Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello, beautiful people, and welcome to our humble abode, the Thunderdome. On this big crown overreaction Monday, June 15, 2006, this program begins now. Sports! We are the absolute greatest, and we can't thank you all enough for allowing us to be a tiny little part of the sports universe that has been so damn dominant from, I would say, day one of the year till day 365. Sports are swinging a hot bat, and we're not even going to talk about professional bats, We'll certainly talk about some college bats because the college world series has been electrifying. Now, I can't wear my Jordan shoes today because of what UNC did to the West Virginia
Starting point is 00:00:38 Mountaineers just yesterday. But I will say out there in Omaha, they have a baseball tournament taking place and it has been electrifying. We'll have to talk about that. But let's chat about the other sports that have crowned their new kings. Shout to the NBA, the New York Knicks have won their first title in 53 years. Wow. Hats off. Congratulations to Jalen Brunson and the boys for being able to bring a title to the city that needed some unity, not that any city doesn't, but New York City coming together to celebrate the hell out of what this New York Knicks team has accomplished is certainly beautiful. The crowd reactions outrageous, the vibes immaculate. The parade is on Thursday. And remember, their mayor is Muslim. Their bagels are Jewish.
Starting point is 00:01:17 Their Christians, Dior. Knicks took five to go ahead and win that entire thing. And now we shall see maybe the biggest parade in the history of sports. The biggest city in the United States of America all rallied around one team celebrating one championship. Is it about to be absurd in Manhattan on Thursday? Absolutely. That happens this weekend. Oh, does the NHL decide to crown their champions this past weekend as well? Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:40 Congrats to the Carolina Hurricanes! Unreal. Winning Lord Stanley Cup first time in 20 years, Jordan Stahl, a 37-year-old, becomes the oldest Kahn-Smith, Finals MVP, award winner in the history of the Stanley Cup, which has been around since way before they had black and white televisions. talking about old guard, old sport, old trophy, oldest man to ever hoist that title. Congratulations to Jordan Stahl. Rod Brindamore, who's the coach of Carolina Hurricanes. He is now won a Stanley Cup for the Carolina Hurricanes as a captain player and now as a head coach
Starting point is 00:02:13 who's still absolutely shredded. And when you give me Lordo, I'll be comfortable with it. Let me go ahead and hoist that earlier in the day. He had it and he flipped it sideways. Let me go ahead. Yeah, I've been here before. Yeah. Yo, it's like the old days, Lordo.
Starting point is 00:02:28 You remember me? I think he even put his legs around. You remember when we did this way back when? You know, because Lordo will travel to everybody you see in frame right there at least once this off season. Lord Stanley Cup, different than all the other trophies. It does get paraded around and celebrated, but it actually travels to people's homes. With the two handlers of the Cup, which are on the outside there, you see. You got the commissioner there, Gary Bettman.
Starting point is 00:02:49 He obviously matters. Lord Stanley Cup matters. Kahn Smythe Award winner matter. And then the two on the outside, those are the handside. of the cup. That's right. Those two men right there are never going to be without vision on that Stanley Cup, no matter where it is. Could be an adult ballet. Yeah. Yes. Could be at a six-year-old birthday party. Yeah. Could be at an ice cream shop eating so many cookies and cream ice cream on the top of that. Or could be at the bottom of a keg in a backyard in somewhere Halifax, Canada.
Starting point is 00:03:17 That trophy will celebrate alongside the team that earned it, which is the Carolina Hurricanes. And when you talk about those two champions, the Hurricanes and the Knicks, you're talking about, talking about a dominant playoff run. Almost saw it early for both teams. We thought the West in hockey was gonna have a little bit more hope. We thought the West in basketball was gonna have a little bit more hope.
Starting point is 00:03:34 But instead, the Eastern Conference, the Eastern part of the United States of America, win the NBA and the NHL over the weekend. Congrats to both crowned kings. Oh yeah. Let's not even get started about soccer winning on Friday night. Man.
Starting point is 00:03:49 Oh, he happened to be there out of SoFi. Had a sports fan dream Friday. Was in Omaha. Watch West Virginia. beat Troy. Troy would go on to beat Ole Miss. Now West Virginia's got Troy tomorrow in an elimination game to see who's going to have to take on Big Bad UNC. Yeah. I fear they're very good at baseball. Good program. Yeah. They got a kid with glasses, McDuffie. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:13 I didn't know you're allowed to this. I mean, the ball was moving the entire length of of home plate. I mean, it was his glasses. They've got the AI now that does stuff in the I'd like his glasses to be checked. And don't tell me that old ass, I'm has any idea what AI could be in these guys' glasses. I think this guy might have actual laser on the ball from his glasses, throws it out there, glasses catch it, break it off. West Virginia couldn't hit shit,
Starting point is 00:04:35 and then in the field, somehow, we couldn't field the ball either, so maybe McDuffie's glasses were doing something out there, and then they pull McDuffie. I think there's one out left, or only one out, two outs left in the bottom of the ninth, or top of the ninth, where the West Virginia Mountaineers were. And I thought,
Starting point is 00:04:49 what a true freshman, these guys are idiots. This guy's guy's going, 97, hum, hum, hum, UNC walks out, moves on. West Virginia has to battle Troy. That team's unbelievable. Eric Church was there. I didn't like that he potentially didn't ask anything about McDuffie with those gladys as well. I might have had another UNC alumni texting me throughout that game.
Starting point is 00:05:11 I will be making a rather substantial donation to his foundation. I think Drake May had a good time last night if I had to guess. But West Virginia, obviously, Omaha on Friday, 2 o'clock, first pitch. We watch that game. Actually get to sing country roads and parking lot as we're heading out of there. Hop on bird, very lucky to be living this life, not acting like we're not. Fly out to Los Angeles. Missed the first 10 minutes of the United States soccer game.
Starting point is 00:05:36 Missed a goal. Get in there as they're calling another one back. Don't worry, we score again. U.S. soccer all of a sudden had the greatest night in the history of the United States soccer. Put up four goals, filthy. Okay, one was an own goal. Three filthy goals against Paraguay. Dominated them completely.
Starting point is 00:05:51 All of a sudden, people were saying, wait, soccer. Doesn't suck? That's kind of what's happening right now. It feels like soccer not sucking, a sport that I played as a child, as a youth, trying to make it on this U.S. national team. Not only Friday night helpset, but the entire World Cup has got magic going on. Germany scored seven goals. They were tied one-one at one point. Everybody thought like, whoa, what's wrong with Germany? Then they came out in the second half, say, excuse me, five goals.
Starting point is 00:06:16 And they're saying, Sweden scored five goals in a game. Netherlands in Japan, he scored four goals. Two each in the second half. Explosions everywhere. And the fans in the atmosphere is absolutely incredible. it's like, wait, did soccer have a weekend? It did. But I thought NBA had a weekend. I thought NHL had
Starting point is 00:06:31 a weekend. Soccer had a weekend? Baseball had a weekend? Well, how could it get better? Oh, I don't know. How about an underdog American knocking out some foreign champ, making them quit in the front of the White House? Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:47 Oh, yeah, that happened last night at about 1 a.m. I mean, when you talk about sports having a home run of a weekend, no pun intended, because West Virginia had no home runs against those North our law to him. Sure. They will though tomorrow as they take on Troy. Hopefully the wind's blowing out. But when you talk about a home run weekend for sports, we just had it. And we're so incredibly lucky that we get a chance to chat about it. Joining us today, Kendrick Perkins will be here. Okay. Thank you. He phased on me at the end of the Knicks game.
Starting point is 00:07:13 Okay. After they get crowned. I did not answer her because I was like, pretty tired. I'm to be honest. Saturday night after the Big Friday. I'll be excited to hear what his thoughts. Yeah, me too. Big Body Brunson's unstoppable. Yeah. Mike Grello will join us at 1240. He's CBS and Paramount Plus soccer father. He started war with Australia. Good news. USA plays Australia next week. Grella has played all around the world. He's an actual superstar. Also, a foreign member of Conkate 15. That's right.
Starting point is 00:07:39 He's the one scoring in the open. Yep. Sick finish. Sick finish, yeah. It was like when we were kids. I played with him as a child. He was chosen one as a child. He's really good. Now he's great on the mic. We'll talk to us about soccer. 115. We're going to have a hockey guest. We don't know who it is.
Starting point is 00:07:54 Kind of just waiting. Hockey Relat. TBD. He'll be a hockey person speaking in 115. And also, if you're watching at home, you're a hockey person, it's good. 115 could be a spot for you. That's right. Reach out to Mick Fis.
Starting point is 00:08:06 Hit up EVP. Mick Fith. At ESPN for hockey at 115. And then Carl Ravits will join us at 140. We only got a chance to catch up with him for like seven minutes in Omaha because we had a one hour show on Friday. So we'll talk about it all. We'll cover it all.
Starting point is 00:08:21 And we can't thank you all enough for allowing us to be a part of it. Sports were spectacular this weekend. Obviously, the weather was great here in Indiana. I know there was some weather and some other places is kind of easy come, easy go. We are in that time of year, but I will say, man, from Friday at whatever time we got up till last night at 1 a.m.
Starting point is 00:08:39 Sports have just kind of carried life and carried society. And I think it's a beautiful thing. The toxic table is here at Boston Connor and at Ty Schmidt. One half of the hammer. Cowboys AP Tony is here. Tony got a new front of your desk. I don't know if you've seen it.
Starting point is 00:08:54 Oh. Wow, look at that. It's good. Now available in all 50 states. 21 plus, obviously be responsible. We'll get predictive markets in all 50 states. Got free to plays as well available. And obviously, their sports book.
Starting point is 00:09:07 If you're 21 plus and want to dabble responsibly. Responsibly. It's not ruin it for everybody else. Okay? Please, don't be stupid. You're an asshole if you do not gamble responsibly. We would like to let you know that. And although we know that it is an outlier in this world,
Starting point is 00:09:22 We know the people that kind of fall into the trap of chasing and think that they're smarter and can figure everything out is much smaller than the hole. We want to let you small people that do that know that, first of all, we're pulling for it if you're in there. But get out of there. You're making us all look bad. Can't be like we got gamble responsibly. We've just got to have a little action on these games to make them a little bit better. At one point last night, I had Bow-Nickel.
Starting point is 00:09:44 I put out 45 plus strikes. It was only 40-plus strikes, which seemingly makes it better. Nope, Bo-Nickle kicked the guy's head off. I had Vegas Golden Knights straight up. to win so that we can get a game seven Carolina one. And then I had West Virginia plus one and a half. They lost by five. So last night was a tough night
Starting point is 00:10:00 chasing the crown, but what have we been learning about the crown chasing that we need to maybe remind ourselves? You were on an absolute heater before that. A lot of us were this weekend. We all started with Mexico on Thursday in the opening game. I believe that night we took South Korean. Draft Kings is doing
Starting point is 00:10:16 this plus one where if a team goes up one at any point during the World Cup you win that bet. We did that with South Korea on, what was that, Thursday night. Friday, we had the Mountaineers. Friday night, we had Team USA. That was great. We rolled into the Knicks.
Starting point is 00:10:30 That was great. And then, yeah, you talked about it. The Stanley Cup, the hurricanes were absolutely dumb. There's so many things to bet on right now. It's insane with the World Cup. And now when you have baseball, all the baseball, UFC, golf, we have the U.S. Open this weekend. There are so many things.
Starting point is 00:10:47 Sports are the greatest. I will say that you have to do this because I always forget. before you go to draft kings and do place a bet, they literally have a bonus on any sport you want. Any sport you can imagine, there's a 50% 25% bonus, all those things. So make sure you do that before you actually placed your bet because I always forget it and it costs me money.
Starting point is 00:11:05 Yeah, draft kings, the plus one bet, both teams are winning. Yeah. They're now, it caught us on Sunday, I think. It did. Brazil. Yeah, Brazil, it caught us because Brazil ended up tying. They didn't end up coming back and going up one. But this plus one bet, if your team just gets up by goal, you're a winner.
Starting point is 00:11:20 You're automatically a winner. Now, we're not saying that's a guarantee because obviously we lost with Brazil because that would have been an assumption that we all would have made. We thought it was too easy of a bet almost that it was happening. And once again, it ended up not hitting.
Starting point is 00:11:31 But they're paying out both sides of this bet sometimes because a lot of these games that we mentioned right there. Germany scores seven goals. Sweden scored a bunch. Netherlands and Japan had four goals. This isn't the soccer of the old days. Now, there's still some boring-ass games.
Starting point is 00:11:44 Let's not get it twisted. And there will be. Used to be 32 teams that make it in the World Cup. So I think there was a lot of parity. I think there was a lot of parity amongst the teams. I don't know if there was as much disparity as you would amongst the talent level. This is the first year they've had 48 teams, first time.
Starting point is 00:11:59 16 more teams. I assume they were absolutely crushed for making this decision. I assume they were called greedy corporate fat cats, disgusting pigs who are going to maybe add some blemishes to the beautiful game and make it no longer watchable, especially with this hydration break, are they playing quarters? Is this you eight?
Starting point is 00:12:21 Is this, are they bringing oranges to eat at halftime? Like, what is this amateur out? I think there was a lot of that being said. I will say this is somebody that grew up playing soccer, but never really watched much soccer because I was super bored because I'd like to see things happen and everything. Probably should have watched more. Probably could have got better at soccer, but just couldn't do it.
Starting point is 00:12:40 And also, my family wasn't sitting around watching soccer a lot. We were an American football family, always have been. These games have been electrifying. and getting a chance to be there on Friday night, this American team right here, hey, first time in our history, in my life, I don't know about before that, but in my life, once again, growing up playing soccer
Starting point is 00:13:00 my entire life, aiming to hopefully one day play for the national team, all that type of stuff. We've never had the amount of guys with nasty, filthy skill that we have now. We have nine guys on the pitch on the field that can cook people, that can take people on. Now, Reamer, our captain, 37-year-old, plays a vital role in this entire thing in the back. The old guard.
Starting point is 00:13:20 He is the old guard. But I think the guard that's coming up right behind him, which was the crew that was crowned maybe in the last World Cup, I don't know if there's any natural leaders in that bunch. I don't think Raina is like a natural leader, even though his dad was. I don't think Polithic wants to be like a leader. I don't think that's the case. There was that generation that was supposed to be the golden boys. They were supposed to be the best we've ever been.
Starting point is 00:13:41 These guys grew up in academies in Europe. We never had that before. I don't think any of them wanted to be like the captain of the team. I think they all just wanted to play. Now that generation, Reamer's captain, 37 years old, that generation very talented. And then this generation that's right behind it? Yeah. Nasty.
Starting point is 00:13:58 Yeah, yeah, yeah. We killed Paraguay. We cooked Paraguay. Our defense was suffocating. We were running like a 343 and then a 4-3-3-3. So you start from the back, you work forward. We had three defenders whenever we were on offense. Then we slid guy back four on defense.
Starting point is 00:14:13 And Paraguay had no idea. Paraguay had no clue what was happening. I think this is potentially why the boys didn't look great in the couple lead-up games either until they played against Germany in Chicago. I think they were trying to learn the system. The system is chaotic. The system is insane. All our guys have to be able to run.
Starting point is 00:14:32 All our guys have to be able to cook people. And Paraguay's coach came out afterwards. It was like, yeah, we had no idea what the hell was happening. They had guys moving and playing. Yeah, here's this quote. The Paraguay coach puts the feet down to the complexity of the U.S. approach. They dominated tactically, technically, and physically. They create a Pentagon and midfield.
Starting point is 00:14:52 They have a solution to every prop. We were everywhere, and we knew exactly what they were going to do. That isn't just against Paraguay. Paraguay played well in the lead up, by the way. They're like Thai Brazil and some other. Beed Argentine and the Thai Brazil. Like Paraguay is a good team. I think a lot of people were like, oh, Paraguay must be asked.
Starting point is 00:15:06 Gave up the least amount of goals, I believe, in their qualifying in that region. Everybody was saying they must be asked. It's like, no, I think we. Hey. I might do it. Look out. It's coming home. I think we have the confidence finally.
Starting point is 00:15:20 And I said that in Chicago, whenever we played against Germany, and Anthony Robinson attempted that volley that just went through the back of a net. It was nasty strike. Just an absolutely nasty goal. American teams of the past would have settled that, passed it back around. Because we always thought the other team had more skill than us. We're just going to try to not let up any goals. Let's not make any big mistakes.
Starting point is 00:15:43 and then we'll score on our one or two opportunities that we get. Pontchitino has come in here. Dress so cool. Air Forces, Team USA Air Force, this incredible kit that he had on. He's yelling at the refs, he's chirping at this. I mean, he is very active. I don't know if anybody can understand what he's saying,
Starting point is 00:15:59 but I think they get his kind of moxie and aura. All our guys think that they're better than the other team. All our guys have confidence. All our guys have moxie. All our guys have skill. And I think we're a problem. After watching all those games, they were the most impressive team by far.
Starting point is 00:16:13 including the greats. Germany put up seven, but started early. So obviously we'll have to talk about that as we go on. Is Germany who they were late or is Germany who they were early, certain question marks we can have? And aside from that, I think America being an incredible World Cup host, also good for Sol. We're bringing a world together through soccer. I think soccer is about to have a big boost. And Pontchino alluded to that after the game. He said, other sports look out, you know, and it ended up being like 24 million with the Telemundo number, which is the Spanish. Spanish speaking, this was just the English speaking thing, up into the right if this team can win. Yep.
Starting point is 00:16:48 We still hold Tony Muehola in high regards. Oh, yeah. From 1994, because he had a little bit of success in the World Cup as an American. Lennon Donovan will always be held in high regards because what they were able to do in the knockout round. This team, this team's way more talented than any of those fucking teams. I mean, it is, and they run and their dogs in Pontitino is, we want to kill. We used to not want to give up any goals.
Starting point is 00:17:15 Now it feels like we're all right. If we give up a couple and they score, we're trying to score three or four. That has never been our soccer style. It's going to be fun soccer going forward. I am legitimately excited about our chances. To me, win the whole fucking thing. Yeah, why not? That would be insanity as Pontchitino says, why not us?
Starting point is 00:17:32 Tactically we got them. Technically we got them. And mindset-wise, I think we got it. So let's go win this thing. It was lucky to be boots on the ground. Saw Tom Cruise, Rand, David Beckham. Ravey Keene, obviously. Yeah, unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:17:45 Just normal. Just very normal Friday. I posted very normal Friday. It was going to be completely normal Friday. But to be clear, had a jack and died or two, maybe just slipped up on the word. It was not normal at all. Told Beck's that when I was a child,
Starting point is 00:17:59 I watched him hit a penalty kick like 100 miles an hour. And all I wanted to do was be able to do that and hit it faster than you. And I turned into a professional ball kicker. So I think you could probably take a little credit for that. It really might, you know. does that. And Tom Cruise goes, yeah, he used to be a ball kicker. Now he does media. Like Tom Cruise's energy was incredible. So got to meet a guy who inspired me and Beckham.
Starting point is 00:18:22 You know, Bennett. I didn't really, I wasn't really trying to bend it like Beckham. Raina was. I was just trying to kill people with a ball like Beckham was doing back in the day. And then Tom Cruise and Robbie Keene, yeah, right. What a joke. And then I go into the next suite over in that thing. Oh, just the entire Kronky family and the Los Angeles Rams are sitting in there basically and also Arizona Cardinals head coach. That's right, yeah. Michael Floor, formerly of the Rams. He was a great guy. Sean McVeigh.
Starting point is 00:18:49 Straping, yeah. Absolutely strapped. I asked him as Dims as I was on the way out. I'm sweating in the tank top. Why is everybody so dressed up, by the way? Soccer, you guys don't dress like assholes to sports? What's going on? A lot of people tell me I dress terribly. I'm like I'm going to... Well, I think the sweet crowd and the actual
Starting point is 00:19:05 crowd might be a little different. Yeah, because I was out in the actual crowd, but there was still... Still some... Still booted? I don't they're like booted, but I didn't really, I was the biggest asshole. I saw it was Washington there. George Washington, a lot of, which I thought was a beautiful thing, a lot of Lucha Libre mask. Yeah, okay.
Starting point is 00:19:21 American Lucha Libre mask, speaking in Spanish about America. That's awesome. Love it. Love everything about a lot of that. There was a lot of that going on over there. It was, yes, so many, yes, yes, this is incredible. And then you think about the fans that have come from these other countries to
Starting point is 00:19:37 America and experience America for the first time, not just New York City or Los Angeles, or Las Vegas. They're actually experiencing America. It's like huge success right now. And you guys are adopting an entire country up there in Boston. Yeah, no doubt about it. The Tartan Army from Scotland, they're playing bagpipes all night long, all day long. They actually took over Fenway Park. That's the thing you don't really think about is in between these games. You've got three, four days where these people are just experiencing your city. And last night, I think the Scots were at Fenway Park
Starting point is 00:20:05 till like 3 a.m. playing bagpipes just hanging outside the stadium. This is from Saturday before their game. They were singing country roads. I believe they were just enjoying the hell out of every single part of Boston. It's really cool to see
Starting point is 00:20:18 and just the vibes to the city as a whole. I think we have the video as well of the Boston cop Connor Hardy. Yeah, here he is. He's like juggling, just having a good time.
Starting point is 00:20:27 All the vibes are just through the roof. Pretty good foots. Yeah, that's not about it. He loses it and then steps on it and says, look at me, which I'm going to do going forward. They all obviously surround them,
Starting point is 00:20:39 start pushing. him around. He loses his hat. He has it on backwards at one point and walks out. I think that's a good kind of representation of what it seems like America and all of these fans have been in all these towns. Obviously Boston's still a massive city. I mean, you've got Brits having cracker barrel bees and geez for the first time. This guy with this incredible mustache just cutting into biscuits and gravy for the first. You actually watch his mouth say, yep, we've been missing this, pal. Remember in Europe, they don't even have ranch dressing. They do not have biscuits.
Starting point is 00:21:11 They do not have gravy. I couldn't even fathom the European mind experiencing bees and G's would be a tweet of the past. And now they're actually doing it, falling in love. We'd like to let you guys know anytime. Any time, anywhere, please come over there. Elsa from Sweden, okay, she stops by Golden Crown. They told me to keep coming. Just anything you want.
Starting point is 00:21:33 The best meat you can possibly have. You should see their dessert spread. This is all available, let alone being all available. There's a Japanese story about chips and salsa coming at a Mexican restaurant. By the way, all these Cracker Barrel, Golden Corral, Mexican restaurant, all these are U.S. staples. All these are U.S. staples. Here's from the Mexican restaurant where we don't know this one for a friend. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:57 Too good of a story, the way he was typed. So it might be the greatest typer of all time. Who cares? The way this person describes getting free chips at the beginning of a meal, as if it was like, you're going to hold this against me for the rest of my life? my life. Like, what are we doing here? I haven't even done anything. You trust that I'm going to pay you? Yeah, that much? Well, I guess I got to honor your trust. It's three, four buckets of chips and salsa. Can't eat their actual meal. Nope. Tells the entire tale.
Starting point is 00:22:22 Everybody's like, yep, welcome to America. And then what about a gas station? Them seeing an American gas station for the first time? Well, these foreigners rolled up on a buckies and was like, what the fuck is this? A mall? No. This is a gas station, Freddie says. Freddie, obviously, the German who's been traveling around, who has been, um, that he's, he's, he's, is real. Confirmed real. J.J. Watt gives him a hotel down in Houston as he traveled down there for the German game where they scored seven goals, so obviously Freddie had a good time.
Starting point is 00:22:49 J.J. Watt put him up in a hotel down there. They've been welcome. Just know this, Europeans and foreigners. I mean, let alone what Korea is doing down with the Mexican. Yeah, awesome. I mean, it was just an absolutely phenomenal scene. I think what we're all learning in sports provides this. Whenever we're all on the same page, just trying to enjoy sports and kind of, hey,
Starting point is 00:23:08 this is what we're here for. I don't care about how you feel about this. I don't care about how you feel about this. We're just here to have a good time and do the sports. Brazil took over time square. Everybody was happy for him. I think Brazil was happy for him. Seemingly, everybody's just having a blast together.
Starting point is 00:23:22 This is what sports does, it unifies. But also, this is probably the first time a lot of these countries have ever experienced like American people. Think about the way that they're probably portrayed America at home. It's either politicians, right, saying and doing something that at least half of Americans don't agree with, probably even more with the way our political system is. There's, let's say 65% of people disagree
Starting point is 00:23:45 with everything basically that's happening. So they're only learning about those times. Our protests, probably the only ones they're making international news when everybody's pissed off, let alone the people that are doing the news. Those people are representing America to these people, probably the only time
Starting point is 00:23:58 you're really hearing about it. I think their portrayal of what America is, probably pretty bad. Selfish, obviously greedy, war mongers, this, this, all the things that they're told. And then sports comes along. It's like, hey, why don't you come have a kick in the middle of Boston? Why don't you go to do this?
Starting point is 00:24:12 It feels like the world's coming together around the World Cup in the United States of America. And I'll tell you, I almost get emotional thinking about it because it's been what we have been preaching. Sports are the greatest thing to ever exist. And I think we're seeing in real time here. Yeah, and all the stuff with the other people from different countries is obviously awesome. But I found myself looking at this and me like, it's a pretty good, like, we got it pretty good living here. You know, it's like the simplest of things. Like, when was the last time you went?
Starting point is 00:24:35 I know like if someone was like, hey, you want to go to Golden Corral, I'd be like, that place stinks. Absolutely not. I do not want to do that. And then you get people from other countries who go over there and it's like a euphoric experience. Like, obviously we don't know because we live here on a day-to-day basis and everything is so divisive with politically and just with everything. But like it's an event like this puts it in stark contrast. Like we do have it pretty good. Like we live in a pretty fucking awesome place. And it's great that these other people who, like you said, have never really experienced it. Get to come over and be like, oh, wow, it's not all this pomp and circumstance and bullshit that I hear about. These are normal people who, like, one of the guys was walking, they must have got an Airbnb in a neighborhood.
Starting point is 00:25:17 And it was in, you know, like a suburb of Atlanta. And he was like, said hi. Yeah, he's like, these people said hi to me. They said good morning. Like, what is this? I was not expecting this. It's just like little things like that where it's like, oh, yeah, I guess if you aren't from here, like, you wouldn't believe that. But here we are.
Starting point is 00:25:29 We get all these stories and it's incredible. Let alone air condensation. Yeah, that too. Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, he's an NBA champion, 15-year NBA vet. A man who got drafted out of high school, and I assume some of these Europeans saw this guy. Holy shit. Holy fuck, ladies and gentlemen, Kendrick Perk. Yeah, Perk.
Starting point is 00:25:48 I don't know if you've been seeing it, obviously the NBA Finals, you've been so locked in, but a lot of these people from other countries have come to the United States of America to celebrate their teams. And before the World Cup started, a lot of these teams were kind of posted up in small towns across the United States of America. and their diehard fans came in to see them. They've been experiencing all of America. I think people would say our country's awesome, all of us. It is a good time right now because of the sports perk. I heard you had a reaction to the Golden Corral dig from Ty Schmidt.
Starting point is 00:26:16 Oh, you're a time disappointing, me. Golden Correll is a classic, man. Listen, one of the best restaurants ever. Do you know my spoiled-ass kids, this happened about a month ago. They never had Golden Correl. I grew up on Golden Corral. My wife grew up on Golden Corral. So they went to church.
Starting point is 00:26:37 And after church, she says, you know what? I'm taking y'all out to eat. I was on the road. She said, we're going to go. We're going to this nice restaurant. Y'all going to love the food. So she put blindfolds on them as she was driving the car. And they got to go to Correl, and they was like, what is this?
Starting point is 00:26:55 And they had the time of their life. See, people, it's underrated. And I asked my wife, I said, how much did you spend? She said for all it was because my mother-law went as well. She was like all six, it was about $120 and we ate good. You see what I'm saying? And we ate good. You got different sections in there.
Starting point is 00:27:12 But, Ty, you know what? I wouldn't even take you with me to a buffet because you're the type of guy that were going there and just eat a salad. No. Certainly not. You don't know me like that, Big Kurt. Trust me. No, I think I had a lot of golden crowd days. If I had to assume there's a hangover to puke, they followed a.
Starting point is 00:27:31 Golden Corral that maybe turn them off of it. That's how the whites utilize Golden Corral. We roll in there hungover as a mother and then we take everything out and then we feel disgusting and we go, Golden Corral. Yeah, let me empty up both ends and then I need a break from Golden Corral. Yeah, Golden Corral, obviously, American staple, as is Buckees and everything else that they got going on coming here to America. We appreciate the fact that they're enjoying it.
Starting point is 00:27:53 They also got to be here for the first time in 53 years, the New York Knicks won a title. Congress, New York. Hell yeah. Congratulations, Bruce. Perk. Tell me a little bit about Big Body Brunson and why he's the greatest Nick of all time, even though his dad refuses to acknowledge him.
Starting point is 00:28:08 Rick, I mean, Rick did have a dad moment, but that's what he's supposed to do, because he wants J. Lamarston to stay hungry. But when you talk about what he has done in the company that he's joined, Pat, he averaged 32 points in the finals. Like, Magic Johnson didn't average this. Steph Curry didn't average that.
Starting point is 00:28:32 Isaiah Thomas didn't average that. He averaged fucking 13 points in the paint, in the paint, in the NBA finals. So he's changed the narrative of, you know, of how people or franchises are going to move forward because everybody want to go about, you know, how can they get a franchise guy and test the measurables? Now it's about the skills. And what he has showed us is that, one, he's one of the greatest scores that we've ever seen. Ever seen. He had 9.30-point games in this postseason.
Starting point is 00:29:09 He had 10 last postseason. And for him to do what he did, drop a 45-piece wing dinner, all drumsticks, on the road against Wimby. Hey, man, what else can you really say about this young man? This was David versus Goliath at his father. The San Antonio Spurs were favored to win this series. They didn't win one game at home. They got their ass kicked.
Starting point is 00:29:36 Jay LaBronster said, you know what? I'm going to spot you some points in every single game. And I'm going to come back and I'm going to walk that shit down. And he did it. He didn't talk about it. It wasn't a lot of barking in between games. But he damn show did some biting. He's one of those guard dogs that you want.
Starting point is 00:29:55 You know what I mean? that might turn on their own own. That's how much of a pit bull he is. No, you don't want the dog as going to turn on. Which I don't think, by the way, Brunson Wood, he took $130 million less or something like that so they could pay the rest of the team. It feels like he's not only the dog that will bite,
Starting point is 00:30:12 but also the loyal dog to the New York Knicks. And obviously, he will now have a statue for the rest of his life in the biggest city in the United States of America, which is fantastic. But let's talk about why he took a pay cut and for everybody else around him that kind of, you know how to step up. These guys have been here before.
Starting point is 00:30:28 This has been a team that has gotten to the playoffs and has had their hearts broke. Tell me about OG, obviously, stepping up in a big way. Josh Hart, obviously, very happy that things went different ways after he had mistakes, but he's a huge piece of this entire puzzle. Obviously, great patriot, Mitchell Robinson. He had an incredible run through this entire thing doing his job.
Starting point is 00:30:49 GTA, he had some remarkable minutes in this. It felt like everybody on the Knicks kind of stepped up in their own manner, How do you feel about the Knicks as a whole and the cast around Big Body Brunson who's clearly the star? Well, I mean, think about it. Every guy, including the coaching staff, were stars in their role.
Starting point is 00:31:10 Darren Irman, who we talked about, the defensive coordinator, was a star in their role. The Knicks had the number one defense in this postseason. O.G. Anobie, the ultimate 3-D guy. I call him the 2026 version of Scotty Pippin, was a star in his role on both ends of the floor.
Starting point is 00:31:29 Josh Hart, Swiss Army knife. You don't look at the scores to see what he done that impacted the game. Look at who he was guarding. See, no one was talking about, or no one is talking about how he put the clamps on Stefan Castle. That was his assignment. Stefan Castle was non-existent in the last two games. And then when you look at Mitchell Robertson,
Starting point is 00:31:54 playing some outstanding minutes, especially in back-to-back games when Carl Anthony Towns getting in foul trouble. And Mike Brown, Mike Brown coached his ass off in this series. Think about this for a second. Mike Brown had the guts, the guts to go with a back court with two small guys and back-to-back games in the clutch and get it done. like they it was to the point where it was heart over height and so when you see all of this when you see Jordan Clarkson coming in and provide minutes after not playing earlier in the season and those guys
Starting point is 00:32:34 stand in the moment. McHale Bridges was horrible in games three and game four at the crib but hit some big time shots on the road and I mean I can't say enough about Carl Anthony Towns when you talk about the guy that's sacrived fights the most, he was that guy. Like, he wasn't complaining and moaning and griping about getting the ball. No, he embraced being who they needed him to be.
Starting point is 00:33:02 Yes, he got in foul trouble a couple of times, but outside of that, his defense, the way that he was engaged, I mean, we have to give props when props is due. This is one of the greatest teams that we've ever seen. And this is not an overreaction. we can go check the damn, we could go check the stats. The numbers tell us that. 283 differential, you know, throughout this postseason, nine game winning streak, you know what I mean,
Starting point is 00:33:30 nine game road winning streak. 13. 13 total game win streak, nine on the road in that, yeah, yeah. The only team to join it was the Houston Rockers, I believe, back in 1995. You know what I mean? And, Pat, I got to come with these numbers and stats because you know some of these idiots and trolls in your comments and say,
Starting point is 00:33:52 Perk overreacting, not you, never you. Never you are my guys that's in the state. Ty, maybe, Todd, maybe. Parker knows. Maybe. Connor maybe. Yeah, me and Connor, me and Connor didn't have our back and forth on social. So we good not.
Starting point is 00:34:07 We good not. For now. Yeah, but I understand that people will say it's an overreaction because you're talking about history and everybody loves nostalgia, so they're always going to hold things up. Bruce, you sent in some rating that said that they said that they, They are the best team in the history of the finals. Best playoff net ratings of NBA champions coming out of Sportico. New York Knicks plus 15.4.
Starting point is 00:34:26 Net rating equals point differential per 100 possessions. Okay, so who's the best if there was 100 possessions? The New York Knicks. Then the 2001 Lakers, Lake Show, how you doing, keep it moving, fun to watch down there. Golden State Warriors when they want crazy bucks, bulls, bulls, lakers, Celtics. So you could literally have the argument anytime you wanted that they're the best team. and you can also say that you lived through it whenever they were getting 12-day breaks in between serieses because they were so damn dominant.
Starting point is 00:34:55 Bruce, congrats to you and the next brother. Thank you, yeah. Unbelievable run. This net rating, too, is also with becoming the first team to ever have four double-digit comebacks in a finals that you won. So really, you know, obviously this happens with you lose two games by one point and then rattle off 13 wins where you're you're blowing people out but then you know to then show the the ability to come back to uh you know play a game where the spurs are in control control in the pace um yeah
Starting point is 00:35:28 unbelievable run and to cap it off with a brunton master class 45 points you know the greatest closer in new york since marionna rovera um it's super fitting mitchell robinson with a massive offensive of rebound over Wemby in clutch time. It's amazing. The city's going to be amazing. So happy for this group. They all deserve it so much. And I mean, you know, it's probably the coolest run and coolest fan experience that
Starting point is 00:35:58 I've ever been a part of. Can't wait for Thursday for the parade. Now let's go to the other side, Perk, because it's getting loud for the Frenchmen. Go ahead, Con, man. Yeah, Perk, obviously kind of a wild finals for Wembe every single time it got to the fourth quarter, everything kind of changed when it came to him. And a lot of people now don't really like Wemby after this playoff run and the finals run. But for you, when you think about Wemby, are the expectations on him so much higher than any other 22-year-old we've seen in a while? I won't say
Starting point is 00:36:27 ever because LeBron James, other guys, but it feels like at 22, most of the time when these teams would lose, first of all, I was never in the finals. And then the other argument is, you know, Ann Edwards, for instance, when they would lose in these early years of his career, it was like, hey, he'll get there. Even Jason Tatum and the Celtics, when they would lose early on in the conference finals, even when they lost to the Warriors, it was like, hey, this is a learning experience. Whereas for Wembe now, it feels as though it's like, hey, this guy kind of blew it, especially in the fourth quarter, all those comebacks, Bruce mentioned. It was very much a kind of a dump on Wemby versus everything else.
Starting point is 00:37:03 But what do you say about his expectations? and is this something that we're probably going to end up hating because he's going to come back and win five finals after being motivated with this first loss? Well, the people who hate Wemby just don't like basketball. They need to question themselves because Wemby has nothing has been heaven sent when it comes to former players and what he's brought to the game of basketball. Like, Wimby embodies the NBA.
Starting point is 00:37:36 Wimby is the one that sparked up and gave life to the All-Star game. Wimby is the one that said, I want to participate in the dunk contest. Winby is the one that said, I want to win MVP. Wimby is the one that walked off the floor without shaking hands after they just got their ass kicked by the New York Knicks on their home floor. This is what we've been missing. Like it's been too much friendly stuff going on in sports And this is Wimby wakes up every day For anybody that's not in the Spurs organization
Starting point is 00:38:10 Not to like him And I'm okay with that We need to get back to that I don't want to keep seeing the jersey swaps I don't want to see guys being friendly Working out with one another in the offseason I want to see just that And he's going to learn from it
Starting point is 00:38:25 Winby knows what he has to do Wimby knows that he has to get in the lab and go develop a signature post move. Wimby knows that he has to continue to get stronger. He knows that endurance is going to kick in. And what he realizes is that this marathon, this journey is long. So you have a greater appreciation for guys like Steph Curry and LeBron James, who's going to back-to-back finals and knowing what they had to put their body through in the offseason to get to this point.
Starting point is 00:39:00 Like, LeBron had to go to Miami in order to learn how to complete the mission. He got there when he was in Cleveland, but he had to go learn. And it wasn't like, you know, we had Greg Popovich on the sideline. It was Ms. Johnson. He was learning as well.
Starting point is 00:39:18 And Ms. Johnson did a hell of a job with this team this all season. A lot of people don't realize how hard it is for a young, coach to get a young team to buy into being stars in their role. To buy into losing themselves
Starting point is 00:39:35 in the team. Do you could y'all only imagine how many times he probably wanted to start Dylan Harper or should have started Dylan Harper throughout the regular season and the playoffs? You know how hard, you know how many times he probably
Starting point is 00:39:50 had to walk in the gym and keep Dylan Harper motivated and make him stay in the moment? Do you know how many times, you know, a guy like Keldon Johnson, who was six man of the year, probably thought he should have been a starter, but Miss Johnson had to convince him to be that
Starting point is 00:40:07 star. Like, that's hard. And the fact that he's one of the youngest coaches in the league, filling the shoes of one of the greatest, if not the greatest coaches ever, and coming in into that role while managing Wemby and bringing them to
Starting point is 00:40:22 the Promise land, the Spurs has, they have nothing to hang their is about. It was a beautiful, a successful, and they overachieved this season. Definitely got there early, you know, and I know there's going to be a lot of things said about them, but we're sorry, Miss Johnson.
Starting point is 00:40:41 We are never supposed to make it that far. I'm sorry, Mitch Johnson. They were very early. We were watching them all. You talk about Mitch Johnson, you say this is going to be a learning experience and all that stuff. It was literally in real time. We were watching, like, literally watching a young
Starting point is 00:41:04 team. And then on the flip side of it, this team's been here before, and they got a court general and Jalen Brunson that is kind of going to make sure everybody's on the same page. Excited for that to happen on the other side. You talk about Harper? Man, I can't wait for him to find one of these. Because he's going to go to work. He's going to go to work on this. He's going to go to work on this from three, and as soon as he can and then he can go into the... Because nobody really respects this right now from him. And he's still
Starting point is 00:41:30 able to get the buckets. That's like when LeBron developed his jumper. It was like a whole different game. You forget about all these guys. They're only going to get better. This is only going to get better. And I can't wait to watch the Spurs for the next 20 years. I cannot wait to watch. How about Bryant accepting his role
Starting point is 00:41:46 just coming in and fouling? Dog. Hey, listen, just coming in and fill the shit out of people. That's what you guys do. And a lot of repeat. Exactly. a lottery pick. Like, he's going to grow. But I will say this, the Spurs, they do have some tough decisions to make. Right. Like, you, in a few, you know, Wimby is going to be eligible for a contract extension. I believe he might be eligible this summer. Right. Stefan Castle as well.
Starting point is 00:42:12 Dylan Harper in a few years. Right. Keldon Johnson is going to be on the books for, I believe, like 17 million next year. I think Vassel is on the books. He, He's on a, I believe, $80, $85, $90 million contract. But the biggest elephant in the room is, what are they going to do with DeAren Fox? I think we know. And I strongly believe that they have to move on from him right now. And it's not because he had a horrible finals.
Starting point is 00:42:42 It's not because he had some horrible moments in the NBA finals. It's because that's Dillon Harper's spot. and DeAnne Fox is on the $200 plus million contract. Your cornerstone, your three guys that you're building around is Castle, Harper, and obviously Wimby. You know, and then you fill in the blanks from there, but you never want to, you got to find a suitor. And the crazy part is, I don't know if it's a team out there
Starting point is 00:43:13 right now that's going to be willing to take on a Deer and Fox contract, because I believe, I believe he's old for like the next four years. Two hundred twenty one million over the next four years, Deere and Fox. So obviously somebody will sign up for it. We've seen that in all sports happen where we get surprised by it. And also this could be a big motivation for Deeran Fox. A lot of people tying Deeran Fox and Mike Brown together back to Sacramento
Starting point is 00:43:34 and then now everything that's kind of taking place. So they're saying Mike Brown's sleeping good, knowing he's been right this entire time. And I know De Aaron Fox knows he's a hooper too. He don't love just getting dunked on by everybody, no matter how much money you're getting paid. Okay, last question here, Perkins, we move past the new champs and looks So an offseason? Go ahead, Ty?
Starting point is 00:43:50 Yeah, Perk, in your opinion, what is the biggest story of this offseason? Is it where LeBron's going to end up? Is it where Janus is going to go? Is it what do the Spurs do, you know, trying to kind of get back to the mountaintop? Or is it something else? No, it's Janus. It's Janus. I believe Janus is going to be traded before the draft.
Starting point is 00:44:11 And it's where he goes. Like, Janus is the one that moves the needle. I'm hearing rumors that it could possibly be in Boston. That means Jalen Brown might be on his way out, but could you imagine a healthy Jason Tatum and the Yannis Anta Coupo together? That would be hell and hot water for the rest of the league. But Yonis is the biggest story.
Starting point is 00:44:34 Where he ends up. We're talking about a guy, in my opinion, that's already top three, greatest power fours of all time. I mean, seriously, when you look at this accolades, the only person that you can't put in front of him, of him is Tim Duncan. You know, like when you talk about what he
Starting point is 00:44:53 has done in his short career, it's certain players in this league that moves the needle. A lot of players are popular, but he's powerful. Powerful means you change the economy. There's only a few of those guys that change the economy when they move
Starting point is 00:45:12 somewhere, and Janus is one of them. Heart over hype, power over popularity. Ladies and gentlemen, That's the man with all the sayings, and he's on your ass. Like back pockets. Ladies and gentlemen. Hey, hell of a run in this playoffs. You did great.
Starting point is 00:45:31 We appreciate the hell out of you, man. Appreciate child, man. I thought y'all was going to need me for security out there with them jello shots, man. I was ready, you know what I'm saying? Load up and get down there. Perg, that was just nothing like what I thought it was going to be, honestly. And I think what people are, they invited me directly by me. name the place.
Starting point is 00:45:51 Like at Pat McAfee's show. You gotta let him know. Said my name in the entire thing. It's like, I thought we were walking into a great time. Turns out, West Virginia has continued to win. Shout out to that. And shout to College Road Series. Perk, we would love for you to travel with us, though. Everywhere. Perk behind the scenes
Starting point is 00:46:07 is a lovable perp. Well, I tell you that much. Well, that's good. Because on camera, you fucking suck. Ladies and gentlemen, that's Kendrick Park. Yeah, Perk. All right. he's the man. And we saw him, did, we did see him behind the scenes. We did. I mean, he's the one in the book, Tracy Morgan and Tina Faye. Beast. With a text, he knows everybody. And everybody
Starting point is 00:46:28 knows him. And you guys have been in the NBA since high school. And now he's been on TV about talking. He is awesome. We appreciate the hell out of perk for legitimizing us alongside Q. And also Eamon, who's had a hell of a run. Talking about legitimizing us, ladies and gentlemen, joining us now. Is a man who knows the beautiful game? Yeah, he does. So damn well that he's part of the CBS and Paramount Plus Galazo coverage. He's one of the voices of soccer. Ladies and gentlemen, a man that I've known, that I've known since I was a teenager,
Starting point is 00:46:58 and a man who's played soccer all around the world and now gives his critiques of the beautiful game so much so that he is an entire continent and country in Australia, hating his Italian guts right now. Ladies and gentlemen, legend, Mike Gorella. Yeah, Grella. Boys, what's going on, man?
Starting point is 00:47:18 It feels like coming home every time I'm along with you guys honored. Hell, we love having you, and obviously, you're spectacular of what you do. Love how this World Cup has started. From the fans invading America and experiencing different places, as opposed to just New York, L.A. or Vegas, to the crowds packed out. Everybody was talking about there's potentially a little blue dot fever happening for World Cup games. All I've seen is sold out stadiums. All I've seen is incredible environments.
Starting point is 00:47:42 And then the play on the pitch, obviously, USA playing the way they're playing is fantastic. We'll dive into that. But it feels like the World Cup has started perfectly. Is that an accurate way if you were kind of a soccer fan or maybe an American soccer fan that's just getting into it? How do you view the first couple days here of the World Cup, Grella? Pat, you probably remember this. I fell in love with the game 94 when the World Cup came here.
Starting point is 00:48:05 I was seven. I guess you were like eight years old. And there's like a magic that comes with a tournament, it comes with singing your national anthem. The stadiums are packed. There's something really special about it. Obviously, it's the world's game as well. well and there's in so many different countries involved.
Starting point is 00:48:19 I can't get a ticket to a game. It's impossible. I mean, you can't bring your kids to the game because it costs your fortune. So that's the one thing that I think has to be worked out because when, you know, working class families can't go to the game. And I think that's a tough, that's a tough look and it's not, it's not right. But other than that, it's been great. The U.S. has been the best team I've seen so far.
Starting point is 00:48:39 And we've seen some real, some real surprises. Curiselle getting a goal. They've got a population of 158,000 people. Dude, I live in Huntington, New York. We've got 180,000 people. So imagine making a team out of your hometown and going to the World Cup and scoring a goal against Germany.
Starting point is 00:48:54 It's a pretty special storyline. Yeah, and then Germany said, okay. Have fun? That was cute. And then kind of moved along and scored five in the second half, I do believe. It went to halftime at 2-1. We've been watching all the games,
Starting point is 00:49:06 and you mentioned it there. US, now I don't know enough about soccer to be speaking about it too much. But what I will say is, It seems like the boys are all in on the formation. Okay, it feels like we got like a 353 type thing happening. And for the first time since I've watched U.S. soccer, going all the way back to Tony Miole's boys and Colby and Lexi Lawless,
Starting point is 00:49:29 who's having quite a start. Yeah. And still on the microphone to that entire crew. It feels like this is the first time where like nine out of the 11 guys on the field can cook the other team. It feels like we have a bunch of more confidence on the rock. I feel like we have guys that can take people on. and if you can beat one person, you can change the math completely.
Starting point is 00:49:47 And all of our guys can do that. Other than Reamer, okay? Well, maybe. He's 37. I don't think Reamer can cook anybody. But it feels like everybody else can. Is there a reason why this team, other than me just being an ignorant American,
Starting point is 00:50:02 is there a reason why we can win the World Cup? Because I'm actually feeling I was there watching. We were suffocating on defense. They couldn't move anywhere. We were everywhere. We had guys fucking everywhere. We were outrunning them. We had more pace than them.
Starting point is 00:50:14 We're taking them on, Grella. Am I seeing the right stuff here? Or am I just kind of boozed up at a World Cup game thinking America's better than everybody like I do basically all the time? I got to tell you, talking the right guy, because, you know, obviously, as an analyst, my job is to point out all the mistakes
Starting point is 00:50:29 and all things that can be better. There was hard to find any of the other night. Best performance in their history in an international competition, hands down. Anyone who says, oh, but it was Paraguay. You don't know football. And you need to watch a lot more. And they were perfect.
Starting point is 00:50:43 They were the best team so far. Energy, transition, risk reward, understanding everything that they had to do. Now, that's one performance. And you were at the game. They played in the top gear the whole time. It was almost like that they were running downhill the entire time. I don't know that you can play that way for 90 minutes, eight, nine games in a row. I mean, look at this.
Starting point is 00:51:07 I mean, they didn't make mistakes in possession. They didn't make mistakes out of possession aside from the goal. They were really good. they're going to be tested when it comes to like France, Spain, some of the big boys that are going to come into the tournament. Can they manage the moments? Because they're not going to be able to play 90 minutes like just rock and roll football like they did the other night. They're going to have to manage different moments when they're under a little bit of fire. They're going to have to play a little bit more in like a defensive shape, sort of like we did at TST a couple years ago. So we'll see if they're able to manage it.
Starting point is 00:51:39 But they were fantastic. and American fans all over of any sport should be excited about this team. Yeah, I think we should feel as if we have a team that will represent. Like, in the past, I think we had like maybe six elite guys, five elite guys.
Starting point is 00:51:55 Feels like now we got eight, nine, like elite guys on the field. Once again, Paraguay, I've only seen these guys live one time, but I felt alive in there. Now, I do think a lot of credit, and you talked about what we played at TST, we played that way at TST,
Starting point is 00:52:10 thought the other teams maybe had more skill than us. I think for a long time, Team USA has always played very defensive. Like, hey, we are going to try to try to clog it up. And if we have one chance or two chances, we got to take advantage of it. But it's going to be very boring. It's going to be very low scoring. And that comes from a place of thinking the other team has more skill than us, which has kind of naturally been the United States thing. Then this guy comes to town, this little Spanish-speaking fella, and it feels completely different. Go ahead, Ty. Yeah, Gorilla, how much credit does Ponch deserve? Because as someone who didn't play soccer and like doesn't really watch it.
Starting point is 00:52:42 It's very evident watching this team how much different they look. And obviously the players are better. But I remember hearing this about Yergen Klinzman when he comes on. It's like, oh, hey, they got the guy. And then I kind of checked out during Burrhalter because it seemed like, you know, the team kind of stunk. They weren't going to do anything. Now with him it feels different.
Starting point is 00:52:59 Like how much credit does he deserve? And do you think he is one of the best gaffers around in terms of who's in this tournament? Good word. Yeah. The gaffir. So listen, he came in. It was like super exciting. And then he was just not getting results.
Starting point is 00:53:15 They lost all the top European teams. He kind of, he was, he should have been under pressure. And actually, we interviewed him at the U.S. Open Cup. And it was at a moment where he was under a lot of pressure with the U.S. And he strolled in, man, with a Hugo Boss suit. Or it was like Sergio Tocini suit. Yes. Top to bottom.
Starting point is 00:53:32 Didn't give two shit, man. Super cool. And he's created like some, a very. I don't think I've ever seen this before. He's created an atmosphere where it's like, he's like, I'm a winner. I've won big things. I'm a great manager.
Starting point is 00:53:48 You guys suck at this, this, this, this and this. You guys have to grow up in these sections. And the entire time, he's been kind of talking to other teams as well, club teams, like he's already setting up his next job. So it's kind of like, it's been a cold shoulder. He doesn't really talk to a lot of the players. They get emailed. You know, you heard about that.
Starting point is 00:54:05 They got emailed if they made the tournament or not, if they made the squad or not. So he's created this narrative. where it's kind of like, hey, it's up to you guys now. You guys are big boys. You guys have the talent. A lot of our players playing the Champions League or top level European clubs. And he's kind of put the onus on them.
Starting point is 00:54:20 He's like, I'm good. I know I'm good. Now it's up to you guys to show in. And I think they've kind of banded together sort of with them and against them in some ways. But I think now they've taken on responsibility. If you watch that Paraguay game, man, they, it was personal, dude. They sent the message to the world that night.
Starting point is 00:54:37 Can they continue? We'll see. I'm optimistic. but obviously as the big boys coming to the tournament, it'll be interesting. He just mentioned Herb Brooks. I think some of these soccer guys, just from my understanding from these TST tournament, need that. I think that's not a bad thing to kind of bring. And you mentioned the talent level on our team now.
Starting point is 00:54:54 This is obviously something you weren't played overseas whenever we were kids. It was a huge deal that you were over there. It's like I was in Pittsburgh hearing about you playing in Italy, and I'm like, holy hell, I didn't even know that was possible. Now we got academies and also, go ahead, Tone. Yeah, girl, I saw a stat the other day that 15 of the U.S. US men's national team guys play in the top European leagues. That's more than Brazil has on their current World Cup roster.
Starting point is 00:55:17 How big of a deal is that? How big of a deal is it them facing the best competition in the world all the time? And then also gaining, like we've talked about, gaining confidence from playing in those leagues and performing well. Yeah, so when I went over there, I was one of the earlier guys going over to Europe. And when an American came to Europe, they were like, what are you doing here? You come in here to wash the kit or you come in here to, the next best thing was, oh, you're a goalkeeper, right you guys play sports with your hands you guys must be goalkeepers and it was like you know from another world and anything you did good it was like oh but he's american now it's like
Starting point is 00:55:48 americans are well sought after like they they are unbelievable assets because they got big engines they can run a lot they're smart they're athletic and now the fact that all like eight or nine guys are playing champions league football dude that changes everything that that like week in and week out the level the tempo the game the physicality of the game the speed of the game they are they're not only playing in those games. They're dominating those games, right? Polisic is Milan's best player over the last three years. A.C. Milan's best player. Think about that.
Starting point is 00:56:17 We didn't know if he was even going to start when he first got over there. He is their best player. Weston McKinney, he is Juventus's most reliable players. Like, these are historic clubs. And then they've got a bunch of guys playing Champions League football. Tyler Adams was a roommate of mine back in the day. You know, he was 16 years old, this little thing. Like, no big deal.
Starting point is 00:56:37 Man, he's got some bite. these nasty guys playing for Boredmith at the moment in the Premier League. And again, these guys are well sought after. So it's this is a different World Cup. Back then, we had like guys that were animals that were men. Now we've got actual guys that look like they got some bite
Starting point is 00:56:52 and they're talented. That's Michael Grella. You're the man. We appreciate the breakdown. We'll continue to chat about the World Cup for as long as America's great. That's Michael Grella. We'll see you on the other side. Goodbye. Sports. We are the greatest. And from Friday until now,
Starting point is 00:57:12 we've had four new champions crowned and a sport has been celebrated more than it's ever been celebrated in our country's history and a college baseball world series is happening that is producing electricity out of Omaha, Nebraska. Sports also showcased the United States of America in a huge way last night as Freedom 250 won off without a hitch. I think they had a rain delay slight and then they just won in there with the wind. The spectacle was spectacular. I've never seen the White House look like that from the lighting to everything else the pageantry Dana I think they said 12 flying a so sick so sick filthy 5-5 and at 1-1 which I guess is an extremely rare formation but also that one flying behind how's the jet I don't know how
Starting point is 00:58:01 any of that are they rubbing his race in there no pot caught up in the jet wash I don't know how any of that works ain't no straight's open yeah straight's open for my understanding I mean sports potentially helped put a deadline on that because of this particular event was taking place. Dana, one of the best reactions I've ever seen to somebody just, ha! Oh my God! Oh my God, I can't believe this is all going the way.
Starting point is 00:58:23 It's going to America celebrating. 90,000 people, they said, were over in that ellipse park across the way or whatever the case, celebrating fighting in America. I mean, it was just from the World Cup on Friday, USA doing that. Hell yeah, America. USA chance, raining through Los Angeles. Okay? The anthem was unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:58:43 Anthem, Dan and Shea. Pittsburgh Legends, whole moment that takes place. Then the Europeans learning about rural America and Central and Midwestern America as a whole. And then Freedom 250 Sunday night showcasing it. And it ends with an American underdog forcing a foreign powerhouse arrogant champion
Starting point is 00:59:04 to quit in the front yard of the White House at 1 a.m. on Sunday. I mean, one of the greatest weekends of sport that we've had ever, maybe. Plus the finals on both. Stand the Cup champion. Larry O'Brien champion. Sports are the greatest. They also said all these foreigners were going to hate our stadiums,
Starting point is 00:59:25 and they love all the stadiums. Yeah, it's just, I guess. Even mad life. And the grass has been holding up for soccer. A lot of NFL players coming out talking about the grass. I would like to warn NFL players before you go talking about soccer grass. This is not super grash, which American football would need. I think there are different types of grass that are good for different types of things.
Starting point is 00:59:50 Allegedly, the grass that has been rolled over on top of these stadiums, if you had to get a bunch of people in push, it would be asked for that. Get torn up. Yeah, they said it would not be good for football. So anytime the players come out and start talking about the grass rolled on top of the stadiums in the NFL and say, hey, I could do it for soccer. I thought we hate soccer. Why can't they do it? For us, the NFL immediately returns to go, we'll put this grass out there. Is this the grass you want out there? Now, granted, have we seen the boys play football on these soccer pitches?
Starting point is 01:00:19 Not yet. So maybe we're being lied to about that? Maybe. But we've been told by basically everybody in the soccer road that's like, this is for like. Body styles are little. No 300 pounds or something. Yeah, this is 130 pounds. Yeah, they're kicking balls like this. And have you seen when they do push off there is even for these little 125 founders out here. So a little different. grass, different setup, but seemingly stadium's working, fields working, host hotel is working, except for England and Missouri. They're experiencing tornadoes. That's tough. The English obviously built for it. They got their shit stolen in Florida last week and had to go through a tornado this week. They're seeing the Scots and the Swedes and the Japanese and all these people have the time of their life and they're hunkered down in a tornado room because, you know, we're looking out for them.
Starting point is 01:01:02 It'd be like that sometime. Yeah, welcome to the U.S. Algeria and Lawrence, Kansas are having the bromance like no one's ever seen. It's awesome. Korea and Mexico, obviously, we saw those videos. Every, hey, sports are the greatest. Talks to the table, that boss, Connor, Ettaic Schmidt. One half of the hammer. Cowboys AP Tone is here.
Starting point is 01:01:24 Live from Manateka in Ohio is a man who I think was a part of the Columbus celebration of Team USA winning, which we obviously had clips of where the entire city was seemingly going bonkers over what the soccer team was able to do against Pada. in SoFi Stadium on Friday. Ladies and gentlemen, joining us live fresh out of that celebration. AJ Hawke. Hock, thanks for going down there with the USA chance and celebrating with the city as Team USA beats the absolute shite out of Paraguay on Friday night
Starting point is 01:01:51 as we potentially start our voyage to World Cup champs, AJ. Yeah, I do feel, I know you're asking Greller to, hey, do we have a chance to actually win this thing? It does feel like with the momentum we have only after one victory, we could, but this is pretty cool to see. Obviously, Columbus with the crew here. There is a gigantic soccer following. So, yeah, they are truly excited about this. They weren't the only ones.
Starting point is 01:02:13 There was other cities that were obviously having celebrations. Here is New York, Atlanta. There was a bunch of watch parties for Team USA soccer. It feels like 94 again. It does. It really does. Where the team has hope, because there have been years, like Lando and the boys went on a little bit of a run.
Starting point is 01:02:31 I think they took on Ghana maybe in the elimination round, gets a win late. Lando follows up and scores. where the country like caught up to them. That was already so late. This is first game. Ass beating. Everybody's like, we're in.
Starting point is 01:02:44 Yeah. We've arrived. Okay, so yeah, 16 mil in English. Yeah. 8 mil or whatever. Tell them I go in Spanish. I mean, that's the biggest for soccer. And that was the first game against Paraguay,
Starting point is 01:02:57 where normally fans would not have caught up to this yet. Normally it's like, okay, we bid Australia. All right, I'll give them some hope. Who do we got next? Turkey? Well, they're the good ones. Actually, they just lost our show. Yeah, but Turkey's going to beat us.
Starting point is 01:03:09 So people will hate watch on this America at that point. Like, ah, waiting for them to lose. Right now it feels like an overwhelming, like, the boys might have it here. The boys might have enough skill. And they're dancing on the faces of Paraguay, AJ. We were up 3-1. There was seven minutes of stoppage time.
Starting point is 01:03:24 It was already 97 minutes into the game. And the ref actually goes, last one, basically says it, as we're kind of driving down the field with the ball. And it looked like target time for TST with Team USA against Paraguay. We were just kind of doing whatever we wanted to do
Starting point is 01:03:39 with the ball. Boom, boom. And the ref literally had his arms behind his back, like here's the last buildup, basically. This was in the 98th minute. It was only supposed to be
Starting point is 01:03:47 seven minutes of stoppage time. And it was strictly because the refth, like, let's see if you can score another one. Let's see it. And they did. And Raina curves it around. He comes in late, flops a couple times,
Starting point is 01:03:58 very dramatic, and then bends one in, swerve off the outside of the foot. Nasty. Raina coming in for a 20-minute spectacle there for Team USA. which we appreciate. But it was an awesome win.
Starting point is 01:04:09 The style was fantastic. And I think America's on board. If they get going, Ponch said it afterwards, look out to other sports. It's what he said. It's like, who's he talking about?
Starting point is 01:04:17 Is he talking about baseball? No. Is he talking about baseball right there? Well, you know what? If we win the whole thing, sure. Who's he talking about? Is he talking about hockey?
Starting point is 01:04:27 Can't be talking about hockey? Hockey's hot right now. He might be talking about everything. And that's why I love Ponce. He might be coming at the NFL if I know, exactly. And that's why I love Ponce. So there is a thought
Starting point is 01:04:35 that he's already agreed to a deal with another team, but that team also has gotten close with another gaffer. So maybe Ponch is Team USA's coach for the foreseeable future. Remember, head coach of the team also has a lot of sway in how U.S. soccer is kind of handled at the youth level. So
Starting point is 01:04:51 like, Pontchitino, I think whenever he came in, was able to cut through a lot of political bullshit of U.S. soccer, which always has been in everything, there's always political stuff. He drops in there, and all of a sudden, it's like, I just want the best players who can run their asses off. Turns out, a lot of them are playing in the Premier League. So we're off, AJ, we might win the whole damn thing.
Starting point is 01:05:10 And I know people are kind of, you know, calling me dumb American. I'd like to let you Europeans and foreigners know, maybe you're the dumb ones. They must not know a ball. Maybe you don't know. Maybe you don't know what's happening on that pitch for Team USA. The boys are working. And we haven't seen Argentina. No. We haven't seen France.
Starting point is 01:05:29 Spain's going right now. Yeah, they haven't scored. We saw Germany put up seven. Yeah, but we played our C game. That's the, you know, Who's the favorite in the whole tournament? Who's supposed to win? Spain and France.
Starting point is 01:05:39 And Argentina obviously has Leo, so. I think being on world soil makes a big difference too. I know they're not like they're staying in hotels and everything, but I think that makes a huge difference. You talk about Christiana Renato. He's in his sixth World Cup. World Cups are every four years. Quick math.
Starting point is 01:05:54 That'd be 24 years. Okay, that's how many years work of World Cups this guy. And he's still, and he's still standing like he's about to take a free kick in every single photo. that he's in. Christiana Ronaldo also must watch. Not the most famous person on earth, though, says 1,372 program feud surveyed people. Interesting. Do you see the foreigners get into the comments there, AJ? No, what were they saying about that? So we put out a reel of who's the most famous
Starting point is 01:06:23 athlete on earth right now, which is obviously a question that we asked 1,372 sports fans who were pulled. And LeBron James is number one. Messi was number two. And then Tom, Brady was like six or something over here. Wemby was on there. Wembe was last. Rinaldo was two. Christian? No. Yeah. Messy was three because you got messy to start, yeah. Whatever it was.
Starting point is 01:06:45 Those two were back to back. No tiger though, no show hay. Yeah, there was no show hey was crazy. But I think the foreigners got into the comments, didn't understand the concept of like what was happening. They were thinking that like we were deciding who was the most They don't know how the feud works? It seems like they did not. And to be honest, they always call us dumb and arrogant. Feels like they were acting very dumb and arrogant in the comments as well.
Starting point is 01:07:12 Now, just let's say they didn't know that. Them talking about some of these soccer players as if America is not a massive country. And I mean, Yamal was literally walking through Walmart. Nobody had a clue. No. You put messy in some of these cities, walk them down Main Street, and don't put a hat on them. Don't tell anybody. Jeans too, I can't be seeing his sweet tattoo on his thing.
Starting point is 01:07:38 You have him walk down the street here in America. I think he would just get on by in some of these places. I don't think it would be that big of a deal. But we understand globally, he is certainly a sensation. And I am a huge fan of his. But them just automatically acting like, hey, America's opinion doesn't matter on who's popular or not. It's like, yeah, we're definitely arrogant.
Starting point is 01:08:00 But remember, this is a survey, and also, you need to watch out you're talking. Tom Brady was sixth. Okay, that's our guy. He's sixth. We don't like that at all. He definitely above your guys in our eyes. It was the people that are surveyed. So I don't think they've really fully understood the concept.
Starting point is 01:08:16 No, no, no. But once again, this is when the world's kind of coming together right now. Yeah, I mean, even Mahomes. Like, Mahomes is the biggest start in the biggest league, really, in America. And you can make that argument out of any league because they get 150 million viewers on their Super Bowl, Super Bowl, but still, like, even some of the names that seemingly were on there didn't make much sense. Where are those numbers coming from, too? Is this Nielsen reporting these? Definitely not in America, I understand. But we'll see some of these global numbers, and it'll be like,
Starting point is 01:08:43 14.6 billion people watch. Like, well, there isn't that many people. Is there that many people in the, sorry, that was a miscalculation. 4.2 billion watch. It's like, well, who's checking that? I mean, I've certainly watched. We all watched. And how long do they watch? What does that mean? How long did they watch? Is that part of it? And on that note, we're all all in, so we don't want to start a war with soccer right now. But it's like some of the comments need the... They love American right now. They love America.
Starting point is 01:09:09 That's a great. That is a cool thing to see on the Internet, how everyone is... There's all these people experiencing America for the first time. Like, oh, this place is actually pretty sweet. Like, what have I been paying attention to? People would tell me it sucks. This is awesome over here. Yeah, it was a great weekend, man.
Starting point is 01:09:21 It was a great weekend of sports. Great week of unification. And straight's open, for my understanding. That's right. That's good news. Free flow, back. Hey, that's good news. For my understanding, that is good news.
Starting point is 01:09:32 And I think everybody understands that now, right? Yeah. When maybe people didn't understand that? Yes. They should maybe think about teaching that to us. Hey, here's this thing right here. It's pretty important. People are going to be real pissed.
Starting point is 01:09:43 This doesn't. We knew about the canal, but not the straight. Yeah, we know it down here. South of us. There's one over there, too. That's pretty important, sounds like. It sounds like it's pretty important. Got that thing open.
Starting point is 01:09:54 Now we know the world is coming together. Huge weekend of new champions being crowned. the New York Knicks, the Carolina Hurricanes, Gaichi, gone, new champs, crowned at the White House alone. First time ever in the history of a UFC event where everyone ended in a knockout or a TKO. Sick. Just a special weekend of sport.
Starting point is 01:10:11 So I put out a poll. I said, excuse me, X, I have a question for all of you. Good morning, beautiful people. So many new champions on this big crown overreaction Monday. Whose fans are you most happy for? At over 1,200 votes, it was up for two hours. Not bad numbers. Not a bad poll.
Starting point is 01:10:29 29.1% in the back end details had the New York Knicks coming back to dethrone Gachie and Don, who had a lot of fans voting for them. Soccer was third, and then the Carolina Hurricanes in fourth. It's only been 20 years. We don't know what city it's in. I don't want to hear about it, said the pollsters. How about you, AJ, whose fans are you most happy for after this weekend? Do you match his poll with the New York Knicks, or are you going a different direction?
Starting point is 01:10:56 Honestly, I think I've matched the poll. I think with the New York Knicks, whether you like the Knicks or not, it's just pretty cool to see the city of New York and just everybody there. And I know it's easy for some people, they get annoyed by it. I think if they're not in New York people, it's pretty awesome. All of these videos that are coming out, I cannot imagine what the parade will be like. Love seeing the players. I know OG had a great interview earlier. I saw today. I think Strayhand was in on that. The boys seem to be enjoying themselves. And I just, I think the Knicks should be the talk of the town right now. O. G. Cush out there having a time of his life on morning television. I'll like, do whatever you need to do. The parade's on Thursday. It's going to be outrageous.
Starting point is 01:11:35 And obviously, we hate that this is the case, but it is seemingly a fact. Anytime there's a large gathering, there's going to be people that pray upon that. So there were some negative things, obviously, that come out of large gatherings of humans. That's seemingly going to happen. We hate that it is. But the joy that has seemingly come from these New Yorkers through this Knicks team, because you got to remember New York, a lot of what, business, art, music, not really, like, known to be sports as the driver for business around there. It's a lot of different type of investment. Sport being able to bring this type of happiness and unity to that city is special.
Starting point is 01:12:10 I loved it as well, and I think that's why I won the poll. Maybe because, you know, people are thinking New York's good. Maybe because people hated Wemby by the end of that entire series. People are calling him a flopper. This guy's dirty. This guy's a flopper. this guy's disrespectful to America. That's that they started all of them on Wemby throughout out.
Starting point is 01:12:29 Really bit a heel arc. So maybe that's why the Knicks. But I was happy as hell for a city coming together. And Bruce staying up popping champagne. I was also happy as hell for you, Bruce. So congrats to your Knicks fan who win the poll and also the title. Thank you. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:12:43 There was one video out of West Village. I mean, it looks like there's almost 100,000 people out on the streets. They're all singing Empire State of Mind. Just absolute scenes. in New York. I do have a confession on this poll, though. There is a chance that for some reason with like two minutes left, Peter Schrager retweeted the poll to complete the comeback. Who cares? I don't know how that happened. You know, potential tail skipping, scale tipping. But yeah, no, it is. Is he? Okay. Big body, Peter Schroger? I don't care if they do that.
Starting point is 01:13:18 I think there were some M.MA retweets, too, for Gachie, which made a guy quit. That was sick. Huge underdog, unbelievable. I mean, that was the whole fight from top to bottom, but yes, Gachie was awesome. Guys got cinder blocks on his fist. Have you seen the photo of his last four opponents' face whenever he's done with him? And that's just late after the fight,
Starting point is 01:13:35 let alone like 24 hours after the fight comes. Gachi just throws refrigerators at people. Did we know he was like five inches taller than him, too? It felt like to pour it with the weight. The knee of the ribs were just nasty as well. Yeah, I mean, this was very late. Obviously, we watched this in the morning and got a chance to catch up with Gachi.
Starting point is 01:13:53 last week alongside I mean that's just a free shot basically at ilia's important gaichi told ilia after he said i know i'm going to hurt you okay that's what elia said i'm gonna knock off your fucking head in the first round and gaiti goes okay i've been knocked out i've been slept because he said i'm going to do something you never felt before gaitch goes okay dude we're going to have to find out you know like that was gaiji's entire minds as like we're going to find out in there his last fights boom right here can't paralyze yourself you can't paralyze yourself obviously in front of the White House after your biggest win. He becomes champ yet again.
Starting point is 01:14:28 He is a stud, and he is a good American dream story. In his fists, quite people. I don't know what he's got. Look at these dudes' faces. I mean, he just beats the shit out of people. Yeah. Actually, just beats the hell out of people.
Starting point is 01:14:42 I wonder what it's going to look like today for Tuporia. The next day, as your body comes together, it's like, thank you for signing up to do this for us, boys. And Gachi, you making somebody, from another country. Okay, I'm not going to say 4'00 because that sounds rude, but it is. Something for another thing. Throw in the towel in a celebration of
Starting point is 01:15:01 250 years of United States of America in the front yard of the White House. I don't know if that could have been scripted better for Dana. The president. No way. Everything like that. I genuinely don't think that. Especially with him being, what, 5 to 1 underdog? Like that is, that's Rocky. I mean, this is America.
Starting point is 01:15:20 This is... Teperea never lost? Yeah. The sun never set on the British. Empire, you know? That's what they say? They were dominant. We were just, what, 13 colonies? Yep. I mean, what a story there. Now, granted, a lot of huge nights for a lot of people who are not. Diego Lopez starts the entire thing.
Starting point is 01:15:35 Walking out of the White House from Brazil. Okay, that was kind of an alarming visual for me. I'm like, are we doing this? Is this what we're going to be doing all night here? They did. Actually turned into something that I love getting to see the White House in the way that I hadn't seen a lot of those parts of the White House. Maybe in
Starting point is 01:15:51 school I read through, like in civil what's the class civics? Yes, civics. Maybe in civics I read through and saw pictures on like page 50 turn to page 54 here. You're going to see the blah, blah, blah room. That's the last time I've seen any of those things, so I felt like I got a good display of it.
Starting point is 01:16:07 But there was a lot of four. Lopez had a huge night. Gone becomes champ. I mean, congrats to Cyril gone. Just beats the hell. I mean, did we know he was an absolute monster in there? He becomes champion. MMA had a big night. They were so close to winning the poll for good reason. If this on
Starting point is 01:16:23 Saturday night, I'd be pumped up about that. For sure. You know, put that on after the finals. Then we go right into it. Sunday was a little late, but I understand there was a couple birthdays. Had to be celebrated. How about you, Tone? What was the, whose fan base are you most happy for?
Starting point is 01:16:37 I voted for soccer just in general, the soccer fans in general, because of all the reasons we have talked about already today, everyone coming over and just having a great time. It's been so incredibly positive. I couldn't go with the Knicks just because they are just a cocky, arrogant bunch, who, you know, is coastal elitist, who, you know, yeah, was a small amount, but yeah, you're burning school buses and destroying your city. I didn't love that, so it couldn't go with them.
Starting point is 01:16:58 That's fair. Okay, so. It happened. We can't just sweep it under the rug. Did you see the 150,000 people going? Yeah, those people aren't. They were wearing Nick's jerseys, and the people that were beating the shit out of Spurs fans were there. They were in Nick's jerseys, but yeah.
Starting point is 01:17:14 Okay. I understand that there was certainly some despicable things that were happening afterwards. Did you see the banana toss? No. Exactly. Did that? I saw the... You didn't see the banana toss? I saw the school bus burning.
Starting point is 01:17:26 Was that... Okay. Did you see the cone toss? Yes, I saw the cone toss. Okay. Banana toss, similar. Guy throws banana into crowd. Okay?
Starting point is 01:17:35 Okay. Somebody catches it. Throws it back. Guy who threw it catches one-handed. Thought it was AI. Not AI. Guy just threw the banana in the crowd. Go on, lads.
Starting point is 01:17:46 Here's a banana little potassium for you. Coming back. Donate it. Thanks. Catches it. Awesome. Then the cone thing, obviously, that happened? I saw that one.
Starting point is 01:17:54 I mean, it was, there's some magical moments happening out there. You can't let a couple terrible people who do terrible things ruin an overall good thing. But I know we as a society would like to see the terrible things completely disappear. We all would. Exactly. We think that it sucks that it happened. But let's not act like the celebration was something that was overall, overwhelmingly negative. I think it was a unifying situation.
Starting point is 01:18:15 Hopefully. Remember, I saw Fat Joe said he saw Hasidic Jews dancing down in the Bronx or something like that. I mean, it was, this is a good thing. Thursday, we're going to see a celebration. I just voted soccer because I didn't see any bad things from that. I mean, amen, actually. It's one game. It's one game. It doesn't really equate to the others. Well, actually, I...
Starting point is 01:18:35 What, soccer? I think we're talking about the whole thing, yeah. In general, okay, everything in general, but we're still so early on the World Cup. I mean, we still have time for that thing to grow. Yeah, and for terrible moments happen. We're hoping for none of them, by the way, as a society. Ty, who'd you vote for in the poll? Crazy enough, I also voted for soccer. What?
Starting point is 01:18:52 Everybody's pushing soccer. Well, and it's because, you know, like the Carolina Hurricanes, we could kind of see where that was going after game two. I kind of wrote that off. They're going to win the series. So, you know, I kind of made peace with that weeks ago. The other two, sure, I mean, they were awesome, absolutely. But like I mentioned to Grohl, I absolutely hate soccer. Never played it.
Starting point is 01:19:11 Hate watching it will, you know, like, no matter what it is. And, boy, I cannot wait for our game on Friday. I watched the entire game. This past Friday was on pins and needles. And I think it is because, like, we talked about, you know, these previous World Cup teams, it is kind of, it's a boring watch. And it's just like, okay, either we're going to lose a close game to one of these countries that is much more skilled than us.
Starting point is 01:19:38 And maybe we'll have, like, one opportunity to score. And for the first time ever, it was like, oh, no, we are the monsters out here. Like, we are the people that the people are afraid of. It's awesome to be able to get behind that. I don't know if we've ever actually been able to do that as a country. And then all of this stuff is kind of just a cherry on top. And it's one of those things where this happens once every four years. Like who knows when we will get another World Cup?
Starting point is 01:20:02 It might not be in any of our lifetimes. I'm sure it will be because obviously people are seeing what happens when it comes to the U.S. But just the fact that it's in our country and it finally feels like we have a horse who could make a deep run. Like I'm all in. I think fresh out of the Olympics too, we understand how to act like United States. States fans. A lot of people tuned into a hockey game or a couple of them for the women and the men and the Paralympic team had no idea what hockey was. Yeah, exactly. Had no clue what hockey was, but we want. So there's a lot of people who are just like, better than Canada. Just like we thought, best in the world. I feel like people are having that same reaction. Almost the Olympics obviously carried into the NHL. They had the highest ratings that they've ever had, more interest than they've ever had. Obviously, the hurricanes win. And there's a couple, who on a Larkin? No, sorry, not that. Larkin wants out. Who won
Starting point is 01:20:52 Slavin, sorry Slavin, Mr. Slavin, wins Olympic gold and Stanley Cup in the same year. Obviously, there's only a certain amount of people that have done that because both come so irregularly or whatever the case is. But I think Olympic fever started this entire thing and then if the boys would have lost the Paraguay there. Yeah, not good. I'm out if they lose.
Starting point is 01:21:12 I think it's over. I do too. Official out if they lose the Paraguay there. Yeah, not watching another game. Me too. Don't give a shit. But when they win and they win the way they do, it's like, get me on the pitch. I'll do whatever Posh needs me to do.
Starting point is 01:21:26 And we were so lucky to be there. And the vibes. Yeah, how were the fans compared to like, because, you know, like international fans have, they have crazy stuff going on over there. Was so far like that? Yeah, we had a USA chance going. A lot of energy. There was drums, obviously.
Starting point is 01:21:41 Any boozalas? Oh, yeah. Vuvuzelas, certainly inside and outside of the stadium. I'll tell you what. if you show up like 30 minutes late, but like 10 minutes into the game, it's pretty easy getting in, actually. It was actually pretty easy for us to get in there. But everybody's seemingly much more dressed up than me, too. I think I was supposed to be in the upper bowl where there's a lot of party happening or in the thing there. I was certainly outdressed everywhere in there
Starting point is 01:22:09 and the internet let me know that, but just in real time I was experiencing that as well. But it felt like everybody was there. It felt like everybody was there. Gorella talk about the prices to these tickets. I hate that this is becoming a thing. It's seemingly every sporting event that is of any type of matter or anything like that has gotten to the point where the prices are outrageous. All these people are trying to run a business, though. Supply demand, if they're able to get that, they're going to.
Starting point is 01:22:34 It just kind of sucks that we're at this stage because you probably do leave out an incredible amount of fans that could help the atmosphere. I don't know how they took care of the U.S. soccer fans. Like the, there's like a fan base. I don't know. I believe we believe that we, they had a huge portion, so I don't know if maybe Team USA bought that for them or if they were able to do that. Because it did feel alive even though it certainly was a bit suty, you know, where it was certainly a bit suty. But it did feel alive, AJ.
Starting point is 01:23:03 And every, our team was so dominant too. I mean, you got to do stuff like, we're going to celebrate every pass that gets in like in order in concession. I don't know what it is. Usually they're doing that to us. other teams are doing that to us where they're playing keep away from us around the field. As opposed it was us doing a hey, hey, hey. It's fun to watch them and put pressure on them the whole time. Like everything that Paraguayor, it just was hard to do the simple things I feel like for Paraguay.
Starting point is 01:23:31 Yeah, simple things were hard. For us, the hard things were seemingly simple. And if it didn't look that, we weren't scared to reset it. A couple passes all the way back to the goalie. Got a big applause. Like, yeah, boys. Let's settle. Let's settle.
Starting point is 01:23:42 Yeah, smart play. It was cool, man. And Bruce even said it. When you're live watching it, you can see how people fall in love with it. You can see how the moniker, the beautiful game happens, especially if our team's going to play the way that they were playing. But it did feel like an out-of-body experience almost in there, Bruce. Yeah, I haven't been to a ton of soccer matches, but it blew me away.
Starting point is 01:24:05 It was absolutely amazing. And I actually found on a video I had the moment of the ref saying one more shot here. One more. You got one more. One more, boys. Good luck. He's basically telling the boys, good luck. And then we just start playing Keepaway.
Starting point is 01:24:21 And we could have done whatever we wanted here, like it was TST. And then Raina gets the rock. And he's like, actually, I'm going to finish this right now. Could have passed that like two, three more times if you wanted to. Instead, let's end this game. I'm going to go put a nasty swerve in. And then the Reverend was like, all right, fair up. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:24:37 That's it. That's the game. Let's get the fuck out of here. And the boys did all four sides. Oh, I love that. Fan state. I mean, fan state the entire time.
Starting point is 01:24:47 He was like a party in there. And I don't know. Seattle should be awesome too. Yeah. I don't know if we're going to make Seattle so far away. Very far. Do we play at noon? Should they play L.A., Chicago, New York, Team USA?
Starting point is 01:25:00 Yeah, it would be cool. Three Eastern on Friday. About the Riverhound Stadium. Play there. That was packed on Friday. There was videos. Watch. Watch along?
Starting point is 01:25:10 That's incredible. Yeah, so it might be soccer. time. Okay, let's talk about some other things happening around the sports world. The Seattle Super Hawks, oh, Super Hawks, yep. Yeah, I like that, Dave. Hey, the Seattle Superhawks got their sea bowls and rings, and I'll tell you, they are beautiful. They got some power, they got some action, and they were dropped in from the sky as if they were lights. We understand that the Super Bowl ring presentation has become its own celebration. We understand that Super Bowl rings have become actual engineering and creation. I forget.
Starting point is 01:25:44 which team it was that started doing a stadium inside of the ring telling stories. There was somebody that did two rings within one ring. So you had an outside ring and a celebration ring. It's really modern engine. This one flaps wings. We got wings to go out, has a completely different ring. And the Seattle Seahawks had a chance to celebrate that magical run they had last year with Sam Donald in his first year.
Starting point is 01:26:06 McDonald, as his second year head coach out there, a brand new franchise as John Schneider gets a chance to celebrate the second. title that he's basically built from scratch. What a beautiful thing. And the ring symbolizes all of that. And it's also the final time you can look back on last year. Connor. You guys were so close to those rings. How was it seeing all the clips come out, especially with how happy the lads are over there? It was great just to watch it and just relive that night where I basically blacked out after the second half. But no, it is one of those things. Every time the ring comes out, it is just so cool because you remember, you know, how intricate they are. You mentioned the ring inside
Starting point is 01:26:42 the ring. I think the Thunder did that last year where like, hey, if you're going to an event, you don't want to wear the big ass ring. Here's this tiny one. I think the Tampa Bay Bucks when they won during COVID is when they kind of developed that. Hey, open this bitch up. Okay, you thought the outside was cool. Look on the inside. They got all the, you know, teams they beat, all those things. So it is sweet and it is also a reminder that we are very, very close to football coming back. We're damn near halfway through the offseason in total. I don't want to like alarm you, A.J. But it's June 15th.
Starting point is 01:27:15 Soon, it'll be July. It will be soon. Okay, happy birthday. Happy birthday. To America. Two hundred and fifty years. For the July, okay, love that. What's after July?
Starting point is 01:27:25 August. Came. What's in August? Training camp. Let's go to camp, baby. We are. We're here. We're basically there.
Starting point is 01:27:32 Yeah, we are there. Thank you to all these sports right now. Well, it's nice as the World Cup. Bingo. Carry it because normally, not the baseball, wouldn't carry it would be only baseball until football season. July 19th is World Cup final? Is that right?
Starting point is 01:27:48 Great question. Dang. I think that sounds right. Yeah, because it was in like six weeks or so. I don't know. Yeah, July 19. How many games to win at all? How many have to win?
Starting point is 01:27:57 Six, seven? You have the round of 32. You can lose one or two, right? Well, in this opening round here, so we win, okay, Australia beats Turkey. So that's obviously gigantic. We got Australia in Seattle on Friday. If we win that game, we're going to advance. So technically against Turkey, we could play some other guys to get an extra break.
Starting point is 01:28:20 But I assume we want to win that so we get a higher seed so then in the next round we get a shittier team. So it's like you can lose, I guess. There are times where you can lose early. Germany might be able to after they put up a seven burger on a team and they're plus six point differential right now. They could potentially rest for their third game. But then once you get in, there's how many games? I think it's five knockout games because it's the round of 32, 16, 8. semis and then the final.
Starting point is 01:28:43 So eight games in total. Yeah. Three and then five. Because of the more teams, you have more leeway to lose or draw matches and still make it to the knockout run. Gumpy, tell me a little bit about that. Used to be 32 in the World Cup. Now it's 48.
Starting point is 01:28:58 There's a lot of uproar over it. And now that we're here and more teams are involved in it who haven't been there before. And you've seen their culture at the games. It actually has been very cool to watch. And there's been a lot of goals. There hasn't been a zero-zero draw yet. Like right now, Cabo Verde is playing.
Starting point is 01:29:12 playing Spain. I think they were, I think Spain was, what is that? Monash, 600. Cabo Verde, I looked it up, has a, is a nation of 500,000 people, and it's zero, zero in the 70th minute. Wow. They never would have made it before. USA showed up. Now, these teams can obviously get better as they go on.
Starting point is 01:29:29 Like, teams can find it as they're kind of getting in, but we didn't expect America to show up on day one being as good as they are. I think the teams that inevitably win it are good on day one, too. Are they not gumpy? I don't think there's like the stumble out the gates teams that end up. going on to win it. You would know the history obviously better than me. Yeah, the hot start is pretty big in the World Cup generally. Yeah, it seemingly like indicates who, but that, yeah.
Starting point is 01:29:50 And the thing with Germany scored seven, though. Yeah, we can't get to. The USA team, you look at their lineup, though, like, everybody knows their role. And the big question mark coming in, everyone was like, can Malik Tillman play in this holding midfielder role? And he was lights out in that game. Like, I don't think you, you might not have seen it on TV, but the amount of running and his work rate, the whole game was incredible to watch.
Starting point is 01:30:11 We are not allowed to show. highlights. Sure. That's tough. Yeah. That doesn't help grow the game. Just still shot. I get it. Fox pays a lot of money. A lot. And also they're live right now. So if we're showing highlights, there's two TVs and we're showing highlights and they got a game on and ours is USA playing. And there's a Spain and I understand. I understand why they're doing it. Don't love though that we can't, you know, don't love that we can't. Because Balagan's so sick. Everybody's talking about Raina, obviously, as we should. Baligan beating in the box speed.
Starting point is 01:30:46 Left boot, bend upper 90. That was nasty. That is so sick. Pull-sick to split the guys for the first. That was unbelievable. The own goal in there. Yeah, and then there was a, Balagan would have had a hat trick.
Starting point is 01:30:59 He had a goal called back, clearly off sides. But he would have had, he scored two goals in like a three-minute period or whatever. That's not how soccer's supposed to go. No. I think his golden boot went from plus $100,000 something to $1,600 or something like that. Now, yet to be seen. Leo? No, is our team, is the same guy going to go next year?
Starting point is 01:31:20 Or is he, I think that could potentially be one of those, like, kind of have it your way here. Could be anything. Because, like, Weston, McKinney, he got the credit, I think, for the own goal first. He's everywhere. From watching him, he is everywhere. I assume he's going to get on the board a couple times, if I had a guest just from watching him. and then Chris Richards in the back he won the
Starting point is 01:31:44 U.S. Soccer Player of the Year award. We got to break him to him to him. This is the guy. Who's he played for? Crystal Palace? Yeah, Crystal Palace. He's in the back. He is. He's unbelievable.
Starting point is 01:31:57 And there's injury questions leading up to it with his ankle. Thank God he played. He was talking shit to Reams of one of his passes. I respected it. I loved it. Reamer slipped and fell, which once again, he's bigger on the field. We talk about the grass. he slipped and fell on the ground while he had it it got over to chris richards richards they talk about 83 of 83 passes or whatever one of them was him hitting it back at ream basically saying get the
Starting point is 01:32:19 fuck up and it was awesome it was it was in real time you see him he pings this ball at ream reams on his knees this ball is coming like skipping off the grass it's like holy shit that's a little firm there ream cop gets up settles it no problem let's go ahead and pass this thing off it's like everybody's on the same page. Everybody's playing. I think we're going to win. I don't want to continue to talk about it because it's hard not to, but we went from the Seattle Seahawks who Bull Rings back to Team USA. It's hard not to do that.
Starting point is 01:32:48 It is hard not to do that. Okay, let's talk a little bit about the College World Series. Omaha has been hosting the College World Series since 1950. Okay, 76 years. And one field is used at Omaha Mutual.
Starting point is 01:33:05 Charles Schwab. There it is. Charles Schwab. stadium. Got a chance to be there? That's beautiful. Yeah, it's an unbelievable ballpark. I mean, gorgeous, gorgeous ballpark. And you can tell that the players appreciate that they're there. You know, like you can tell that there is very much a respect, a understanding of what the fuck's going on here, how lucky everybody is to be there. I mean, in North Carolina, Tar Heel team, Guzman's stealing home. I called it. I don't want to say I'm a super baseball guy, but I mean, I called this thing. And this was in the first inning of the first call.
Starting point is 01:33:37 College World Series game in the history of the West Virginia Mountain Air Baseball program, and Guzman steals first to second, then I think he gets the third somehow over an overthrow, and then he steals home. It's like, yes, that's baseball, that's fun baseball. I think Troy should have known he was going to steal home, though. I mean, he was way down the line. He was halfway to home on the pitch before. Halfway to home as the guy was pitching, you could tell he was like kind of sensing, can I time this guy up or not? And then usually when the catcher throws it back to the pitcher, the guy on base normally goes back to the base, right? Never even went back to the base.
Starting point is 01:34:12 Like never even went back, just kind of sat in the middle. And that's when I told Bruce, I'm like, Guzman was like all the way at home last time. And then we thought, well, he's going to go. If there's like a miss or a drop ball or something like that, nah, he was just timing it up to steal home. Magical. We lose the UNC. UNC's the team here?
Starting point is 01:34:28 Is that what we need to be thinking? Because I saw a true freshman came in through 97, like nine straight times. And our guys had no idea what was happening. Is that who we need to be banking? on. I don't really think I've seen the other side. UNC and Georgia were the favorites coming in, plus 275, both of them. UNC's unbelievable. Anytime this
Starting point is 01:34:45 freshman comes into a game, they are 27 and O. And then Georgia's pitcher, I can't remember his name, but I believe he had a complete game win as well. 15 strikeouts. Yeah, so they were awesome to start, and they were your favorites coming in. Yeah, and that pitcher from Georgia, I saw
Starting point is 01:35:01 a picture of him pitching. I guess he has that thing all the way out here, and there's like a 95 mile hour slattery is thrown out here. I guess with the way the stadium is built for Ritey's, that ball is coming out of like Section 314 or something like that, and it kind of gets up on top of you quick. It feels like the park long.
Starting point is 01:35:20 Yep. I think Ravi said it was like center fielder black hole, or center field black hole. Somebody hit like 390 or something, but it didn't go all the way out. It feels like you've got to have great pitching, got to have great fielding in this entire thing. West Virginia kind of messed up on both of those against UNC.
Starting point is 01:35:37 but UNC didn't have any mistakes it felt like. Is that the key to this? Is this not making critical errors at the right time? Or why do you win in Omaha? Why do you lose in Omaha? Yeah, definitely not making mistakes because as we've seen in a lot of these games, they're close games and it comes down to a couple runs. Like in that Troy and West Virginia game,
Starting point is 01:35:57 you remember Troy had a couple errors in the first inning that kind of allowed West Virginia to get on the board early. That ends up being a two-run game. And, you know, two of those runs are unearned. So it's one of those things where, yeah, I mean, anyone can win because of the metal bats. And you mentioned it. Like the field is not super long down the lines, but it is pretty big in center.
Starting point is 01:36:17 I mean, last night, North Carolina and West Virginia, you see that kind of, that ball, like you're saying, gets caught in no man's land there. And it's like, do I want to lay out and dive for this? Or do I want to kind of just settle and see maybe hold this to one run? Well, Paul Schoenfield, he lays out. And then, you know, you get a situation like that where both runs are going to score. but like most things in baseball, unless you have an unbelievable offense, which a lot of these teams do, it's always going to come back to pitching in defense. If you have a guy who's throwing 100 miles an hour and throwing a mid-to-high 90s off-speed,
Starting point is 01:36:51 you know, quote-unquote off-speed pitch, like more times than not that guy is going to be able to dominate, like the kid from Georgia did it. He had 15 strikeouts. That's a school record for them. So we'll see because once you get into these single elimination situations, too, literally anything can happen. We, the kid who, was it, Chanson, Cole.
Starting point is 01:37:11 Yeah, Chanson Cole for West Virginia, I would assume he's going to go again for them against Troy. But then again, you never know, because Troy just saw him pitch a couple days ago, and they're probably going to go with a bullpen game. So it's literally anything can happen. And then the winner of that is going to have to beat UNC twice, potentially, to get to the championship. So that's where it really, like, if you haven't lost yet, you are in the driver's seat. I decided not to wear Jordans today. There you go.
Starting point is 01:37:36 Okay? Because we're going to have to beat UNC twice. Yeah, in solidarity. Take it into the finals. Now, Troy's got good baseball team, great fan base. We got to see a lot of their fans out the night before the game on Thursday night. It was nice to see their culture of baseball. This episode is brought to you by Activia.

Joining us now as a man who's been with ESPN since 1993, Maine was on the call for the UNC West Virginia game last night and I assume for the next 10 days he'll be on the call for every big game. Legend friend of the program, ladies and gentlemen, Carl Ravis. Hey, hey, boy, it is good to see you all.
Starting point is 01:38:41 again. Obviously, you're not here this time, but you'll be back here when they're playing in the College World Series finals. I know you will, McAfee. You'll be back here. Yeah, definitely. I'll tell you what, when I talked to you that morning, I was planning on never going back to that place ever again, you know, that was kind of mindful. After I get publicly called out to donate and give hundreds of thousands of dollars and then basically told that I'm some punk whenever I show up there, it was like, okay, interesting place, interesting place here. And then we walk around, you know and before the game before the game we had to do the show so we didn't get to really feel you know we kind of go from hotel straight to there and I was fun fun little story about Thursday night I was in bed
Starting point is 01:39:20 I was in bed the boys were at uh jello shots place and I was like uh I'm I'm calling in a night got a couple texts are like come on how many times you're going to come to the college road series is this western jane's first time I'm like you're right we got to go win this thing so literally bed to that place and basically walk hotel to, I hadn't really felt it. Then I get into that stadium, man, everybody working in that stadium has so much pride for everything that's happening there. There's two holding rooms. There's two locker rooms. Every game is played there. So there's a lot of action, a lot of movement. Fans have to leave. Fans have to come back in. All the fans that are there. Some of them have been there every single year for like 30, 40 years. Some of them pick up teams,
Starting point is 01:39:59 because they're from Omaha, just want to go to the game. So they're adopting teams. And then obviously getting to see the baseball culture and it's full. It was spectacular. I love the vibes. I will be back for West Virginia for anything that they play along with. I did contribute to the jelly jello shot thing. So I feel like I did do it all, but I loved
Starting point is 01:40:18 it, Ravi. Can you tell me about this year a little bit? Because obviously, it's our first year really paying attention to it because West Virginia's there. Is this been a good year for the World Series? It feels like every time I turn it on, something magical is taking place. Yeah, it's been a great year. And again, look, having you here is really important.
Starting point is 01:40:34 helps. It's just another level for the college world series. This is a city like Williamsport, because I do the Little League, that really embraces the event. I mean, Omaha has been the host of this thing for half a century, downtown to last, you know, 20 or so years. Yeah, it is one of the neatest events. And to your point, when you have a Troy or West Virginia here, if you do come to Omaha and you're a fan of just baseball, you tend to side with the teams that have like the longest odds. You tend to side with Troy's. You hop on the West Virginia bandwagon. Country Roads
Starting point is 01:41:09 has turned everything around, man. I mean, that's turned college baseball fans on their head, and if they can win and you can be a part of that, then they're all in on that. And look, I think you guys have talked about it. I saw the segment before he came on. You make mistakes at this
Starting point is 01:41:25 level against really good teams, opportunistic teams like Carolina, you're going to lose. And those errors last night kill them. And they don't ever make those errors. And I heard one of your guys talk about just the vastness of center field. It is massive out there. That ball was up there forever off the bat of Galaher and show infel
Starting point is 01:41:45 couldn't get to it. But again, it was the two errors that led to the two guys on, which led to the two runs. You play a Klan game in your West Virginia and Sabin's got this group fired up. And they've overachieved maybe. I think they're achieving to their level because they're damn good players. They play great defense. Hall is so good at third. It was such an aberration.
Starting point is 01:42:07 Double play ball. Maybe you rush it a little bit. But all the things that you touched on and started to experience, we've been experiencing for 20 years. And yes, the quality of the game and the field is only getting better. Only Carolina has been here the last three years twice. Other than that, you've got 23 new teams over the last three years. Very few championships can say that.
Starting point is 01:42:32 Go ahead, AJ. Yeah, Rabby, can you tell us a little bit about some of the stars that are playing in the tournament right now that we might get to watch sometime in the near future playing in the major league? Yeah, for sure. So you guys talked about Joey Voltsko from Georgia, who threw the other night. 15 strike guards threw a slider from hell. Couldn't get anybody to get a good piece of metal or aluminum on it. So he comes in, Kylie McDaniel is one of our draft experts.
Starting point is 01:42:59 He's got him ranked, I think, is the number 26. seven guy here at the college world series. That's changing. Like he he's rising. So there's been a whole bunch of history of guys that show up here. Thatcher heard did it a few years ago as a pitcher. We saw gauge wood for Arkansas last year throw a no hitter. Stock rises. So A, you get here and you can be on a launching pad. And then tonight you're going to watch Georgia. They got to catcher Daniel Jackson, who's who's sweeping all the postseason award. He's going to win the Golden Spikes Award, which is equivalent to the Heisman in college football. He's won the Buster Posey Award because he plays catcher. He's the best catcher.
Starting point is 01:43:42 Setting records will end up with a triple crown in the SEC, which is unheard of. He'll be at the Major League level shortly. There's a whole bunch, Aidan Robbins, who plays for Texas. Kelly, who plays for West Virginia. All these dudes will be at the Major League level. And guys, and AJ, you're seeing it happen much quicker. Pat, you know this. J.J. Weatherholt was playing for the Mountaineers.
Starting point is 01:44:05 You know, yesterday. Now he's killing it at the major league level. So a bunch of these guys will be there shortly. Yeah, Schino, I think he was like four or five months removed from Omaha to Pittsburgh for the Pirates. Young guys taking over. Obviously, it's a young man's game always going to be. We ran into this guy in the hotel, in the bathroom, actually. And we're washing hands next to each other.
Starting point is 01:44:29 And he goes, hey, how you doing, Pat? I go, great, man. How are you doing? Very tall, handsome, clearly in shape. I had to be a baseball player of some sort. I said, how do you do it? He said, good man. I said, who do you play for? He said, UNC. I go, oh, he goes, we're probably going to have to play your Mountaineers or whatever. I was like, you're going to get your ass kicks. And he laughed, obviously. We walked outside, and he was like, can I get a photo with you guys? I was like, sure, man, no problem. So we took a photo with him. And I was just looking at him, I'm like, we should get a photo with this guy, too, I think.
Starting point is 01:45:01 I didn't know who the fuck he was at the time. I do not know college baseball. I am open, and I am sorry about that. I'm only in because the mountaineers run. I love that West Virginia's getting to shine. I love what Sabins and Masey have created. So I'm a supporter of that. I don't know college baseball anywhere near as much as I should, but I think I'm trying to learn.
Starting point is 01:45:18 So we took a selfie with him. And then your entire, every package, UNC, West Virginia package, everything was this guy. Owen. This is Owen Hall, Center fielder, I believe, for UNC. he's the one. This is like the one for them, right? I learned that through the video packages like, wait, let's see what Owen does. I'm like, fuck, I should have definitely known who this guy was,
Starting point is 01:45:39 but he looked. That picture. He looks the part. Like he certainly looks the part in it all. He's going to be a guy too, right? He's going to the show. Oh, he's absolutely going to the show. And he's one of those guys in every sport. And you certainly see it with football and quarterbacks, especially guys slow the game down.
Starting point is 01:45:56 Owen Hulls, I don't think the heart beats. I mean, I don't. I think he got up last night and just sort of flicked one in the left field. He had four doubles in the super regional clinching game, including the walkoff. He's the guy that comes up with the big hits. And there are certain dudes that you know belong at the next level. Owen Hall is absolutely one of those guys. Gavin Kelly of West Virginia is one of those guys.
Starting point is 01:46:22 They just look better. They feel better. You watch them play the game. there's a real sort of low, slow heartbeat. And then there's a guy like Kenny Ishikawa, who will hit fifth for Georgia. You need a bat on a ball, he'll do it for you. He gets overshadowed in a lineup that's hit
Starting point is 01:46:43 170 plus homers this season. And all he does is hit in the middle of the order. And if you need run scored, he does it. Save that picture. Owen Hall will be an absolute first round pick. He is a stud. That was just strictly off of the vibes. Just strictly off of looking at him, the vibes he gets, this guy's super confident.
Starting point is 01:47:02 I mean, this is... By the way, Eagle Scout, Eagle Scout. It's a big deal. Black Belt and T's a Black Belt and Taekwondo. Both his folks are involved with him. Like literally the guy, and we all grew up with a dude who's, when you said, you remember like the best athlete in your school ever? And I think like, oh yeah, Jimmy's soccer was that guy.
Starting point is 01:47:18 Like, you're irritatingly good at everything. Owen Hall was the kid that was great at everything and still is. I love that Jimmy just got a shout on this conversation. He really did some shit. I think about him and crap. Ravi, you look at this guy. Of course. My man.
Starting point is 01:47:34 But yeah, literally had no idea. Strictly, yeah, obviously he's a black belt. Obviously, he's good to everything. I mean, you can feel it whenever he was just standing there. It just kind of radiated from him. Man, Owen, hey, hate what you did to the mountaineers. Love that we got a photo and got to meet you in a bathroom. Not weird at all.
Starting point is 01:47:52 Not weird at all. I appreciate it. Taya's a question for you, Ravi. Ravi, obviously Georgia and North Carolina have a pretty good grasp on this thing so far. But of all the one-loss teams that are remaining, which one do you think could make this very interesting and potentially kind of push to get into that final series? Yeah, I mean, look, I really do love the West Virginia story. I love everything about Savings. I would think that I would take Texas.
Starting point is 01:48:19 I saw them a lot this year. the last two starts that Dylan Valentus, who arguably is the best pitcher, and he's coming back next year. He's still young. He's not draft eligible. He's had a couple of bumpy starts. I think if any team with the depth of their offense, we haven't seen Sam Cossart, who is a bear of a freshman, literally like, you know, 6-4-270, brother plays at the next level. I think it's Texas. And you talk about the top three in their lineup. They have Aidan Robbins, who's an absolute Major League baseball player, reminds a lot of people with Chris Taylor,
Starting point is 01:48:59 the very versatile guy played for the Dodgers for a long time. Carson Tini is one of the catchers that's in this year's draft, a long line of catchers that are going to impact the major leagues at the next level, just a stud, especially offensively. And then Anthony Pack Jr. is a freshman. Like we saw, and you guys know this, Pat, you watch the game, last night. Caden Globber, who closed the game, should be a high school senior. He should be a high school senior just graduating going on senior trip, and he is as composed as anybody that's thrown a
Starting point is 01:49:31 baseball on this field, and he's like 17 years old. I didn't know he was 17. I knew he's a true freshman. I thought to myself, what a bunch of idiots. They put a true freshman out here in the ninth inning. We're not out of this. We got home run. We tie this thing up. This is what the mountaineers have done. They put a freshman out there. In my head, I'm like, Savings. They're spitting in your face right now in your team culture. Then he gets up there. Yeah, right. This kid's 17 throwing 97 in the same exact, same exact spot. I mean. Yeah, he's scary, man. The other point was Anthony Pack, who plays for Texas, plays left field, hits third, is a freshman. He hits in the middle of the order, had the best batting
Starting point is 01:50:11 average of any player in the SEC, and he's a freshman. That's the point about Weatherholt and these other guys. It's not only that you graduate college or leave as a junior and get drafted and make an impact, kids are leaving high school, some leaving early, and make an impact in the best conference that there is in college baseball. McDuffy kid, there's something in his glasses. Did you guys check for AI in there? Did you check for any of those? Because you know, they got these glasses of AI right now. Meta's actually giving them to all the blind vets. Have you heard about this? Congratulations. U.S.C. and META. I believe they're donating AI glasses to blind veterans, I do believe.
Starting point is 01:50:53 So they have this technology. This kid's allowed to wear AI on his face while he's out there pitching. Is this getting checked? He was unbelievable. He had the ball on a string. Actually had the ball on a string the entire night watching him. I think he should not be allowed to wear those. I think we've got to check those with the modern technology, Ravi.
Starting point is 01:51:11 It's the reverse. It's the reverse Steve Austin. Remember the $6 million man? You know, he could sort of see through some. fake eye that he had. Yeah, maybe that works for him. I will say this. He was a shortstop in high school. He tore his ACL decided, you know what, I'm going to go to the mound. And he turns out throwing baseballs like this. This is why Carolina is one of the teams that a lot of people look at us, one that's going to get to the College World Series finals. That and the fact that Texas and
Starting point is 01:51:39 Georgia are on the same side of the bracket. And Carolina is not. They have three great pitchers. So if your boy, Glauber, may end up starting their next game to get them into the finals. Or they decide, you know what? If we can win the next game, we could start him in game one of the finals, which would be a big advantage to go with the other dudes they have. Let's see who they're playing. Okay. Let's see who the – Troy just knocked out Ole Miss. I heard that wasn't supposed to happen.
Starting point is 01:52:02 No. I heard that wasn't supposed to happen. In West Virginia, for the first time, long time, got punched right in the mouth with their own mistakes. Yeah. Let's see how they respond. He's a close game all night. Mazey said he wants blue-collar boys only, right? He does.
Starting point is 01:52:14 Tough guys, right? Let's see if they're mentally tough. Or is the moment too big for him in their first trip to Omaha? We shall see. Ravi, we appreciate the hell out of you, man, for joining us. And also for voicing over these magical moments from Omaha for so long. We are very lucky to experience it. We cannot wait to get back out there.
Starting point is 01:52:30 I can't wait to see you all out here. Thanks very much for having me again, much. Thank you. Did you move your microphone? Because at the beginning, you had a shadow on your mic that looked like you had a piece of black tape on your face. Yeah, there is. Is that better? Yep.
Starting point is 01:52:42 Maybe I can hide behind it. Oh, like the neighboring home improvement. Wilson. Wilson over there. Kevin Durant going into that one restaurant. You're the man, ladies of gentlemen, Carl Ravis. Yeah, Robbie. That was comedy, by the way.
Starting point is 01:52:57 We haven't really talked about that. KD, you are fucking hilarious. You are hilarious. You need to know that. Do we not talk about anything? Spain and Curisosos just officially tied. Zero, zero. Holy shite.
Starting point is 01:53:11 That might be one of the biggest upsets of all time. Well, I guess it wins. That's no soccer, by the way. Zero, zero. Zero. So there's not a goal in every single match. That ruins. The Louisville Knights won the UFSX.
Starting point is 01:53:24 They're the Kings. They do. Be a friend, tell a friend something nice. Might change their life. We'll see you tomorrow. We appreciate the hell out of you. Goodbye. All right.
Starting point is 01:53:36 Sugar Sean. Through a guy's face. He's back. Great intro. Everything. Yeah, he did good. Ticea, he killed it.
Starting point is 01:53:46 Yeah, well, what the fuck was that? So why was Tyson Fury? Like a 10-minute walkout and then an interview. I don't think I fully... So he's fighting Anthony Joshua. Maybe. Maybe. That was the only miss from last night.
Starting point is 01:54:00 That just felt, I felt like I was in bizarre a world and that was happening. Yeah, because he was clearly supposed to come out and make an announcement. That's why he gets the full big intro. Yes. Only people getting these intros. Fighters, president. Right. And Tyson Fury.
Starting point is 01:54:13 and two heroes, three heroes sometimes alongside the fighters. Those are the people getting to walk out of the fucking White House at the 250th birthday. And also, see, Tyson Fury. Yeah. Okay, it was hilarious? I was like, is Tyson Fury about to walk into the Octagon right now? Like, what the fuck's going on? I don't think anybody expected Tyson Fury to walk out of their shadows in a White House.
Starting point is 01:54:34 No. What in the night was this? I'll say, like, 65, 70% of the way through. Okay. After the Chandler fight, right? I think after like the third fight on the card. He might have kept it in the back pocket if there was a bunch of knockouts and maybe guys had to warm up earlier, which could have potentially happened.
Starting point is 01:54:50 They're trying to fill time. So maybe this was one of those. But Tyson Fury, I think in his first trip back to America in a long time, gets introduced coming out of the White House. He walks all the way up to John Anick. Incredible job, Anick. Hey, you cut a couple promos about the United States of America that were obviously well thought out,
Starting point is 01:55:08 obviously free from the brain. There wasn't a teleprompter being read. massive respect for all that. Joe and Dana Cormier calling a huge moment being the soundtrack of that entire thing. The live music with the live singing, all of it.
Starting point is 01:55:20 Phenomenal through that. This made no sense. He comes out and goes, maybe Dino will make an announcement. I'm going to leave that to Dina. And then Dana comes out. He's like, we got one coming later. It's like, how was this?
Starting point is 01:55:30 How was this? So what was this? Hey, I think Dyson Fure is fighting on a Zoufa card. Okay. Yeah, sounds like, maybe. Two not fight in August. Is that what everybody on Earth just was like, is that what were you?
Starting point is 01:55:41 guys are trying to say there or Tyson Fury just has an appreciation for what he's done. He just gets to walk out of the White House on 250. I was very confused. Very confused. But that's Tyson Fury Football. Exactly. And aside from that, that was the only one. Legit, everything else was
Starting point is 01:55:57 unbelievable. That flyover, dude. Dana. That was awesome. Oh, my God. This is the greatest thing I've ever seen in my life. Zach Brown with the band was awesome. Oh. Great fit. Pastrano and the boys are on Saturday. They were just doing flippy floppies.
Starting point is 01:56:13 They were doing flippie floppies. They were on Saturday for the festival, obviously, which led off to it. And 90,000 at the Ellips Park across, is that over a two-day span? Is that what we're assuming? It looks. Like one of those people? Yeah, assuming total, but they were still a lot of people there were last night, but 90,000. I appreciated the fighters going across the street onto the stage, and the stage was built for them to come out there and do that.
Starting point is 01:56:32 So I like that that was the forethought. Like, hey, fighters then also go across street, go say thank you to everybody that's here. Because the way-ins, the amount of people there were. at the way it was absurd because there's people wondering like how big of an event it was going to be. There was obviously a lot of criticism of this particular event. I think the straight being announced that it was open like 20 minutes before this event happening, I think took away a lot of tension potentially from a lot of people that were maybe even there or maybe they were potentially talking about it. There's still a lot of world problems going on that maybe we should take care of
Starting point is 01:57:04 instead of worrying about a fight in our front yard, okay, is what some people would say. But I think that success happening, that signing of the straight opening, right before it, and then the weather holding off, and then the spectacle being awesome, you couldn't help but watch that, no matter what side of the aisle you're on and say, like, that was a fucking hell of an event.
Starting point is 01:57:23 That was, the White House looked sweet. I mean, it looked sweet. And every fight was a knockout. Yeah. It's all you want. If they, if they do not keep the claw up, which I know that's been rumored that they might keep this up, where does it go? Like, you can't just scrap
Starting point is 01:57:41 bad thing. So Dana said it was from Europe and then they had to build it in Philly, then they had to drive it into D.C. or whatever because it was so big. So I don't know if it just becomes a gift like the Statue of Liberty. Is that what people are thinking? It would fit over the dome if we wanted to.
Starting point is 01:57:57 Over a Thunderdome? Oh. That wouldn't be bad like a roll cage for the Thunderdome. Yeah. Send him a text. Send him a text. I did potentially talk. Dana was at the hospital on Friday, Walter Reed.
Starting point is 01:58:10 That was Friday right before we went into the game. I was visiting with a bunch of troops and vets and everything. And the showcase of the veterans, by the way, and the troops that was taking place at that exact time through it all. I'm happy they got a night. You know, because obviously a lot of them probably massive UFC fans just naturally and they're trading that whole thing. Yeah, I got a chance to chat with Dana on Friday as he was going through to hospital
Starting point is 01:58:31 saying what's up and saying thanks to everybody. It really felt like they pulled it off. Oh, yeah. Considering how it could, I mean, they were acting like the weather was going to ruin everything. and how humid it was supposed to be and the bugs and everything. Yeah, the wind. None of that stuff came through on the broadcast. It, you know, until they kind of did like the big pan out, you see everything,
Starting point is 01:58:53 it was like, oh, you could, if you didn't know any better, it'd be like, oh, this is at Caesar's Palace or this is in the apex or, you know, whatever. Dana, I'll never do it again, but yeah, happy we did it. I'll never do the sphere again. Happy we did it. Yeah. Okay. 60 million. We're a publicly traded company now.
Starting point is 01:59:09 We're just publicly telling people, yeah, we're fucking losing. our ass on this thing. That's normally not great. But it does feel like Dana is somebody that if he has a vision, he's going to do it. And I hope it was exactly what he hoped for. I don't know how it could have got better.
Starting point is 01:59:26 Yeah, exactly. It felt like everything went off perfectly. Fights especially, like the most important thing all went great. Sugar Sean's back. That's good for him being able to knock somebody out. Because there was a worry if the right hand
Starting point is 01:59:41 from Sugar Land could still do your job, you know? And guess what? He looked good from the start, man. He looked really in control, looked comfortable like he was off. Yeah, and also this guy, Canadian National Anthem. Okay, to start it all off. All right. Okay.
Starting point is 01:59:59 I don't know if Sugar Sean felt the same way I did as I was a. It was blaring. Did you hear, did you see that and hear that entry? Oh, yeah. I mean, that's a choice, right? That was a decision that was made. Certainly. It's like, all right, I respect it for your country.
Starting point is 02:00:15 I do. I respect you doing that for your country. See also, Sugar Sean, this guy needs to be slept. This guy needs to, this can't be happening. A White House? No, no, no, no. Shout to Canada, by the way. Created a lot of great things.
Starting point is 02:00:31 That's right. Yeah. See also. Pretty me too. That was the choice. What was it? They played an arena singing the Canadian National Anthem? I didn't see it.
Starting point is 02:00:44 That's what it felt like. That's what it felt like, because I'm like, this isn't the U.S. band. They're not doing this. Yeah, there's no way. And there's no way that the troops and everybody that was there are like, all right, let's sing it for this guy. I don't think there was any of that. I don't think there was any of that happening.
Starting point is 02:00:58 So that was a decision that was, obviously, Dana, by the way, Dana just says you could say, do whatever. Hey, if you want. You could say, do whatever you the fuck you want. I thought that was a hell of a healed decision, though, to run the Canadian National Anthem, Arena, sing-along version, and then come on out to Drake. obviously more Canadian, which Drake is obviously a great American asset as well.
Starting point is 02:01:23 Shebang on everybody's post for everything right now. I didn't know that he had three albums. All of them had hits on him, I guess. Ricky Martin? She bang, she bang, oh baby. How are you talking about? When she looks like a bee, she stings like a bee. Oh, baby, when she moves Is that what we're talking? No.
Starting point is 02:01:49 Shabang. Oh, okay, shabang. S-H-A-Bang. Like the whole shebang? That's sick. Yeah, it is. It's everywhere. I didn't know Drizzi had three different genres
Starting point is 02:02:00 he was going to do that in, but he certainly did. Rican Martin had that type of pace at one point. Here we go. O'A, Oleg, O'A, O'A, O'A, O'E. Go, go, go. O'A, O'le, O'le. Tonight.
Starting point is 02:02:15 the night we've come to celebrate Here we go Ola, Oleg, O'le, O'A, O'Le'A. I think that was a World Cup song. Definitely should have been. A Cup of Life. Should be now. Add that in. He performed a Cup of Life at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2006. It was unbelievable.
Starting point is 02:02:31 Unbelievable. 2006. Yeah, we remember that was before we had access to everything on our phones, the way that we do now. These kids would never understand what those types of shows meant to society back in the day. Can't believe they're still going. They are, though.
Starting point is 02:02:45 Yeah. Oh, yeah. We're back. Absolutely crushing it. Absolutely crushing it. How are the songs going? I saw Future and Tyler did their thing. We got a chance to watch that.
Starting point is 02:02:53 It wasn't bad. Shakira was awesome to open the whole thing up. Once again, we're back to soccer. Did we, do we expect this? I just had to stop myself right there. It's kind of taken over. I got the fever. Me too.
Starting point is 02:03:04 Do we play next? Big time. Yeah, Australia. We play the soccer ruse. Friday. We play socceroers. We play socceroes. We're favorites.
Starting point is 02:03:10 Three o'clock. You're damn right. We are favorites. We're supposed to beat Australia. but the thing about it is they weren't supposed to be turkey. No, they weren't. They're very compact at the back. They're very well organized.
Starting point is 02:03:20 They play five at the back and hit the long ball. They got this striker up front who's fast as hell. We were plus 110 against Paraguay, thank you. And minus 165 against Australia. Do what you're able with it. Anyone counting? 18. It ain't fucking ready for the big anything.
Starting point is 02:03:39 25. Nah. There's a lot more than 18. Yeah. Like 120. The soccer ruse ain't ready for the fucking big. engines we got they just aren't you love that as soon as grueless yeah big time what does that mean exactly hustle royalty respect we're motor motor motor never stopped running work rate
Starting point is 02:03:56 diesel fuel to be to be to be still like 11 max crosbys out there yes bingo 11 mad max fans yes okay black boy max augo would be considered a big engine yes you were a big engine big motor They're high motor guys. Lunch bail. Usually. There it is. Yeah. First one and last one out.
Starting point is 02:04:15 That's what big engines mean. Americans kind of have that in soccer. I guess Grella just taught us that. We do. Japan used to be known for that. Oh, yeah. Japan would run you to death. Like, that was kind of their thing.
Starting point is 02:04:27 We are just going to run you, and we're just going to be smothering, and then they'd inevitably get you tired, and then they'd take advantage of you. We did that to Paraguay. We outran them. We were faster than them. We suffocated. And you could tell they were like, like tapping out of them. It was almost
Starting point is 02:04:42 like they just fuck. There was a lot of that coming from Paraguay. I didn't know that that's what we are known for, but I like it. If you can run better than the other team, you're going to win in soccer more often. I like how it sounds like Ponch is kind of keeping the guy like he's definitely doesn't sound like he's buddy-buddy with everybody. He's keeping him kind of on their toes
Starting point is 02:04:59 and kind of nervous and I think that's not a bad spot to be. I don't think he speaks the clearest English either, so email might be the best way to kind of, just like how we're reading all these tweets from Japan. Yes. Translate. Same thing.
Starting point is 02:05:12 Sentence. I think that's part of it. But I do appreciate that he just is coming in and said, this is embarrassing. I'm fucking sick of it. I ain't your fucking buddy, okay? Jumpy, tell me if I'm wrong. The amount of, and they're like, I can't,
Starting point is 02:05:29 don't want to hear it. This is what we're doing. Guys are running full speed? Hey, fuck out. Yep, we're doing it. That Diego Luna, I love him. I absolutely love Diego Luna. I don't know if he could have kept up with what this team is doing.
Starting point is 02:05:44 It's not a big engine. I think he's got a good work rate. He's got an okay engine. He's got a good work rate. Maybe ethanol though, not diesel. That's what I say the engine. I don't know if it is a V8, which we got. These guys are just buzzing around turbo charge.
Starting point is 02:05:59 Yeah, that's right. Yeah, we're talking. Twin turbos. Yeah, nitro too. Yeah. You know, that's what's happening. You know, that's what's happening. Right.
Starting point is 02:06:07 Cigarette boats. Yeah. Big fart buckets on the tailpipe. you know those things that are happening that's what we got going on well said fucking yeah that's what we got Diego Luna I don't think he can run with this team not yet is that accurate Gumpi Americans can we can run we're running we're running we ran paraguay to death we ran them until they quit or are we gonna be able to do that the whole time that's what Grella's asking yeah you can because all of these guys are
Starting point is 02:06:33 playing in the big leagues now like Alex Freeman he got a transfer to Villa Real he's 21 years old he plays right back he's all over this place everybody's playing in England. They're playing in Italy. These guys have been playing like this all season, so they're ready for this tournament. I love it. Let's go, boys.
Starting point is 02:06:49 Here we go. We're going. We're going to go, boys. We're in on sports. We're in on life. We're thankful we get to do this. Let's go watch some World Cup soccer. Hell yeah.
Starting point is 02:06:57 3 o'clock. AJ, anything you'd like us to hit that we haven't hit? Wins Renoldo play. You've asked that twice now. That's a good question. I know. What team's he playing? What are he's he playing for?
Starting point is 02:07:08 Portugal. They're saying this is the best. Portugal team. there's ever been with him on it. They play Wednesday. The money is not an international play. That was where he chose to go play his club soccer, Saudi Arabia.
Starting point is 02:07:23 International, he's still from Portugal. Gotcha. So for all these teams, you know, all these leagues, Gumpy talks about, you know, there's tournaments every single weekend. Do they just take two months off every time the World Cup? Yeah, it's international break, I believe. Gumpy. Yeah, the summer's
Starting point is 02:07:38 usually the time that they're off. All the seasons are done. So... Except for the MLS is the only league that plays during the summer. But the MLS is changing their calendar to match. Remember, that was the big deal from primetime sports, whatever, with the commissioners. That's the big story about the MLS is they're changing their calendar to match everybody else. So when international breaks happen, they can happen. Because the fear is with the MLS, one to take its next step, you can't get any real players.
Starting point is 02:08:05 Because when international play comes, there's always going to be some shit with MLS still playing, while everybody else is taking a break. So maybe we can attract more players, bigger name players, international players to the league if we get on the same cycle. So the same international break. And we're changing. That just means it could be four degrees,
Starting point is 02:08:22 some of these games. And they are getting another big name player. Robert Lewandowski, Barcelona, Bayern Munich legend is signing with the Chicago fire. Wow. Levindowski is going to Chicago? You know why? He's a dog.
Starting point is 02:08:35 You know why? Where is he from? Poland. Poland? Thank you. A lot of Polish in Chicago. That's right. I got a couple. The only reason he's going.
Starting point is 02:08:47 Got a couple Polish friends with no future, okay? You up there in your ivory tower, making moves. We'll see. Vince Vaughn. Yeah. What movie is it? That is the one with Jennifer Anderson. The breakup.
Starting point is 02:09:01 Vince Fawnhead. I took some liberties there because there's some stuff in there. I didn't know if I could say or not, so I did it right. But sounds about, yeah. Everybody's kind of learning what they can and can't say. in real time. A lot of people saying stuff. A lot of stuff coming back that we're going to, I can't wait to say it on this show.
Starting point is 02:09:17 I can't wait to hear it. I'm pumped for you too. I'm pumped for you too. What's the opening, what's the opening thing say that we run on here? Do not reflect the opinions of others on microphone. The opinions expressed on the show do not necessarily reflect the beliefs of their peers,
Starting point is 02:09:37 their boss, or ESPN. There may be some cuss words because that's, That's how humans in the real world. We might have to add to the cuss word thing, just better descriptors or what might be coming down to pipe. Just kidding. I'm not going to take a trip back to 2003 locker rooms, which there's a lot of people.
Starting point is 02:09:53 Kind of coming back. I've been very alarmed that that is just so casual out in out. People have just had it. We're out there at Omaha. Oh, yeah. And people just walk up, just casually. First thing they're saying to me, and I'm like, holy fuck.
Starting point is 02:10:09 I didn't know it's like. They're like, well, you, you? I'm like, all right. We're all living out here. We're all living out here. We're all living out here. Good luck. We're just trying to be happy. Everybody's trying to have a good time.
Starting point is 02:10:19 Sports are the greatest. We're lucky for that. What are we on tonight, Tone? I am on. There's a Belgium. I'm on Belgium and Uruguay together. That's plus 126. If you want, there's a 50% bonus for World Cup right now.
Starting point is 02:10:33 That takes that to plus 190 for Belgium and Uruguay. There's also MLB tonight. There's also College World Seas. series tonight. So you really get down on whatever you want. College World Series. Who's playing tonight? Tonight, there's Georgia and Alabama and Texas and Alabama and Texas.
Starting point is 02:10:50 That's two elimination game. Georgia Oklahoma at 7th. Is that kid throwing the 95 Slaughter kid? Probably not. Fuck. Slaughter from hell, as Ravi says. So apparently there's stands back there that are like a whitish color. Oh, they don't have a good enough, they don't have a big enough
Starting point is 02:11:08 backdrop. Oh, no. They have a huge batterer. his eye, but he's way out here. I guess that fucker's like... That's like your arm angle. Isn't that where your arm angle? You change your slot. Yeah, my sloth is a little bit more like this, which I've seen more throwing like this, by the way, which makes me feel a little bit more comfortable about my arm build and where I'm at in my life.
Starting point is 02:11:25 But I guess his reach is just fucking outright. It's like Ms. It's like, hey. You want to talk about a guy on fire? Yeah. Yeah. Mids. Can't wait to watch this. Good luck out there, boys. It's a Mizoroski guy. Hey, front of the program. Last year makes the All-Star game. having five starts, everybody's pissed off.
Starting point is 02:11:43 Everybody's pissed off that he makes it in there. But it felt like everybody actually playing baseball. I was like, nope, this guy, this guy's the one. Media was pissed. Fans were pissed that he made the All-Star game. Should have been a guy from Philadelphia who had a lot more starts than he did. But it felt like all the players kind of understood why this guy was given an All-Star nod at such a young start and such a fresh start.
Starting point is 02:12:06 This year he's breaking every record known mankind. He goes seven, he goes seven innings. last eight starts. I think he's going full games. Did he not go a full game? Yeah, he had what is called a Maddox, which is where you don't throw that many pitches and you throw a complete game, and he had 15 strikeouts. So you factor that in. He's striking out 15 guys only throwing 98 pitches. He has the best stuff in baseball, and it's not particularly close. Like, skines, guys like that are obviously unbelievable. This guy throws so fucking hard. It's just like, you know, if he does get hit, there's a chance he's going to give up homers, but it's just, it's really hard to hit 105 mile
Starting point is 02:12:41 our fastball and then on top of that he's throwing a fucking 97, 98 mile an hour cutter or slider. It's just when he's on, he's as close to unhittable as there is in the majors. Okay, so him, Shohei, Schino, what's the Super Duper Pitcher Award? Tsai Young. Saoyang is the, it's both leagues. Yes, correct. Is there one though, or does one, like how do we, what are the awards will be given? There is, there's Sai Young for A.
Starting point is 02:13:09 and NL. He's pitching well enough where he will probably, if he can continue this, he'll get MVP consideration. Okay, so that's like in the NFL, MVP and offensive player of the year. Right. Normally, position player that could have won MVP will win offensive player of the year. This one,
Starting point is 02:13:25 MVP, potentially most dominant pitcher, and then you got two pitchers winning the NL and AL two. So you can celebrate three pitchers as opposed to it. Yeah, it's very rare that a pitcher wins MVP. Cy Young is like the equivalent of the pitching MVP, but he's I mean, I'd be curious what his odds are.
Starting point is 02:13:41 The last time a pitcher won MVP was Kershaw in 2014. NL. Sai Young, Ms. is minus 140 with Chris Sanchez plus 220. Those two have been the most dominant, with Shohei being plus 1,200, and Skeen's $1,500 right and then MVP, what are his odds?
Starting point is 02:13:57 MVP, the odds for MVP, his odds are plus 8,000. Shohei is minus 1,600 because he does both. Unbelievable. Yeah, he does both, so it's kind of hard to... But he would be, like, I might bet him after the show.
Starting point is 02:14:15 Because if he keeps doing this, it'll be like the, it'll be like the single best pitching season of all time. Miz? Yeah. But show hits as well. So there's a chance they give show the MVP. Schino will then get the, and then Ms. gets the, or they're Miz and Schino on the same side? Yeah, Ms. and Schoenol on the same side. And Shoah?
Starting point is 02:14:33 Also, it's... Holy fuck, Schino. It's not his fault. Schino's six and six. He got it last year with the bad record. I think he's six and nine actually. Sure? I thought he was six and six. Maybe he is six and nine. They just, they don't help him out. I mean, he's seven and Ms. is seven and
Starting point is 02:14:47 O and his last. So if you are getting wins and then you're also striking guys out and not giving up runs, like there really isn't much of a competition between him and Schino in that regard. Fuck. Low is the RA since 1913. Will the Brewers be able to pay him? Thank you, Sarah Lange. They've paid
Starting point is 02:15:03 guys in the, they've paid Yelich in the past and stuff like that. They're not going to let him go anywhere. Good. Hose. I'm going to just give it to you real quick fashion. You've ever seen it? Hey, 105. Yeah. The only thing with him, his arm might just explode.
Starting point is 02:15:19 And his knee. Yeah. That left knee hyper extends. He is Gumby like those. Yeah. And he didn't even really hurt him. He might be like Phelps. Phelps was built to be a fish.
Starting point is 02:15:30 Yeah. You know, like the way he was. Ligemines like Linguini. Yeah. This Miz guy might have the same. He was literally born. He's further reaching everybody, right? Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 02:15:39 But he's not the tallest. But he has the furthest reach as everybody, so he has the longest strad. His knee hyper extends seemingly every single pitch. It doesn't matter. He just kind of walks it off. He's utilizing literally every part of his body to generate power. And it happens on every pitch for 70 straight pitches. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:15:54 It's nuts. It's supposed to be a closer to this guy. He's listed at 6-7. So he is pretty tall. Go player. He's definitely a tall, lad. Fuck. Is he the tallest pitcher in the league?
Starting point is 02:16:05 No, I think there's guys like 6-10, but... Holy fuck. Let me see. He's tall, though. He's very tall. Probably 6-9 in spikes. Especially up on that bump. On that, Matt.
Starting point is 02:16:15 Yeah, exactly. He looks like he's 7.5. And he feels like he's 20 feet tall. Bailey over is who goes for the twin. Maybe not the twins anymore. 6-9. Imagine Major is just sitting there knowing what he's about to do to you. And you're going to fucking walk in.
Starting point is 02:16:29 Well, I don't think there's any way you can replicate that. Like, if you've faced him before, maybe. But, like, I understand a lot of guys throw hard. I don't, like, even these guys who are seeing guys throw heat every day. like seeing a 105 mile an hour fastball, like, I just, I don't know how your brain can even, like, get to the point, like, okay, now I need to swing. Like, you need to start fucking swinging when he's, yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 02:16:49 Mookie Betts gave an answer about that. Like, you don't really realize how hard it is hit a 100 mile an hour fastball. But, like, the difference between that and 105 is exponential. Yeah, he threw the fastest pitch ever thrown by starting pitcher. So obviously that's good. All right, well, he'll keep going. He's young, too. Yes, very.
Starting point is 02:17:06 U.S. soccer team, very young. Boom. San Antonio Spurs, very young. What? I worry that the worst possible thing for the NBA was the Spurs losing because now he's going to be motivated to go get a bunch of him. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:17:24 Yeah, they're calling him a child. I was going to need to see him pot a little less before I'm completely there. I use a potter. Victim. Victim one but young. is what Skip said. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:17:42 Right. Speaking of miserable. Still got it. It's closer if you need it. That was fun to watch. Not for Victor. I assume it wasn't fun. But it was fun to kind of watch that entire narrative change about him multiple times.
Starting point is 02:17:56 Crazy. Yeah. Even in the conference finals, it was like, we hate this guy. No, we hate SGA more, though. Definitely. Yeah, you're right. Oh, he's taking on New York. We hate New York.
Starting point is 02:18:08 Wait a minute. This New York team's pretty likable. This fucking guy actually getting away with a lot of stuff. This foreigner. Oh, he's collapsing down the stretch. This guy's whining. This guy's pounding. This guy's a cheap shot. Fuck this guy.
Starting point is 02:18:20 We like New York actually now. Never thought we'd say that. That was kind of, I mean, it was a pendulum. It changes quick. So quick. And then going into the off season. Powder, Joker. Get him the fuck out of here.
Starting point is 02:18:32 Guys, French. What are we even talking about? It's like, wow. So he hears all of that. Yeah. He hears all of that. of that. Somehow he's going to get taller. I don't know how that's going to work.
Starting point is 02:18:43 Somehow he's going to do that. Good for him. All right. It's good hell out of here watching games. Thank you, sports, so much for being great. Thank you, sports. And thank you for allowing us to do this all. Last year, we, or last week, we had NBA Finals alt-cast,
Starting point is 02:19:02 program feud against NFL Live, Omaha College World Series, World Cup game Stanley Cup champion crowned NBA champion crowned and an American knocking out a foreigner in front yard
Starting point is 02:19:16 not knocking out making a foreigner quit in the front yard of White House it's been a hell of a run for sports and for us and it only happens because all of you let us do it I'm not even getting into it
Starting point is 02:19:30 I'm at a different stage of my life now I don't need dive into everything that everybody says I don't need to tell the world everybody that I hate I don't need to do that anymore. Ain't the right, AJ? I don't need to do that anymore. You don't need to, but if you feel the need, you can.
Starting point is 02:19:42 See, you got a lot of maraudo in you right there, that answer. That's what Nick always told. If I knew exactly who you were talking about, I could determine whether I want to push you or not. Only one way to find out. That's always the problem. We're not going to do it. We are lucky to be a part of sports. We're thankful to be a part of sports, and we will continue to be a part of sports.
Starting point is 02:20:01 For as long as you will have us. Be your friend, tell your friend, something nice. to my change your life for our listening together. Team on me, team on three. One, two, three. Team. Goodbye.
