talked about all the time. We hope it's it's you have 82 games and so What's important, you know kind of in that series and I think Adam did a great job with the early playoff Concept that he had. Yeah.

Starting point is 00:49:08 You have 164 games in baseball, go Cubs. You know, so I think that's the hard part of it. But there, you know, I think once people get comfortable and you know, you also had the local stations, the RSN, once the Fox deal has problems, so they're cleaning that up. And the local markets, it's very good. Are they gonna go direct the teams or not? So, you gotta look at the aggregate of the rating system,

Starting point is 00:49:34 not just the national numbers. Yeah. How about the NBA? Let's expand on that a little bit. Luka Donchik is now a Laker. Yes. Yeah, you love the Lakers. Even in Entourage.

But Lucas 25, the future of the league, and he somehow just gets traded to Los Angeles. And then they get Mark Williams after that with a, I mean, unbelievable. So you're very pumped as a Lakers fan. What about for the NBA as a whole? I think it's great. I think, you know, everybody was nervous about the trade deadline. You can't make any moves. This trade deadline was insane. Like everybody was flying around, rumors all the time.

Starting point is 00:51:09 Everybody was paying attention to it. I think it's incredible for the sport. Kevin Durant, allegedly not happy. Not happy. Not happy about his name. Only the Bulls traded to get their pick back that they traded. Yeah.

Starting point is 01:06:26 Now, there's a lot of conversation, obviously, because Lamar Jackson was first team All-Pro quarterback. So everybody assumed, I think, since 1987, basically, in this particular situation, anybody that's been voted first team All-Pro or something like that wins the MVP. John Elway, I think. I was reading the stat.

Starting point is 01:06:44 I think John Elway was the last time, yeah, that had happened or whatever, that TV's so far away, there's no way I could read that, but I do appreciate you making me smarter, Foxy. Elway MVP, Montana first team all-pro. And that was 1987, yes. Yeah, and I think it did happen again with Peyton and McNair. Okay, so this has happened in the past,

Starting point is 01:07:00 mostly because they're saying that it's a statistical award being first team all-pro, where the MVP is value of player to team. And I think that was Dan Orlovsky's argument this morning. It was also the conversation all year with the guy who has the AP vote for our particular program, which people in the AP were not happy about us getting a vote. No, they were not.

Starting point is 01:07:21 But now the whole world basically knows who all has votes. Fascinating. I wonder if there was an uproar amongst other decisions that were made. But you guys were voting for Most Valuable Player. We saw your entry form and you had Josh Allen as MVP. Why was that the case and how do you think the awards went last night? Yeah, I mean, I think I was shocked that Josh Allen won the MVP, even though I voted for him as MVP because of how the AP went. I also had Josh Allen as my first team quarterback in the All-Pro, so I was not one of the voters that decided to put Lamar as first team All-Pro and then vote for Josh as MVP.

Starting point is 01:08:00 You know, it's not a statistical award. The MVP is not. We learned that last year when Dak had the best statistics in the league for quarterback and Lamar won because Lamar was Lamar season last year was the most valuable season, even though his statistics were not the best. And then I thought this year is my first year voting. You know, we had a lot of talk at the beginning of season that the Bills window was closed. They were done.

Starting point is 01:08:23 They lost. They lost their receivers. They lost their their safeties. They lost other guys off the defense. The window was closed for the Bills window was closed. I had Lamar as my offensive player of the year because the year he had was historic as well. So I didn't want Lamar to be left out completely because of the season he had was unbelievable. But I just thought Josh did more with less. Josh had 40 total touchdowns.

Starting point is 01:08:58 Lamar had 45. So I mean, yes, statistically Lamar was a little bit better. But I just thought Josh did more with less. I thought he was the more valuable player in my eyes. OK, I think that's an OK vote. Yeah. I think that's an OK vote. If we look at your ballot, you actually, I think,

Okay, tell me about the state and why it's such a good hosting place. And what is New Orleans going to show the world here this weekend? Starting point is 01:12:57 I don't get to just listen. I just enjoyed it. I did not get to do what many fans get to do and just sit here and watch a show like I would love to because we got so many things. So thank you all for entertaining me for a little while my wife will absolutely love that look I can tell you what we have worked on was to make sure that the city Was ready to welcome the world because quite frankly when you have a Super Bowl you welcome the world It is a it is a greatest show on earth

Starting point is 01:13:23 It is the most watched show. It is where everybody comes to be entertained. And this is the greatest city to be able to do that. And of course, we started last year. I mean, you got to think about it. We started working towards making sure that we were going to put on an unbelievable event. And then we had the tragedy, right? That happened on New Year's morning. I mean, it's unbelievable. It just shook the city. But I think that I don't think that there is a city, Pat, I'll tell you this, I don't think that there is a city that is capable of being able to lift those up, lift the victims and their families

Starting point is 01:13:53 and those that were injured, and then at the same time, send a message that guess what? This is a city of entertainment and this is what America's about, and that's what we said we were gonna do and that's what we're doing. Yeah, you take a swing, but we're gonna fight back. That's right. Oh, yeah.

Starting point is 01:14:07 You knock us down, and we're coming right back up. Yes. And that's the story of New Orleans. I think we've been hearing from a lot of people is, and that's the feeling we had. Drew Brees talked to us yesterday about how, because of everything that happens here, there's like a real gratitude of life. There's like a real appreciation of life.

Starting point is 01:14:23 And you can feel that from the people. I agree. Yeah. Security included. I mean we've got chance to meet a lot of your state troopers and they look really cool. They look great. I don't know if they're on camera or not. The blues are a great group. But even walking through the city, the people working at the restaurants, it's like there's just a vibe amongst the people here. And I got to experience it at LSU. Yes. Yeah. When we came down for college game day. Oh, we love y'all. The vibe was insane. It's just like a Louisiana feel. Well, we love people. We love people. Look, hospitality may have been invented in the South,

Starting point is 01:14:54 but I say it was perfected in Louisiana. Like we love y'all. We really do. We just love people. We love to watch people have a good time. We like you to leave the restaurants where you're feeling so bad. I gotta walk three or four more blocks. Yeah. If you're leaving, your pants still fit, you know, the waist. That means we did a bad job. It felt like that last night. Yeah, it felt like that last night. AJ has a question for you, Governor. Governor, when you talk to other governors, you ever ask them, hey, when you guys get in office, why do you turn into robots that are not relatable? You're like such a relatable, good human, which it's got to be very difficult in your position, but why

Starting point is 01:15:26 is it where some people get that in that spot and it's almost like, hey, I don't understand who this is anymore? I don't know, I just think for a long time people just, you know, you get into the office and you let the office become you and you forget that you got into the office because there are people out there that put you in that office and if you stay with the people who put you in the office and you just be a regular, be who you are, right? if you're good enough to be able to get 51 percent of the people to be able to vote for you then you should stay that way and that's how I am you know I just grew up just a little country boy in a great state that really has great things

Starting point is 01:15:57 to offer and so again I don't know I just. The way we learned of you. Yeah. You wanted that tiger on the sideline. you. Yeah, I was you wanted that tiger Surprise just stay tuned we're gonna make colleges We talk about that tiger because there was full conversation that was happening about like Should we talk about it? Cuz there's people that aren't happy about it But then there was people that were very talk about it? Cause there's people that aren't happy about it. Starting point is 01:16:25 And then obviously all roads were leading back to you. That was, they were like, governor Jeff Lange is going to have a tiger on that sideline. That's how this is going to go. Why was that so important to you? And what do you think kind of about how it all went down? Well, look, I'll tell you this, you know,

Starting point is 01:16:40 you talk about governors, there's a great governor, great governor, Jim Pillar from Nebraska. He played football for Nebraska. He was a defensive back in the late 70s, early 80s. And about four months before, five months before, we were talking about putting the tag on, I ran into Jim. And he's telling me, he says, you know, all the years I played in Nebraska, he said my most memorable game was as a freshman going

Starting point is 01:17:05 down to Tiger Stadium. He said they would park the cat outside of the visitors locker room. He said, I know they'd poke that animal, it'd be growling. It's the most intimidating thing. He's telling us that. I mean, it went on. I was a child back then, right? I mean, Nebraska.

Starting point is 01:17:22 You remember Nebraska? Oh yeah. Are you kidding me? Maybe not you. remember Nebraska? Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Are you kidding me? Maybe not you, you weren't born yet. I remember, I'm black sheep. I'm black sheep. All right, we know, we know.

Starting point is 01:17:29 But so Jim's telling me this, and he's like, it's the most unbelievable thing. He said, and as a child, I remember, you put the cheerleaders on top of the cage, and they'd roll the tiger around the stadium, everybody would go wonderful. I mean, it just became like his family event. And in some kind of way,

Starting point is 01:17:48 we felt like we couldn't do that anymore. And I mean, it's just ridiculous. And so I said, you know what? We're gonna bring that back. And so, you know, Alabama has got just a terrible, we don't have a good record against Alabama in Tiger Stadium. I think they're like 22 and 4 against LSU and Death Valley,

Starting point is 01:18:06 but I'm 1 and 0 against PETA and so I'll take that. Yes, yes, yes. They weren't coming after you. And there's zoos that have Tigers and I see the, the sanctuary, the sanctuary that's down there for the tiger. Five million dollars. Five million. Yeah, that's what he's saying. We're taking care of this tiger. We are.

Starting point is 01:18:31 Look, I tell you this. We brought this tiger in. This lady, this lady, we got this tiger in. She would get in the cage. This cat was like, it was like a big house cat to her. And then, you know, I'm all nervous. We got all the pressure y'all put on me. We get the tiger into the stadium.

Starting point is 01:18:48 We were never. I was doing journalism. We get the tiger into the stadium, and he's just laying there. And I said, they're going to think I drugged that cat, which is completely against the law. We never do. Of course, of course.

Starting point is 01:18:57 That tiger, he loved being there. You know what the problem was? They didn't leave him there long enough. That was my opinion. Agreed. I think you should have left him there long. He was having such a great time. We wanted to beg him to get up, you know?

Starting point is 01:19:06 Okay, so we're saying, what it sounds like is that Tiger's probably coming back to the sideline. I'm just saying, I think a lot of people out there that realize that it's really not a big thing and that everybody likes to get out. I mean, how would you like me to just keep you in your house and never let you out? I wouldn't like that.

Starting point is 01:19:23 Me neither. That sucks. I'm just not built for that. You know? So yeah, look. And Colorado has a buffalo, longhorns. I mean, yeah. We just got the tigers. You're taking care of the tigers.

But what the Eagles have to prepare for is the matchups that they're gonna create with number 95, because Chris Jones plays all over the front line. And I know Spags does an excellent job of stopping the run,

Starting point is 01:32:03 but his main focus is stop Saquon and make Jalen Hurts carry the football. If Jalen Hurts has to have over 20 carries this game I think Kansas City will pull off. If Jalen Hurts in their RPO game is able to suck Spagnoli's defense in but would force them to give and have different things off that so they can attack the perimeter because I think the Eagles have really worn on the perimeter opposed to just running straight up the middle even when you see Saquon's long run he's making a cut and he's bouncing out to the outside and getting vertical after that so if they if the Eagles can win

Starting point is 01:32:33 vertical they'll win a game if Kansas City can stop the Eagles from vertical I'm not even gonna go there from vertically penetrating them penetrating them in the running game. Sucking out there vertically penetrating them. In the running game. Shuck them off and penetrate. It's the best both words for me. I love both of these quarterbacks. I love both of these head coaches. I love both of these teams. I think Vic Vangelo's defense is very simple.

Starting point is 01:32:55 They're going to populate people around everybody because they play mass zone coverage. I think that's tough for Kelsey who has an amazing ability to get open. But one thing about his defense, bunches and stacks expose them because they make a sky call when defenders are just going to zone spacing. And that allows Travis Kelsey just to get open. To work underneath. Yes. Okay, so whenever they talk about spags,

Starting point is 01:33:15 they say he brings it a lot. He does. Is there blitzes now? How many years have you been in the league? I've been in the league 10 years. Okay, that's a long-ass time. Starting point is 01:33:25 Okay, the amount of blitzes. What is the hardest thing to, is it the disguises? Is it picking, guessing? Can you normally figure out a blitz? What is the thought of a quarterback whenever a blitz is out? One of the top things in the quarterback is like, what is my protection area that is like at stake? And when you have a protection problem, you have to start with who is their most dominant

Starting point is 01:33:42 defensive lineman. And for Kansas City, it's Chris Jones. But you can't base your protection just on him because he moves all over the field. And we had a study with Cleveland Browns, like typically Kansas City is bringing 90% of their pressures away from Chris Jones because they want to show you Chris Jones being on this side. They want to bring the pressure opposite. Once we played them, obviously, defense, they do self-scout as well.

Starting point is 01:34:04 They brought all their pressures to Chris Jones' side. So yes, it is deceptiveness. It is the disguise, but it's the way that his safeties work. Josh Cook and, is it Eric, not Eric Reed, Justin Reed, they work so well together. They're not as great as ball hawking safeties, but they do a good job of getting their depth and playing downhill to help their corners out and they got one corner that's a solid corner is one of the top corners is Lee and Trent Matt Duffy so their zone pressures when they are in man he typically lost somebody up so I'm gonna be curious to see the one-on-one matchup between him and AJ Brown and Davonta Smith. DeBuch has a question for you. I mean, outstanding, phenomenal answers for us.

Starting point is 01:34:41 Hey, that's really good football. Hey guys, that's really good football. That's a prayer's answer right there. Outstanding phenomenal answers. Yes That's a prayers answer right there But you talked about you know been in the league ten years You also said earlier in the conversation about excepted different roles You've been in so many different positions been a number one pick You know having the keys handed to you for the benefit of the franchise and then at some point your career being backup quarterback How was that? mindset change for you not only on the field but, but as the player in the locker room?

Starting point is 01:35:08 Because you still are a huge personality at people. I feel like look up to it in leadership role. Well, I've always focused on the servant leadership part of the quarterback position and leadership in general, because people can get led in different ways. Some people you can really hold them accountable, be firm with them. Some people you got to baby them, for the most part, so I always just focus on that aspect.

Starting point is 01:35:27 But when I was a starter, a firm starter, when I was young, the face of the franchise of the Buccaneers, my sole focus was to get people to like me, you know what I'm saying? I wanted to be a people pleaser, you know, I wanna make everybody happy. But when I got to New Orleans Saints after Tom Brady led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, same team that I was on, to the Super Bowl, I had to make everybody happy. But when I got to New Orleans Saints after Tom Brady led the Tampa Bay Buckeye, the same team that I was on to the Super Bowl, I had to understand, man,

Starting point is 01:35:50 everybody don't got to like you. You just got to win games. And that's one thing that Sean Payne taught me in New Orleans. But seeing Drew Brees and Sean Payne have the continuity to really put a plan together to argue about certain things, but at the end of the day, come up with something like, how can we best win this game? Not, Jamis, are you going to throw for 400 yards and five

Starting point is 01:36:10 touchdowns to win the game for us? But is the special teams going to win this game for us? Is the defense going to have to get a big turnover for us? Like, what is required for us to win every game individually? And I think that's how I grew in terms of knowing the quarterback position But in terms of service, I've always wanted to serve my players to the best of my abilities So when I became that backup quarterback per se because that was my role I wanted to ensure like just like specialist like specialists and quarterbacks are on the same team because only one of us

Starting point is 01:36:39 Out there. Yeah, it's only one of us out there So we have to exert all of our energy to helping that one person Be his best and that's why I'm still Cleveland Browns was so So peaceful for me because this was the first time that I was able to be the veteran in a room Like even when I had to back up their card Derek still was the veteran like, you know, yeah Yeah one year over me, but I was it was nothing I can really can teach him I just was there to serve him. But Deshaun, DTR, Bailey Zapp, late in the year, Tyler Huntley with his resurgence with Miami, I was able to actually speak into their lives and give them little tools in the game. You know how

Starting point is 01:37:15 it is. So you enjoyed it. You enjoyed the transition because whenever we were with Andrew Luck, Matt Hasselbeck was the backup that got brought in and he said he had to have a conversation with himself like hey Alright, my time's up. I can give back here with this guy or I can be a guy who still tries to get a starting role Somewhere starting quarterback somewhere and he said he He came at peace or whatever with being Andrew Luck's backup and everything like that Have you had to have that conversation because Because you said backup role was there. Or do you think you still have starting football? I know I'm one of the best.

Starting point is 01:37:48 Because I think you played. I think you played starting football. I know I'm one of the best 32 quarterbacks in this world. OK. And no one can take that away from me. But I do whatever's required. And what I want for myself, I want for everyone. So when someone else is in that role,

Starting point is 01:38:01 like late in the season when Kevin Stefanski turned it over to Dorian Thomas Thompson Robinson, like, late in the season when Kevin Stefanski turned it over to Dorian Thomas, Thompson Robinson. Man, I'm his biggest fan, because I know the importance of week to week. I just want to win. That's all I want. It's not the stardom, it's not the fame. So anyway I can help, you know, I can serve anything I could do to play more consistently to win. I'm gonna do that. Yeah Yes, go James Connor has a question for you. Yeah, James So you kind of let us in prayer there and you talked about the game on the field

Starting point is 01:38:37 But what do you think the pregame speeches from these coaches is gonna be? What do you think the message is to their teams? Cuz obviously the Chiefs are talked about with the refs and everything. And then the Eagles have, you know, they're kind of playing spoiler and all the pressures on them. What do you think the coaches are going to be saying to their team?

Starting point is 01:38:52 Well, I think any time you have the biggest event of it all, you want to silence the noise and focus on playing your best game. So the coaches are telling them, like, hey, guys, let's focus on being our very best for this last game like we don't have enough game this year so why not show up right here right now in the biggest moment of them all with all everybody watching you and play the best version of yourself today. Hell yeah I like that. Hey those moments that they started catching with you when you were

Starting point is 01:39:22 running this year it's not about the, it's not about the cameras. Not about the access, actually it is. It was such a moment. I mean, it's crazy. And we're looking forward to it. We're in rehearsals right now. We are creating content as we speak,

And I'm going back and forth all night but in suicides whatever they call it yeah like but in sphere it's gonna be a smaller version of it but yeah I've got my space okay and we'll see we're we're in rehearsals like I said now but we won't really know till we get in there yeah you know so that's gonna be sometime in May when we can start rehearsals I can't wait for the experience. Yes. Yeah, you know you said a different stream of consciousness I've only been in this fear in one particular consciousness

Starting point is 01:46:33 And I think for your concert, it's gonna be the right one So I can't wait to experience it. We're looking forward to it. D. We were in there, we had an experience, we won't say what performer or performers it was, but some of the guys were disappointed with some of the songs that they played with the catalog you have of so many bangers. How do you pick what's going to be on the track list in what city or what performance? Well, I think that you can ask anybody in my Road family. We're not a big believer. We will do some songs just because of the space that we don't normally do like in a stadium environment

Starting point is 01:47:06 Just because of the way it's built and we can it's more of an experience than it is an energy thing But that being said I've never been one to do a bunch of deep cuts because when you start doing deep cuts Thank you. Yeah. And I had my team with me and I went I looked at them and I went

Starting point is 01:49:00 there's no way we're not not doing this. Yeah. I mean because it was just so different for me. Yeah. You know and I've been doing it a minute and I went, there's no way we're not not doing this. Yeah, yeah. I mean, because it was just so different for me. Yeah. You know, and I've been doing it a minute and I wanted to take my audience and my friends and people that I know and love on a journey with me. Starting point is 01:49:17 we're gonna play a long time. We've been blessed with a pretty big catalog and we're gonna play for a while. We're gonna do a lot of songs that people know. Yeah. A few that they don't, but we're gonna do a few deep cuts, but not a lot. Yeah, but whenever you put out new albums, you create new bangers.

But so to write a book and then have to read all the chapters and it's really, it's really interesting. Yeah. Well, congratulations. It's a massive decision. So a lot of people will find inspiration and I assume people will be able to get some knowledge. You know, I was a kid in East Tennessee that grew up in the country that loved Tennessee football and that's all we had and I had a big dream in my head

And if there's some kid out there in the world that could learn something from my journey, this is one of the reasons I wanted to write the book. Hell yeah. In the music world, have you thought about this at all

Starting point is 01:55:48 and what are your thoughts on it as a whole? Well, I think it's a big change, right? It's a big change and I think it's a slippery slope, honestly. But I'm a creative person. If I didn't write my own songs, I might have... I don't write all of my own songs, but if I wasn't a creative person, I might feel differently, but for someone that's really creative

Starting point is 01:56:07 and has been that way his whole adult life, it bothers me a little. Because it might hinder it a little bit. Because it's just, yeah. It might go in the direction of what the AI is pointing you. Right, I don't know. I just think it's a very slippery slope, and I don't know.

Starting point is 01:56:24 I don't have an opinion yet. But I know that it's, if you're creative and you've been doing it a certain way for a long time, it's, I don't know, it just takes the creativeness out of it for me. Okay, I got it. That's the only negative thing for me. Now you have a Hall of Fame career

Starting point is 01:56:43 that is already behind you, and I assume you're only gonna continue to make bangers, but there's people that's only negative thing for me now you have a hall of fame career that is already behind you and I assume You're only gonna continue to make bangers, but like there's people that are only gonna be in the AI music Yeah, yeah the whole thing. Like you have to cut your teeth in Nashville Yeah Do you feel like it's necessary to go to Nashville and then kind of go from there, or do you think that's changed as well?

Starting point is 01:57:06 I mean, if you're creative, the Nashville that I moved to is a very wonderful, beautiful, creative space. And so that's why it was great for me. Now, if you don't write songs, I mean, I do feel like that you have to work. I mean, this idea that you're just gonna make it because you feel entitled to is not right.

So it's all, it's, yeah, the genre's there and there are different genres, but people

They would secure the number one seed in the AFC two weeks before the season had ended. They had the best record in football and all anybody kept saying about them all season long was that they were playing. Like hammered dog shit? They said this offense is nowhere near what it could be they look like they're playing like absolute

Starting point is 02:18:30 shite the defense yeah they're keeping them in the games but there's no way this team is anywhere near as good as last year's team or the year before that this is the Kansas City Chiefs team that isn't gonna win because this team although they're winning and beating everybody, they're actually... Starting point is 02:44:41 And as I'm kind of just looking to Sunday, I see Bradley Cooper slinging Philly cheesesteaks on that field to everybody, every player, who just dumped Gatorade on to coach Nick Sirianni, who isn't a big dumb dipshit, who's a genius, who's kind of the future. And history's, you know, it was right on the line, three peak, they are the villains. But that being said, when you root for four teams, and one of them make it,
