Hello, beautiful people, and welcome to our Humbleyvote, the Draft Kings Thunderdom. On this overreaction Monday, September 7, 2026, this sports program begins now. Football! This is spectacular, isn't it? I mean, what a weekend. Week one of college football kicked off in a massive way. Had a absolute thriller last night as Ole Miss gets by, a huge win over Louisville, and then, don't look now, Wisconsin didn't look ass against Notre Dame.

Dame in the first half until they turned it on. Then Saturday night, obviously, LSU played late, late into the night as weather continued to delay all damn day after a college game day, lightning delay. The game kicks off at 840, 940 local, 1040 Eastern. That thing goes late into the night and I don't think LSU would have ever been stopped if that game goes until 3, 4 a.m. against that Clemson team. No pros, no problem for Lane Kiffin. Now, this makes you wonder about all of the jousting in public fighting and the ridicule and seemingly conjecture that was taking place about Lane Kiffin and his LSU tenure, whenever you watch them, just absolutely dismantle the Clemson Tigers. Now, this was the first year that Clemson was not in the top 25 in the AP poll before

the season started in a long time, so maybe a lot of people knew that this was coming, but just an absolute rumping of a team in opening weekend of a whole new era. You're dunking on a sideline. You got reality TV stars and influencers walking in with the team. You have the eyes of the entire college football world looking at injunctions in your courthouse. And then you just go on the field and pound a team. Just absolutely demolish them and showcase that you're bigger, stronger, faster than probably everybody you're going to play against. Sam Levitt, the quarterback, when he was at Arizona State, he can run. He can run, run.

And now he's all the way back after a Liz Frank injury took him out last year. He's running all over the damn yard. He's got weapons all over the place. and this LSU team, I think they want to kill people. They have really bought into the fact that they are the villains. They have really bought into, oh, everybody hates us, everybody hates us. Not just the team and obviously the coach, the entire fan base. The entire fan base loves it.

It was like that. Now, they all got out of there pretty quickly, okay, whenever that game started getting a little bit out of control. It was a long day down there in Baton Rouge. I think Lane understood. I think the team understood. And I think everybody that watched that game live or on TV says, wait, is LSU potentially going to make a run at this title? Is this the reason why Lane Kiffin left Old Miss?

Is he go downer so they can get more speed, more size, more physicality than maybe anybody else? And he brings his offensive coordinator in from Old Miss, who's an absolute wizard who has a green daughter, who can tell Sam Levitt, who has already made it to the college football playoff with Arizona State. You can tell Sam Levitt in his head to, hey, they got covered here right now. Look, see you're right. Zeko! Boom, he's just looking to us right.

They're playing video game stuff down there. That's what Lane Kiffin and his offense has the capability of doing, especially if they have the weapons. he looked, they looked unbelievable. They're not the only ones, though. There was great performances across the board. There were some ass performances across the board, and college football kicked off in a huge way.

What a wonderful time. We've got an NFL game Wednesday night. Yes, there we go. Patriots Seahawks kick off the NFL season on Wednesday night. I cannot wait to see what these teams look like after an off season for the Sayahawks that has been documented on hard knocks. It has been phenomenal to learn about this team. McDonald, the head coach there, young defensive guru.

Obviously, he gets hired as the defense coordinator for the ball. Baltimore Ravens, what's he going to do? All the offensive geniuses have been hired as head coaches. Now a young defensive genius gets hired as a head coach? Is this guy going to know game management? Because normally that's the offensive side of the ball. Is he going to be able to talk to the whole the team? Is he going to be able to keep up on the offensive side? Because you're going to have to lose offense coordinators if you have any success over there. He's had to manage all of that here in the first couple years of him being a head coach, and he won a Super Bowl. So I think the Seattle Seahawks are well on their way in this McDonald era to potentially be the next dynasty of the NFL.

And on the other side, speaking of dynasty, the greatest dynasty in the history of sports, the New England Patriots have a brand new pack to that. It's all around Drake May. Who was second place for MVP last year? Yeah, I should have been first, but yes. Well, there's some things coming out now with some voters saying some things and doing some things. Certainly it looks like that.

They've added weapons. This is a great way to kick off this NFL season after a spectacular college football week one. Football is dominant, and we're very lucky for that. You know who else is dominant? What's that? Team USA Women's National League. Basketball.

All right. 32 consecutive feeble world cup wins. We were in a close one. with Grazie. I mean, the Italian ladies were putting us through some hell. It felt like all USA couldn't make. Everybody in the United States of America that was potentially going to be on that team, I think yesterday was the day couldn't make a shot. Okay. It was just, it was a real barn burner with Italy. We sneak by. I think it was a nice wake-up call. Chelsea Gray down the stretch,

wanted the ball. Give me the ball. Give me the ball. Give me the ball. Boom. Bye. Bees stew. A lot of action. They went to the old guard. Down the stretch there. All the youngs basically off the court. Alia Boston was really the only new time or two, Feeble World Cup, and she's obviously one of the highest paid players in WMBA, been around a long time. Caitlin Clark couldn't make a shot. She's on a sideline.

Page is on the sideline. They went to the old guard out there, and we got a big-time win over Italy. This is happening. USA's about to win another title over the rest of the world. We definitely need to celebrate that. Now, let's go to the talks of table at Boston Conner and at Ty Schmidt. 40-0 for Iowa.

You never know there's a lot of, you know, question marks in the air every time you go into a new college football season. And listen,

I'm not going to act like Northern Illinois is the best team in the world. But when you have an ass beating like that and you dominate in all three phases of the game, which Iowa typically dominates in two phases of the game, not so much three. But boy, I'll tell you what, you know, it's start of the year. I'm starting to feel like, hey, this might be the year the Hawks break through and make it to the college football playoffs. Okay, because we were talking about Iowa on college game day. And I couldn't remember that man right there. Tony Diaz's name in real time.

I apologize, came from a smaller school. But we were watching highlights all spring and also through training camp of Iowa, throwing the football and completing it. That has not happened. First off season ever. Iowa's been a big time rugby football team for a long time. And this Diaz guy, we're doing body control in spring training in training camp. We're watching them make some real plays.

It's like, is this what the team's going to look like whenever push comes to shove? and they did, I think. Did it not look like that, Ty? What are you shaking your head for? So, I mean, yeah, he's unbelievable. He's arguably the most talented receiver I was had in a long, long time. But I personally believe Iowa has a top five, if not the best offensive line in the country. Camarie Moulton had 132 rushing yards in, you know, eight minutes of game time. So they're going to pound the rock. They basically just need a quarterback who's not going to turn the ball over. But when you have a guy like that who you can confidently throw it to on third and long, yeah, it's going to look a little bit different for Iowa. Maybe the Iowa Hawkeyes do pick up those big explosives that you need to continue to compete against the big time teams.

Now, that's a whole other conversation whenever you look at like LSU. Now, LSU team on paper, when you just look at size, dims, speed, everything, it's like, is there going to be a team that's more talented to them? Then they're able to piece it together. Now, how deep are they? This is the big thing. This is like when you're constructing your roster. How deep can you become whenever you have a lot of high-end type of talent? Now, granted, we know there's no salary cap in college football.

We understand they can spend and will spend whatever down there for Lane Kiff and his LSU team to get back to the national championship. Will they be able to withstand an entire season like this? Because if they are good for college football, the villains, which they have bought into, are showing up with some of the most explosion that they have. They're not the only ones, though. Big spreads this weekend for college football. What did the slate kind of tell us whenever we should maybe look ahead for guys? gambling down the stretch with the best sports book on earth. What did the slate tell us about going ahead here, Tom? Yeah, I mean, there was a lot of huge spreads this weekend.

A lot of these FBS top 10 teams playing lesser teams with 40, 50 points spread. You talked about Texas, Ohio State, IU, all those teams situations. So it's kind of hard. It's hard to take away in situations like that. like Julian saying in the first drive missed a couple throws, but then after that, sorry, excuse me, was unbelievable. Same with Indiana. You're getting choked up, me too.

I was, good balls, bad. That's 90-year NFL bet. I was yelling all weekend. Dude, I almost had a tear in my eye in that pregame show. I was very lucky and thankful to do that pre-game show alongside Des, Joey, Reese, right on the sideline. And I, like, looked around. At one point, it was live on air.

I obviously didn't have a mute button, so I was pretty apologetic afterwards. But I just looked around. I saw like 102,000 people that have kind of waited the entire day out. And I was like, man, this is beautiful. Like, this is what life is supposed to be. I got emotional, just like you are here while you're talking about these sprigs. Yeah, but so like it's, it's like what can you take away from week one? Because a lot of the, like this is a preseason game for a lot of those top 10 teams.

They're just kind of feeling it out. They're playing base coverages, stuff like that, running, you know, vanilla stuff on offense, trying to figure out what their guys are in situations like that. Like even Oregon and Boise was a super close game, but Oregon outgamed him by like 250 yards. So like, how do you, what do you take away from those? situations. I think you just want to see these teams be crisp and clean. And there was a lot of that this weekend from a lot of the top teams. And there was a lot of teams that you kind of have questions about now moving forward or was it just a week one thing? So don't take, it's hard not

to take too much from there. Like Notre Dame last night, everyone's like, oh, this team sucks in the first half. And then, you know, they kind of settle in and they win by 30 or whatever. They cover the spread in that situation. So it's kind of hard. What do you take away from week one? It's kind of the question for me from this week. Yeah, if you fell asleep during the Wisconsin Notre Dame game, you probably think Notre Dame asked. Maybe they just had a half where they had to figure it out, and the second half is who they are. And then on, you think about, I mean, it's hard not to,

but like Clemson, is this what Clemson actually is? Or they just run into an actual buzzsaw in the first week because they always talk about week one to week two being the biggest development of your team. I think we learn a lot more next weekend than we did this past weekend, but you have to get off to a hot start debuts. Yeah, you want to. Tony just mentioned it.

With no preseason in college football, you do have to really find out a lot of things when the real bullets are firing. So a lot of teams, we know all the movement that happens in the off-season but coaches, coordinators, all the transfer portal guys. So a team like LSU coming out, like, yeah, you have the talent, you have the coaching staff,

but actually putting it together and showing up and putting belt two ass on the national stage is impressive. And then the teams that you have the questions about, it's like, do they figure it out going down the line? Team like Clemson, you waited until, you know, the 11th hour to name a starter, and then you change the quarterback at halftime. So there's still questions there.

And then changed by them. Exactly. So it's still questions there with dabble. And that's a team that it's not like, you know, FBS schools playing against these lower, this is a big-time college program with big-time college recruits year in and year out. So what will they be going down the stretch? But yeah, just having ball back was electric. That environment was electric game day being back.

You guys, I think, did a great job, obviously, through all the shit with the weather. So I'm just glad we're back, man. That was LSU officials and ESPN safety. Sure. Saying that there was lightning within eight miles in a way it was going that we had to go inside. And with eyes that I have, I did not like that because I didn't see, you know, it didn't appear as if we were in danger. But obviously people that are much smarter than us in this field. I grew up in Donardo's town, though.

So I don't know you tell me, but they were looking out for us, which were very grateful. Shout to the LSU fans, because we told them multiple times, even door and break as we're heading in there. Like, hey, we're being told to be safe. Like you guys obviously can do it and should do whatever the hell you need to. Yeah, right. They sat that thing out. They didn't even leave. They didn't move.

They were sat there. We go back out there. They're alive yet again. It was so cool to be back. It was a lot of fun. Obviously, week one of the season, so there's new stuff. Obviously, it's getting rolled out and trying. But I think everybody did an incredible job.

We got a Hall of Fans now. Shout out to Old Grimson getting in there. It could be you. You show up and do something awesome. You get to the Hall of Fans. Shout out to Master Sergeant Cliff and his wife, Jennifer Volucci, who traveled all last year. They made another appearance.

They're going to do that game. We should say, and Bruce, missed $2 million. So close. It looked like you. No problem. Shout to Home Depot, by the way. Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah. That's incredible news. I wonder if they knew of week one, okay, we're going to do a... Right not. Let's get it. I just thought, because a lot of people have said, like, that's not, like, my money. That's not your money you're doing it. It's like, what company you think is just going to let me go out there and say,

hey, a million bucks if this random kid we've never met before makes a kick, we're going to give that to it. It's like no company's ever going to do that. And then give him a bunch more chances if you missed it. Yeah, no company's ever going to actually do that, especially, you know, like, we'll do a $5,000 kick, like a $2,500 kick, I think is pretty good. It's like, nah, the pressure of the money is what makes kicking, you know, kind of kicking. So we got to add that added element. So no company is just going to be open like, yeah, blank check, buddy, every single week, whatever you want

to do. And I think that's what makes it is the, we got to put the pressure on this. It's got to be life-changing forever. Like, can you make the kick in that particular moment? So Home Depot coming in saying, hey, we understand, we like it. And we'll match whatever you put in there. It's like, thank you. Like, that is so incredibly kind of you to do. There's going to be a lot of people that are going to benefit from that. We're obviously going to get into charity stuff as we continue to go, but I thought he was going to make a million-dollar kick to start off the season. Well, next week be a million-dollar kick?

Probably not. Can't have that be every week. No, right. Okay. We got to start. It was starting to season. It was start the Caesar there. Okay, let's pivot away from college.

Just so we can all be on the same page here. How many seconds in a minute? I'll say this. First of all, there can't be too many people who were at the game in 1994 where Michael Westbrook caught that pass from McQuirno Stewart. I was there, and I was at the game Saturday night. Now, I left a little bit early. I didn't see. I wasn't there in the stage. You left when the game ended, yeah.

Okay, that's what you're saying. you left when the game ended when Western Michigan was celebrating the win, and when clock hit zero, hey, when this clock hit zero, we're all going to look up and see what it was up. We need one plate of time. Don't look up. Do your job. When that scoreboard hit zeros, we will see where it all falls.

And then it turns out, from my understanding, Adam, you actually might know more about this because of your relationships and obviously Michigan being involved. And I think there's a lot of Michigan people that are necessarily like, I mean, we will certainly take the win going forward, but we don't know how that way, just as football fans in general, I think a lot of us are learning about a secret clock in real time.

Do you know anything about this, Shephti? And what are your thoughts as somebody that's watched a lot of football, we all have going, yeah, right. Like this game was certainly over. Big Ten's obviously come out, transparent. They said, we have this clock and match up with this. If there was tens of seconds, it would still have one second on, but since it doesn't, it's at zero.

That was released later, so there's already a massive onslaught of, yeah, right, I've watched football my whole life. That thing was at zero, bro. This is obviously a work for the Big Ten. What are your thoughts on it? I know you're very close to the process, but just how it's kind of all unfolded and the information you might have that we do not have.

You know, my father was watching the game, and he shut the game off after that play. I went to bed and told my mother in the morning that Newskine lost. And I said, no, no, no, they did not lose. They won. He's like, they won. So he had no idea after that play that seemingly was the end of the game right there. We were watching it.

I'll just say this. I guess they have to sink the clocks, but we're going by the TV clock, the TV clock. And based on the TV clock, that game looked over to me. I mean, it just did. Even as a Michigan fan,

I thought the game was over. Somehow they found a second. I don't know how they did it. I was not in charge of it. It was a very strange ruling to me, but they put a, not me, the officials, the Big Ten,

whoever it was. They put a second back on the clock. And it results in that play. and it was a big wing for Michigan, which did not play well at all. And it was a terrible loss for Western Michigan, which came into the big house and played a great game. Those guys played really hard, and they played well enough to win the game and probably should have won the game. I don't know where the second came from. And the great part was I was watching my two kids.

And my daughter is like, you know, what people forget is two plays back, two plays back that. There were eight seconds left. and I said to my son and daughter, Tom, like, whoa, he ran out of bounds. There were nine seconds left, and they put a second back on the clock two plays earlier. So they added the one second that came into dispute on the play in the back of the end zone right there. And then that led to the Hail Mary at the end of the game. So nobody's talked about the play from two plays ago where they added another second that became the second that became the difference in the game.

Yeah, so this is the video that the Big Ten was putting. out behind the scenes that, hey, we have tens of seconds on our clocks and how ours are run or all the way down to exactly zero. And there was a showing of this, I believe, on one of the side challenge cameras that was trying to show a bunch of the Michigan fans as well about how it got there. And there's like a video of that. But I don't think any of us who have ever watched football for our entire lives knew that there was some secret tenths of second clock somewhere else, because you keep talking about the TV camera, TV camera, or TV clock, that used to be an actual just shot on the clock. That's what it used to be.

before it was even like digitalized and everything like that. They used to have the clock be the stadium clock, and the refs always say, can you please put blank back up there? So I think every time they talk about the clock being an official timer of the game, since I've watched football, the one that is on the stands in there, I just think it makes us all very hard to believe that there's some secret one behind the scenes, but that's what Big Ten is saying. Big Ten didn't come out and say that, though, publicly,

until it was already gone that they're the most crooked and corrupt organization of all time. That is the conversation that was happening. I'm like, those are some very heavy accusations and allegations. I don't know if everybody should be as loud as they're being with this. There might be some repercussions, potentially. You're saying those in the microphones. But I think we all got pretty worked up about how this seems like a big work here. This seems like Western Michigan got absolutely jobbed in Michigan, in the Big Ten.

And then this comes out later. And then also Western Michigan came out and said, we agree. Okay, because they explained him. And then people were like, they were told, shut up. You're getting paid a million and a half. It was like, it was never going to get enough information or evidence after the on already happened. But now I guess we know that at least the Big Ten has this. We don't know who else has these types of things happening behind the scenes. Does the NFL have one of these? Because

we saw some of the NFL guys come out and go, yeah, but the clock and the clock on TV and us are always kind of working to be in the same time because it operates. It's just... The only time we do see it in NFL is with the delay game calls. And it seems like they're always a little lenient towards the offense or the quarterback where we will us as viewers, even as players on the field, we'll see the triple zero come up with a double zero in the back of the zone, and they kind of wait that beat until they blow the whistle for the delay of game. So that's the only kind of time I can remember refs kind of having their own clock that we don't see. But yeah, this was insane.

Yeah, I think we're all feeling the same way. Okay, we all feel the same way. Yeah, big time rigged it. That's how most of us feel. Would you have rushed to feel, Schefter, if you were still there and leave you? No. No, no. I was, again, I go back to 1994.

I had to be standing on the Michigan sideline when Cordell threw that pass to Michael Westbrook. I was right there. If you go back to the front page of the Rocky Mountain News, the next day there was Michael Westbrook and Quina Hugging, and I'm right in the background, like completely stunted and my school just got beat by CEO. I like you're bewildered out there about what happened in front of your face. That's a wonderful, here it is.

Yeah, I was running the field for that game. The Broncos were playing in Buffalo Monday night. I had to go to Buffalo, so I stopped in Ann Arbor to take in that game and write about it from the Rocky Mountain News. launches that rocket right there. Go back to that, please. Hold on, this is not being talked about enough, Schefter. He was on a 27-yard line.

There's Cordell Stewart. He'd go on to be slash. He was a punt returner, wide receiver. I think he played corner at some point and quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Oh, my God. Holy shit. Yeah, he had kind of. Oh, my God. I didn't know that.

Me neither. Hey, Cordell, appreciate everything you did for the seat. He punted for us, too, in Pittsburgh as a Steeler. I mean, he played every position. I didn't know he could seven. 23 yard that thing. That was absurd. I mean, that is outrageous.

Good for him. And what a win. This is obviously an iconic play that we need to revisit a little bit more often and put some respect on slash here, Cordell Stewart. Okay, let's move along. Western Michigan, we all feel the same way, bro.

We're all on your side. We have no idea how to fix it. Unless they start putting a tenths of seconds clocks up publicly on TV. Hopefully that'll be able to clarify things, but everybody on Earth thinks that the Big Ten cooked that four. Yeah, they got screwed.

That's how. Everybody feels. Even Michigan people. I mean, the amount of Michigan people that are texting me about how asked their team is and how they lost the western Michigan and how this isn't worse than App State, but this isn't a good start to an entire era of anything. Okay, let's move to football now. Our NFL football, Wednesday, Patriot Seahawks kicks off. And then obviously, Rams and Niners down there in Australia. We are just a few days away from NFL season kicking off. We know Roger Goodell got an extension. Congratulations to him. but there's also some news about some of the players. Puka will be playing, even though there's a lot going on. How is the exemption list play in play here? Is it not in play? How do you see these types of things kind of unfolding over the next couple weeks? I think there's a real possibility that Puka's going to go through the season unscathed

and not face any discipline for his part in that off-the-field incident with that woman where he was accused of allegedly, I guess, fighting her, whether he did or didn't her. Didn't do that. We'll see. but he's going to be out there on Thursday night against the 49ers. It doesn't sound like he's going to face any discipline this year right now. We'll see if anything comes of that. We're still waiting to hear about Alaric Jackson,

the Rams offensive tackle as well. But right now, look, the league placed Josh Jacobs on commissioner exempt. It placed the Broncos edge, Jonathan Cooper on commissioner exempt. It didn't do that with Bucca. It didn't do that with Larg Jackson. And so it looks like those guys right now are, in the clear for the time being. And he'll be out there Thursday night.

He's played through the sickness injury that he was having during camp. He'll be out there. And the Rams still, but they leave tomorrow. They leave tomorrow for Australia. The Knights of Midfair since last week, which is kind of wild. How about this one? This is going to be wild for you. Ready?

Okay. Reheme Morris, I have to double-check this, but I'm pretty sure. This is accurate. Rahim Morris turned 50 years old last Wednesday. He turned 50 the day that they were in the air, and he lost his 50th birthday due to the travel that they had to Australia. So he didn't really have much of a 50th birthday, but that's the way it goes for the opener. Yeah, and when he flies back, he already missed it as well.

So I think he's 49 still. I don't really do the map. It is like a time warp when you're in that plane over there. I'm eager to see the Rams reactions as they're in the sky, and they're told they have another 16 hours left, and the game is 24, 40. eight hours away just to see how the decision was made. But who knows who's right in this.

This has never happened before in Australia, especially a legitimate game, pumped to see it unfold and wrap up. What we do know is, after it was reported by Junior, you know, Jr. You know, Jr. Jr. reported that it would be impossible to start Tua right now. This guy, what this guy has done,

I don't even know how you roll him out there. You might, Jack Strand, is that the guy? Yeah, you might roll out Jack Strand over this. Tua has made it impossible to be. starter. Well, he's been named the starter. Tona has a question for you about that. Yeah, Chefty, everyone's wondering, did Tua win the job, or is this just a penix was not ready from an injury standpoint? Because I believe it was just a week ago that he was cleared to do 11 on 11. He had been doing seven on seven in individuals in camp before

that. So this was, was this a win for Tua, or was this just not ready for Pentex yet? I think it's a little bit of both, to be honest with you. I think Tua was better than people have led on the media. I think they were pretty happy with him. And they also know that he didn't take all the reps with all the ones the way that he would have to get him ready. They were fine with Tua. They thought he did a good job, but, but Pennix also did not have a chance to really distinguish himself, and it took him a while to get ready, and he still has only gone through a week of practice. It's been one 11-on-11 week of practice for him, so he needs more time to get ready. And I think that Pennix, at some point in time, you're probably sooner

around and later will get his crack and get his turn to be the starter. But they did not feel comfortable putting him out there right now, so much so that he's not even going to be the backup this week. Cooper Rush will be the backup and two will be the starter. So that's how it's going to roll this week where Pennix will be the number three. Cooper Rush will be the two. Two is the number one. And they'd like to it. He'd a solid summer. But Pennix just not enough time to get ready for that big name's really suffered last year. And there you see, it'll be the sixth different starting quarterback on opening day

If he was so good, what happened in Cleveland? It's like, well, he was hamstrung by the deal, you know, the $230 million guarantee deal. He had people over his head that were doing stuff.

Andrew Barr is kind of getting restarting his thing because everything that happened above his head. We'll give him relief. It's like clear that Stefansky's going with the veteran quarterbacks here. Cooper Cush has played a lot of football. Yeah. Tuotong Volo has played a lot of football. Michael Pennix has not yet had a lot of football in him.

Stephansky, how much time does he have down there? Who ends up going? How is it end up going? Certainly a fascinating dilemma. You know, the commissioner's exemption list is fascinating because he's like they see like evidence and they go, all right, yeah, yeah. And then this one not, like do players? when I hear there or they have not even started because maybe there isn't a trial thing.

That feels like a big deal as we go forward into what matters, what doesn't matter. Puka playing, though, is a huge advantage for the Los Angeles Rams. And for me, that tells me a lot of things about potentially what's coming for Puka, but I might be looking into it the wrong way. I think he's okay. I think the NFL would probably be safer than not safer in this particular situation with where the NFL is. So that's probably, I mean, we don't know it.

We have not heard the exacts. But for me, if Puka starts a season like this, with everything that's already happened. That's seemingly them saying something about how they feel. So if Pooka's able to get through another season, I'm going to talk about maybe offensive MVP type stuff here. Oh, yeah. With what Pook and Akua is.

And that kind of gets lost up in the conversation because Aaron and Miles Garrett are on the defensive side. It's like on the offense side, they might have the best player in football. And I know nobody really wants to think that about a wide receiver, especially a guy that isn't like a 4-2, 6-7 guy, but it's like Puka gets the ball, catches everything. He's impossible to tackle.

They use him a lot. McVey and he, love each other. They're very close, very tight. Not only as football coach and player, but like as humans, they side by side seemingly through a lot of different stuff. It's like, Puka's going to go crazy on Thursday. I mean, that is just an absolute fact, it feels like. Yeah, and everything you try. I believe he was second in offensive

player the year last year behind JSN. So yeah, BIPA being on the field is huge for them, especially opposite Devante and all those tight ends that they're going to use. Yeah, this is him not being on that, on the commissioners, exemplist is ginormous for them moving forward, obviously. Yeah, I think it's huge for the Los Angeles Rams, have one of the best offensive weapons playing for them. Joining us back again, ladies and gentlemen, Amanda was in a car.

so it's hard to imagine that he's going to play. He hasn't practiced since August 24th. I believe Barmar is not out there. We'll see if he can go. Nick Emanwari, at least was out there. It didn't sound like he's very far away, although I still think it's a little bit ambitious to think that he'll be back this early in the season. I think early in the summer they were not counting on that at the very least. So we'll see if he can make it back up in the air at best right now.

But it certainly seems like Trayvon Anderson is the one guy that we're not counting on for Wednesday night's opener in Seattle. Okay, Wednesday night opener in Seattle has one of the best corners in all of ball. Is he happy? Conman has a question for you. Yeah, Shepty, the other thing up in the air is Christian Gonzalez getting paid. where are we at on that? It feels as though every single report I see is that Christian Gonzalez is probably not getting a deal at least unless it's going to happen

within the next couple hours. What is the situation here? Have they gotten any closer? Should I expect Christian Gonzalez to be disgruntled the entire season and not starting on Wednesday night? Well, what I can say is that again, these things always can change. But as of right

now, talks are nowhere. And again, there always be a last second push and there always could be something that changes and we'll see how the two sides address it once the season's underway but i think as of right now it's hard to imagine that the two sides would be able to make up the difference to get a deal done by opening night again we've seen crazy things happen and i'm sure there could be another push to try to see if they could salvage it and get it done but right now as of yesterday i was told it was not close and we'll see if they could figure out anything by the start of the game. It didn't sound

like that was going to be the case. Then what, what is it specifically, Shepter? Because it feels like this should be pretty easy since Witherspoon just got paid. Is it the years? Is it guaranteed money? Like, what is the reason they're not even close? I don't know specifically, but I've never got the sense that they've gotten close here all along. And I'm going to guess, usually when that's the case, it starts with money. And I think Gonzalez wanted to be at or above where Witherspoon was. The Patriots have never been there, have not acting close to there. So I guess if you can't agree on the money, the years become secondary because money usually is the sticking point on all these things. And it certainly seems like for whatever reason,

these two sides have not gotten close. And I remember when Witherspoon was getting done, it was a Saturday morning on the phone with various people. At that time, Gonzalez wasn't close. Nothing since then has changed that. And as of yesterday, when I had checked in on it, I was told it wasn't close. So again, could something happen by tomorrow? Sure. They could have some conversation tomorrow, Wednesday that changes things.

It didn't sound like that was going to be the case. It was a Saturday morning. I was having my coffee. They were going to go underground. I sent a text and said, hey, this must be good for Gonzo. and they said absolutely not. Nothing has happened over there. Speaking of good for football,

feels like a hit stick is all the way back with the hit man. Go ahead, Ty. Yeah, Shethy, we heard over the weekend Harrison Smith's coming back to the Vikings on a one-year deal. Is this a situation where they don't necessarily love what they have back there or were they kind of just leaving the door open for him if he wanted to come back? And are they anticipating that he's going to start Sunday against the Packers? I think they're planning for him to be back.

And I think the door was always open. When you have a guy of that character, of that stature of that talent, he's always welcome back. And it always sounded like that that was a possibility that he was going to be back. Obviously, he just waited towards the end of the summer. And for whatever reason, decided to make it official, he's going to be back. And I think that they think he's got a real chance to be ready. And we've seen this happen before where you've got a guy that is so savvy and so season, they step in.

and it seems like they physically challenged himself and play above and beyond. Remember Philip Rivers in Seattle last year that first game. Like nobody thought he might be able to do what he did and he exceeded expectations. And I think Harrison Smith is a pro. He knows what it takes. And I think that they're hoping and believing that he'll be out there.

Yes, he certainly will. His disguises are what make him so special and his ability to be where he's supposed to be while appearing to not be anywhere near where he's supposed to be quite a heady player. I think he'll probably be able to understand where his body's at. what the limitations are at the moment and figure it out in real time. We as a football community are happy. You're back, Harrison.

Oh, yeah. Let's try to get him on the all-DB team because I know there's been some trails blazed over the last couple of years. Is that all right? Certainly, him entering year 15. I mean, he's been playing at a high, high level for a very long time. And you have to kind of mention knowing the ends and outs of this defense as versatile as he is when it comes to disguising fooling quarterbacks. Now, obviously, missing training camp and all that stuff, not playing football.

That's obviously a question mark or something to look forward to. but he knows how to get his body ready to go. I'm sure he's been pushing himself in the offseason, just like Aaron Donald was. But I can't wait to see the hit man back on the field. Hey, what do we miss, Shafti? What have we not brought up? What do you have?

A few things for you. First of all, we got Emeka Abuka back at practice today for the Bucks, which is good news. He's been dealing with a toe injury all along. Jonathan Brooks is running off to the side, not practicing with the team. We're waiting to see, again, what happens with him. and I think his status for week one is up in the air.

He said, Soreness, the Panthers running back. We've been waiting for to get back. And, of course, we have the game Thursday night between the 49ers and the Rams. And I don't believe that there's still a final decision on George Kittle yet. We're waiting to see whether or not he plays. I know he made the trip. And look, he may be out there, but we do not know that yet. So we're still waiting to see.

Shepty, if you're a couple of, from an injury. Yep. And you don't know. Are you hopping on and signing up for 34 hours of airplane time instead of maybe doing recovery or rehab or something like that? Honestly, it's a genuine question. And everybody's, like, so jacked up, it's like, oh, yeah, we get to do Thanksgiving right now. Nice holiday. Great. Lovely. One of the best, yeah. Christmas as well. Yeah, but we would always have practice or something on those days. You know, even when you're not playing, you're at least in the building.

Yeah. And shout it to the holiday season. That's right around the corner. the best holiday is that it's football season. Bingo. And this past weekend was spectacular. College football had their week one slate still finishing and wrapping up this evening.

Who's Florida State? Who's SMU? We find out tonight as week one officially closes. But to kind of recap what happened this past weekend, ladies of gentlemen, it's time for Reese's Paces from the weekend with Reese David. Hey, Reese, I just want to let you know. Great work on Game Day.

You handled a lot of different chaos. That was obviously happening that people know about. and don't know about. It was an honor to get back into the saddle with you, pal. It was a great weekend, a lot of fun.

I think it starts where we were, Pat, in Baton Rouge with LSU. Now, we wonder what's it going to look like, got Pete Thammel out of the courthouse finally. And then LSU comes out there and they look like a championship contender from the jump. great defense, whip weeks. Prince William Allen sort of dominating things there for LSU. But the one question I had is great as Sam Levitt looked, and he was outstanding running the football. Ran for over 100 yards in the first half, 100 yards plus in the game.

Will he be able to do that? And is that what LSU has to do to be able to run the ball consistently? I don't know if it is. It's a weapon. I know this. They can extend plays. They can pick up first downs when everything looks broken with him. and that to me makes them look like a championship contender

at the risk of overreacting the first week because Clemson might also just flat stink and it certainly looked like that at time. The other championship contender that I saw on the weekend and maybe I'm just trying to make a preseason prediction come true, watching Notre Dame last night, and I know there were a lot of Notre Dame people probably worried about the early part of the game and thinking back,

you know, half of Marcus Freeman's losses have come in August or September. Here we go again, the mediocre Wisconsin team. Instead, Notre Dame took advantage of the break. They got to turn over in special teams. Close at halftime. They bided their time. And when the opportunity was there, they seized it with DJ McKinney, getting this pick six.

You're seeing there that really broke Wisconsin's back, finished the game, and CJ Carr put together some great drives. They were like a boa constrictor. They just waited, waited, waited, squeeze, squeeze, and finally squeezed the life. out of them. That's what I want to see from a championship contender. I think the Irish are on track, the slow start, not worried about it in the least. Another slow start, I don't know if I'm worried about or not. You have Boise State, Wisconsin. Now, first let's start with Boise State, lost by a touchdown at Austin Stadium to Oregon. Maybe we're all trying to get too

cute about who the best team from the group of six is going to be at the end. He said maybe Memphis, maybe Navy, you know, before the Memphis UNLV games. Some people had UNLV. Maybe it's just Boise. And maybe Oregon, I don't know if they're as good as we thought early on, but they don't have to be right now. When they've got guys like Decorio Moore that can put on the brakes on your right at the end and then make big explosive plays, which really to me, that was the difference in this game. It was easier for Oregon to score than it was for Boise State. Not worried about Oregon yet, but I did expect a little more dominance from them than I saw. And I think Boise might be as good as anybody in the group of six, but it's still a little early

there. Then the thing I think, yeah. Yeah. So then, yeah, okay, I'm excited for this. I'm pumped about this from you because you are. Needs you here, Reed. Yeah, hey, you are wanting to be authorities, I think, on college sports. I think you understand that positioning of who you are. I think you try to uphold that as well. You're one of the representatives of all of college football and college basketball, but certainly for college football, you're one of the only people that get to speak to the people that are actually making decisions. It's like, what you say carries a lot of weight for a lot of different things. And I'm excited for you to get into this. You're talking Michigan right now, right? I'm going to talk Michigan right now. Okay. Listen, Bryce Underwood comes down that tunnel skipping.

I think you were with me whenever I saw that. I was standing next to Desmond Howard and I go, is that 19th is your quarterback, right? And he goes, yeah, I go, I've never seen that before from a quarterback ever in my life. Have I ever seen a quarterback do that? Now, was I pseudo talking shit to Desmond Howard in real time as it was happening saying, wow, I've never seen a quarterback to that. Did that prompt me to put a tweet out saying, wow, never seen a quarterback do this? He might go wild. He's going to go wild or whatever. You know, first drive, not terrible. Okay. Then it got into, not good football anywhere. Very bad. Not good football at all. Then he hits a 60 yard after regulation has ended

potentially. Hail Mary. We don't think that's a wild afternoon in Ann Arbor. Okay, just for everybody that was killing me, but nonetheless, a lot of things I've never seen before with that Michigan game, how it was starting, how it went. And then certainly the ending, Reese, can you make some sense of this all, please? And kind of give us something to think about as we go forward with how we should view this? I don't know if I can make any sense of it because I don't remember anything quite like this. Now, I've seen games where seconds have been added to the clock. I sort of chuckled in our meeting this morning when Nick Saban talked about if we ever seen anything, I immediately thought, yeah, there was that whole kick six thing.

where you got the second at the end right before the attempted field goal. But it wasn't like this. And I understand everybody wants to get it right. And I understand 18th foot was out of bounds. And technically the clock is over when someone who's been out of bounds touches the ball. But there are a couple of things here, Pat. One, I feel like there ought to be a natural conclusion to a play that we get to before we start splitting hairs over a clock. But even bigger than that, we can't have some.

secret synchronized clock in cameras that nobody knows about. There has to be one clock now and then present it to the television audience. And in addition to that, and I think you brought this up in the meeting too, let's hear what, if we're going to get down to this kind of thing and super synchronized secret strobe synced clocks, I need to hear what everybody's talking about in real time when it happens. So I need to hear, okay, hey, look, they're looking at this. Let's go live to the the command center for whatever officiating bodies running this show. And this is what they're looking at and why. Because, you know, it's one of these little things that's funny in football.

And I understand end of game situations are different. But throughout the course of the game, middle of the second quarter, maybe the ball spotted here on the 28. Maybe it's the 28 and a half. I don't know. Somewhere in there. We'll put the ball down and play the next down. Then we get to other times when we're trying to look at a replay to spot the ball.

And now we're trying to look at a replay to get a tenth of a second back on a clock. when we don't even have tents on the clock. We need to be more transparent than this. The other thing is you can't say definitively, but man, it is really hard to imagine if the rolls were reversed that Western Michigan would have gotten another swing at that. I don't know.

Look, you can't prove that. You know, and I heard you talking to Shephti about, you know, how you want to be balanced when you say things like that. But that's the first thought that comes to a lot of fans' mind. I think the Broncos would have gotten another shot at that? No way. No way, especially after, what, Whittingham's already on the field holding up at W?

Whittingham's already on the field, like they were celebrating it all. Alumni and everybody associated with Michigan is putting out, man, we suck, okay? That's what they're putting out. And then everybody has to delete. Oh, actually, let's delete that. We're actually undefeated. So don't know how to tell you that this is not the case at all. I just, to your point about the transparency of the replays, the XFL did it.

They had a guy on an Xbox remote controller, and he was directly to the ref, and we watched him fast forward, slow it down, fast forward stop and saying, looks like he's down at about the 32. Let me look at the other angle. Yeah, we're not seeing anything that says he isn't down to 32. I think that's third down, ball into 32 first time. And for all of us, it was like, hey, at least we know the Y here. Then the ACC, I think he's trying it now, right?

Don't we have a little bit of that happening? But the ACC is starting to do it. Friday nights maybe. People love it. Yeah, big fan of it. I think XFL is very good because then one of you presented, it's like, well, they're not going to want you to hear it, you know, the NFL or any of these big schools because, you know, if they're wrong and then it's a big deal. It's like, well, if you're wrong, there's a chance of narrative just get started about your entire league, basically, that's basically saying you screwed a smaller school to take care of one of your bigger schools. It's like, that's the worst narrative that can come out about you being a crooked organization.

So if we hear this in real time, and at least it's a part of the story as opposed to a defense of the story later, maybe people, people could say, well, you heard what they said about the blah, blah, blah. And it's like, at this point, the narrative's already gone to what you said about Western Michigan's never going to get it. And it's like, you run this back. It's like, what? Okay. Okay, dude, this sounds like something you would say if you were trying to cook it a little bit.

It's just a lot of bibles, I think. A lot of different bibles. And you could also make the defense kid of Western Michigan. He went to jump to side. He knew he was out of bounce. He saw the clock hits here. I was just like, I want to get my hands on the ball. He saw that in real time.

He would have potentially just kind of let that go. So then that second ends because it hits something back there. He could in theory say that. Like, well, I saw the clock. So the clock in the stadium that is re-sync to the refs doesn't matter. Is that what we're hearing? Yes, kind of. Yeah.

They wanted to be the same, but apparently they say they have a strobe-sinked clock with all of the cameras that they have access to that may or may not be precisely synced with the television clock, At least that's... I can't even trust the damn clock anymore. After our refs says, can you put 47 seconds back off on that clock? We should all say, why?

Doesn't matter. Please just give us a guesstimation. About a minute. Just do it like soccer. Just run it out. No, no way knows. Every time. Keep playing.

What were your thoughts on those two teams? weekend, obviously playing lesser competition. Both of them blew them out. You know, the quarterbacks looked okay. There was some stuff here and there, but what were your thoughts on those two teams going into a huge matchup this next weekend? I thought they were biding their time for this week.

They flexed some weapons. Texas showed off a lot of their new weapons. I know Arch had a tough pick, but I thought that overall they probably opened up a little bit more offense to him. And he was really good, you know, the last month or so of last season. I thought by and large he picked up where he left off, having Cam Coleman out there and Hollywood smothers in the backfield, just going to make them terrific. Ohio State's as advertised, but we're not going to really find out about Ohio State's rebuilt defense. I know they're, I know they've got great players, but maturing into those positions and producing at least close to the level of those guys last year, we'll know a lot more about that Saturday. I don't like it all what happened to

Arge before that game started. Because you remember when the Oregon Duck came running down and lost its head. Oh, yeah. That was crazy. You see how Oregon season ended? Yeah, you're right. Okay, you saw how that end. It was not good, okay?

That might have been all the way back to that. I don't want to blame said duck, but, hey, they made some rules to change that. Hopefully that doesn't happen again. Do you see arch running on the field? Oh, yeah. Boom. Can't happen.

but I don't think there is much doubt that the best week one performance was LSU, I mean, at least to me. I mean, it was a great win for Ole Miss. There were some great wins for a lot of other teams. Even I think Oregon had a really solid win. And if Boise State turns out to be really good this year. But I think the best performance, if you were doing a power rating week to week, LSU would have to be on top, I think. Yeah, that was outrageous to watch them.

As we, the program, will get into our best weekend yet, okay? It potentially was, I think it was. AJ, you'll lead us off with this entire thing. Your thoughts and your best weekend yet, your favorite part of it. Yeah, obviously I think Reese was right. You know, Ohio State seems to be as advertised. And you're in kind of a weird spot when you're such a huge favorite. Like if a team gets one first down or they make one play, people freak out and think, you know,

oh, what are we doing? We're not what we thought we were. But I think they are who we thought they were. Jeremiah Smith, obviously. Look how he holds that ball out of one hand. Like, all right, here we go. Let me catch us on my helmet and then stick it out there. But all the attention that he grabs, it's fun to watch this Ohio State offense.

I think they're continuing to get better and better. But I'll tell you what, I'm excited about some of these young bucks on the defense, man. Some of these guys we have not seen play yet and getting some of their first action. He'll go number 34 right there. You see Wilder absolute freshman. I don't think he has any stats on the stats sheet. he just absolutely is a destructor. Like this guy, you talk about like block destruction

when they're trying to block him, splitting double teams. Hump moves looks like Reggie White at times in the backfield. So a guy like him, I am very, very high on him, and I'd love to see him pop up on the film when he turn it on. I like that new coordinator on the offensive side, we're able to get it done, new players on the defensive side, able to get it done. It does feel like maybe the best part of the best weekend yet for AJ.

It should be that the Ohio State Buckeyes, maybe are who we thought they were. Let's continue to bounce around our favorite moments of the best weekend yet. these Florida boys. Quarterbacks, DBs, okay. We'll get you some offensive linemen if you need it, but it does feel as if the explosion out of South Florida is certainly benefiting both the Keynes, all the way back and Ohio State. Malachi Tony seemingly, he's on so Ryan Paganetti,

football genius, football nerd through and through, you know, I put out the tweet that Baby Jesus is about to have a biblical season. Like this is about to be crazy because of his first 20 minutes and if Ments is going to be able to play like that, man. I mean, this is going to be a problem for a lot of people, obviously certainly in the ACC if you pick somebody else, what a decision.

He was on pace to have 102 touchdowns after that first quarter. I mean, it's like, great tweets. I mean, you look at him and you see obviously the explosion, you see the route running, but the things that don't show up, AJ was just talking about in the 34 in Ohio State, the things that don't show up on the stat sheet. Like, you watch it, we were boots on the ground watching this scene last year in the playoff room.

You watch him block. You watch him do the other things. There was a clip that came out early in the game where he was wide open down the field, didn't get the ball thrown to him. Somebody else made a play. He's still dancing to celebrate. So that's kind of who this guy is behind the scenes in the locker room. I mean, this is unbelievable.

We have D1 guys out there looking absolutely ridiculous. Now, that's terrible, terrible. terrible effort by number four there, but dominates for Malachi, Tony. Yeah, that's a tough guy. another trigger man. The way they've gone through quarterbacks down there, we talk about Signetti being able to evaluate talent, which we'll certainly talk about here in a little bit. But also, Christobal has been good at finding out who he needs for his particular system. And they went through a lot to get men's out of Duke. Obviously, Duke, reigning ACC champions.

That's right. Miami has never won the ACC. Okay, Miami has never been the ACC champions. Crazy. Okay, never won it. I think they're the best team in the ACC. And when I was asked to pick the ACC champion, I picked the UNC just because, like,

the ACC has chaos. Like, the ACC does not make a lot of sense. The Duke is the reigning ACC champion. I don't think people really remember that or think about that. Their quarterback is now the guy spinning it to Baby Jesus right there. There was a couple lawsuits, I think. There was some holding stuff that took place. They really wanted them, and it was obvious why.

Yep. Yeah, I mean, he might be the best quarterback in the entire country. Now, speaking of quarterbacks, quarterbacks throw football forward. Ty Schmidt, what was your favorite part of the best weekend yet? Yeah, I mentioned this at the top of the show, but the Iowa Hawkeyes are all the way back. And that's what it was. All offseason is, hey, we got two quarterbacks here. Both these guys might stink.

Don't really know who, you know, is going to start. And then, you know, in comes Tone Diaz. You know, you mentioned him. Diaz is it? You mentioned him on game day. And a lot of Iowa fans were thinking, you know, this guy's got an offer from Alabama. Basically every big time program wants him. Why the hell is this guy committing to Iowa?

What the hell is wrong with him? Does he have mental issues, potentially? Because if you have Alabama and all these other schools coming after you, why are you going to Iowa? What are you doing? And maybe that's why. Right away, on his first possession as a Hawkeye, he has three catches for over 50 yards, catches a touchdown.

They haven't had a guy do that in, I don't know, 15 years, something like that. And maybe that's what he's thinking is I can go and kind of be the change I want to see in this program. But it's more than that. You know, you mentioned, you know, Pennsylvania, you know, offensive linemen. Offensive linemen are built and bred in Iowa and at the University of Iowa. Everyone knows it. We saw it again over the weekend. Again, Northern Illinois is not great.

But, boy, Iowa just beat the shit out of those boys. They didn't have, you know, we're talking, you know, their offensive line and their run game. I get it. But we also talk about Phil Parker's defense. They lost a lot of starters. Northern Illinois didn't have a first down until like seven minutes left in the third quarter and it was because of kind of a phantom PI call. And, you know, special teams, we saw it up there again.

They run another pumpback for a touchdown. Evan James, just kind of another guy. It's all these things that you expect from Iowa and they just continue to do them, continue to do them with new people. And if they have a quarterback who's just like half worth of shit, I'm not expecting a guy to go out there and win a husband. I wanted to raise heck all on team. Just average play.

Yeah, just average play. You did want to raise heck of it? No. Okay, what can Brian do for you? I'm a Hank Brown guy. The heck arrow. It was great. It was great.

I'm done with that. I want Hank Brown in there moving forward. So I'm feeling great. And, you know, after a weekend where the Big Ten was kind of, I don't want to say lackluster, they went 14 and two. But I'm coming out of that weekend thinking I was one of the best four teams in the Big Ten without it now. Okay. I'm excited for you. So you're saying it's a lot of styleies across the park.

A lot of stylies out. there for the Hawks. And, you know, that's, that's what we expect. And boy, what a treat it was on Saturday. I love that now you guys have a wide receiver. So this amplifies it even more about not being able to have a guy that can get a ball to it. Yeah. You know, so I didn't know where... And even that touchdown you saw. I mean, what a cat, you know, Hank Brown throwing a 12-yard slant 8,000 miles an hour as high as he can, really made Tone Diaz go up and get it for his first one. So we'll see, you know, there's going to be... There's going to be plenty of Saturdays where I'm going to be screaming until I'm blue in the face because Hank Brown is.

Oh, and the raining defending national champions, the Indiana Hoosiers. They took on North Texas and Neil Brown this weekend. You know, everyone had questions about the quarterback Josh Hoover coming from TCU. This man was beaten and bloodied after he had his helmet twisted around his neck. It's down his jersey, down his pants. He can barely see. And he throws another touchdown to Charlie Becker. that answered all the questions I had to see about Josh Hoover in this one.

And I bet his teammates absolutely love this. Him taking a beating just so bloody looking like JJ Watt, throwing the touchdown to Charlie Becker. All those questions about Josh Hoover. Yeah, it was North Texas, but he played a great game through a touchdown to Nick Marsh on the first drive as well. I think IU's going to be just fine on offense. Yeah, I think they are.

And you saw that sold-out stadium. It's amazing what football can do to an entire community, entire state. Incredible catch, incredible throwback shoulder there. No coverage can stop. that no matter who you're playing against. If they're going to be like that all year, that's certainly going to be problematic. Charlie Becker, two touchdowns, $2,000 donation by us and also by him. And I believe Joe Buck has confirmed he'll be donating as well.

Oh, that's Joe. Yeah, kind of put him in a, remember, we publicly pressured him to joining us. And then I got him when you had a couple drinks in him. And I said, hey, said you're going to donate. So we're all pumped to kind of help out with Charlie. It does appear as if Indiana does have the capability of being able to run it back. They're going to have to figure things out. William Pop Watson III played like William. Wallace the third. He led the UMass Minutemen all the way to victory. And it wasn't just him. That is a high school teammate of his, Joseph Griffin, the pride of Springfield Central. I mean, it was just remarkable. This started the weekend off. By the way, this was on Thursday night, so it's hard to remember all the amazing things that happened from then to now. But watching the UMass Minutemen win a football game on the road against a Big Ten team was just pure joy, elation. We are not that far away from last year where they were down

45 to nothing, hit a field goal, and then set off fireworks at home. And now, not just one season later, Pop Watson III, is leading these boys on the road to a victory against a Big Ten school. The zoo, UMass,

was probably ballistic. I'm not so sure that you in Game Day and all the boys are going to be visiting UMass, maybe week eight, when they're 7 and O playing some other school. And it would be pure madness. I'm hoping that's what happens. I don't know how many UMass games are going to be catching this year just on a week-to-week basis.

But Pop Watson, the third is electrifying, just to get his stat line out there. 19 to 22, 197 yards, three tuds, 40 rush yards. Like, he is a legitimate ball player. He might be either in the NFL next year or the quarterback of your favorite team, because he was a stud for that entire game. Let's talk about some of your range. We'll obviously dive into the NFL in a matter of moments, but this Michigan thing fascinating. I think our platform should be utilized from football people saying they've never seen this before

and they all think it's crazy as we move forward. Do you want to kind of check that box on our show saying that you think it's absurd what happened and how did it happen? Or how do you view the whole extra second on the clock situation? Yeah, it's probably the most embarrassing. win I've ever seen in college football. I know that.

I have a lot of football. Yes, we knew you had something. Yeah. I'm happy to give you a chance to do that. Yeah. Yeah. A lot. Here's my thing.

How am I, as a viewer? I have no skin in the game. Supposed to just trust that that clock is synced up with the actual play. Like, I'm just supposed to trust it, even though the game clock that I'm watching. Also, I can't see the ball. I don't, I can't see the ball from that back angle. So with all due respect to the Big Ten, because I could see the ball in this angle, I can't see the ball. So I don't know exactly when the player touches it.

I can make the guess and the assumption. Is it there? I have no idea. But you go from the other angle, the ball, when the ball is going towards the defender, and you can see clearly that the clock is zero before, not this angle. Not this angle, Foxy. You go to the one where you see from the field perspective, essentially. You see the defender go up, you see the ball.

The clock clearly is at zero before it touches the defender at that angle. So I don't know how I'm supposed to just believe that the reverse angle is the reverse angle. Like the clock clearly hits zero before he touches it there. You slow it down even more we did it on. So I don't get it. Yeah, none of us understand it. And we've been watching ball a long time and now we're being told about a different clock. It's like, well, so does any clock matter?

And then why is the ref going off that clock then ever? Right. So, like, then that clock should mean nothing to the ref ever, right? We should be going off the actual clock. They're like, well, that one sinks up with the actual clock. It's like, but it doesn't, though, because we just found out. Can't have it. And then look where the ball on this angle.

This is the one, Foxy. No, that's the game winner. Yeah. The first one. Look at the, look at where the, um, the ball goes with the defender on this one. It's not like he goes and, you know, touches it at its high its point. It's basically waste before he touches it. So that's why that reverse angle, it's like, I have no,

deal with the ball is and you're trying to tell me a tenth of a second matters here. Yeah, I think we all feel that same way. And then Reese Davis said, do you think Western Michigan's getting that extra 10th of a second back on the clock if it's off it's reverse? And it's like, well, that's immediately what everybody thinks. So that's going to be a little bit of a, it feels like a cloud. Western Michigan did come out after they saw the angle with the clock in a tenth of a second and a super duper clock.

This is a real clock? You guys don't have this clock. You're the Mac. We're the big 10. We have real clocks around here. It's like, does anybody else have this clock? And do we need to know about this for any other leagues or conferences? or is the XFL using this?

Who all has the super duper secret clocks? NFL better. And when do we get to know about them and how if they work or not? We just trust that the one we're looking at in real time is the right one? I don't know. Do the refs have somebody in their ear saying super duper clocks two seconds off? And then they have to re is that when they have to recalibrate the clock? How am I supposed to know when he touches the ball?

Yeah, none of us know, Dan. Let's move along. Let's talk about football, shall we? Matthew Stafford, obviously down in Australia, taking on Brock Purdy down in Australia. We haven't really chitch out about much about how this affects the offense,

how this affects the game, the travel and when they travel and how they travel. Can you just... Hook is playing. Should we just expect prime time pro bowl Matthew Stafford week one there? MVP Matthew Stafford week one?

Or is there a rollout process that has to happen for every single team? No, I think that you expect this offense to kind of pick up where it was last year. This offensive line is intact. The perimeter play. are healthy, both backs are healthy, and Matthew, obviously, has had a healthy offseason in comparison to last year. So, yeah, I fully expect this offense to play the way we're

accustomed to it now. San Francisco, obviously, a very good defense and very talented defense. We'll see what Bose is like coming back from the injury, Michael Williams, his impact on their defense, Fred Warner being back. But yeah, I expect this Rams offense to kind of click on all cylinders the travel thing i can't tell you whether that'll impact them or not i i know this i've you guys probably have as well i've gone to london a couple times i'm not saying they're the same i remember a time we went to london we were playing the chiefs so this is probably like 2015 maybe maybe 16 and we went out there i was with detroit this was our third or fourth time going out there we went out there five or six days before did the whole get them a getting a custom two

We stayed, blah, blah, blah, all that. The chiefs flew in and landed sometime, like, Saturday night at, like, six. They did a walk through at Wembley. And I was thinking to myself, we're going to destroy them tomorrow morning. They just flew over here. They have no shot. They beat us, like, 45 to 10. It was an absolute beat down.

And they were significantly crisper than us. So, you know, my brain at that moment was like, oh, our travel advantage is, you know, big, and that was the alternative. So I don't know how much it'll impact or not impact. I have no clue. You talk about the London trips. There isn't 100% science or either, because then there will be another team that travels out there earlier.

They've played well. So it's like, I don't know if there is a right answer. All I do know is coming back, you still have 16 more games. So coming back, I think, is what everybody is probably more worried about than maybe just one game here to lead this whole thing off. But what should we expect from Brock Party in the offense? Nobody really talks about that. Shefter said he can't.

put his name and reputation on the line and say that George Kittles plane. He said, I can't say that. It's like, well, he flew to Australia. If he was worried about recovery or rehab, maybe, hey, what's up, lad? What's up, lad? Who's behind you right there? There's a boy. There's a boy behind you. Other side.

But certainly an angle that could be had as we head into football season here, obviously all, you know, trying to do. We're trying to do, okay, let's get to San Francisco 49ers. We haven't really heard much about the offense. We talked to Brock Purdy about his John Deere partnership. Yep. Okay, which is obviously a huge deal, that Deer isn't being stamped on anybody. Brock Purdy now considered a vet in the league.

I think all the questions about whether or not he's going to be able to make it, even whenever he was playing good, have kind of been answered. What should we expect from this particular offense? Debo's back over there. We assume Kittle's going to play. Yeah, Purdy's a stud. Let's live in the world where kiddle plays. Obviously, kiddo is their go-to guy.

The guy that you guys are watching Stribling is an absolute stud. I remember watching him in the college football playoff last year. I think it was, was it the Georgia game that he was just absolutely dominant in and just going, this stribling guy is phenomenal. I mean, just the way he plucks the football, the strength that he plays when he's got a little, watching him in San Francisco and maybe it's the number. There's a little crab tree to him. in regards to just the strength that he plays with.

So I think he's going to be their go-to, wide receiver pass catcher. Remember, Ricky Pearsall, no, Jennings is gone. So he's kind of their go-to pass-catcher, I would say. I think Debo and McCaffrey's still going to be a bunch of touches guys. The big question mark for me, and maybe isn't going to be the biggest answer week one against if Donald plays this defensive line. But they really have to get back to running the football better in San Francisco. that offensive line for years had been a strength.

I would tell you had become a weakness over the last two seasons. It was a little bit better last year than it was in 24. I would also tell you, Kyle always, always does a good job against the Rams because they know each other so well. So there might be people going into this game thinking one-sided, you know, question marks health-wise for the 49ers, Rams are loaded. I don't brought by to that. I think Kyle Shannon's too good of a coach.

Okay, that's Thursday, 820 on Netflix live from the Melbourne Cricket Grounds, the home of the Collingwood Magpies. You see the boys walked into the other night, got a chance to experience it. I've had a chance to go to one of those games, an Ozzie Rules football game, has a soccer atmosphere, you know, because it's a lot of passive stuff. And then there's a lot of beers. I mean, a lot of beers. I forget the name of the beer that I was drinking down, but I know.

Fosters? Maybe it's a dumb. Fosters? Australia, you for Bay? I don't think they're drinking that. mess with flawlessly. Yeah, I don't think they're drinking that day. And I think that's for I think that's for the Americans to just say, oh, I've been down on day, you know, and it's so far away they thought nobody would ever find out. I don't think it is getting, not where I was at

at least in Brisbane. But yeah, the lads got a chance to experience it. The Melbourne cricket grounds gigantic, a lot of investment, and I think it's going to provide a great environment for American football. Now, I am worried about how wide and big the fuel. is, are the guys going to be like, are the fans too far away almost? I don't know how they're going to... Feel like a baseball? Like we're in college? Exactly. Like an awkwardly placed game, you know, and like when

hockey plays inside of a stadium how there's a lot of space between the crowd. I'll be intrigued to see what that spacing looks like, but it should be electrifying. 8.20 on Thursday. Now, Wednesday night is when the season kicks off with the Super Bowl champs, and go ahead, Convan. Yeah, Dan, I know you think the Patriots are going to go 9 and 8 or

10 and 7 and the bills are going to win the division, but it all starts on Wednesday and they can kind of flip that narrative around. How do you see Wednesday night going? I know for the Seahawks they have first time O.C. and play caller, Brian Flurry. Nobody seems to know anything about this

guy, so that'll be interesting to see. What are kind of the biggest things you're looking at on both sides of the ball for New England and Seattle as they both start their new campaigns back to the Super Bowl? Yeah, number one, does Gonzalez play? I would assume he does, and Shephti might know more, but

I would assume he does. And if he does because, and let's say they do not get a contract done by Wednesday. I think the number one thing I'm doing if I'm Seattle offensively is how much are you willing to tackle on the perimeter knowing you haven't gotten your money yet? And because I grew up with a coach that subscribe to the philosophy that if you were playing against a premier cover corner, the first thing you do to start those games is to see how much that cover corner wants to tackle. So I'm taking that same philosophy.

We used to do this with like Antonio Cromarty all the time. Great corner. How much do you want to tackle today? And so how many different ways can we kick screens out there and have a tackle go to block him? How many different ways can we go to crack toss? And so I think that's something to pay attention to in this game, number one, is how Seattle treats him.

I think the second thing, Connor, and I would say, going back, I went last week and rewatch the Super Bowl, we probably didn't give enough credit. That defense in New England in that game was sensational. And it got overshadowed by how good Seattle's defense was in that game. But you watched that game and you're like, my goodness, New England's defense was sensational, man. And they flew to the football.

They gave up obviously those two big runs versus some motion look that was a little bit different. But other than that, they were great, man. And so I fully expect this defense to play a similar style. I'm with you on Florey. It's something I've talked about all offseason. He's been around football a long time. He's been around the Shanahan Tree a long time.

Never called plays. And you're replacing a guy that got the head coaching job for the organization who had the number one pick looking for a quarterback because he was so good at calling plays. I just don't think that happens like that. And so I think there's big question marks for Seattle's offense in regards to that. And I like that.

I like that this, I haven't made a pick yet, but I absolutely could see New England going out there and winning this football game. It's interesting because Sam Darnal with KOC, great. Kubiak, great. New O.C., we shall see, right? Like what Sam Donald is, we assume that he's incredible Debutt has something. Yeah, not a new O.C. Josh McDaniels was one of a ton of Super Bowl, has a ton of success. How do you think this Patriot's offense looks with A.J. Briggas?

As soon as that sign it was made, you instantly compared him to Gromp in those matchups. The McDaniels kind of came out and said the same thing. So how do you envision this offense working with the addition to AJ Brown? Yeah, I want to get your perspective on this. Again, rewatching the Super Bowl, and we're going to touch on this a little bit with live and some tapes. So one of the things that I saw in that game in the Super Bowl was the pressures, the blitzes, that Witherspoon and all those sacks were coming from,

a lot of them came from the field. And so they would blitz the field, debut, and then they would kind of shade to the boundary, so they would play some tight coverage to the boundary receiver, and that safety would shade. It was a lot of times it was Keishon Booney, shade towards that side. And so you're pressuring from the field.

You're almost double teaming backside, which is a lot of times the easier throw for the quarterback, get the ball of my hand shorter throw. And so I'm interested to see if that is something Seattle does again, like does New England put AJ to the field? And so that gives him a – because if you're going to shade backside to a Romeo Dobbs, can AJ win to the field,

versus some one-on-one coverage with maybe not as much help. So I think that'll be interesting for me. The number one thing I'll look for from a New England perspective is where they're putting AJ in maybe some of those pressure situations to see how Seattle defensively reacts. How would you do it? Go ahead. I mean, that's kind of been always McDaniel Supar.

You say, how would I do it defensively or if I'm offensively? Defensively. Yeah, exactly. Defensively, you got to take away AJ one, first and foremost, and whether that's putting the highest paid corner in the league on them and being good and living with that matchup or doubling the old school Belichick, double A.J. And then, you know, put a one-on-one away.

So that's how I would do it. But you got to take away AJ. You got to make Romeo beat you. You got to make Hunter Henry beat you. And then without the, about Henderson, I don't expect him to be out there. You got to make the other backs beat you as well when it comes to coverage in those matchups.

But you have to, have to take away AJ. He is an absolute game record. And coming into that game, you've got to come in and say, hey, we can't let this guy beat us. I love that we're starting a season with a Super Bowl rematch. So many question marks. And I appreciated your take on how we should maybe see how Gonzo, how Gonzo is feeling about beating a New England Patriot right now.

or when you have all the What's it called? When, like the offensive linemen are pulling? No, when the offensive linemen are lined up out there. It's like on like Diamond or something. Model Huddle. Set hot. Let's let's see if this guy, because he is

an active participant when it comes to tackling. Yeah, he's always been unbelievable in everything like that. He will come up and he'll lay the wood whenever it needs to be done, but it is a question, you know. That's a real thing that I didn't really consider Dan. Until Dan said it, I was like, oh my God, this is how this carries into actual football here now, you know.

Pay him his money, damn it. That'd be flurry. It's just the game playing right now. Yeah. That's how we used to do it with like, you know, we used to play against Revis, from Marty. Yeah. Be like, all right.

A lot of times it would be the offensive linemen going out first. Like we would like send perimeter screens out there. Tackle would go and be like, all right. How much do you really? O' great night, Gonzo is going to show up. Gonzo is going to show up. And he's always been pretty adamant, like, hey, every single day. You were just mentioned to be where your feet are.

He is in it every single day, and that's been his answer to everything. And also, they have added some really, really good pieces on defense. Kevin Byard, hopefully he can fill that hole, but just pay that man his money. He deserves 130, whatever, millions that he wants to have. Just give it to him. Do you guys have that? Do you have it available? Well, we have a quarterback who's getting paid, like,

the eighth least amount in the entire league because he's still on his rookie contract and he's getting paid a ton of money probably coming up soon here. So yeah, we have the money to pay him. So just freaking do it already, Bob. Okay, those are the opening two nights of the NFL season. We can't wait to watch. We're thankful it's here. Obviously, college football has done a great job.

But storyline still kind of bringing it. It was announced that Tua will be the starting quarterback for Atlanta. AJ has a question about that. Yeah, Dan, obviously Tua is traveling to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers. I guess what are your expectations from Tua? How long do you think he is in? in the lineup and I guess, yeah, what would you do if you are a decontinator playing against Tua? Yeah, I would play everything short to deep.

If you watched Tua last year and then certainly in the preseason, the ball's coming out quickly and there's not a willingness to push the ball downfield that much. I think part of it is just because there's a reality and I've been a Tua supporter and I love them, but these hits and these injuries add up, you know, and so we've seen some older quarterbacks get to the point where they never want to get touched. I get it. I think two is probably in that world right now. So Patrick Graham is the defensive coordinator for the Steelers. He's a guy that has kind of played defense in so many different styles. He's been a zone guy. He's been an aggressive guy. He's been a match guy. So there's a little bit of trying to figure out exactly who he'll be in Pittsburgh

with their personnel from a, you know, how they'll attack Atlanta's offensive group. But I think it's this was the inevitable. I would tell you this probably feels like it's a week to week thing until Michael Pennix fully, like fully says yes, I can go out there and play a football game on that knee. And if two was playing well enough, he'll keep the job.

And if he's not, the job will go to Michael Pennix. I've been adamant. I don't, either of these guys has to play so far above their skis to be part of the conversation of the future in Atlanta that, I think it's more than likely we see at least both of them in Atlanta,

and we'll see kind of who can do the most with the opportunity. Tua, starting quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons. I guess this puts to bed the final quarterback competition that was taking place. Cooper Cush, Cooper Rush, will be the backup quarterback. Pennix, we assume, third. Jack Strand lingering, obviously down there. Obviously, it's been six different quarterbacks and six different seasons for the Atlanta Falcons, obviously looking for some stability.

the other quarterback competition of the offseason that garnered a lot of headlines and conversation. Kyla Murray, starting quarterback of the Vikings, where do you sit right now with this? Because it was loud at the time, and then, you know, who knows who ends up where. But Kyler Murray being named starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings,

where do you sit as we're just days away from getting to watch that for the first time? Yeah, if Kyler is able to put some consistency together that resembled the start of his 2024 season, the Vikings are contenders to win the division. They're that good of a football team. They're three deep at wide receiver. Hawkinson's a stud.

I've said this. I believe this is the easiest place to play quarterback in the NFC outside of Los Angeles Rams. Because of those pieces I mentioned, the play caller, the run game. Flores' defense will be great. Harrison Smith, I heard you guys talking about before somehow still playing football and probably playing at high level. Dude, so good at ball. My question mark with Kyler.

I've kind of talked about this is how. much Kyler's willing to allow the scheme to be the star and not him to be the playmaker. He's obviously going to make plays at times. But this scheme is built upon just allow the play design to get the guy open. I'll get him open. You know why I'm getting them open, cut it loose. And how much they can build some of those throwing lanes in. You can't run an offense that wants to attack the middle of the field.

Okay, let me, I'll say it this way. Yeah, please, please say it this way. Okay. When you have an offense that is I play action pass centric offense and it's predicated upon the run and that run action looking similar. You have to be able to work the middle of the field in the past game. You have to have the people. You have to have the quarterback. You have to have the protection.

And so if you're going to have that be your foundational part, throwing the ball to just a perimeter is not real life. Those two things do not exist at the same time. And so I think how comfortable O'Connell gets with building some passing lanes in in that play action pass world, how comfortable Kyler gets seeing it, and it's a little bit in the Purdy world. Purdy's got the capability of it because of the touch he has on his throws. Rock can't throw to guys before they're there. He throws the blind spots. Kyler doesn't have a ton in his game of throwing blind, throwing the blind spots. And that's something that just takes a ton of comfort level.

but it would Stroud. You know, when you're throwing the ball over the middle of the field, your margin for error is small because I sail it, it's picked. I'm low, it's picked. Outside, I can sail it, it's incomplete, low, it's incomplete. And so how comfortable Kyler gets with that and how well they can build some vision or throwing lanes in, I think is really the biggest question mark.

Tyler and Kevin O'Connell operating in offense, as opposed to Star operating plays. And Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams, right? Are we all kind of watching the same thing here? Caleb Williams is able to win games for him at the end just because he's Caleb Williams. He's so talented. Is he going to, the way you described it?

Well, Caleb, let the offense be the star and then him be the operator of it because that's what Jared Goff was in the Ben Johnson offense and we saw maybe the best offense in all the ball. Ben Johnson was hired to be the head coach because of how great he was at offense. Everybody wanted to hire him as a head coach because of that. So if we can see Caleb Williams get into that offense,

we can assume potential record-breaking numbers, like he said, we would like to be the high-scoring offense in history. That would be the offense taking lead there, right? And Caleb just kind of being the the chew-choo conductor of that entire thing. 100%. You know, and that's, I've said this with Caleb. It's, it is a fine line with these guys because you never want to get them to be statute, just pocket quarterbacks that aren't creative. And so you never want to take that stinger away from them, but there is a rhythm to the offense. And a lot of times you can fall in love with some of the splash.

plays and think they're going to be sustainable and you know you're the own you're the patrick mahomes of the world because patrick did it but it's a different game than when patrick was doing it as well five six years ago and i think some of the things that gets lost in it is when we're talking about the timing and rhythm of the play it's not just the quarterback there's a timing and rhythm of it for the offensive line the offensive line knows there's a very specific place the quarterback is going to throw the football from so like they know that where they can get beat and where they can't get beat when should they expect the ball of the quarterback's hands, the spacing of the routes.

If I'm starting front side with the route, the spacing of those backside concepts and how the timing of that matters. If a receiver gets, if he's supposed to be 18 yards on the in-rout backside and you, the quarterback are still on the front side and he's crossing the field at 18 yards already, well, we've lost the timing and the spacing of the play. So, you know, I think that there's, those are all things when we talk about like timing in rhythm, it's not just about quarterback and only throw. A lot of phenomenal offensive systems in that NFC North.

And if Chicago just keeps going the way it's going, Run game. It might be, what's that? You got to have the run. Ben Johnson, he has, like, his run game design is crazy. And marrying that up with the past, because Dan just kind of mentioned, defense has changed. Defense has become more patient.

but they do not return a ton on defense. And Florida State's defense didn't look incredible last week. They couldn't get any pressure against New Mexico State. I think is that who it was, either in New Mexico or Mexico State? So, yeah, I'm expecting points tonight. 54.5, I believe, is now the current line. It was 53.5-1-5 when show started again. goes up a point. The spread goes down a half a point. Interesting numbers as week one of college

football season wraps up with Florida State SMU. Nine-year NFL vet Darius J. Butler is here. D. Butch, it was great to have football back. Yes. It was great to see studs. Was there any defenses across the college landscape that deserved to be talked about a little bit more than maybe they were? How about what LSU's defense was able to do? And what was going on with the blocking there, Clemson? I don't understand. I was shocked. I honestly expected a decent game. I expected the Clemson at least to be in it in the fourth quarter. But we expected LSU defense to be good. They kept the defensive coordinator,

had returned a bunch of players. But, I mean, they just looked horrible on that offense. It's like they haven't practiced. Obviously, your name just starting quarterback at the 11th hour. You bench them, then you go back to them. But if you can't block them up in the trenches, you can't get anything done. And it looked like for both quarterbacks,

just like it was 13 guys on defense that they were facing. Those white jerseys were moving so fast, the environment. I mean, they were unbelievable. Right now, obviously, you know, reset. He would have them as their number one team right now in the power rankings. It's hard to disagree with them coming out, hitting the ground running week one like they did. They were big, strong and fast. They received one to their practice, I believe, on Thursday.

And he came up to me, it was just like, oh. I'm like, what? What's that? He goes, that practice I just watched from LSU. He was like, they are so big, so fast. Yeah. Everything is just so everything, everywhere. You see freaks everywhere.

Every single position they got guys. And it's not just one guy. There's two guys at every single position. He was like, I don't know how you beat him. I don't know how you beat this team. He was actually multiple times said that. And Stanford Steve gets a chance and does, thankful that he does this, he goes and watches these practices for all of us.

That is literally what he's doing. And we appreciate him. He spends a lot of time doing a lot of this stuff for a lot of other people to be good at their job. so we appreciate the hell out of him. But he was drooling. He was drooling over LSU's practice. Just like so excited to watch what they were. And he,

he on his pick, he said he picks Clemson to cover. And as soon as he said that, I actually looked at him and I'm like, man, you're the one that swayed me. You're the one that swayed me into thinking that they were going to kill because everything else I'd been reading about this LSU team and then the Clemson team.

It was like everything that we worked on, you put together, everything that we've been talking about. It's like every position was like, they got an answer, They got an answer. They got an answer. They got an answer. They're faster. They're faster. The bigger. They got more experience. In the quarterback, I mean, Trinidad Chambers, canon. Absolute canon. Fun to watch. It's some great throws last. Unbelievable. Bucket. Bucket shot. There was another one for the field goal where he puts it on a line for like 35 yards. If you fell asleep, you missed an electrifying finish to Ole Miss Louisville.

That ball right there. That's getting field goal range, basically. An absolute hose. And then they get a 48-yard field goal from one. I mean, look at that ball. That spiral, absolutely tight. dart, runner's ball. He is, he's a weapon. Trindad Chamblissor. He was a fair estate. Okay, so fair estate, obviously, he won the Heisman for D, whatever that is. He too, yeah. Then he gets into Charlie Weiss Jr. and Lane, that's the one to get in the field goal, or to keep the chains moving or whatever. He plays great in big moments. He has an incredible arm. He can move. Everything you see Trindad Chambliss do, we know, great kick here by Carrero, by the way. He missed one early. He pulled one. Very abnormal for him. Every time we

watched him kick live in person, he had a pure ball. I mean, just an absolute pure ball. But if you look at just strictly what Lane Kiffin and Charlie Weiss were able to do with Trinidad Chambliss and I'm not saying that Trinidad wasn't his own talent and everything, if you were to pair him with Sam Levitt, it's like Sam Levitt can do everything that Trinidad can do

and he's already taking a team to a CFP by himself with Scataboo at Arizona State. So I was really eager to see Sam Levitt in a Lane Kiffin offense with all the weapons that they have. So I thought, I thought LSU was going to win, not in a dominant fashion. But then whenever Steve comes and tells me, they got them, they got, because I thought

they were limited at the top. I thought like roster, like a crust on a cake, I thought it was really good, and then everything was going to be soft underneath it. And he was like, no, everybody's unbelievable. And it's like, he swayed me into thinking they were going to kill him. I thought either 40 or 50 is what I was debating in between in the moment when I was talking there. Went with 50 just because it sounded a little bit more dramatic, I guess.

Should have stuck with 40, but it felt like obvious. after Steve told me they looked the part. They certainly did. They certainly looked the part across the board. Me and Gumpy got to be there taking a knee in the end zone so we don't block everybody's view. Then we were told by Miss Princess Erica at halftime, at the end of the first quarter that we were going to have to take a knee

and we say, hey, already done it. We respect these people. The people that are in the stands, they've been drunk for 13, 14. They're waiting. But we got to see it. And from our perspective, they were giants, man. They all look the part.

Oh, yeah. Jordan Seton's, he was unbelievable left tackle. Straight out of Colorado, good transfer. How's he going to do? Great. There was obviously bubble deflection, interception early. But that was basically the only time they were stopped. And anytime Sam needed to get the edge or get a run, he did.

I think I forgot how fast he was. It was, they're a problem. It's crazy to be like, is LSU going to win the fucking national championship? And he got a hard SEC, obviously. As you see, is difficult. They went perfect this weekend, by the way. He had a perfect weekend. So there's going to be a lot of conversations about that as we go forward about who has a deeper conference and everything like that.

But it's hard not to think that after watching them do what they just did to Clemson. Yeah, because all the bullshit that was happening in the offseason with the pros and the court cases, you forget that, you know, Lane Kiffin is a hell of a ball coach. And now you think about the quarterback, you think about these high-powered offense when you think Lane Kiffin. But he always wins in the trenches. Like that's how he builds his team, the run game, the trenches. And then looking at them. But on the flip side, you're talking about these defenses.

LSU, great. where he left, Ole Miss, I was surprised at their defense throughout that game, especially down the stretch with Paul Golden being the defensive guy. How, like, guys were running wide-ass open from Louisville. Yeah, they have talented receivers, obviously talented play caller, head coach, talented quarterback, but I did not expect him to give up 38 points against that Louisville team. Yeah, Golden had some hilarious things to say afterwards.

I think he understands that as well. They've got a huge one here in a couple weeks. Not that every game isn't important, but LSU traveling into Oxford, Lane traveling in there. They look like their mid-season form right now. old mist still has some stuff to figure out but they're taking on a very good Louisville team brougham won at Purdue yeah okay this guy that's the head coach of Louisville was winning at Purdue so this guy is actual coach college had a spectacular weekend obviously the LSU dominance at prime time midday though Baylor Auburn came down to a two point conversion nine seconds left you score touchdown you could tie go for two what a tackle what a tackle the decision was made by Aranda and Baylor and DJ Lagway is quarterback after scoring a touchdown.

Sick drive, great comeback, wonderful game. Do you go for two or do you kick the extra point? Everybody I was with, which was Des Rees, Rees, Joey, Gumpsch, you name it, read the whole crew as we were waiting to do our show. Go for two. Go for two. Got to do it. You got a chance here.

Colorado, Thursday, Beach, Georgia Tech on a blocked kick after having a late comeback. Juju Lewis's first start back in his home state of Georgia, ends with Colorado beating Georgia Tech. In Colorado, pounding a rock. And stop in a run, too. Hey, they were pounding a rock. They were actually playing big boy, tough football. And I appreciated them all saying, I thought we're soft. I thought we're soft. Because we even said, how are they going

stop Justice Haines? How are they going to stop Georgia Tech who's just going to want to pound him in his new era? I genuinely didn't believe it, didn't know if it was going to happen. Watching that game unfold, it's like, wow, Colorado looks different than they've ever looked before. This is a different style than they've ever really had before, and they just beat Georgia Tech on the road in prime time. What a start for prime in another year. Trying to win at Colorado? Of course. What do you mean? What do you mean? Sounds like a question. Well, I just don't know with the standard how we should talk about this.

Like, Colorado, I think since he's got there, has a lot of hype, a lot of, but the expectations have never been like they're going to win the national championship. It's like, hey, they're building a program, building a program, building a program, selling out stadiums. They are the show.

What is it? How should we be talking about Colorado? I mean, we talk about the NFL every year. All 32 teams going into the season have this idea within their building, like, hey, we can go and win a Super Bowl. We take care of our business, blah, blah. We know from the outside looking in,

it's like, okay, Maybe it's eight to 10 teams that can actually do it. Kind of the same thing with Colorado, but you got to play and win what's on your schedule. And this is a great, great start, a completely new identity. Every time you look at them, hey, they're too small, they're two this, they're too that. And then you look at this team that they got absolutely ran over last year. It's kind of similar to the redemption of the revenge that Belichick got in week one against TCU. So we saw Belichick, we saw Prime, and now he gets this win.

I love the juju. You know, we're running the ball. Obviously, kind of keeping him out of harm's way, but him making this greed, taking this throw. That was a great route by the tight end as well. And then we were talking, we talked about it probably more than any show, the operation, the field goal blocks. We talked about it when, you know, Vinny going in the Hall of Fame and, hey, what's that time? Is it one point two seconds? This. Who can block it? It's either a guy up the middle.

I forget what, was it this game where a six nine guy? Yeah, right up the cut. Yeah, right up the gut, blocked the game. And then him coming off the edge, getting there making his block to win this game in a walk off fashion, man. The type of energy this puts into a locker room, you know, just to prepare you throughout the rest of the season, unbelievable. So, yeah, I think definitely you're not going to get the same eyes without Shadour and Travis Hunter there, even Jordan Seaton, you know, going on to LSU. But you got to build this program kind of from the ground up. You talk about the haves and the haves-nots nots.

I think Colorado was still kind of being a have-nots conversation. Yeah, and you talk about building it from the ground up. Prime kind of switched his NIL approach this year. He was going for five stars and four stars that didn't work out and bring him into the program and that hadn't worked. This year, he kind of went with more of guys who were proven, kind of like has Sig has done in the portal. and other successful teams have done in the portal where they go for production, maybe not so much upside.

They're proven college football players instead of, hey, like, this could be the best football player in the world. It seems to have worked out week one so far. Boo Carter on the block there of Aden Burr. What a start to the season for them. And yeah, if you find your guys, you know, your culture, not scared to adapt.

I like that at a coach prime, especially with how the offseason went. Let's head up to West Virginia, Morgan Town. They retired Pat White's five. There you go. That was cool. That was cool. That was pre-game.

That was cool. That was pregame right before the game kicked off. They celebrated Coach Pat White for what legendary player, All-American, all-everything, Pat White did back to whenever he was playing. I was so lucky to be a teammate of his. He was redshirted, so he was one year above me in the recruiting class. But I came in, played immediately and got to ride his coattails to so many massive moments. I mean, just things that I did not deserve to be a part of. I was a part of because him and Steve Slayton, in Owen Schmidt, and the entire crew of. across the board, we're so good at football. So I'm very thankful for Pat White. I'm very thankful for West Virginia retiring the five because obviously his professional career did not work out exactly how we had all hoped. It would have worked out, both in baseball and in football. If he was like 10 years later, I have no idea what his NFL career would be.

I mean, you can go ahead and put that as just a bottomless bowl of success. Would have been a top five pick. Yeah, just ahead of his time, incredible teammate, incredible leader, was great for the state of West Virginia. What you see in that stadium right now is not what it looked like before Pat White got there. What the locker room looked like

before Pat White got there and after Pat White got there, what the university looked like before and after Pat White got there. Everything that he kind of brought to that state warrants. I think the retirement, and I'm happy he got celebrated. I'm happy he got celebrated.

Yeah, you talk about being lucky to be his teammate. I was very unlucky to be his opponent every year in that Big East. And, you know, I saw that he was the only quarterback to start and win for bowl games. Like, just unbelievable what that offense was. Every year, you know, teams that play Navy, it was like, okay, this is the one week we're trying to simulate you to practice.

It's just something you never see. That Rich Rod and what he had with the offense, with Pat White Slating and the offensive line, like it was just something that off a video game. He was so fast, so explosive. And then as soon as you were locking and have, you know, eight, nine guys committed to run, boom, he'll put it over top of the head to Darius Raynard or somebody. So he was just an unbelievable player. It seemed like he was an unbelievable teammate.

So I'm glad they honor them. I'm glad, you know, he's still in the program, a part of the program as well. But I love seeing guys like this get their flowers. Devin McCordy put out a tweet like, yeah, I was definitely on that tribute video. Any defender in the Big East was definitely on there multiple times, I'm sure. Yeah, he was fun to watch, man.

And obviously, I was kicker and punter, so I was going out on the field pretty much every single time. I was very lucky to be on a team that Pat White was on. And, yeah, I mean, that was my real introduction to the football world. and it was like just watching these two dudes. Okay. Okay, I think we're pretty good. I feel like we are pretty good.

AJ, was this style much in the Big Ten for us? I think whenever we would play a team that was like very fast. Like we were a very fast team. Oh, yeah, oh yeah. We trained speed. I mean, Barrow's had us working. We were trying to be a very fast team. But if we happened to run into a fast team,

it felt like they were able to reach with us. They were able, or penetration was able to happen. Big Ten football, you know, Rich Rod goes up to mission, I think he, if you were to ask him, if he had another couple years and got his people in there, I think he thinks they would have done well anywhere. Goes to Arizona, Jacksonville State, back at West Virginia. And we kind of have a similar thing right now with Hawkins, a quarterback. He was a starter.

Obviously, we get out to a great. Cam Cook, our running back. First play of the game, this felt like Noel Devine Steve Slate. This is first play of the game. 15 minutes left on the clock right there. This guy just gets the ball. First time. Conference USA Player of the year last year transfers into West Virginia from Jacksonville State.

time he touches the ball for West Virginia is a 72-yard run or something like that. It was like, wait, this does feel kind of like it used to be back in the day. Rick Trickett's back on the offensive line coaching them. We got a couple highest recruits I think we've signed in some time or offense alignment that are playing at a very young age. Coastal Carolina obviously gave us a little bit of a test in the second half, but we started out and it felt good. Do you think this style of offense will always be able to work, AJ, if you have the right

people? And why do you think Pat White was so successful back in the day? Yeah, I mean, the offense can absolutely work. You mentioned, though, if you have the right people. Like, we know when you have dynamic playmakers that have just unbelievable speed and vision and everything, it's always going to be tough for a defense to stop him. But going back to Pat White, like, when I think of West Virginia, I think of guys like Packed me in Pat White's Slate. And I think of those guys of putting them on the map and thinking I never was able to actually,

actually I'm very lucky that I didn't have to play against Pat White because that's an absolute nightmare, especially as a linebacker thinking like you're, if you ever play man coverage, like, I feel like I can never play man coverage against a guy like Pat White. Not only can he beat you with his arm, but the second I turn my back, he's going to pick up that ball, and he's going to run for a 65-yard run on me, and it's going to be an absolute backbreaker. Your coach is going to kill you,

and your whole defense is going to turn on each other, start pointing fingers, because that's kind of how it goes when you play a guy like him. Yeah, he did demoralized teams. You kind of see it right in front of your eyes. I didn't even think about it from your perspective, where everybody's blaming everybody else. And everyone does their job, too.

Hey, man, I have my guy, you know, I got a dude to run a 4-4. I'm running with him down the seam. everyone's covered and then all of a sudden like wait how'd they score my back was turned this dude just ran right up my back and ran to the end zone and when you do that you're right it is like uh it's demoralizing for a team because you're like what what else can we do to get this guy on the ground coaches too you're talking about players you're talking about deal with you just never heard on the football side like yeah talking to d line hey when they snap the ball just run sideways all right we're going i've never heard that it's all it's been about penetration moving in line of scrimmage, but with those guys, they would go kind of sideways lateral, and everybody runs a version of an RPO. Now, if you're a statue quarterback, you do that. But Pat White, it was always like, and he would hold it, like, so he's riding. So if you were a D-Liaman or a linebacker like AJ's talking about, you ride with 10,

and then 5 pulls it and he's gone. Or 5 pulls it, and then 10's going the complete opposite way. Everybody's going this way, and 10's out of the gate. So, yeah, it's an absolute knife. And then we had Owen. Yeah. We had Owen Schmidt, the runaway being on your throat. before, yeah. He was, he was, he was hanging

Then decides, he wants to walk on at West Virginia because seeing like the rich rod offense and getting back closer to home, I think is the origin story. Doesn't have a chance to try

out whenever he gets there. So he's working at a bar as a bouncer. Good luck. I mean, honestly. Beating the shit. Because you have so many people. Oh my God. And I say our because I was just lucky to be in there alongside of it and unlucky to be in there as well on certain mornings that were just an absolute nightmare. But like what this dude did in a weight room and his story about betting on himself and going

for it, it's like he was unbelievable, just an absolute unbelievable athlete who would run through your face. I mean, and was looking to do that and could also punt. You know, like he's a great athlete. And he missed his first start. He got drafted to Seattle Seahawks late. He missed his first start because as they introed him in the thing, he took his helmet, which he had done 10,000 times before,

and bashes the helmet off his forehead. Place goes absolutely apes shit, obviously. And then he just keeps running. Obviously, bust cash open. They're going to have to seal that before. Yeah, we got the ball first. I think he missed first play up first. Yeah, here he is.

I am a huge fan of the Virginia Tech culture. And if James Franklin can bring them back to the national forefront, and if Game Day can get down there, man, it would be So sweet. Now, Long Road, obviously, try to build an entire organization, but can you do that if you get the right transfer portals? Like he brought some guys in from Penn State, obviously, who have a lot of experience. Start. You have an incredible fan base. You have the ACC now, as opposed to the Big Ten conference and schedule.

What are realistic expectations for James Franklin and Virginia Techtown? That's their over under. I believe it's seven and a half. Preseason it was seven and a half, I believe. They dominated week one. It wasn't even close. And like, when you look at it. at their schedule. It's it's really not it's like it's not bad at all. They're going out to cow, which will be tough. They have to go to SMU in Miami, which, but those are all later in the season. This could be a team that could be, you know, four, five and oh to start. They got to go. They host Pitt and Mason Heinchell who had seven touchdown passes this weekend. So that'll be their first probably real tests after Maryland and BC who are a little bit farther down in the

ACC schedule. But seven and a half, I like them to go over that number this year. just because of everything they did bring in or bring in. I like what they have down there because, you know, Franklin's weakness is top five teams, and they're only going to play at one of those this year. There you go. Shout out. Not a bad plan. Torential downpour.

Okay? Not a lot of coverage. Torrential downpour on everybody outside the stadium, while everybody outside the stadium is being told to leave outside, go find cover. So the fact that they filled that place up still after hour and a half delays, two hour delays with what was happening weather-wise throughout the day, I think was really special. In the way that all dried up the field, I guess they have an irrigation system that is like very good for the field. It didn't appear to be super sloppy, even though the rain was absurd. And that place was packed out. Third quarter, there was, or maybe it was second quarter.

I cut the tag off at 20 minutes before I go, I seen that thing for like 30 minutes, maybe. So I put that thing on. David Allen literally just sends me jackets. I put them on. I appreciate him doing that.

That was early in the show. We still had another hour and a half, two hours left at this point. So the next time we go down out to the crowd, the crowd was spectacular. Next time we go out to the crowd, I ask him, I go, hey, is my back still wet? They go, what? I go, is my back still wet?

And they go, and I turn around to hear them go, oh, like literally, like everybody yelling about it. So it was a little bit of a scene down there with how hot it was. It wasn't the only scene. big time. A lot of pressure on coach to get them to want to run through a wall of bricks. I think working at is one thing for a team, which is kind of those like, I guess you would say tryouts. But training camps more so tryout. Yeah. If they're not good enough, though, to make, if they, if they take three years, and they declare for the draft and they're not good enough to make a team or be on that roster, they would probably make more money in college, so they'll stay all five years. Okay, so let's say four years, a guy starts for four years. He thinks projected to be okay in the NFL, maybe back half of draft. Gonna potentially go do this. Ends up not drafted. Goes to get signed undrafted, free agent or whatever.

Goes to a place, goes to training camp. That person still has one year left. It gets cut from the end of training camp, right? Trying to make team once to make team. Yeah. still has one year left. Is he going back? Probably.

It just feels like the money in college football is so great that, and this is why the draft has become a little more watered down, because guys are just staying in college that if you... Back half of a draft you think is staying for five. Yeah, like you would assume that those guys who are in the back half of the draft now will be those dudes who play five full years of college, and that's the same thing as the year after that. You know, like those dudes who play four years know,

hey, I'm going to make part two, maybe three times more money staying in college for my fifth year because of how great I'll be. And then next year, I'll hopefully rise a little bit in the draft. Yeah. It could certainly happen again, though. Yes. And I thought this was the last year for it. And then something was said in the game day meeting. And I was like, oh, I didn't think about somebody after maybe four starting years thinking they were good,

maybe get some wrong information on how they are. Something happens right before the draft. they do this entire thing. Will they be the ones that do it now? And I guess with the amount of money in college, if you're back half of the draft guy, you're definitely going to want to get all five years of college ball in to potentially work your way up.

I don't know. I genuinely don't know. If there's not rules that say you explicitly can't do it, this is going to happen until they say you can't. That's why it needs to be your rule. Well, they need to do what the NBA does. That's why we need to pass the college sports act. The NBA don't do it anymore, remember?

Well, the NBA combine, you're allowed to declare, go and do the NBA Combine, And then there's a two-week period after that where, like, you talk to NBA teams and you get, like, some maybe realistic expectations. And then you can go back. Yeah, but then there's also G. Lee guys playing? How's that work? Well, I don't understand that aspect. If I'm just talking about, like, declaring from college, like, going to NFL, like, in the NBA, if you're a college player, you can declare, go and do the combine.

And then after the combine, not make it to the draft and then get undrafted, you know, and all that. And then decide to go back, like, legitimately after the combine. Yeah, it used to be you couldn't sign with an agent. Yes. Yeah, so you could do that, but you couldn't sign with an agent. But now we got G-League guys coming back. Yeah. So, like, is that still a...

Is that still a thing that we... Like, we always, always understood this. But now does it even matter? Because if they even sign with a G-League team, they can still come back. Then will there be enough money for, you know, Olympic programs as well,

which is a big part of this entire thing, women's sports, like what sports end up getting cut if there becomes a massive financial deficit from all the potential money being spent in one particular sport versus all the other sports, which is happening now. There's no real. So it feels like a lot of chaos. Good luck to everybody has to figure that out. Go get them. Ross Dengar says this impacts the Protect College Sports Act. The House originally scheduled to be in session for four weeks in September is now scheduled for just two. This means the House would not consider the congressional bill until it returns and mid-November and then what, it's election season, right?

It also happened to be the day the 49ers flew to Australia, leaving Wednesday, September 2nd, and arriving Friday morning the 4th. The 49ers lost today, but Morris lost his 50th birthday. Someone told him, they said, oh, that's so cool. That's so cool.

God, it's like a leap year, but not really. I got to tweet this out. Need to see the Atlanta Falcons Twitter group, what they responded to that, because I'm sure it was great. Yeah, I'm sure they had some ideas on whether or not we should be celebrating birthdays. I think Rahim Morris is going to do great at his new gig.

And I think his 50th birthday is going to be hanging out in Australia for two weeks. How long have they been down forever? That's a long time being a completely different getting acclimated. Now you've got to acclimate back here. That's the problem. After the game. You've got to get back on track in America. If this goes in, they're all going to get acclimated.
