Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello, beautiful people. A welcome to our humble abode, the Draft King's Thunderdome. On this big NBA Tuesday, June 23rd, 2020, 26, this sports program begins out. The greatest of all time, and obviously tonight is the NBA draft as the next generation of superstars,
Starting point is 00:00:19 or at least hopeful superstars, get selected to their teams. Congratulations to Washington. Get a chance to change you all. Then Utah Jazz, obviously, we are very familiar with everything they have going on in Utah. gone through some hard times that they've gotten to a spot where they think they're not going to have to suck going forward to number two overall pick, maybe out of Kansas. I mean, who obviously
Starting point is 00:00:42 has some question marks because, you know, he did just kind of pull himself out of some games when he was at Kansas. Now, was he just preparing his body to become a pro? Was he not ready? Was he or something else going on? Who knows? A lot of questions obviously being asked. And as a outsider looking in, I think it's kind of abnormal, but this is modern sports world. And allegedly, he has the talent that you can't pass up, but who knows what the jazz do after number one, Daibanza, I guess, out of BYU, which obviously Utah Jazz number two overall. So like, if he was to end up in Utah, that would be like a dream, I think, for all parties over there, but probably not going to get past number one overall pick. We'll certainly have to
Starting point is 00:01:20 chat about what's going on tonight as the next draft happens, but we'll have Richard Jefferson joining us in about 10 to 15 minutes or so. He'll be on the coverage this evening, and he's fresh out of the 10-year anniversary celebration of the Cavaliers team that won the title. They were on like a 4, 5, 6, 7, 8-8 day trip. Yep, look good. Look like a great time.
Starting point is 00:01:42 Everybody was there. It was nice trip back in time for those of us that watched it in real time. Kevin Love was doing his thing over there in Cleveland. Obviously, Iman Schaumpert was on the team. J.R. was on the team. Richard Jefferson is over there. Don't worry about Delanova. Yeah. This guy came from Australia.
Starting point is 00:01:58 He's on the damn team. It was a whole reliving of the good old days as it looked like the cavaliers were having a time of their lives. And you have to wonder, LeBron James thinking about retirement, a lot of golfing, doing anniversary trips, having a time of his life, looking like he's having a lot of fun. Gray beard. Nothing wrong with that? Obviously, he's in negotiations allegedly with the Lakers right now to come back and play for another year. But we'll ask Richard Jefferson about all this, what he learned during the trip and what
Starting point is 00:02:24 his thoughts are about LeBron James may be playing with another draft class. Okay, that's how we can kind of tie tonight in with everything else that's happening in Richard Jefferson's life. And then obviously we'll have to talk about Yonis. Antitocompo is now a member of the Miami Heat. Wow. Holy hell. Pat Riley did it. The Miami Heat make another massive, massive move to bring another title back down to South Florida. Now, whenever you think about the Yonis story and getting traded out of Milwaukee, he had been there for
Starting point is 00:02:58 a decade plus. He'd won an NBA title there. But over the last year or so, you know, since about May 2025, I would say, the world had been wondering if Yonis and the Bucks were going to be a forever type thing. Is Yonis may be running out of patience with the Bucks building a championship contender? Is Yonis maybe thinking about greener pasture somewhere else as his career continues to wind on? Well, Sean Sharania was certainly fueling the flames. He said, yeah, he's starting to wonder if this place can win another title. Then Yonis won after Sharmes said, don't we all
Starting point is 00:03:32 kind of miss Woj? Don't we all this, this Sean Sharani a guy, don't we all kind of miss the Woj bombs with what this guy's talking about? Then Shams had to come out yet again and say, I stand by my reporting from my understanding. I'm hearing that this
Starting point is 00:03:48 is potentially going to be coming to an end. There's a lot of questions. There's a lot of, you know, patients that's maybe wearing a little bit thin on Yonis's side. And then there was obviously a lot of dispute and public chatter about whether or not this was real or not real. And does Shams Sharania potentially have Greek freak fever? Ooh. Well, that even led into the All-Star game for the celebrity game.
Starting point is 00:04:07 Shams Sharani ended up on Yonis' team. Wow. And then they had a stare down in real time. Stop talking about my business, maybe is what Yonis said. There's a lot of disputing. There was a lot of battling, but inevitably last night, Shams Sharania got a tweet off that said, yep, he's gone. And he's going to Miami.
Starting point is 00:04:25 Over the last couple of days, it had become clear seemingly to all insiders that it was the Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat, who were the final two destinations for Janus to potentially go to. Inevitably, they pick the Miami Heat. Now, why did they do that? How did we get to that point? Joining us now is a man who's been on the Greek freak beat for a long time. Oh, yeah. Ladies and gentlemen, senior NBA insider for ESPN, Shams Sharang Sharmes.
Starting point is 00:04:49 Yeah, Shambul. Hey, Shob! Hey, Shob! Congratulations. Hey, Sean, they're trying to get you. They're trying to kill you on. Pat Riley one time with Jimmy Butler. They're coming out trying to kill you.
Starting point is 00:05:03 A guy that used to work on your stadium network online, okay? He's grinding his way through this entire thing. Gets into a bigger chair, you know, gets a bigger platform, gets a bigger opportunity. Everybody's telling them no, no, no. Now the honest anti-Compo trade, which has been the most recent kind of Shams doesn't know shit type conversation that's been taking place. finally happens. Can you tell me how we got here and how it became Miami and Boston and inevitably why'd Miami win out in the end? This is like he said, Pat. This hasn't started three years ago, five years ago, four years ago,
Starting point is 00:05:37 two years ago. This started in May 2025. This is when the Bucks lost their third consecutive first round matchup. This is a team that won the NBA finals in 2021. They lost in the in the semifinals in game seven in 2022, then three straight first round defeats. Damien Lilliterres is Achilles. There's a team that has already in Milwaukee gone to depths with Janus. They've already gone to the cliff. They've depleted their assets, depleted everything in order to try to keep Janus there, keep him happy. And that was a point where Janus felt like it was time to move on. And I'm just going to put it very plainly. In May 2025, Janus and his agent Alex Sarrats was very, very direct with the Bucks that they felt.
Starting point is 00:06:22 the time had come to move on, that they felt the size needed to part ways, and to put it plainly that he wanted a trade out of Milwaukee, not because he dislikes the city, not because he doesn't like being there, but the simple fact of the matter that he feels that team could no longer compete for a championship. And so there are a lot of twists, there are a lot of churns, there's a lot of, I think, indecision on different ends of the spectrum and a lot of it starting with the Milwaukee Bucks because at the end of the day, this is a team that Janice is the best player in franchise history. He's an icon, potentially, he's an icon there.
Starting point is 00:06:56 He's one of the best players in the world. You want to hold on to those guys as long as you possibly can. But when you have a star player that's one foot in, one foot out, we saw the season that they had. It was full of dysfunction, despair. They end up going 32 and 50. This is a team that's been one of the most successful teams over the last decade with Janus, and they have fallen out of really any type of contention.
Starting point is 00:07:17 And so now you take a step back. Jimmy Haslam comes out. co-owner. He also owns the Cleveland Browns, who just traded Miles Garrett a few weeks ago. He came out and said, we are trading Janice by the draft, or we're going to get a long-term contract attention from Janus? This is after all the
Starting point is 00:07:32 ebbs and flows. Nothing had changed with Janus's perspective. He wanted it out and he was not going to sign long-term. So that means the bucks had to move on. They opened for business at the NBA Draft Combine. I remember we were on I was actually on this show and we talked about it that this wasn't
Starting point is 00:07:49 Janus that was pushing the needle this The bucks were open for business. They're open for calls. They were welcoming calls, welcoming offers. And there were a few different offers that came about. You had teams like Boston and Miami were the finalists. There were other teams, Minnesota, Portland, Golden State, Cleveland had interest, the Lakers had interest, a few other teams had interest.
Starting point is 00:08:14 But at the end of the day, Janus had one year left on his contract. That meant he had all the power, all the leverage in the second apron. collective bargaining era to be able to dictate where he wanted to go. And at the end of it, there were two teams that he was willing to sign a long-term contract extension with. That's the Boston Celtics in the Miami Heat. And back at the NBA Trade deadline, the Heat were the last team standing with Janus and the Milwaukee Bucks.
Starting point is 00:08:37 They had the package of players, young talent picks that the Bucks wanted to move forward with. And so there were two totally different offers. With the Celtics, it was Jalen Brown and two first-round picks. With Miami, it was what we saw. Tyler Hero, Clio Ware, Hamé Haquez, as well as Casperus,
Starting point is 00:08:56 Yaka Shonas, three unprotected first round picks, one pick swap, and one second round pick. That is a group of cost-controlled, rookie-scale contracts, significant draft capital, and that's an admission from the bucks
Starting point is 00:09:09 that we are now going to take a step back, we're going to evaluate this team, we are not in this win-now contention state, because you're not in, win now contention state with yannis jaylon brown is one of the best players in the world but the Celtics were willing to offer multiple firsts nonpics with him to go get yonis so they had made the calculation that we would rather have yonis than jaylin brown the bucks felt the same way so if you're going to try to compete and contend you want to do with yonis otherwise you take a step back collect the the different cost
Starting point is 00:09:41 control players and move forward and and move on and then obviously Miami now pat riley he gets his big fish, his white whale, to pair with Bam out of Iowa. And this is a history. Pat Riley has a history of doing deal where he goes out and gets the best players in the world. LeBron James went there. Fras Bosch went there. Alonzo Morning went there. Shack went there. Jimmy, now Janus. Okay, so huge move, obviously, for Miami to pull this off. Tyler Ero, I think, biggest name that we see there, but I heard Casperus, big silent Jay up there, a big part of the entire play. You said at the trade deadline, they might have had a lot of packages already close to what it could have been good for, for Yonis. So maybe the deal was ahead of schedule. Felt like everybody was leaning towards
Starting point is 00:10:27 the bucks regrouping, reloading, but with the new rules, like they can't be too ass, right? Yeah. Because if they're too ass, then they fall into that lowest percentage chance of getting better. So how do they kind of balance that? And on that note, go ahead. Yeah, no, my side. I mean, I mean, on that note, like, that's why you go out and get this type of a package where you can still remain competitive now. They wanted Tyler Hero and Hakez, where and Yacosonas, and then you get draft capital. This team can keep you competitive. I don't know how competitive. That remains to be seen.
Starting point is 00:11:04 But they didn't do this deal to try to spin players off. Now, this deal is going to be open-ended until July 6th. So technically, if a team blows them away for a Tyler Hero or a Hockes or where, you have to be. to look at it. They're not in a place as an organization where if a team offers you an insane package that you turn a blind eye to, they're wide open in a lot of ways. But this package at least allows you to stay competitive, half-cost controlled players. Jalen Brown is on a supermax contract for the next three seasons, fully guaranteed. He was due a contract extension this offseason. If you're not trying to pay the supermax and being the luxury tax and try to give
Starting point is 00:11:42 yourself that win now competitive motivation, that Miami deal is the deal for you because it at least allows you to have flexibility moving forward. Yeah, I completely understand the business decision there and Hasam wanting to allegedly not want to have to pay again if Jalen Brown opts out and then have to deal with this again after having to deal with it with Miles, he says, and then obviously did Sean watch and stuff. So Hasam's been a part of a lot of big time contracts with a lot of big time names. Okay, so let's move off the bucks and Hero might be gone and they might be shopped from there as well. We'll keep an eye out until July or whatever you said. Let's go to Miami. Can they win right now? I guess that's a big time question. Tone has a question for you.
Starting point is 00:12:19 Yeah, Shams. A lot of people were saying yes, they got their guy in Yannis, but when you look at the starting five and people are saying that is not a championship lineup. Do you think the heat are done? Do you think Pat Riley is done? Or do you think this is just the start of more moves that are going to come this offseason for the Miami Heat? Yeah. Shout out to our ESPN social group. They do an unbelievable job, but we can probably take Norman Powell off of this starting five. The heater expecting him not to be there this offseason. There's going to be interest in him, other suitors in him as well. Just financially, it's going to be very difficult for them to keep him.
Starting point is 00:12:57 They're going to have exceptions to use. They could participate in a sign and trade with Norm Powell this off season, but the heater operating is if he's going to either end up in a sign and trade or end up elsewhere. And so from there you have a starting shooting guard slot to fill. You've got exceptions to do it. You've got other avenues. Andrew Wiggins will be an interesting case. He's got a player option, I think around $30 million.
Starting point is 00:13:18 Does he opt into that? Does he opt out? Do you do a lesser deal but more years? That's on the table for them. But they know they have to fill this roster out. My understanding, talking to people in Miami, shooting, shooting, and more shooting. That is their prerogative. They're going to go find floor spaces for Janus and Bam moving forward next season.
Starting point is 00:13:36 be a finished product on opening night for them, but you think about the great duos in the Eastern Conference. Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown, or Jason Tatum or whoever ends up with him, you think about Jalen Brunson and Carlton Antony Towns. You have to put Janice and Dicombo and Bam out of bio up there
Starting point is 00:13:52 as among the great duos in the east and potentially in the NBA. That's how good that team can be. But they've got work to do. They know it. That's why, for both Miami and Milwaukee, it's important getting this deal done. You have all day to day for Milwaukee to prepare for the draft. You have number 10 and number 13 tonight.
Starting point is 00:14:09 And Miami, they've got a ton of moves now to make in free agency. We trust that Pat Riley will get it done. You also left off Tyrese Halliburton and Spicy P. Yeah, sure. Okay, so they're on the list. They're on the list. They're on the list. I'm sorry. Hope Tyrese is all good. Hope he's
Starting point is 00:14:24 doing better. He's good. He actually got a basketball from being wedgied up in the top of Backboard last night of a fever game. No big deal. So I think what we would say is look, Tyrese is A-OK. He's up on his tip-y-toes in his hallies, but do that. WMBA game, Fever Game King, continue because I was here. You're welcome. Let's keep it moving. He's a hero.
Starting point is 00:14:42 And also, Sophie Cunningham, a bit of a menace. Yeah. A little bit of a menace. Got into a little bit last night. A lot of finger pointing. Hi, excuse me, excuse me, a lot of this, a lot of it. You, you, you, you is what she's saying there. And then obviously, the fever are only going to get hot and they're going to win the WMBA because that's what a fever does. It gets hotter. But no, Tyree Saliburton looks like he's A-OK. And the fever also kicking some ass. Let's get back to the Yonish trade. You know, shooting, shooting, shooting. Maybe Miami will make a play for a guy up in Boston who I think a lot of Boston fans are wondering, well, we have to make a play now. Go ahead. Connor, last question here.
Starting point is 00:15:14 Yeah, Shams, Pat alluded to it there. Jalen Brown, what's the deal now? You even said right there, Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown or whoever is with Jason Tatum, where do the Celtics go from here? Is Jalen Brown going to be willing to play for the Celtics or is this situation where, hey, cat's out of the bag now, we got to move this guy. What is the situation? And Brian Winhorse also mentioned. The bidding war for Jalen Brown starts now. Is this something we should expect to happen in the coming week, even coming days? B.C., this is something the whole league is going to be paying very close attention to because for the second time in four years, the Celtics offered Jalen Brown. In 2022, they offered him for Kevin Durant. Now, four years later, they offer him after he's won
Starting point is 00:15:57 finals MVP, after he's one of the finalists for the league MVP, they offer him for Janus. And I I know there are going to be hard conversations ahead for both Jalen Brown and the Boston Celtics. Like there's going to be fallout from this. There already is. Since last night, my understanding is the Celtics are listening to interested teams and offers for Jalen Brown. So they're not, I wouldn't say they're actively shopping him right now. But the Celtics are listening to offers. There are multiple interested teams that have started to at least reach out and engage.
Starting point is 00:16:34 and have a level of dialogue with the Celtics. And so that doesn't mean it's going to result in a trade definitively BC because Jayle Brown's got three years left on his deal at the Supermax dollar amount. He's extension eligible in July. Like, we'll see where this goes. But the fact that they're at least listening, that lets you know that there is a decision to make one or the other this offseason for the Celtics. You're the man.
Starting point is 00:16:59 We appreciate your. That's NBA senior insider from ESPN, Sean Sharvanya. Yeah, Shambu. Joining us now, former NBA champ also will be on the call in the coverage tonight for the NBA draft. Fresh off a 10-year anniversary celebration of him being an NBA champion with the Cleveland Cavaliers, ladies and gentlemen, Richard Jefferson.
Starting point is 00:17:16 Yeah, real big! Yeah! How you doing? Hi, guys. It looked like you guys had a great time celebrating what you guys did 10 years ago. That looked like an absolute blast. We all kind of felt like we were there,
Starting point is 00:17:31 but not really, and it was nice to go back time a little bit. I hope you guys had a blast. What was it like living the good old days and getting after it with the lads from 2016? I'll tell you what it felt like. It felt like we were on a road trip again. That's what that's what it felt like. And if you haven't been on a road trip with, you know, 10, 12 of your brothers, going to dinners, talking about games, talking about life, catching up. That was a fun part. It was a lot of church retreats. We did a couple, we did a couple of Bible studies. Nice. You know, just really, you know, we donated food. There were just a lot of different things.
Starting point is 00:18:05 Like, obviously it didn't make the edits, but there were a lot of things that we did for the people. Those were just some of the lighter moments, but those are the smaller moments that we had. Yeah, it was really nice. You guys went and dug some wells, I think, too, right? Took a trip down there to get water for some people. Yeah, we were doing, we built some homes. You know, yeah, help pay for some schools probably. I didn't see any of that, man.
Starting point is 00:18:29 That's really cool. You guys did that. But, you know, they only, they only, they never. show the real stuff. But it was you guys showing us this stuff, though. It wasn't like they. It was like you deciding what we were seeing. So like you weren't showing them. Humble. Humble. Yeah, we just try it. We tried to keep it low key. It was really a private event. We really want to, you know, really show too many people what was going on. There's a level of privacy that we like to maintain when we're having fun. As you guys know. So that's really
Starting point is 00:18:57 what we were focused on. Okay. Well, I'm happy you guys got together. Obviously, sports are the greatest teams or the greatest locker rooms of the great championship. are obviously what everybody's hunting. So the fact that you'll be able to celebrate those forever is a beautiful thing. Let's talk about championships being the reason why the Greek freak was seemingly not happy in Milwaukee for a while now and then finally gets traded last night to Miami. Shams just came on and told us that basically the anatomy of this deal came down to Pat Riley offering up smaller contracts, more controllable contracts, and more assets.
Starting point is 00:19:27 And the bucks deciding to take a step back as opposed to going to championship angle with the Boston Celtics offer with Jalen Brown and others. Your thoughts on how he ends up in Miami, and what are your thoughts on how the Eastern Conference looks now at the top? Well, look, I think Miami is the top four team just off the rip. And again, yes, you get Janus. You have Powell, you have some outstanding players, but I also like Bobby Portis as a six-man guy.
Starting point is 00:19:55 So now you have scoring off your bench. You didn't really deplete yourself. You depleted of assets, not necessarily play. players. So I like what Miami's doing. I think they're one of the top teams, if healthy, in the Eastern Conference. And I still think, in my opinion, they need to improve their guard play a little bit, whether that's off the bench. If you look at the east, there's a lot of talented guards, a lot of talented defensive guards. So offensively, I think that's something that they need to improve. But ultimately, I think when you talk about Janus leaving Milwaukee, that
Starting point is 00:20:28 that window had closed for them. You know, they gave up so many assets for Drew Holiday. They brought in players. And then all of a sudden, as those players age out and Janus is in his prime, that gets to a space of where they're kind of stuck in the cap, they don't have as much assets. And so for them to rebuild with this young team and not rebuild all the way. Tyler Heroes and an all-star, Hamé Hakez is a talented, talented young player.
Starting point is 00:20:53 So it's Kalia Ware. And they got a bunch of picks. If you look at it, I think they're probably a three to five year window from being back in that top five, top six. That's just being conservative. They could overachieve, but I think that's where Milwaukee is currently right now. And they would have to hit on some of the draft picks, obviously, which turns to tonight. Tonight, the conversation is the next generation of NBA stars. Let's go ahead and hit all the main topics, okay, because all we see is the headlines because we are dupuses out here in Indiana,
Starting point is 00:21:22 and we don't have one of the top five picks like we were supposed to. Yeah, true. Pacers are supposed to have like number one pick or something like that. We didn't get it. So I'm a little bit bummed out about that entire thing. There was certainly a situation. But there are obviously other storylines that are going to continue to heat up. Go ahead, Tone.
Starting point is 00:21:38 Yeah, RJ, for those of us that didn't follow the college game super closely, we see Darren Peterson and we see the skill. And then we see the headlines about him leaving games early and sitting out and stuff like that and cramping. So in your opinion and just like the rich, because I'm sure you have gotten more inside information. Is that stuff overblown with him? Does his talent overweight all of that stuff?
Starting point is 00:22:00 Was that stuff real? Because we were talking about earlier, like when Aunt Edwards was at Georgia and he was coming out, there was similar stories, stuff like that. He's one of the best players in the NBA. So what are your thoughts on Darren Peterson and all the noise around him? Well, it happened with Pablo Bencaro.
Starting point is 00:22:14 He was cramping at Duke. And there are things, when you're a top five pick, especially early on in the college season, it becomes, I don't want to say you become conservative, but your one thing is to make sure that you don't get hurt, you don't suffer or make your draft stock suffer. I think with Peterson, he's so talented. There's no doubt.
Starting point is 00:22:34 People were saying he was the number one pick five, ten games into the season, and you understand why. I think that you have to understand is when you're a player of this caliber, everything's under the microscope. Jalen Brown, Janice onto the Kumpo, LeBron, everything is under the microscope. So for him and some of the other top picks to be under the microscope, that's just getting them ready for what they're going to deal with on the next level. Now, to deal with him, we're going to talk about him as a player.
Starting point is 00:23:01 Those are things that, yes, if you are a scout, you want to say, okay, what is this? Because the number one pick in the draft is a guy that's supposed to change your franchise. He's supposed to be the face possibly of the league. There's only one of those every single year and there's an exclusive club. So you want a person that has all the tools, mental, emotional, physical, You want all of those things. So it's not his physical ability. It's not his talent.
Starting point is 00:23:23 It's more of, okay, what's his grind look like? Can he play through an 82 game season? And we've talked about it. It's 82, plus you've got to win another 16 to go get a championship. So when you start looking at that and you start to see a player struggle to get through 30 games, and when I say struggle, I means he was very, very conservative. He didn't necessarily push himself to the limit. There was cramps.
Starting point is 00:23:45 There were minute restrictions. There were a lot of things going on. but we don't know all of those details. But is he legitimately talented enough to be the number one pick? He could be the number one pick in multiple years. But there's this guy, AJ, who is a physical specimen, that is a stud, that is a monster that looks like he's ready to play and dominate right now. And he sounds like he wants to dominate.
Starting point is 00:24:06 He does all those things. Sometimes it's about saying the right things, not always necessarily doing the right things on the court. Yeah, he's projected to be the guy. That's why Utah potentially getting the number one overall pick with the BYU. connection would have been crazy. Instead, now Utah has two. Washington has one. How will it pan out? Number one overall pick, expected to be a franchise changer and a mover, but obviously the NBA draft, the first round, nobody really looks at anybody past five as a legit thing seemingly every single year. Ty has a question about all of that. Yeah, Richard, we've heard coming into the draft
Starting point is 00:24:38 process that this is one of the deepest, most talented drafts in several years. But in your opinion, how many of these guys can realistically or will realistically make an impact year one? Because like Pat mentioned, it seemed like even towards the back half of the lottery. You know, you have the first five or so guys who actually play legit minutes. And then it seems like a lot of these guys who are first round picks, we don't see the first year. And a lot of times we really don't see anything from them. So how many of these guys actually will be like key linchpins to the teams that they get drafted by?
Starting point is 00:25:10 Well, it's always tough because you look at a team like San Antonio. and they were a talented team that ended up with the number two pick in the draft. And he was one of the best players in the playoffs, if you look at Dylan Harper. But then there's also guys like Cooper Flagg, who's the number one pick in the draft. He goes to a team that has talent, but they're injured. And then you go and look at a guy like Khan Kinnipal. You know, he was in the top pick, but the way he played, help, in my opinion, lift Charlotte kind of in that kind of in-between zone.
Starting point is 00:25:37 So it depends on where these guys go. It depends on what their needs are. There were so many teams that are tanking. when we talk about an impact, is it a game impact? Is it a winning impact? Because there's some teams in there. Grizzlies, they're far away. Jazz might be closer than people think. I think the Kings are far away. The Hawks with the eighth pick. They are closer. The Mavericks with the ninth pick. So a lot of these guys, it's like some of these guys are player, they're game ready right now, but is their team ready? So a guy might average 17 points, 16 points. And you're like,
Starting point is 00:26:08 he's a stud, but he's doing it for the third worst team in the league. But there might be a guy that averages 13 points a game for a playoff team. So it's all about where you draft, what your need is, and can a guy be ready to contribute? What I was so impressed with Dylan Harper being the number two pick is that he was contributing to a championship run. Now, you don't see that very often with rookies, but then there's other guys that were out there that had outstanding rookie years. They were just on a tough team. They were on a team that were struggling that was still tanking. So I think that there are a lot of guys in this. Excuse me? tanking, rebuilding.
Starting point is 00:26:44 Yeah, yeah. You know what, Pat, I apologize. I misspoke. Still dealing with some of the stuff. Still a little jet lagged, if you know what I mean. Oh, from all the goodwill and philanthropy. Yeah, the philanthropy. No, the tantrum.
Starting point is 00:26:56 The soft-ass tanking that was happening in the NBA. Yeah, yes, that's what I was referencing. But when you look at a lot of these players, I think a lot of these players will be able to contribute is just where. Are they going to contribute to a high-level playoff team and they're the 10th pick or they're the 12th pick? Are they the number one pick in their average in 19, 20 points a game for a team that will be in the lottery again next year?
Starting point is 00:27:18 I think it is good that we kind of know all these guys at least. Remember, there was a run there where it was who gives Damia from somewhere. Yeah, two years ago. Had no idea. Damya? Damya. You've really changed, Pat. Who gives a damn ya?
Starting point is 00:27:33 Yeah. That person was from Spain or something. There was a run there where it was like. Pakistan. Yeah, I forget where these guys were coming from. And then it was like, well, we hope they choose to come to the NBA. It was like, what the fuck are you guys doing over there? You're drafting people we've never heard of.
Starting point is 00:27:48 And then these people get to decide whether or not they're coming to the NBA. I was just like, I was befuddled by it. And then Wembe obviously comes through France. And we didn't learn really about him, Dufus. Should have known about him a long time ago, I think. Especially whenever he was 17 and him and Chet were battling for this entire thing. I think we should have known that at the time. But we learned of this guy and we're like, so this is going to be the greatest basketball player of all time?
Starting point is 00:28:09 And they're like, probably. Yeah. Yeah, he's got a chance. He's got a chance. So it feels like the NBA draft is like real hit or miss. I feel like it's like really exciting or it's not at all, like year to year. This year it feels like everybody's talking about like, hey, good players this year. It feels like it's good players and known players.
Starting point is 00:28:28 I think that's a big deal. Yes, and that's why there was so much rebuilding this year because there was such an elite draft that so many teams were like, we got to get in the top three. You saw what happened with your Pacers. my Brooklyn Nets had a bit of a struggle too They had a tough season Ended up with the sixth pick Whoa
Starting point is 00:28:46 Whoa I don't Wolf yeah They were mad Agreed agreed Agreed But this is what I'm saying Look the Nets could go 0 for 82 And I'll still look at you like this is gravy
Starting point is 00:28:57 Okay like everything is fine I don't know if a lot of people are doing that anymore I like that you're still doing that Respect I'm still doing that But I think again you look at A Cuff There are players that are going to be around That 6, 7, 8 and 9
Starting point is 00:29:09 that literally could be All-Stars in two or three years. And so, like, this is one of the years where 6, 7, 8, 9 could win rookie of the year. We don't know. The top guys, elite, outstanding. But you can also see guys that win rookie of the years that aren't the number one, the number two, the number three pick. Here's Jeremy Wu's projected top 10. We know Jeremy Wu, right? We're big fans.
Starting point is 00:29:33 Oh, yeah. We'll make that. Yeah. Yeah. He'll woo you. He's wooed me. Yeah. With this draft?
Starting point is 00:29:40 Yeah, it would you. Yeah, and look, I like Mikhail Brown Jr. You know, me, I like Acuff a little bit more. My Arizona Wildcats played against Arkansas. And I was scared of him. I was like, yo, this is the type of player that can take over a game, has that mentality. There's some good guards in this league. You see another Arizona player down there, Burry.
Starting point is 00:29:59 So, no, no, this is a very, very good draft. There are impact players. My big thing when you're drafting a player, especially if you're in the 7 to 18, range especially, you want a guy that can contribute right away. That doesn't mean that average is 18. That means can this guy give us eight, nine points? Can this guy play defense? Can he block shots? Can he hit a three? So you want somebody that can contribute to the success of your team. And I think that that increases as you get kind of in that 10 to 20 range. When you go from 20 to 30, to me, that's more of like you might want to take a person that you can develop because your team might
Starting point is 00:30:35 already be loaded. A flyer. Got it. Okay. Last question isn't about the draft. It's about about a situation that's happening in Boston right now. And we think you'd be obviously the perfect person to give an answer. Go ahead, Convin. Yeah, Richie, how do you feel about the Jalen Brown situation? It feels like now, hey, we got to move this guy. This is the second time in four years, as Shams pointed out, that they've tried and included Jalen Brown in trade talks.
Starting point is 00:30:57 What do you think his reaction is to everything? Do you think he's done with kind of the entire thing and wants a fresh start somewhere else? Or do you think this is something that could maybe motivate him and help the Celtics this upcoming season? Well, I think if we always look at Jalen Brown's career, he always looks at things as a motivation. He is a champion. He's a finals MVP. The dude this year, without Jason Tatum, showed that he is a top 10 player in the league,
Starting point is 00:31:23 was high on the MVP candidate list. But when I look at him and what he's able to do on the court, two-way player, he's elite. You know, he's in the mode of Kauai Leonard, of the young Paul George. He has all of that. But one thing that I would say to Jalen Brown is that as your career goes on, these are conversations that we'll have. You got traded or potentially got traded for Janus. This wasn't a package deal in a young All-Star. This is one of the all-time greats.
Starting point is 00:31:50 And it's kind of like Anthony Davis getting traded for Luca. Hey, it's Luca. You got to understand. And so if I was Jalen Brown, I would help him understand that like, hey, this is a part of the business. It's a little tough when it's with your first team, a team that you've accomplished so much. but your team's job is also to field calls. And if they can get Janus, then that's most likely what they were trying to do. Now, they wouldn't give away everything, right?
Starting point is 00:32:15 They wouldn't give away anything, but they would listen to calls for Janus. And whenever guys like Janus or LeBron or Kevin Durant, Luke, whenever these guys hit the market, everybody is available. And just because you were to go, let's say he were to magically go to a team, let's say Portland, right? Three years from now, Portland could be filling calls. There is no loyalty in our business. There is none.
Starting point is 00:32:37 There's a little bit of respect. There's no loyalty in professional sports, Pat. You know that. You've seen handshakes, and then the next day they walk out in the room and trade you. These are things that are very, very normal. Are there emotions involved, but understand the grass will not always be greener on the other side.
Starting point is 00:32:52 Reality of the business doesn't always feel good, though, especially whenever you're the one that's being talked about as being potentially a moving piece in the entire chess game. I hope J.B. and Tatum continue up there in Boston, but the Boston Celtics fans say the way Jalen Brown operates with the way you talked about is everything his motivation?
Starting point is 00:33:10 Is he going to be cool just coming back to the Celtics after this publicly happens? I appreciate Richard Jefferson saying there is a reality that this is Yonis too. Hopefully that will happen. Hopefully cooler heads will prevail. Hopefully the Indiana Pacers
Starting point is 00:33:21 win the title next year. I don't know about that. Hey, you're the man. We'll watch you tonight. 8 o'clock on ABC and ESPN, the NBA draft. That's Richard Jefferson. Yeah, Richard.
Starting point is 00:33:31 Talking about trading. I mean, let's go from one sport to another. Ladies and gentlemen, a great American man was traded from a Canadian franchise to a Southern Florida franchise. Woo! One in which his brother was already a member of and a champion of. And then on basically the same day, these two lads, their father would be announced that he'd be going into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Ladies and gentlemen, proud American badass hockey brothers from the Florida Panthers and sons of Big Walt Hockey Hall of Famer.
Starting point is 00:34:08 Ladies and gentlemen, Matthew and Brady Kachuk. Yes. Goodchow. How we doing, lads? Congratulations, Matthew, on getting your brother to your team. I think that would be the first thing that might be in order here. Let's start there. Matthew, whenever you hear the potential rumblings of your brother getting traded to your franchise,
Starting point is 00:34:28 what is the immediate response? reaction and how do you kind of emotionally roll through this entire process, if you will? Yeah, well, I had no idea. And I shouldn't say that. I knew there was maybe a slight chance that this could become a reality. But I was never given my hopes up because you just never know. And he could have gone anywhere. He could have stayed.
Starting point is 00:34:52 We had no idea. But the second that, I mean, I think Brady should tell the story about how we found out. but we were all together and it was one of the greatest moments of my entire life. I had my daughter, Millie in my hands. I'm like lifting her up,
Starting point is 00:35:08 like up to the Stanley Cup. I'm like, yeah, but Brady, you got to tell the story about how you actually found out. Please do. Yeah, it was a memorable day. We had Millie's baptism in the morning.
Starting point is 00:35:20 We had Father's Day brunch and I was just told things are happening fast. So just be on your phone. And we were actually having a gold medal party that night for all of our family and friends in St. Louis. So we're doing family pictures before. I was off my phone for five minutes. And our grandpa's standing out there. We're in the middle of our family picture is like, huh, this is interesting. We have, you know, Emily Kaplan and Pierre LeBron just said, Brady, you just got traded before. So
Starting point is 00:35:45 there's that. I was like, what? And so I went right inside. I was holding my son. And no, so I had like 10 missed calls and and realized that it happened. And we'd always, we'll have that together that we found out on the same room. Yeah, having a professional photographer there, four family photos in the exact moment that you find out that the family is going to be regathering in South Florida as teammates. Brady, you knew you were going to get traded? Is that kind of just a part of the business? We were just chatting about this with Richard Jefferson and what happened with Jalen Brown
Starting point is 00:36:17 out of Boston, potentially getting traded for Janus and the trade not happening and how he reacts. Obviously, with Team USA winning the gold medal, we had such a high, such a boost here in the United States of America. I think Matthew probably felt it with his organization. And obviously when you guys came back, but a lot of our stars were up on Canadian franchise. Yeah. And we had been reading things about maybe the local Canadians
Starting point is 00:36:38 not being necessarily as excited to welcome back the American heroes, you know? We as Dufus in America didn't necessarily love that. So I literally just said, we need all the guys back in America. We need all the guys back in America. That's what we need. Now, that was in the moment. That was rude. Obviously, we like Canada. We appreciate Canada and Ottawa.
Starting point is 00:36:55 But how do you kind of get to the point of knowing you're going to get traded, and in hockey, is there a lot of conversations with the player? It sounds like no other than just stay by your phone. How do you kind of end up in Florida? This seems like hockey God's kind of blessing kind of taking place. Well, first, I'm just really thankful for, you know, the city of Ottawa, the Ottawa Center's organization. And, you know, I was there for eight years.
Starting point is 00:37:20 It was an amazing eight years. It made me into who I am. But, no, I think it was just, you know, a lot kind of went into it. It wasn't an easy decision. at all is, it was, no, tough, but it felt like he was, you know, just ready for the next chapter and just have, you know, those conversations with, you know, the senator's management and it's just kind of, you know, waiting around a little bit, let them, I guess, figured out a little bit and just, you know, I got a call just, now, things were happening really fast, it was pretty
Starting point is 00:37:51 just stagnant, stale, and just kind of just going about everyday life, and then over the weekend, I just got a call from, you know, our agent saying that things are happening pretty fast. So just, you know, be on your phone just could happen, you know, any second, but it could happen in a couple of days. So I think that was more, you know, draining mentally and emotionally. And now that it's done, it's, you know, very thankful for, you know, everybody involved, both parties. And, no, like I said, I wouldn't be the man I am if it wasn't for, you know, all the people in Ottawa that welcome me from day one. Now we're on to the next chapter. I'm really excited about it.
Starting point is 00:38:30 Yeah, great barn up there in Ottawa, and I appreciate you shouting them out, obviously, a massive piece of your story. Let's talk about you two's story. Obviously, we saw you on Team USA. Brady, I think we saw a lot of behind the scenes mic up of you actually saying, we're going to win this game,
Starting point is 00:38:43 like taking on a leadership role. I think you have a see. Matthew, obviously, you're a massive leader down there in Florida. Team USA are together. How many other teams have you guys played together? And is there just a fist fight that happens between you both to see who's the alpha?
Starting point is 00:38:56 How do the Kachucks kind of handle that situation, Matt? No, there's no fist fighting because I'm fighting an uphill battle on that one. But other than Team USA at the Four Nations Olympics, I think the first time we ever played with each other was at the All-Stardium down here in Florida. So we've only been playing together for three times, never on the same regular season team. But I'm just, I'm over the moon excited. What I told Brady, too, what's great about down here is, like, he had to wear a lot hats playing up in Ottawa being a young captain playing in Canada um you know just dealing with like a lot
Starting point is 00:39:34 of stuff like whether it's in his control or not which is i mean sometimes a little bit unfortunate in the business where like the best part about playing down here and this might sound like a little bit bad but we're really just like pieces of meat down here like you have your role like you wear one hat you don't have to do somebody else's job um and it's just a total group effort we're a deep team i mean it's it's the greatest place to live look at yonis coming down here it's not even the same sport and it's very similar um and just life's good and the team's fun and there's nobody fighting to be the alpha i mean all right there's so much well just know if i signed down there just know if i signed down there day one punching brady right in the face okay well what
Starting point is 00:40:22 are you gonna have to what are you gonna have to make down here like 70 million you're I see the state tax. I understand that there's a potential alternate home coming down there, no doubt. No, I just tell Brady, like, everybody's an alpha in their own way. There's guys in this team. I mean, there's maybe if we are on guys who are on other teams, there could be 10 captains on our team right now here in Florida. So just come down here, have so much fun.
Starting point is 00:40:48 Do your job and your job only. And you're just going to see your game just elevate to a whole other level. So I'm like, I can't wait to see him this year. the best is yet to come with him. We can't wait to watch you both on the ice. Tone has a question for you. Yeah, you boys were just talking about being at a baptism. That was for children.
Starting point is 00:41:06 Matthew, have you baptized Brady yet? Do you just take him to the elbow room and pour a beer over his dad? How does that work? I knew that was coming. We're in the mix of that summer grind right now. Brady's only here for a few days, so am I. Maybe we'll, I mean, the dream is to have that elbow room baptism of next year in mid-June, right?
Starting point is 00:41:28 Like, that's the dream. So I'm sure we'll have a couple of visits. The Scots are there now if I want to go party with the Scots. That's true. Yeah, the Scottish folks are over there right now. They're kind of holding it down. I assume the Kachucks could keep up. If it means anything, we would send the Kachucks to represent us in a Scottish party.
Starting point is 00:41:44 Walt too. Yeah, well, Big Walt as well, which also leads to this. Go ahead, Ty. Yeah, so, I mean, obviously, you know, you guys are now finding out that you're going to be playing together, and I assume that is awesome. You're all together. But how special was it here and your dad is going in to the Hall of Fame as well and being able to kind of share that moment with it.
Starting point is 00:42:01 Because every time you guys, you know, accomplish something, it seems like that is one of the first things the camera picks up as it cuts to the crowd and your dad is always there supporting you guys. So how awesome was that moment? That was incredible. We've been talking. You just won up to us all all weekend. So, I mean, just the way we found out just he was ready. He found out, I think it was in St. Louis.
Starting point is 00:42:23 He announced was at 2 and he found out at 1230. He just like, nobody noticed he went outside for a phone call and then came back. And then he was like, I'm ready to take this to the announcement, not tell anybody and just let everybody be surprised. But he's like, all right. Like my uncle was there and my cousin was there. And he's there, Brady, just go grab a beer. We'll have it in the kitchen.
Starting point is 00:42:42 So, you know, nobody can see it. And then he's just like, I'm like, what's going on? He's like, oh, guys, cheers. I just got in the hall. And everybody went nuts and lost it. And it was unbelievable. Like my mom's sitting in the other room with the grandkids like, what? What's going on?
Starting point is 00:42:59 And then it was just awesome. Just such a special moment that I know I'll never forget. It's so well deserved and I'm just so happy for him. Yeah, Matt, we were looking up his stats earlier today. You guys got a lot of work to do, bro. Yeah. Yeah, we do. Yeah, you got a lot of work to do.
Starting point is 00:43:16 What a stud. I love that he is living his career still through you guys as well. And it's very obvious and it's very evident. And I love how much of a family thing. hockey is. You know, we saw that obviously what the Hughes is and we see it with you and it feels like we looked it up. How many sets of brothers have played on the same team? I think
Starting point is 00:43:33 47 total sets of brothers have played on the same team. It's incredible because you guys think like obviously YouTube battling against each other as lads, young lads probably has helped all this. Is that an accurate depiction or is the age difference too much or how do you kind of attribute that to the success of it all, Matt?
Starting point is 00:43:49 I just think that I had to drag Brady along with me. I needed somebody to play mini hockey with. I needed somebody to play roller hockey with, so I dragged him along. And I think it really held both of us. And I mean, we've competed in every single thing that you could ever think about all of our lives. And as we've gotten older, that's shifted to competing against each other into really, really, really wanting to compete with each other. And we had that experience at Four Nations, had the best time in the world, and then went to the
Starting point is 00:44:18 Olympics. And, I mean, it was literally the best time in the world with us in our memories. So, I mean, this is just a dream come true. This is Olympics on steroids for us every single day. Having him at the rink today, just like driving him in the golf cart. It's just you can't make it up right now. Oh, that's really cute. Oh, I got you really cute, guys. It's really cute.
Starting point is 00:44:42 We're just having a blast. And the girls are out together, our wives, you know, figuring out where he's going to live. And so just our family has always been so close. and this experience us playing with each other is just a dream for the whole family. All right, we're happy to hear that. We're also happy that you guys are going to play a brand of hockey that we love. To that point, Connor has a question. Last question for you.
Starting point is 00:45:02 Yeah, Brady, going all the way back to the Four Nations, you know, kind of started where you guys just started throwing hands right away before the puck even dropped to was kind of agreed upon. And then going back to the playoffs, game one, first one out of any series. You and Jordan Stahl basically dropped the mitts right off the bat. What was that like? How did that come about? And did you realize in the moment, like,
Starting point is 00:45:23 oh, I might be beating the hell out of the cons, my winner in game one? Yeah. Well, that one just wanted, you know, I wouldn't say we snuck in, but just wanted to show, you know, we're playing against, you know, an unreal team, and I knew it was going to be playing against,
Starting point is 00:45:41 you know, stall all series. And I guess just wanted to show, you know, our team and, you know, everybody that's not where to be ready to play. We're going to try to conquer the beast and just kind of show we're ready. And, yeah, didn't expect what followed after. Before she getting slept and then then going on to win the Stanley. And then him went into a consmice. So, yeah, that one stung a little bit. But he's a great player and clearly a great captain, too.
Starting point is 00:46:17 Yeah, we all got a chance to remember and experience the end of Jordan Stahl's magical playoff run, but it was nice to relive the very beginning of that entire thing, where you two just agree, seemingly both agree to fighting each other there too? How does that go about? You guys just look at each other? Because from our angle, it looked like you said, yeah? And he said, yeah. And then literally we just get after it. Is that as much as it takes in the hockey world as somebody, I think you beat the hell out of PK as a rookie as well, Subbanon's. He still tells the story. Whenever it comes to the fighting thing, is there normally some sort of agreement that takes place between each other?
Starting point is 00:46:49 Is it like, is it just known? Or is that shit coming out of nowhere for one of you normally? Well, I mean, that situation, it was more like we were going to fight at some point this series. And then he was like, why don't we just fight now? I was like, okay, great. Like, I didn't expect that. So, yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:10 But then usually it's weird. Like, you just have like that connection with the guy. Like you don't even have to say anything. How are the one with P.K. go? Just you knocked you down and just, I was like, that wasn't more of a question. I was like, we're going. And it immediately grabbed on and forced hand. But yeah, no, it's just where you just sometimes just don't even have to say anything.
Starting point is 00:47:32 You just both know what's happening. And what's your, what's the strategy? Matt, do you fight much? I don't think I see you hitting people a lot. More of a path. No, I do not. I don't, I'm definitely not as good as a, as, as, him. That's what all the guys were saying today. I can't believe how big he is.
Starting point is 00:47:50 And, like, in person, he's just a monster. So no wonder why he does as good at the fighting. But no, Brady, Brady, that's, he is way better at that. It's way better at a lot of things than me. And that is definitely one. Yeah, okay. Well, that's going to happen. I think in the household, these guys, especially big Waltz Keys. You know, that's going to take place. Yeah, but PK said that you were a grown man. And now he said you did get him at the end of his shift. He said he got him at the end of a shift, which is a strategy move by you, potentially. Is that? accurate? Well, I will say I do have to defend him. Fighting at the end of the shift is the
Starting point is 00:48:21 worst thing in the world. You're already fighting an uphill battle with that one. So, yeah, he was in one from the very beginning. See, that's pretty good. I think I was so fresh. You guys are the best. All right, enjoy yourselves. Congratulations on teaming up. And we can't wait to see what hockey beach down there has in store for the rest of us as we go forward here. Congrats, boys. Enjoy it all. Thanks. Thank you guys. Appreciate it. Tell the old man, we said, congrats on the Hall of Fame. That's awesome. Ladies and gentlemen, that's the Florida Panthers.
Starting point is 00:48:51 Kachia. Yeah. Good Chalks. Brady kind of looks like he's like Shrek there sitting next to... It's fucking huge. This big son of a bitch. I mean, his fucking head...
Starting point is 00:49:05 He's a big son of a bitch. His wrist had like an oversized thing to it. Yeah, that's what P.K. said. He said, when he got his hands on me, he was... Holy shit, this is the strongest 18-year-old, probably walk in the planet right now. And now he and Marshan are on the same team? Yeah, Bradley.
Starting point is 00:49:20 And Matthew. And Matthew. And Barkey and Rhino. They got a lot of pests over there. They do. And then they got the guy. Yeah. They got the, oh, is that right? You're going to do what to Marci? Okay. Bring him in, beat the shit out of him. Where's Brady?
Starting point is 00:49:36 He's talented to do this. He's not a big, he's not a big dumb goon of the past. No, he's able to handle his business. We were going to show an interview with Tyler Adams that we were able to record earlier, but I don't know if we're... Actually, let's do it. Ask them to push it to 105. Ask them to push it to 105.
Starting point is 00:49:54 Ladies and gentlemen, we had an incredible opportunity to catch up with a man who's been a part of two World Cup's now with Team USA. Tyler Adams from earlier today. Look at you. You look like a guy that's already clinched to the elimination right. Yeah. Well, God. Here we go. Woo!
Starting point is 00:50:10 Congratulations, sir. obviously you're 27. You were 23 and 2022 while you were captain of the U.S. national team. Now back with this squad doing things that the U.S. men's national team has never seen before. Can you just tell me the vibes of this year's World Cup versus maybe years past
Starting point is 00:50:25 with the U.S. national team? Yeah, we've grown a lot since the last World Cup. I would say in the last World Cup we were a little bit obviously inexperienced. I hate to say that word, but that's probably the truth more than anything. Whereas now we're just more mature. A lot of us have changed in our personal lives,
Starting point is 00:50:41 becoming fathers, growing up, everything that comes with life. And now as we enter this World Cup, I feel the group is more together than ever. We have a belief that I don't know that we had before, and we're just continually growing. Okay, so you talk about inexperienced. Is that show like when you're a little bit under siege maybe by Australia? Okay, like in the second half, it felt like we're a little under siege there, but there was no panic it didn't feel. Now, first half, obviously, we all enjoyed a lot more. Did we not?
Starting point is 00:51:10 We all enjoyed that. Yeah, and then Paraguay, I guess four quarters now. We enjoyed the four quarters against Paraguay. We loved everything about that. But that second half did feel a little bit different than the start of the World Cup. For you guys, is it a necessity to kind of go through stuff like that? Like, what do you kind of think about how you guys have played here two games down and already clinching? Yeah, you have to be battle tested.
Starting point is 00:51:32 I think in the second half against Australia, you could see we invited them more to put a little bit more pressure on. but of course when you're up, you know, 2-0, a team is going to come out and attack a little bit more. But, again, I think we handled the pressure well. It's something that you're going to have to go through at different points in the games, especially with the heat playing a factor as well as you start to fatigue. But I felt like we were comfortable still in that second half. Okay, tell me about the heat and the fatigue in the four quarters that are happening, because obviously this is drawing a lot of conversation.
Starting point is 00:52:00 I think natural sports fans like us watching, going to a commercial, taking a break, no big deal for us. All good. Yeah, for us, this is a complete. normal shit that's happening here. Take a piss. And of course they want to sell some shit to us. Yeah. Like we very much understand that. Feels like the soccer community, super soccer people aren't necessarily in love with it. I assume old school soccer players like, we used to go 110 degrees, okay?
Starting point is 00:52:23 10 minutes to stoppage time straight through every single time with no air conditioning in the locker room. Like I assume there's a lot of that shit as well. But can you tell me about the hydration break and maybe does it change the way you guys are playing? Does it change anything other than the fact that, you know, they're putting more commercials into games? games. Yeah, I told every European that I'm friends with that the U.S. won't sneak away from sneaking an ad in any opportunity that they get. So that's something to get used to for sure. Yes. But I think for us, I mean, I haven't celebrated one goal. I'm always going to the sideline to get to get water any opportunity I can
Starting point is 00:52:56 because playing in this heat again and adjusting to it is obviously a little bit different than playing in Europe. So something to get used to, but yeah, it's normal. Okay, I like it. I appreciate it. And also, you guys, we've been talking about that. there's a little bit, Grella brought it up. I don't know if you guys saw the war Grella started with Australia or not, but he, you did, yeah, had to. Had to say, there was clown heads. Ex-teamate of mine, ex-teamate of mine.
Starting point is 00:53:20 Yeah, of course. Way to go, Grella, way to, way to put the heat on even more. Obviously, World Cup match, there's going to be pressure or whatever the case is. But whenever you guys are more athletic, clearly, like we, I went to the Paraguay game. I was, I'm sorry, Patagway. Padagway. I went to the... This is fucking culture.
Starting point is 00:53:40 What you're watching here is cultured lad, okay? I'm trying to figure this out. I went to the Palo-Lang game, and for the first time ever, it looked like every one of our guys could cook the other team. Like, everybody was faster, it felt like, felt like we were more aggressive, had more moxie, felt like more
Starting point is 00:53:56 confidence on the ball. Obviously, you play for Bournemouth, but is that because all the guys that we have now are playing in these massive leagues are used to the bigger moments playing against these players, so like confidence, a huge piece of what we have right now, or is it skill level and athleticism that we also have that we haven't had in the past? No, listen, confidence is a huge thing.
Starting point is 00:54:15 I think our group has been together long enough that the chemistry is flowing. Everyone feels in sync with one another throughout the entirety of a game. That being said, we also do have a really athletic team. Like when you go around the team and you pick player for player against any team in the world, really, we have an extremely athletic team. And I think you sprinkle that in now with the quality that we have, with guys, playing at the clubs around the world that they do, those two things go hand in hand
Starting point is 00:54:40 with one another. I like that the American team is more athletics and everybody else. Should be. Can you guys catch? You guys can't throw, though, right? That's big. You guys can't do that? Depends who you're talking to. You, can you? Basketball, good. Played basketball in high school. American football. My brother played American
Starting point is 00:54:58 football. So, yeah, just depends. You can throw one, though, and catch? Yeah, a little bit here and there. See, I like that. Sounds like it. know. Yeah, that is. Listen, you see what I do with soccer?
Starting point is 00:55:08 Okay, a lot of commitment. A lot of time. I mean, listen, there's a reason we pick soccer. Let's be real. But also, we're very thankful that you guys did because obviously it's a fun style to watch. You talked about being together and knowing each other's every move. Go ahead, Tone.
Starting point is 00:55:21 Yeah, Tyler, I wanted to talk about that. And specifically in the midfield, you and Weston McKinney, I believe, have been playing together for some sort of U.S. team for like 10-plus years now. Now that you're both 27, and this is obviously multiple World Cups for you guys. How huge is it for you guys to have that camaraderie in the middle between you two and then kind of the other guys that you've been playing with since you're teenagers now? Yeah, no, I've played with Western for a long time. We moved to Florida together to go to residency program for the national team when we were 15, I believe.
Starting point is 00:55:53 So yeah, going on 12 years and knowing one another. And yeah, I feel like I know I'm like I know my brothers at this point. We spend almost too much time together. The banter never changes between the two of us. but it's like we're childhood friends. So, you know, these are the kids that I grew up with. And now as we grow into men and our lives start to evolve, kind of, you know, you're going to war with one another on the field and you have each other's back.
Starting point is 00:56:14 So it brings the team that much closer. Are you guys chirping a lot out there on the field? Are we known as a chirpy team? Me and Weston, I think for sure to other teams. I think we're kind of the catalyst for a lot of that. But, yeah, I think our shit talk is getting a little bit better. Okay, I like that. We're doing that.
Starting point is 00:56:36 It's big. I like it. We're chirping a little bit because it's interesting with the VAR shit. I didn't know they could just go back and get like the petty stuff that's happening behind the scenes. Like I think I saw and obviously I played soccer but it was never really a big soccer watcher. And then obviously I buy in the most whenever you guys are playing. Every time you guys play, I think we're going to win. And I am going full bored that we are going to win.
Starting point is 00:56:57 I didn't know the advancements of VAR that they go to somebody in an apartment. What are the room they're in? Is this big? Yeah. Yeah. They got them kind of shut in. They have the red, they got their cleats on, shut in there. I didn't know we're doing that.
Starting point is 00:57:10 That's three of them, two, in the shot, in the frame, you know, kind of getting in there. It's awesome. But they're going and getting, like, the petty stuff behind the scenes. They're like, oh, they'll look at that the next five minutes or whatever. In the next ball stops, they'll go back. It's like, has that eliminated a lot of the petty shit that, you know, used to happen on a field a lot, I think, as opposed to now? Is it a cleaner style of soccer? Like, how do you kind of describe what's happening at the World Cup right now?
Starting point is 00:57:30 Feels like it's more offensive, a lot more offensive. Yeah, it's more offensive for sure. But that being said, I mean, you can't get away with anything now. I mean, there's a million cameras in the stadium. They have a million different angles to go to. They walk over to the TV. It takes 10 minutes to decide, make a decision, and then, yeah, they can come back, give you red card penalties, corner kicks, whatever.
Starting point is 00:57:52 I mean, it's like the cameras are controlling the game at some point. So you guys are getting a break now. You can't do anything really petty. It feels like it's a new modern song. Yeah, it's awesome. It feels like there's a little bit more energy. It feels like maybe people aren't just getting wounded as they're getting hacked out of nowhere. Hey, this might be the American time.
Starting point is 00:58:11 Maybe this new sport that you guys have all created over in soccer. I like it. It's our sport. We like everything about it. Our attention deficit disorders, whenever we're watching things, you give us a little break. We can go to our phones. Great. Nobody's playing anything.
Starting point is 00:58:23 I'm not missing anything here. Pontotino's on a laptop. Tell me about him, please. This guy seems like he is an electric factory. Can you tell me about Pontino and what you've learned from him? about soccer? When we have water breaks, he's tactically in tune, changing things, whatever he sees from the sidelines.
Starting point is 00:58:41 But he's an incredible guy. He's kind of changed the culture of everything that we have here in U.S. soccer in terms of, you know, he was born and raised in Argentina, a country where, you know, it's a religion to play the game of soccer. And growing up in that and having him kind of share and express his experiences with us, I mean, he's coached some of the best teams in the world, and that's definitely influenced us. Okay, so you were in a residency in high school. Sorry, as I get choked up thinking about your drive there
Starting point is 00:59:09 and not just have an accidental finish of a sip of a drink there as you were wrapping up your answer at the wrong time. I didn't think it was going to be. You talk about residency in high school, though. So obviously you've been a part of the U.S. soccer kind of Federation Association for a long time here now. You have been projected to be one of our guys for a long time. They scouted you at a tournament.
Starting point is 00:59:29 They saw you. They said, hey, this is going to be the future of the United States of America. you guys are kind of placed into a group there. Ponchatino coming in and changing the mindset has been a big part of like the sub-socer committee online, I think, is like Pontchino may be changing everything. How do you feel about the way U.S. soccer is now and how we got to this moment
Starting point is 00:59:48 and what Ponce maybe does for the future of U.S. soccer? So there's more, Tyler Adams, there's more of this kind of to sustain success. Yeah, it's the evolution of the game. I think for us, you know, the first goal has to be, getting our best young players playing at the highest level possible. And a lot of us are doing that at this moment in time. And I think that's why you see everything coming together.
Starting point is 01:00:11 That being said, people forget how big the country it is and how hard it is to kind of put all those players together. Also, in the U.S., obviously, as you guys know, there's so many other sports that kids can pick. I think by us having a successful World Cup, more kids will want to pick up a soccer ball and continue playing and developing, knowing that there's a chance for them to reach the highest level
Starting point is 01:00:30 and be the next me, Christian Pool, It's Weston McKinney, and the list goes on and on. So I think you give these kids more of a chance to grow the game. A lot of that weighs on us and our success. Yeah, I like that we're having a boom right now. And I like how cool Paunch looks on the sideline. Yeah. He's got Air Forces on, okay?
Starting point is 01:00:47 He's got that blue, whatever it is. Yeah. It's like a mechanics outfit. A fishing shirt. I have no idea how that became the costume. I love it. But I love it. I mean, he's got one button.
Starting point is 01:00:58 Yeah. Let's go. I need a little room down here. I need a little room up here. but I do want to look cool. His hair, too, flowing, and he's everywhere on this. I mean, we're doing a lot of clapping. We're doing a lot of yelling.
Starting point is 01:01:08 I love the moxie. I love what our team has. I also appreciate that it sounds like we have a postgame routine that the world might be catching on with. Go ahead, Con, man. Yeah, Tyler, kind of the moment of the tournament so far has been you guys singing country roads after that victory in Seattle. What was that like for you?
Starting point is 01:01:24 Have you ever experienced something like that? And can you kind of describe the emotion? Because even Ponce mentioned, like, hey, I was emotional. The whole team was emotional doing that. And how cool was that for you? Yeah, I think the best moment for me after that was when, you know, Potch had our team talk after the game. And he goes, guys, listening to that made me feel really American. And I was like, that's exactly what I want to hear. I mean, the atmosphere of that game was probably the best that I've played in in terms of for sure the national team. But just in general, the fans singing the national anthem before the game. Like that was electric.
Starting point is 01:01:59 And then obviously after, you know, listening to Country Roads, looking at my family singing, everyone's excited, everyone's smiling. It was incredible. Yeah, almost heaven, baby. West Virginia. But a lot of you guys for soccer do have to go abroad, you know, to do your job, to do your gig. So, you know, Country Roads take me home.
Starting point is 01:02:18 There you go. It is not a bad little tie in, too, for, you know, if you want to get an emotional tie to that. Now, there's a chance it sounds like we're going to be singing it coming up. I don't know if you're going to be sweaty when that's happening. Go ahead, Ty. Tyler, what is the approach when you look ahead to Thursday? Obviously, you know, you want to keep up the momentum because you guys been playing so well,
Starting point is 01:02:36 but I know you have a yellow and we have a couple other guys who are on yellows. Like, how is that going to be balanced in terms of like this game against TurkeyA really doesn't mean shit, but also we've been playing so well that we still want to have a good showing out there? Yeah, it's a tough one. I mean, obviously, I've been asked the question already. I'm a firm believer in momentum. You know, when things are going well, you try and stay as consistent as possible. I'm happy I'm not a coach to make that decision.
Starting point is 01:03:07 But yeah, well, we'll see. Sounds good. Everybody was told not to say shit. We will give an answer whenever we have an answer. Okay, I like it. Hey, thank you for doing what you're doing for our country, man. The world's rallying around soccer and our country is certainly rallying around you guys. And I think the performances you've been putting up out there have been spectacular. They've been entertaining.
Starting point is 01:03:28 And you got people that are just football meatheads binding completely to our country. No flopping. There's really no flopping. There's not like whining, I don't think. Like, legitimately, it feels like a lot of people are watching the team and watching your games that don't know shit
Starting point is 01:03:42 and expect just something terrible to happen. And you guys are dogs, dude. We appreciate the hell out of it. We very, very, very grateful for what you guys are doing for us right now. I appreciate y'all, man. That means a lot. All right, good luck out there, okay? And if you pick up another yellow card, mean?
Starting point is 01:03:58 Suspended for the next round. Okay, yeah. So you're not fucking playing. You, or stay on your feet. Slow balligan, okay, Chris Richards and Anthony Robinson. Okay, so let's just go through. All those guys.
Starting point is 01:04:08 Hit the bench. Yeah, see ya. Grab some fine. Yeah, we need you in the... Turkey, they already fired your coach. Who cares? Let's go to the elimination round. You're the man.
Starting point is 01:04:18 Ladies and Joe, Tyler Adams. Yeah. Tyler. I think we got to it there at the end. Yep. Yeah. People that are obviously buying tickets to the game are I don't want to see the big names that have already happened over the first couple games here.
Starting point is 01:04:30 But it's like a lot of our big name guys are all sitting on a yellow. And if they get another yellow in a game that is meaningless, obviously we're already through. We've already punched our ticket. They have to miss our first elimination game. It's like, yeah, right. That can't happen. Punch his ass would be. Oh, man.
Starting point is 01:04:45 Could you imagine game management like that? No. He would never. He would never. We can't. We got a deep roster. We're going to see a lot of them. All right.
Starting point is 01:04:53 We're back on the other side with some more of that conversation. I think you'll enjoy it. Goodbye. Are the greatest of all time, and I'll tell you what, we got World Cup fever over here. Everybody's excited about these soccer games that are taking place all over North America. Yeah. I'll tell you, it's hard not to buy in
Starting point is 01:05:21 whenever all the stars are showing up. We've done a lot of trusting of the stars whenever we do our gambling with our friends at Draft Kings. Yes, we are a partner. Yes, if you're 21 plus, and have the capability. of gambling responsibly, we'd like you to come join us. But don't be an asshole.
Starting point is 01:05:35 You're not going to become a bazillionaire. But as we have continued to kind of decipher what we want to do and how we want to go about doing it on a daily team ride situation, we've been doing a lot of trust on other stars. We did it hockey. Obviously, we did it in basketball, and we're doing it in soccer. Let me tell you, these soccer stars, these fucking guys show up.
Starting point is 01:05:56 Okay? And we are grateful for that. These guys, all the names you know, messy. Mbop. Mm-bop. Mm-bop. Who scored again?
Starting point is 01:06:07 Mm-bop. Two times. Holland down there? Whole. Monster. Back-to-back two times. Scoring. Messy?
Starting point is 01:06:16 This guy could have had another hat trick. Missed a penalty. Makes a penalty as a hat-trick to back-to-back. Has two goals. And for America, we're scoring goals in every single game. It's like soccer stars are showing up. And then today, just moments ago, a star that we have all known in his sixth World Cup, One of the most handsome people ever created.
Starting point is 01:06:36 Christian Ronado had a goal. Did he? Yeah. Yes, he did. Just did. You know, one half of the hammer, Dad! Cowboys, Baba Gumpino said, hey, whenever you're picking soccer games,
Starting point is 01:06:49 you should just pick the star of the team to score a goal and then the team to win if you like the team to win. Because it turns out the stars of the team are the stars of the team because these guys score. That is what they do. And it feels like in this World Cup it's happening in a massive way to start. What a dream scenario for soccer as a whole and the World Cup. The Toxic Table is here who also has World Cup fever at Boston Connor and that Ty Schmidt.
Starting point is 01:07:11 I don't think we expected this tie. I don't think we would be necessarily described as soccer people. But this World Cup fever has kind of taken over a little bit. Yeah, certainly not. And I think it was maybe just last week. It might have been earlier this week when we were talking about maybe Jordan and Austria. And I basically said, hey, you couldn't give me $100,000 to watch this game. That was less than 10 days ago.
Starting point is 01:07:32 Exactly. You know what I was doing last night? Watching it. On pins and needles watching Algeria and whoever the hell. Jordan. Yeah, Jordan. On pins and needles, watch it. I mean, as soon as I got home, boom, you know.
Starting point is 01:07:44 Let's get the iPad on. Let's get whatever game's going. And as soon as that's over, hey, let's get over to the other one. It really is. It's special. Because I, like, previous World Cups, you'd check in on the Messies and the Christiana and all those. Like, I'm not saying I would sit down and watch a whole game,
Starting point is 01:07:59 but I would definitely like, at bits and pieces, I would go in and be like, okay, let's just see what's going on. No, no, no, not anymore. I mean, every game that's on, and again, maybe the fact that it's on home soil and the times aren't weird, so it is kind of, it almost feels like an NFL Sunday a little bit. Your games are perfectly spaced out. You just roll in from one to the next one,
Starting point is 01:08:17 and then all the games have been entertaining. I mean, I just, boy, the World Cup might be my favorite event ever. It really might be. Ever. And that's the thing, too, is like, how often do we go into something like, oh, this is going to be awesome. Oh, I can't wait for it. And then it gets here and it stinks.
Starting point is 01:08:33 Like, this thing has lived up to the hype completely. And I don't want to bring up the World Baseball Classic. But that kind of jumps to the front of my mind where it's like, oh, yeah, we're going to win this. This is going to be easy. We're going to be nasty. And then we lose Italy and everything happens how it does. And this in the World Cup, I mean, Team USA is dominating. Could we have actually seen that happening?
Starting point is 01:08:54 Maybe. But for it to really be taking place, unbelievable. and then when you talk about Messi and Kane and Mbop and Rinaldo and Harry Cain, I think I already said him. Halan is the other one I'm missing. Those guys showing up. Like, Halan's second goal last night was ridiculous.
Starting point is 01:09:09 It was like a one-timer. He's a giant. He's huge. I love that man. And he delivers. Like all these guys delivering has been so cool. And definitely the times being when they are. I think we all remember Cutter in December during football season games being at 2 a.m. Sorry, that's not going to happen.
Starting point is 01:09:26 These games are on when we are all up. It has been the perfect World Cup so far. Yeah, I love that the stars showing up. I love that soccer's getting a big boost. One half of the hammer, that Cowboys AP tone. And the stars have been delivering. We've been kind of riding with that on Draft Kings.
Starting point is 01:09:42 Yeah, we talk about like the World Cup fever. It helps when all of the casual sports and soccer fans. They probably go to the sports book and they're like, oh, let's get Messi to score. Let's get Moppaida to score. Let's get Holland to score. Let's get Rinaldo to score. Harry Kane. And then they all do
Starting point is 01:09:57 and their team is winning. There are people who probably have never bet soccer in their life before who are winning thousands and thousands of dollars off of these guys scoring two goals at a time. Back to back games, their first two games in each groups, they've all scored two goals at least. That
Starting point is 01:10:13 never, ever, ever happens and it's happening at this World Cup and people are feasting off of it. Yeah, they certainly are. Now, we remember that the tides can always turn quickly. That seemingly does happen, but we will certainly enjoy the moments when the big are doing everything that we would hope the big names would do on the biggest stage, which is show up and deliver in a big way, including Cristiano Ronaldo, just moments ago for Portugal.
Starting point is 01:10:34 Joining us now is a man who texted us to tell us that Cristiano Ronaldo scored because we're not able to be watching live, but he is because he's in an attic in Ohio. He's a college football national champion and college football Hall of Fame nominee. Yes. He's the all-time leading tackler for the Green Bay Packers. He's a Super Bowl champion. He's also a man who believes that something's going on whenever it comes to aliens. Ladies and gentlemen, AJ Hawke.
Starting point is 01:10:55 Thank you, AJ. You're muted, Dick. I meet your mic, ass hat. It's not on my side. I don't know. I didn't touch anything. I don't know whatever's going on. But yeah, I saw Renaudo score. He actually kind of missed an opportunity earlier. They had sent a big cross to him. He kind of nubbed it, I guess, and didn't score.
Starting point is 01:11:14 And then he redeemed himself. Look for him to go and run. That dude, I don't know if you guys saw his face. Like, he was so juiced and relieved after that goal, I feel like. Yeah, I saw an extra. You know, after, and I just thought of speed losing his mind to it all. Because with what Messi's been doing and whatever, without everybody else has been doing, and him being in the Saudi League, okay, which isn't necessarily globally talked about as much as maybe the other leagues,
Starting point is 01:11:39 this is a big stage in America for Cristiano in order to be reminding people like, hey, Six World Cup for me as well. First game comes and goes, no goal. Messy's doing his thing. Everybody else is a star. People starting to wonder about Cristiano. And then just a few moments ago, he had a goal. And I think the World Cup has been seeing numbers that we've never seen before because I think we've been seeing more
Starting point is 01:12:04 goals than we've ever seen before. And I think whenever people see goals, they get excited. Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, is a man who's called a lot of goal over his six-time Emmy Award-winning career. Commentator from Telemundo, ladies and gentlemen, Andres Cantor. Hey, bad guys. How are you? Hey, man. Thank God you guys are doing it because I have no voice. I mean, you do great. You really did great. Thank you. We were listening yesterday, as obviously history was set by Leo Messi whenever it comes to amount of goals in a World Cup. You can tell you got emotional. Obviously, you are Argentinian descent and now one of the voices of a global sport. Yesterday, you lost your mind, but we were just talking about it. Leo showing up and scoring as many goals as he's scoring is huge for the sport, huge for World Cup. And I'm not lying whenever I say, the more goes, the better. Do you agree with that? And what are your kind of thoughts on the start of the World Cup? 100%.
Starting point is 01:13:34 100%. And the fact is that people, perhaps, you know, the casual viewer only knows Messi, only knows Mbap, only knows Halen because of Premier League. And Messi scores, the game in Dallas was at 12 noon. He scores a race, then comes France, Mbapest scores a brace, then comes Norway, Holland scores a brace, and now Cristiano's on the board. So, I mean, it doesn't get any better than this. This is really, really star power at its best. Look at these guys, you know.
Starting point is 01:14:06 Messi has five goals in two games, and the guy is turning 39 tomorrow. Can you tell me about Messi a little bit, because obviously Christiana Renato, who just scored a goal? Was it a goat conversation with him, I believe. They were obviously coming up at the same time. Both of them in their sixth World Cup, so obviously same age group. Pele of the past, obviously chit-chatted about. Let's not even get into Tony Miola, how people talk about him as all-time great-go's world. But it did feel like it was Ronaldo and Messi being chatted about.
Starting point is 01:14:44 Now it feels like not only because he came to the MLS, but because how he's performing now after already winning a World Cup for his country, he's kind of cemented that status. Is that accurate for us to talk about him like that? And what are some other reasons on why? Definitely. I mean, I think the discussion goes nowhere. They're both great football players.
Starting point is 01:15:01 Cristiano did his, you know, his thing in Europe for so many years as the Messi. Now they're both one in Saudi Arabia. Like you said, Leo here at Inter Miami in MLS and he's shiny. He's the MVP. He scores most of the goals for his team as well. So I think it's, you don't have to enter into the discussion of who is better. because obviously in football, soccer, we judge greatness. Sometimes, and you guys that play the NFL, you can tell me,
Starting point is 01:15:30 can you be the greatest without winning a Super Bowl? Because Cristiano never won the World Cup and Messi up to Qatar 2020. Good point. Wasn't considered the greatest because Maradona had won the World Cup. How is it in NFL terms? I mean, if you break all sorts of records, but you don't win, you know, the ring, are you considered one of the greatest? You know the answer to that.
Starting point is 01:15:53 Sounds like you know the answer to that. So I'm not even going to have to get into that. But that is fascinating because Messi fan in the office, Gumpy has all the Miami FC Inter-Miamy kits and everything like that. Obviously a huge fan of how he plays. He's been saying he's the greatest of all time for a long time. And he feels as if whenever he won the World Cup for Argentina, it almost like freed him.
Starting point is 01:16:16 And now he's playing even better. Do you agree with that? And how much longer do we think we see Messi post the stress of winning his country a World Cup? A hundred percent. He needed to, because in Argentina, you know, soccer is life and death. And he wasn't judged as the goat, as the best, because he had not won the World Cup. And he did in 2022.
Starting point is 01:16:36 So now, obviously, he's got that shit of his back. He's, you know, won two Copelandigas. He won the World Cup. He won, you know, MLS title here, another title due to his 41 titles in his career. He's 39 to most. and I don't think we'll see him again, not at the World Cup stage, but, you know, let's enjoy him while he lasts. Let's enjoy him, Christiano.
Starting point is 01:17:01 Kiliang, Mbapé is younger, so he'll be around and he'll probably break all sorts of records because he's 27, if I'm not wrong. So let's enjoy Messi. We all thought Qatar in 2022 was his last dance. This is definitely Christianos and Messi's last dance. Hey, Mbapapé only needs a few more. More. Goals.
Starting point is 01:17:28 Two more. Yeah. Two more to tie messy. But you know what? You were talking about the World Cup, guys. Hey, the best is yet to come. I mean, don't get this wrong. These games in the knockouts, they're very stressful because if you make a mistake, you can go home.
Starting point is 01:17:45 But then when it's single elimination starting next week, you will see the real World Cup starting. So the best is yet to come. And I'm glad. I am so glad that Pat McAfee and everywhere in this show is enjoying the World Cup and hopefully watching on Telemundo. Yeah, definitely watch on Telemundo, especially across. I don't want to say this because it's not good because obviously we stay updated with our phones because we are responsible adults. But here in the Midwest, there's a lot of storms potentially coming for a lot of these games. So the Fox affiliate has to cover the storms obviously live.
Starting point is 01:18:17 So it's in a box and box. But guess what? We head over to Telemundo. Guess are we here? And as this thing progressed? I know who to call if I, uh, if I start losing my voice. No, no, no, no. I don't know if I, wait, wait, wait, Boston, Boston. Boston. Boston, Boston, Boston, Boston,
Starting point is 01:18:38 Boston Connor, where are you? Yes, sir, right here. You go, go. I mean, go one by one. Come on. I can't, I can't judge the decibels of, of everyone. Let's start with Boston. Do a little buildup. Okay, yeah, yeah, of course, Polisicisic. Pass it to the left. All of a sudden, Balogin breaks to the middle. Oh, he's got his head on it. That is a good. Oh, we're got. More got. More got. Awesome. Oh my God. Man, I think you can do this for a living. Boom. Side seal delivered. Give me a call.
Starting point is 01:19:36 Who wants to go next? No one. You know the beauty? He knew the American player's name. That's another great thing. Yes. Okay. Yeah. Okay. You have me no. Following along. Hey, Pat, you want to go? Hey, Pat, come on. Your standing is better than being sitting down, because you can really go longer. I'll tell you, I don't think so. You know how you, in the NFL,
Starting point is 01:20:00 they go to like Dean Blandino, who's like in a booth somewhere, maybe you should think about dialing up con. I'm ready. Just whenever it's like maybe the fifth or sixth goal of the game and maybe you've already worn out all your, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go. All the different, uh,
Starting point is 01:20:14 go to lots, so. I think there's like multiple different ones that you have. Maybe you just go to Con or sitting in his room, just ready to absolutely unload. I'll be watching. and I'll be ready. AJ, AJ was laughing.
Starting point is 01:20:26 You and I have it go? Yes. Yeah, go on. Yeah, go on. I can't talk that. AJ, American just won the World Cup.
Starting point is 01:20:36 I do a real question for you, though. What do you think of this American team? We start out too low. We're hot. We think we're winning at all. What are you, like, what are your realistic expectations for us? Semi-finals.
Starting point is 01:20:45 Now, after seeing them play, they play the best football in, in the opener, which is no small feat because, you know, the nerves, everyone's very nervous. very anxious that the World Cup is here in home soil. Day outplay Paraguay, they played a hell of a game.
Starting point is 01:21:00 To me was the best World Cup performance ever. So the sky's the limit now with this team. They're going to have, they're really secure the first place. They go July 1st to Santa Clara, California. They will play one of the best third place teams. So they will have hopefully an easy buy there. I mean, an easy matchup. Yes, bye.
Starting point is 01:21:20 And semi-final, semi-final is now. the expectation the goal yeah okay i hope so soccer fever will go crazy which leads to this question from tone oh yeah andres obviously you're argentinian uh but you moved here when you were a teenager um could you like could you have expected in your whole life being here in the u.s that soccer would ever be like this in the u.s i feel like the fever is incredible the world cup is incredible the stadiums are packed to the brim did you know before this 2026 world cup that it could be like this is this what you expected? I had a little taste in 1994 when it was a different era of soccer and the World Cup was played in our country. I knew it was going to be a success. Furthermore, the president of FIFA
Starting point is 01:22:04 Gianny Infantino is using my line all along that it's 104 Super Bowls in 39 days of competitions. And I think that is what it is. I mean, the, the atmosphere, not only the stadiums, let me tell you guys, you know, in the cities where the games are played, it's tremendous. It's really, really, good. And yeah, I expected, I mean, I'm with Ty. I didn't think that yesterday, Algiers against Jordan in Santa Clara, we're going to pack 67,000 people. Honestly, I did not. And it doesn't matter how cheap or how expensive the tickets were yesterday, but hey, they played before a full house. Can you imagine that? Algiers against Jordan in San Francisco, Santa Clara, California. So going back to your question, yes, I expected the World Cup to be big. It's getting bigger. It's going to
Starting point is 01:22:51 to get even, you know, bigger if the U.S. national team does well, and they're doing a hell of a job so far. Yeah, us knowing Freeman, too, in the family, and being able to tie it together is awesome. Him being a young star. Us knowing the names from last World Cup, you know, I think a lot of people kind of knew the names from last World Cup whenever it was the topic of discussion. But now just such better outcomes and seemingly a much better product. Now, on that note, I got to be there in L.A. It felt fantastic. Gumpy was down in Houston for the Dutch.
Starting point is 01:23:21 Sweden game or whatever. And Connor has a last question for you here, Andre. Yeah, Andres, when it comes to the atmospheres in the stadium, you mentioned the game last night, and it feels like every single one has been massive. You've been to a lot of World Cups. As far as the fans inside the stadium and also just experiencing, you know, America, Mexico, everywhere the games are,
Starting point is 01:23:43 is this the best it's ever been? Because it feels like at least from the outside looking in and Pat and Gump, they've been to the games. It feels as though this is kind of the most celebrated and most successful fan atmosphere experience thus far. It probably is because it brings people, you know, we could have sold out stadiums in this country just with the expats alone. If we would have closed our borders, we could have sold out all the stadiums with all the Ecuadorians, with all the Argentinians, with all the Scots, I am sure of that. So people who are coming into the States for the first time because of the World Cup are. experiencing, you know, the beauty of our country. I mean, the organization, I have to say,
Starting point is 01:24:24 has been superb. The stadiums have been, you know, they've been touched up a little bit. They're not your usual NFL stadium because FIFA takes over and it gives you that World Cup feeling everywhere you go from the minute you park your car until you enter the stadium and you have the fan fest and you have people from all over and it's bringing people together, guys. It's bringing people together. Not anywhere else do you see you know, two nationalities embracing and just cheering on the World Cup like I've seen in all the stadiums I've been so far. Yeah, it's been special to watch. It feels like it's a special time in like our society's history. And I think the more...
Starting point is 01:25:05 The better. You're the man. We appreciate you. Good luck the rest of the way. Thank you. Thank you. Ladies and gentlemen, a gift to society. Andres Cantor. Yeah, Andre. The goat. Yeah, the man. I was wondering if he was just going to let us do it every time, you know, like impersonation is the greatest form of flattery or whatever, you know. He was just going to let us continue to just give him his flowers. Happy, we got one with him and he got one by himself.
Starting point is 01:25:42 Yeah, he had one. Thank God. That's like if you get buffer on and just immediately go, what are we getting ready for? What are we getting ready? What are we getting ready? What are we? What are we? We should all. Let's get ready. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:26:00 Yeah. do that. That was awesome. I have that. Oh, yeah. We have that forever now. Now, I would like to say, it is an honor that we have that forever now.
Starting point is 01:26:09 Sure. And watching a soccer game with him is an experience, because I don't understand, you know. I don't really understand what's going on, but I feel like I do. You know? He's great. I mean, those guys, he is, yeah,
Starting point is 01:26:22 he is the tip of the spear. We watch highlights. We watch highlights for him earlier. Just no idea what he's saying in between, just names and then the, Oh, you see that. Yeah, it's only passion. It's constantly screaming for two and a half hours, pretty much.
Starting point is 01:26:36 Literally telling the story of living on every single touch of the ball. Oh, he's having to swing. Ah! Oh. Now we go back. It's unbelievable. It's real. I don't know how he has the gas to be able to do it.
Starting point is 01:26:52 So whenever he said, like, hey, I'm a little bit dry. I did think that was real because I could see how he could not speak after those games. It's a long game. He's getting a hydration break, though, too. Yeah, needs it. You're right. They don't like the hydration break. I don't think we're just kind of used to it.
Starting point is 01:27:06 Big time. Doesn't bother me at all. And it breaks up the game a little. Doing a quarter, okay, sweet. Let punch get on his shit. Yeah, exactly. Is it always at the same thing? Do they know when they're coming?
Starting point is 01:27:15 21 minutes in, I think, and then like 57 or something, 67. I forget what it is. Oh. But it is like quarters. There's some breaking news in the NFL. Oh, oh, oh, oh. AJ, we have some breaking news in the NFL. Go ahead.
Starting point is 01:27:27 What is the back? Yeah, it just came through Schefter's Twitter. NFL's declining to hold a supplemental draft this summer? Okay, that's a huge deal, obviously. Yesterday was the deadline for applications. Brendan Sorsby was the one who applied publicly, obviously, to the supplemental draft. It all came down to, I believe, Roger Goodell, inevitably having to make a decision after talking to everybody around the NFL
Starting point is 01:27:50 and kind of getting an understanding of what everybody's thoughts were. Just in, the NFL is declining to hold a supplemental draft this summer, We're currently leaving the 2027 draft as the only way for Brennan Soresby to enter the NFL. A letter is being sent to Sorsby and to all 32 NFL teams to inform them of the league's decision. This league continues to try to show it as little tolerance for gambling issues. We mentioned this a couple different times as this came up. It's like, hey, there's going to be people in the NFL that are like, yeah, right, dude. Yep.
Starting point is 01:28:15 Not with our league, not with our game. That can't come anywhere close to it. I did not expect this at all, AJ. Honestly, with the way he was being talked about how, hey, most guys, most people who are talking to her saying second round, He's a first round talent. Obviously, the NFL has been forgiving in the past if you have talent. And now the NFL is saying, you can do next draft, dude. That's what you're going to do.
Starting point is 01:28:35 And then we'll evaluate you then. I think this is a surprising decision, AJ Hawk. This is very surprising. I mean, I think we both said when we heard like, oh, well, it's up to the league. If they have the draft or not, we said, what's going to happen? We know what's going to happen. We thought it would. I guess this is what?
Starting point is 01:28:51 This is Raj's way of, you know, I guess of punishing Sorsby. Right now, they can't come back. and after he gets drafted in 2027 and say, hey, you've got to sit out four games, can't they? Like, they wouldn't do that. I don't know, because I think what, next year could potentially just be framed as the year's suspension that he would potentially have to serve
Starting point is 01:29:08 and that's, we'll wait until official I guess quote from the NFL? Can you go playing the UFO? I think so, right? I think he could go do the UFL. I wonder about the CFL. I wonder about that type of stuff. I wonder if he'll just prepare for the draft, which we've seen guys take off their senior year or their last
Starting point is 01:29:24 year and just prepare for the draft. and kind of go about doing their life that way. So there's a multitude of options now for Sorsby. One of which is also to say you have to open a supplemental draft. Isn't there some sort of, I assume? Yeah, we talked about this with Shephti on his podcast this morning, and he said kind of he was expecting that there was no way that they would decline it because he just assumed that litigation would follow probably.
Starting point is 01:29:48 If they say no, like you would assume that he could sue or there going to be something like that, but who knows, apparently not. All right. We'll talk to Schifter at the end of the hour here. joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, as we pivot away from a major news story in the NFL to a major champion from this past weekend. Ladies and gentlemen, two-time U.S. Open champ. A man who joined the program last week, which we're obviously incredibly pumped for,
Starting point is 01:30:10 because then he would go on to win. Just a few days later, a major championship, so we can never be deemed as a curse. Thank you to this man for that. Ladies and gentlemen, Wyndham Clark. Yeah, we go. That's up, boys. Windham. forever we now have you so thank you so much because every once in a while we'll be a part of some
Starting point is 01:30:31 unfortunate situations okay somebody will come on show something ass will happen just a few days later we get blamed for it okay that has happened more than often uh than not on my my mentions but i will always just defer to windham clark came on the show wins a fucking major wire to wire literally just a couple days later let's talk about all of it first day uh everybody says you get lucky with the You're lucky with the wind. You take advantage of it. Obviously, there was other people golfing at the same time. You were.
Starting point is 01:31:01 You took advantage of it the most. Then you have to sleep on that. Then the rest of the weekend, everybody kind of has the similar weather, and you just dial into flat stick and dominate. There was a shot on 16 where he had to come out of the thickness. Can you just tell me about the mental battle that you had all weekend? And then, obviously, if you want to talk about Shinnecock, kind of showing its teeth to you, would love to hear about it.
Starting point is 01:31:22 But what a wonderful performance by you that we will brag about. forever. So thank you for making that happen for us, Windham. Oh, yeah. Yeah, you're very welcome. I think part of the reason why the curse didn't happen is I didn't even know about it. So I guess ignorance was bliss. I didn't know either. I didn't know either, brother. And I know it's not real now. So let's go ahead and celebrate ignorance is bliss. But wire to wire, bell to bell, the mental toughness of that is absurd, especially with some people cheering against you. How did that go versus maybe the course itself? Yeah. I mean, honestly, that was one of the biggest challenges. you know, the first few days, you know, people were cheering for me and they were rooting for
Starting point is 01:32:00 good golf shots, et cetera. But as we got to Saturday, people wanted me to, you know, miss puts and were cheering for me to miss putts. They were, you know, yelling some profanities and whatnot, just simply because they didn't want me to win, but also they maybe wanted a closer championship. And then come Sunday, I mean, they wanted anyone and everyone but me. And so that was a challenge. Now, Shinnickok is a very tough golf course, and, you know, that in itself is difficult. So those two combined made for a tough Sunday, but, you know, I persevered and I embraced a challenge. And, you know, I thought if I just showed the fans love and kindness that they would ultimately root for me at the end. I don't know if they did, but maybe next time I'm there, they'll be pulling for me instead of against me.
Starting point is 01:32:46 I thought the way you handled it was very well done. Your answer afterwards was spectacular. Your answer last week to Tone, who obviously used to caddy at Oakmont, was spectacular. I think you understand the elephant in the room. I think you've been made aware of it obviously enough, and now you're trying to earn people back, which I think is exactly what you said in that. And I think your performance certainly did that as well. There was a couple shots like this one right here.
Starting point is 01:33:07 Tone has a question for you. Yeah, Wyndham 16 was unbelievable. Obviously, you're up one stroke. Now three holes to play, and you pulled into the native area off the T. And Bones, who used to be filmed Mickleson's caddy, said it was a horrendous, lie on the broadcast. He said it was horrible. There was no way that you're going to be able to get out, and you do. You clear the bunker. You're in
Starting point is 01:33:26 position A here for your third shot. And then you sink a 25 foot birdie, maybe longer. Like how, what was your thinking coming out of that native area? And then after you hit this birdie, what was your thoughts? Well, Bones, I think, was just
Starting point is 01:33:41 you know, teeing me up because it was definitely a tough lie, but it wasn't maybe as tough as he made it out to be. But there was definitely some talk between my caddy and I. He kind of, he made sure multiple times like, hey, can you cover this? You sure. You feel confident. And, you know, with golf, if you can get to the back of the ball, you can get the ball out and hit it farther. And there wasn't, even though there's a lot of grass around me, I could hit the ball first. And so I thought, you know what? I think I can
Starting point is 01:34:09 muscle this out. Definitely closer to the bunker than I thought, but glad it covered. And then, you know, making that put was kind of the pivotal point of the rounds. It gave me, you know, two shot leave with two to go, so I felt way more comfortable. And now it's definitely the most emotion in the loudest I've ever been on a golf course because hardly anyone, as you can see, is clapping for me or wanting me, but I sure definitely showed my emotion. And that was kind of like, you know, that defining moment for the day. Yeah, we could feel it through the screen, brother. I mean, there was a couple tweets I put out there about this being one of the most wild things I've ever seen, you know, and then other people are talking about never seen an American golfer you
Starting point is 01:34:52 treated like this in America. And once again, can't stress this enough. The way you handled it was phenomenal. Now, Rory told a guy he was a fatso, which we saw live. So I think the New York people are going to chat a little bit in this whole thing. But I like that you were focused on your golf. I like that you were locked in on getting the job done. And I like that you're a dog, dude. You wear the Jack Hughes jersey up in Canada a week beforehand. You got an entire crowd pulling against you. And then on the 18th hole, you have to lag putt one from like, what, 40 feet? I don't know how far it is.
Starting point is 01:35:23 Whatever the case. 57 maybe? And you could, majors on the line. Everybody in there is hoping that you leave some meat on the bone. Everybody in there's not everybody. Not everybody. I assume it feels like everybody here wants me to leave a little meat on the bone. And in golf a sport where you have to have so much touch and you can't get tens of
Starting point is 01:35:42 up or anything like that. The lag pot here is something that needs to be talked about as well. What are your, what's going through your mind and how do you keep like, how do you not get hands either? How do you not, like what is kind of your routine to not have that happen when that's a huge moment in your life, obviously. You weren't part of the everybody, right, Pat? No, I was pulling for you, Wyndham. I was on your side. Okay.
Starting point is 01:36:02 Thank you. I just wanted to make sure. Read through the socials. I was on your back. I did go through some mentions with you in notifications last week. And I didn't know that, that people were like. really, really upset with like how you act sometimes. I didn't know in the Oakmont thing that Tone asked about, obviously, because he was a caddy.
Starting point is 01:36:19 We didn't know he was going to ask about that, but he wasn't the only one. It felt like a lot of people were still, you know, it, I mo- I didn't know that that was the case until our mentions together last week. So then whenever I watched it kind of unfold, I was like, okay, this is a, this is a super mental test right now, especially in a sport where you have to be relaxed. I don't think you can get like tense. I don't think you could get like mad. And that put, I think, is a great depiction of that. Like, how do you not want to tell somebody to go fuck themselves, especially with what they were saying about you in that all,
Starting point is 01:36:48 while also having enough touch on these greens that are allegedly the hardest in history because it's a USGA course? This lag put, what is going through your mind? How do you kind of handle all those things? And in golf, can you have a dog mentality that you want to fight people while you're golfing? Like, how do you kind of approach that? Well, the lag put I'll talk about first. I, in 23, I had a similar situation.
Starting point is 01:37:12 Honestly, it was like deja vu. I hit in the fairway. I hit it to the front of the green and I had a two putt to win and I had a one-shot lead and I hit it up there to give me range. And so I literally just envisioned that and said, hey, I've done this before. I can do it again. And obviously I did that. So that, it was honestly deja vu as I'm walking up.
Starting point is 01:37:31 I'm like, this is wild. And then as far as the attitude thing, yeah, I mean, sure, there are some things in my mind I was thinking, but, you know, it's a gentleman sport. And I also, I didn't want to feed into the crowd. I wanted to try to win them over and show them that I'm not the person that did that terrible thing at Oakmont. And I wanted them to see, this is the real windom. This is, you know, I'm a dog. I want to, I want to win. I'm a competitor. And I'm going to do it in class. So, listen, I got pissed, acted like an asshole. I'm sorry. Now, with that being said, Watch me go wire to wire here.
Starting point is 01:38:09 Okay, and of course that everybody said was impossible and played multiple different ways. Can you tell me about the different styles of Shinnecock over the weekend? And also the Greens, how they were changing every single time. Go ahead, Ty. Yeah, Windom, I can't remember what the stat was, but it was something about, you know, the average player on tour makes, you know, what might have been like 10 plus feet. Yeah, here we go. Plus from 2025 feet, you know, 12 percent, and you were at 50 percent on the week,
Starting point is 01:38:34 which is just absurd. is that the best you've putted over a four-day period in your life? And also, like Pat mentioned, how much different was it playing? Because we saw, I think it was Friday night after you got out to that big lead. They basically, like, the report came out like, hey, they're going to make the greens faster. Like, we're changing this. So it's going to be a little bit more treacherous over the weekend. Did you notice any change in that or not really because it sure as hell didn't look like you did?
Starting point is 01:39:00 Yeah, you know, I've had some other great putting displays. I would say just a few weeks ago at the Byron Nelson was hands down maybe the best putting of my career or my final round 60 at Pebble. But as far as a four-day tournament, I mean relative to the field, yeah, this is definitely, definitely up there. And the Greens did change. The first day, you know, I was playing with Dustin Johnson and Gary, we couldn't believe how soft and benign the Greens were. Now, granted, they were expecting tons of wind and potentially rain. And so the USGA did an amazing job setting up the golf course and highlighting how good Shenicoke is rather than making it look tricked up.
Starting point is 01:39:39 And the same thing was on Friday. It was kind of benign and you can make putts. Saturday, it's like I don't even know how you can change a golf course that much in 24 hours. It went from being soft greens. You could spin it back to where, I mean, it was getting purple. It was so baked out. And the greens got so difficult.
Starting point is 01:39:58 And any wind was moving the ball. guys were finally bouncing over greens and they even then adjusted Saturday because they thought maybe it got out of control and I think some guys complained about it. Then it got to like really pure and good on Sunday where it was like a perfect firmness
Starting point is 01:40:14 it was fast but not too fast you know so it was amazing it changed literally every day. But I think that's what they want though right? The USGA wants the courses that they take the US open to to be a real challenge for the golfers. I think they were probably happy with where the scores ended up yeah. You know there's like three guys under part
Starting point is 01:40:30 I think they thought that. They were doing live interviews while you were burying these puts, the president. Like, we took a lot of pride in this year making it right, getting it right. Having four different courses is a hilarious thing
Starting point is 01:40:40 for you guys to have to adjust to, especially with some of those punishments. Man. Hey, there was some real punishment on that course, bro. I was watching people look like me out there on some of those golf courses. You sometimes. Yeah, I mean, there is.
Starting point is 01:40:53 That shit's hard, brother. The mental toughness to battle through that, and I like how you brought up some guys complained. You can't do that for the rest of you. your career. No. You can't complain one time. That's like kind of a part of this whole thing now. You can't. Nope. No complaining. Not at all. Like that's real. Like you, that's what people are going to say. I don't want to hear shit from Wyndham Clark. I don't want to hear you like,
Starting point is 01:41:13 okay, but I think you've understood that. And I love that you're still winning while doing it. And speaking of winning, there was some special moments, obviously. Go ahead, Connor. Yeah, Windham, especially with the environment and just kind of the whole entire vibe of the crowd, when you end up winning and you come off and your girlfriends there, your friends, you know, there's a clip of you walking off saying, hey, we're drinking tonight, which was awesome. And then, of course, your dad, your dad flying in on Father's Day. How much more special was that moment because of what the environment had been all weekend toward you? Yeah, I mean, my dad hasn't seen me play live in a while,
Starting point is 01:41:52 and especially see me win a tournament in person. And so it was amazing to have him there to win on Father's Day to share that special moment with him and something I'll remember for the rest of my life. You know, I haven't really cried since last year at Oakmont. And it's amazing a year later instead of, you know, tears of, you know, embarrassment. It was tears of joy. And it was awesome to spend it with my dad. Waitam, I have to ask you about another. I talked about 16 earlier and how impressive that was.
Starting point is 01:42:21 What about the Eagle on Saturday? I can't remember what hole it was, but you played the big. It was 16. again, 16 was great for you all week then. You played the big banana perfectly to, I mean, to basically a tap in eagle here. What was your thoughts going to that? And that was during the Saturday conditions that you said were almost impossible. Yeah, well, it was huge because the fans were all kind of leaving.
Starting point is 01:42:44 We were playing so late. There was hardly anyone there. And it was kind of weird. Like, you know, it's Saturday at U.S. Open and I have a lead. And, you know, Scott, he shot a good round. And, you know, you would think there'd be a lot of buzz. It was a little flat. It was weird.
Starting point is 01:42:58 And I hit it in there and people, it was funny as hardly anyone cheered that was in the stands. And I looked and I'm like, oh, I think that's pretty close. And, you know, making that eagle just kind of extended my lead to, I think, seven at that point. And it was, you know, it was one of those things that you had just had so much momentum going for me. And that's one of those shots I'll remember for the rest of my life. It's definitely one of the best three woods in the moment, you know, under the circumstances at that tough golf course. I love that you're making so many life moments happen, you know, just one year after, maybe a moment that you always have to think about, but maybe you've changed drastically from. We're proud of you, buddy. It was so much fun to ride alongside the U.S. Open with you.
Starting point is 01:43:38 Obviously, right after you come on our show, we all bet on you. So thank you for that. We appreciate it. Yeah, I mean, we're very grateful for you, brother. So we're, we can't wait to finish the season alongside you. A, in the caddy world, they get 10% of winnings. I do the same with betting, so I'll send you my Venmo. All right, cut a piece of that trophy, and I want 10% of that, too. Yeah. Well, and if Connor's getting, I would like that as well.
Starting point is 01:44:04 Okay. I'll take 10% as well. I want 10% of his winnings, not the trophy. Okay, so you said, fuck the trophy. I respect that. Well, we're going to have to also win more tournaments because I would like a full trophy. Yeah, true. So we need.
Starting point is 01:44:15 Back to back to the travelers. Then just interview me before every big major, and then we'll just, you know, comprise all the trophies and make a nice, we'll make a Pat McAfee trophy. There you. Okay, so we have you before every single major. It sounds like what I heard.
Starting point is 01:44:28 The open that royal book. Guys, my agent's over here shaking his head, but yeah, sure. See, that's how my brain immediately thought there. I was like, holy shit. He just committed to that. We heard it. Two-time major champion. I want to make you guys a golf show here soon.
Starting point is 01:44:42 I love that. First of all, and I want to let you know, I'm back in the game. I did retire from it for a while, AJ. Everybody, we kind of won through that together. I'm back in the game. I'm back in the game. Coming out of the pocket.
Starting point is 01:44:51 Key was shallow. Yeah. Right in the slot, maybe don't have your head lift, you know. You still kind of want to like watch the ball a little bit. What does this guy know? Hey, listen, this is not how this is going to go. I appreciate you, man. I do genuinely.
Starting point is 01:45:06 Thank you for joining us. Congratulations. And we'll talk to you soon. Awesome. Thanks, guys. Ladies and Jim, it's Wyndham Clark. Yeah. Windham.
Starting point is 01:45:13 What are you perfect your whole life? People that are judging Wyndham Clark. Exactly. I did see a lot of it. Someone had an explanation, not an explanation, but yeah, those things did happen. But also there was a open where Brooksie was up like seven shots on Sunday. And he was a very, very fan favorite at that time. And everyone was rooting against him at that time. Because the fans also who are there on Sunday, they want to see a close golf tournament tournament to it. They don't want to, like, they don't want to see someone guy went by seven.
Starting point is 01:45:37 Yeah, and they're just more vocal in some places than other places. Yeah, and up there on Long Island. Bingo. They're potentially going to be telling people that they're 10 feet from saying, hey, Bob, let's see, make this. thing interesting. And you're with Scotty, who is beloved. Okay, so according to my source says, this was the response that was sent
Starting point is 01:46:00 to Brendan Sorsby from the League. Dear Mr. Sorsby, we are in receipt of your petition for special eligibility dated June 16, 2006. As announced earlier today, the League has elected not to conduct a supplemental draft this year. Under our collective bargaining agreement, the league retains sole discretion to determine whether it is appropriate to conduct a supplemental draft in any given year. The league has not conducted such a draft for several years, and prior to your submission, the league had no plans to do so this year, as no other player has sought entry.
Starting point is 01:46:33 Your petition filed three business days before the deadline without any supporting information or documentation, and only after abandoning your recent litigation efforts to avoid NCAA sanctions, does not provide a basis. for the league to alter those plans. The issues presented by your petition are too significant and too closely tied to the league's core integrity interests to permit meaningful review within the timeline presented. The sole reasons identified in your petition for seeking entry into the supplemental draft are that you have been declared ineligible by the NCAA,
Starting point is 01:47:05 have exhausted all of your avenues to continue in the NCAA and want to now play in the NFL. The petition provides no information regarding the basis for or timing of the NCAA's decision, public sources, however, indicate that in May 2026, the NCAA issued a determination declaring you permanently ineligible from participation in college athletics based on a sustained pattern of improper gambling activity during your collegiate career at three different universities. The league does not have the complete record of the NCAA's investigation and you did not
Starting point is 01:47:34 provide any such materials with your petition. Available information nonetheless indicates that over the course of your collegiate career, you knowingly engaged and repeated in significant violations of NCAA rules, designed to preserve the integrity of athletic competition. Reported conduct includes placing wages on your own team and teammates, and to avoid detection establishing or funding accounts in the names of intermediaries who place the bets on your behalf. There are also reports that you may have violated state criminal law.
Starting point is 01:47:59 Your petition does not address these matters, nor does it demonstrate accountability for your conduct or indicate whether or how you would adhere to the league's rules and policies governing the integrity of competition. Instead, even after receiving notice of the NCAA's decision, rescinding your college eligibility in May, you sought to avoid the consequences of that determination through litigation rather than accepting responsibility for your actions, and you pursued entry into the NFL only after abandoning those efforts. As Commissioner Goodell has emphasized,
Starting point is 01:48:25 participation in the NFL is a privilege that carries with it significant responsibilities, including accountability. By all accounts, you are a talented player with the potential for future success. We encourage you to focus on preparing for possible entry into the NFL through the 27 NFL annual draft. Sincerely, Lawrence P. Farazani, Jr. Wow. Joining us now, how did we get to that point? Ladies and gentlemen, Adam Schaefter. Yeah, Chefty, thank you for joining us from your meal, okay? Obviously, taking some time.
Starting point is 01:48:53 Well, I got to tell you, I got to tell you this. I do want to say this before we get to Brendan Sourgeby. So I have a great friend from college, Robert Grenadzger. And he sent out a letter four months ago. He's turning 60 years old, and he wanted to get together 60 friends for his 60th birthday to have lunch. So we scheduled this lunch, which I'm sitting at right now, eating my split-piece soup, and he's right here. And we're embarking on this really philosophical discussion.
Starting point is 01:49:15 And Brendan Suresby happens to happen during the 60th birthday lunch for Robert Grenadier. Well, here we go. Happy birthday to Robert Grenadier. Okay, we certainly are. We're a birthday, Bob. Hey, Bob. Hey, Ronadier. We're happy for you, buddy.
Starting point is 01:49:29 Hey, everybody. Hey, everybody. Oh, my God, 60. Every birthday. It looks like he's 40. Hey, this guy, he must be drinking olive oil over there. Hey, oh. You got your great skin.
Starting point is 01:49:43 Pat, Pat, we picked this day, June 23rd. All the NFL teams are gone. What could happen on June 23? Nothing. Nothing's going to happen. We're going to have a great lunch. And the next thing you know, here we are doing the Pat Maccabee show and talking about Brendan Suresby.
Starting point is 01:49:56 So let's get to it. The NFL essentially sent him a letter, and the NFL is declining to hold a supplemental draft. And honestly, something was amiss with this all along. because every time you spoke to people around the league about when the supplemental draft would be and whether or not there would be a supplemental draft. I always got pauses and there were never clear some answers. And like, oh, the commissioner has got it to decide to have it. I'm like, what is the issue?
Starting point is 01:50:21 Well, the issue is that the league, despite any gambling partnerships, the league really does not want any part of gambling, no matter how serious it is or isn't. And anybody that has any role with that, anybody who has any accusation, involved with gambling, even though the NCAA said that there were no integrity of the game violations, the league doesn't care. It's the league's supplemental draft, and the league does not want to create a supplemental draft this year for a player who has been accused of gambling. They don't have enough time to vet it. They don't care that they don't have enough time to vet it. It's easier for them to just say, we're not doing this. We don't want to do it. We're not making an exception
Starting point is 01:51:06 for somebody who admitted to bet on games of a school that he was at, even if he was in his dorm room and the team was on the road at the time. And so right now, Brendan Sorsby is shut out. He's ineligible to play in college football. He doesn't have an avenue to the national football league. The next time the lead wants anything to do with him would be in the 2027 NFL draft. Now, I think it said, maybe. Okay, well, I think Brendan Sourgeby is now going to,
Starting point is 01:51:36 challenge this legally. But what option is he going to have? They're not going to have the supplemental draft. It's going to come and go. The league's just going to take the can down the road. And Brendan Sorsby is going to, I think, wind up spending this season, maybe beyond this season, certainly out of football, watching and getting ready for what he hopes would be the 2027 NFL draft.
Starting point is 01:51:58 Okay, Shepter, quick, just 30 seconds here. UFL possibility here for Sorsby? Is this possible, or what do you think about that? You know, Pat, it's a great question, because we haven't seen a player recently in this situation where he's denied entrance to all the league. Like, he could have made a lot of money playing college football. He could have made a lot of money in the NFL. College doesn't want him. The NFL doesn't want him.
Starting point is 01:52:24 Now, the question is, does he want to just train and get ready for his future NFL career? Or does he want, or does he want to go to Canada or the U.F. Or somewhere that deploys his talents and pays him some nominally. fee where he's risking an injury. Yeah. What if you go play and what are these injuries and suffer a significant injury? Is that worth it? I don't know.
Starting point is 01:52:44 There's so much happening in such little time. You're the man. Tell Bob Grenier. We said happy birthday. That's happy chef here. We'll be back tomorrow, yes again. People. We continue digitally. Goodbye.
Starting point is 01:53:01 Okay. Shout to Bob Grenier. AJ, the letter, the note there. that source sent to me. It's like, I think the NFL didn't love just the lack of like, you know. Accountability. Like trying to make it, yeah.
Starting point is 01:53:21 Like the pitch. I think the pitch for the opening of the supplemental draft was very like, hey, you should open this up for me as opposed to like, I did this. I was wrong here. I think this could be a benefit. I think this could be a benefit. Here is what they were saying about it, but here's real. It's like maybe the NFL thinks they didn't take it seriously enough in the application of the supplemental draft.
Starting point is 01:53:40 and they just assumed that it was going to happen because he's a good football player, which he certainly is. And I think the NFL might have felt a little disrespected, maybe, and how this all goes? Is that what you kind of heard there, AJ? Yeah, just from hearing you, you know, talk about that letter that they sent him.
Starting point is 01:53:56 Yeah, like, it felt like they said multiple times, like you failed to provide this information. Like, you said you should be, this should happen, but you failed to show us the studies or show us, like, certain documentation on certain things. It felt like, yeah, they thought that he would, it seems like the NFL feels like, oh, he feels entitled, like, hey, this is going to
Starting point is 01:54:14 happen, you have to let this happen, whatever. But as Shepdy said, now that they made this decision, there's not enough time to do anything. Like, you can litigate, do whatever. It's just going to continue to go on. He's not going to be able to play in college or the NFL next. If I were him, I would not keep this going in litigation.
Starting point is 01:54:30 Like, I would not try to sue the NFL to do the, to have the draft. Because he's an actual good player. Yeah, yeah. Like, just, it's happened before it happened during COVID a lot. Yes, exactly. Train and then go in the 2027 draft. And if you don't get drafted for some reason,
Starting point is 01:54:44 which he absolutely will get drafted, then you can explore. But they said at the end, maybe you get into the 2020. Yeah. And I think that's what's interesting is the language of that wasn't like letting him down easy. That was a pretty emphatic.
Starting point is 01:54:55 Like, hey, fuck you, buddy. Like, we're not making any special circumstances for you. We're not doing that. So we'll see. I mean, I guess, yeah, if you have enough time, you can be remorseful and maybe say like, hey, having thought about it, I made a lot of mistakes.
Starting point is 01:55:09 I shouldn't have done that. But, yeah, it does kind of seem like either him or his representatives thought, like, well, you know, like, I'm kind of owed this. You know, I mean, and even all of us, we were kind of talking about it. Like, yeah, it's the gambling thing is one thing. But it did certainly seem like, hey, this guy could be a top 15 pick in the draft. Like, no matter what, he is probably going, they're probably going to do the supplemental draft for him because the quarterback is a very important position in the league. Can he go back to the Texas Tech? No.
Starting point is 01:55:37 No. Okay, that's completely off the deal. Yeah, I think so. Yeah, because that Big 12 said that they'll do the litigation about. Okay, they did start. I thought that was just like, hey, we're going to get it together. Because he filed for the supplemental. I don't think you can't either. You can't go back.
Starting point is 01:55:52 I don't know. All I know is, I felt like such a, I felt like such a bad, mean person. That's it, not a bad person. I'm a mean person. Whenever we were talking about supplemental drafting, I was like, hey, we actually know like the NFL a little bit. There's some, there's some,
Starting point is 01:56:09 some old, there's some old people that are going to be in there that are going to be like, we ain't fucking having any gambling in our life. Yeah. Like that is, that is a real thing. And I think people forget about that because in theory is always like how people talk about things. Like in theory, this should happen. In theory, this is the right thing that should happen.
Starting point is 01:56:29 In theory, this is what should happen. And in theory, a lot of things should happen. But in reality, you got humans involved in a lot of shit. And humans obviously have different ideas and opinions and egos and everything like that. And sometimes people just wake up in a bad mood. You know, sometimes you're just not 100%. And when humans are making decisions, I think it's hard to just necessarily say
Starting point is 01:56:49 that this is gonna be an absolute. And this one, I wonder who always talked to, you know, like how'd we get to this decision? Because obviously there was an application and I assume they like went through it and we're like, that's it. Like what are we, what about all the other? Yeah, so it sounds like.
Starting point is 01:57:03 We're supposed to call them to get more stuff to answer these questions. This is the break, this is the summer for us. Like this is actually the three weeks where we have off. This is the only time. So we're supposed to dig into what you, okay. So we are supposed to look into your stuff while we're doing it. And then also that easily provides the opportunity for the person to say,
Starting point is 01:57:23 and we're going to let, we're going to be this guy gamble. We're going to, that like. Yeah. And it sounded like it was probably never going to happen, huh? No. This probably was never going to. The supplemental draft was probably never going to happen. They did mention three days.
Starting point is 01:57:37 Bingo. They didn't like the timing. It's like, hey, we're not going to be your saving grace. You could have either decided a long time ago that you were going to do this after it initially was, you know, the ruling came down that you were going to be ineligible or, but like this isn't like, you tried to go back and play college football and then that didn't work out. Like we're not, we're not just here for you because that didn't work out. So, yeah, I mean, that, I was, I was surprised how emphatically they were just like, no, no,
Starting point is 01:58:03 this ain't the way it works. That's crazy time. All right, let's talk about sports that are good. Congratulations to the Oklahoma Sooner. There you go. Hell yeah. The SEC now is won eight straight men's college world series. The Oklahoma Sooners took bat, two, but last night in game three of a best of three series
Starting point is 01:58:22 in the national championship against the University of North Carolina. Now these stats about this Oklahoma team during the regular season during their SEC conference scheduled during SEC tournament time, how they performed, and then how hot they got in the postseason. Start out of rage, and you go super reach you. get to Omaha and the bats got hot and the pitching got great. Congratulations, Oklahoma, changing the story of their season whenever it mattered the most. And now they walk out of there with another Natty. North Carolina was looking to win their first ever.
Starting point is 01:58:50 I believe this is eighth now, I think, for Oklahoma, their eighth national championship as a baseball team. But this year they weren't supposed to win, I don't think, though. This was not the year that they were supposed to go on this run and they do. That's some magic of sport, brother. Yeah, when we were talking to Coach Sabins yesterday of West Virginia, they were, they finished 11th in the SEC. They had a below 500 record. Damn. In the SEC. I mean, their overall record was like
Starting point is 01:59:13 40-something and 20. So, I mean, overall it was great, but as far as the SEC went, they were below 500 and then they got super hot during all the regional. Third title, sorry, not eighth. Jesus. That's on me. Maybe if you combine it with Patty Gasso's championships, maybe it's eight for Oklahoma together. There we go, maybe. Maybe
Starting point is 01:59:29 potentially. But no, they just got hot and they, I mean, all of their games were basically blowouts, except for the one that they lost to UNC to force the game three. It was a hell of a for the sooner. Third National Championship for Oklahoma and baseball, I do apologize. That's on me. I saw a wrong stat there. Eighth SEC straight. Straight. Yeah, so that is certainly something. The ACC ranked second over that span with 18. The SEC has won 64. Mains College World Series games across the last seven tournaments dating 2019. I don't think that's going to change,
Starting point is 01:59:56 too, with NIL. I think the Southern baseball folks are going to stick with their Southern baseball folks. Correct. I think that's only going to continue. And obviously, the weather is very much more conducive to a baseball schedule. J.R. House played football at West Virginia, Hurricane West Virginia, and then he'd fly down to Florida to do baseball for the year. It's like, I think the South has an advantage for baseball because the weather, naturally, but don't look now. West Virginia's developing players better than anybody said Steve Saban's yesterday.
Starting point is 02:00:24 He did say that? He did say that. I would not have a baseball team? Big Ten? What's going on? No, I certainly do. So what is it? SAC, ACC, ACC, Big 12, Big Ten? No, I mean, Big Ten had, you know, UCLA's in the Big Ten, and they were the number one ranked team in the nation all year. You know, USC made it to the Super Region. It really, it's one of those things where college baseball is,
Starting point is 02:00:45 I mean, look who made it to Omaha this year. There's like a bunch of teams who no one really thought they would get there. So you could say that, but it'd be wrong. That's where I, that's where I, you know, Oklahoma was a fucking Big 12 team. Okay, so the SEC can claim them. but I'm retroactively. I'm going to give this national championship to the Big 12. So congratulations.
Starting point is 02:01:06 Thank you so much. I like that. He's our baseball guy. So if he's saying it, that feels real. How's baseball going? That's why I stat with Schino I didn't like. Yeah, I mean, we're in the dog days right now. No, but it was like seven straight games of Schino pitching on the bump we lose.
Starting point is 02:01:23 Yeah, I mean, it's kind of the same old story. Tony could probably tell you better. But the guy's pitching a contact instead of, you know, whatever. But I wasn't going to say that. I was going to say the buck goes don't give this guy any fucking run support, but most hits in the MLB. He's giving up the most hits? No, no, no, no.
Starting point is 02:01:39 The pirates have the most hits in the MLB. Yeah, you know what I don't like about those damn hits? They don't get home. The timing in which of the hits happen are not great. And what are you talking about with throwing a contact as opposed to anything else? There's just some speculation, some numbers out there that the fastball's down about a mile and a half. What? It's a big difference.
Starting point is 02:01:58 You know where that comes in. catching a contact instead of... Why? What do he do in training camp or preseason? All right. What happened? We're not doing that again. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 02:02:09 Buccoes are still over $500, though. We're good. Yeah, we're still running. Who's doing the best from that world baseball classic team? Like, what individual is playing the best run? The Pirates are above $500. The trainers, they're all getting bonuses. All right.
Starting point is 02:02:21 Mason Miller, Mason Miller, maybe? Yeah, Mason Miller. PCA. But it's because they really limited the amount of pitches he could throw. Shorebow, yeah, Shorebo. Chorbo's on fire. We've got freaking 30 bombs already. Price Harbor's not doomed.
Starting point is 02:02:35 See? But they had to fire their coach for them to start playing. Yeah, exactly. Philadelphia, home run derby. Just a couple weeks away. Then the All-Star game. Then the Espies. All right.
Starting point is 02:02:46 Everything is kind of all happening there in a few weeks. We'll be back then. We'll be off for a little bit. Yep. Then we'll be back then. Coming in hot. That week's going to be unbelievable. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:02:55 So fun. Coming in real hot. Isn't the World Cup final that Saturday, too? Yeah. Yeah. So the USA will be there, yeah. So here we go. Olao, lay, oh, lay.
Starting point is 02:03:08 Go, go, go. USA, USA. The cup is on. We're going to celebrate. Here we go. USA, USA. USA. See, I.
Starting point is 02:03:22 From the top. Here we go. USA, USA Go, go, go Go, go USA, USA The night We come to celebrate
Starting point is 02:03:36 So here we go You'll say, you'll say, you'll say You'll say All right I think the U.S. fan should stick to singing songs in the stadium instead of trying to come up with a chance Because we've turned out, I've seen the videos, not real good at The chance is what we just did right here?
Starting point is 02:03:51 We, we, not everyone is talented as we are And on. I got to town. U.S. A. Over. U.S. A.
Starting point is 02:04:04 And then maybe when we have the ball when we're attacking, speed it up like the shark. Yeah. U.S. A. U.S. And then we slow it down
Starting point is 02:04:13 and we take it back. clap. You. As. A. You. You. S.
Starting point is 02:04:23 A. And then all of a sudden, kicking up the U-S-A, U-S.S. Boom, bang, pal. I like that. Each touch, you say another letter. Each touch is a U-S.A as it goes down the call. Oh, I like that. That's a good idea.
Starting point is 02:04:36 You. And they can go fast, probably, when they get close. Yeah, there it is. That's a good idea. At the end, whenever we're up, because they do clap or cheer for, hey, every pass, whenever they're playing keep away at the end of games to basically just kind of ice a game. That is something we should do. What do they do in some of those basketball schools?
Starting point is 02:04:55 places whenever somebody falls out they can't right left right left right right until you sit down yeah mm-hmm you
Starting point is 02:05:07 we don't do the I believe that we will win anymore do we I think that was the old thing I was gonna say I'm glad we shit can that because that was what we fucking sucked at soccer so so I'm glad we've shit can in that one that was Burr-halter ball that guy sucked
Starting point is 02:05:21 he did his boy though his boys boys he's a player we're going to see him on Thursday. See him as a bus can move. Hey, get ready for a Burrhalter goal, probably from a set piece on Thursday, if I had to guess,
Starting point is 02:05:31 against Terkaye. Yeah. Ladies and gentlemen, the PGA is changing everything. Yeah. You can win the regular season and you will be deemed a champion, but you will not be the outright champion
Starting point is 02:05:43 because the outright champion will be decided after the seating of the regular season in a match play tournament style afterwards. You will have matchups. Now, how would they go about doing it? It will just be a one weekend spectacle or maybe it'd be multiple weekends where the first round takes place on Thursday.
Starting point is 02:05:59 Second round maybe takes place on Friday. Then Saturday you get a little bit. Then the next week is semifinals into finals. Maybe it's two days per round. Whatever the case, we know match play is coming to the championship of PGA, and I respect that. They're also doing something with the bottom half of the tour. There's a little bit more of a boost or a push for relegation or promotion in this entire thing. You know, some people automatically mention the corn fairy tour.
Starting point is 02:06:25 Corn Ferry Tour probably doesn't get a lot of push and a lot of stuff like that. I think this will be a little bit different. I think Roll-Lap's coming in with a bunch of new ideas for golf. And for me, match play, playoffs with the top 16, top 32, whatever the hell it is, I can't wait for that. That's a great idea. Yeah, I think that's awesome because I don't know, and maybe Foxy can correct me, but it felt like everyone respects, you know, the regular season title, the regular season champion. I don't think anybody loved when Scotty was starting 12 under and guys were starting 200 to crown your champion. at the end of the season. I guess in that format, it made sense. But having a regular
Starting point is 02:06:59 season champion and then doing a tournament with the top players, I think makes a lot of sense. And then I saw with the two different tours or whatever it is, the champion league and then the other one. Championship series and tour challengers. Tour Challenger series, it's automatically, I believe, 20 guys will have a chance to move up from the Challenger up to the champion and up to 40 guys could be demoted down to the Challenger series. So yeah, I mean, it's incentivized guys to play well, not that they aren't already but yeah roll-ups doing it over there and we've had a couple of precedent of guys coming back from live on what they got to do that's what we need to
Starting point is 02:07:30 do throw all the live to the challenge into the challenge to the challenge of potentially why they even do this is like all right we're about to get a bunch of big names I want to get back cool they can't be in the championship but we can definitely put them in the not the corn fairy what else can we do our challenge or challenge or yeah and now we're going to see the big names definitely on the leaderboard no matter how they're scoring even if a big name has a bad day uh it's still be a big name and a big in the big one yeah that's what matters and you got to earn your way into those
Starting point is 02:07:54 I like that because that gives us all an opportunity. You know, there used to be a show called Big Break. That's right. So good. You get in there, you get a Q school. And then you become a tour member. Now you've got to get on, you got to get on Big Break. You've got to break the glass.
Starting point is 02:08:08 Yep. You got to get a Q school. You've got to get a tour Challenger series. Then you've got to win a couple times toward Challenger. It's tough to become a pro. Very tough. Yeah, they're great. It's going to be easy.
Starting point is 02:08:18 I don't think it's going to be easy for me to get in there, age. I think it's going to take a while. Sounds like the path is much easier now, though. Like, now you can truly see your path. You can do what Blockie did? Yeah, because I guess I can. Goat. Wait until you're 50 and just go to the senior.
Starting point is 02:08:32 I like what he's doing. I think Block is going to win a couple of those, too. Look out now. Granted, that's a lot of good golf happening in that senior tour. Dude, Sank's still playing on the senior tour. Yeah. Well, and I'm also potentially going to win $30 million from place in a senior tour at some point from A. A.J. Hawk.
Starting point is 02:08:45 I hope you're starting to put money into a fund for that one, pal, one way better. Stucink is your leader of the senior tour. Yeah, he's unbelievable. Naturally. Ernie L. So, Texas. Practically, I could be a single A soccer franchise in England. Yes.
Starting point is 02:08:59 And then earn Rexum my way up into the Premier League in golf, in theory. That's what this is. Feels like it. Where would you start, though? You've got to start somewhere. The big break. The big break. Are you not listening?
Starting point is 02:09:13 I watched the golf fix and I'll go to a big break. That show was awesome. I don't know why I got rid of that show. It was great. You can play in a couple Monday qualifiers if you wanted. Yeah, and all I need to do, Foxy, what was it? the guy told me, I need to put him forehead on brick wall. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 02:09:26 Just like this right here. Then whenever I go back, I need to have all the weight on my back foot so that I can go ahead and do one of these. Okay, need to be able to do one of these. And then whenever I fall through, I need to go ahead and take all that weight to the front, keep the head on a brick wall. Obviously, I haven't forgot about that. And then just nice, easy swing through there. And then we're golfing out here.
Starting point is 02:09:43 Boom. You see that, AJ? Yeah, it's that easy. Don't forget about Coca-Cola. Now, Nellicora. That's the other part of it. Great scoffer all the time. says do do all the got to get to poor it i think it exactly that's when you're getting promoting
Starting point is 02:10:01 as opposed to right when you're not thinking yeah did you see you introduced rollout today who was it the big dog tiger he's back maybe i did see that first public appearance everybody talks about congrats to him obviously going through his own journey through life as we have seen him become you know the biggest star on earth and uh greatest golfer of all time and then we've all obviously seen and learned of about a lot of stuff he battles with as a human we hope he's okay happy he wasn't hey how to drive or drive him to that hell yeah hopefully hey fucking needs to happen dude yeah look how cool today was let's keep doing yeah let's keep hey tiger's here look good he did look good look confident and also loves the future of where golf is headed so do we shout to roll out going
Starting point is 02:10:42 over there getting it done uh drew breeze still being a leader down there in new orleans yeah Tyler Shuck, he might have been 45 whenever he was drafted because he was a little bit older down there to the Saints. But I think they liked them immediately. And Kelly Moe is getting an opportunity to run a team. He loves Tyler Shuck as well. Little rookie, though, getting a chance to learn from Drew B's, New Orleans Saints legend. He's helping him set up the offseason workouts with the wide receivers and skill out there in San Diego. You know, Drew is kind of helping us set up our QB slash wide receiver throwing retreat.
Starting point is 02:11:12 We're getting all the guys come down there and just work and bond together. For me, it's just kind of continuing to study the playbook. and then just put my feet, my eyes in right position. That's my whole focus. And then Breeze might be there for a bit, but the main point of the gathering will be the current Saints to hit the ground running as they try to build on a promising close to Shuck's rookie year. Okay, that's pro football talk, Floreo repeating something that was reported somewhere else,
Starting point is 02:11:34 which we appreciate Floreo finding these stories. But this is something about, I appreciate. Like, I guess not everybody knows how to be like a fucking NFL quarterback. Not everybody knows how to be a leader. Not everybody understands, like, hey, in the office, and this is how this works. You run a building, you rent a facility. You do this.
Starting point is 02:11:50 You get them all to come in. You set up dinners. It's kind of everybody's forced to bond, but you also get some work in and also you get a chance to learn about each other. This is how this goes. I like when OGs are doing that to young quarterbacks, especially at that position, AJ Hawk.
Starting point is 02:12:03 Yeah, and I think we can't assume that you just, you're a quarterback. You know exactly how to run all this. Think of all the things that are on your plate if you are a quarterback of an NFL franchise. I mean, there's so many things to think about do. So, yeah, good for Drew Breese reaching out and helping him. And also in that picture, what stands out, Tyler Shuck, he's one big son of a bitch.
Starting point is 02:12:21 Just a monster. I didn't know he was a monster like that either. I mean, that was a Brady Kachuk, Matthew Kachukukuk right there in that. And obviously, we saw Shuck, he could spin it. Oh, yeah. And Kelly Moe's offense, we felt the effects of him leaving Philadelphia. We think they have a chance down there, even though it seems like they've been trying to hit the reset button for a few years and are almost out of that. Shuck could be the guy to lead them down there, like that Drew Brees is helping him become a guy. off the field. Speaking of becoming a guy off the field, due to Raiders YouTube, we're going a chance to see more of Mendoza and Kirk Cousins and even Tom Brady than we ever thought.
Starting point is 02:12:56 Pro football talk, Mike Floreo, talked about the things that we saw on Raiders YouTube. Fernando Mendoza talking to Tom Brady, Tom Brady just telling him, hey, here's the game, kid. This is what your teammates need to see out of you. This is what we, as a Raider, expect, out of you. And from knowing Fernando Mendoza, he will take all of this to his heart, and he will do it 1,050%. I mean, that's what do you do. On the field, he's already talking the right way. He's come on our show and chit-chat about how defenses are puzzles. He's trying to figure out the puzzle.
Starting point is 02:13:23 And in real time, he's trying to do it. He can move, he can run, he can throw. And now he's got Tom Brady teaching him how to be the perfect leader out there. I feel like Mendoza is going to do some good things with the Raiders, A.J. Hawk. Yeah, so do I have. The question is, when does he get inserted into the lineup as the starting quarterback? We all, like, does anyone, I know everyone's kind of torn on what they think. Some people think day one.
Starting point is 02:13:43 Is that where you're at? I was Kirk Cousins. needs to start, let Nando kind of watch. Now I'm at the point of let the boy play. Yeah. Let the boy play. Go ahead and put him out there. Every film, every clip we're seeing from the Raiders, social team and from their YouTube squad.
Starting point is 02:14:01 The ball isn't much of a difference for Fernando. Because I did wonder about the ball, because the way he throws that thing, the college ball was a perfect spiral every single time. We watch his pro day, there was a couple ducks, which I was very, it was very abnormal. I was not used to seeing that. And if you're normally a dart thrower and he start throwing ducks,
Starting point is 02:14:18 I think sometimes your accuracy can be off. So I was worried about potentially an NFL ball with Fernando's hand. He's figured it out. Yeah. Yeah, he's throwing fucking dart. They're showing 8K zoom-ins of how pretty his ball is. It's like that's every single ball that we saw him during college. During the workouts, on the sideline, on the field, in between plays,
Starting point is 02:14:38 and then on the field during plays. Every ball is a dart. He's big, he's strong. I think you play him. I honestly think you play him, but obviously Kirk Cousins is the perfect guy to potentially watch and then fall in behind. Yeah, and they made moves to support him too. Like if Tyler Linderbaum wasn't there and you'd have an all pro center who's calling out all the stuff that maybe he's a little behind, that'd be one thing. Clint Kubiak has already come out and say like, hey, Fernando is as advertised and more.
Starting point is 02:15:04 Like this guy is an absolute wizard. He knows what he's doing. They have a number one target with Brock Bowers. And then you have Ashen Ginty too. So, like, as far as support for a rookie quarterback that they have that. Now, I don't know if maybe they're nervous about his body or something or anything like that. That wouldn't really track from this play on its own. You would think that he has the, you know, body and capability to do it.
Starting point is 02:15:30 And you're not worried about, like, him having to put on weight. I think they said he was 2.30. Like, that is massive for a quarterback. So it does seem like Mendoza should roll out there, you know, day one. But Brady is a guy who started behind. He always talks about how being behind Bletsso helped him a ton in that that process is very proven in the NFL, especially with quarterbacks who are top picks, being able to learn.
Starting point is 02:15:56 So it'll be interesting to see who do they start with? Who are their first four games? Do they play the Texans week one? They got the Finns week one. There you go. Okay, so maybe we dropped Nando out there. Yeah, maybe he rolled out. No, Halfley's great defensive coach.
Starting point is 02:16:08 That would not be somebody that you want to see him with. Maybe. You're right about Tom Brady, understanding the whole bled zone getting a chance to watch and have to prove himself and everything like that i think it's tough kirk cousins would be the right guy just so fernando can see how he runs how he runs as a as a starting quarterback of team what's the team meeting look like what's the night before look like what's the ball selection it happens on Fridays i think in the training like all that stuff getting to watch fernando get to watch a guy do that throughout the regular season and for a couple
Starting point is 02:16:42 games, I think is a huge piece of information. On that note, a huge piece of information is also the first time you get a chance to see a disguise coverage in the NFL. A huge piece of information is the first time you don't account for a guy coming this way and get absolutely slaughtered. It's like, does the baptism also help them? Because we've seen quarterbacks get dropped in there early. And it's like they kind of try to find their way.
Starting point is 02:17:05 So many different right answers. And Kubiak has come out and said, too, like, hey, in a perfect world, the rookie quarterback has a little time to learn, but sometimes they don't need that. Sometimes all they need is reps. So is that the situation for them? Well, there's schedule. Like, you know, they start with the fins and they have the chargers and the Saints, but then in October they have Chiefs, Pat's, Bill's, Rams.
Starting point is 02:17:27 So it's like, it's not like you're waiting for, hey, you know, we'll get him in here and kind of like, do you want to throw him into the fire like that? Do you want cousins to start the first four weeks so he can learn a little bit? And then it's like, okay, hey, we're going to play. Four of the six best teams in the NFL. Fucking go show us what you got, kid. Go win a couple games. Yeah, I'm a believer in Fernando.
Starting point is 02:17:50 I think we all are. I'm also a believer in Will Hard. Big time. Hard not to be. Okay. Also believer in Shuck. Love Shuck. We love Shuck.
Starting point is 02:18:00 But I also like these O.G.'s given game. Will Howard's got Aaron Rogers right now, right? Did last year as well. I think they got along very well. Drew Brees was Shuck. That's crazy. Tom Brady of Fernando. That's crazy.
Starting point is 02:18:09 I'm happy this is happening. Happy this is happening. And I think Rothersberger, Aller, I think there was a meeting of the minds. He's a big Will Howard guy. I don't know. Has he met with All I have no idea. I know he loves Will. All I know is I haven't been asked a thing by any of these young quarterbacks. And I still got the highest passer rating.
Starting point is 02:18:28 That's true. Thanksgiving football history. Yeah. Perfect. He'll reach out. He'll be reaching out. He's young QB. He's one of little ball.
Starting point is 02:18:35 I see Mizoroski down there on sports centers. He's still throwing gas? Yeah. He's dominated. Yep. Yeah, he's very fucking good. Brewers are very good. His Velo hasn't gone down like skis?
Starting point is 02:18:45 No, it's only gone up, actually. He throws so fucking hard. But he didn't play in the world baseball classic. There's a lot of people whose Velo go down as they get older in their career because they're becoming more of like a placement pitcher. Yeah, if that's the case with Schino, we're in trouble. How old is he? He's like 25.
Starting point is 02:19:01 He's just getting better. He's sharpening his knife. He's like 23. No, he's sharpening his knife, right? No, no. Schino ain't fucking Jamie Moyer. He's not Greg Maddox. Skeeno needs to be throwing 100 plus
Starting point is 02:19:12 and Peyton because we've seen it. We know he can do it. I don't need to see Schino throwing 96 mile an hour fastballs. I don't need to see it. Is that what's happening? Kid last night was throwing in that in Omaha. Well, he was 17 years old. He's got a nice pride arm. He hasn't added to his arsenal
Starting point is 02:19:28 as much as small skein's has. He's got the sweeper, the sinker, the stinker. Sounds like you don't need an arsenal though. Miseraowski just throws fastball every time. Well, no. He actually throws a slider that's like 97, 98 miles an hour, too. It's like pretty much fucking unhittable. So that's his poncha? Well, you could say that.
Starting point is 02:19:44 You really don't need like a poncha pitch when you throw like 110 miles an hour because it looks like a fucking grain of rice coming in. So, you know, it's one of those things where... So that's what the problem is with how fast is. You just can't see it. Yeah, or you just, you got to guess. It's like, boy, I hope this is right down the middle. So in theory, very tiny amount of humans going to be able to hit that ball just regardless.
Starting point is 02:20:06 Yeah, and it's one of those things where, I mean, it really hasn't happened this year. but the idea, like, sometimes with those guys is like when they do get hit, they get hit hard because they are throwing so hard. He throws his fastball 65% of the time, which is probably smart. Yeah. Yeah, so that's a guarantee straight.
Starting point is 02:20:22 Fucker ain't gonna be able to get it. Hmm. Be your friend, tell a friend something nice. Over three and a half, just hit. What's the score? Yeah, for nothing. Cristiano had two. Christiano had two, and I don't know if this is,
Starting point is 02:20:33 the own goal thing doesn't make any sense. OG. It doesn't make any sense because the guy kicks it, and then there's just like a thing in front of the net. Yeah, you guys might have to change your shit a little bit for fantasy. Oh, never mind. Yeah, I was completely off there, guy. I had higher hopes for Uzbekistan.
Starting point is 02:20:48 Yeah, me too. All right. They're often coming. They're like U.S. in 2020. I don't like hearing that a team is bad, though, in the World Cup. I thought it was hard to get in the World Cup. Fucking Italy's not even in a World Cup. They lost to Turkey.
Starting point is 02:21:02 Bosnia? Or Bosnia. Who's Turkey? Bosnia. That's not that's not pronounced anymore. Turkai. Turcaya, Turkey A. Cabo Vardo.
Starting point is 02:21:11 Cabo Vardo. D.R. Yolwa. Who's the worst team in the tournament? I put his backy up there. Iraq's pretty trash. Goals don't count. He loves messy, dude.
Starting point is 02:21:25 This whole thing is because he loves messy, but that might be the right answer too, actually. I have a soft spot for Iraq. Really? Yeah, because it looks like they got a white guy named like Dave Jones playing goalie. He might be an Iraq. Yeah, Uzbekistan is the lowest ranked team on the sheet, followed by Saudis and Kurosel. So, yes, it was definitely a messy fan pointing out the stat, but certainly, hey, a guy scored
Starting point is 02:21:49 against the worst team, literally in the World Cup, but on that note, there's a staff for that, too. Congrats on that making the World Cup. That's a beautiful thing. The handwritten note, is that real? Do we know if that was real or not? SportsCenter Twitter, so. Iran players wrote a handwritten note to the people, said thank you for the hospitality in
Starting point is 02:22:06 New York, or in L.A. Obviously, we're in the middle of the time that we're in the world. Obviously, global stuff happening, sports bringing people together. And immediately upon it being released, my first thought was they were thinking, hey, we're going to handwrite this so there's no. Maybe we don't fucking. Don't tell the leadership. That's why we're not.
Starting point is 02:22:25 Report this immediately. That's why we're not texting this thing or writing this down. But I appreciate that soccer in this World Cup in America is introducing a lot of people, I think, to America, as opposed to. are just the headlines of America, you know? I think all countries we should view like that. I forget who said it, but basically the basis of the quote is like, too often we judge groups by their worst
Starting point is 02:22:48 and expect people to look at us by our best intentions or something like that. Rest in peace. I don't think that was Sun Tzu. I don't think it was Sun Tzu. I mean, Sun Tzu's dead. That's crazy. Rest in peace. He would have loved the World Cup. He would be fucking loved it. Who do you root it for?
Starting point is 02:23:09 China. The winner? Tunisia maybe? I think he's rooting for ball, I think. Rest and peace, the Sun Tzu, man. Really did it. It was not Sun Tzu. It was George W.
Starting point is 02:23:18 Who actually had to quote there. It was something along those lines. Can't be fooled again. Yeah, you say, you fool me once. Shame on me. Watch me hit this drive. But I think the quote was something like, too often we judge others by their worst headlines,
Starting point is 02:23:31 and then we judge ourselves or expect others. or expect others to judge us by our best intentions. And it's like, I think that was like a very profound quote, actually. I think what's happening with the World Cup and people getting a chance to see what our country is, see what our people are, and as opposed to just our absolute worst or our absolute loudest or our absolute craziest
Starting point is 02:23:48 or our absolute most ridiculous. It's like people getting a chance to experience each other's cultures, I think is a beautiful thing. Sports is doing that. Now, on that note, we need America to fucking win. Well, that's where it's going to turn the tides is when we win this thing, everyone's going to be fucking pissed again.
Starting point is 02:24:02 And they're going to hate our guts. And then all of a sudden, the bees and Gs aren't as good. Yeah, exactly. Oh, that's how they get their attacks, yeah? That's what I don't say fucking fat? Something like that. And then what about the big cars that they're driving? They say they're feeling like they're flying spaceship here and driving
Starting point is 02:24:18 and the big cars over here in America with air conditioning, obviously through the ash cheeks of everything. What are they going to say on the other side? Don't need all that. They're not going to love it, but that's just the reality that we're living in, and they'll get there soon enough. So are losers. But right now, we're in the middle of the world coming together.
Starting point is 02:24:32 around the World Cup. And we appreciate the hell out of sports doing that. And let's continue to enjoy it all. We're back tomorrow. AJ, great work today, age, really good. Good job, my job, age. AJ, did you get to the bottom of the alien thing? Did you find, who the hell is that?
Starting point is 02:24:46 There's no getting to the bottom of that, you know. But I mean, how many more Tick-Tac videos can you show me? Please. And then freak out that you don't, we don't have anything that moves in that direction, that speed. You believe something's going on. You would just like-
Starting point is 02:25:00 Yeah, of course. But also like, If we do find aliens and they come down and we get to shake their hond, like it doesn't change the word. Like, we can still have everything. It can still all be awesome. It doesn't mean everything you believe in is garbage. I agree.
Starting point is 02:25:16 I agree. Now on that note, if we go shake their hans and it's a good encounter, that's much better. For sure. Much better. Also, release the good files to AJ's point. We're done with the Tic Tac. Show us the bodies. Not only the bodies.
Starting point is 02:25:28 We want to see the actual conversation. Yeah, walk them out on stage. What if there's one of them that actually just can only move like this? What if that's how it actually walks? What if one of the ones that we recognize is an actual alien? Like the person we've always said, that is an alien, actually pops up and says, you got me. I actually was.
Starting point is 02:25:48 What if there's? Like share? There's hybrids. What if there's a big 10-footer? Just a fucking. He just bounces on his head. That's how he walks. He bounces on the top of his head.
Starting point is 02:25:58 And we go like it. Is it his head, though? Hey, man. You all right? What if it's not a set? My face is up here. Speak to my penis, sir. That's how I move.
Starting point is 02:26:09 I got to go this way. So we're kind of yin and y'an? Like a rudder. Yeah. Kind of yin'an. It is his rudder. A joystick. That's how you shake his hand.
Starting point is 02:26:17 We don't know. Yeah. Sign me up. Remember you did say that. If they had a little, you shake their little penis that comes from their hand, we talked about this couple years ago. No, we did not talk about that.
Starting point is 02:26:25 I think my answer was I wouldn't immediately try to create my own one of those, so they would have to shake one of those as well. So I might grab them. like a roller like this immediately and go like that, let's shake, let's do a little tummy sticks. But I would like us to have a good encounter with these things as opposed to a bad encounter. And what I saw from the response of your,
Starting point is 02:26:43 I believe something's going on, but until I come face to face, I don't care, it can't be my identity. I felt like a lot of people agreed with that take. It is like a much different vibe than it was maybe 10 years ago where people were like, if you believe in aliens, you're a psycho or whatever.
Starting point is 02:26:56 Now I think it's a much more natural understanding of a thought like something probably. Yeah, a lot of a lot of things. It's a big area out there. Probably, or down there. The ocean's big things. That would be weird, wouldn't it? A lot of theories about that, but...
Starting point is 02:27:11 I know. That's what I'm saying. James Cameron tried to find it. So there's other people that want in down there. Ocean gate. Yeah. Be a friend tell her friends that happen nice. Might change your life.
Starting point is 02:27:20 We're in this thing together. Bailey said we need a kick. Oh, yeah, that's right. This fucking guy, dude. Who, Bill? Bailey can see the fucking YouTube video. Yeah. What day is this, Bailey, of this four, five, six?
Starting point is 02:27:38 This will be five. Ladies and gentlemen, what I'll be attempting to do with this World Cup ball. Official. A ball that's been through plenty of kickabout here in the Thunderdome. Good bit of kickaboot. Great kickaboot yesterday. Don, don, don't. Does I have a thobbing headache today?
Starting point is 02:27:58 Probably. A lot of Excedrin potentially needed after all the headers that are happening with this official World Cup football. If I'm able to put this football into that hoop right over there, $50,000 in money will be given away to somebody that repost this video and says something nice to somebody. And also puts the easiest way to pay them digitally. They could potentially be chosen as a random winner.
Starting point is 02:28:24 One of $50,000. AJ, what do you think I need to think about this time as opposed to the last couple times that I've attempted this challenge? I think you just need to trust your instincts. You don't need to think about anything. Be like water. Agreed. I'm going to think about thinking about.
Starting point is 02:28:36 not thinking about it. Like your golf swing. Yep. Yep. Come on the block. Here we go. Take another one. That was your worst one yet.
Starting point is 02:28:46 That was terrible advice. Yeah. We did like a drop kick there, didn't you? That's what he's done every time. Oh, okay. Unbelievable. Yeah, yeah. That's bad advice.
Starting point is 02:28:55 Unbelievable. Oh, he's howed it. Unbelievable. This would be the first attempt of the day, obviously. I'll be trying to put this, FIFA official. Football. into that hoop right over there. AJ, any advice for me as I tempt this on
Starting point is 02:29:11 day five of the $50,000 random winners challenge? You know, just trust your instincts. Clear your mind and trust your instincts. You know, you put the hours in. You know, it might be. Don't aim it, just kicking. You're kicking an Adidas ball with
Starting point is 02:29:25 beat one with your right boot. Yep. Good bull. Oh. Oh. Oh, good touch. Yeah. It's good touch.
Starting point is 02:29:35 Good touch, lad. We'll try again in the more. Cheaky fellow, aren't you? It was kind of a cheeky. It was him. Be your friend, tell a friend something nice. Might change of life. We're in this thing together.
