In the second hour, we are joined by ESPN writer extraordinaire Mark Schlabach, who updates us on The Open Championship, which saw Sam Burns and Lucas Herbert both shoot 62s today. Hello beautiful people and welcome to our humble abode, the Draft King's Thunderdome. On this feel-good Friday, July 17, 2026, this program begins now. Sports are the absolute greatest and we're so incredibly lucky that we get a chance to chat about them every single day. This morning has been crazy here at the Thunderdome and that's because magic is happening everywhere. Not only do we have a major taking place overseas where whoa, whoa, whoa, don't look now, low scores coming in. Is that because the weather is the way it is? Because the wind's not as bad as it is.

Is it because the boys are used to the heat? Is it because the course is running for them? Is it because they've mastered golf potentially? But we've had some low, low scores this morning. Will that continue to continue throughout the weekend? We shall see. We also have a lot of magic happening around football. Don't look now.

First teams, first players have reported for training camp. Yeah. Now we go. Seahawks rookies in the best. building. Good luck to them, obviously, enjoying their offseason now into a full football season. Remember, the rookies in NFL have to go through their college season, okay, whatever, whether junior, seniors, whatever the hell it is, whenever they come out, whole entire, oh, sorry, let's go back, training camp into their last college football season, into their college football season,

into college football postseason, directly into a combine prep, right into the combine, then into their pro day, then you get drafted, then you got rookie mini-camp, then you have OTAs, then you have three days off, and then you have boom, rookies report in a mini camp, or training camp, and then, oh yeah, longest football season you've ever had in your entire life on the other side. The Seahawks rookies are going to experience it longer than anybody. Congratulations. Congratulations. Good luck for us. They took up, they talk about that rookie wall about week eight, week nine, into about week 13, week 14, where there's literally

you're in this kind of what's that called, not heaven, not hell? The beginning of your work, which was the beginning of your last college football season, is so far behind you. You have no idea. And then the light at the end of the tunnel for the end of the season? Nowhere

near. You might have to travel three different countries until that thing's there. So from like week nine to about week 14-ish, week 15-ish, those rookies are just surviving. I mean, it is just like, how do I find motivation. How's my body hold up? How do I not continue to just get pummeled? And oh yeah, the most important football is happening right now. So what rookies have to do in the NFL is rude.

What rookies have to do in the NFL is difficult. But there's only so many spots, kid, go ahead. We all had to do it. Good luck. The Indiana Hoosier team that we got a chance to sit behind at the Espeys, those kids, 16 and 0 longest college football season of all time. Oh, congratulations, you make it in the NFL. Longest NFL season happening of all time with the most amount of travel. And if you're on a team that's good, that Super Bowl is in for another two years, buddy. So good luck out there, you young bucks, you can handle it. Excited that we're already at training camp. Can't wait to cover the rookies in Seattle as if they are. Patrick Bahamas and Travis Kelsey at training camp next week.

That's right. The talks at tables here at Boss Conner at Ty Schmidt. How many days, con man? Fifty-four days. And we'll be, uh, what, 53 days, 23 hours in about 59 minutes at 821 tonight. Very, very excited for it all. And you know what? It's probably hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. For those guys, for us, we can now see the light at the end of the title. You know, we're saying sports in the intro. We're very close to saying football once again. Hall of Fame game, I believe, is 20 days away less than three weeks.

That is unbelievable just to think about seeing people playing. We also have to remember, hey, after Hall of Fame game, although it is awesome, seeing kickoff, seeing kick returns, that football does not kind of reflect the football that we're about to see. very, very soon. You're talking about to football this weekend. Obviously, the World Cup has been holding up its end of the bargain for all of us, and we appreciate soccer for that. Yeah, absolutely.

It was a bummer whenever those games stopped being every single night. I'm being serious. Whenever we're just sitting through a night with nothing, it's like, man, you know what? I kind of wish some of these foreign little bastards were run around on a football player right now playing soccer. Okay, that is what I was thinking. This weekend, Saturday, third place game for France and England. Good luck, glad.

Can't wait. And then World Cup Championship on Sunday, obviously. over there in New York, New Jersey, MetLife Stadium, in the shadows of New York City, Spain versus Argentina. Spain obviously favorite number one team in the country, or in the world, if you do recall, Spain, Argentina, France, and England are the top four teams in the world, world rankings going into the World Cup. They obviously become the final four.

Is there enough parody? Huh. That's a great question. It doesn't seem like it. Maybe soccer needs to look into its parody issue. Maybe we need a little drafting thing to be changed. Maybe we do need the guys that are playing in the countries. which they play in and place they call residency, play for those teams.

Yes. For instance, that guy on the right side of the picture right there, he should be playing for American. That's right. I hope he has a good time here with Argentina. I hope he goes back to back. Me too. Because I don't really like watching the Spain team play soccer.

I know they're very talented. Congrats to you guys for being a world power and being their number one team in a world. I'm pulling for Messi. But also, I hope he goes back to back with Argentina. That would be sweet because he might become the first guy ever win three World Cups in row with two different countries. Yeah, exactly. Money likes for America.

Four years from now, that's what we're hoping for. This weekend, huge for football. But also, I mean, we don't need to call Jim Cantor. Our eyes on the internet tie, I've been seeing something that might be a bit alarming. It might make us go, is the under the play here for this World Cup final time? Well, yeah, is the under the play? Is the game going to even be played on Sunday, is the question? Because listen, we've had this type of thing happen before with the Wild

fires up in Canada and then we get the notifications on our phone like, hey, air quality's not good in Indy and it's kind of like, okay, yeah, whatever. Sounds good. We were just in New York and I think it was what, Monday, like blue skies looked unbelievable. Tuesday when we were going to the SPs, it was like, what the hell's going on? Starting to get a little Gotham city. Yeah, it was like smoggy almost. And now we're seeing videos come out from Pittsburgh and Philadelphia and other places on the East Coast. And like they're basically saying, like I think, I think it was, their advising people to stay inside. They said, hey, if you are walking around the city today, the air quality is the equivalent of smoking like 10 cigarettes. So don't do that. We've already

had a bunch of baseball games either. They're stacking them to play double-headers to get them done earlier. There's a chance that like the Dodgers are in New York to play the Yankees. So we'll see. I mean, that game's supposed to be on Sunday in New York. I hope the air quality is good enough for them to play. New York, New Jersey. Well, yeah, exactly. That games in New York, New Jersey, obviously, which is very fascinating the way they title it just from the beginning and also now with the World Cup. Long's in air, not a big deal for soccer? I would assume that it is a huge deal.

That really does, because America has had such a good run here with the World Cup. Yeah. Not that Canada and Mexico have not. Let's say we have absolutely crushed it. But now the combination of the Canadian fires with the air quality, which we've experienced over the last couple of years, Canada, by the way, this, if this is what we're getting, I don't even know what it is out there.

They're obviously scary, scary, scary, scary stuff. Plus with the flooding that happened, I mean, scary stuff whenever the Earth just has this shit. I don't know how it's possible for these things to take place. But I do appreciate the fact that our planet just continues to pump through and just kind of filter it out. And inevitably, we'll be back to being clear skies. But this is a long time. It was like weeks and weeks and weeks of us having shitty air. This is just hitting now.

Sunday having a World Cup final. I don't want this to dilute the America World Cup experience. I agree. I can happen. But there's a chance. two best teams in the world can't breathe for shit in a game in which you need to yeah you be stuck in air

the whole time which team smokes more sigs on the regular yeah who's built for this who was born in the dark you know like if Maradonna was playing right now he'd be like that guy yeah be better is going to be skipping through this entire smog but that is something that's going to be really talked about and obviously we here in America are going to be dealing with

this because of the Canadian fires couldn't even imagine what it's like up in Canada T's peace to everybody but definitely something we should think about with soccer now let's talk about the major that's taking place throughout this weekend as well. Huge morning over there in England, pal. Yeah, it was. You opened the show with the low scoring. There are now six men all time who have shot a 62 in a major championship round. Two of those men being today. On the left, you have Lucas Herbert there who came out and shot a 62.

He shot a 28 on the front nine, Pat, which is absolutely insane. I believe he birdied eight of his four. first 11 holes. He is your current leader right now for the golf tournament at minus 8. And then Sam Burns, the other man on that graphic. He also shot a 62 today. He chipped in out of the sand to shoot that 62 on 18. They had unbelievable rounds, historic rounds today. And then also at the top of the leaderboard, Cam Young has shot back-to-back 67s. He's minus 6. That's what we got going on right now. Royal Beck, damn. Shooting a 62 in a major round has

happened seven times, two times by Zander Schoffley in 2024 and 2023. Sam Burns, Lucas, Shane Lowry has done it in 2024. 2023, Ricky Fowler did it. 2017, the great Brandon Grace.

Yes. Oh, yeah. South African. Shout out. I mean, you should have 62 in a major. Let's imagine the conversations you're having with yourself. Well, you're playing some golf. No, but yeah, but then whenever you're Brandon Grace, I never heard from again, it's like, I can.

Yeah. I definitely heard it. I definitely can, but why, you know. So hopefully these guys will continue to do this. Obviously, a historic morning. A lot of people talking about he could have broke the record of all time. Missed a putt. I hate that that's the conversation.

Guy just put together one of the most historic rounds of all time. And all anybody's talking about is, well, if he could just put a ball maybe on the 18th. Oh, boy. Get off, get it off. Let's not talk about that. You got to make that pot. Yeah. Let's get it off.

He got to make that. He shot a 62. happened seven times. Everybody, I opened the internet, obviously, after this happened. All anybody saying is, what a loser, this guy. This is a three-foot putt to have the all-time record in a major. It's like, okay, there was 61 other shots here. You know, 28 of them were in the front. I mean, it is. Now he's in the lead and he has to sleep on that. Tomorrow's going to be tough.

Foxy doesn't have him in his little thingy. I don't know what he does. Okay, shout out to golf pulling through for us. Shout to soccer pulling through for us. Shout to NFL having teams. And let's talk college football now. Obviously, we are only, I think, six Saturdays or seven Saturdays away from college game day. Yes. Everybody tighten up.

We're tight, kid. Ready. Hey, fight camps, six, seven weeks. I think that's what we got. Yeah. Yeah. So maybe we do start trimming a little bit of the extra energy that maybe is sitting around some of us in here. Okay?

Maybe let's try to fit in our chair still after getting married in a courthouse, coming back off of break. We got a long football season coming up. Foxy, that's in your department. Yeah, Foxy, your department, multiple people in there have seemingly decided that their bodies can handle everything, and they're going to put that to the test.

I will have them in the Hawk House at 8 a.m. every morning with me, if that's what you want me to do. But I would like this all to remember, football season's close. We need to, we need to understand during football season, we're all going to become fat sos. Without a doubt. It's part of it.

Not this year. Well, no, I don't care. you do when it happens. I'm just saying we can't be doing mid-season Fatso before season even starts because then mid-season becomes Goliath heart problems. Yeah, you're right. So I'm just talking to us strictly and at home, you might be in the same page. We got about six, seven weeks here to really get into fighting shape so we can handle a football season of beating the hell out of ourselves. Because that's what we're going to do while we watch these incredible athletes and these magical teams try to become the next great story. Last year, Indiana Hoosiers won the national champion.

They in any other year could potentially win the SB for the best team of all time because just a few years back They're a worst team in the history of ball now they're national champions when you talk about the college football landscape Ohio State They didn't win it all last year by saying they're soft Christobal obviously he's gonna have to reload after a magical run How about Oregon what are they doing? Well Dante Moore comes back But are they ever going to be able to really go on a true run who's the kings of the big 12 now after everything that just happened down there in Texas Tech? Is that going to move up to the Mormon land and then how about the power of six, five, or whatever? Are they still getting automatic two bids to get into the tournament?

College football has so much magic that's about to take place six weeks from now. Let's make sure we're in the proper mindset. Ladies and gentlemen, what we get to do every once in a while on this particular program is be a part of history. This year, we get a chance to be a part of something that is not only good for sport, good for world, good for country, but also good for for. for our neighborhood. Yeah.

When did you start getting recruited, and how has this entire process been for you, and obviously your team around you? I really started getting recruited my freshman year, like, for the winter. I got off from Louisville and ever since then it just kind of picked up. I know I kind of always had the size. I just have to work on, you know, my craft and, you know, my team around me, my coach, my head coach, Coach Mal, Coach Ray, Coach Wilson, you know, they, they with me every day, they'll be on me hard, they don't let me take no days off. And it's been great, really. I kind of never thought it was

going to be like this, but it's a blessing. Yeah, there's no way you can ever expect to be this. And I want to let you know, I never expect the high school kid to be the topic of conversation when I'm going to CVS, too. It's not supposed to be like that, which means you're an abnormal person, man, which is a good thing. All the grades are abnormal. How's the work ethic? How's the love of ball? We appreciate the hell out of football. We enjoy it. What's your favorite thing about the sport and about your craft?

Ball. I mean, ball is really life. I mean, I wake up to read football. Every day. Sleep. Every day. Everything is football, really. My craft was really the most important thing about my craft is the little details. Not even just what I do. Just like, you know, everybody really looking at me.

I know everybody watching and see what I'm going to do. Just picking up on my effort, you know, every little thing. Well, it's a big day for a big name. Locking in the play in a big game. Family, you guys look amazing. How's the process been? The all-black Air Force is on this day. I mean, that is a message, you know.

Straight like that. I assume this process has been crazy for you all, though. Yeah. A whirlwind, I would assume. Could you just kind of describe it as we hit this point in the road that's very pivotal? But also the end, I assume, have a lot of chaos for you guys. But it's a good thing, not a bad thing. Yeah, I mean, it's just a stressful moment for everybody, man.

Everybody put a lot of stuff into this and to him and the process, man. I mean, that's just pretty much it, man. Well, we appreciate it. Yeah. Genuinely, and our state loves you, man. As you know, everybody is proud as hell that you are in the state of Indiana. Now, we do know that IU is one of the final five. obviously that is a crazy thing to think

that Indiana University is one of the final five for the number one rider receiver in the world. We're all kind of living in this world now. Texas, Sark, Arch. They're building, obviously. Roll tide. Kalan DeBoard and the board in the road. Ohio State.

Water receiver, you? Just three hours away. Yeah, but, coach. Yeah, he's not there. Yeah, okay. I don't want to sway anything, okay? I don't want to sway anything right now. LSU rounding out the five.

Obviously, Lane Kiffin, down there what he's building is special five schools well four schools that would always be in this conversation yeah an added school obviously in indiana that's going to be in this conversation forever uh if you just want to kind of let the world know where you're headed next i think there's a lot of fan bases that are eagerly awaiting the fact if they can get muncheon show time sales into their building and uh congrats all of you before you do this and good luck brother if you want to let the world know where you're headed uh first i want to thank god um This whole process, it's been kind of hard, but every night I just talk to God about it,

and he just helped me come up with this, you know. I talk to him every day. He's been the biggest, you know, part of my life. He's helped me come this way. He's going to help me in the future, too, with whatever I decided to go. Hell, yeah. I would like to thank my head coach, Coach Mal. Thank you, Coach Mal.

Go get that shit. Go get you one of these. I would like to think Coach Ray, Coach Wilson. All three of those guys, they basically, they. They be on me every day. They own me more than anybody. They're the best role models for the figures I can ever ask for. I like to think my teammates too back on.

My brother Carter, Noah, Justin, Des. Boys? Boys? Boyce. J.T. The whole township, really, y'all kind of put a lot into us. Y'all feed us every day. Y'all take care of us every day.

Y'all just be on us every day. Y'all make sure we got our education and everything. I want to say thank you to the whole Lawrence Township. and everybody that's been a part of the journey. With that being said, for the next three to four years, I'll be taking my talents too. I like that. Indian University.

I just got chills, man. I just got actual chills. I just got actual chills thinking about that, man. Just as I moved here in 2009. Yes, sir. Okay, in this state, obviously the Colts, Peyton Manning comes in here and makes full. football thing. You know, you know, basketball racing. I assume people have been around a lot longer.

Football wasn't really a thing. What Signetti and the boys have been able to do down there has ignited, I think, a fan base of basketball fans, of Hoosier fans all around. I think the largest active alumni in the United States of America and everything like that, the fact that the Indiana, I'm serious, I can show us, who knows where he's going, you know, whenever he comes up here. The fact that you're staying in Indiana, the amount of pride that this day is going to have while following you, and the amount of everything forever is incredible. Can you tell me why you picked Indiana other than the fact that you just wanted the state,

the township, the coach? Who's in a red hoodie there? One of your teammates who has the offensive linemen right there? The best cameraman in the city. Yeah, that's right. But can you tell me why Indiana? And thank you for doing that for our state, bro. Sure.

You know, Indiana was like my second offer, and since then they've just been pouring into me. I go up there a lot, and I talk about. Coach Sandy, Coach Eddie, and Coach Sig, they're my guys. I'm probably the best relationships I have with coaches. It just feel like home since day one, and I'm just ready to work. We love to hear that.

You know, Coach Sig and them, obviously, any team that's good, all the teams you put up there, they work their asses off, but they're also very much attention to detail. I think if Coach Signetti is interested in you, not that you're the number one one receiver, you're obviously interested in everybody, but Coach Sig likes a specific type of player. He likes somebody that's a badass that works their ass off, loves ball, but also is elite at what he's been able to do.

I think it's a huge nod of, like, respect if Coach Sig loves you. Tell me about your conversations with him, and then obviously Shanahan, as you're talking about, Coach Shanney, that offense and what you like most about it. Coach Sig is a straight-up guy. He's going to keep it real with you. He's not going to sit there and tell you what you want to hear. And, you know, coming from Coach Mal, you know, that's just what he built until me in high school. So it just kind of clicked instantly. You know, I don't want no guy that's going to sit there and tell me what I want to hear and just give me bullshit.

I want to work for everything. I just want it. How do you feel about this? You feel good? Brothers going to be about hour south, hour 15 south. You're going to have to go down there and have a good time. Sound good? You yawning in the middle of that was awesome.

Not nervous at all. Not nervous at all. What is it? What are you going on with this thing? Well, we're so incredibly thankful to you, your team, your family are staying in the state. We can't wait to watch you. you, thank you for letting us be a part of it. I think some of the boys might have some questions for you.

Go ahead, Conman. Yeah, aside from football, I mean, I was talking to earlier and I read about it, the track. Like, was there ever a thought like, hey, I should just go represent America and run track at the Olympics? Or was that kind of like, hey, he's going to feed into my football? To be honest, I mean, if you go to Lawrence North, you've got to run a track to play football. So it wasn't no if-if-answered bust about that. But, nah, I'm not running a track. It's different.

Speaking of Lawrence North, Olympic bronze medalist, four by four, Ashley Spencer, went to school there. Mike Conley Jr. went to school there. Greg Oden went to school there. And in about, I don't know, what, two years they're going to say, ladies of gentlemen from Lawrence North, Wildcat, Indiana Hoosier legend, potentially national champ. Let's go get another one. The state had a good time. That was a great time. Fun following that. Yeah, you're going to have to work your ass off for that. We're going to have a good time. And so we're going to need that.

I mean, he loves ball. He'll stick his nose literally in there at 6-5-190 is the number one wide receiver in the country. Very rare, are you going to be able to see him play on the defensive side? Very rare would anybody let him? Yeah, we don't need you to do that. He loves ball, his team loves ball, and I'll say this,

this city, this is literally right, it's like right there. This city... Like four miles away. The city loves this guy. And he's done it all right. if he wouldn't have went to IU, there would have been some real heartbreak. Definitely. There had been some real, real heartbreak out there from a lot of folks.

You talked about CVS. I got so many texts when the, because obviously, you know, at worst, we're so close to IU. My wife went to IU. Like, I got so many texts when they found out he was coming on the show. Like, they're very excited. Yeah, very excited. And a lot of the people seemingly knew that he was going to come on this show and do this before I did. Yeah, yeah, me too.

I mean, it was like three, two, three weeks ago, before. where we even go on break. Hey, Heard Munchin's going on your show to commit. I'm like, really? Is that real? Is that happening? They're like, yeah, he's going to Indiana, right?

And I'm like, I didn't even know he's coming on my show or whatever. I know like, yeah, yeah, it's happening. So I would like to say, just as a person that lives in this state, that's cool. Yeah. Yeah. Texas, Alabama, Ohio State, LSU, IU. And for some reason, it makes sense at this stage. The hell does.

But if you were to go in a time thing and go back six years, five years, four years. Three, yeah, yeah. Whatever it is, that would be the most insane thought. Ladies and gentlemen, joining us now, just as we continue to talk about college football, not about what just happened. Just college football as a whole national champion, head coach for the Indiana University, Hoosier football team, Paizano, Yenzer, Icon. Kurt Signate.

What's happening? Coach, obviously nothing specific just happened, but how do you feel about the culture and the team in which you're building? Obviously, national championship is something that the entire world sees, but there's a lot of work that goes behind that, and there's a lot of traits that you look for in players that end up coming to your particular program down there in beautiful Bloomington. What type of guys do you think you always look for, and what do you think you have going on in the future? your coach? Yeah, you know that Natty 16 and no hadn't happened in 136 years. Now how that team doesn't win a certain award as the team of the year, you know, but some networks are consistent in getting it wrong. No, it's not that network. Now it was fan pull. I wouldn't let you know, coach. I won't let you know. We were talking to Team USA's Kachuk and Charlie McAvoy. Team USA hockey,

both women and men obviously did some magical stuff as well, first time, long time and change the world. I found out day of Espe's that that was online fan polling. And I'll tell you, if New York's involved, I don't know if anybody's going to beat them. Maybe if you were there, Coach. But on that note, Coach, we were talking to your team. You're not beating them, and there's a lot of deserving teams. And that, you know, that obviously came from there. We mentioned this, though.

Your team, though. Yeah. What has happened and transformed in 16 and 0, not let alone 136 years in all college ball, but for it to be Indiana is absurd. But it's because you and your team and your team and your school. staff, which I know you have a lot of want to deflect for, but you guys bring in the right people. It seems like you very rarely get it wrong. Why do you think that is? And who are the type and what are the type of people that you're looking for to be Hoosiers under you? You know,

coaches and players, but players specific guys that love ball, love the process, want to be coached, have high standards, you know, they're tough. You know, they can handle the grind and they want to be great and do the things to be great. And, you know, the difference between good and great is just a special discipline, focus, relentlessness, and keeping your eye on the bull's eye. And, you know, smart guys also, not only talented guys, but smart guys. Because, you know, you got a lot of good players that are smart guys, they can do a lot of good things between the white lines. And your defense and offense last year was special to watch. We were very lucky to be a part of that entire run. And obviously, you know, obviously, you know, you know, and obviously, you know,

Obviously, we had seen it a little bit earlier than everybody else because we live an hour north of you. So we had been seeing it on local news, what you were building, and we're seeing the highlights, and we're seeing the work ethic, and we're seeing the buy-in before everybody else. I would like to say thank you because you guys made me look very smart. Okay, now I have eyes, and I saw what you guys were early, and I was a believer, not only in the team, but a believer in you. Okay, I was a believer in you at JMU. If I would have known you're at IUP, I would have been betting on their ass, too, whenever you were coaching them. but you have turned Indiana into just a common household college football brand.

We looked at there was a number one wide receiver that was going to commit. And who his teams were were all the obvious. Texas, Ohio State, LSU, Alabama, and then Indiana University is on there. And as somebody who got drafted here in 2009, is called this place home for the last 17, 18 years, whatever the math is. I don't know how to figure that out because do I count that first year? Do you not count that first year?

I've been here for almost two decades. That seems like a pipe dream. Can you tell me about the state of IU right now as a football program? First, maybe the first day you walked in, and how much more can we grow? What are the future look like for you? Well, we've taken it to the top of the mountain, so we've proven that we can get there. You've got to start over completely. I think we have a lot of work to do in fall camp, playing a 16-game season.

And, you know, we had a lot of guys out in spring ball, so we're anxious to get guys working together for the first time, newcomers, portal guys, returners. And, you know, I think every team you find out a lot about every day in fall camp and every game. So I think we got a lot of nice pieces, and that's why you play the games. And but that's every single year, regardless of what your record is. And we've got good people. coaches have been together a long time. I like the guys we got in a locker room. And, you know, we've been successful every year in the past.

And I don't see any reason why we can't be successful every year in the future. Well, I googled it and, you know, all right, I'm not forever. We'll put that one to bed in the past. You coming in there, though, and being so transparent with all of us after it all happens, and it end up working. I mean, this is Babe Ruth calling his shot. This is the founding fathers on July 4th, 1776, saying we're going to end up getting you. Calling your shot is fun if it hits.

But if it's kidding. But if it's done, if it doesn't work out, you're basically cast aside as the biggest dofess of all time. I've appreciated the fact that you've come out and you said, when I walk through that place, everything I was saying, it wasn't just like, for me, it was like, we need a mindset change around. What are we, we're not just participating. We were trying to win this thing. The buy-in from the school, president, AD, everybody has been magnificent. You signing a deal there to stay there when you could have went any NFL, college, shit.

If you wanted to coach Ozzie Rules football down there in Australia, they would hire you. They Ted Lassow your ass over in the Premier League. England now. Yeah, maybe even. Why did you decide to go ahead and say, this is my home? and you did a deal, I think, that activates something if somebody else signs a deal. Tell me why you think this is the place you can call home forever, as opposed to what some coaches would do, which is like, okay, now we head somewhere else.

I don't know. Maybe I'm a little old school. The grass isn't always greener on the other side. I really appreciate and respect the people that I report to and like them. I like the people in Bloomington. I think we have everything you need to be successful. My wife loves it here. which is important. Absolutely. This is sort of my creation at the end of the day. Even though it's not all about me at all, I get too much credit.

And if we stumble, I'll get too much blame, but I'll take the blame. But, you know, why go somewhere else? And we're happy as hell of it. And we still need to get diner and get the potting green? Yeah, tennis court. Absolutely. And the swimming pool now. I mean, the wife was working on a pool all summer long.

You got to see it. And that's the other reason. How could I leave the state of Indiana with a great fan and asset like you guys up there in Indy, huh? You tell me, actually, yeah, because there's a lot of people that kind of just cast us. I usually ask Marcello's publicist. Yeah, the host of that. Never mind. Let's move along.

We shall. You're number one. No, actually. You are. You're number one, coach. Yeah, you are. That's over. No, I think it, you're still.

Yeah, you still got a couple of months here. Yeah, you're still the guy. I think until the next national championship, actually. Don't let the boys think that, though. You can kind of walk around. We were telling your team, and we've been DMing all your players that, boys, everything that was accomplished last year, don't even worry about this year. Take it easy.

Go ahead and move along, you know. I know you're on them. I can't wait to watch your team this year. Tone has a question for you, coach. Yeah, coach, third straight year at IU, you're going to have a transfer starting quarterback. Obviously, what you did with Fernando and what Fernando did going from Cal to IU to win the Heism was unbelievable. Now you bring in Josh Hoover from TCU

has almost 10,000 career passing yards over 1,100 snaps. How important was it to bring in someone again with experience and experience running a similar offense for you in this team? And why do you think you have so much success with transfer quarterbacks? Well, that's been our recipe

really since 2019. Every guy's been kind of a one-year guy transfer. They've all been a player a year in the league. So since 19, with the exception of one, who was an incumbent, or a second teamer. But anyway, I'm not saying that will always be the formula.

But I'm not ready to like, if we find the right young guy one day that we think can help us win a national championship as a sophomore, let's do it. Because then you got him three more years, right? No, wrong. He's probably off to the NFL then. But Josh Hoover has won a lot of football games, thrown a lot of yards, a lot of touchdown. was asked to do a lot of things down there. You know, we run the ball, even with Fernando 60-40, and play great defense, great special teams.

So what we'll ask him to do, a little different than what he was asked to do before. And I'm anxious to see the kind of improvement he's made in fall camp. He can spend it. I watched him against UNC down there week one when we thought North Carolina tar heels were potentially going to this national championship. After one drive, you know, we were down there for that first drive. which is what Lombardi and Belichick are going to be trying to catch.

That's going to be what they're chasing for however long until they get there. But we watch Hoover spin it. That thing comes out real nice. That comes out real nice. And now that we've seen Fernando, that thing comes out real nice. Is that a huge piece of your evaluation? Because I said this earlier, but I mean it. I think you, I can say it, you're the greatest talent evaluator,

and I know you're going to say you have a team of it. You're the greatest talent evaluator that we have seen in this modern college football. You got a lot of places that spend a lot of money on a lot of players, and they don't work out. It feels like whenever you have gotten money from your IU alumni, which everybody talks about now, like IU alumni's in there. Yeah, but if you waste that money, that shit's not coming back. You have been able to kind of pinpoint what you're looking for, why you're looking for it. At the quarterback position, Hoover has a lot of similar qualities to Fernando that we have seen, including pretty ball. Normally, if you throw a very pretty ball, it's going to be accurate, normally.

That is kind of what it is. What else are you looking for in the quarterback position, you think? and why do you think your talent evaluation is what it is? It's just because you're from Pittsburgh and you know Ball and went to West Virginia? Well, they all have to have armed talent, be able to extend play, see the field, be a great competitor, and be tough. And, you know, we develop them, I think, only because we're smart. We don't have a magic wand. We try to give them a good run game, a good defense, and let them know every once in a while,

a puns a positive play. And, you know, they all build off early season. success and I expect Josh do the same thing. Talent evaluation, I can't really say much about that. You know, sometimes it's just a gut filling. I've been around a lot of good people. You know, my dad was a good recruiter, known as good recruiter. So I guess at a young age, maybe I was looking at a little bit. But a lot of coaches are great talent evaluators in our building. You know, it's team effort. And, you know, it's kind of like you're as good as your last game. You're as good as your last recruit, right? The first big bust I bring in, right? I won't be such a great talent

evaluator. I can't wait. We can't wait to be like, because obviously you'll be getting killed. Sick, made a mistake here. And I'll go, whoa, whoa, whoa, let's go back. Yeah. A lot of hits. Yeah. A lot of hits. You said there's a lot of good town evaluators in your building and a lot of good talent evaluators around the league. There's a lot of ass talent evaluators too. There'll be some buildings with college game deal get to walk in and I'll meet somebody. As soon as I shake their hand,

I think that's a turd for sure. How much should they pay that guy? Max, it's like, all right, make some interesting decisions here and I immediately go, I think this place in a bad spot. Whenever I meet your guys, even at the SPs.

Yeah. It was all sitting right in front of us. They were sitting right in front of us. Now I was supposed to sit at the end, some seat guys telling me sit down right behind Fernando, all by myself. I'm sitting with the boys. I'm not sitting by myself over here.

Oh, yeah. Can't be doing that. Should have probably sat behind Fernando, though, would have given them a big one of these, a couple of the... That entire game. But all your guys, you need to know this. Gentlemen.

Yeah. And also good time. Not like... Tight. Yeah, not a bunch of... Very tight group. And obviously, you'll have that national championship forever. I can't wait to see you guys celebrate that.

And let's get another one. Last question for us, obviously, at the top of the mountain, has some perks. And for us, it's good, too. Go ahead, Ty. Yeah, and I was actually shocked by this, coach, seeing it's how we kind of know you a little bit. you did the voiceover for the NCAA football, the new football, like the college football game.

And, you know, seeing as you're kind of a no nonsense, no bullshit kind of guy, I thought it was maybe a joke. But then, you know, you listened to it. And I thought you did an excellent job. What you were saying in it, though, was kind of talking about how in this day and age of college football, like every kid you bring in is looking for something different. How aware were you when you were doing that? like, oh, there's actually a chance, me doing the voiceover to this video game could have like a massive impact or implication on whether or not some recruits or transfer kids want to come to Indiana because you're kind of a forward-facing person on that game. Yeah.

Well, I mean, that's the reason we agreed to it. We thought it would be really good for the program or brand and recruiting because a lot of the guys play that game. So it was fun. It turned out well. and so I'm glad we did it. It was good. Hey, you nailed it. Actually, you nailed it. Voiceovers aren't easy because you're in a studio.

I assume you're in a studio on a microphone or maybe down an I. You don't see what's running behind it. You're not talking to a team, which you would normally be talking to. So it's literally like you're penning a journal or something like that. So bringing the juice and the delivery, not easy at all. And I want to let you know. Get crushed.

You nailed it. You were the only. only thing really part of that game that everybody was like good so coach we appreciate that we'll be down to see you soon hopefully tell the family we said hello and grazie for what you're doing in Indiana and potentially keeping Indiana's best players of all time in the state of Indiana you're the man for that go are you good a good ladies and gentlemen coach signetie I wonder if he knew no I doubt it right not right not he'll get informed, I'm sure, at some point today.

Yeah, because NCAA rules, he's not allowed to say names of anybody that does anything. Now, he can give him $10 million. Sure, sure. Of course. But can't say the name, though. Not yet. What type of players you like?

The guys are like ball. Okay, perfect. What about Munchon sales? Can he talk? Whoa, I don't know who. Who? I don't know what you're talking about. What are you talking about? Well, the NCAA, you're not allowed to say his name, but you can give him, I don't know, a whole building if you want.

You can't say his name, though. See, that's the shit. So stupid. Why don't they change that right now? Well, there's just so many things that are so stupid. But the NCAA, from our understanding, both talking to Charlie Baker and listening to them testify and doing other things, they're like, we can't do anything, really. But the cheeseburger, that does fall into our thing.

Saying a name before actual... That is our thing. all the new shit, we can't do anything because we'll just get sued. So I think the NCAA is like, can we get some assistance in like having some power where we can't get sued, which I think is this act that they're trying to put through so that the NCAA can be a governing body? Because now all the NCAA can really govern is all the bullshit that like we all think is so stupid. But if they do anything for any of the other stuff, they get sued and they can't do anything. So that's why I think all of us that, and we're saying us, but we do it because we're on a daily show and we pay attention to everything.

all of us that are kind of in it every single day are like, hey, there has to be... Got to do something. We got to get something going. It's not going to be perfect for both sides. Like even the people that are trying to make all the guardrails, like, hey, you're not going to get everything you want here. And then for the people that don't want it, agents,

mostly. And the players through the agents don't want and everything like that. Like what they want to restrict how much money we're going to make? Like what's that other? It's like, I don't think that's what they're looking to do. Will that be a ripple effect? potentially will there be better contracts and more money for more people potentially but that's every CBA negotiation that takes place for everything but it's like when you're in it every day there's just so

many stupid things that happen where it's like hey can we just we figure out something to take care of the stupidity because that that would be about 75% of the shit that needs to be it handled and then all the other stuff needs to take place on the outside but the NCAA is looking at us like okay yeah we'll do that we make a ruling on this this can't happen anymore and then six lawsuits come. They sit in front of a judge. The judge says,

actually, NCAA, you have no grounds to say anything. Like, sweet. What? This burger, though, is fun for the season. Yep, you can definitely do that.

NCAA, you can definitely showcase that you have some sort of power in that world. But in this whole new world, that is much bigger, grander, more important, and potentially more devastating to this sport,

you have nothing. So we just showcased one more thing that's like so stupid, but we need some sort of something. so we can get to the next step. But I think we're on our way there. Yeah, we are, and it's also wild. But with all that, I'm so excited to see Sig playing these waters now

because he's been playing in the under, not under talented, but guys that were overlooked. Yes, overlooked. And then, quote, unquote, overperformed. And he did a lot with guys that, you know, had the stats and everything in college versus, you know, maybe the potential. That was kind of his route. Now that he's getting five stars.

I can't. And it's weird. He's bringing in like obviously with Monshon out of high school. But Nick Marsh was a the wide out from Michigan State who's coming in was very, very highly recruited. He's doing it at certain positions mostly wide out and D.N. And I think those are probably the most important positions that have just absolute freaks at. But I'm excited to see SIG start playing in these waters. And they're going to continue to be good. Like they did lose some talent last year.

A lot of it on the offensive side of the ball, specifically with Mendoza. But they have like seven starters coming back on defense for with Brian Haynes, who that defense was absurd last year. They're going to continue to be very, very good. Yeah, that defense with Hainesi, they were on a string. Yeah. Actually. And we saw some of them at IU, or at the SPs, and they all had blockheads, too.

Yeah, they did that. That is something I think Sig does look for on defense aside. What's shape his head? Yeah. Does that face look like a fucking home plate or not? It does. All right. Now how does he play?

How much does he cost? Does coaches like them or no? Coach's like him. He's got the blockhead? Yeah. He's like football? Yeah. Who?

Who? Who's yours? I think that's what he's looking for on the defense aside. Yeah. But they all had to be smart too. Yes, very. Spagnola of the Chiefs,

a couple years back whenever the Chief's defense was leading the charge. Spagnola did an interview Super Bowl or a press conference, I think, where he said, normally on a defense, you have like three guys,

three, four guys that are really smart and have to, like, kind of guide the other guys. If you have a good defense, you have three, four guys that are kind of guide everybody. He had them all different levels. He said, our defense has 11 of those guys. All 11 guys.

Seattle Seahawks defense, Legion of Boom, 11 guys, all defensive quarterbacks, basically. They're all super super-s right. Very rare that you find that. Patriots for a long time. They'd have three different game plans on defensive side. You need super geniuses, all 11 positions. Sig's defense, Haynes' defense. Very much so. Very similar to that. Matt Patricia over there at Ohio State, very similar to that.

So a lot of people say, like, are the schemes, they were asking Matt Patricia, the schemes you were doing different than in the NFL oncology? He's like, not really. Well, then why does it look like such a different thing very? like, well, I'm giving a lot more freedom, but we need the geniuses out there so we can disguise and cover. And in college, it's very abnormal to have 11 because you're still learning ball. That defense last year was on a string. They were making checks without talking to each other.

They were seeing, they look like an NFL defense. Now, granted, they were a little bit older. Not that everybody they were playing wasn't older. But that is a huge deal that seven of the 11 are back there. Because if you have seven on the same page, four or not, that's still better than most other folks. nowhere near what they were last year, though. We're all 11. We're dancing at the same time. Everybody talks about Fernando, as we should.

More people should talk about Fernando. And Dan Rolovsky. How's that all going, Dan? How was that whole pre-draft thing going that we were talking about? Took his lap. Jayce. How does that kind of taking a knee on stage? Holy fudge, man. How are we sitting right there? The offense was certainly awesome.

Omar Cooper Jordan, Elijah Serran. I mean, we saw the boys literally the other night. Fernando, they all looked amazing. Offensive line one player of the game. Kugin one player of the game. game for the Rose Bowl. It's like they had two running backs that were just our I don't want to miss anybody everybody you hear what I'm saying. No Koski Riley no Koski the defense though was the reason why they gave like 10 points of game yeah the defense was the reason why they

won a national championship but also the reason why we people that knew Indiana from early in the season were like remember the Ohio State game that was just that was one of the best defensive games both of the ball that we've ever seen yeah and obviously Ohio State's defense has 11 guys or whatever go 10 guys go. This Indiana defense, when it's all of a sudden done, the number of people that were drafted as well, there's seven of them left, who knows what it will continue to keep track of it.

They were the reason why I was such a believer. Like, hey, yes, Oregon, should they beat Indiana? Maybe, in theory, they should. But from what I've seen, Fernando doesn't miss, Signetti's going to have a good plan, and the defense is real. First play. As long as they can,

exactly. And that becomes the entire story. And then third possession down in the, they four. to fumble. Like their defense, their defense won the Peach Bowl 10 minutes into the game. Yes, it was over. It's just, it was cool to watch them. And especially because we're in the state, you know, and obviously have a lot of ties to the Hoosers. My wife, obviously, her family, he's talking about your wife. It's like, Hoosiers are everywhere around here.

And they kind of weren't allowed to be loud other than a little five. We've got a good little five. What's the Midnight Madness thing they have? Yeah. A Middine Madness thing that's cool. Maybe there'd be like an old school Bobby Knight. trailer that will come out. Sure.

Good stuff. That's awesome. They didn't really have a lot to get loud about. You know, they didn't have a lot to get a lot about. Basketball team hadn't been there in a long time, even though they were certainly investing in basketball a lot more. Basketball coaches were just coming and going. Team never really represented what the state wanted it to represent as.

So IU fans were everywhere. Good boosers, good vibes, good businesses, and everything like that. This football team has ignited them all to be like, yeah, we are here. And that certainly helps in the NIO era. Certainly help. Yeah. And you brought up a good point there being a part of that game. That's a great idea. You want me to be the person that kicks this entire thing off?

Who plays this game? Who plays this game? Oh, every high school football player. All right, I guess I could. Connor asked lunch on before the show. He said, you game or anything? He goes, yeah, I play, I play NCAA. He's like, that's all I do.

So, yeah. Yeah, I think it's a pretty good little thing. And also the speech he gave, he wrote clearly. Yeah. And it was awesome. It was very good. All right, let's talk about some other things happening around the sports world. During the break, we all watched Michael Strayhan talk to Chris Johnson, C.J. 2K.

And I think we all, I was kind of blindsided by it. I think I didn't even hear the rumors. I guess there was rumors happening. And Chris's been on the show. Chris East Carolina saw him through there. Saw him at the Titans, obviously, in the AFC South. Chris and I, for some reason, we taught, like, we dab each other up before games. And I was such a huge fan with everything he was doing.

And you're talking about one of the greatest athletes of all. Like, they could ever exist. You're just like super explosive, super tough. Took a lot of hits. Got the ball. A lot. Was rolling. So whenever I turn on that interview, whenever I hear Chris Johnson, I was like very, I was intrigued.

Like, what is Chris Johnson up to? Like, I had no idea. We're on vacation too, kind of checked out. When I turn it on and I see him, like, oh, my man. I think we're all very devastated. I think we're all kind of dumbfounded by it, but we're also reminded about ALS in that moment, about how long ago was the first big one?

I think like in the 50s, 40s. Yeah, Lou Gehrig was in like, yeah, the early 40s. 40s, there it is, very public. Everybody talks about it. So from then until now, we still don't have any, and they're saying it's sporadic. 90% of the time it's just sporadic. So we don't have a lot of information.

I guess there's probably been a bunch of research. We don't have a lot of, still don't have a lot of anything. And I heard Chris's wife, I believe, say, we're still praying for a breakthrough or whatever. So I think that led all of us to be like, all right, well, how do we, you know, kind of, I think a lot of X NFL guys like, hey, how do we kind of help this entire thing? So obviously the Ice Bucket Challenge comes back. I said I was going to donate $250 for the next thousand people that do it, $250,000.

We're going to donate towards research. I hope everybody else jumps in on the CJ 2K Ice Bucket. challenge, ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, but I do appreciate the hell out of the Tennessee Titans. get a chance to talk to the absolute greats and the marvels of their sport, watching them hit big dogs. 75 in that first round was really nice. Yes, it was. Shout out to Jordan Walker come on on a program the day after. He's going to get paid a lot of money.

He's on the final year of his contract. He was making $799,000 this year. With the amount of games they have, he was making $1,400 a game. Pretty much. And then he wins $1,000. as he hit six straight home runs to wrap up Monday night's home run derby. It was awesome there in Philadelphia.

as the guys went off. Lucas Herbert and Sam Burns both shot 62s. There's only been 762s in major championship history. That is the record for lowest major rounds. Six guys in total. And those two both did it this morning. Herbert shot a 28 on the front nine, which is just absurd on pace for 56. And it was an unbelievable round. He's out of live. Not one of those guys that you would expect to do that. Sam Burns is more of the guy who you would expect to do it. He's top 15 in the world. He's placed high in majors, things like that. He actually hit his 62. He chipped out of the sand here of a pock bunka next to the green on 18 to shoot his 62. People are very mad because they only showed about three shots of his all morning long. Herbert is now your leader at eight

under. And you talked about these guys going low at 62. Yes, they did, but they didn't play well yesterday. So the leader Herbert is still only minus eight behind him. Cam Young is at minus six. He's shot back-to-back 607s. Scottie shit. Scottie's shitting on his horse. Scotty is shitting at 3 under today. He's off now. Rory had a nice little round to probably make the cut this morning.

There's still some big names up there. Scotty, I would assume, as I was looking right now, it's probably still your odds-on favorite. He is. He's plus 400, followed by Cam Young and Lucas Herbert, and then Bryson at plus 900 right now, your live odds. If Scottie's anywhere within five shots,

six shots, maybe even seven shots, he's going to still be your odds on favorite, so that's where they're sitting at right now. Okay, we've always been on Scotty and hope that we see Scotty of last year show up, which is just absolutely takeover Saturday and Sunday, and it's like a Tiger Woods type chase in the weekend. Might see some showcase rounds of golf this week. Yeah, they always talk about.

like, you know, the U.S. Open is going to be hard because of the rough and the tiny fairways. The Augusta is what it is. But the open, these courses are normally defended by the weather. They're defended by the wind and the rain and the fescue. The fescue, we've talked about it earlier in the week that the fescue is so dry and the course is so dry and the wind is not very bad right now. You can see it, but it's not like typical open wind. That the course is getable, even though eight under through two rounds isn't too bad. No, it's not too bad at all. If that's what the leader is? But if the bulls is, but if the The boys are starting to get the course a little bit more, and they don't have a weekend defense system.

Like, when I was in college, when I was at Iowa, I mean, same deal with AJ. He was playing against him. It was a little bit different. Because it was just, like, I was going to beat the shit out of these guys. Like, so we'll just go tailgate. Like, I'm not going to do all that. And, like, Dick said, like, they've been killing it through the transfer portal, but, like, this is kind of the broken seal. I could see his team jumping out maybe for a year or so, but like the fact that

Indian has been able to do it and a follow-up the way they did and 16-0, all of that, that's the most impressive to me. Yeah, and it feels like they're only just getting started. It's not another sick. That's the thing. It's like the money part of it, sure you could, because I think we talked about this with like Virginia. Like the dude who started Reddit. You know, he decided he wanted their women's basketball team to be good. So he gave a bunch of money and guess what? They were good the next year. But like the other part of that is like they have Kurtzignetti and no one else does.

Yeah, because I can already see it. Can't we all? College game day? Somebody went through Syracuse or Northwestern. This is how you do school TV thing. Who's this year's Indiana University? Who's this year's team that was the worst in the history of football that will go on to be the first undefeated football team since 100 some years ago? who's it going to be?

And it's going to be hard not just to be like, nobody. Nobody's going to be able to do that ever again. Football is such a game of so many key pieces coming together in being able to operate. And the fact that they have sick, I think that's a big deal. Sig will deflect, but you need the right one at the top. I'm not saying other schools don't have it. But to accomplish what they accomplish, you need a unique unicorn.

And I think just acting like... You need to pick right, though. Sorry, I hate to catch you off. You've got to continue to recruit the right. quarterback as well. That is a huge part. That's what Sig is very, very good at that. And when that quarterback's playing at a high level, you always have a chance to win it all. Which is why

I will kind of put a pin on this particular point. Just saying who's the next one, I think, is a pretty crazy expectation for anybody. Because talent evaluation is also part of it. Sig is the best. Motivation, Sig, seemingly,

one of the best. Like, people are talking about hiring him to go operate businesses because of the way he speaks. His leadership style where he delegates and doesn't really get involved too much. The drama, the expectation, the accountability. It's like, okay, who's the next one of those? I don't know. Who's the next fucking Michael Joel?

Who's the next serena? Is it fair to just assume that there's going to be a next whenever you're watching something that's never been done before? I have no idea. And it feels like that's what they did last year, going into the year because it was like, hey, Indiana, they made the playoff. They're not going to do it again. Who's going to be this year's Indiana? and now to all your guys' points, like Indiana has staying power.

Like, they're not going to compare. There's not going to be like who's the next Indiana. It's going to be like, who is the team that could possibly make a run? And it's, you know, you got a bunch of, you got a bunch of names up. there that won't be around on Sunday, but you've also got some guys like Cam Young, Sam Burns, DeCambeau. If Scottie could get some puss to fall, he could be right there in it, JJ Spawn one last year's U.S. Open. So you got some guys have got it done, but you got a ton of guys who haven't been in this position. Okay, should we see an electrifying weekend? I mean, regardless, it's a major. We should think that, but 60, back-to-back 62's here, and there's only been

seven of them done twice by Xander Schauffley. That sounds like somebody who wants to get a, you know, major on a Saturday or Sunday waking up and going like, are we going to see a 61 this weekend after we've already seen two 62s here? We should have saw 61 today. I mean, Herbert said he just, it was a five-footer. He had a great look at it. He said he had it going inside left and just misread it a little bit. But yeah, we'll see.

I mean, there's a, there's some guys up there capable of doing it. Burns, he didn't even decide to come until on Friday. his wife gave birth July 3rd and his agent just threw him in the field for the hell of it and said if he shows up, he shows up. The guy gets off the plane on Monday and throws up a 62 and shots 73 in the opening round.

Can he finally get his first major? Yeah, definitely finished second behind Cam Smith at St. Andrews in the 150th Open a couple years ago. He's had a great year, won the players early, picked up another win. I think he and Sam Burns and a couple other guys are probably the most talented golfers that haven't won yet

haven't yet won a major. He knocks it a mile like I talked about when I was on earlier in the week. Rory talked about that double-inch sword and the rough being so dry and so wispy, it's allowed some of these big hitters

to really cut corners and take advantage of it. I mean, we've seen Rory drive number nine twice now. I think he had a 377-yard drive today. and he didn't even think he was going to be able to hit driver on that hole. But, yeah, if Cam can make some putts, he's definitely going to be in it on Sunday. No, go ahead. I wanted to pivot to another American golfer that could potentially be in it that we haven't seen him forever.

I don't love not being able to just see two countries I didn't know exist play against each other in a sport that I very rarely watch and actually being invested in it. This World Cup has been spectacular for the sport. We talked to Reamer yesterday. Obviously, he wishes it would have went well. We all wish it would have went well. But now we're down to, you know, a third place game, which... The big deal. That sucks that they have to play in that.

They have to care too because there's a lot on lot. Reamer told us, you know, world rankings on the line. here. Obviously, a lot of pride on the line. A lot of these guys potentially, who knows, not Harry, and Mbapé and Jude and the stars, but who knows how many more international games, some of the World Cup games are going to happen. So obviously we want to win as opposed to lose. And then all eyes on Sunday, whenever we have Argentina in Spain. And that baby photo, obviously, from Yamaul and Messi, from the UNICEF thing 19 years ago is absolutely absurd. It is, it makes you question a lot of things, actually,

whenever you go forward, but we don't need to do all that. What are you looking forward to this weekend? How should we be viewing both games? And World Cup as a whole, how has it been for you? So just kind of open canvas here for you to kind of paint the picture for us on what we should be looking forward to here this weekend. Pat, you started out playing soccer, so did I. And basically we tried to make it to the World Cup,

and obviously we did it. But, like, seeing that picture doesn't make me feel so bad because I was not bathed by, you know, Ronaldo or, or Maradona when I was, when I was three years old. Or McBride or Alexie Lawless, Tony Miola, Kobe Jones, you know? I mean, it makes you wonder, there's so many questions here with why and how and what's going on in this picture. But I guess it's true. I mean, that's what they're telling me that it's true.

So we'll see. It's the greatest of all time. I've upgraded Messi in my, you know, lifetime standings to the greatest of all time above Maradona, above Pele, above R9 for sure. I mean, R9 and definitely above Chris Arnold, if he even makes the top five

these days anymore. The third place match, I'm not even watching. I got better things to do. It's going to be a kick-around, waste of time. And the final, though, will be one of the greatest games

we've seen in a long time. And it will also be probably the most watch sport in this country and all over the world that day well into the billions. So ultimately, this country,

America, has done a great job putting FIFA and putting this tournament on a very high platform, and they delivered in a high way. So really proud of that, obviously, because there's a lot of murmurs that we're not going to do a great job, but we did do a great job at it. And now just looking forward to this unbelievable matchup in Spain, Argentina.

Tell me a little bit about this matchup. Obviously, if England was to get in there, that's bigger, you know, a little bit bigger lads, naturally, I think, from just where they come from. That's kind of how it's going to be. A little bit more physical game. Should we expect that from here? obviously Argentina was with the shits too with England

they weren't just like you know scared they were actually hitting England a little bit kind of big tree fall hard kind of chipping away at them Spain not really like that right Spain is we're passing we're flopping we're dancing we're doing that type of stuff how should we expect this game to go and if you're AJ Hawk football meathead who has start to really like soccer going through this World Cup is he going to hate what he's going to see on

Sunday because like people that aren't super soccer purists, maybe don't love that style of play? What style of play should we expect, do you think? Gerella? Let's start at England since we started the conversation with England. Let's start there. I came out and said England are not going to be very good. I don't know how they got to the semifinal.

Just like Los Angeles, I caught a bunch of heat from that. You know, it's a shame because I think as an American speaking about soccer, and they don't really know that, you know, I grew up very Italian in my household. They just right away, write you off. But I called the England from a long way away. And, you know, in this game, when you analyze it, you got to have a good nose and good eyes. You know, you've got to see well and you got to smell good. And I knew England were never up to the task to stop in Argentina. Argentina, by the way, are a bunch of Pisans, Pat. There's

20 million of them down there. Half of the team's Italian. Leo Messi's got some Italian blood in him as well. Leonardo. Leonardo. Leonardo. Nice clay, Borella. Hold on. How many, well, the Italians didn't even make tournament? Cape Verde has got 10,000 people. Yeah, Cabo Verde. That's what I'm telling you, Pat. The half of us are in. We're in the final, actually. We made the tour. Well done, Grella. Oh, because we're taking,

we're taking Lou Messi as an American, too, because he's on Inter-M Miami. So if the Italians are claiming them and the Americans are claiming them, it sounds like we're normally on the right side of winning, right? Isn't that kind of what? No, actually. Actually, the Italians have got a good, big

history. Yeah, they kind of had their hands tied for a couple of those. Yeah, nobody talks about it. In a way. Anyways, let's move on to the Italian-American Argentinian team. Okay, that's coming along. Yeah, so the Argentines, They're like brawlers, man. They're tough guys.

They're dogs. Would you compare them to the Ravens, like, back when the Ravens were really good under Ray Lewis, like, just like really physical, powerful, really street smarts? With the football, they're not great. They don't have a lot of pace. They don't have a lot of big names. The biggest name and the wild card, which just so makes it really hard to analyze, is Leonel Messi.

At 39 years old, I had him downgraded coming into this tournament. What he's done now is just blowing everyone's minds. I mean, the details and what he does. when he sticks his ass out and knocks cane over, it's like top level stuff. So he kind of puts them in the conversation. Everything's gone through him. All the assists, all the goals. I think he's got eight goals and 11 assists in the tournament.

So directly, you know, four assists in the tournament. So directly impacts the game. Spain, you may not like the way they play if you're neutral. There's a lot of intricacies. There's a lot of complexities in the way that they play. they're kind of a suffocating team. They take their time with you. It's kind of like a death by 1,000 paper cuts where, you know,

Argentina will be more rock and roll. I have Spain as the overwhelming favorite in this one, unfortunately, but then again, then there's Leo Messi, and this guy's an alien. He's from another place. We haven't seen anything like him. We won't see someone like him for a very long time. And, you know, compare him to Yamal, who's on the other side of this,

like he's supposed to be his predecessor. He's supposed to be the next best thing in the world. He's got one goal this tournament. Right? So that's sort of the comparison, you know, eight golds versus one. He's sort of been a piece in the Spain team where Messi has been the entire Argentina side. So this is going to be really interesting. You see the odds there really, really close, but Spain are a little bit more polished, Argentina a little bit more of the back alley brolers.

You just talked about a guy who, I think if you're not a regular soccer watcher or whatever, you're not going to know because he's so young. And obviously, I think we saw him in the euros maybe when he was 17. We watched him and he kind of came on to the scene. I was like, holy hell, this is the guy. And then now, you know, coming into America, there was a couple of different streets down in Tennessee or whatever they shut down to see him.

Now, he could walk through a Walmart, nobody had a clue who he was. Yeah, right. Okay, so all these soccer fans doing the biggest, okay, I understand that they're very famous. They come through Indiana. They can walk right down Broadway, which we don't have, could walk right down.

Meridian. Yeah, the canal. Whatever. What's the broader? That place is dead. We need to bring that place back. Yeah, well, not safe. Okay.

That doesn't need to be broadcast. To walk right through there with a name thing above them. And people would be like, oh, hey, welcome to America. Must be like a foreign exchange student or something like that. You know, so there is a lot of that. But I do think even those people have been tuned in to watch these games because how spectacular they. You talk about the amount of people watching it. Soccer has done really good stuff.

here in America during this World Cup. Obviously, Team USA having success in it, but all the stars playing well, seemingly huge for any sport, and the 19-year-old has become a sensation, but what have we been seeing, Ty? Yeah, girl, listen, I mean, I've heard all the song and dance

about you mean Lamall, and I've seen him, you know, courtesy of Gump, I've seen so many of these highlights. Like, he is unbelievable, but I've come away from a lot of these games, feeling like we've been sold a false bill of goods, because he just doesn't do a goddamn thing.

He's not putting the ball in the back of the net. On the other side, you got Lou Messi. That son of a bitch is either going to score multiple times or he's going to have multiple assists in every game. And that's not even getting into how long. Yeah, exactly. Listen, if you're going to walk around, that's okay. Right.

I didn't know this many people walked around. And by the way, you know me as a kid, Blame. I should have been doing that a long time ago. Probably. My knees would be much better if I would. I mean, I was 200-some pounds in high school, you know, so that's a heavy soccer player. I should have been walking everywhere.

I didn't know that was an option. You know, I didn't, I had no one. The best players in the world, walking all over the place. But Hollande walking his ass all over the yard, score. And then they finish. Messy, walking all over the place, doing everything. And then he finishes. Your mom, watch this guy walk.

I'm like, he's 19. He's just walking around everywhere. And then it's like, well, we haven't seen him really put together maybe. Exactly. Because Gumpy has been saying that he has been hurt, and now it's coming out that he hasn't been in training the last two days. How big of an impact will that be if he's, I mean, who knows what percent he is in terms of playing on Sunday? But if he's not full go, how much can that kind of turn the tables maybe in Argentina's favor?

It does a lot because, and I agree with you for starters. He's been overwhelming. He's coming to the tournament with a little bit of an injury, but no excuses he's here. Spain is undefeated with him in the lineup. I think it's like 37 games or something like that. So think about that. He has never put on a Spain jersey and lost when he's there. So he does affect the team, although he has been underwhelming with one goal.

Hey. Yo. This is the greatest player of all times. No. No. He was in a little bathtub with Messi 19 years ago. Yeah, they do. What do you think of him as a player, Grella?

So we cover him all year in the Champions League. and he's blowing my mind with some of the stuff he does. And you guys all know this, even in football. The most, the biggest superstars are the most efficient players, right? The ones that don't run, the one that understand the spaces, the ones that don't turn over the ball a lot. They understand risk reward. Yamals, he turns it over a lot, especially this tournament.

So he tries things and it doesn't work, and he's been, he hasn't had that extra step that he usually has. So he's looked like a regular player a lot of the time where, like, if you watch Messi, there's no fat on the bone. Like, there's nothing left on the bone. Like, he's, it's so clean and it's so smart. So he's not at that level yet. But, you know, when he burst on the scene and won the euro,

I think we were chatting actually on the program, like, two years ago. And we were talking about Yaman. He was 16 years old, and he blew our mind. So he is coming in with a little injury. It's been overwhelming. But without him, Spain or not as good, I'm sure. I'm 100% sure he'll be there because there's a lot of money on the line. Even if they should have to shoot him up for the weekend.

FIFA themselves would shoot him up. So he'll be there. Messy will be there, and it's going to be fireworks. You know, FIFA, from our understanding, fair and square. Yeah, I thought it's right down in the middle with everything. Guy gets a red card. Let's talk about it. No, he didn't actually.

He's got a lot of world leaders he said that he's friends with, you know, in this particular I heard the response. I heard the response there. But if Belgium would have had one of those overturned here in America, there's no way that game's taking place. I would have never watched soccer again.

We would have been so mad. I'm watching some of the shit that's happening in the VAR, them just going back in time. It's like, actually... The Egypt one was insane. And the person goes, what? How about the one with the chip in the ball that knocked out Croatia? They said that the chip in the ball detected

that touch of the hair. And then the other night, it hit the line of the sky cable, of the sky can. And they're like, no, it didn't detect anything. What a load of bullshit. No. No. Remember, we benefited from this stuff.

So we like it right now. But if I was anybody else in the world that got screwed over, by the way this whole soccer thing works, I could see there's some pissed off people around the globe. Maybe a billion of them. Hey, Pat, what did you think of the U.S. game?

Oh, yeah. Yeah, like what you're going to do right now, I think is probably a pretty, hey, good to see you, super excited. And then all, well, actually, I don't know with how it goes in your, but I think in our world, it'll be a little bit of a, now you get a second time of letting them go, you know, as like, yeah, but a bunch of kids, my kids don't generally don't, but some kids like, they cry, it's hard. They always plan something like really awesome after the parents leave. They're just waiting for the tube socks.

Let's talk about the weekly wrap-up with Rap Sheet. Camaro gets the deal down in New Orleans. It felt like he was very persistent about never leaving. They bring it obviously running back, A. Chan. Yeah. What's the name? Travis A. Chan from the Jaguars. Yeah. Did we say his name?

It was at the end. He changed it to A. Chan. Okay, yes. Okay. So I went right there. Thank you. That was months ago. Yes. He comes into New Orleans as a great running back. And we all go, ooh, what does this mean for Kamar? Everybody gets excited for the opportunities for Kamar because of how dynamic he is as a player.

and Kamara came out many times. It was like, nah, I want to be here, I want to be here. They get the deal done. Why do you think this was so important, Alvin? And what does this mean for the Saints? Two things here. One, I thought it was a pretty good deal for both sides, right? Like, you sort of wonder, is one side going to be really dug in?

And the Saints going to say, like, you know, we want to kind of hold you over the barrel and not pay you very much. As Kamara going to be like, I want 10. Good compromise. You know, he's obviously an older running back going to be third. the market for these guys has really come back. And it's actually been cool to see. People are willing to pay for running backs now because they sort of realize they can be difference makers.

And like, if you're a veteran like him, you could do two things. You could say like, all right, I want to be on a playoff team. A lot of guys do that. Or you could say, I want to stick with my team and win. And like, where the saints, we'll see. But where the saints are now, they could be good. And so he could be sort of like the final piece to a really good team would be an awesome, awesome way to end a really, really good career.

All right, Rap. What about there's a lot of other, like, you know, veteran free agents who have still yet to sign, notably Stefan Diggs, Debo, Samuel. There's a lot of other ones at other positions, but those two wide receivers, maybe the biggest names out there left, Joey Bosa, if he's going to play football or not. When do we expect, are we waiting for camp for these guys to sign? Is there any indication that one of these guys are going to sign before camps open in the next week? How do we feel about some of the guys that are still left?

on these lists. Diggs could. I mean, look, if you're a veteran like Stefan Diggs, and actually a lot of the guys on the list are sort of in the same boat, where it's like you've been through camps, Diggs is going to be in great shape. This year, instead of, like, as opposed to, like, last year he's come back from the ACL,

didn't really get to do the, like, speed and, sort of explosion training that he usually does, is doing it this offseason. It sounds like he's doing really, really well. But he doesn't need camp. So he could wait. he doesn't get the right deal. But, like, it certainly seems like he's talking to four teams.

It certainly seems like he's got enough interest to sign. And, you know, you would think of, like, the good sort of playoff caliber teams that he would, you know, potentially sign with. But for a lot of the other guys, it's like, you know what? You've waited this long. Like, the, what's a good example? Najee Harris. Sure. Right?

Like, he, you know, visited a couple of teams. I think it was Seattle and the Raiders, right? If I remember correctly. you know, got some potential numbers there, but he could also say, you know what, I'm going to wait for a running back injury and maybe get a little more. Like, that's kind of the time of year

where it is where free agents want to sign, but like sometimes waiting, getting a few extra dollars can help. All right, anything we missed that we did not bring up that needs to be talked about from the NFL world this week. You know, the Aaron Donald stuff is really interesting. Like, my sort of, In inclination at the beginning of this was like nothing, not a big deal.

But like, it sounds like he's really training to see. Like, he's been, you know, I don't know if you guys follow him on Instagram, but he is pretty jacked. But to get in football shape is a little different. So it sounds like he's going to get in football shape and then see. And like, this is a really intriguing possibility. I mean, adding Aaron Donald at 35, I know, but still. incredible. Like, Rams are on it. This is an interesting one to keep watching.

Yeah, I would think so. And I hate bringing this up because we love them, senior. We assume, actually, forget that. I know that if Aaron Donald comes back, he's playing 50 snaps a game. This is not a, this is not a farewell tour, wrote tour. This is Aaron Donald football. And any mic'd up I've ever seen or any film I've ever seen of Aaron Donald, a part of Aaron Donald is not just the plays where he's getting a pressure.

It's also the Check 99 plays that are coming from every offensive line. And you know, Miles Garrett, everybody's like Miles Garrett will get the double team. Miles Garrett will get the double team. Okay, I agree Miles Garrett. If Aaron Donald's anywhere near Aaron Donald, they're going to be sending two to Aaron Donald as well. I mean, this is not a, and that's been happening for what, eight years?

Nine years or whatever. So, I mean, this is, I think Aaron Donald, me personally, I do not talk to him on a regular basis. I believe he's coming back, okay? I believe that from the first text where he didn't shut it down immediately. It's like, oh, if he's even thinking about it, that means he's probably doing it. What he's trying to figure out, he's trying to eliminate all self-doubt that he can't come back and absolutely murder right now. I need to see what a workout looks like at the facility. I need to go hit some of this.

I need to do this. Training camp's going to probably be big. if he comes back for him mentally like hey I got to make sure I'm still the one you know because it would probably my guess would be probably in the middle or laid into training camp like that's what it sounds like to me

but if he does come back because like he's going to want to spend this time by himself doing what he needs to do the football stuff he can kind of get as we get a little closer that's my guess I would assume that he's going to be a fucking monster when he comes back

There is going to be... I'm thinking there's not going to be a single... Like, maybe two games, but then as soon as he gets back into it... Because remember, he's, I think, smelling salt. Every time he's miced up, there's, like, him either talking to himself or somebody else. Like, he is a killer. The guy is an absolute... His engine is never-ending.

I don't even know what he would do if they were to be rotating him out. Like, on the sideline, what would he be doing? I don't even know. He probably just wouldn't. Yeah, exactly. Like, I'm good. I'm good. So I think he is just trying to figure it.

AJ, is that what you think, too, as a person who's a freak. AJ Hawk, also freak athlete. We have to remember that. And I'm not saying he's in a conversation for greatest defense player of all the time, but certainly nominated for college football Hall of Fame, but white dude running 4-5, 4-4 at 240, 40, like, AJ, one of the greatest freak athletes of all time. Aaron Donald, still going to have that in there, right, AJ?

You just think he's trying to figure out whether or not how much it is? Like, what do you think he's trying to gauge right now in this whole thing? I think he's just trying to get in, like, in football shape. you're going to, if he feels healthy enough to say, yeah, you know what, I think I might come back. Let me go see how I feel, put myself through some rigorous workouts. I absolutely think he's coming back. If he's not hurt, if he doesn't have some, like, weird lingering injury, he feels like that would slow him down.

Why would he not come back? If you're going to at least take the steps he already has, yeah, I expect him to be on the field, and it's going to be, think about if he comes back, like, two weeks into camp or something, think of the juice it's going to bring camp too for everybody. Coaching staff, players, everybody is going to be, like, rejuvenated. But all Aaron Donald's thinking is about a new offensive lineman that hasn't faced him what he's going to do to him in the first place. You know, like everybody else is going to be juiced up, but all Aaron Donald's going to be thinking about, I think until then is like, am I the same guy? And then he's going to be doing things.

And I wonder how quickly it's going to be like, yep. Come play. I still got it. I think he, I don't think it'll take it too long. Just hit the sled a few times and say, yep, I still got it. All right. And McVeigh here, coaching-wise, motivation-wise, you know, it's not just X's and O's. it's like reaching, you know,

Jimmy's and Joe's. Yeah. Like him showcasing to Aaron how he's better than he was before actually will be fun. Like, hey, we actually got to read on the sled. And this is you from three years ago. This is you,

like those moments are all huge, I think. Like literally, Aaron doesn't want to come back and be seen as anything less than what he's already known as, which is one of the greatest of all the time. That's a tough, like Aaron's not telling us this. I'm just trying to think for him

as he was like, as he's going through this, it's like, that's something too. That's a constant pressure of like, hey, you're considered the greatest football player of all time in some circles. You know, that's a lot of pride in that. You've had an incredible career. Now you're coming out here.

It's like the people want to see it. You've got to deliver. No matter what your age is, no matter how long you've been out there. The expectation of Aaron Donald is that he takes over games. That's the Aaron Donald fucking way, basically. I bet you if they weren't going to Australia
