Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey, how are you doing, man? Doing good. What's happening, man? I'm doing well, man. Is my audio good? Yeah, yeah. Okay, good deal. Are you going to the lake with us at the party?
Starting point is 00:00:20 I can't. It's just, like, after the party, two weeks, two weekends after that, we're going out of town. I can't do three, I can't do three weeks. I can't do three weekends in a row. Oh, no, you're good. I wasn't pressing you. Obviously, we want you on deck, but, um, yeah. And that's why I can't go to Portland either because I'm, we're going to be away.
Starting point is 00:00:42 Yeah, yeah. No, the man, I'm stoked you're going to make a party, man. I realize that's, um, I realize you're, you're kind of going out of your way to do this. Although we do we got to Wisconsin event. Yeah, yeah. Eliot last, man. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:00:58 Our fearless leader insists that that's the best German restaurant, like anywhere outside of a, outside of Hamburg probably, you know, so I'm stoked. Yeah, we actually, we actually changed our flight to get in earlier so we would make, we knew that if there were any delays, we could make the dinner because, yeah, I want to go to that restaurant. I've already ordered. Yeah, me too. I'm very implanted all day, son.
Starting point is 00:01:26 Yeah, yeah, we're, uh, my buddy, uh, John Doe, um, you met him down in Nashville. I think he met him in Nashville and then I met him this year in in Nashville. But I was not feeling well. And I was, I sort of blew him off and I hope he doesn't take that personally, man. I was like a dog. You'll see him in a lot. Like, he, uh, he's coming in for the party. And then he and I were driving on to Milwaukee.
Starting point is 00:02:02 And we're going to stay tonight Friday. But then Saturday night, we're going to come home. Because, uh, frankly, uh, I want to chill because like, I mean, I, I mean, I'm hosting the fucking party. You know, like, I don't want to. And plus, to be told, man, if those Wisconsin guys go hard as fuck. If I'm, like, standing, if I'm spending the event, like, on Saturday, like, there's going to be, like, free flow and alcohol. I'm going to wake up, like, uh, you know, I've just been curbstoffs. and then I'm going to have to get myself in fighting shape
Starting point is 00:02:31 like the host is big party so I yeah I'm like not a but um definitely could affect the party yeah yeah so uh um that way things get out of hand Friday night I'll be able to you know recover Saturday but I mean I was I never let things get out of hand but I'm old you know like and I feel it when I I can't I you don't have to explain that to me man well it's also too like people uh
Starting point is 00:02:56 people think I'm like, let me kill my history stuff. Go here, man, I go to your bush mills. Here, have a beer, man. Like, try to try this. That's like, geez, man, you're going to fucking kill me. I'm not 19, you know. But,
Starting point is 00:03:10 but no, it'll be, um, our fearless leaders, uh, he's renting, uh, he's renting our ride and so we're gonna, we're gonna drive the lake. And then, uh, I'm, I'm gonna take the Greyhound back. I'm assuming I just got to see if one of the fellas is, nice enough to drive me out to the station.
Starting point is 00:03:30 You can catch the, you can catch the flick bus or the Greyhound. But it's like an hour from Fayetteville. You know, uh, but, uh, our leader said it shouldn't be a problem getting me either.
Starting point is 00:03:45 I just really don't, I mean, I, I realize it's, it's only like an hour and a half flight, but I really don't like flying, man. So, you know, I, uh, I'm hoping I can take the bus bit.
Starting point is 00:04:00 There's not, there's not an Amtrak station. You can, it's fascinating, man, because, like, um, there's a couple of major hubs in the south, like rail hubs, but it's not, like,
Starting point is 00:04:13 up north. And that's one of the things in the world, we're going to states that crush the south is logistics. They didn't really have the railroad down there. You know, the railroad basically, like,
Starting point is 00:04:22 runs, like, east coast to west coast and Yankeeland. You know, um, it's really interesting but um oh yeah we got we got all our friends on deck
Starting point is 00:04:33 that's great um but uh yeah no that uh this trail season is gonna be hectic man and uh the new york city guys are they hit me up this morning and they said that uh
Starting point is 00:04:46 they're having their annual powwow they meet like every couple of weeks you know they're like yeah they're like we're going to convene on the third we're going to figure out like wanted to do the book launch event so i'm gonna i'm gonna be hopping literally close to coast man you know from uh portland uh to new york city but um but like i said man i'm gonna tell i'm gonna tell the east coast guys that uh i'm gonna i'm gonna stay in uh i'm gonna stay in Oregon for an extra week because uh yeah i think after after the trip at the end of the month uh
Starting point is 00:05:26 At the end of September, I'm going to try and hang out here and, like, take two months to travel off because it's just been, it's been held the past, like, couple months going in and out of town and everything. I hate airports. I hate, you know, I hate driving. And, you know, I'm probably going to even, even though it would be driving, I think I'm going to skip Amaran to. And then my yearly Florida trip will probably be at, like, the beginning of December or something. like that. I don't blame you, man. I, that's why I, I, I, I, I quite literally take, you know, half the year off from traveling, unless it's like a one-off thing because it kicks my ass. I mean, I'm lucky to, I can do it. And it's fun. I'm very fortunate, but it really wears me out. And that's the reason I don't fly, man. Like, I mean, the main thing is it's a cost-seeing measure and flying gives me anxiety. Like, just going to the airport sucks, man. If I was going to, if I was, if I was, if I was going to half a dozen airports, you know, in, in two months, I'd, I'd, I'd, That would make me really miserable, man. You know.
Starting point is 00:06:29 No, I mean, we just, we were in Austin this past weekend. Right. Not only, not only was it anywhere between 105 and 110 degrees at its highest, with no wind, with no, with no wind. Until the day we left, then, of course, we got some, some breezes. But also, like in Round Rock, which is like north of the city, you just, you see the infestation, of the Indian diaspora.
Starting point is 00:07:00 I mean, it is, it may as well be fucking Delhi or someplace like that. That's awful. Yeah. Yeah, the Texas,
Starting point is 00:07:11 the Texas, he reminded me of Palm Springs, man. It's, I mean, that's the real desert, you know, um,
Starting point is 00:07:20 I, well, everything in Texas is basically built on a desert. And then, I lived for 20 years in South Florida where everything is built on a swamp. Yeah. Yeah. You know, it's like I've, you go out there and you get this dry heat where you can't breathe unless you have a good breeze.
Starting point is 00:07:38 And you go down in down south where you're, it's like walking out into a steam bath every day. Yeah, that's one of the. Well, speaking of, uh, yeah, speaking of it, some years back, uh, when we went to Amaran, you know, and it was at like the peak of summer, that heat was awful. You know, I mean, it's like,
Starting point is 00:08:00 uh, it's like the Vietnam jungle or something. You know, it's a whole other animal. I mean, it can get pretty fucking hot here in Chicago, but not like that. You know,
Starting point is 00:08:10 it's, yeah, it's very oppressive, man. Is that, is that the year you, um, you,
Starting point is 00:08:14 you ran into Larry Lumer and, uh, and, uh, and great, Greg Lube Johnson? Uh, yeah,
Starting point is 00:08:19 yeah, yeah. Yeah. And, um, we met, uh, Yeah, we ran across Keith Woods.
Starting point is 00:08:31 I think that was the next year. I think Keith Woods was the following year. Well, Keith Woods was with us. There was that photograph because they got this mockup of the Parthenon, and the inside looks like a set from Indiana Jones or something. And a big selling point was that they got good air conditioning. So it went in there, it's like, oh, thank God, you know. I mean, it's kind of a cool little, it kind of reminds me like one of them,
Starting point is 00:08:55 old roadside attractions you know what's um yeah it was whatever whatever year we because Keith was with us and he went to that thing but um yeah it was probably I think yeah I think it was a I think it was the year subsequent
Starting point is 00:09:09 when I ran into like Leary and and and an age bag Justin um I uh yeah no I uh speaking I am run um I'm only gonna go if if Byrne is down to go with me because uh
Starting point is 00:09:23 I like I said, man, I'd love to see Kevin D. and Joey Oliver is our homie, you know, and he's going to be there, but frankly, like, unless, uh, unless one of my partners in crime, like you were
Starting point is 00:09:40 burden is going to go with me. I'm just like, nah, you know, um, but we'll see. You know, um, plus, uh, yeah, no, I've never, I've never had a bad experience there either. unless you count having to like look at Larry Moore but uh
Starting point is 00:10:01 I was the first I say I'm like why is this evil puppet like looking at me is it kind of like pricycle over here and like cut my fucking head off but like uh well the cool thing about Amran was Z man would be there yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah got rest of soul yeah I don't like Jerry Taylor likes me particularly but uh um you know I uh but like I said to be clear no one's ever freedom eat poorly there or anything. But, yeah, I, uh, it'll, I'll go if, uh, Byrne will go with me. Well, I said Byr and I was at fun, um, on, uh, on the road, you know, uh, I can always, I can always rope him into something silly and then he's always down to drink bush mills
Starting point is 00:10:46 during the daytime, so he's a good partner, right? Frank says, um, Thomas thinking Lumer was the same age as him was the funniest fucking thing and so true. I mean, I, I, it's hard to guess women's ages. And like I said, I mean, I'm not, I'm not one of these losers who calls women only or something.
Starting point is 00:11:06 I got an outstanding to do that, obviously. But Larry Lumer is one of the strangest looking human beings I've ever seen. You know, and, uh, she looks like she could be like a rough 22 or, or she could be like 60. You know,
Starting point is 00:11:21 as I, like, she's that puppet from the song movie, you know, like how can you put an age on something like that. But, um, yeah. So have you, um, have you done a live stream since, uh, since the book draw? Yeah, I did one on Saturday with Anthony Ramundo. Anthony was, uh, nice enough to sit in on, on it.
Starting point is 00:11:44 Um, no, frankly, um, and tomorrow, we're recording for the My Invaser pod. Yeah, I wanted to shout out, uh, I, things have been. in a good way, but things have been kind of harried with the book dropping. And my symptoms have been kind of rough the past few days. I've been dealing with some fatigue, man. Which sucks. And I'm not, like I said, I don't want to be some old person who bishops about his health. But that, if they seem kind of inert, I would make it a lot of progress on the manuscript that I sent you that, uh, burden, speaking of burden,
Starting point is 00:12:25 He agreed to help me out with it on the research side. I made good progress in that this week, but otherwise, I got my, my energy's been for shit, man. That's why I haven't, if it seems like I haven't been doing much, that's why. But, I mean, honestly, that's why. There's two reasons. Some people, like, you and Burden, you guys are, like, content machines and your stuff's always fresh. I do the My InVizor pod biweekly, unless I got a lot of stuff in the can, or if, alternatively, if I recorded something and it's referencing something that's in the immediate news cycle, and I think it would be stale if I delayed it. I'll release stuff back to back, but I like giving myself every two weeks, so that keeps stuff fresh.
Starting point is 00:13:18 It kind of lets me plot what I want to cover. but also, man, I, my energy level is very, man. There's times where I feel positively manic and I get in times of work done. There's, like, days where I, I've got like zero fucking energy, man. It sucks. I mean, it's the nature of a rheumatoid stuff, but the,
Starting point is 00:13:37 yeah, the last couple days, I've been a rough. Plus, I'm kind of genuinely nocturnal, man. Like, when I talk about it in, like, Vampire Hib, it's, I mean it. You know, like, I, some of the fellas make fun of me because they they'll say like I'll text on at like three in the morning
Starting point is 00:13:55 you know like what was doing up at three in the morning it's like I'm kind of not turnal man you know so like sometimes they come alive at night well yesterday um yesterday yesterday I was I was uh I was feeling a really rough and then uh I kind of came alive like around sundown so I got hit the landmark and I actually I parked myself in the corner and I got some writing done and um caught up with some locals but uh yeah man i uh in the daylight hours lately i've
Starting point is 00:14:31 i've just felt kind of blah but uh i'll be on point for the party and um but that but again that's why i you know that's why i'm coming home um saturday night um and that'll be good um i'm uh or sleep and then you know the few hours to chill and then before people trickle in but yeah Rob Palmer says you drop like four mind phaser plus radio free Chicago plus a couple of guest appearances and the Nuremberg system in the course of about three weeks
Starting point is 00:15:09 to take your time and rest up man you've been prolific and deserve a little chill I say I appreciate you man yeah and I think in in absolute terms I think my workflow is pretty good but compared to other guys it probably seems like I don't drop on a fresh shit Don't compare yourself to other guys I stopped doing that a long time ago
Starting point is 00:15:33 Oh no no I never work with the quality of my content It's just I mean in my defense Well it's mostly too because like people support the brand by like Subbing bullets so I feel like I want on fresh content You know it's yeah yeah I'd be one thing if I was just like fucking around with a free live stream or something But, you know, people back the brand, you know, they like pay to subscribe. They buy my book.
Starting point is 00:15:59 They, they do all kinds of shit that promote it. You know, I feel like I want fresh content. That's actually worthwhile. And I think that seriously. But yeah, no, I appreciate the sentiment. And, yeah. And in my defense, too, I mean, I'm always, I'm always working on long-form stuff, you know, like it seems like somebody, like some of the girls
Starting point is 00:16:22 at Landmark I mean they're just you know being I mean they're my friends they're just ribbon me you know because they're you know friendly way
Starting point is 00:16:31 but they're like you know I gotta get you know they're like you know I gotta get I gotta get I gotta get Thomas's gig when I get too old to be like you know
Starting point is 00:16:40 shaking my ass for tips you know I'm like look I'm like it probably looks like I'm just like some old dude doesn't really do shit and like sometimes that is true But I'm like, it's actually fucking work, man.
Starting point is 00:16:51 I'm like, you know, I, you know, I, you know, I'm like, I, like writing a research intensive book is hard work. Like, you take another way from guys who are primarily literary guys. But that's like painting a picture or something. It comes from almost like an intercompulsion. You know, if you're writing a highly theoretical text through like a research heavy history book, you're spending like eight hours. I was in my face in a fucking book, you know, like, um, and like I said, I mean, I'm a lucky guy,
Starting point is 00:17:24 you know, like, all the girls, I'm like, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, can't have a thousand historical names memorized, do a pod and write books with a family. He's like a priest. Yeah, that, that, that, that's, that, that, that, that's, that, that, that's, that, that, that, true. And plus, I think I'd be a fuck up with a family man. And like, don't get wrong. I never set out and said, like, I'm not going to get married and have kids. And if, uh,
Starting point is 00:17:59 when I was younger and wasn't, um, and, like, had girlfriends and stuff. Like, if my, if my girlfriend had, had, had, had gotten pregnant, I, that would have been fine. I, I, I, I wasn't, like, a free to date happening. I never, not have TMI, but I never, I never, I never
Starting point is 00:18:18 proactively. We, trying to prevent that from happening. But at the same time, I realized it didn't happen. That's not what God would have for me. And yeah, too. I mean, if I, well, plus two, it's just, everything would be different if I'd a family, like, that changes things. I couldn't be transparent like I am because then I'd be exposing like a wife and kids the shit.
Starting point is 00:18:42 I couldn't just like up and, you know, if somebody like invites me half across the country, I can't just be like go, yeah, I'll get on a grain hump, you know, in two days. It'll change everything, you know. I mean, like I said, if I had a kid, I would have done whatever I had to do to, you know, support my offspring, but, and I like kids, kids are fucking awesome, you know, but I don't. Yeah, it's really weird when people are like, oh, you know, you don't, because both neither one of us have kids and they're like, oh, you know, why?
Starting point is 00:19:13 It's like, well, first of all, you have to get in a kind of situation where that has, happens. Second of all, if you force it, you may be bringing your kid and bringing a kid into a situation that's completely fucked up. No, big time. You know, it's like, they think like, you know, it's like, oh, you know, you're still, you know, you can, you know, you can still shoot a load. Why don't you, you know, divorce your wife and go and go knock up some. It's like, look, fuckers. Why don't you just go fuck yourselves, you know? It's like. Well, yeah, it's also like weirdly, it's it's weirdly
Starting point is 00:19:49 like or really familiar like something about like dude just had dropped that question or the statement is totally right that that was not that was totally well placed
Starting point is 00:19:57 that was not at all but yeah but yeah like there's randos who like stay stuff like that and it's like don't be a gross fuck and it's like
Starting point is 00:20:03 I don't know you like that man and it wasn't you know well also it's you know you're telling you're telling me to do it
Starting point is 00:20:13 to create a situation in which, oh, why don't you abandon? I mean, and this isn't someone, this isn't someone who cares about you. The person who says that isn't someone who cares about you. It's someone who's insulting you because they may have two kids that they can't even fucking afford to, to fucking support. And they're like, oh, you should like me. Yeah, I mean, some guys should be a family man and some guys that's not let's cut off.
Starting point is 00:20:40 You know, to be fair, too, I mean, it's probably people see about me. like people see like I mean I realize people to I mean if it's in good humor I don't mind what anytime like I'll post photos with girls like people like say something like I'm screwing these girls or something like nothing like that is going out I mean not does anybody business but I'm not a fucking hypocrite you know like I stand on what I say I do when I am not some guy like Tom kidding around because like he can't roll up or something I don't do nothing like that you know and um and people say I should lay off I should lay off the Spurgs. It's like, it's the Spurgs who say shit like this, you know? It's like, thanks for listening.
Starting point is 00:21:18 You know, I appreciate it. But, you know, I don't want to hang out. If that's the way you talk, I don't want to hang out with you. We're not going to be friends. Well, yeah, that too. And it, um, what's also, yeah, I mean, I, it, um, I mean, one of the reasons, too, why traditionally, uh, I mean, I put a lot of stock in conventional anthropology, the stuff that's not so based on empirical modeling thing. That's the problem with all conventional negative disciplines. But, you know, like, Dumazel, I say Dumasel a lot. Not just because he wrote fascinating and important things about Indo-Aryan civilization and cultural development. but you know the tri-functional hypothesis
Starting point is 00:22:14 that's part of what's coded into human behavior at scale and the reason why you know whether you're talking about whether you're talking about you know a band of Apaches or some African tribe
Starting point is 00:22:33 whether you're talking about Doric Athens or whether you're talking about you know the Holy Roman Empire there's always some kind of priestly cast of guys who are basically chased and whose business is a
Starting point is 00:22:46 you know they're in like a shaman role you know because that's a natural function that's where that they're the natural functions of of sociological order
Starting point is 00:22:59 you know and that's that's a natural role for a certain category of men you know I think like the girls who I am tight with I think that's important
Starting point is 00:23:11 because if you are a single old guy like me, if you don't hang around women, you turn into a weird. I mean, I like women anyway. Like, they're pretty and they smell good.
Starting point is 00:23:19 And, you know, I, I, this is nice to be around. But I, but, um, and women's,
Starting point is 00:23:25 which is a real thing. Like, you should have, you should have at least one or two ladies on hand. You can ask for, it's kind of like your Benet Jessor and advisor. But, uh,
Starting point is 00:23:35 you know, these girls, you know, they, they see no worry. I'm like lonely or something. I mean, part of that,
Starting point is 00:23:40 and women are kind of hardwired. They see a single guy to be like matchmaker, but it's like, I'm not like lonesome. You know, I don't, I'm really blessed because I got a lot of people who care about me. And, you know, I, if anything, sometimes I, I got to carve out time for me to be a while. So I'm always interacting with people, which is great. I, it's awesome that people who show you love like that. But I never feel like a lonesome or something or, you know, like I said, it's awesome when the fellows bring the wives and kids around because like kids are awesome. You know, being around kids is like,
Starting point is 00:24:12 fine, and they're just, and they're just fun to, yeah, there's fun to hang around with. And, um, so yeah,
Starting point is 00:24:18 sometimes I, I, I, I, I, I think it, you know, it'd be nice to be a dad.
Starting point is 00:24:22 But at the same time, though, I mean, it's like, that's, I'm, I'm, that's easy to say,
Starting point is 00:24:26 you know, because the reality is different, you know, um, and that, and plus, I mean, I mean,
Starting point is 00:24:31 you're not, it's not what was in the cards for me, but I don't, I don't feel sad or lonesome, man. Like, I, uh, um, you know, I, I don't. And, uh, it's kind of, uh, also too, man, like, one of the reasons it's hard to be a young person is, is because you haven't mastered your passions yet. I used, I used to get into a lot of trouble with girls, man, you know, like, uh, because, uh, I, I, uh, I was
Starting point is 00:24:59 attracted to the, I was attracted to the wrong kind of, uh, females. and I always just take things too far you know and um like I said I I mean uh so I don't I don't really I don't miss being 20 years old you know it um
Starting point is 00:25:19 like I said many times man like it's a lot easier to be an old person it's hard to be a young person I don't feel good physically most of the time and that kind of fucking sucks I kind of wish I felt like I did when I was a young guy I because like I you know you be always fueled you know um but that's that's like the one thing
Starting point is 00:25:40 that's better but that's it everything else fucking sucks my comparison you know so let me read some of the comments here um Pete Hunter this is a sarcasm why haven't you answered the 32 part question on the applicability of Hegel to 1863 Mississippi that I sent yesterday Damon. Kirby says, congratulations, well-deserved and timely. So many of our publishing, how the tide is turned.
Starting point is 00:26:14 Boy, how are you. Thank you. Yeah. Bean Mac says, it's interesting how necessary it is to have bachelor's as thought leaders before I became Catholic. I didn't understand why priests needed to be celibate.
Starting point is 00:26:24 There's a similar need for that among the thought-leading class. I mean, you could get into that and you can go all the way back to the schism for arguments against that, but we don't need to do that. And he says Thomas and Pete can stay up reading obscure history while I'm reading
Starting point is 00:26:39 Good Night Moon for the thousand times. Yeah, but that's awesome. Pete Hunter says the pairing up in family stuff comes extremely naturally to some people and they can't understand that it's not that way for everyone. Rob Palmer asks, how many rock, how many rock, how many rock and roll jerseys do you own? Oh, man, I probably, my dad makes fun of me that he's like, you got like, more clothes than abroad, you know? I mean, I mean, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like,
Starting point is 00:27:10 that's, like, baggy. I mean, I don't care, but like, you know, probably, uh, probably, uh, probably a couple hundred. And like, there's ones to, like, you can get these bags. It looks corny. It looks like something like Ron Pope Hill was sold back in the old days, but you get these vacuum seal bags for clothes. I don't like keep, I mean, it keeps like moths from, like, insects from fucking with it.
Starting point is 00:27:33 You can put them into storage. So I've got clothes and, like, longer storage. And I'm also like rocket rolls shirts. Yeah, like, my can't, I was wearing a, an either or else kill stream. I didn't do this deliberately. I just, uh. Cannibal corpse. Yeah, I was around a tomb of the mutilated shirt because that's, uh, I, I'm not a big death metal guy.
Starting point is 00:27:52 Or like, I'm not like a huge metal guy generally, but I, early cannibal corpse, the Barnes era. I really like cannibal corpse. And that era is also just like really gnarly. like just disturbing. Like really, you know, a corpse is like disturbing. That's the way to like describe it. But I got a I got a, I got a dope tomb of the mutilated long sleeve.
Starting point is 00:28:16 And like the Killed Stream guys, like, thought that was really great. And I'm like, oh, that's cool. Like, you know, yeah. No, I've told that I've got a really good shirt game. Like, at the OJC Conclave, like my Tracy Lord shirt was a big fit. he says Rob Palmer says I've been on the hunt
Starting point is 00:28:36 for an unleashed in the East T-shirt for years and the prices I had that when I was a kid I had one Yeah that'd be it's thankfully
Starting point is 00:28:45 there's some good companies like that came up Corpster and I got it from this it's this weird brand and they've actually got a lot of like kind of like left wing
Starting point is 00:28:54 not like LGBTQ stuff but a lot of like pro environment stuff but they've also got a lot of repros of old rock shirts. And that Corp shirt I got, it's got the old font,
Starting point is 00:29:07 and it's an exact mock-up of a shirt that dropped in the early 90s. You know, diddo this one. So, and that's like Tantic-Avermock shirt that I got. That's another one. So you can find,
Starting point is 00:29:22 like, good, you can find perfect reproductions that were like old-school shirts now. And I had a hell of a time finding a creator the German band they played
Starting point is 00:29:35 I saw them with I saw them with DRI like what I was awesome I love D-R-I but um Creator played East Germany
Starting point is 00:29:46 right when they were German border came down East Germany was still was still a state and um so this there's the shirt is it's the Berlin Wall breaching and uh
Starting point is 00:29:58 it's this like army of demons merchant and above Dom is a giant hammer and sickle. And I finally found that shirt, which I've been a little bit for for ages. Awesome. Yeah, yeah, yeah. The creator was a good band.
Starting point is 00:30:18 The in-concert lectures about eating meat could have been left off. But yeah, still, the music. Yeah, that's just, yeah. Yeah, that's very, that's very European. Yeah. Now, DRI's, one of the first, I was always into agnostic front and stuff, and especially in Chicago, like,
Starting point is 00:30:46 there used to be like a huge, frigging punk scene here. You know, like when Clark and Belmont was like a real culture spot, like wax tracks and stuff. But I got into DRI because on a, much as everybody used to like rip on Ricky Rackman as being like this pretty boy like sunset strip guy. Ricky Rackman actually was a dope VJ and he loved DRI. So when thrash zone dropped in like 89 or 90, headbanger's ball was constantly playing abduction and the other like lead track off that record.
Starting point is 00:31:22 And that's how I heard about DRI, you know, because of those. He also, I think he also wasn't he part owner of the rainbow? and he would let all those bands play. I'm not sure if it was the rainbow. He was part of one of those clubs. The Cat House. He didn't tame me down. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:41 And Faster Pussy Cat is an underrated band. Their debut album, their follow-up was watered down. But the original Faster Pussy Cat record, it's like Guns N' Roses. I beg to differ. I mean, the first album was very, Guns and Roses, Arrowsmith,
Starting point is 00:32:02 Hanoy Rocks, but I thought, look what, not look what the cat dragged in, what is it, where there's a way, or is that what, I can't remember what the name of the album was,
Starting point is 00:32:13 but that was heavier. I mean, they really leaned into the guitars more on that album. No, that's true. And, uh, that's true. No,
Starting point is 00:32:21 it's not a bad album, like, in all. I just, I like the original, because it's got, it's, it's just like pure,
Starting point is 00:32:28 like, sunset strips. sleeves. Oh, completely complete sleaze. And like, I'm into that, I'm into that kind of stuff, you know, like, uh, that's what I think is cool. Um, you know, uh, and, uh, if you read, uh, Ace Freely's autobiography is actually really interesting. I mean,
Starting point is 00:32:49 I'm a huge Ace Freely fan, but, uh, anyway, but he talks about, uh, you know, the days when he was like, uh, like, like seriously had like a serious alcohol and coke problem you know he was constantly catching d ys and having all kinds of problems you know he's like he's like my career was on the shitter that's before like fraley's comment and stuff there's like 83 8045 he and uh steve jones you know you know this you got to hear about jones because but you know you after uh johnny rotten was doing the p il thing you know sid vicious was dead jones uh ended up like in LA and he became
Starting point is 00:33:31 like a man about town on the sunset strip. So he was freely was talking about, you know, he's like, I was hanging around with Steve Jones a lot
Starting point is 00:33:39 like haunting bars and he's like, he's like the early sunset strip, he's like, it was rough. You had fucking guys like Eddie Nash who were like
Starting point is 00:33:48 running clubs. You know, you had, uh, there's a lot of heroin going on. Even though like people associate the 80s of like fun and party drugs,
Starting point is 00:33:57 you know, it was really, there was some really grimy street level shit that was and that that's that's that's that's that's stuff like faster pussy kit and and the first guns in a rose that all of came from I mean there was like two sides of strip there was like the sleaze the truth sleaze rod guys and there was like guys like poison who were like she showed up from like philly or new york city because they wanted to be like rock stars I mean it was it was kind of too dianics yeah the um the second faster pussy got out and wake me when it's over has uh right Cry and Shame on it, which is a song about Ricky Caso, about Rickasso. Yeah, yeah, the acid king. That's a weird case. Dude, dude, I grew up. I was in high school when that shit happened, man.
Starting point is 00:34:42 That freaked everybody out. That was crazy. So was the, I got to cover this case with Burden. When, uh, if, if Burden wants to get back to the, a cult series, uh, the murder of Stephen Newberry. That's one of the things that I was in, uh, I was in junior high when it happened, and that was,
Starting point is 00:35:03 that was right, and then one of the dudes who was doing life out parole at like 17, he was on the Herald of Satanism special, and that freaked everybody out, you know, and, yeah, weird,
Starting point is 00:35:18 weird and creepy times, man, you know, a lot of that, a lot of those shows in like the early to mid 80s, like the daytime talk shows, were actually pretty good. It wasn't until like
Starting point is 00:35:31 when Morton Downey came out and just made it a circus and then everybody, then it's like, Geraldo would you be like, oh, we're going to have these white supremacists on and egg them into fights
Starting point is 00:35:42 and then everything just went to shit. But they used to have some really good shows. Yeah, it became like bullshit like TV wrestling. Well, well, that's why I told, well, plus two, one of the things I try and emphasize
Starting point is 00:35:53 to the young buds, you know, when television was the only platform, you'd on daytime talk you'd find uh yeah that's where like Tommy Messker would show up you know or if you were into like underground music like G. Allen and Merrill Allen would show up you know on uh it really was a glimpse of stuff you wouldn't see anywhere except maybe there was there was markets or public access was a thing like especially like New York City I know had a couple of there was like a big public access thing. Yeah, some of which jumped to the mainstream. Like, there's that really weird show beyond vaudeville. And then it got a run on MTV, and they called it Oddville or something.
Starting point is 00:36:36 But it was like a watered down version. But that was interesting. El Goldstein was a scumbag. But he had a public access show that was big, you know, and back when Time Square was still like a Pernahub, you know. And, yeah, it's interesting. But no, those old, those old tabloid TV talk TV shows. But also, too, like, that wasn't scripted.
Starting point is 00:37:06 Like, that's something, Metzger made that point later. He's like, look, he's like, you know, when the Warskins were brawling with ARA, and like when Roy Innis, like, jumped on, um, on, on Metzker's son, Johnny Mepster Like that was real That happened And it was spontaneous You know
Starting point is 00:37:28 I mean if you watch you can tell Those guys are like throwing real shots You know The uh GBGS On the subject of Ian Stewart Donaldson Is there any crees
Starting point is 00:37:47 The notice That the car brake lines were cut I haven't heard that actually I remember when I remember when Stewart died You know Because it was a big deal Especially you know
Starting point is 00:37:58 people who both loved and hated them. I mean, Stuart, like, a lot of... I mean, Stuart liked to drink. And he, I mean, he drove drunk a lot. It's not... I think it was pretty cut and dried. I mean, uh...
Starting point is 00:38:13 Well, it's not the same thing, like, when Yorg Heider died. I mean, he lived kind of a fast life in all kinds of ways. You know, I... If you're gonna, if you're gonna die in, um, of something, other than natural causes,
Starting point is 00:38:32 you know, which includes all manner of disease or cancer or whatever, those are all natural causes. They're going to die of something not related to natural causes. Odds are you're going to die in a car wreck or something, especially if you drink, you know, and people, uh,
Starting point is 00:38:49 one of the reasons why there's like, there's guys who make a very good living exclusively defending D-Ys is because people, people drink and dry constantly, you know, and I think, everybody claims they don't, but they do. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:39:04 I, yeah, I never, uh, plus I, I, I think too, and especially in those days, when, uh, rockerama and, um, the whole skinhead scene was, uh, really kind of popping off in a way things hadn't since the 70s.
Starting point is 00:39:25 If somebody wanted to whack Donaldson, they would have wanted to do it publicly. I think you know I yeah I don't think he was murdered and I've never seen I've never seen credible evidence
Starting point is 00:39:43 to that fact I mean it was real waste I mean dying in a drunk driving wreck it was a stupid way to die you know it was a shame and I think Donaldson was he was in his third using us
Starting point is 00:39:55 he had that not happened need would have had a good run. You know, I, uh, one of the reasons, uh, I quit driving is, uh, I, I, I got in a wreck because I, I, I nodded at the wheel. I mean, that was a messed up. That was the same week, my, then like days later, like my, my brother died. Like, I mean, there's a whole, that was like an awful time my wife. But I, uh, I was driving, um, this bar, uh, you know, there's a bar, uh,
Starting point is 00:40:37 him what used to be the patch called Richards. Like tourists go there because, like, it's an, that's an outfit hangout. And you can still smoke in there and nobody knows why. I mean, I don't, I even like it. And, uh, I knew, uh, we had this kind of, uh, it's kind of like a party how, like my, my Croatian buddy, he lived on, he lived, uh, in the 1400 block of West Deary,
Starting point is 00:41:03 which has become a rough hood. And it was like getting pretty, it was getting rough, real rough, like when he lived there. But we knew that it was it was a Latin king set. But like we became friendly with them guys. Because they'd always be like hanging out on the stoop and stuff. And they got used to us. They were okay.
Starting point is 00:41:19 Like one of their, one of their Puerto Rican grandmas or aunties was like, was like, was trying to give us food. It was really, Puerto Ricans eat good, man. Like it was really fucking good. Oh,
Starting point is 00:41:27 but, uh, yeah, yeah. Yeah. But, um, we,
Starting point is 00:41:32 uh, anyway, uh, there was this bar called Richards and, uh, McCraud buddy, his sister had married this Italian dude from Grand and Ogden. So we always got treated well there. And that's, uh, I wasn't, I wasn't using a heroin then, but I was developing a real habit with, uh, the louded.
Starting point is 00:41:55 And, uh, I, uh, I was at Richards and, uh, I was taking a bunch of the loud and someone I was already fucked up. and I remember there was this African girl I liked who was my buddy sister's friend. She was like an old pair. And we sit down and somebody, I sit down at her table and one of her friends ordered me a gin and honick. And I had like a beer on top of it.
Starting point is 00:42:30 And then I'm driving home and I get on 94, west, which is actually 94 North. That's how you get to the north suburbs from downtown. And I realize, like, I'm really fucked up. You know, but, uh,
Starting point is 00:42:50 I don't really know what to do because it's like, if I just, like, pull over at the shoulder of the road, what am I going to do? Like, sit on the side of the highway until, like, the state police starts, like, what the fuck you do it? And I'm all fucked up. So I'm like, okay, I just got to hold it together. You know, I'm like, holding my breath. I'm like,
Starting point is 00:43:06 tapping my hands and like talking to myself like like don't out do not out don't out don't not out when you pass the fallerton exit uh there's this big median okay um like it starts like when you're just about at fullerton um so it's uh almost uh like comes to a point okay and uh i fell out at the wheel um and i crashed into that median at high speed. And when I came to, I came too because these EMTs were cutting off my seatbelt. And I was fighting them because I was out of it. And I didn't know what happened.
Starting point is 00:43:53 And this one guy said, sir, calm down. If you're injured, you're going to make it worse. And they did tell me later, he's like, when people wreck like that, they'll break their ribs. And he starts struggling, you'll poke your insides. I'm like, see. But, uh, I, uh, this high of course, like a tin can around me. Yeah, I'm really claustrophobic.
Starting point is 00:44:15 So I started freaking out. Um, I was banged up, uh, airbag deployed, uh, I had a bloody nose. But, uh, I wasn't injured. And what I put together later in cart, because this paramedic, uh, who's that, who's a really, uh, he seems to be like a really caring soul. He's like, yeah, he's like, cause he's like, you were fucked up, so you didn't tense up at the point of impact, you just ragdolled.
Starting point is 00:44:45 And he's like, that probably saved you from getting really badly injured. But, um, that was terrifying to, like, wake up in this twisted wreck. And also, I was like, you know, one, I wouldn't be able to live myself if, like, I, What if I, like, what if I killed some lady and two little kids or something? I was, like, horrified that I let that happen.
Starting point is 00:45:09 So I just didn't drive again after that, you know. There was a couple times where I was, like, running from the cops or something. And, like, I got behind the wheel or, uh, one time, uh, when I was going to cop with this kid that I knew, uh, he had a, he had a Chevy bolt, which was a great. little ride. You know, it's the first full electric on the market. You had the option to switch it to like gas to, but it was fast. It handled
Starting point is 00:45:43 like a Camaro. And we had to get out of the hood really fast. We were around Ktown. And he was too fucked up to drive. So I literally like shoved him into the back seat, took the wheel and got the hell out of
Starting point is 00:46:03 there because something really bad was it happened but uh point being like unless i had to like i wouldn't drive and i i mean i i haven't grown for pricking years and years and but uh i'm going to get a driver's license um and i know now i was telling you guys in the chat the other day and a little like text chat you know i'm gonna i'm gonna give myself uh i'm going to give myself a curse or something uh Like, I'm serious. You can, you know, and like Burden said, you know, I can crash in the bag. You can car cap it.
Starting point is 00:46:40 Yeah, exactly. And plus, too, that way, you know, I've always wanted a Cadillate or a Lincoln. And I can score one of these for like under 10 grand. Plus, it's got cat. I would highly recommend the Lincoln because it basically probably would be the same. I think Burden said this as a Crown Vic. And the parts, you'd be. able to find anyone could any mechanic can work on it and the parts would be everywhere yeah yeah big time
Starting point is 00:47:08 no i i'm gonna do it um when uh the royalty cash and the book comes in and um yeah i think uh big d's why he told me that she'd take me to the dmv and i can like use their ride for the test so um that's awesome yeah yeah no hopefully will come to the party like i invite at them and uh that's all I would love to me. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. So we'll see. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:42 But no, they're, they're very good peoples, man. And they're, they're very cool about, like, driving me around and helping me get places. I mean, I'm not at common scene. I'm going to waste nobody's time,
Starting point is 00:47:53 you know, but no, they're very cool people's, man. But yeah, I'm going to, during a, sometime, probably like when,
Starting point is 00:48:05 when I got a break in the travel season, And yeah, all this stuff. I remember before, like, the last time, like, when I went to law school and stuff, I was, like, living downtown. And so I didn't, I, I didn't, I wasn't driving, you know, and like, when I, like, I came to see my folks and stuff, I just, like, take the train. It, uh, so, I mean, I, I let my license just, like, expire, you know? And then, like, when I graduated, you know, I, I, uh, I moved back to the suburb.
Starting point is 00:48:35 So I'm like, well, I, you know, I get a car. and I just went in the DMV and I'm like yeah you know like I haven't had a license for a few years I said to take like some like 10 question tests I did do like the eye test and then they just made me drive on the parking lot and I'll go okay you're good
Starting point is 00:48:50 I regret this was like 20 years ago but I assume it's probably even more fast now in the comments Nah is saying he's in your area let him know when you get the hearse he can do paint correction
Starting point is 00:49:04 fix old paint even Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. 100% man. Definitely, yeah. Yeah. I'll shout it out, man. I'll shout it out.
Starting point is 00:49:12 I'll keep you guys in the loop for the whole process of, uh, there's a, there's a, there's a Lincoln dealership or, uh, yeah, there's a Lincoln dealership on Ogden. Um, but it sounds like Elpro Village or something. It ain't the city, but it, uh, they specialize in, like, livery vehicles, apparently. And, uh, I, uh, an auto trader. That's where I found the Lincoln that I posted up in the check. Yeah, no, I'll keep you guys in the loop. But no, thank you, man. That's very...
Starting point is 00:49:40 Obviously, like, you'll be compensated, but I... It's very generous to you, man, to offer your time and expertise. Um... Yeah, and I think, uh, I, uh... I'm gonna, um...
Starting point is 00:49:57 I'm gonna, like, phantasm it out, too. I'm gonna see, like... I'm gonna see if I can find, like, I can see if I find, like, a sentinel sphere to, like, put on the fucking dash or something. Like, I'm serious. Awesome. Um...
Starting point is 00:50:09 Yeah, yeah. No, I think I think it's got potential, man. You know, and, uh, locally to, uh, I, uh, like all the Chicago hoods, as well as in the north and south suburbs. There's almost like a small town vibe because like everybody like gets to know each other. It's like, I mean, first of all, I'm from here, but also like everybody here knows I'm a weirdo anyway. So like, I, uh, and, um, I, um, I. I'm diplomatic with the local police. So I'm showing me stopped. At least war is supposed to be like, you know, you're just like going to tell me I'm like a jig off. But like driving a hearse, but it's not, uh, it's not like some places where you like a track all the wrong kind of attention.
Starting point is 00:50:55 Oh, I get the feeling anybody who's, uh, who's dealt with you, uh, on a semi-regular basis would see you driving a hearse and be like, all right, that works. Yeah. I mean, yeah, I'm not, yeah, I'm not talking on that. Yeah, so no, I'm, uh, I'm stalked man. And, you know, yeah, and it's, um, bus too, that'll, uh,
Starting point is 00:51:19 that'll give me some freedom. I'm still going to take the bus of the train out, out to like Portland and stuff, but these shorter jrots, you know, I can, like, drive myself there in the nice weather. Like, you know, annually, uh,
Starting point is 00:51:35 for the OGC conclave and stuff like that. So that'll, uh, that'll make things that'll make things easier yeah that's awesome yeah no I'm excited man and uh
Starting point is 00:51:50 this uh mark mark mark needs to calm down a little bit there I mean I'm not disagreeing with them but um yeah still yeah yeah no I mean if that's if that's your thing uh yeah
Starting point is 00:52:08 I'm sure uh I'm sure a funeral whip would help with it. I said, Rob Palmer says, I had a boss who had a sick custom Harley that had a crazy four-tone, black ghost skeleton themed paint job on the bike, kind of see the same,
Starting point is 00:52:28 see the Thomas Hearst dress the same way. Well, interestingly, like, I, I, I'm not like a motorcycle guy, but I do follow a sose the ghost on YouTube.
Starting point is 00:52:39 He's this Rican guy, uh, one percent or, uh, he was, uh, he was, uh,
Starting point is 00:52:45 He wasn't a chingling. He was clicked up with the Thug Rider's MC. And he doesn't interesting background. He was a Crip. Like he banged Crip and like it's rare for Spares people to be affiliated with a Cripset. But any of that, he, he, he, he, he doesn't just talk about Biker's stuff. Like, he's into, like, rock and roll. And I like custom car culture.
Starting point is 00:53:07 That's why I started following him. But he, he's got, uh, yeah, he's got this Harley Cruiser that he mocked up to, like, crazy, like, airbrush stuff. I've been like done right. That stuff's cool as shit, I think. You mentioned the Crips. I was, I don't know if you follow this guy, S2 Underground. He's on YouTube.
Starting point is 00:53:27 He does intelligence and stuff like that. He's been covering the Salt Lake City Tongan gang. There's a... And they basically, like, they have control of a lot of the city.
Starting point is 00:53:43 No, I believe it. The Salt Lake City is odd place too. And there's American Indians there who bang hard. What I was going to say is there's a there's there's Samoan blood sets.
Starting point is 00:53:57 I believe you remember Buiah tribe? They were that hip hop act from the early 90s. Those guys were those guys were Samoans. And if I'm, if memory stirs, those guys all banged blood.
Starting point is 00:54:12 But bloods as I understand it or And Aaron Hernandez, at least he claimed he was, like, clicked up with the bloods out east. They're less, they're different than the Crips. Like, Crips sets are, like, very black, very L.A. based. Like, I guess, Sos, he's a New York City guy, but, like, when he was a juvenile, we got a much of trouble. So, like, his folks sent him out to L.A., then lo and behold, they're saying, such a gangbanging out there. but that's his deal
Starting point is 00:54:45 but no I I didn't have same time at Utah man you know he spent most of the time out by Skinwalker Ranch but I spent I spent a day
Starting point is 00:54:59 hanging around in a Salt Lake City and uh my good buddy out there I uh I I like a miserable flight it was like delayed and then uh
Starting point is 00:55:14 I just like wasn't I was feeling like surly and like not feeling good. So I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, some kind of like martini bar or something where I can get like a decent cocktail. And so we find this cocktail bar, um,
Starting point is 00:55:28 playing the heart of downtown. And, uh, the dude made a decent martini, but like I was looking, but it was basically like a beer and wine bar. And this was like their like shishi cocktail place. You know, like, and I'm not some fucking snob, but it's like, well, this. This place seems, uh,
Starting point is 00:55:46 yeah, it's very unusual. very white. I wanted, did I, did I say that that Tongan gang was with, was with the Crips or did I say they were worth the bloods? So they were a blood set? No, they're a Cripset. Sorry. Interesting. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:06 Well, I don't think, yeah, like I said, I don't think, well, it's also like weird stuff. Like when I've been, I took a photo of it, like, a few years back when I went, when we went to the lake. I disembarked outside Fayetteville to, like, transfer the last, bus for the last jaunt. And it was, like, at this arrest stop. And there was also, like, a truck stop adjacent to it. So I go into the truck stop to get, like, a diet Pepsi and stuff. And on the wall, there's, like, this big-ass, like, vice lord tag. And I'm like, the fuck's, like, putting up vice lord tags.
Starting point is 00:56:44 And then I realized, and then, like, corn rate hit from me. He's like, no, man, he's like, you'll get, like, you'll get, like, like hood guys who got like they're like auntie or their grandma lives down there or their cousins because like white people all have like 800 cousins. It's like dude like you know diddy bop down there or whatever. I don't because he's like got warrants or you know it's just he's got family down there and he wants to do the southern thing. So he'll just like start banging vice lord and like, you know, get a bunch of local knuckleheads
Starting point is 00:57:12 to claim it and then ban. Now you got like a vice lord set randomly in freaking, you know, Fayetteville or whatever. I assume it's that same shit, like, in Salt Lake City. But, um, you got something, like, really hardcore, like, white power skin is. But they're not, they're not, like, they're not like SoCal Peckor Woods. They're, like, maniacally political and, like, not in a cool way and, like, an unhinged way, you know? So, I mean, yeah, Salt Lake ain't, like, some soft-ass town, you know? I mean, I mean, Mormons aren't soft people.
