Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello, beautiful people, and welcome to our Humbley Bo, the Draft King's Thunderdome. On just a good sports Wednesday, June 24, 2006, this sports program begins now. Sports! Are the greatest, and last night the NBA drafted what might be one of the most impactful draft classes of all time last night, as Daibanza goes number one overall to Washington, and then Darren Peterson out of Kansas, goes to the Utah Jazz, and then Duke's Cameron Boozer goes three. We'll chit-chat about this, obviously, throughout the entirety of the first hour.
Starting point is 00:00:36 We'll have big perk joining us. He's been on every show chit-chatting about last night. He's obviously batting 1,000 this morning, but I am excited to get former player and pundit's thoughts about why I feel so high about this entire class. I mean, Darius Aikoff Jr. there at 7 at Arkansas, we all, as soon as we saw him play for the first time, what's not act like it was during March Madison in Arkansas,
Starting point is 00:00:56 it's on a little bit of run. SEC play. No, we watched the entire run. We saw him the entire year. We watch him and we immediately go, that's an NBA guy. And then it feels like across the board it was like that. And then the NBA front office and General Manager said,
Starting point is 00:01:08 this draft is pretty deep. This feels like a good draft. It felt like last night was a good celebration of that. Ryan Smith, the owner of the Utah Jazz, will join us in about 10 minutes or so. They make the big decision to draft Darren Peterson, who on the court averaged 20 points a game, is last season.
Starting point is 00:01:22 Has it all, literally. Has obviously been a NBA guy. I probably deemed that since he was probably 9th grade, maybe 10th grade in this entirety. He goes number two overall, has to watch Ty Bonsico, number one overall. And there was a video of him watching
Starting point is 00:01:36 from the fan fest at Utah. I don't know if you guys saw the clips from last night. Oh, yeah. Pretty sweet. Utah had a fan festival for the number two overall pick. First time they've had a top five pick in 100 years. Correct. Whatever it is.
Starting point is 00:01:46 In Utah, Ryan Smith, more specifically in the Smith Entertainment Group, have brought a lot of professional sports in here to Utah. And what we're realizing is, if you build it, they will come. Utah loves their sports teams, loves everything about what they have going on and they'll show up for each other, it appears.
Starting point is 00:02:01 And the fan fest was massive for the number two overall pick for a draft. I mean, you think this is the biggest I've ever seen a watch-along for a draft pick? And Darren Peterson, who potentially was maybe being talked about as a guy that doesn't want to maybe go Utah. Doesn't want to go small, you know,
Starting point is 00:02:16 these types of things do happen, especially whenever you're talking about big-time talent and big-time name. I want to go to a big city, obviously, that is normally the thought. This happened with Ace Bailey with Utah Jazz last year, I believe. and we'll see how he is caught up with it all. And we'll ask Ryan Smith what his thoughts are on. Darren Peterson, draft him number two overall.
Starting point is 00:02:32 That was a huge deal for them. And Utah Jazz, and I think their fans included, think, like, the hard times have kind of maybe ended, and now they're going to go on a run. That's what the draft indicates. So we'll have Ryan Smith. And obviously, World Cup bananas is happening right now. Yeah, that's.
Starting point is 00:02:47 Look around. There's a sock game happening. Six of them happening today. Hey, two at a time. We got these things. Three different time slots. How you doing? Keep them moving.
Starting point is 00:02:56 to Switzerland kicking this entire thing off. And then at some point today, you're going to see an ass beating. At some point today, you're going to see a devastating loss. And at some point today, we think you're going to see a tie. No doubt. Yep. Soccer's been swinging a hot bat. Yep.
Starting point is 00:03:13 Okay, the stars have been scoring all over the place, including Cristiano Ronaldo, who put two in the back of the net. And whenever he was asked about Messi and imbops anything, he said, I won't talk about others. Talk about me right now. CR 7, baby. Six World Cup. Oldest God ever score in a World Cup.
Starting point is 00:03:29 Thank you so much. How are we doing? Let's go ahead and continue this thing. But nonetheless, the stars have all been showing up for us at every single game. Is that right? That's why the World Cup has been so fantastic. Let's go to the Toxic Table at Boss Connor and that Ty Schmidt. The stars have been kind of the wagon that we have latched ourselves upon whenever we're watching this World Cup,
Starting point is 00:03:45 which is why I think the World Cup is seeing numbers that it maybe could have never imagined or fathomed because the names that we know are all doing big-time things. and when we turn on a game, if we know at least one of the names, whether it's from playing FIFA, where, you know, there was a eniesta, you know, you just hear the name, you just kind of understand what it is, you know what's going on. All the stars are showing up for us. Every single one of them thus far has shown up for us in a big way, except for that English guy. Yeah. And I'll tell you what, Erie Kane. Erie Kane? Erie Kane.
Starting point is 00:04:18 Array. Erie. More like Erie K. Score a football. fucking go. I think you got more than that. I think you got a couple in the chamber. Yeah, I do got a couple, but we'll wait. I'm going to, you know, unload those over the next two hours or so. We were hanging on to every single step that this guy took on that bitch yesterday.
Starting point is 00:04:41 I'll tell you what, whenever you're trusting the stars, it's hard not to just follow the stars every single move. We nuked him. We did. Maybe had him in parlays with other guys who held on their end of the bargain. Responsibly. for us. Anyways, six. England and Massachusetts.
Starting point is 00:05:03 So obvious the entire time. He grew up a pad at Boston Stadium. I also don't know if you saw there's allegedly a little witchcraft going on. Yeah, I saw. And shout out to which doctor, witchcraft doctor. Not shot out. Not shout out.
Starting point is 00:05:24 It works. No. Not shout out. No, I'm thinking we should pay attention. We should definitely shout him out. We should be on his good side. Yeah, we need to pay attention. attention to this potential. He'll curse you next.
Starting point is 00:05:33 Bingo, so this is a photo that's circulating, a video circulating the internet. This is during the uncursing of Harry Kane. Yeah, Harry's good now. I want to let you know. He just only cursed Harry Kane against Gannett to not score. Didn't wish for injury, didn't wish for anything like that. And then he uncursed him and said he can score the rest of the thing. So maybe we do listen to the potential witchcraft that's happening in this style of thing.
Starting point is 00:05:54 And we know he's going to score next time. But boy, we can't be putting our emotional stability. stability on this guy again, I don't think. Yesterday was the most intense I've ever kind of felt in a soccer match while watching this guy kind of maybe put something together for us. We had imbop. Had imbop. We had Hollande.
Starting point is 00:06:14 We had Haland. Had Haland. We had Mennardo. We had Rinaldo. We didn't have Rinaldo. No. And then we had Rinaldo. Had Rinaldo.
Starting point is 00:06:22 And then Eric Gain. And you're thinking, you know, Ghana's ranked like 64th in FIFA's, you know, world standings or whatever the hell is. there's no way. And then he gets just, you know, for the first 85 minutes, he basically just, he just fucking sat on the pitch, didn't really look like he was, you know, even wanting to be out there.
Starting point is 00:06:41 I hear I'm thinking, I hear all this stuff about his comment, um, is coming, um, he's coming, um, after how they looked against Croatia. And boy, were they just disinterested from jump yesterday. Erie didn't look like he wanted to be on the pitch. And then he gets an opportunity and what does he do? I mean, fuck me.
Starting point is 00:07:00 takes it out of the stadium. Misses a sita. It was a sit. It wasn't. It was an opposite of santa. But remember, Messi missed a penalty kick. Then he scored two more after that. Okay, but Eric Kane may be getting a little bit too
Starting point is 00:07:12 company. He's got a good can right now. He does. He sucks. Go to baseball. Plain and simple. Take it easy. That guy, that's relaxed.
Starting point is 00:07:20 He sucks. He sucks. He had a bad game saying he sucks. He sucks. He sucks. He sucks. He does not. I think Eric Keynes a late top class finish out,
Starting point is 00:07:29 which used to be. I would like to let everybody know what we watch yesterday in that English game, which we have had to World Cup fever, and I'll tell you, the English game almost turns some people off. It almost broke me. They're saying it better come home. They're saying Ari's teeth grew about two inches yesterday.
Starting point is 00:07:44 Oh, no, he's not long in the tooth. He's doing the first game a week ago. That was my great. Easy go. Easy go. Welcome to American Daily Sports fanhood here, okay? I love Eric Kane, but yesterday was a tough day. This stat is outrageous.
Starting point is 00:07:59 Only one since 1966 has a team reached both marks in a World Cup match when Spain beat Costa Rica 7-0-0 normally. 79% possession, 93% pass completion. I mean, just couldn't finish.
Starting point is 00:08:12 You know who couldn't do it? Erie Kane. Three passes, though. Does Hembo have a stat on how many World Cup winners have won all three group games or no? No, only three times ever. Okay, sweet.
Starting point is 00:08:25 I would have been okay with a one-one draw. Two-two. Yeah, two-two. Hell, it could have been fucking 18 to 18. I just needed Ari Kane to use that right boot. That's why it's so frustrating because, you know, you don't really watch soccer. Like I'm not watching week to week, but then the World Cup comes around and these guys are delivering. So you're winning bet after bet after bet after bet after bet after bet.
Starting point is 00:08:54 And it's like, my God, I'm invincible. I cannot lose. I cannot lose. Cristiano scores too. And I'm thinking, of course. Erie might score eight. Yeah, exactly. Ari is going to dice up these Ghana folks.
Starting point is 00:09:07 And it just, and now today, like, I'm looking, I'm looking. Oh, we got something. We got something for you. But I'm going through the Draft King's app and just, my brain scrambled. Whereas I were seeing it, two days, two days ago, what didn't even think about it? Like that, like that, like that, like that, like that. And they were all coming home. And then now I don't know which way's up.
Starting point is 00:09:27 I really don't. I mean, this has sent me into, oh. We've really fallen into our. World Cup fever. I know. Into a hurricane. We're kind of spiraling, yeah. You will. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:36 It's a hurricane. By the way, Ari. It certainly is. Yeah, I would say that is certainly the case. Hurricane Erie, if you will. But today's the day. We see it. Yep.
Starting point is 00:09:50 Canada, Switzerland. Tie it. Okay. A gentleman's draw, if you will. Yep. That's what I think. Now we've got to root for a draw. No, it's going to soccer.
Starting point is 00:09:58 It's going to do soccer. It's going to do soccer. Yesterday, I think we started tasting soccer a little bit with Ari King. You know, I think we're starting to taste it a little bit. I think Canada's Switzerland. If you were to look at this game, you'd say, what is the best outcome possibly? Draw. You know, Switzerland and Canada, just kind of move along. And they do that. So I think there's a chance it to draw. We boosted it to plus 300. Come join us. Yep. Nice boots in there. The blurt out ones. Those are nice boots. Oh, you're talking about the blurt out 90s. Clean boots? Yeah, I mean,
Starting point is 00:10:27 that's a 50-50 ball, you see. That's what's happening right there. We're kind of in a stalemate, me and Gumpy. So that was kind of a dangerous play. He's towering over you. It's a draw. Yeah, he doesn't have a lot of leverage there. I think I am forcing his leg probably up and back if I had to guess at this point. But at this moment we are currently in a draw. And that is
Starting point is 00:10:44 clear as day right there. That's what we think is going to happen, Canada. Switzerland, obviously couldn't pick that. All the other, there are favorites that we assume are going to win because that is soccer, but also soccer, there's a chance that a zero-zero- game happens. And you're watching in its entirety and you don't understand what just happened. Welcome to World Cup Bonanza.
Starting point is 00:11:00 24 games in the next four days. It's got one half of the hammer, Don. Cowboys AP Tone. Have the sports books been losing because all the stars have been dominating in the World Cup? I assume that they could have never projected
Starting point is 00:11:12 that all the stars and all the big names would be playing this great. Yeah, I would imagine they have lost quite a bit based off of the goal scores and the teams that are winning with those goal scores.
Starting point is 00:11:22 There were a couple draws like yesterday with the England match and others where it was unexpected draws. Belgium has been pretty good to the sports books. so far. The Netherlands opening up with a draw, I believe, was probably not, or probably was good for the sports books. But as a whole, the stars and the teams, the names that you know winning has been bad for the sports books. I would say with the World Cup Bonanza, that's six games
Starting point is 00:11:47 today, six games tomorrow, six games a day after that, and another six games after that. When you're betting these games, make sure you know what these teams are playing for. Like Mexico today, I'm not saying they're not going to win, but Mexico has already won. their group in advance. Czech is still playing to try to go through in advance. So just while you're betting all these today, just like you know with the Switzerland and Canada, if they both draw, they're both through.
Starting point is 00:12:09 That's kind of why we like that bet a little bit. Just know the outcomes and what the teams are playing for today, tomorrow, the next day, and the day after that before you bet it. Yeah, and I like the fact that the reason why they're having two games at a time is to try to at least hold on to a little bit of the allure of not knowing what the other team's going to do. but since we had a couple teams here already qualify,
Starting point is 00:12:31 we understand the answers. And I am intrigued to see how Team USA handles tomorrow night against Turkey. Yep, Turkey, Terkaya. I do appreciate that we're using all like the world's things for everybody. Yeah, we're culture. I feel like we are becoming much more culture. I know about respectful. We all agree we're having for lunch tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:12:53 Yeah, turkey sandwiches. Bingo. Tarkaya sandwiches. That's what we've been. been trying to say. A little provalone and moths on there. Yeah, you're right. Maybe the turkey.
Starting point is 00:13:03 Hey! Nonetheless, we have nothing by respect for the turquay. No, he already said it. I already said it. Folks, but tomorrow night, I think we're going to see a lot of our reserves play. I think we're going to get a lot of minutes out of people
Starting point is 00:13:17 that we still know that maybe we saw in the qualifying into that, whatever the case. And they'll get a chance. We got really good players. It's not like back in the day where we only had four good players, and then literally just to field 11, we're trying to figure out who can
Starting point is 00:13:29 get on the field and not kind of blow it basically is what the idea was. Now it's like it does feel like we maybe have 14, 15 guys that are pretty good. So I think we still have obviously an incredible chance to win this game. We're favored on the sports books. But also I think we're going to see some new names. And there's a chance that somebody ignites a little bit of a sub, maybe become a first one off the bench because five subs going into the elimination rounds, especially if things aren't going great, are a huge deal.
Starting point is 00:13:55 This is one of those games, like a fourth preseason game, where you can earn some time going down the stretch. So if somebody gets splashedy, like Raina obviously already has a splash moment. Let's assume he's going to do some magical things. But you talk about Wea, you talk about... Matti, Burrhalter. Yes, Burrhalter, definitely with a set piece potential. It's like there's some names...
Starting point is 00:14:13 Joe Scali. Sure. Definitely big Scali. But yeah, we have like real... I think we have real studs still, which I think is good news for the state of U.S. soccer. Okay, let's pivot away from World Cup Bananza, which obviously six games today, six games tomorrow, and then the following two days after that as well. So we got a lot of soccer happening.
Starting point is 00:14:30 Hopefully the games will continue to be awesome. Speaking of awesome, last night there was an awesome event where the NBA drafted its next round of rookies into its league. Now, this group of rookies has been heralded as maybe one of the most impactful, maybe the most influential. I'll tell you what, we knew people there are getting drafted 10, 11, 12, 13, even 30 there with Paul-Epeed in this draft. The number two overall pick was obviously highly sought after because is it going to be
Starting point is 00:14:54 Daibanza or will it be a man who had a lot of question marks, but obviously a lot of ability in Darry, in Peterson. Joining us now, the owner of the Utah Jazz and the chair of the Smith Entertainment Group, ladies and gentlemen, Ryan Smith. Yeah. Sweet merch, the UJ is sick, and I assume you have one for Big J as well. That is a great shirt right there. It's a great shirt. Congratulations on last night, Ryan. It felt like a overwhelmingly positive evening for the Utah Jazz and the Utah people. The fan fest clip that
Starting point is 00:15:26 We saw a huge watching Peterson watch the fan fest clip. Awesome. Feels like last night was a smashing success for you. Is this how you guys expected it to go? Yeah, I mean, first, like, I think from the moment that we received the second pick, we knew we were going to get a stud, right? And I think this draft, if you can look back or look forward, you could easily see two or three guys as being.
Starting point is 00:15:52 It's really deep. And we were super fortunate. We were lucky to be in this spot. And we couldn't be more excited. I mean, look at the fans' reaction there with DP. You know, he's a 6-6 guard who, you know, you got to step up and guard. He's going to go around you. And he's a winner.
Starting point is 00:16:13 He makes everyone better. So we're super excited. He's excited. So it's a piece that you just don't get every day. and, you know, we're excited to add him with Keante George in the back court. That's going to be a pretty crazy duo. And then if you look at Lowry Market in, Jaron Jackson Jr., Ace Bailey, Walker Kessler, and a bunch of our other guys, we're going. Yeah, it feels like you, Coach Hardy, obviously Aange's boy have all been in this for the long haul. And it's obviously good whenever owner, manager, and coach are all rowing in the same direction.
Starting point is 00:16:48 feel like you have gotten to this point to add Darren Peterson to this group, obviously spectacular for you. But this wasn't like, no pun intended here, a layup of a pick, or was it? Because of how talented he is. They're seemingly outside looking in, just as we'll call ourselves football idiots that cover sports as a whole. So from a 30,000-foot view, there was some questions about Darren Peterson. Then I'm hearing answers where he's thinking, like, what would Kobe do in this situation? And I'm seeing him watch the video of the fans over there, and he's like, I can't wait to
Starting point is 00:17:18 get out there. So did you have to decipher through what was real? What wasn't? How'd you guys go through that? And inevitably, what do you think you're getting here with Peterson? Yeah, so I think first, we're getting a player with a chip on the shoulder. I think he said that. I mean, he he had been the number one pick for most of the year coming in, kind of unanimous. And then obviously, you know, we're close to AJ there at BYU. And, you know, you've got these two talents. And then, you know, boozer was equally as is kind of sought after as you kind of look through and see where people end up
Starting point is 00:17:52 and so you know I think he he wants to come out and show everyone what he can be and I think these you know how the internet goes right I remember when we were doing that fan poll to name our hockey team you literally said
Starting point is 00:18:08 you know what the internet's like out there you're really going to turn this out there so these narratives go So these narratives go out there. They kind of take a life of their own. But from our standpoint, like what's real and what's not real? I mean, that's the job that we all have today, not only as consumers of media, but also, as you're in these positions in sports, is to say, who's the kid, who's the family, how is this? What's he going to be?
Starting point is 00:18:36 You're kind of leaving no stone unturned. But, you know, from our interactions with Darren, look, he wants to be in Utah. He's a beautiful kid. He's mature. And he's ready for the moment. And, you know, he's got that a little bit of that humble confidence that you see in the eye of a lot of these killers who have come before him. And so that's what we like. But he is 19, right?
Starting point is 00:19:04 And as we've seen with other 19-year-olds we have that have come in, like there's a learning curve. the NBA is real. And our excitement is just like what we can do together. And he's a team player. And, you know, we couldn't be more excited. I think Austin, Danny, Will, our whole crew, Avery, like, we've done a pretty good job. I mean, obviously flew out there last weekend and, you know, came back, super pumped on both sides, I think. Okay.
Starting point is 00:19:31 I'm excited. He averaged 20 points, more than 20 points a game. Still, with all the conversation that was about him last year at Kansas, he averages 20 points a game. And last year, Ace Bailey, or is it two years ago? Yeah, it was last year. Last year, the conversation was like, Ace Bailey doesn't want to go to Utah, doesn't want to go to Utah, then inevitably he ends up in Utah.
Starting point is 00:19:48 How is he doing now? And what have you realized about everything that you've been pitching about Utah to people, which we've gotten to experience? We go up there, we love it. We always moved up there. But not just us. Like, obviously, you know, you picked up an entire hockey team from Phoenix and moved them to Utah.
Starting point is 00:20:04 So you're selling Utah to obviously NBA players having to sell Utah, What do you think has been happening with your teams, your fans, and your players as they've experienced the growth out there? So we have a unique opportunity where it's really Utah and our jersey, right? So like you look out and how many, we're representing an entire state. We're representing the fastest growing state in the country. You know, one of the states with the, you know, highest possibility for economic prosperity. If you move to Utah, your likelihood to exceed or jump a different socioeconomic classes higher than anywhere else. or the youngest state.
Starting point is 00:20:40 So as you can see out there, I mean, we've got a lot of kids. Like, this is how it goes. And so we got, there's a responsibility to go provide a great experience for everyone that comes and kind of where that stewardship to do that in Utah. And that's what it's about for me and my wife. As far as the narratives out there that people don't want to come. I mean, I've got players crying when we trade them, right? People want to be here once they're here.
Starting point is 00:21:09 They see the people. They meet the people. They want to be a part of it. Everything in life's about the people and the people are amazing. And, you know, I think right now in sports or at least with internet, there's a lazy narrative out there. I already know what the narrative is always going to be. They're going to have to hit every market with something.
Starting point is 00:21:26 Which one? What's the narrative? No, it's just the narrative is going to be. Small market. This is what's going on. Like, you know, you can't keep a start. Mormons, there's no alcohol. Yeah, I can't order a double.
Starting point is 00:21:40 Can you spit on the street? I don't even know if you're allowed to snake. Like, that's what people think, though. That's what they think. But you're seeing a narrative in every market. You're seeing it in Toronto with hockey, right? You're seeing it all over. You're seeing it, you know, with NBA stars that they don't win after three years.
Starting point is 00:21:57 It's like, oh, everyone's like, you've got to get them out of there. And we're trying to create a culture where people are like, I don't ever want to leave. I mean, I've got players right now who are coming. to us at the trade deadline this year going, I know this is a business. Do not trade me. I want to be here. Please, I want to be here. Or, you know, unfortunately, it's part of the business where we've had to trade players and they're like, I'll come back in two seconds. And so we're five years into this. You know, Rome wasn't built in a day. But I love every single thing about a market. Danny's bullish on a market. Austin's bully on a market. Our coach is bullish.
Starting point is 00:22:36 And, you know, you get someone like Ace who comes in and he's thriving. I saw him yesterday. He was smiling. He's in the gym. He's working. Keante. Same thing. And so, but also we got to start winning. And that'll, that'll change a lot in hoops. And I think everyone kind of sees in the NBA like, okay, you've got you got OKC, you've got San Antonio, you've got Utah with a roster that looks like that with youth. It's pretty exciting. So I couldn't be more excited about where we're going. I'm proud to represent the market and have a chance to kind of expose it to the world. And, you know, I think we've got a lot to offer. You know, Rome wasn't built in a day, but if you buy a mall, you can build a couple of facilities.
Starting point is 00:23:20 Hey, by the way, that party was at the mall. See that? That's why you have a mall. Yeah, you buy a mall. That's a good idea. Genius. Oh, that's in that parking lot of the mall, smart. You got a lot of space. Yeah, it's a big parking lot. Yeah, you buy a mall, you see.
Starting point is 00:23:34 You also pick up all the parking spots. a long stop. You could have a fan fest. Everybody did you see Dallas? Dallas is moving to a mall. I think I saw that. I read about that. Oh, you feel like you're maybe the mall Trailblazer here. Hey, I'm just saying it was right in front of everybody. It's a lot of space. A lot of space.
Starting point is 00:23:54 We got Nordstrom's over here. That looks like that could be a basketball facility, doesn't it? Three-story? We can even work on throwing it over the thing if you need to. And then guess what? We got a cafeteria. So we already got food, right? Don't we need one of those? Any other businesses? Anybody wants to fake make room? Pulling down here at the fucking Spencer's gift shop down it? Easy. It's a good idea. We love Utah, man. Legit. That's why whenever you said what all the narratives are out there,
Starting point is 00:24:19 the internet's going to say, we knew them because we thought them, and then we go out there and experience it. It's like, wow, this place is gorgeous. Unreal. Okay, you talk about people getting traded, and obviously that's a part of the business. Also, I have a number of two overall pick is a pretty valuable thing. Go ahead, Conman. Yeah, Ryan. You mentioned all the great players, you know, Camboos are also being highly sought after. We talked about Darius Aikoff earlier. He went seventh and it felt like he was a number one overall pick talent. But how many calls did you guys get for that number two pick?
Starting point is 00:24:46 It feels like that would be something you could get a haul for and still get a good player later on in the draft. Were there teams that are pretty aggressive trying to trade up or what was that situation? Yeah, absolutely. I mean, people were offering the farm to try to get in the top three, obviously. You know, and we've been there. I mean, we drafted fifth last year. We drafted ninth and tenth. And, you know, those calls are interesting. People listen and kind of smirk and think, what if. But it's really hard to see that. It was interesting. Almost from the jump, there was almost just no movement. And there wasn't going to be any movement in the top four. I think everyone kind of felt like they would be kind of where they are. Like, you know, you've got a chance to get a generational player that fits in with the team. And, you know, we've done the, hey, we're trading everything for all the picks for the last couple of years. And we've had those picks.
Starting point is 00:25:47 But, you know, it's time to go. So that's kind of how we thought about it. But, you know, whether it's A-Cuff or wherever, I mean, it was a super deep draft. I mean, if you were drafted in 7th, 8th, and 9th, I mean, you were looking at a lot of names and trying to figure out, like, how's this going to go? I think this is going to be one of those drafts going to be super interesting to watch play out. Because if you were to say, hey, you know, there's four all-MBA guys in this draft, like, who are they? Right. It's pretty easy to see they're there somewhere or could be.
Starting point is 00:26:20 Well, good for you guys. It'll be interesting watch. Hey, good for you guys getting the number two overall pick in that particular draft class, right? Because this draft class has been talked about. And obviously, it's the last year of the tanking, which you weren't doing. you were just rebuilding, reloading. Yeah, okay. Got fined for that.
Starting point is 00:26:40 But nonetheless, moving forward, there is a whole new plan. And if your team has ass, ass, ass, ass, you're S-O-L. Okay, I like that you're back. He said, don't even have me on this. I don't want to be on this, actually. Not going to be ass-ass-ass-out.
Starting point is 00:26:55 No, hey, I think it's going to be interesting next year just to see where, I mean, there's going to be the drive. draft and where everyone picks, but I think the lottery is going to be as crazy as anything, because no one knows what's going to happen, who's going to go where, we got like this mini bottom three relegation. I mean, it's going to be wild as, I mean, the draft lottery is going to be made for television to watch because, you know, the impact, like we've got the hockey draft on Friday, right? Of course. And the impact's insane, but you're also looking at,
Starting point is 00:27:27 hey, I've got this goalie that we're drafting. Maybe we'll see them in 2030. Right. Like it's a little different on how that works where you're building out the farm club. You know, the impact of the NBA with these players that these players can come in and just make an impact right away is super unique. I can't wait to watch Peterson Cook out there in Utah. You're the man. Congrats and keep going, brother. Tuss up. Yeah, good luck Friday.
Starting point is 00:27:52 Tuss up, dude. Tuss up. All right. Tuss up, dude. Appreciate you, boys. Ryan Smith, ladies of gentlemen. Yeah, Ryan. Tuss up, dude.
Starting point is 00:28:01 Draft an American. can keep an American here. Tuss up, dude. Tuss up. Speaking of, are you talking about hockey? Yeah. Got it, yeah. We'd like to keep him there.
Starting point is 00:28:11 We don't have to trade later. We're ready to catch. Could have told me that the NHL draft was in two months. And I would have been like, wow, we've got to start preparing for that. He didn't have a clue. But instead, it's two days from now. Friday. Could have told me it already happened.
Starting point is 00:28:23 What? Yeah, because McConnell McKenna. I would have said. Gavin. Yeah. Gavin. The next Connor McDavid. He's a driver.
Starting point is 00:28:32 Sometimes he goes by Connor McCann. Again from Penn State. Yes. Who I like. Me too. Big time. By the way, Will love him whenever he's in the NHL. Yeah, once he gets out of Toronto.
Starting point is 00:28:44 He's getting drafted in Toronto. They got the number of overall pick. Yeah, he's going to the lottery. See, I don't like that. It's a huge problem. It should have been the Bruins pick, but whatever. Well, it should have been the Penn's for sure. No, no, no.
Starting point is 00:28:52 We actually had their pick, but they got to keep the pick because it was in the top five. Oh, so it was like one of those safe picks that the Indiana Pacers didn't have. Except we actually get their pick. in two years now. You guys don't get anything. Yeah, but you don't get McKenna. We don't want McKenna. I think we do, though. We do. If we can get in, we would like to do that.
Starting point is 00:29:10 We got our eyes on the street. Let's get back to NBA and the draft that happened last night because although we didn't maybe pump its tires enough leading up to it, everybody in basketball seemingly said that this is a draft class that's going to be remembered. This is a draft class that's going to, you know, have impact immediately. Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen,
Starting point is 00:29:26 as a man who's all over the coverage and obviously front of the program, former NBA champ, living legend. And ladies and gentlemen, slimmer version. Oh, yeah. Kendrick Perkins. Yeah, Perk! Hey, what's up, Big Perk? What's up?
Starting point is 00:29:39 What's that? I'm seeing you doing more standing things on TV. You know why I think that is? I think we're trying to showcase the bottle a little bit more. Light on your feet. I think we're starting to feel a little bit. I think we're trying, I think we are starting to look in the mirror a little bit and saying, you know what, maybe I do need to stand up a little bit.
Starting point is 00:29:55 Maybe let these hogs kind of dance a little bit. It feels like you've been moving. You look good. Perk, you look good. Well, you know, sometimes like the side view of me standing, I look extra skinny. When I sit down a little bit, you kind of look like bubbled up a little bit, you know what I'm saying? So I want to stretch out. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:30:14 I want to stretch out. I want to feel good. Yeah, but I think you should feel good because you're starting to look in shape. And now you're General Manager at Jacksonville State? Yeah. Is that happening? That's real? Are you still doing TV?
Starting point is 00:30:25 Can you tell me more about this? Because if we lost you from television, I'm very bummed out. excited for them. And if you're full time doing this, I'm excited for hoops as a whole. We'll miss you on television. Well, number one, I'm not going anywhere
Starting point is 00:30:39 when it comes to doing television. Okay. Okay. Hell yeah. Hell yeah. Let me get that clear. Okay. Right?
Starting point is 00:30:48 But I am part of the Jackson State family. Okay. And it's not me being on a paid salary. No, no, no, no. I'm volunteering my services to pour back and give back to the younger generation. This is what this is all about. This is about me giving back. You know, this is something that I'm doing outside of what I love to do at ESPN.
Starting point is 00:31:17 So let's clear that up. But it is something that I'm very proud of to add to my resume. I think overall to my brand, I think it's great not only for me. me, but I think it's great for everybody that I'm associated with. Anytime you can get back and be a, you know, role model to the youth and to the up-and-coming generation, I don't know anybody that can frown upon that. No, I don't think anybody can frown upon it. I'm excited you're spending time of your life giving back to the game. I hope you do well, you know, because we saw Woage do this. Yeah. Yep, but that was a different, that was a different, that's a different role. I'm not
Starting point is 00:31:56 going anywhere. ESPN, I'm full time here. Pat, you know what I'm saying? Like I told, like I told my bosses, our bosses yesterday. The only way I'm leaving ESPN is y'all going to have to kick me out of here. Well, I'm happy to hear that. They might have Jackson State
Starting point is 00:32:12 stinks. Yeah, because what if they suck? What's you mean? Jackson State, what if they suck? That's not in the plane. That's not in the plane. No, I don't think it's in the plan. I said Jacksonville State. I apologize. Jackson State. That's 100% on me.
Starting point is 00:32:28 That's 100% on me. I've been there. Okay, I've been there, having a good time, celebrate the hell out of it. And I would like you to have success as well. So you're not going to do the Woage role, which is full time because I think Woj found out is really hard.
Starting point is 00:32:39 Yeah. I think it is really tough. Look, it's not me being like part of the recruiting process. No, I want to go in. I want to be able to speak not only just to the basketball program, but I want to be able to speak to all athletes,
Starting point is 00:32:55 give them words of encouragement. I'm also going to be part of being a voice in the broadcast and journalists part of it as well, giving them insight, helping them, you know, pursue their career as being in this media space, whether there's podcast and television, whatever it may be. So, you know what I mean? I just want to go spread the love and drop some knowledge, man. I just want to give back to the community. I like that, Per.
Starting point is 00:33:23 Hell yeah, Per. All right, will you drop some knowledge on us, please, about this draft last night? I saw you had a lot of takes this morning, had a lot of passion. I like that you're looking forward to the next generation. They're talking about this class as like maybe a historical class with the amount of people that can play. As it sits right now, obviously Da Bansa, number one, Peterson, two, Boozer all the way through Michael Brown Jr. It's six out there. Now, Tone has a question for you if we were to go back in time and maybe you become GM of NBA team before last year.
Starting point is 00:33:53 Yeah, big perk. Speaking of you being the GM, obviously there was a lot of good players in this draft. They were talking about this draft for a long time. But DeBonson and Peterson were kind of the two that were above everyone else for the majority of it. Do you think it went in the right direction? Would you have gone one to with those guys in that direction? I would have. And look, I believe that Darren Peterson is going to have the best career out of all those guys.
Starting point is 00:34:19 I believe that his ceiling is Kobe Bryant, to be on. with you. AJ DeBouncer, he's going to have a Hall of Fame career. I think for the Wizards, they had to go with AJ DeBouncer. He's, his confidence, and his fit. The Washington Wizards are going to make the playoffs next season. With Trey Young, A.J. DeBouncer, and Anthony Davis leading away. They're going to make the playoffs. They're going to have an Atlanta Hawks, Toronto Raptors type season.
Starting point is 00:34:52 when we look up at the end of the next season, they're going to be a top six seed. That's number one in the Eastern Conference. That's number one. Congrats to that, by the way, because they've been asked, right? They have been at the bottom. They have been the Sacramento Kings of the Eastern Conference. But things are about to change, okay?
Starting point is 00:35:13 The thing's about to change. Now, on the flip side of it, we got to give a lot of, we got to give a lot of props to Memphis. Memphis got them one in Camboozer. I'm here to tell you. They got them one in Camboosa. Camboza in any other draft would have probably been the number one pick. Matter of fact, he said last night, basically I had him on the call and I interviewed him.
Starting point is 00:35:38 He said he basically kind of felt disrespectful in the way that he wasn't considered the number one pick. But this is a perfect match, right? This is a perfect match. This is what the organization of the Memphis Grizzlies, this is what they need. A great character guy that could fucking hook. Let me just put it out there. That could just let that get straight to it.
Starting point is 00:36:05 Like has the IQ, the professionalism. Obviously it runs through his blood because Carlos Buzer was one of those guys, true professional, but also a baller. Cam Buzer is going to have a major, impact not only just on between the lines but his leadership and that's what the Memphis Grizzlies has been missing over the last three or four years a true franchise player that's going to be a leader as well and embrace that franchise and that city and take him to the heights
Starting point is 00:36:40 that they're trying to go not everybody's supposed to be in that role you know not everybody who was born to be placed into that role maybe that'll be the thing that kind of uplift the entire squad down there in Memphis. I remember it was a power-ready commercial, wasn't it? Yeah. That was the last time. It was really the Memphis Grizzly story. Had shoes on the way. Yeah, shoes were right around the corner. And in Memphis, Grizzlies
Starting point is 00:37:01 were the next team. And it was like, wow, I love this guy. He takes off from the foul line, and he dunks on people. And then everything just kind of went sideways. And everybody started burying the city of Memphis. And it's like, wait a second, what Perk's saying sounds like maybe Memphis is back. Maybe Memphis has a chance of becoming another storyline
Starting point is 00:37:17 in the NBA that they were just, what, a years back. I mean, it was literally they were the next ones potentially. Is Jaws still down? Is everything? Yeah, he's still there. But he won't be there. It's time for them to go ahead and depart ways with that relationship as well. You start fresh. Damn it, Cam Boozer is the new face of that franchise. You start fresh. You start in your rebuild mode. You build around him. There's no more Dylan Brooks. is no more Jared Jackson Jr. It's Desmond Bain. It's in Orlando.
Starting point is 00:37:53 It's time for Jaya to go. The problem is that they can't find a place for Jock. Like teams are not on, you know, picking up the phones and saying, hey, man, we're ready to make a deal. Memphis has been trying to trade John Morant since the last trade deadline. They've been trying.
Starting point is 00:38:12 They just hadn't been successful. I don't know how much of this is breaking. new, so please allow me to take this as a day. John Moran as a pacer would be sick. I don't know how much for paying him, but him as a pacer would be awesome. That would be spectacular. I don't know if it fits in there. But I'm intrigued to see
Starting point is 00:38:28 where John Moran goes, because if he becomes like third option, fourth option for a team, he is. It's unbelievable. You know what? If you're the Miami heat, you just got Yonnas? How about you roll a ball and take a gamble? John in Miami would be awesome.
Starting point is 00:38:44 I don't know. That would be Gosh. That'll work. Especially today. Let's go. Buy in. Look, they call Pat Riley to go for a reason. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:38:54 Pat Riley not just in the office of the Miami Heat. Pat Riley keeps his ears to the streets in Miami as well. Nothing goes on around Miami that Pat Riley don't know about. And when you talk about that heat culture, that heat culture is different. The accountability level is different. UD, Udana's Haslam, the cap, he's down there, born and raised from that area. There's nothing that you could do outside of the heat organization, whether you're trying to wigger your toes in the sand,
Starting point is 00:39:29 whether you're trying to go take a walk on the beach and you ankle high in the water. Hey, listen, nothing goes on. Whether it's the club or whatever, they're going to know about it. John Morant needs to change the scenery. John Morant needs structure. That structure could be the Miami Heat with Bam out of the bio and Janice out to Coupo. I don't think he's going to be scoring 83 again, but I do respect the fact that Janice and Bam has two massive giants in the middle. And then add Jaa in there who will also come up.
Starting point is 00:40:02 I mean, that's a potential triple tower in the middle of it. Yeah, you need to take John under his wing if I had. Yeah, UD would be great. Miami would be a lot, but they've had success in the past. And they don't, there's no chocolate chip cookies on his flights. Not anymore. So we know how locked in that is. We know how locked in that entire situation is.
Starting point is 00:40:20 Okay, let's talk about situations in the east, not just the Miami Heat. I don't know how much of that was breaking news or if everybody already knows that in the basketball world. I like everything you just said, though. I like if John Morant's on the move. I like if that's happening. I love John Moran's basketball ability.
Starting point is 00:40:34 Oh, yeah. I like, remember he even did. Entertaining. Yeah, he did this. Remember he couldn't do the shooting for a three anymore, even though that is a shot. Okay? couldn't do anymore, so he actually did a grenade
Starting point is 00:40:46 as an answer. Blew up people. Love it. No, no, didn't. It was... Not actual, but they reacted like... Yeah. Part of it. Yeah, but... It's just time. It's just time.
Starting point is 00:40:59 And I'm a John Moran fan. I just think it's time for a change of scenery. I don't think I know. It's a time for a change of scene. Okay, let's talk about some changes of scenery potentially being forced in the moment, especially coming off of that yonish trade. Let's go to Boston, Connor and Boston. Oh. Yeah, Perk. Quite the situation with the Miami Heat and Boston kind of coming down to the wire.
Starting point is 00:41:19 And then the Bucks get it done with Miami, not Boston. Now the fallout of Jalen Brown in Boston. It feels like Brad Stevens came out. He had a press conference and he basically said like, hey, we had very candid conversations with Jalen Brown. This wasn't like out of nowhere in May after the season they sat down and kind of went back and forth about what was going to transpire. now Jalen Brown's been in China for the past 10, 11 days. So who knows where he's at? But how do you see this going?
Starting point is 00:41:50 Do you think they have to send Jailen Brown out? Do you think it's strictly like Jalen Brown's okay with this because of the conversations he had with Brad Stevens behind closed doors and everybody's reacting like there's going to be some sort of massive fallout? What do you think kind of the next two weeks look for Boston? Do you think he's on the move for sure? Do you think even like a Memphis for John Morant and some other things would be possible? What do you see happening here? Well, Con, I want to ask you what do you see happening? Huh?
Starting point is 00:42:20 What do you see happening? This morning, Pat asked me the same thing. I think it's 60-40. I think 60% he stays. I don't think there's going to be an offer on the table that helps Boston as much. I see your reaction to the left, so I don't know what's your thinking, clearly the opposite. it, but I feel good about Jalen Brown being in Boston. If he feels good about it, but if he doesn't want to be there, then, yeah, I think it's inevitable that he gets moved.
Starting point is 00:42:45 Connor, I got real love for you. You're my friend, but let me ask you something. You too, per. Why should he want to be in Boston? Best chance. Why should he want to be in Boston? Best chance to win a time. No, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:42:59 They've tried to trade Jalen Brown twice over the last three years. And they want to type. And they won a title after the first time they tried to trade him. So it's not like it completely ruined him. No, no, no, no. But this time, to me, there's no coming back from this. Okay. Like, Jalen Brown just had the best season of his career in the regular season.
Starting point is 00:43:20 He finished top five in the MVP conversation. And all of a sudden, his name is thrown in another trade rumor. And if I'm Jalen Brown, I feel disrespected. See, Brad Stevens, let me see it. say this. Brad Stevens dropped the ball. Because number one, if you're going to pursue Yonis out to the coupot and you're going to jump off the porch and make Jalen
Starting point is 00:43:47 Brown available, it's nowhere in hell you should lose that deal to the Miami Heat. You got to get that deal done. Because now you're to this point. Number two, if you don't get, if you do lose the deal and don't get Yonis, what is your backup plan. Your back
Starting point is 00:44:06 up and couldn't say we're going to sit up here and have an uncomfortable conversation.
Starting point is 00:44:11 No, it's past that the trust is broken. This is giving me usher vibes. You got to
Starting point is 00:44:18 send the papers. I need you to sign the divorce papers. It's time for this relationship to end because guess what?
Starting point is 00:44:28 It's not going to be the same come training camp. Jayne Brown is nowhere in hell. Human nature
Starting point is 00:44:34 is not going to allow you to have the same energy, right? And if you're Jason Tatum, do you want to deal with the same energy? If you, any of those guys in the locker room, do you want to walk into training camp dealing with any type of friction or animosity, knowing that they tried to trade them, not knowing what version or what type of attitude you're going to get from Jaylen Brown?
Starting point is 00:45:01 And rightfully so. Jalen Brown should want out. Brad Stevens has to find something to get him to a destination for him. I will call the Clippers. I know the Clippers are under investigation right now, but damn it when it's all said and done,
Starting point is 00:45:19 I will try to see how to get a Coahuah Lennon. You have to do something, something, something. You got to trade them at this point. Everything that Connor was saying to you, he kind of had prepared and ready because I was asking the same questions. Just like it had happened before where it was publicly known
Starting point is 00:45:38 that Jalen Brown was trade bait or it was offered up for a trade and they had success then. Since then, though, he's won a title, he's become an MVP. He's obviously a much different guy. And I said whenever we brought it to LeBron James saying that if they were standing
Starting point is 00:45:50 on the baseline alongside the other grades, he's picking himself and everybody else is picking him too. And then we had Carmelo Anthony on. Carmelo Anthony said, I'm picking myself too. What are we talking about? We're not even doing any of that type of stuff. So I think Jalen Brown now is at a point. where he views himself as, like, Richard Jefferson said yesterday, which was awesome.
Starting point is 00:46:07 I appreciate what Richard Jefferson said. Richard Jefferson said, like, hey, this is Janus. Okay, like, Jalen kind of has to understand that there's only like one Yonis out here. It's a different position, and, you know, hopefully Jalen understands that it's a business. And inevitably, something like this is going to happen. This was to Yonis, who was saying that. But it's like, we understand that in theory that makes sense. But like Jalen Brown, I don't know how he necessarily, you know.
Starting point is 00:46:28 Like, hey, this is for Yonis. He's like, yeah, I'm fucked. We won more. Yeah, like he, like that would be very rightful for him to feel that way, especially with how basketball players I kind of have to feel. But if he was to just buy in and be cool with the Celtics again, that'd be a phenomenal style of leadership if they were able to. Missoula was able to pull that off, which I think, right?
Starting point is 00:46:48 Which, yeah, I mean, they had no business being as good as they did last year, which is in part to Jalen Brown. But again, when you lose in the first round. But that is the other thing, like having Joe Missoula, and acting like Brad Stevens and Jalen Brown don't have a relationship of both coach and player because he drafted him, right? Perk, he was the head coach when Jalen Brown got drafted there was part of his development. So like none of us know what that conversation was behind closed doors, but you would assume since it happened once, maybe the second time he's also okay with it.
Starting point is 00:47:17 But again, I have. Well, I mean, Danny Age is actually the one that drafted Jalen Brown. Danny Age is not there anymore. My thing is, my thing is, and I, you know, Richard Jefferson is my brother. We, we have a podcast together. You know, he gets on my nerves. I get on his nerves, but we got real love for each other. And he's absolutely right. It is Janice. But in Jalen Brown mind, he's saying, I'm Jalen Brown.
Starting point is 00:47:45 We've heard Jalen Brown say he feels like he's the best player in the world. And he should have that type of confidence. So the same way we feel like, hey, this is Janice, one of the most dominant players to ever play the game of basketball, a top five greatest power forward of all time. Jalen Brown is saying, I feel like I'm the best player in the league right now. He feels that way.
Starting point is 00:48:11 And rightfully so, he had a career year. I believe that he's one of the better two-way players in the game. Again, I had him, I voted him top five in my MVP votes. But I just don't see again time and time again because it's a combination of a lot of things, right? It's one that they, yeah, Brad Stevens tried to trade them. But it's another that, you know, Jaylon Brown has been very vocal on his live streams. You know, within 24 hours of, you know, him blowing a 3-1 lead as the leader.
Starting point is 00:48:48 You know, he goes on his live stream and he says, hey, this was the best year of my career. My favorite season of my career. why Jason Tatum's sideline with the Achilles injury. You know what I mean? And I still haven't seen Jason Tatum on the live stream. Pat, that's like me and you trying to fake it. That's like me and you trying to fake it. Y'all want to have a real conversation?
Starting point is 00:49:13 Let's have a real conversation. That's like me and you trying to fake it. Okay. I can't sit up here and say, oh yeah, man, Pat McAfee, that's my boy. And you can't sit up here and say, Perk is my guy. And you never see me on your show? Fascinating, especially if you're in the same locker room, same team, obviously been around each other for a long time.
Starting point is 00:49:33 Obviously, you would think the other would want the other to have success to in their stream nonetheless, but maybe Tatum is just like the most, I don't want to do anything guy, and maybe Brown goes the opposite direction. But yes, at some point you would think they would do something together. And the comments about it being his favorite year, piss Connor off. I mean, Connor- Piss everybody else. And when you were talking about the live stream right there, I don't know if you heard, honor in the middle of you speaking goes I'm about sick of that and then you go
Starting point is 00:50:02 everybody would like to see those stopped that's real that is how Celtics fans feel it just gets so loud like and that is the other thing where it's like he is so good too but that's the other part of Janus that was so appealing like you don't see anything from Janus outside of Shams
Starting point is 00:50:17 just him and Shams battle just him and Shams battling and that's why like Perk you just said all of it like he might be a top five greatest power for it of all time like are you putting Jalen Brown in the top 10 of two-way players all time right now. That's why it feels like, hey, if you have any sort of brain, you would understand. And that's why maybe that Brad Stevens' conversation that none of us are privy to was
Starting point is 00:50:41 along those lines. All right. Well, good luck. And I hope I'm wrong, but I'm just saying human nature and the prideful individual that Jaylon Brown is, at some point, enough is enough. Yeah. Enough is enough. Send him to the Kings.
Starting point is 00:50:59 We'll take eight cuff and some bonus. Okay, you want eight cuff immediately. Yeah. Give us the number seven overall pick. You go ahead and send that our way. You get this guy who's the top five player in the league. You heard it. Perk voted for him.
Starting point is 00:51:09 He has a vote. People get pissed off whenever he publicly talks about his votes. But hey, that's part of having votes. I think tone understands that from the NFL standpoint. Speaking of, you know, having a vote, there's a man that had a lot of power of Michigan, won a national championship, and all of a sudden out of nowhere seemingly, boom, he's gone. He's the Mavericks head coach.
Starting point is 00:51:27 He had quite a night last night. Go ahead, Ty. Yeah, Perk that one. was pretty startling to all the sudden see Dusty May sitting there with the Mavericks contingent while still getting really jacked up when all of his players from Michigan were drafted. Were you surprised by that whole situation? And ultimately, how do you think that's going to work out? Because obviously over the last several years, the coaches jumping from college to the NBA
Starting point is 00:51:50 haven't fared very well. Obviously, Billy Donovan's been okay, but it's not like he, you know, you don't still consider him one of the upper, you know, upper-eastern. echelon coaches in the NBA. So how do you think Dusty May going to the Mavericks is ultimately going to work out? I actually love it. I actually love it. You know, I'm one of those guys that, in special when it comes to the NBA,
Starting point is 00:52:17 I get tired of seeing guys rotate organizations rotate suits. It's time to get new bloods in the locker rooms that's leading the charge. I'm actually excited about Coach May going to the Dallas Mavericks. He's going to bring new life. Listen, when you win a college championship, you got to have some type of relationship with these new players of this generation. You got to be able to have a certain type of personality, along with knowing the game and the X's and O's,
Starting point is 00:52:53 in order to bring out the best in players. Because this is a new generation. So think about it. Mike Brown, we've been seeing his personality all throughout these interviews. I understand he's 55, 56 years old, but he has like a, seem like a 35-year-old heart. Young spirit, right? Young spirit. He has a young spirit.
Starting point is 00:53:17 I actually like that, Pat. And then when you look at Ms. Johnson, 39 years old, you know how hard it is to get young guys to buy it to being stars in their road for the better, for the, for the, for the, uh, for the best of the team. That's hard. Mark Dagnall for the Oklahoma City Thunder. I believe he's 40-41. My point is saying is get new energy in these seats. Guys have to be able to relate to this new generation of players.
Starting point is 00:53:49 I actually love the hire. I love the draft picks that the mass made. Like all across the board. So again, I'm excited to see what he's going. going to do. I'm excited to see his relationship with a Cooper flag next year. I think they're going to be great. I think they're going to be athletic.
Starting point is 00:54:08 I think they're going to make some noise in the Western Conference. Again, the next person I'm looking to get an opportunity is my boy Ray John Rondo. He almost came up and got the Pelicans job. But I feel like he needs an opportunity as well.
Starting point is 00:54:23 Look how great J.J. Redick is doing over there with the Los Angeles Lakers. And Rondo's kid. Look how great Rondo's kids do. I think he's a pretty good coach. He's got an eighth grader playing in varsity. And he's a grand triple double or whatever.
Starting point is 00:54:37 Hopefully Rondo will get the gig. I like the new blood in there. Kyrie Irving, is he not on the Mavericks? Next year, is he on the Mavericks? He is. But I don't expect him to be on the Mavericks come trade deadline. I expect somebody to go out there and pursue Kyrie.
Starting point is 00:54:54 I expect the Minnesota or Detroit Pistons to get aggressive. Minnesota has no choice. Look, they're going to rock with Jay McDaniels and Nas Reed, and I'm a fan of both of those guys. But if you're trying to move the needle, if you want to make up for having arguably the worst trade in NBA history by trading away Carl Anthony Towns,
Starting point is 00:55:23 if you want to stop the bleeding, meaning former number one picks leaving your organization and going winning championships elsewhere. Towns, Kevin Garnett, Andrew Wiggins, top a lottery pick and Kevin Love. You want to make sure you keep Anthony Edwards. You're going to have to bring some more firepower
Starting point is 00:55:45 into that organization in order to compete with the Spurs in Oklahoma City Thunder. I think Connor's saying Jalen Brown there. Yeah, isn't that one of the teams they think Jalen Brown, maybe even Derek White would be moved to, would be Minnesota for some of those guys you just mentioned? But it is a thing
Starting point is 00:56:01 I strongly believe Minnesota has so much belief that I think Jayden McDaniels is untouchable at this point. Real talk. That's how much belief the organization has
Starting point is 00:56:17 in Jay McDaniels. And in order to get Jaylen Brown, they would have to give up Jay McDaniels. And Anthony L. was, I don't, that's that's not go ahead. Yeah, well, unless the Pacers want to get involved
Starting point is 00:56:29 you, get anything Edwards? Sure. No, they already screwed up so he can't make any more. Yeah, but the pick, we'll do the pick, we'll do it all.
Starting point is 00:56:35 We appreciate the fact that the NBA is still cooking and I don't know how much news you broke there or just informed me up. There's a lot of shit happening in the NBA. Sounds like it's cooking.
Starting point is 00:56:43 Anytime we're cooking, we're in the kitchen with who? Patrick Parkins. We appreciate you. We definitely go whip it up. That happy. It seems like you did there. We'll see you.
Starting point is 00:56:53 All right. Next hour, we got Grella. We got Bryce Terang. Star, can't wait for it. Be a friend, tell it something nice. Might change your life. This episode is brought to you by Activia.

Starting point is 00:57:50 soccer games these are all the third games of all the rounds happening two at a time six in total each day and we'll be seeing magic all over the pitch all over north America now These eyes have obviously seen every team play two times. I've watched every minute of every game. Yep. These eyes. These eyes have seen a team from the United States that are certainly excitable. These eyes have seen a team for the United States that are certainly powerful.
Starting point is 00:58:16 These eyes have seen a team for the United States that might just be the most talented bunch in the entire tournament. There's a chance of United States of America wins the World Cup right here in the United States of America. And I'll tell you what. The future of world sport is going to be a lot different if we're in charge. Yeah, it is. Calling it soccer. Yeah, immediately. Everywhere.
Starting point is 00:58:37 First law as World Cup champs. It's soccer. Aren't you guys coming around on football a little bit, though? Not calling it football, but like football. Yeah. Yeah, because we have kind of started falling into the footy, kind of chatter. Exactly. Because it is kind of cheeky whether they're doing with it.
Starting point is 00:58:56 Exactly. But all of a sudden, we're now going to make that our own. And just like what we did with hockey. Sure. You know, we kind of take that and make that our own. I think we did it with, I guess, basketball, too, from my understanding. Took that from Canada as well. I think that's horseshit, but sure.
Starting point is 00:59:12 They said naysmiths to Canadian, and I'll tell you that was crazy. That's good news for today, though, because speaking of soccer. That's where he invented the game of basketball, I thought. So he was breathing American air whenever he did it? He may be a Canadian lad, but on American soil. He had his toes, 10 toes deep in American soil. Yeah, but they would say that the blood, it was. was running through the man that did that was Canadian.
Starting point is 00:59:33 Is that what there was a... No, he had a transfusion, I believe, that year. Yeah, he took it all out. Put it all back in as American. Yeah. Kind of baptized the blood. Exactly. Talks at the table at Boston.
Starting point is 00:59:43 Had Thai Schmidt, one half of the hammer. God. Cowboys AP tone on top of it for all you. We're thankful that we get to be the ones that do this for everybody that watches us to trust us to talk about sport. Just know this, the World Cup's been delivering. Soccer's been fantastic. And the stars have been showing up and showing out.
Starting point is 00:59:59 Just yesterday, Christiana Ronaldo gets on the board. He puts two in the back of the net in a five-nothing win for Portugal. If you do recall, Christiano Ronaldo was the only star in the first batch of games not to get on the board, actually. Everybody's calling him old in the tooth, which he certainly is. He's the oldest player in the World Cup. And yesterday, he notched two goals and obviously showed us showcase Ronaldo. Now, Andres Cantor, who's commentator for Telemundo, who is of Argentinian descent,
Starting point is 01:00:26 but he's a voice of soccer for a lot of people. he said, Cristiano Ronaldo, hell of a player. Portugal, good team. But how do you judge quarterbacks that never won a Super Bowl? So you just tell me, basically, is what he said. Is the pressure on Christiana Ronaldo
Starting point is 01:00:40 to win a World Cup with Portugal at this stage of his career? Is Christiana Ronaldo going to put the team on his back as he stands here like this and looks super cool? And take Portugal all the way to a World Cup gold medal cup thing? Yeah. The answer is yes. I hope not because that means America would lose. and I take America every time.
Starting point is 01:01:02 That's a good point. I'll tell you what. You know what else I've experienced? Everybody in America, messy people. See, we talked about this a little bit ago, too. When I was in high school, I was a diehard CR7 guy. So much. And I don't know what happened at some. Maybe, you know, by osmosis, some of it has to do with
Starting point is 01:01:23 Lou Messy is an American. Now he plays in the MLS. He's in our back. backyard. But I don't know when that change happened. I really don't, but it has happened. He sells out our stadiums all the time. I think that is why America has been like, you know what, actually, a little guy. I like this blue guy. One shows Miami, one chose Saudi. That's kind of how it happened. Yeah, Chris Yow was kind of done it to himself. One of the things I feel like I've learned during the World Cup is you don't put out on a guy who's got a witch curse on him. And Chris Yaronado, kind of selfish. That's just how it feels from the outside. Really? Really? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:58 He's a pure striker. That's how they are. Messy's just different gravy. He does everything the right way. He scores. He goes, I'm good, walks it off. There's just no bullshit. He just does his thing.
Starting point is 01:02:09 He's all the ball all the time. He's different gravy, you said? Different gravy, yeah. Top drawer, top in. Cristiano and he's sharing his gravy. A lot of people are saying it's, no, I'm not going to do that. Joining us now, thank God. Good for you, dude.
Starting point is 01:02:21 Look at us. We did not need to have that conversation. Thank God. I'm very happy about that. Joining us now, soccer expert, four-time. Intermiral Soccer champ at the Ohio State University. Wow. Where he was a college football national champion, a Super Bowl champion,
Starting point is 01:02:36 and a Rotter Cup winner, ladies and gentlemen, A.J. Hawk is here. And a baby, oh. Congratulations on the intermural gold medals. We appreciate the fact you played goalie and striker at the same time. You're all over the pitch. We appreciate that. Soccer fever is certainly taken over, and Ari Cain broke our hearts yesterday, AJ Hawk.
Starting point is 01:02:52 Yeah, he did. I know Conman is really still battling back from that, but I need to get back. So Canada Switch, we are rooting for a draw. That is what we're doing. We want to draw. Ooi. OI.
Starting point is 01:03:04 We want to draw. Ooy. Ory. That's what I'm looking for. If you're 21 plus and are willing to pledge that you will gamble responsibly and not like an asshole. Pledge. Pledge that you will gamble responsibly.
Starting point is 01:03:23 I pledge. Thank you for doing that. To the crown. of the draft kings of America and to the bets for which they stand one sports book under responsibly under God
Starting point is 01:03:38 with responsibility and liberty for all and justice amen well done okay join us Canada Switzerland draw every other game seems to have a pretty heavy favorite every other game has seemingly a pretty heavy favorite and
Starting point is 01:03:54 you know yesterday star studded before that star study, you know, this one, maybe not as many big names that are potentially playing, but Canada, Switzerland, feels like it could be a draw. So soccer has to soccer at some point, and we assume that's going to happen. Harry Kane introduced us to soccer again a little bit yesterday, heartbreaking situations where he misses goals.
Starting point is 01:04:13 Joining us now as a man who's been walking us through this entire World Cup, which we appreciate him for. And we got information yesterday from the men's national team camp that they did hear this man stirring up some shit with an entire continent. Ladies and gentlemen from CBS Sports Galazo coverage of soccer, international soccer star Michael Corrella. Yeah, Corolla! What's up, boys? Happy to be here. Good to see you, boys. What's going on?
Starting point is 01:04:39 Hey, soccer's still doing it. Everybody's delivering. Even Ronaldo yesterday, Eric King, no, can't notch one on the board. What do we need to think about this English team? What do we need to think about the teams at the top? And is it realistic at this stage for me to actually believe that America is one of the better performing teams of this entire term? after I feel like I've watched everybody now a couple different times. Where's Gumpie? Where's Gumpfino? What's up, Greller? What kind of bullshit was that from England yesterday, by the way? We always tie the second game of a major tournament. Everybody knows that, Greller.
Starting point is 01:05:09 No, we don't. I didn't know that. Neither did it. Nobody knew that. We've never... All of you were sitting there. No. No. No. Nobody listens. It's fine. Maybe the 87th minute.
Starting point is 01:05:20 Nobody listens. It's fine. Yeah, this is not what happened. We were sold a bill of goods, which was Eric Kane will get the job done. You know what I'm seeing out of Eric Kane? Nice tan. Yeah. It's the best tan this guy's ever had. I'm seeing him sitting in sweets at baseball games.
Starting point is 01:05:38 He's out there taking a piss, not worrying about what's going on on the pitch. Exactly. Is that Ella Langley? Yeah. Isn't Ella fella? Who isn't? But yes. It's true.
Starting point is 01:05:48 We all are. They kicked him out, actually. I think he's maybe getting a little bit too comfortable over here in the United States of America. Go home, Harry. But he could have been. Or come playing the MLS. He could have been potentially cursed. Yeah, stay here, Harry.
Starting point is 01:05:59 Life pretty good here. Come play for the Columbus crew. But other than Harry getting cursed, it feels like all the stars are playing well. Is this standard operating procedure? Is this how we should view this? Should we understand that the big names are going to perform well every time they're seemingly on the field?
Starting point is 01:06:14 Yeah, you know, I said yesterday on our coverage, Troy Deany, who played in the Premier League. I work with him here at CBS Sports Goal. So he came over the other day in the backyard and looked amazing against my kids. I think he scored three or four holes. It looked great. It looked like he was going to make a comeback.
Starting point is 01:06:30 And that's sort of what the first rounds are. It's like they're playing against, with all due respect, Iraq, Uzbekistan. I get it. I love the storyline. It's awesome. Don't be smart. You started war with Australia.
Starting point is 01:06:42 I don't know if we need to be. At the moment, if I say the sky's blue, I'm getting in, I'm getting heat for it. So listen, it doesn't matter. But I'll say this too. It's like the goalkeeper. This is a storyline, the goalkeeper of Cabo Verde. He had, I don't know, a few thousand followers, like 20,000 or something. And then he kept a clean sheet against Spain.
Starting point is 01:07:04 And now he's got millions of followers, like something like 14 million followers. So I'm like, oh, that's pretty cool. Like, great story. Like, warms the heart. I watched him play the other day. Couldn't catch the football. Hey, the ball was going through his hands and he's knocking it into the polls. So it's like, I get it.
Starting point is 01:07:20 But now it's like the advertisers is over. I'm ready for the knockout stage. I want to see the big boys. I want to see some real matchups. Rinaldo scored against Uzbekistan yesterday. There's a point in the game. I got a little heat for a Rinaldo take yesterday, too. So I might as well stay there while I'm there.
Starting point is 01:07:34 Rinaldo, Pat, you know this because you played the game at a high level. Ronaldo and the second goal, right, Mendez scores the second goal from a free kick, which is a great free kick. The goalkeeper doesn't get it. It's against his Bekistan fine. Ronaldo goes to the crowd and goes to his teammates and starts going like this and starts going, you know, thought I was going to shoot it.
Starting point is 01:07:54 It was his idea. And I tricked you. And I'm a big part of why he was able to score the second goal against Uzbekistan. Yeah. So it's like, I get it. He wants to score goals. He wants to be part of it.
Starting point is 01:08:05 He wants to win. He's a serial winner for sure. But he doesn't have that sort of style factor that Messi has and some of these other guys. So we'll see. He's 41 years old. You've got to take it with a grain of salt. We'll see as the tournament progresses.
Starting point is 01:08:21 is I think Portugal has a better team than Argentina, but I think the fact that Argentina has Messi makes them a higher-up in the books, a higher-up favorites in the tournament. So we'll see as the tournament goes on. Still waiting for these big matchups, though. Okay, so game threes are happening right now. Match day three, yeah.
Starting point is 01:08:36 Yeah, match day three. There's six games today, and then obviously 24 over the next four days, so you can do the math on how many per day, the same, obviously. But you're saying that a lot of these teams are asked, well, then how come Italy didn't get it? I thought it was hard to get into the World Cup. How do we got shite teams?
Starting point is 01:08:55 Mega ass. Mega ass, he's saying. You scored against Uzbekistan. So how do they get into the World Cup then? Italy didn't even get into the World Cup. How do these, is this like the college football playoff or James Madison? Yeah. No offense, James Madison.
Starting point is 01:09:08 Tulane. How is this happening? How do we? I thought we had the best teams in this tournament as a whole. Every qualifying continent is different, right? So the European one is obviously it's going to be the most. difficult one because it's where football is played at the highest level. And so they got drawn to a group, Italy got drawn to a group with Norway. Obviously, Big Holland, who plays for
Starting point is 01:09:29 Manchester City, their goal difference was like plus 32. They beat Italy in an aggregate like seven to one or something like that. So they smoked them. Italy then had to go through the playoffs. They beat Northern Ireland. Then they had to go and play Bosnia away in Bosnia, a difficult game. They lost in penalties. So it's very possible in the European one that you don't get through. Brazil to give you, like, perspective, you know, one of the greatest. teams in the history of the World Cup. They have the only team in the world with five World Cups. They had five losses in the qualifying campaign and still were able to make it through. You know, in European qualifying campaign, you could have one loss and that might be enough
Starting point is 01:10:01 to end your hopes at a World Cup. So listen, Italy's got their own problems. They definitely got to figure it out. But, but yeah, it's very possible that you don't make it. I mean, the U.S. not long ago, a few years back didn't qualify either, right? There's a long, long ago. Those days are long, long ago. It's hard to get in. It's hard to get in. It's hard to That's all I'm saying. It sounds like it. For some people it is, but for other people, they just kind of get in there. Some people are saying it's Feefugezi.
Starting point is 01:10:25 Not guitar making. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. And these other teams that are being at the end of punchlines from Grella for starting wars with entire countries. You scored against Uzbekistan? That's what he said, basically. And it's like, well, Italy's sitting at home and Uzbek stands in a dance. I'd like to see that made put up a little bit of a fight. I can't wait to see the knockout rounds and the loss and go home stages, mostly because America has a real chance to win.
Starting point is 01:10:49 Go ahead, AJ. Yeah, Groer, are you trying to say that some of these teams may be phoned into a false sense of security? They may think they are better than they are because the opponents, they are beating these first couple rounds. Like a team like Uzbekistan, do they have professional soccer players on their squad? I'm sorry for the ignorant question. Are these guys playing? Like, where are they playing throughout the world? No, it's a great question, to be honest.
Starting point is 01:11:11 And some of these teams, most of the teams do have professional footballers, but not most that are like household names or that you would know. and some of them are probably semi-pro as well for some of these teams, right, like Jordan or whoever. So it's a difficult one. They've got good teams. Like the coach of Uzbekistan is Kanavado, who's won the World Cup back in 2006, the Italian, and won the gold bowl that year as well. So it's just, you know, France played Iraq a couple days ago. I swear to you, they didn't get out, they didn't sweat. They didn't get out of first year.
Starting point is 01:11:43 They just literally cruised through the match. So I don't know if people like the new format or don't like the new format, but there is a lot of teams. There's probably like 15 teams that don't really belong there. They've gone there for like purely a participation award and the storylines and everything else. So we're starting to move now towards the bigger rounds and the more exciting rounds. And I saw you guys had Tyler Adams on the other day, by the way. So he was an ex-roomate of mine, ex-teamate of mine. And I got a, he's a great kid.
Starting point is 01:12:12 But why can't, like I said yesterday, why can't the U.S.? That's what I'm talking about. Do something. Now we go. Like, everyone's like, yeah, but it's not possible. No, but I think it is possible because their bracket is actually really favorable. Their route to the semifinal. And then you've got two games that you've got to win.
Starting point is 01:12:30 And they're actually better without the ball than they are with the ball. So if they're playing a better team that's going to have a lot of possession and they go hunt that thing, they have to do it a little more balance, obviously. But if they go hunt that thing, win the ball high up the field and then go one, two passes and try to create something, you never know. So we'll see. But Tyler Adams, I love him. He's a great guy. I mean, when I first met him, Pat, he was 15 years old.
Starting point is 01:12:52 Jesse Marsh, who's the coach of Canada now, brought him in. I'm 12 or 13 years old to him, and I looked at him. I just thought, like, who's this guy? Like, where's he going? He was 15, scrawny. And Jesse goes, oh, he's going to train with us this week. He's a good kid, you know, whatever. So we had a couple bullies in the locker room, a couple leadership guys.
Starting point is 01:13:11 And one of them in particular, I won't name him. he's like always on his ass, always on Tyler's ass, always bullying him. Hey, your hair cuts this, you're this, you're that. So one day after a video meeting, Tyler kicked his ass. It's like 15, 16 years old, and he kicked his ass and put him in a chokehole. And then I was like, whoa, I was like, this kid's got something about him, like, stand up to like one of the main guys in the team. And then actually physically kick his ass. I was like, wow, I was like, this kid's going to be legit.
Starting point is 01:13:37 And obviously he is very legit. I'm a big fan of Tyler. And I hope he can lead this team to something special. I really think they can. I love that he beat somebody's ass as a 15-year-old. It wasn't Tony Miola. It was not Tony Miola. It was not Jeff.
Starting point is 01:13:52 Tony's across the hall. Tony's across the hall, by the way, and he is an absolute bear. You're not beating Tony Mielo. No one is. Father Time tried. Try to get him early. Tierra Missou. And Tony Miola said, I don't think so, pal.
Starting point is 01:14:07 Miola legend. He's alive and well, man. He's one of the best guys in the world. He's alive and well. He's across the hallway right now. Actually, but you go back to the 94 World Cup or whatever the case is. It's like Tony Miola became one of the stars of United States of America and global power. You know, that is what soccer does.
Starting point is 01:14:21 Everybody's more interested around the globe. And America becoming great at is great news for us. Now there's obviously a powerhouse playing today. Go ahead, con man. You're wiping tears off the case. I'm sorry. Just the entire vision of it. But yeah, Grella, Scotland, the Tottenami.
Starting point is 01:14:38 They're taking on Brazil. Do they have a chance? Thank you for the very outstanding. on a limb minus 500 parlay you gave us. We're a little ridiculous. Brazil advances with a winner-drawn. But does Scotland, yeah, does Scotland have a chance there? Or is Brazil going balls to the wall because they need to win?
Starting point is 01:14:55 Brazil don't look good. I thought they would look good. Their coach is Carlo Angelotti. He's the most winning coach in the Champions League football. Some would say he's the greatest coach of all time. I see Italian. He used to coach A.C. Milan, Real Madrid. That's where you would have seen him.
Starting point is 01:15:08 He's awesome. Smoked cigars, hangs out with the boys. He's one of the best. But he hasn't made them look. that good. I haven't been impressed with Brazil at all. They're very individual still. They can't defend well. On the flip side, I thought with Scotland, they've got a good spine down their team. They got
Starting point is 01:15:20 Robertson, they got McTominy, who also plays in Italy. He was in the Therias MVP last season. McTominy, we love that guy. He's a beast. He's a beast. And then they've got McGinn up there too, but I'm also not impressed with them. But like this game's closer than the odds say. The draw actually looks like really good odds on that
Starting point is 01:15:38 graphic right now. So we'll see, but the Scottish fans have been the talk of the tournament, man. They've been out drinking, they've been drinking bars dry. They drank three times more than St. Patty's Day up in Boston, one of the bars said. So they're on fire, man. The vibes are all-time highs for the Tartan Army. Yeah, Scotland's on fire. Chances are happening.
Starting point is 01:16:06 They had to bring a Miller-Light barge to the beach in Miami because they were worried about running out of booze. Well, we appreciate us kind of getting the job done for these Scots who want to kind of get hammered everywhere they go and celebrate what we got going on. I've loved that with the World Cup coming to America. A lot of these people coming to America for the first time experiencing it. Obviously, the Scotland-Boston relationship is only going to grow. I think they're obviously going to have some sort of partnership. Kraft is now saying he wants to take the Patriots over to Scotland. It's all from this World Cup.
Starting point is 01:16:35 You guys in the soccer world talking about it, what is kind of your chatter? This has been an incredible World Cup for the state of soccer. Is that how you guys view it? Like, how have the super soccer marks kind of viewed what's been happening here in the World Cup in the United States? I got to tell you something. There was a lot of people, I think, almost hopeful that this thing would be a disaster, that the stadiums wouldn't be ready, that the grass was not going to be great, that the ticket prices, all these different things.
Starting point is 01:16:58 It's been pretty good. I mean, and it's delivered in a big way so far. I think the storylines, like I said earlier, they're really good. I think the competition is getting there. We'll see it as the round of 32 kicks off. We'll see it a little bit better. I mean, you go onto your feed, you see, you know, Mexicans kissing Koreans outside the stadium.
Starting point is 01:17:17 Just bringing those sort of combinations together, you just wouldn't see, I think, on a regular day. So there's something magical about it. You know, I get home and the kids are just watching it's on all day. There's action. We got degenerates in the building here as well, gambling on it all day. I was, again, fake money because it's against,
Starting point is 01:17:37 company policy, but there's action. There's action in the air. There's magic in the air. And it's just one of the best tournaments that the world gets to see every four years. Certainly. And we're lucky to be covering it. We're thankful that you've been stopping by, making us feel smarter and look smarter in it all. How do you feel about Canada, Switzerland today? Big time draw. Big time draw.
Starting point is 01:17:59 I play for Jesse. I play for the Canadian coach. And a lot of Americans not happy with him because he thought he was going to get the U.S. job. goes to Canada instead, like a little bit of like a move on purpose. And then he sings the Canadian National Anthem. Like it's like, like his great, great, great grandfather was the Canadian president at one point. So I think it rubs a lot of people the wrong way. But he's a good guy. He's a charismatic guy.
Starting point is 01:18:23 He's a good manager. And he plays rock and roll football. He steps on the gas, man. He doesn't care about tactics. He'll go and press the thing. He'll go and that's why he thought he should probably have the U.S. job because we have an athletic team. But he'll go and press the football. today. He's going to go and run all over
Starting point is 01:18:39 Switzerland and I think Switzerland have also a lot of quality so I think high scoring game and I think draw. I like to draw in that game. Okay. High scoring draw, 5.5. Got I said, rock and roll football. It scared me a little bit too. That sounds like Canada was going to ride, especially with... Like 2-2. Like 2-2. High-scoring. Okay, we like that.
Starting point is 01:18:56 We'll ride with every single one. Boosted a plus-3-300 if you're 21 plus and want to pledge that you'll gamble responsibly. Yeah. Ride with us today. All right, Grella. We appreciate the hell out of you, man. Have an incredible run. This has been great. I think you've been doing a great job covering soccer.
Starting point is 01:19:10 I think soccer world's been showing up in a big way. I like Zlatan and Tieri and Alexei Lawless's relationship kind of growing. I wish they'd get off Alexi's back a little bit for Christ's sake. There is a little bully job going on there. So we'll see. I've gotten a chance to work with all three, and they're all great. I'll tell you, though, like Alexei Lawless has been a constant for soccer. Long time.
Starting point is 01:19:35 Whole life. Whole life. Legit. I think every time people do, oh, Alexi's still doing it. And then it moved, like,
Starting point is 01:19:42 to a different network. And it's like, well, Lexi's still. There he is. It's like almost like he has been, like, soccer for a lot of people.
Starting point is 01:19:50 So there's a lot on and Tierra on Rees show. I think you guys are top 10 soccer players in the history of Earth. This guy doesn't know shit. Don't listen to him. It's like, well,
Starting point is 01:19:57 we've been listening to him. Yeah, what do you mean? 30 years, bro. This is our guy. Can we fucking maybe have a little respect for Alexi Loll's up there? and then you start looking around, nobody.
Starting point is 01:20:06 Yeah, I'm okay with Terry and Zlatan shit on him. I mean, that's a different thing. When you got everybody else saying, this guy don't know shit, fuck Alexi-Law? That's where I draw the line. The thing I'll say is this, and it's probably why I even have a job right now, is like perspective is important, right? So, like, you know, I've played at some of the highest level games. I've played some of the lowest level games, so I think I can get a pretty good perspective.
Starting point is 01:20:27 So look at it this way when you're watching Fox. You know, you're seeing Tieri-on-Ree was one of the greatest players all the time, and Zlatani Bernhardinovich, you're seeing their perspective, which is like the crem de la Crem, like the best that it gets, and then you're seeing Lalesis. That's like,
Starting point is 01:20:39 he was at Milan. What are you trying to say, Grella? I think a half a day. I think he was at Milan for like a couple hours once. You calling him Australia? Yeah, I don't like, but I don't know.
Starting point is 01:20:51 I want no beef. I need a week off from the beef, to be honest. But I think they're all great. I think they're all great. Everything has been great. Soccer has been awesome. You're the best.
Starting point is 01:20:59 Ladies and gentlemen from CBS Sports Galazzo. Michael Gerely. See you boys. Yeah. Brela. Love it. Uzbekistan. Iraq.
Starting point is 01:21:09 He wasn't wrong. He has no respect for any of those teams. I'm sorry. You're celebrating somebody else's goal like it was your goal against fucking Uzbekistan. That's what, that's what Grella just said. As your Grellig just said,
Starting point is 01:21:20 you know how he sent it up? You played this. You understand what this is? This guy was taking credit for somebody else's goal against Uzbekistan. Think about that. He did do that. Well, that's like,
Starting point is 01:21:32 It was hilarious. I did it to himself. But I think he was letting people know, like, hey, I'm back. Yeah. He said it twice. What was a lot? He said, like, I was on the way where he went somewhere. So I don't know how he can be back.
Starting point is 01:21:43 But okay, I guess he's back. They don't get along. That's a pretty good point. Slaton and Christiana Renauda. It doesn't feel like they get along very well. I'll tell you what. I've enjoyed learning about a lot of history of a lot of people quickly. I mean, watching the high school highlights of Messi.
Starting point is 01:21:58 It was startling. Sick. And then Umbapa, I learned a lot about him. Hey, a guy could score goals. Yeah. I guess he... Bappy's a dog. He is a dog.
Starting point is 01:22:10 He's a bit of a dog. High drama at Real Madrid all season long. That's what Gumpie's been trying to force us into believing, because obviously he is very pro-messy at all times. But he's saying him, Bob's got drama. That's what goal scores do? What kind of drama? What do you mean?
Starting point is 01:22:24 What's he mean? There's a rift in the team. There's a split in the squad, basically. Two coaches got fired. He went on a vacation. when he said he was hurt. They call him the dictator, actually. All right.
Starting point is 01:22:36 So this is a messy fan. Obviously, having a microphone trying to continue a narrative potentially about him, bop that we don't know about. But what I do know is he had a left boot that was an absolute cracker. Yeah, unbelievable. Exactly. Great player, no doubt.
Starting point is 01:22:49 Top player, top bins. Absolutely. Just like America has tomorrow, as we take on Turkey. Yeah. Turkey. Yep. Turkai. That works as well.
Starting point is 01:22:59 Hey. Oh, Turkaii. Oh, Turkaii? Right. Turkai, Turkey, yeah, I've heard it pronounce both ways. Hey, we're showing a lot of respect to everybody, I think, with the name plates. Rumor has that they actually might make them change it back because they weren't hammered dog shit when they were just turkey.
Starting point is 01:23:12 And then howl, so then they're Turkai and they stink. And they fired a coach already. Yeah. And a lot of people were picking them to win the group before the cup started. Yeah, and they just... Just not a quality side. So maybe Turkai not the right move. No.
Starting point is 01:23:27 Maybe let's go back to Turkey. Yeah. That's what I would say, but I'm not Turkish. Okay, let's talk a little football, American football, shall we? Congrats to Kyle Pitts. Three years. Good call. $54 million contract includes $36 million guaranteed.
Starting point is 01:23:42 Three years, $36 million guaranteed. Due to math, $12 million a year guaranteed to him. Now, what's the signing bonus? We shall learn over time. How much is it a hit against the salary cap? We shall find out. But congrats to Kyle Pitts, you know, obviously at the beginning with Art as the head coach and offense coordinator, we didn't 100% know what it was going to be.
Starting point is 01:23:59 like for this guy who was projected to be maybe the next one at the tight end position. We knew he was a Sunday player whenever he was playing on Saturdays. It was very obvious from the body type and everything that he was able to accomplish. Goes to Atlanta, a little bit of turmoil, a little bit of turnover, grows under this guy who's now getting paid the most ever from a tight end? Kiddle. Third most ever? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:24:24 That's crazy resetting the market of the tight end position. Yeah. Okay, so 12 million a year. guaranteed for a guy. 36 total over three years. At the tight end position. Tight end university every year they gather. They do. All these tight ends
Starting point is 01:24:39 they gather. They have a great time it looks like. Great time. Looks awesome. Did we know Danny Shea were going to be performing as well? Did not. Did we know Dan and Shay were also going to be performing? I think Luke Holmes was there as well. What? He was at tight ends and friends? Yes. Taylor Swift obviously.
Starting point is 01:24:54 Yeah. Lainey and Duck were there. I don't know that. Mac Jones is put on a show. Yeah. Yes, he was. Gillis. Shane was there? Shane looks, Shane looks trim.
Starting point is 01:25:05 Bill and Taylor. Shane looks unbelievable, and I assume he absolutely killed it. Will and Taylor, obviously, I mean, it was, maybe we should have been going to that. I don't think we were invited.
Starting point is 01:25:16 We were invited, I believe. I believe we were invited. Everybody was invited. We got the fever right now. You might have invited. They invited them. No, I think they invited the program.
Starting point is 01:25:26 They did. They've been very open with all of that because I think they do want to showcase what they're doing for a position. On that note, the business side of the position is something that they originally were trying to talk about at tight end university six years ago whenever it was coming together, because they're a wide receiver and they're a left tackle. Those two have such a higher cap on both of them.
Starting point is 01:25:44 How do you kind of judge what it is? He gets paid massively, and I'm happy that he's getting a chance to kind of continue to prove that he is exactly what we thought he was going to be in college, AJ. Yeah, I think of Kyle Pitts, like he is a match-up nightmare. No matter of when you think of going into a game, with him. All right, who do we match up with him? If he's split out in the slot, do you trust the linebacker on him? You want a safety on him. It doesn't matter. Like, he's so physically gifted. Yeah, I think with, you're right, he has had some, like, he hasn't had any, like, stability,
Starting point is 01:26:11 really, at quarterback, has he in his time there? I feel like it's always been up in the air. Stability at quarterback at coach. I wonder if they've changed even the parking spots every single year. Probably. I assume they have to be. Really confuse everybody. We have to reassign all of that. He's only 25, too. Like, geez. And everything we've seen with tight-e They are, they did a really cool social media video, which a lot of those are happening coming out of Tidin University, so many cool social media videos.
Starting point is 01:26:40 It was all the tight ends getting off the bus. They all looked the exact same. They all had the exact same build, the exact same head, the exact same body, and it's just big, very athletic and very tough. So 25, that's like 35, like the body types and the humans that become NFL tight ends, I think, are super species of ours. I think there's some of our super species.
Starting point is 01:27:04 I genuinely believe that. He's been talked about as that since college. I assume in high school, he was also getting talked about like that. We weren't a part of that at that time. So just the thought of Atlanta saying, hey, even though you're with previous regime, previous not great outcome, we'd like to keep you here because anytime there's new people in charge, there's a lack of loyalty to the people that were there before. This seemingly not the case with him, congrats to Kyle Pitts. Now, let's talk about loyalty. Is San Francisco going to move that practice facility? Why would they do that, Pat?
Starting point is 01:27:35 Well, from my understanding, from what I read, they are looking to expand and have more space in there isn't as much space here. That's why. They had an independent scientist, science company come and investigate the electro substation theory that a lot of people have had buzzing words about. As injuries seemingly were taking place
Starting point is 01:27:56 be in the electric magnetic substation is sitting right there next to it. Is that a part of the injuries? What happened to all the trees around the electric substation? Is there something that could potentially be alright? The 49ers are just looking for other options for their practice facility that have more space. The independent science from my reading said that there is no, there is no correlation between the electric and the... They're lying. I'm just telling you that's what the third-party independent science people did coming out of San Francisco. Because John Lynch said, former player, we'll look into it. We will definitely look into it.
Starting point is 01:28:32 He hired, I believe, third-party science company to look into it. They came out and said that there is nothing to it. They are just looking for more space, AJ. That's what they're saying. Now, if there's more space on top of another electric sub thing, will they do it? That's the question. I think no, because I think they told the Niners of truth, like, hey, this is killing your players. but we can't let that out into public
Starting point is 01:28:54 because then there'll be so many lawsuits around everyone living around all these substations. So we're going to say that it's no issue at all, but you guys should definitely move your practice. Allegedly possibly a thing. A thing that maybe happened in a movie that you are living in. Big time movie, yeah. Certainly a movie possibility that you were talking about there.
Starting point is 01:29:13 But that is not what they said. The independent party did the research said no correlation. So I move it. Jurassic Park. Because they want more space? they're sick of answering questions about it that's part of it i would i would guess too the players coaches gm everybody doesn't want to continue to ask question or answer questions and if it's no stone left unturned if there was an abnormality with your building versus everybody else's building i think
Starting point is 01:29:35 you would want to fix that but you would certainly want more room and space too if you didn't really have that shout to grella joining us talking about world cup fever let's stay in football buffalo bill's new stadium incredible yeah very well done and the Buffalo Bill's ownership cut the ribbon on the new stadium. And as they zoomed out in the drone, you really wondered, are they going to be able to get it right? Are they going to be able to get it right? Yes, standard UFO design of the modern stadiums.
Starting point is 01:30:06 But as you see, there is an opening in the middle. A lot of coverage for fans, if there was to be a massive snowstorm. But we're not going to get rid of the vibe and environment of a snow game in Buffalo. Need to have that throughout the history of ball. Just right across the street from the Ralph. the new High Mark Stadium. And with what they did with the bison out front, the way this looks, the way they've unveiled it,
Starting point is 01:30:27 the way it's rolled out, I love what they did up there. I can't wait to see if the Buffalo Bills can win them a Super Bowl for this new stadium. I can't wait to see if Josh Allen's able to get the job done and you see one of them bison out front actually wearing a brand new ring around it. That would be obviously the goal.
Starting point is 01:30:42 That would be the dream. Those fans showed up in a big way for this team for a long time. And I love that they're getting rewarded for it, AJ. And that place looks spectacular. Yeah, it does look. It looks amazing. It's funny you say like standard spaceship type building. It's true. Like you think of what Arizona, that's standard spaceship. Even their new, newest soldier field has a bit of a spaceship type of. Are they trying to tell us something? Is this some weird kind of thing going on with everything else surrounding, you know, what's going on in the world? Allegiance Stadium is certainly a UFO. I mean, there is a lot of those futuristic type of. I think so-fi you could say design from the future. It's like modern technology, modern engineering, modern structure, maybe modern science tells us that this is the best way to build one where you can maximize whatever the hell you're trying to maximize in there.
Starting point is 01:31:30 Sound nowadays, Wi-Fi. Yes. Need comfort in there. Need to be able to serve food to people, need to be able to get in and out of there. But obviously, also need to be loud. I enjoyed hearing Tyler Adams, a member of the U.S. Ben's national team, say that Seattle Seahawks Stadium was a lot of us he's ever been a part of. And it's like, well, they built that place. Yes, they did.
Starting point is 01:31:51 to be loud. I assume Buffalo did the same with the, I think these, these hangar over things are going to be really, really loud, and that's by design. Yeah, I know they did that for design for noise, as well as when it does snow that it will keep a lot of the fans protected from snow. Then also the wind. I know they designed it to like when, what was that a few years ago, when it was 80 mount hour wins, it was them and the Patriots and they couldn't, there was just no way anyone could score at all. I think it was three nothing, maybe Patriots won. But yeah, I know, was designed for the noise, the snow to cover the fans, and then the wind to protect the wind so that they can actually play actual football without doing an indoor stadium.
Starting point is 01:32:29 And the bison intimidating everybody. They're going to have lights on that with smoke coming out the nose. Be cool. And they need the- Spooky. They don't need the win one. They do. They absolutely do.
Starting point is 01:32:40 They do. To Andrews Cantor yesterday. Absolutely. I don't they ever have. Yeah. You tell me, you know, quarterback never won the Super Bowl is the greatest? Did he go? I don't know. You guys do this?
Starting point is 01:32:53 You know better than me. I don't know. What an answer. I don't know. Messi's got one if you're wondering. That was basically what he said. Josh Allen is going to be judged about that forever. Oh, yeah. Oh, no. Oh, you're in a Patrick Mahams era. That's cool. How many do he win? Oh, sweet. What did you? Oh, you guys got to.
Starting point is 01:33:09 Or at least, I mean, you have to win one, but they at least got to get to one. And Bean knows that, too. Yeah. I mean, now they moved on from McDermott. Obviously, he got a new head coach and Joe Brady. He's obviously offensive coordinator, offensive guru, offensive whiz kid, potentially a head coach in the NFL when he was like 32. That was years ago. Now he's getting an opportunity to be the head coach.
Starting point is 01:33:26 Feels like Bean and him are on the same page. They got a brand new stadium. Hold the phone. Is it the Buffalo Bills time? Or are they still in the New England Patriots Division? And all of a sudden, a big bad wolf up there in Foxborough has a squad again. They are now.
Starting point is 01:33:40 You know, they had their window. They had their chance. They had their home AFC title games that they blew and lost. And they had their away AFC title games that they blew and lost, both of which New England Patriots have gotten done, but you just said it there. Like, you just need to win one. Look at the guys during the Brady era.
Starting point is 01:33:55 Flacco, Big Ben, Breeze, Peyton. Like, they all at least got one. And think about how differently you view them than, like, Philip Rivers. That never got one. And was basically chasing that the entire time. That's a heartbreaker because we love Phil Rivers. Love Phil. That's real, though.
Starting point is 01:34:11 That is a very real thing. And Josh knows that. He's got another 20 years left, too. Big farmer body's taken care of himself. Obviously, you would hope that. at some point you'd be able to get it, but you never know. Burroughs in the same exact conversation. He's getting one during that time frame was huge for him.
Starting point is 01:34:26 Like, you've got to get one. Good luck, everybody. Joe, Lamar, Josh, Daniel Jones. Well. Drake. Lamar's ever won one? All right. Tony.
Starting point is 01:34:40 He's been to bend to one, right? Speaking of guys who blew home AMC title chances. What's everybody's problem right now? What are we? He's a boss of day. Hey, come on, it's June 24. I just want to watch soccer. World Cup Panza.
Starting point is 01:35:00 Also happening, June 24th. The magic of the summer is obviously baseball. MLB is happening, and we're right around the corner from MLB All-Star Break. Now, what is the All-Star break? Well, it's a home-run derby on Monday. And it's a red carpet on Tuesday. What? It's an all-star game on Tuesday night.
Starting point is 01:35:18 And then the ESP's is the next day. Right. So you're talking about like a hell of a week, hell of a spectacle, and ladies and gentlemen, a man that should be a part of all of it. Second baseman from the Milwaukee Brewers, a man who was on Team USA. We appreciate the hell out of him. He once won a platinum glove. You know what that means, AJ?
Starting point is 01:35:35 You know what that means? Tell me. Can you tell me about it? So I guess there's a gold glove like team. Like every position has a gold glover. Like, hey, this guy, unbelievable second baseman, third baseman, shortstop, first baseman, everybody gets gold glove. that you are the one playing defense.
Starting point is 01:35:51 That's the best. And then out of all the positions, one person gets platinum. This fucker did it. Ladies and gentlemen, Bryce Terang. Yeah. Hey, what's up, guys? Is that an accurate description?
Starting point is 01:36:09 How are you? Is that an accurate descriptor of the platinum glove? I just wanted to make sure everybody understood the importance and the levels to this shit. Yeah. They pick a winner from the gold gloves to win the platinum. that's correct. Are we going to do that again?
Starting point is 01:36:24 Are we getting another platinum? Obviously, you have one in the office at the moment. How do we feel about this year's defense? How do we feel about the Brewers? And how do we feel heading into the All-Star break here just a couple weeks away? Oh, we feel great. You know, with some of our starting pitchers striking out the world, it's kind of hard to get some good defensive numbers,
Starting point is 01:36:46 not getting very much opportunities. But, man, we feel good. It's been a great time. This season's been fun. We've got a lot of young guys who are competing and wanting to win, and yeah, we just got to keep it going. Can you tell me about coming out of the world baseball classic? Obviously, you're on Team USA.
Starting point is 01:37:03 The boys got a chance to watch you guys take Fungo. Yeah, Enfield. Fungo, infield. And they said it was the greatest thing they've ever seen. Now, I obviously was not able to see it because I was inside speaking about the potentials of a lockout and how this whole thing's going to go with upper management. of MLB, which I was grateful for the information.
Starting point is 01:37:23 Kind of scared me a little bit, but I heard I missed a fucking show. I heard I missed an absolute show. At the World Baseball Classic, how much are you guys sharing info? How much are you chit-chatting about? How much are you learning? And how do you think that kind of either propelled you into the season or maybe had an interesting start to the season for you? Well, I mean, for me, it was just learning guys' routines
Starting point is 01:37:46 and how they go about their business. You know, what makes these guys so great? I mean, having conversation with some of the best players in the world and just figuring out what makes them go, what makes them do their stuff. And the majority of it was preparing for the game. I mean, I could sit there and watch these guys prepare for the game and learn. There's always something new to learn all the time. I mean, those guys are so great to me.
Starting point is 01:38:12 Any question I had, they answered it. But, yeah, I mean, for sure, I think for me the most was the preparation. for the game that these guys took and what it takes to be the best in the world was cool to see okay quick question before the boys have their questions for you Bryce we appreciate you taking your time you know what I'm when I'm feeling a little bit I watch a video where I need to maybe let that thing hit off of this palm and then it hits off of this palm and then I'm back here real quick I believe it's like a little show a bambank a bum back and I'm timing that thing you know I'm getting out there. What do I need to think if I want to be a platinum glove member one?
Starting point is 01:38:52 We don't know yet. Okay, I'm on a lot of science. I don't know how the testing is. I've heard about your testing in the past, but I don't know what your testing is right now. But let's say I wanted, or I was a little child, maybe a high schooler. What's the number one thing I need to think about is my feet, is my hands, is my cat? What do you think is the number one thing to play in defense and baseball and becoming a potential platinum glover? Yeah, 100% your feet. Your footwork is what makes you look good. It's what makes you look smooth and gets you in the right position to
Starting point is 01:39:19 to field the ball. And then you worry about that stuff later and then making the throw. I mean, the accuracy is a big part of it. We always say you can make a million dollar play and a 10-cent throw. So no matter how nice a play you make, you got to throw, you got to put a good throw on it
Starting point is 01:39:38 or else he's going to be safe, so it doesn't count anyways. But definitely your footwork and then, you know, that stuff gets you the right position to make a good good play. Golly. So many games. So many. I'm thinking about my boy,
Starting point is 01:39:52 my baby boy, Midas, you know, he might have some good feet. He might have a good hands. And I'm just thinking about spending all summer out there. I mean, I'm getting tomatoed.
Starting point is 01:40:01 Think about how red I'm going to get out there. I'm going to have to roll up the sleeves through the entire thing. And I'm going to have to tell him, hey, got to get your fucking feet. Lose and brass terrain. Platten glove holder said, you got to fucking do this thing.
Starting point is 01:40:10 And a million dollar play. 10-seth row. Get your fucking ass into the bullpen there, pal. Yeah, I love your guys a sport. I do, but the athleticism in the infield, especially trying to turn to play,
Starting point is 01:40:20 is spectacular to watch. And massive respect for the web gems happening all over the place. AJ has a question for you, Bryce. Yeah, Bryce, you talked about the prep from, like, all the greatest players that you were around at the World Baseball Classic. Is there anything that you have, like, implemented into your pregame routine or during the game that you learn from some of these greats of the World Baseball Classic?
Starting point is 01:40:41 Yeah, I mean, just the, the reps that they take. I mean, every single one is like there's, they're not just out there just doing it. It's every single rep is to get better. And every swing they take is for a reason. Every drill they do is for a reason. And for me, I mean, I was a guy who worked out after the games. And then I went to the WBC and I was talking to some of the guys and they're like, do a little bit every day before the game, kind of put it part of your activation.
Starting point is 01:41:11 And so I started doing that. So I started picking up on that. and just seeing how each individual rep matters so much more than taking so many. You hear that glove pop there a little bit, huh, Bryce? Yeah, I do. That's a million dollars. You go right there. Can't be a team.
Starting point is 01:41:32 Throwing the net. Throw one to the net. Throwing the middle of the net. What are you talking about? I found my, I found my shit. I found my shit. Yeah, you found your arm slot. Found my arm slot.
Starting point is 01:41:40 There you go. Bryce, I was trying to do this one here, you know, and I was trying to do this one. he or couldn't throw a strike and then I realized I take that thing a little bit down to like three o'clock about three o'clock. Four of a sidearm guy. Right there, yeah.
Starting point is 01:41:52 Yeah. I saw the abats that you had against Kerrshall. And? Hey. Yeah, I see it. I see it. It's there. Boom. Thank you. Okay. I'm happy to hear that. Because I think I hit it so poorly to the left
Starting point is 01:42:10 that second base shorts up, stumble. Infield single for sure. And I make it on base. I'm stealing. I'm stealing, obviously, because Clayton's doing the full fucking... Yeah, it takes so long. And I already got that one figured out. You know, he did hit me with a curve, and that was certainly something. It was a...
Starting point is 01:42:25 It was certainly a fascinating thing to learn about baseball and what it looks like coming through. Because Kershaw, obviously, at end, he retired. He literally was retired. And just seeing the amount of movement on that ball, it's like, holy hell. You don't really feel it until you're in there and understand it. So much respect for what you guys do, actually. How long the season is is crazy to me? know why we're doing that, but I respect it. I like that we're doing all that. And it feels
Starting point is 01:42:49 like there's a player on your team that is doing something that's defying all odds due to how long a season is in the position that he is. Go ahead, Tom. Yeah, Bryce, you talked about earlier about your guys, your pitchers striking guys out, so not a lot of plays to be made behind them, specifically Ms. Mr. Roskowski, who came on in the scene. We talked to him last year at the All-Star game. Some people were pissed he was at the All-Star game because he only had like five starts. Those people were wrong because now he's got a full season under his belt and he's throwing 105 every single
Starting point is 01:43:17 pitch and striking everyone out. How crazy is what he's doing on the mound? And seriously, like, how hard is it to, I don't want to stay focused but say, not get engaged behind him because you know it's rare that someone's going to put in one in play. Dude, it's honestly impressive to
Starting point is 01:43:35 watch. I mean, you see I mean, I've seen it from behind second base for a while now. I've even fissed him one time. Yeah, it's impressive. I mean, that fast ball gets on you quick.
Starting point is 01:43:52 Not much time to really react there. But, yeah, to stay locked into those games when he's pitching, you've got to really tell yourself, like, hey, at any given time, a ball can be hit. So just staying, yeah, trying your best to stay locked in. I mean, it's, dude, it's fun watching him pitch, especially from behind him, seeing, And seeing that fastball is, it's electric for sure.
Starting point is 01:44:14 And kids throwing gas. Yeah, so let's talk about the gas that he's throwing in where you're standing. And obviously you can get caught understanding that they're never going to be able to hit this guy. But that's coming to you faster than ever, right? If the ball is getting pitch faster than ever, then in theory, right, that ball is potentially coming to you guys faster than ever? Is that an accurate depiction of that? And in your position, what is the fear? Face?
Starting point is 01:44:37 Like, what is the, for you guys? You're standing very close to very hard balls traveling very fast. And if a guy's pitching 105 miles an hour, I assume it's coming off the bat. Not that it is often, but it's coming off fast. Is that worry for infield? Like, how do you do? Is that something that we need to watch more? How often is that something you're thinking about?
Starting point is 01:44:57 There's definitely certain guys that step up to the plate that you're like, this guy could hit a bolt while at 120 miles an hour. And at that point, you're just reacting. you're just trying to put a glove on it. You know, but I would say for me, not necessarily because I'm a little bit deeper, but like when a first basement is holding a runner on and they got a left-handed hitter who can hit the ball hard and they're kind of standing there, they're just hoping that they don't get a ball hit down their throat.
Starting point is 01:45:27 So that's a reaction. That's definitely a reaction thing for those guys. I got a little more time, you know, I'm a little further back. But some of those first basements or third basements who were playing in, and you got, you got guys like O'Neill Cruz hitting, and you're like, this ball might get hit really hard. So it's definitely a thought. And, yeah, you definitely worry about your teeth.
Starting point is 01:45:53 You still want your teeth. Yeah, hockey guys, they're cool with the teeth disappearing. You have no feeling in your hands? Because, like, my fingies, you know, whenever we're – whenever – inside the little, I don't know if there's enough padding in mine or where my hand was, but it felt like my thingies really hurt there. For you, just numb hands?
Starting point is 01:46:14 Like, do you guys just have numb hands? No. To answer your question, no. I've definitely gotten hit, and I've caught in a ball, and you'll get a bruise in the palm of your hand for a couple weeks if you get it in a good spot. Yeah, well, the goodness is you don't need that ever, right? in baseball? You don't need your palm or your hand. That doesn't sound. Do you have a tat on the outside of your hand there?
Starting point is 01:46:41 Yeah, I got a, this tattoo, and I got the other side, too. Okay, are you a switch hitter? I don't know. Do you hit from both sides? Do you need to see some ink on your hand? Before you go into a batter's box? Like, when did we do the hand tattoo? I did the hand tattoos when I was, oh man, maybe 22. I did my arms, and then I kind of kind of started creeping down into my hands did like one hand tattoo and then i was like you know what i'm just going to go for it um i enjoy i like them so um but i wear batting gloves when i hit so i don't see him anyways i wish you might see through the top there yeah yeah for the compass and the moon is that what it is we're looking at directions we're looking up to the sky where do we do yeah exactly
Starting point is 01:47:25 no i got my mom's eye on my left hand i got the the moon there's a there's a song called so will i and that's kind of the theme of my right arm uh uh tattoos so I enjoy my tattoos I like them people were like you're gonna regret them I'm like uh it's right no they look sick yeah you you always look cool yeah you always look cool yeah you all you need to know that so why is that song about just being like the best glove in the world like so why again um no no okay i know it's uh it's a it's a it's a christian song that i uh that i really like come on i enjoy the hell out of that thank you for the knowledge and thank you for the knowledge and looking sweet out there. We do need
Starting point is 01:48:08 see-through gloves, though, you know, so we can see the entire story. Kind of Mickey about. There you go. Bear hands. Jason Kendall. Jason Kendall did it. Moises-A-Loo. Choke-up. Something thinking about, yeah, choke up, bare hands. You guys are pitching 105 right now. Ty has a question for you, Bryce.
Starting point is 01:48:24 Yeah, Bryce. I don't know if you've seen it, but just you know, I know you won the Platinum Globe. A lot of guys right now are actually playing second base with lollipops in, so maybe that might be something you, you know, kind of run with for the rest of the season. Maybe help, you know, they'll protect those teeth as well. But when you look at your team as a whole, like, do you feel like this is kind of the year?
Starting point is 01:48:44 You guys are obviously very under the radar when it comes to the NL. All anyone talks about is either the Dodgers or the Mets, you know, the Phillies, I guess. But then after what you did last year, like, I'm hoping, you know, and I know you don't have anything to do with this, but like I'm hoping you guys are going to go get scoobo at the trade deadline, even if, you know, you don't re-sign him this year. But like a one-two punch of him and Ms. like with how well you've been playing and how well you guys played last year,
Starting point is 01:49:08 like is the belief there in the clubhouse that like, hey, nobody else really believes in us being in Milwaukee, but like we know come October, we are going to be one of the toughest outs in baseball. I mean, we are really good guys who have totally
Starting point is 01:49:27 bought into the type of player that they are and bought into the type of team that we are and scoring in every aspect of the game or you know, pitching well, playing good defense-based running. So we got a lot of guys who bought into that. And I mean, it's great, dude.
Starting point is 01:49:43 We're very confident in our team and what we got. And we're confident in each other and trusting each other. So that goes a far away. Yeah, dude, I mean, it's, it's been fun. It's been a really good time. And we just got to go out there and compete. You guys popping Mitz over there on daily? Like, when do we pop Mitz during the season?
Starting point is 01:50:06 When do we just kind of, like, Like in the clubhouse, you guys just picking up a mitt and just say, hey, how you're doing? Just kind of spinning it. Just kind of doing one of those. You guys just pop in mitts and just kind of, whoa, see that? They pop right up there, just big stretch. Got both fingers outside. I heard this what we're doing it for pros.
Starting point is 01:50:22 Oh, really? That's what we're doing for pros. It's not what we're doing. Two fingers. No, certainly not. Who told you that? I'm tired of my point. There you know.
Starting point is 01:50:30 I'm all bruised up. Gay, I'm tired of it and getting bruised up in here. I'm done with it. I'm putting it out there. Two fingers. He's out. Why, too? Oh, just...
Starting point is 01:50:40 Go ahead. You could just move your finger over, so put it out and then just move it over a little bit, and it'll help you out. Or you don't put your hand as deep into the glove as you got it in there. Oh, you're saying we need to have a little casual, a little and looser, okay? But what if I lose the thing?
Starting point is 01:50:56 Yeah. Yeah, we're probably... Okay, all right, we'll see. Voting for All-Star ends tomorrow at noon. This man obviously deserves to be over in Philadelphia, representing not only the brewers, but all of baseball. Appreciate the hell out of you, Bryce.
Starting point is 01:51:08 Thank you for joining us, brother. Hey, thank you. No, it's good to have a conversation. I remember you. My brother-in-law, points for the commanders. And I remember you way before doing video clips, and we'd send him in our family group chat, and we'd all just be dying, laughing.
Starting point is 01:51:24 Trisway. So those are really great times. Trisway. Tres is a legend, by the way, an absolute legend in this entire thing. And, yeah, he's always been so cool and kind to me when he potentially is going to go down as a goat, whenever it's all said and done with how long he's been in there.
Starting point is 01:51:37 So massive respect for your family. And thank you, Bryce, for joining us. You're a legend, brother. Yeah, heck yeah. Thanks for having me. Watch this one. Good time. Watch this.
Starting point is 01:51:47 Check this shit out. Turn two. Turn two. Yeah, here you go. Yeah, here you go. Two at a time? No. There, not bad.
Starting point is 01:51:58 There it is. Okay. All right. One more. Hey, that was the 10-10 throw we were talking about. Yeah. We'll see, actually. We just got that wall in.
Starting point is 01:52:10 He just pulled the first thing got that wall. Maybe more in 10 cents. Need first basement to make a play. Yeah, he did. Irish thing. Oh, Oh, my God.
Starting point is 01:52:27 That's a fucking shattered into a thousand pieces. That was awesome. Son of a gun. Do one more. Do one more. Ah. I don't know. You guys get a good shot of that?
Starting point is 01:52:40 Because that thing exploded. Oh, my God. You can zoom out. You can zoom out of that. I believe any L.A.S. Sletters. Son of a gun. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 01:52:52 That's the letter. All right, yeah, it is. All right. Vote for Bryce. All right. All right. Bryce, I need to take a little bit better coaching next time.
Starting point is 01:53:00 Yeah, Bryce. I got a, I think I know what my miss is. Yep. Yeah. It has always been. Right there. It's right. Tail on the arm side.
Starting point is 01:53:11 I haven't heard glass break like that since AT&T Stadium. Stone cold. All right. That was fucking awesome. Did I turn to? I don't know if I turned to it. No, that went into the dugout. Maybe hit the batter right in the face.
Starting point is 01:53:27 Sports center's next. It'll be so much better than this. Goodbye. That was good sound of one of our best. That thing exploded. Dead center. Yeah. I mean, it was this far away.
Starting point is 01:53:38 AJ, do you hear that come through the? Oh, yeah. I heard it loud and clear. I feel great about the draw now. I feel great about the draw now. Are we? Yeah, I feel great about it. That was the thank you letter that AJ wrote us? Yeah, that's exactly what that was.
Starting point is 01:53:53 Very kind of him to do that. We appreciate that. Okay, let's see if the soccer thing can do a little different. Obviously, we are on Canada-Switzerland draw team ride. Yep. One of these games start, three at five? Three o'clock. Two at three, two at six, two at ten.
Starting point is 01:54:08 Nine, excuse me. There's a psychic that says. says to maybe an alien or UFO shows up today, AJ, so maybe your dream comes true. If you're 21 plus and want a team ride with us, we're doing draw Kansas, K in Switzerland. And Grello thinks maybe 2, 2, 3, 3, 4. Yeah, exactly. Could be exciting, you know.
Starting point is 01:54:23 An exciting, riveting draw is really something that soccer has and nobody else has. That's right at the attack. Absolutely. I mean, he said it, rock and roll football coming right down your throat. Erie Kane? Fuck Erie Kane. Is he going home? They put him on a ship?
Starting point is 01:54:40 We know a lot about ships, don't we? I'll tell you what, up to something seasons in an interesting place right now. Jams. Thanks up, Jams. Jams. Love Jams. Absolutely love Jams. Jams. What are you, what is, are you okay? Yeah, what would happen?
Starting point is 01:54:56 Well, your face just to us celebrating Jams, as if you don't fully understand that Joms is the greatest peanut butter and jelly that you can possibly find. Available nationwide, Target and Walmart. Boom. And also, go puff. Is that something right?
Starting point is 01:55:10 Yep, yep. normally you can you can find it on there as well age and it sounds like maybe with your reaction you don't fully understand how pumped we are about being a part of a pb and j that can uh maybe change the entire world a j i don't know if he gets it over there a j and jay should stand for jams but it sounds like he's not jama yeah a a should stand for always you know so he's always joms potentially jauman you're not jaman is this is this like uh are we building into some big thing you're about to do is that what's happening yeah Something big's coming, I would say.
Starting point is 01:55:43 I mean, like right now this moment, like a big presentation, are you going to turn two again or something? No, I was going to wait until that soccer ball kind of just ran itself over here, but it appears if it is not going to do that. So that was just a little bit of a feel. But we do have a replay on turning two with Bryce Terang, a platinum glove. Yep, go ahead. Remember Irish, what's just the whole thing?
Starting point is 01:56:06 Oh! Okay, let's go back. Let's go back. go back. It does appear as if everybody heard the sound. It's very loud and clear. That was real glass. That was real glass. Gordino's got you on the bowl. Go ahead and turn one, turn,
Starting point is 01:56:21 turn, take out. Get down. Oh, shit. Dead squares right in the center. Yeah. I mean, what was I aiming for? You'll never know. You were in for that. All the time. That is my miss.
Starting point is 01:56:34 Is that a letter from a Dalai Lama or something? Yeah, it was an important letter. It was funny letter. Yeah. The Dalai Lama. We'll just reframe it. It was right over the waterfine. you know, we wanted to see it.
Starting point is 01:56:42 Exactly. Actually, water fountain gets used a lot more than people could imagine. You know, back in high school, used to be a big-time water fountain. Huge. Every break. Love her water fountain. You know, you get those little small water founts, you hate it. Come on.
Starting point is 01:56:53 Come on. You're like licking out of the hole. Yeah, it's fine. You still did it, though. Yeah, you definitely did it. But you know, everybody else had to do it, too. So everybody was doing that. It was kind of, we're kind of a puppet to those water fountains.
Starting point is 01:57:02 But we definitely did it as well. When you found a good. Oh, I'm better. The goal. Oh. I'm better. The whole team's waiting behind you, though, so you got to be a good teammate, not stay there too long because you only have 30 second break. Those are so good.
Starting point is 01:57:17 So much fun. Get that. We have one of those. We have like a medium one. Not a super duper one that's going to become, you know, super distracting and a little slippy all over the place. Just pretty good solid. And then also the bottle fill one. It does have a huge.
Starting point is 01:57:33 It has a taste to it. It does a little bit. This water here? Like metal or what? No, I would say it's metallicy. I love drinking out of a hose growing up. Yeah, exactly. Still growing up.
Starting point is 01:57:46 Yeah, I mean, I'm not around the hose just kind of running as much as I was, maybe in the younger days. But I'll tell you, if I find one, it's a hot day and there's a hose of water running through it, I'll drink it. Yeah, I'll take swig. I'll drink it. It's always cold. Probably should keep an eye on that, though, because there is a good chance that Tago eats like a handful of glass. Because he's always... And he wouldn't even think twice about.
Starting point is 01:58:06 That's what I'm saying. Like, his mouth will be bleeding. He might actually help his brain. Yeah. Come on. He would just keep chewing and drinking it and just have no idea that was happening. The crunchy glass is pretty good. Yeah, he'll make a comparison to maybe like Newport.
Starting point is 01:58:19 You remember Newport was allegedly putting glass inside of its stuff, so he cut it open so it could get into your veins. Yep. He's going to say he did that with his water. He put a little shards of glass so he could get into his bloodstream. Talk wasn't figured out, I think. Might be his Joker arc, perhaps. You don't get enough credit for employing the people that you do.
Starting point is 01:58:35 Thank you. Thank you. I think about that a lot. Me too. Things happen, and I go, where else? Just for a living. That's true. For a living.
Starting point is 01:58:46 What would it be? I don't know. That's for all of us, and we're lucky for it, aren't we? Come on. This, ladies are gentlemen. This is for $50,000. Boom. To who?
Starting point is 01:59:01 Potentially you. Tell them, AJ. Yep. If you join this, 50K to you, one of the lucky people out there. Oh, not one. No, no, no, no. Charity. Hoggo.
Starting point is 01:59:11 Hago, walk it back. Walk it back. Probably like 100 winners of $500. Yeah. Because tax purposes, obviously under 500. You got to let him know where you could be paid at to. Yeah, we need that in. Digitually.
Starting point is 01:59:24 You need to repost this video. And then you also need to do that with saying something nice to somebody. Yeah. Anybody. Yep. Summer should be easy. Yeah, a lot of good vibes. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:59:37 then put the easiest way to pay you, and then you could be randomly selected potentially to win. $500. $500.000. Of a total $50,000. Thank you for doing that, AJ. Good work. Is it easy to say something nice to somebody in the summer than the winter?
Starting point is 01:59:53 Yes. Am I missing something? Overall. I love the one. Steelers aren't ruined in my life. Well, the Steelers certainly can bring it down. Your team can certainly ruin your life in the fall. But seasonal depression, I think, is like a scientifically proven thing.
Starting point is 02:00:07 Yeah. Yeah, the sun is good. I agree. But obviously, what you're saying is, we can't let that beat us. Yeah, old boo-hoo. Oh, you're saying, be mean all the time. AJ's saying, be nice all the time.
Starting point is 02:00:19 Oh, be nicer in the winter. Yeah. Yeah, why not enjoy it? All your pretty little bees, let's see what happens to them in the winter. The Hawkeye? They go under. They're preparing right now, Tony.
Starting point is 02:00:30 You know that. How is the Hawkeyev doing right now? It's doing great. Just letting them, you know, trying to stay as, hands off as I can. You don't do anything for these fucking things. You say that every single time.
Starting point is 02:00:42 They're doing great. They're doing great. I'm just pretty hands off letting them do what they got to do. That's what you say every single time. I can't bring the nectar for them. I can't go out and collect pollen and nectar for them. They are already doing that on their own. Sounds like this whole rigaborral stinks.
Starting point is 02:00:57 You should just take that beehive and go throw it in the river or something. No, he's going to get honey on this thing. Don't live through that. Okay, so what have you had to do other than just kind of collect them? Have you found the queen? Have we marked the queen? I have not, but I've done a lot of, like, so I'm going to get in there probably tomorrow, actually. No, like, I've talked to many people with the pattern and everything going on,
Starting point is 02:01:16 it's even like they say, don't worry. Like, this is a great pattern, what they're doing. They're very calm as well. I go out there without my suit on and kind of replenish their sugar water and everything and just peek at them. Everything's going great, but I'm going to be inspecting again probably tomorrow or the next day where I'm going to at least put the top of the suit on, the headpiece, and get in there and maybe even find that queen.
Starting point is 02:01:36 Okay, so you are potentially snooping around for the queen, but we're not invest in real time for the queen at this point. If you happen to see her, that'd be great news. You'd like to mark her, but if you don't, it's not a big deal. How long can you go without knowing who the queen is? Because I thought the beehive needs the queen B, I thought. Pretty important. Oh, yeah. Well, there's all kind of different situations that could be happening.
Starting point is 02:01:55 Like there's queens that have not made their mating flight yet. There's virgin laying queens. You've got to make sure they got eggs in there. The queen is laying eggs in there taking care of those eggs. That's what we're trying to do. Good luck finding your queen When do you get honey? Oh, not for a long time
Starting point is 02:02:10 I mean eventually But that's the thing Like there's already capped honey In there that they have produced But that's for them That's for them over the wintertime They need to You know store it
Starting point is 02:02:18 And when do we get our honey? Yeah, when's human honey When's not the war chest honey? Do we have to wait for that in the spring? Yeah, for sure I think after the winter And after they come through it It's stronger and better than ever
Starting point is 02:02:30 Then I'll think about harvesting some money Have you seen the Jerry Seinfeld B movie? I actually did see it recently. I did. It's a great movie. Really good. Very good movie. I think so, too. I learned a lot about the piece. I respect what they got going on in there. Yeah. It's cool. Paul and his problem, man.
Starting point is 02:02:44 They should make a second one. They probably will. Sure they will. I hope Jerry does. I hope he has Tracy Morgan in there too. Can we get Tracy Morgan and everything, by the way? Has anybody heard from him since the Knicks of one? No, he's pretty jacked up, though. It's not at the parade. Did you? Yeah. He was there.
Starting point is 02:03:00 How's Satchel Liberty? Pregnant? Yeah. Yeah. Well, actually, that night. Yeah, they lost that thing. Not what I'm saying since then, yes. AJ, tell him. Oh, yeah, multiple people. Maybe like $500 a person.
Starting point is 02:03:17 If you make this kick, this drop kick into the hoop, $50,000 will be going to people. But you got to post this clip, say something nice about somebody, which is much easier in the summertime I am learning than the winter. Although, you know, the sun will help with that. And then tell us how we can pay you. Well, said. My God. And you can't take cash.
Starting point is 02:03:38 This guy knows. Put it home. Yeah, that's pretty good. Yeah, pretty good. No brain trauma there. We knew it. Good ball, good touch. Wow.
Starting point is 02:03:52 Didn't need to bank it either. That was awesome. Wow. That was pure. Holy shit. Pure touch. Eric Kane could never. I love what we did.
Starting point is 02:04:04 We got World Cup fever. And now some people got some, some winnings it appeared. That's a little summer retreat here. Yeah. See? Summer. What a bull. What a touch.
Starting point is 02:04:16 I mean, replay here, a little slow mo. Go back to the beginning there. I mean, I'm going to celebrate this for real because I'll tell you, I thought I was never going to make it. A.J. Hawk delivered such a great intro there. Yeah. Had to celebrate it.
Starting point is 02:04:29 How could you not? You've been all around it. Brand new Air Forces, by the way. Crispy, someone would say. Don't scuff them. I'll try. or two. Splash.
Starting point is 02:04:43 Was that with the inside of your foot? Is that how you should kick that? For that type of shock. Up to you, really? That is what I chose to do. I assume somebody else would do something differently that was better at soccer than me. But I'll tell you what, $50,000.
Starting point is 02:04:56 Drain to it. Going to 100 different people in $500 increments. We can't wait to celebrate you. Celebrate summer. Celebrate soccer. Celebrate the World Cup. Celebrate life in sports being the greatest thing of all time. Be your friend, tell a friend,
