On today’s show Pat and the boys are live from Saint Vincent College in Latrobe PA with the Pittsburgh Steelers having their first full padded practice from training camp. Pat and the boys hilight the town of Latrobe and give their expectations of the upcoming NFL Season. Pat gets into the biggest sports news of the past weekend coming out of the MLB, as star pitcher Tarik Skubal has been traded to the Dodgers and ruined professional baseball. Pat takes the show camping around the AFC North bringing on Bengals beat reporter Ben Baby to talk about the Bengals expectations going into the 2026 season. After talking to Ben Baby, Pat brings on Daniel Oyefusi live from Browns camp to give the progrum boots on the ground perspective of the Browns QB battle between Shedder Sanders and Deshaun Watson. Joining Pat and the boys live is 2X Super Bowl Champion with the Pittsburgh Steelers Brett Kiesel talks his experiences at Steelers training camp and the differences between today’s era of football. Heading over to the Ravens camp Junior NFL Reporter Ian Rapoport checks in with pat and the boys and lets us and the live crowd of Steelers fans the vibes from Ravens camp are high. Pat and the boys bring us around the whole NFL showing at least one hi light from every NFL teams training camp. And the saint is here. A Trobe, Pennsylvania, the home of the Pittsburgh Steelers training camp for 58 seasons now. We had no idea how this is going to turn out. We're talking torrential downpour in storms yesterday. The fact that the baseball team here at St. Vincent has allowed us to take up some spots in their outfield. We are very grateful. We are going to be chit-chatting about ball being all the way back and absolutely beautiful. It's the first day of pads here in L.

Laetrobe, Pennsylvania for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now, there was a lot of question marks because Mike McCarthy came out and said, I'm not tackling. Like, we're not tackling. So the injures said, oh, the injure said, yeah, this guy's from Pittsburgh. He's got a yinzer accent. He loves Pittsburgh. He's living with his parents back home again, actually.

But since he's gone to Green Bay in Dallas, this guy's gotten a little bit soft. That's what the Pittsburgh people say. We're not tackling. So then Mike McCarthy says, hold on, ma. I didn't say this wasn't going to be a physical football camp. It's going to be a physical camp, but we're not taking guys down to the ground. With our roster right now and where we're headed, we feel very good.

And I think the physicality is going to show today. I think Mike McCarthy is about the details, the attention, the accountability, you name it, and the boys are going to want to bump and thump, especially for the lads who have shown up to watch them. Now, this fan base is a diehard one. They're invested in every single second, every single move, every single decision. Whenever the Steelers win, this city's happy. Whenever the Steelers lose, this city is not.

It's been winning seasons for the last 18 years, but it hasn't really felt like a Super Bowl was within the grasp. Is a first dear Pittsburgh Steeler head coach, Mike McCarthy going to be able to do it, with Aaron Rogers coming back. T.J. Watt coming back. With Cam Hayward coming back. Friarmouth, Boswell, you name it.

There are names that these Jensiers have known and come to love over the years. But have they won a Super Bowl for Pittsburgh? No. Is Mike McCarthy the guy that can have them do it? We shall see this season, and it all starts today. First day of pads, as that horn just blew down on field one, we'll have a two-minute operation happening in the one o'clock hour. There's good on good taking place, not just here, but a lot of places around the NFL landscape.

Football is all the way back, and for that, we will celebrate the shit out of. We'll tell you that. We'll be going around the entire AFC North today. We'll be talking to reporters in Cincinnati, and that guy's got an orange shirt on. Guys got an orange shirt on. It's for Bullskin, a 10-U baseball team out of Connellsville. They won the entire thing.

We're an orange zone is tough because not only is that Cincinnati, but also we'll be visiting with reporters in Cleveland, Ohio. And then obviously, I will say, now you are taught to think that since birth here in pittsburgh and in cleveland it's the same for pittsburgh but the team that used to be in cleveland actually moved and we'll be live with ian rapaport live from bultimore ravens we don't know i've heard that guy uh pat fryermouth obviously the other day saved a child from a scrum amongst yinzers and i'll tell you it was indicative of everything that this

could possibly be pat friarmouth being a superhero couple yinzers getting excited and then one helmeted yinzer speaking to both parties very loudly and clearly through the camera. But this is not just happening here in Pittsburgh, or in La Trobe. It's happening everywhere. And today should be fun as we bounce around. We'll also have Coach Mike McCarthy join us after practice. Aaron will join us. T.J. will join us. Cam will join us. Omar Khan, the general manager will join us. Brett Kiesel will join us. And of course, and of course, correspondent for the Pat McAfee Show for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Mark Koboli will be be able to do that. Biggest pop. I don't know if they booed them or not. I feel like we're going to learn a lot

The toxic tables here at Boston Connor and at Ty Schmidt. Conman, it always feels good to get back into football. It feels like this might become an annual tradition of us starting to feel it for the first time. Last year, whenever we came here, they had to set up on a hill a little bit. It was a dangerous situation. There's people following. We move over here to the baseball field. Tarrantial downpour yesterday.

Shout to the baseball field. Shout to people coming hanging out with us. But last year, whenever we watched practice, it was after our show. Now it's happening during our show. We were kind of surprised by the lack of juice that was kind of out there. taught, training camp, everything's terrible. Feels like the building, though, from what we've heard, new fresh voice in there, not that it's a knock on Tomlin,

but anytime there's a fresh voice, fresh ideas, everybody kind of has a little fire lit up under their ass, con man, that's what it feels like here with the Steelers. Yeah, 37 days of NFL football, you mentioned, but we talked to Mike McCarthy all year last year. I mean, he might be in there quoting Galileo like he did. The things that he's probably saying the new kind of angle at everything's fantastic.

Pats or pads, it feels like no matter what, there will be some sort of juice, but I know the fans brought it. I mean, we're walking down to the set today and some kid tells me right away, boom, you don't know ball, okay? You don't know anything about football. I thought that was fantastic. A couple people saying take the hat off, that's never going to happen.

But it is wonderful because you can feel it. You can almost smell it. I don't know what it is. But being in La Trobe of Football Time for a Football Time, if that makes sense, of course, thank you. It does just feel fresh. It feels new, and I just can't wait for 2026. Shout out to Sharky's last night.

And then again, Sharky's a man. making an appearance this morning. Also stopped by Eaton Park, got some smiley cookies. Love everything about that. We got their 1056. Okay, plenty of time. Yeah, Cheyenne opened her back up for us. We obviously very appreciative of that. It does feel like ball is back. You talk about having a Patriots hat on. I saw a German man traveled in here with a Green Bay Packers. Jersey on as well.

So, you know, football is being represented well. Ty Schmidt, the Packers, look to win it all this year. Were you surprised to see the German fellow wearing the Packers jersey out here or no? I was. I'm going to be honest. No, yeah, definitely, definitely. You know, but again, we're trying to grow the game. You know, we got international football more than we ever have before.

And I don't know. I think he's kind of just feeling how I am. Listen, I don't want to put a damper on anything the Steelers are doing here because I love coming to the Trope. I really do. And it's crazy how you mentioned it. It feels like we were here like two years ago. I mean, it feels so long.

It's been right around a year. It's crazy how much can actually change in a year. A lot of similar faces. But, you know, I mean, it feels like a completely new football team. I'll tell you what I really do feel like this is the Packers year. I'm sorry to Steelers fans. Maybe we'll see you guys in the Super Bowl. But I love what I'm seeing out of camp so far.

I'm sure Steelers fans do as well. But I really do feel like this is the Packers year. And I'm sure that German fellow does as well. He said, good and talk. I said, I'm gross biota, and then I told him to go on and flukzoic is way out of here. Sure. This is Pittsburgh Steelers training camp. Speaking of that, let's go to one half of the hammer.

Dahn! Oh, they hit it, Cowboys AP Tone. Tone, great to get back and see the Steelers. I saw you, you're kind of neb-nosing all around this morning, trying to get a little bit more information about what's going on with this team. What have you learned? How do you feel? And how exciting is it to be back here at Steelers Training Camp for you?

Yeah, obviously, this is my job. This is my profession, but at heart, I am a Steelers fan. So, yeah, I was neb nosing around. I was watching the walkthroughs earlier. I was watching the offensive defense. Not a lot of special teams going on out there. Christian Coons was being a little bit lack of day school.

Wasn't working very hard. He's the only snapper in camp, too. Pittsburgh legend, Chartier Valley, Duquesne. I think he's got some records at Duques. Yeah, he leads an all-time leader in Sacks at Duquesne University. And he's a long snapper for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Beast. Dog has a great accent.

A lot of pizzazz. Good moxie. A lot of pizzazz on this guy. But I was just taking it all in, because while I was taking in, the hair was standing up my arms. It kind of feels like Seven is coming home this year. And I'm not talking about Ben Rosserberger because he decided to make this his home. I'm talking about the Seventh Lombardi Trophy coming home this year. The detail that Mike McCarthy is developing in these guys this year.

I don't know what you wanted to do that. It's unbelievable. Big Mike came home to bring Seven home, and I'm pretty sure that's going to happen this year. It feels like it around the building. There's obviously a lot of good vibes, a lot of new vibes. And if you look at coaches and quarterbacks who have been paired together and wins, you know, obviously you think Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes, that's unbelievable. You know, Mike McCarthy, Aaron Rogers, only have 107 wins to go.

Pretty good. Mike McCarthy comes back to Pittsburgh, obviously. They don't want to do a full rebuild, so they don't go with a young coach. They don't try to fire everybody. They don't have to do that. They like their team. Mike Tomlin decides to step away after 18 years, an incredible run. Mike McCarthy comes in here. Aaron Rogers, is he going to stay?

Is he not going to stay? Well, he came out and said his wife said he's allowed to have another year. And Mike McCarthy certainly helps the entirety of it all. He knows the offense inside and out. He loves the offense inside and out. They got weapons. Darius, I know that we're obviously very heavy here, Steelers at the beginning,

and we'll certainly show highlights from all around the NFL here in a matter of moments. But why not the Pittsburgh Steelers? That really is a question that I'm starting to ask myself as I'm here. Whenever I wasn't here, first year, coach, I mean, the AFC tough, especially with Daniel Jones back healthy. Sure. And Indianapolis.

Steelers fans are scared to death of the Indianapolis Colts. I know that. That's never come out of anyone's time. I know that. Yep. I know that you guys have nightmares of the horseshoe running wild. They beat us by like 50, 60. A lot of who.

Yeah, it was a bad matchup for us. Also, we don't know what was going on like before. Maybe somebody with some yins or antics were potentially taking place with our team. Who knows? We all know that Danny Smith had Antonio Brown out there to return a point. with four minutes left, up 28 to 7. So Steelers may be unethical ball there for a little bit against the Indianapolis Colts.

But as we get here and we start remembering what this Pittsburgh Steelers team can be, who they can be, nine-year NFL vet, Darius Jay Butler. It's hard not to get excited about this team, actually, defensive side as well. Absolutely. You always start with the quarterback, head coach, your quarterback, and obviously you got a chance with Aaron Rogers. But when I think about Pittsburgh Steelers football, the first thing I think about is defense.

So you got Cam Hayward, you got T.J. Watt. You obviously got J.P.J. who's probably looking for some money this year. Rightfully. So Jalen Ramkin, what is he do? He's right there. Yeah, he's got a back. Maybe he's a training camp contract back, but he's a ball. He's putting together a great season last year. He's put together a great young career. So I'm excited to see his next chapter. But it's defense. Patrick Graham coming over, somebody I'm very familiar with. I'm excited to watch the first day and pass. We were here last year, and we remember the first day in the lack of juice. I don't know what it was. It was weird. It was weird. It was odd.

but now being back, we're talking earlier pre-show, like, hey, do you still miss it? At 40, no, I don't miss it much, but around training camp time, this is the time. You're watching the walkthrough, seeing the adjustments, seeing all the players talking to coaches. I'm excited to see what we see today, especially at two-minute drill we have later. Yeah, 1 o'clock, there'll be a two-minute draw live, offense, first defense, first day of pads. Mike McCarthy calling plays into Aaron Rogers. Who will be the second-string quarterback? Who will be in that conversation?

We should. Drew's? I don't know. Is that Aller or Hard? Not a lot of Masons. Hard as ones with people are here. Will Hurt is one. That's Bill Howard, baby.

Now, I will say Mason Rudolph has done a lot of good for the Pittsburgh Steelers as well. Drew Aller gets drafted very high. Higher than a lot of people get to the Pittsburgh Steelers about the future. He is a Penn Stateer, so, you know, there's a lot of that happening here in this particular place. But also, I think people thought Will was going to be the next guy. They thought everybody was going to hand off. Obviously, new head coach. Obviously, you know, new ideas, new everything.

How can we make the most out of our picks? They bring in, he's looked good. From what we've seen, we've only seen a few clips. Drew's looked good. Will is beloved. I mean, Will Howard is beloved. For good reason, by the way. Whenever we were here in the off season,

Will Howard was who they were waiting for outside to go into the Pittsburgh Penguins game. And I think it was like TJ and everybody. I think at the Pittsburgh Penguins game, Will Howard was the one in the middle, like operating almost as if he was quarterback of the team. I think the city has seen that. I think the locker room seen that. But Drew Aller with what he's potentially could become with Mike McCarthy, a quarterback whisper talking to him with how tall he is and how talented he could potentially be. Future is certainly bright. And at Mason Rudolph, hey, that old dog can get it done.

Yes, he can. Here's a live look at the quarterbacks getting after a little bit of warm up. First day of pads. Will hired nears to us there, obviously. Aaron Rogers got a cool lean, which leads to college football national champion, Super Bowl champion. Rider Cup winner, ladies and gentlemen, former president of the great state of Ohio. AJ Haw. Hocko, we... Hey, can you imagine Coach Mike if he hears that? What are we doing?

What are we doing that, man? I didn't know we brought a circus in, Tom. It's an AJ Hawk circus? I don't know, man. Let's talk about Mike. Let's talk about Aaron. There's a lot of photos of Aaron and Mike kind of hugging up on each other. Obviously, when you were at the Packers, they were together.

that was the beginning of your entire career. 107 of those wins, you probably saw all of them, if I had to guess. Aaron and Mike at this stage, what should they be expecting? And what should everybody in maybe the league be thinking? Because I don't think anybody's like Aaron Rogers going to win a Super Bowl with Steelers outside of Pittsburgh. Outside of Steelers fans, which obviously is huge. Do you think that's very wrong? And why do you think Mike McCarthy and Aaron Rogers potentially at this time for the Pittsburgh Steelers is perfect, if you feel that way?

I don't think it's out of the, you know, it's definitely a possibility for them to go on a run and find a way. way to get hot in the playoffs and do that. I've seen how special Aaron is and I know what it means for Coach Mike to be here. We would joke about it all the time. Every single team meeting, every single meeting before a game, like the Saturday night meeting, McCarthy would mention something about Pittsburgh, some street he grew up on, some young kid driving a dump truck that he used to know, all of these Pittsburgh stories that I'm sure he probably continues to tell these guys now and Aaron has heard a bunch of them. But I think if there's something about it, I don't know, something about being here too. This is like its own country. It's a little world. You drive up here.

I would imagine these people in a good way. I'm saying I think it's awesome. Pittsburgh alone is, but when you get to look Trobe in this college, I don't know what it is. I've only been here a couple of times now, but I understand why they keep coming back. I love the people that travel up for training camps. Yeah.

Come people with full pass up there. Different breed. Really? Different breed. Full path. Training camp crowds are the best. Hey, good to see you guys. Hell yeah.

We'll see you guys. By the way, I didn't inside source. Tell me that Mike's first meeting, he may have shown a video of how they make steel in the city. just to make sure the team knew exactly where they were coming. I think he showed them the football time. I think he potentially did to let them know what this place is, what it means to this city.

And as their practice continues, I think people will be meandering around St. Vincent, obviously. There's hills everywhere, and we appreciate the hell out of the opportunity. Oh, Scott, two coppers right up there. If you guys want to smoke marijuana or something, don't do it. Because they're watching you. Okay, those guys right there are watching you.

Now, if you go up behind that building, from my understanding, I think there's a couple people that have been up there. So there's something to think about. Before we get back to NFL training camp highlights that have been happening all around the NFL, and it's a beautiful thing that this is what my algo is. We have to cover some stuff that has happened in other sports as well. Baseball's dead. What do you mean?

Yeah. It's done. Trade deadline is. Forget about it. All the people that know baseball. Okay. Make sure of the two. Okay.

So, okay. So the sell the team chant comes from the Pittsburgh Pirates fans that are here. And as soon as Paul Skeens got drafted to the Pittsburgh Pirates, and then debuted as a young lad and go on to win the titles. Everybody in Pittsburgh was just like, it stinks because it's been good to see you, dude. Almost acting like they were the Indianapolis Indians, which is the AAA team for the Pittsburgh Pirates. That's how the Pittsburgh Pirates fans were immediately acting. I know.

The Indianapolis. That's their name. That kid's got a jersey right there. We're going to keep it moving you. Indianapolis commanders. Everybody in Pittsburgh's immediate response to Paul Skeen's being as good as he is, is, oh, this guy's never going to be a pirate for the rest of his career. He's going somewhere else.

And that leads to a conversation that is happening around the broader scope of baseball. The Pittsburgh Pirates fans aren't the only fans that feel that way. There's a lot of smaller market, smaller cap teams that feel as if the game the league is completely rigged against them. Yes, every owner could spend, but clearly the Pittsburgh Pirates owner is not going to, you know, he's not going to be doing it. And there's a lot of other owners that are like that. So this new CBA negotiation, see, they want this guy to sell the team. They're not the only ones. There's a lot of teams fan bases that feel that way.

And allegedly, from what I was being told, if Scoobel was to go to the Dodgers and they were to somehow pick him up, trade, win another time, sign him to a deal, do a deferral payment, do this entire thing. It basically guarantees that a lockout is going to be happening next year because the fans are going to now say, hey, this is even more proving the point, that there needs to be a floor, which I think everybody in Pittsburgh would love, if there was a floor that the owner had to pay.

And then the cap, okay, if that's going to be able to stop the, Los Angeles Dodgers from buying up every good player in winning, we're suddenly being in with that. Players are saying the league's very healthy. The game's healthy. Everybody likes it. Why would we change anything? This is a capitalistic society. If they want to pay us that amount of money, that's what it is. And this is how it's always been in baseball. So tell me why, Ty, scuba going to the Dodgers is basically a hammer to a nail into a coffin of baseball for next season. You did a pretty good job. I think a big part is that because The idea is that this is already the best team.

There's a bunch of stuff that's coming out now with when the Dodgers went bankrupt, you know, like a decade ago that they worked out some sort of deal with the MLB, so they get to, they get tax money that no other team gets. So they already are operating with like, you know, around like $100 million more dollars than other teams kind of have access to. But it's really what you mentioned. Like they are able to get all these good players because they're working within the system. They are deferring all these contracts.

We talked about like the Brewers and the race who are two small market teams, lower payrolls, who would have got Scoobel for a rental. And then the idea was that regardless of what happened this season, he was going to go sign with the Dodgers. And he was going to sign a massive contract. And he was going to defer money. So they can keep kind of just adding all these All-Star players. And they're not paying these guys until, or they're paying them until 2043. I think an idea is that maybe some of these like general managers and stuff like, too,

it's not just owners want a salary cap as well because it's a lot. gotten to the point where it makes their jobs easier. Lowest ERAs since 2022, you have Scoobol 2.46, Blake Snell, 2.61, Shohei Otani, 265. The who? The Oscenova Yamamoto, 2.70. Four out of the top five best pitchers since 2022 are all now members of the Dodgers,

because they're spending more money and everybody else. Yep. Connor, it's linked against the pirates. Yeah, a little bit. It definitely is. The owner could spend the money, though, so it's kind of on the owner in the end, which is what the players are saying. Probably could have, but I'm sure the Tigers probably think the same thing as the Pirates. And I think that's why they did this.

Like, no matter whether there was a deal or not that was better than the one, because basically everyone said, hey, those three players that the Dodgers had to trade, all stunk anyways, which is kind of crazy when you think about it. But I almost think that the Detroit Tigers said to themselves, hey, we need a salary cap, too. Let's just ship this guy, start the lockout. Everyone will be pissed at the Dodgers. they won't be pissed at the tigers and then we can kind of figure it out from there but it does feel as though this inevitably will benefit more teams than it hurts because this is ridiculous yeah it does feel a little bit ridiculous but to the dodgers fans enjoy it man nice yeah if your team was just buying up every good player this is what the Yankees used to be yeah they didn't defer the contracts though I think which is what a lot of yeah so you guys did a little bit they had to pay that bill right away you couldn't just go buy every single of every single of the best player in the league give them a million bucks and say don't worry about it we're going to pay you through 20. 72. Millions of money and future deferred money.

The Dodgers currently have 1.112 billion. And then the Mets have 181 million. That's second. I mean, okay, yeah. This lays it out right here. Okay, good luck, baseball. Good luck. Seems like next summer, we got the Women's World Cup.

Yeah. We got the WMBA. Maybe. Okay, maybe. Banana ball. Little League World Series. Why does it WMBA even exist, by the way? Why does it even, I don't know, that's a whole other question.

I mean, I love where we're at. It's a great league. What do you mean? No, I agree. That's what I'm saying, 30 years in, but why was it ever created? That should just be a question. That should just be a question that's asked. Women in the league.

Duh. Hello? Yeah, but 30 years in. I don't know what, but so. Up and to the right. Up and to the right. Good luck out there. Hell you.

But anyways, that's next off season, strictly because the MLS decided to move their schedule, actually. Yeah. They decided to move their schedule. So we don't even have MLS. We don't even have messy next summer. That's what's coming. Move it back. Baseball's done.

And I don't like to say that because I thought a deal could be made by these two. But boy, with the Dodgers just, every good player in $1.1 billion. What if for some reason the Dodgers don't win at all this year? They just got swept by the Red Sox. Yeah, they did. I'm saying obviously everyone's pencil in a minute as chance, but what if they're not the chance?

We'd wear our football pants. I'm from Florida's football. We wear our pants. Yeah, we'd wear our pants. I'd wear cleats and pants and then go straight to the game of practice. You got to remember up here, it's not 10,000 degrees at noon like you guys have done there. That's when you start dick hockey and shit like that, huh?

He was wearing a backpack for the University of Texas the last three years. He should be phenomenal. for North Texas. We like the Mean Green. We also appreciate that you're joining us. Okay, you're live from Cincinnati Bengals training camp. The only thing we've really seen is multiple

fights. Can you tell me if that is kind of a difference in the defensive edge coming into this year or what is the big storyline for you right now? Yeah, I think that's that defensive tenacity is something that they've been talking about a ton. And it's funny when all this was going down, I mean, Jamar Chase was where I'm sitting last week. And he was talking about, I've never seen that from Jalen Davis, that they were one to draw a little bit from DJ Turner. And talking to these guys and Brian Cook, their new safety, they wanted to come out and kind of set that intensity. And they said, listen, you can't be pushed around in this way. You've got to be a physical defense.

And they feel like they've really up the ante this year. You know, I was just in the locker room just a few minutes ago on the other side of that wall, talking to linebacker, Barrett Carter. And he said he feels like they're just now hitting their floor. And that floor is quite high. They feel like they're making a lot of progress because they know they were not good last year. And they've got to be better if they want to get back into the playoffs. We saw Joe Burrow throw an absolute dot to Jamar Chase.

Feels like they're on fire. Obviously, the offense is expected to score 50, 60 points a game. Is that reality for Cincinnati? And is that how they're viewing it? Are we going to run the ball a little bit more? We're going to be a little bit more balanced team, you think, Ben? Listen, Pat, I think we're going to be starting playing maybe a little more Midwestern football to a degree, potentially, a nice balance between the run in the past, which has a Texan.

I don't know if I love, but in the AFC North, you've got to play ball a certain way. And they've got to try to figure out a way to find that harmony between the run and the past. Something that's been talked about at a ton. We've seen a lot of under-center stuff in training camp. It's been a big topic of conversation about Joe Burrow, specifically a shotgun guy for the bulk of his career. He's preferred that a good amount. He did say, listen, we've adapted over the years, and he's open to doing whatever the offense needs to be successful. And as teams try to take away Jamar Chase, take away T. Higgins, they've got to find a way to get Chase Brown, those explosive plays on the ground, those explosive runs.

They feel like that's what this team is missing, and they want to go out and be explosive again, because when they were cooking in 2021 and 2022, they were hitting those big plays. They just haven't been there. So this off season, they're trying to manufacture those so they can get those playmakers and get them what they're doing, what they paid them for.

We're talking about the Cincinnati Bengals here live from Pittsburgh Steelers Training Camp, Ben Baby North Texas graduate live with the Bengals. A.J. Hawks, Cincinnati Bengal legend has a question for you, Ben. Yeah, Ben, we see Dexter Lawrence on the graphic that we pat on here a little bit ago. Could you explain like the impact he has had? We've seen clips of Ted Karras talking about how tough it is going up one-on-one

against him in practice. But what's it been, what's that defense looked like with Dexter Lawrence there in the middle? Listen, that defense has been getting after it. I think the defense single-handedly probably won today. First day of pads. They were out there. Burrow talked about the other day that he can feel the pocket collapsing a little bit more. Talked about that on Sports Center earlier in the weekend.

And you can feel that difference. They wanted to go out and make that defensive line of strength. You know, and in talking to it to be a bit of a bit of, Barrett Carter, the linebacker, said, what's the funniest thing about having Dex on the defense? And he said, when Dex makes a big play, he'll just out here just start yelling in the middle of the play. I was like, you mean like, he'll just like yell a boom or something. It's kind of like a rapper ad lib in the middle of a track. Like they just hear, that's how you know that Dex is cooking. And they feel like that defensive line. And it's not just him. They got Jonathan Allen.

They got Boy A Mafei drafted Cash as Howl. They think Miles Murphy's going to have said, you know, when Shamar Stewart comes back healthy, they've got high expectations for him. They understand that you have to have a very deep and potent defensive line. And if they're going to do that, they've got to have that pass rush from the interior, something that I've been hearing about going back to the end of last season. So it was not a shock that when Dexter Lawrence was available, they were willing to trade the 10th overall pick to make sure this defense is where it needs to be so it can support all those playmakers on offense.

I love, you know, I just love that they get rid of their best sacker. Yeah. And they're like, we got to get better on D line. Get the sacker out of here. And then bringing in Dexie, everybody's like, yeah, they did that. Yeah, they did. They actually accomplished that, which is wild. Tone Diggs, Pittsburgh Steelers, AP voter has a question for you.

Yeah, Ben, when everyone talks about the Bengals, they do talk about the defense first foremost. And the next thing that they talk about is, can Joe Burrough stay healthy? Are they going to keep him upright? What's the additions there on the offensive line? How do they feel about that and Joe staying healthy for this year again? Yeah, you know, I think they feel like on paper, I was just talking to somebody recently, that on paper, this is a much better offensive line than they had when the Bengals were really good in 21 and 22.

In fact, y'all will enjoy this when I was just in the locker room a few minutes ago. I was just sitting eavesdropping on Orlando Brown Jr. and Dalton Reisner, and they were just having a conversation. Dalton was munching on a little light. I believe it's black cherry yogurt that they have on my food truck afterwards. And he's just munching. And they're having a conversation about how the defensive line was today. Orlando was talking about his sets. And they were going in and talking about different techniques where they need to win at, where they feel like they can be better.

And I asked Dalton, I'm like, you know, do you mind if I just kind of hang on and listen in for this conversation? Like, yeah, of course. Told him I was going to come in here and talk about it with y'all. And he said, you know, this is just a part of us being locked in. When you know that we are, you know, when you know who you're next to for the entirety of the time, you can go in and work on those little details.

I mean, they spent a good five, ten minutes. Up until I left the room, they were just sitting there talking ball, talking techniques, and they feel like they can do a really good job. And I think one thing to note on this, I think Burrow also carries a lot of personal responsibility as well. I think he's got to be able to pick his spots on when to extend plays, when to know to check it down, and when to see another down. I think that's going to be part of his progression.

I know he's entering year seven, but I think that's an important part of it too. You know, like in the fight game, you've got to know when to pick your spots to really absorb contact. I think that's going to be a big thing for Burrow as he tries to find that next level for him as he tries to lead this team forward. Year seven's wild. It feels like just yesterday he was losing his head against Philadelphia Eagles. I saw yesterday, like Lamar and Josh are your nine now. That's crazy. We're so old all of a sudden.

And you talk about his progression. I do think he gets hit less than he did at the beginning. I mean, at the beginning, it was the most reckless human I've ever seen on a football field. Maybe like Andrew Luck levels of trying to run people over. Patrick Mahomes last season kind of actually. If Joey B is protected and able to spin it, everybody's scared. A Cincinnati, including these Steelers fans here in the LATROB. Ben, we appreciate your brother.

You're getting it. A little harder than Ben, baby, but you got it. I just want to be respectful. Obviously, my name gets shit on all the time. Daniel Oye Fusi over there in Cleveland camp. story of everything, maybe an NFL national story at this point, is the quarterback situation. We've seen Shador, obviously, ESPN Cleveland's Twitter account, keeping up-to-date stats, not giving us much context, but certainly letting us know what's happening every single day.

We appreciate that account doing it. We believe that Shador obviously has a spark, brought a lot to Cleveland last year. Deshaun Watson, though, $240 million guaranteed. If he wants to play, he's going to play. Is Dylan Gabriel the best quarterback they got? Tell us about where everything stands at this moment and kind of how the story's being talked about amongst you guys there on the ground? Well, I think we got to preface everything with saying it's a little, it's a little early.

Like we talked to Tom Monkin not too long ago a couple days ago, and he's like, we're halfway through the install. They've got eight days of install where they're really still incorporating the offense, putting that in. They're not going to be done with that until Thursday. And then after that, that's when Monkin said, like, he'll really start dialing things up and calling plays to each individual quarterback strengths and weaknesses. And that's when he's going to get a sense for really how these quarterbacks are handling

the offense, but there's so much that's going into this quarterback competition. You got pre-snap, like three days into training camp. They had 10 different cadences that they're working on with the offensive line. Obviously, post-snap, you know, Munkin wants them to execute a certain way for Shador. You know, this coaching staff wants him to get the ball out a little bit quicker, work through his progressions. And they think that he's doing that really well. We're seeing the deep ball every day in practice. And then you got the Sean Watson. You're still kind of getting back into form after so much time off because of injuries and whatnot. He's talking about just letting his instincts take over.

He's had a couple of interceptions where he just needs to play with a little more fluidity and trust what he's seeing. But yeah, I mean, you've got those two guys competing, and you've got two other young quarterbacks with Dylan Gabriel and Tailing Green that are getting snaps, and they're also working hard as well. I heard Tailing Green, should door get a little extra work out. I love that. I love to hear that, obviously, second-year player, acting like a vet, Deshaun Watson.

If he wants, I still don't understand how a guy getting paid that much money if he wants to play is not going to play. But hey, they're going to move on. It's a new era. It's a new era they are saying, obviously, as a whole. The GoPro on the helmet. Yeah. All right.

The GoPro on the helmet. The GoPro on the helmet, I love the views that they're probably getting. It has to be a little bit uncomfortable. But if Monkin can be in your brain. He needs that. He needs to be. It's going to help. Debutt has a question for you, Daniel.

Yeah, we talked about the offense and obviously a quarterback competition, so that will lead every story. But the defense, a couple veterans got paid. Tenzel Ward. Grant Delpit. How's that defense looking? Are those guys being, I guess, more focal leaders at this point in their career? Yeah, well, I'll tell you this. Yes, the big story of the offseason was the Browns trading, Miles Garrett to the Rams.

You lose the defense play of the year, two-time defense player of the year, sack champion. But this is a group that still thinks this is going to be one of the better and really one of the best defenses in the NFL. You get Jared verse back, you know, to lead that defensive front. You got the reigning defense rookie of the year in Carson-Swessinger. And like you said, one of the best secondaries in the NFL, which you'd, Denzel Ward who just got paid, Grant dealt with that just got paid, and definitely keep an eye

out for second round pick, Emmanuel McNeil Warren. I think this is a defense. He's going to play a lot of big nickel, you know, just try to combat all these offenses playing two, three tight ends. He's going to have a big load. Then you got new beat. What? Hold on, Daniel. Can you tell these people who you're talking about there? They're saying who? Who's, who should I keep an eye out for? New defensive coordinator Mike Rutenberg, Rookiee safety, Emmanuel McNeil Warren. Yeah, there it is. This is going to be a defense that is flying to the ball.

There's a lot of men. They're going to try to get them in the back end. They think they're still going to be really, really dead despite losing Miles Garrett. Okay, yeah, obviously move on from Miles Garrett. Then they start dumping money into the defense, verse doing his thing. I can't wait to see what the Cleveland Browns are. I don't know if these Steelers fans have any idea who those guys are. But hey, don't find out.

Hey, Brian to learn this year. That's not how Brent Michaels sings it. He sings it wrong. I hope Brett Michael's okay, by the way. Toby's okay. Last question for you here, Daniel, coming from Conman. Yeah, Daniel, we've talked about being here from last year to this year and just a different vibe overall with Big Mike McCarthy at the helm.

How is it with, you know, the entire thing with Stefanski being gone and Munkin taking over? Is it just a better, fresher vibe or people flying around a little more? What is kind of the biggest difference that you would say going from last year to this year with the Munkin regime? Yeah, it's definitely a different style. And I think the general manager, Andrew Barry, who he spoke to a couple days ago, put it best, where he said that Todd Monkin is old school disciplinarian, but new school football and relationship building. This is a 60-year-old first-time NFL head coach who said it's been a dream come true to work decades in this sport and finally get an opportunity to be a head coach. So he's a disciplinarian. You hear him at practice.

He lost his voice one time in mini camp because he was feeling so much. But then he has a new way of thinking about the game. an offensive-minded head coach. The way that he interacts. He's 60 years old, but he can interact with these young 21, 22, 23-year-olds that are fresh out of college. So they love that mixture, and I think that the players are definitely gravitating to the way he coaches them and how hard he is on them. Okay, I like that there's a little different energy, a little different pace. Maybe the Cleveland Browns win the AFC North as year. You can see it. There's a chance. Good value in that bit. There's a six-year-old girl over there.

Okay, so we're in La Trobe. And obviously, Mike Tomlin has been running this team for an adult, a human growth amount of time, 18 years. And then Carr, before that and then Noel, obviously. But whenever you talk about Mike McCarthy coming in here, what have you noticed as somebody that's obviously played here, that has been an alumni here, that's beloved here, been around the building, and now there's a new coach in the building. What has it been like? and what do you think about the team thus far? Well, he's a yinzer. You know, he grew up here.

He knows what the team means to the tan. And, you know, he's just changed things. There's attention to detail anytime there's anything new. When I came here, Coach Cowher was here. You know, he ran a great camp. Six weeks of two a days, baby. Like, yeah, it was a whole different realm. Our weight room was a tent.

Like, well, this is way nicer than our weight room. It was just different. The stadium wasn't there. The seats weren't there with just a hill and Stiller fans showing up with their coolers and sitting all day. But when Coach T came in, it's a transition. It's a new thing. Each one of these guys, as you guys know, has to set their own stamp in, right, and do things their own way. So just talking to people within the organization stuff, there's a real attention to detail.

It's far different. There isn't, you know, kids running around on the field and stuff like that. It's like, get to your job, let's go. We got things to do. We got games to win. Aaron Rogers, obviously, how old is he now? 41? 50, 42, turning? He'll be 43 during the season, I think.

He's got a young spirit. It doesn't matter how many human years he has, obviously. It's all about his spirit in there. What did you see from him last year? And whenever you talk about having a little of familiarity, at least with being a Pittsburgh Steeler, what do you think that adds for him this year? I think he did great last year. I mean, you know, there was a lot of moving pieces.

The old line was kind of shaky at times a little bit, but having his leadership and, you know, a first ballot hall of famer in the huddle it's going to elevate everybody's game and i think having a year under his belt his familiarity with coach mccarthy and what they've done together um i think they you know we're going to the super bowl right here we go here we go pittsburg's going to the super bowl here we go that's something else when you're in pittsburgh and you do get into the playoffs and they start playing those fight songs that we have and stuff, like on the radio every morning. Yeah. It's unique.

So we got to get back to that. We got to get a playoff win in. Amen. And back to the big dance, baby. Well, I want to let you know. I'm from the town with the great football team. Big Donna Pittsburgh Steelers. Okay, Tony has a question for you, Brett.

Yeah, Keisel, a lot of talk about Patrick Graham, the new D.C. Like when we were growing up, we were watching you, it was Aaron Smith, Brett Keesel, big snacks in the middle. you had the dogs on the outside, no matter who it was, ferry and foot in the middle. But they're talking about moving TJ and Highsmith and Her being around a lot more. Do you think that's important in today's football? How do you feel about that versus what they haven't been doing the last few years?

Definitely think it's important. I think he's going to do a great job. Just talking to Cam, he really likes the system and things that they're doing now. And like I said before, anytime anything new comes in, everyone knows you've got to step your game up. You can't rely on, oh, I've been with this coach for five years. He knows me. I'm going to be on the team or whatever.

It's like, man, you've got to go. Like, you've got a job to do. And so TJ and those linebackers are so athletic and long, and if you can get them back in space and get them moving where they're not rushing the quarterback all the time and you can bring a blitz from the side, cornerback blitz, safety bits. Like Coach LeBow was so great at that, right?

Oh, we love Warbo. Love Dickie, baby. Oh, love Dick. Great Stacey of all time. Yeah, he is. I agree. But so much of it, coach led us as linemen, like myself, stand up. You know, most of the time, big boys, you're always got your hand in the dirt, right?

So being able to stand up, move around, disguise, hide things that enabled us to bring TP off the side. Or sometimes Troy would just come on his own, you know. Yeah, I love that. It wasn't even a part of the play. But all of it is disguise now, you know. Everybody's trying to trick everybody. Everyone tries to get a next step on everybody. So if you can disguise and have guys moving around,

I think that makes your defense that much better. All right, Brett. Over under for the Pittsburgh Steelers is eight and a half, I think, right? Yeah. That's a high number. Is it? They've gone under that number in 23 years. That's right, Brad.

Things are going great here with the Ravens. A lot of optimism. I know the Steelers fans are going to be happy to hear that. It's a lot of good vibes, a lot of new coach vibes. There's lots of like over here. Okay, so the Steelers fans here were chanting wide right, obviously, because of a kick. That's mean. That's actually really mean.

That changed the entire trajectory of the Baltimore Ravens and also the New York Giants. I mean, if Father McMillian, McMillians, Max a Million, Father Maximilian, if Father Maximilian didn't put that holy water down there on Acresher Field and forced that mace kick, Ravens. and stay with Hardball. There's no change. Now, full change down in Baltimore. You said the vibes are high. What does that mean? Everybody's bought in. Everybody believes.

Like, what is that exactly mean? You know, it's an interesting dance because no, like, probably did great things here, won a Super Bowl. And it's like, you know, not everything positive has to be sort of disparaging to the other guy. I would say same thing with the Steelers, right? I mean, a new coach probably is a good thing, but it doesn't mean that the old coach was a bad thing.

You know what I mean? So there's a lot of that going. on here, a lot of energy, a lot of really good communication and relationship building from Jesse Mentor, Zeklin Doyle, the new offensive coordinator, and Lamar Jackson, just understanding this offense what it's going to be like, why it can help him and help everyone. Like there's the relationship building and communication, I would say, are really good, whereas like, you know, by the end, both of those things probably fell off a little bit with John Harbaugh.

And I would say particularly Lamar seems really invested in this. Lamar Jackson. You're talking about former MVP, Lamar Jackson Superstar. He's been at every single workout as well, two-time MVP. I apologize. He's been at every single workout this offseason. They're making a big deal of that. Is that because, obviously, new culture?

Is it because Lamar feels as if maybe he's going to be judged on this entire coaching change as well? Well, I think both those things and because there's a lot to learn. You know, like, Lamar had his best years when Todd Monk, and came in and kind of started new, dug in, dove in, learned everything, and played really well and really efficient. And that's sort of the vibe I'm getting here. Like, Lamar was around a lot. He's, you know, it's going to look a little different. He's going to be under center a little more. I think probably than he was previously. So they're going to run the heck out of the ball. They got

Derek Henry. You know, but I think the fact that he likes it and is energized by it will go a long way for this organization. That stuff, especially when, you know, the way it was last year, about their injuries, didn't play great. You know, the buy-in is really meaningful. And you can feel it. Yeah, anytime your quarterback's all in, obviously the team is going to be all in as well, which is why every team wants to know who their quarterback is immediately. Lamar Jackson last year, on the ground, we don't think he was able to be who Lamar Jackson is, which is still above everybody else. But it wasn't exactly that because of injuries and things like that. People forget his QBR. is like better than everybody.

I mean, the guy can spin it way, way better than anybody gives him credit for. I'll tell you what, Minter gets that defense back to being that defense. You know, seeing Lamar, Joe. Go ahead. Sorry, you get used to seeing Lamar Jackson a certain way. And then when it doesn't look the same, they're like, what's wrong with him? It's like, well, there were some things wrong. He was injured.

He is tough. He is physical, and he wants it very, very, very badly. He has wound extremely tight, I think, in the right ways.

Early returns are really good. Going to rush the pass, sir. Going to contribute on the edge, and this is a team that, you know, needs it. And if they get Namdi Madivouki back, if they get Kaleas out there, and that defensive line itself is going to be really good. It kind of takes some pressure off him as well. It should be much improved from last year. I think trade's gonna be a big part of it.

And that storyline, how they rush the passer, obviously how Max does with the Las Vegas Raiders. And then Vega, who was the first round pick who would have been traded. He has been a baller here. I mean, just a baller here with the Ravens. Like that's going to be interesting to follow how that trade, the fallout and all that. Yeah, because now Max's name is getting mentioned to be traded again. So it's almost like the Las Vegas Raiders was kind of hard coming out of your mouth right there. It was about Max.

Why is everybody doing that with Max? Honestly, because is he coming to the Colts? We love to have them. What do you go? We love to have them. I think a lot of teams would love to have them. I do not get the sense right now that Max Crosby wants to get traded. I do not get the sense that he will get traded.

If anything could happen, we've seen that. It's just it feels to me like he's all in. on the Raiders, the Las Vegas Raiders, his current and only team. I believe that's the way it will stay, especially if they are much improved this year, which they should be. Okay, he was a Raven there for about a day, it felt like, and then obviously that all goes deaf from ways. They're not going to spend any money on a pass rusher.

No, actually they're going to pay Trey Hendrickson just kick Max out of the building. Max goes back to the most talented Raiders team we have seen. You know, they still got Rashad Bateman, they still got Mark Andrews, obviously likely is gone, drafted a couple receivers in the draft, a couple tight ends. And what it seems like they're looking at is will one of those guys at each of the positions kind of emerge, kind of like they did in Mark Andrews year actually. It's like draft two guys in the position, see which one will be good, figure it out. You know, you hope they get a little better receiver help.

I think they probably need it. But the early returns on this draft class, I would say, are pretty positive. Obviously, starting with the guard, but pretty positive. The Baltimore Ravens, obviously, vibing into a potential another AFC North title. Eleven and a half. Eleven and a half wins. Brand new head coach. Two-time MVP.

Like you remember, for me at least, thinking about the Raven season, out coming back down 15 in the fourth quarter and then beating them and it felt like that kind of set the tone for their entire year we'll see what happens with that linderbom that feels like the biggest loss for them and lamar yeah it does it's good because like the old line was the biggest thing

for them last year they couldn't figure out the right side of their offensive line Connor says linderbom is gone obviously rap talked about them uh drafts and vega ione out of pen state who is a beast but yeah we'll see with the offensive line because that was a big thing last year and they're going to put lamar under center more so that'll be interesting to see because there's a certain guy, there's certain GM who's wanted him to be under center for a long time. Okay, speaking of being under center for a long time, let's come here to Pittsburgh, well, sorry, Steelers Camp, Latrobe, Pennsylvania. I believe we're about 30 seconds out from a potential two-minute rule.

and they're going to run on. Once you get on there, it'll be probably muddle huddle here. What did you say? How much time is left on the clock? 146. Offense is down seven. Two timeouts for the offense. One for the defense.

What does that mean, D. That means the offense has the full playbook, basically. Plenty of time. You obviously got a quarterback in the head coach. It's going to be comfortable in any situations. But the clock is not an issue for the offense, at least right now,

and the two-minute drill. But you need a touchdown, so the defense also knows that don't give up the big play. Official start of this, we've been told, is 102, and obviously the attention to detail that has been talked about around here. We assume one of the 35. We assume 102 will be the exact start time

of this particular two-minute. What we're saying is, look at the crowd, filtering. What they're about to see right now is ones-on-one's real football, and this is what we've been dreaming of, tone digs. Yeah, it is. I mean, it's awesome to see this,

because this is about as good as it gets when you come to one of these training practices of two-minute, everyone going all out. Aaron has been really, really good so far in two-minute. Well, Howard's been good at two-it. Drew Ailer's been good at two-minute. I haven't seen much of Mason yet, but I assume he's been great, but no, it'll be fun to watch this. God, man, are you going to get scared if the Pittsburgh Steelers just do some walking right down this field? Because I'll tell you, I've seen a lot of highlights coming out of New England,

and obviously we're talking about the AFC North right now. The team that reigns supreme over the AFC for a long time just might be back, and it feels like the mic'd up is telling us Drake May and Josh McDaniel. are more confident than ever. Yeah, more confident than ever. Their interactions are much more kind of level. Last year, it was a lot of McDaniels telling me what to do. Now it seems to be kind of back and forth.

But yeah, you said it. You don't get nervous as a team who just went to the Super Bowl about other teams. Okay. We are the top. We are what people are chasing after. Of course, you didn't get the job done last year. But yeah, seeing this, though, seeing the clips of McDaniels and May, like this is, you get chills because you know that it's around the corner.

You know, a lot of conversation about McCarthy and Aaron Rogers. You guys, how does it feel coming into this year? with uncertainty or how is it kind of?

We're trying to embrace change, man. I think PG's done a great job with our defense. We have a lot of great players. Obviously, we also have some good vets in the room. It's tough running those two-minute drills and you have an offensive coach. You know, some flags will start getting thrown and stand in it. There's never a sack.

Yeah, there's never a sack. Not allowed to do a whole bunch of stuff, but anytime we can win, it's huge for us out there. Cam, let's talk about that, offensive-minded head coach here. They haven't been like that forever, obviously. And you were a huge piece, I think, to the Tomlin leadership group.

We've seen it in miced up. We've seen it into hard knocks. Having a new coach come in here, an offensive mind coach, what has it been like for you personally and also professionally, I guess, should have fall into that. Well, I think it's just adjusting.

As much as he's an offensive-minded coach, we're still a defensive-minded team. And we're trying to embrace that. We're trying to learn. I got to rely on this guy a little bit more to keep my head right. But, you know, we're going through it. Yeah, AJ has a question for you.

Yeah, T.J., there's obviously a ton of talk about you standing up, moving around, doing all this, with multiple other guys in the team. I guess what is that like for you, especially this deep into your career? It has to feel good to be a versatile player where they do want to move you around and give different looks to the offense.

Yeah, I mean, I grew up watching the Packers. Obviously, Clay Matthews moved around a whole bunch. Wow. I'm not... Really, really making you feel good over here. He was inside, man. You're right, very simply. He was madge rusher like you.

You're right. There's actually a story where he was healthy scratch whenever they took on Vic against Philadelphia. Wow. I was not healthy scratch. I played kickoff team and I was the last one down each time, I think. I'm trying to dive and talk your thing. The catapult was at an all time.

Exactly, exactly. Yeah, man, I'm just trying to be as versatile as possible. And I think it's a lot easier said than done. And I've been stubborn to it for a long time. But this scheme doesn't allow me to only go to the left and just fall back on what I know best. And sometimes it feels awkward. But the more that I do it, the more reps that I do it, the more that they make me getting those uncomfortable.

positions on the football field, the better that I'm going to get at it and keep the offense off edge. Tell me about the stubbornness, because that has happened, I think, right? Yeah, this has been a conversation for a few years, and I think your angle has been like, hey, I'm really good at this. I am like best at this. Having to, you said the scheme doesn't allow you to be stubborn or whatever you're going to be forced to get up there, but what has that been like for workouts? What has that been like for mental? Like, have you talked to others that have done in the past, like Clay, like how have you kind of attacked it? Because I think you've always said, I'm really good at this.

Exactly. This is what I should be doing. I think you've almost humbly said, why are we going to be putting me into these positions? Now you have to do it. How have you focused and attacked at this offseat? Just trying to embrace it. And in the individual periods, start on the right side and then do my stuff on the left side last because I know that that's more natural to me. It's tough because I never want to waste a rush, you know? Like if I'm on the right side and I have a bad rush, I'm like, damn, if I was on the left side there, I would have had a sack, you know? So it's hard to adapt. But as I get older,

as we try to affect the offenses as a whole. You have to grow, and the only way to grow is to continue to listen to where you can get better. Can you catch? Back over to this side. Can I catch? Come on. Back over to this side with Cam. But I'll just say this.

Like, as much as he's on the left, that makes all of us step up on the other side, too. Like, it's not just him, Russia. It's a group effort. So he's been telling us a little bit

what's been going on in the past. He has a wealth of knowledge, too. So, you know, it's not like anything new for him. And we're just trying to marry the two defenses we've had in the past. So he's been open to it. We've been honest. Like, every time we're on the field and off the field, we're just communicating to get through all of our different checks, all over different looks. But he's fun with it, too. So it's been really cool. And, you know, we're just growing up. every day. He wants us to not be robots but at the same time not mess up. You know what I mean? I'm trying to be PG with it but I think he brings great organic energy. You know he's not trying to be something that he's not. We clap it up at

the beginning of every meeting and at first we kind of look to each other little sideways but that's just who he is. Yeah. And he brings that energy he wants the best for you. He's gonna let you take those chances if you know what you're talking about and you do your film study and I think we're gonna do some great things as defense this year. TJ, much like me, AJ, and D-Bud, it does feel like you're a big rah-rah guy. You love the rah-ras. You know. Oh, you got to hear his speeches.

Yeah, just like vets in the NFL, basically, I think we all kind of get to a point. And I'm putting myself in there. You guys have played a lot longer than me, but it does get to a point where it's like, all right, it's saying you're football anymore. So the clapping thing, I assume that was a shock. But he was talking about just how, like, this is the biggest defensive line that you guys have had in a very long time.

Maybe the biggest defensive line that you guys, uh, he's ever seen. Does it start like, we grew up, we grew up here and like it was like, oh, Stewart's having allowed a hundred yard rusher in 300 games or whatever it was. Is that where it starts? Like is that, is that PG come in with like, and remember that about the steel cart and stuff? Like, it's the start with stop and the run again? Or how's it, how, has that message been talked about it all? It's got to start there. Yeah. Um, you know, I think you look at our last couple of years, when we don't stop the run, we give it up. And so if we want to be the number one defense

and we want to go forward to the playoffs, it starts with stopping the run. And we've just been preaching that day in and day out. You got big guys like DeHarm, you got Keanu Benton, Y, A Black. You added Sebastian Joseph Day, myself included, but, you know, we all got to stop the run.

It's not just the D line, but, like, they got to stop the run. Our corners got to be a part of it. It's a group effort. And when we do that, We kick a whole lot of ass. T.J, you want to start punching people on rush stop, like run game? How does that kind of change your world now that you've got to play a couple different positions?

I just got to get more comfortable with it. But like I said, it allows us to make more plays. And even if I'm not the one making them, it frees other guys up to make plays. And we have so many guys that are willing and able to throw their head around in there and play smashball football. A lot of change around the AFC North. We assume it'll be hot in the kitchen. AFC North football is AFC North football always has. been always will be and we appreciate you too and your sacrifices that you've done not

Okay. Let's move along. Let's talk about the two-minute drill. Watched. We had a good shot down there at D.K. Metcalfe. We get down in there, and then all of a sudden that daunted Steelers' defense shuts you guys down. Was it a defensive winning day today? How would you judge practice?

And what are your thoughts on the first day of pads here with the Pittsburgh Steelers as you as their head coach? I would say overall, you know, it looked like our first day in pads. You know, first team period, you know, we didn't have a good start there offensively with the pre-snap penalty and the ball on the ground. But, I mean, to be honest, it usually goes something like this or close to this. You know, it's first time in pads, you know, the pad level and, you know, just the pace of the practice. Yeah, so we have work to do, and that's why we have video. And I can't wait to get the hell out of here and get up on that video.

Again, I don't know if you caught that little B. I'm excited for you to continue to make the team better. Last question for me for you. And then obviously the boys will have some of the fans certainly will. There's been a lot of talk about how your camp is obviously different than the camps that have been here in the past. For you, though, this is just what you're doing, right? How have you acclimated yourself to being a Pittsburgh Steeler head coach? And how do you think the Pittsburgh Steelers have acclimated to you being the head coach of this team? Excellent question. I think really doing this a lot

time. Yeah, and I think AJ can chime in on this. I mean, you know, practices were a lot different, you know, back in those six and, you know, all the way up through 2011. Then there was, you know, a shift in how you're able to practice. You know, frankly, the two minutes rule at the end there, we had to stop it after second dog because we ran out of time. So it was a, you know, it was a 105 minute practice that, you know, so just so you know, technically the offense had two more downs. So let's not get too excited. But I had two really good plays.

I'm sure, two touchdowns. Yeah, exactly. So, no, it's, so, you know, I think it's, you know, you learn through time and really and you tailor to the practices. And, you know, we have menus of drills for every, for every period. and you continue to work it. But the end of the day, you have to tailor the practice as how you want to play.

And we're getting there. And like I said, it's the first padded practice. And, you know, it was a little bumpy out there. I heard you're not tackling because you're soft. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. That's what I didn't say it. I'm just telling you what I'm going to. I don't care what they say about you.

I think you're a good guy too. I kind of like you. It's hard sometimes. You know the gimmick. You know the gimmick. No, but you coming out and saying there's no tackling, there was obviously a reaction. We saw somebody go to the ground.

We saw some thump in a day. For you, the big deal is we're definitely going to be physical. Got a lot of vets on this team, though? Like, what is kind of the mindset? I mean, to be honest with you, it's just trying to lower the risk for injury. You know, you don't want to be on the ground. It happens, you know. But, you know, so we're not taking the ball here to the ground.

You know, so that's really the difference. You know, everything else as far as the, you know, the individual drills, the combo drills, the group drills. I'm sure those will all be similar. I love that you came out and said, We're going to have a physical football camp. I mean, what are we even talking about here? We're just not taking, yeah, I'm not asking T.J. Watt to take Rico Dado down to the ground.

Okay, sue me in this entire thing. It's a good business decision, don't you think? Yeah, I'd say. But now if nobody could take it. If T.J. Watford gets out of tackle, it's on your ass. Yeah, that's fair. Okay, all right, sounds good. Omar, last question for me, for you, and before the boys have them,

you piece this team together, a lot of veteran spots. Obviously, you draft quarterback this year goes crazy, you bring in some people. how did you want to separate this particular team from maybe Steelers teams of the past? Or is it still the same mantra, same type of guys, even though Coach McCarthy's head coach now? Yeah, another good question, Pat. Yes! You know, the standard, you're on fire. The standard's been set here.

So for us, it's just really trying to continue what's been done here before. You know, the six Super Bowl championships, right? And we're trying to get the seventh one. And, you know, just really trying to stick to the standard that's been set here. Tone has a question for you? Yeah, I do, Omar. So like when you come into a camp like this and are you more focused on the rookies that you just drafted? Are you more focused on Rico Dattle and Mike Pittman and all the guys?

Like do you guys, do you watch those guys or do you tend like to notice that you watch those guys more? Because you just brought them in. You don't know them as much when you're watching practice? 100%. You know, I sit here saying we're going to watch them all the same. But obviously early on you try to take a closer peek at those young guys and the new players that are here. And the players we don't know as well, maybe as the ones we had. but certainly that happens.

Yeah, then, Coach, I wanted to ask you, so obviously the last two years, Fat Tano and what's the right guard? McCormick, thank you. McCormick, we're playing the right side. They played 3,000 snaps on the left side in college. It looks like they're playing on the left side now for you guys. What went into that situation? Because obviously the O-line and the continuity is huge this year.

I think any time you come into a new organization, you have a short-term plan and a long-term plan. I think it's part of it. You evaluate the players. You want to give players an opportunity to be a starter. Those guys were drafted as the left side players. I have a belief of what the left side players will look like. First of the right side player.

So is your scheme and which way you go there. That's all fact. But it's definitely two men that we feel really good about. They're established and hopefully they're anchors over there for quite some time. That was a good question too, wasn't it? Outstanding. Thank you. I love all the questions.

I know, but we need that. A lot of public stuff about us. You know how you now. What? Don't matter what they say. Go ahead, Dibon. Coach, you said, obviously there's a lot of work to do. Day one and past, you've been installing their offense, OTAs, mini camp.

Now we're here in training camp. At what point would you think you'll be up to speed or feel comfortable? Obviously, you're familiar with Aaron, but a lot of new pieces, I would assume a new offense. At what point do you expect to feel comfortable going into the season? You know, that's a great question. I mean, that's why we're here. I mean, that's why you're practice. And that's why I try not to get too high or too low

when you have your first batted practice. And, you know, you have to wear your head coach had, you know, like this. You can get to flip it around sometimes and we're an offensive guy. So, yeah, it's, you know, we got a game here, you know, right around the corner. Aaron playing in that one? What's that? Is Aaron playing in that one? Yeah, I hope so.

Well, so what happens. What is your belief in preseason games? It has to change. It depends on where I think the team's at, and I think year one is different. So I would lean towards playing everybody in year. Oh, I can't wait to see that. Aaron's going to love it.

What has it been like working back with Aaron? And where are you at now versus maybe back whenever you and Aaron were winning 107 games together?

Siriani and Hertz 62. Has it been like picking up like the old days, offense and everything, or how has it been between you two?

Definitely. I mean, it definitely was like picking up where you left off. But a lot of it is just, you know, no nomenclature and terminology change and just getting in tune with that. But, you know, going back to the, you know, first part of it, do you play, you know, Aaron and, you know, every quarterback that I've coaches, the head coach, they all want to play. But then the flip side of it is, you know, those young guys can't play enough. You know, we got two young quarterbacks. Yeah, if I guess, I assume that is the case. But how has it been with Mike? I love being back with Mike. I mean, Mike and I have a lot of history together. You know, we were different places when he first came out in 06 to Green Bay. Yeah, Aaron. I'm looking at Pat and I'm looking at D.K. And you have Darnell. And you bring over Michael. him in. That's a lot of big bodies. How do you, like, how do you feel about big body wide receivers? Is that more contested catches or like, how do you feel? Because Roman obviously is smaller. He can make, he can create separations. But how do you feel about the room as a whole? I like the room a lot. I like, I like the size of our guys. You know, obviously, darnel is the

most athletic 300 plus player in the league, probably. Yeah. But I think, you know, those two guys when you're talking to them, they really like what we've been doing in the installs and the offense. and both of them been making a lot of plays. You know, I just, I really love their work ethic and their attitude. I think that's the most important thing, setting kind of the standard for the room. Roman's grown a lot. I think he's done a nice job in the spring, and he's had some plays as well. He has a different skill set.

You know, I say to stick in the league, you have to do something well. And to have a long career, you've got to have an excellent trait, and his is his speed. And he is legitimately one of the fastest guys on the field. all times and not the fastest guy. So when he's using that speed and, you know, he's dangerous. The thing of difference last year I felt like he was kind of like a deer running around, bouncing around. And now he's like a very finely tuned fast guy where he had to feel like he's playing almost more under control with that top end speed. And he's had a really nice spring and a nice start to camp. Can you tell me a little bit more about you and D.K.'s relationship? Because you guys

were working out of UCLA before you were a Pittsburgh Steeler, I believe, before it was announced last season. Then obviously last year you guys have some great connections. This offseason you guys are riding horses together. Now he's obviously over here knowing that you're about to cook the hell out of Tony Fauci. You know, he comes over your hands out. That's my first time getting eyes on this particular. I don't even

know what you would say about this. I mean, what is D.K. like? Specimen. He is a specimen. I mean, that's a compliment, obviously. You're an alien dude. It is an absurd thing. But what has it been like building and developing with D.K.? Obviously, you've had great wide receiver connections in the past. This is

very high profile, very public, and a Steelers very abnormal to have this type of wide receiver paid the way that he's paid. What has it been like growing with D.K.? What do you expect from him this year? What body type? He's like nobody I've ever played with. He weighs two-thirty-ish, two-twent, two-twent. And he's like 10% body fat maybe or less. He's, he's an absolute animal. But the thing that you realize, especially after going to Idaho is you have a lot of a lot of closeness with guys on the team. But last year, compared to this year, felt like we were teammates last year,

and this year were actually really close friends. So that's been really cool. And not that I didn't love them last year. Now they didn't love them last year, but we've been able to really... He choked up. He's crying. Oh, no.

He's crying over there. To bond and connect in a different way. And it makes a difference, for sure. He's my roommate over here at the dorms, and D.K. has a big heart. he's got a really big heart and he really cares about doing things the right way and I would say that if you want to know as you're if you're a young player you want to know what it looks like to be an NFL player and to practice the right way

And during this process of thinking if I wanted to come back or not, you know, obviously she was my biggest ally in helping me to think about all the different things that goes into it because it's not just so I want to play it's it's the grind of the season as can you be actually fully invested then what does it look like are you going to go do a trip are you going to how you're going to spend time of the guys what's your weekend look like and because it's a strain on not just the player but on the wife and the family if you have kids and you're you're basically all in together and I wanted us to make a decision together and you know she's she's incredible. And I'm excited about this year being able to do it one last time. And then excited about the next chapter, which is having kids. I know you, you're adding to it. This guy's got a bunch.
