Starting point is 00:00:00 A streamer appears to have just hit his pregnant wife on camera and the scandal has exploded from there. Your new DHS secretary bragged about spanking his daughter on stage. Trump's daily war briefing is apparently a two-minute montage of explosions like he's a toddler. A chunk of mom-doney supporters are now furious with him over this case he dropped. An open AI killed Sora with Disney's billion dollar deal just dead. We're talking about all of that and even more. On today's brand new Wednesday, Philip DeFranco's show, you daily dive into the news, starting with this. A streamer appears to have hit his pregnant wife on camera, cut the stream, and then went live a few hours later and brought her on to
Starting point is 00:00:30 tell his viewers that he didn't actually do that while people were also pointing out that she looks like she has a black eye on her face. And you're also now seeing old clips of him punching walls and throwing things servicing and getting shared around. And so let's talk about what happened and what's happening. So this is Jordan Cisco. He's a streamer across several platforms with just under 60,000 followers on Twitch. But he's now also gotten a whole lot more attention since this clip went viral. You need to have no drinks in here. Now we will say you can't see him actually make contact, but you do have people noticing too sharp. Arm moving. and rapid succession, each followed by a quick thud, immediately followed by his wife's ouse. You have a lot of people saying when you put all of it together, it looks like he hit her. With some also putting out that when his hand comes back
Starting point is 00:01:08 into frame, it looks to be in a fist. But then, a few hours later, you had Cisco going live again, and he insisted that he didn't hit her while also begging his fans not to send hate to his family and saying they could send it to him, which by that point, it was definitely already happening. And as far as his explanation, he said he was having a panic attack because he spilled an energy drink on his PC, and he was hyperventilating by the time that his wife walked in,
Starting point is 00:01:28 and he said he was moving PCs around, and pushed her because her fingers were trapped under the computer. She had her fingers right here and she literally, that's when she was like, she couldn't get on the on the PC. So I pushed her and she literally was saying out because of the, the, it was on her fingers. It was literally on her fingers. And then he even asked his wife to back him up. Wife, can you, uh, can you come and record this please? Wifee?
Starting point is 00:01:51 By the way, I just went before, I'm talking about the, come here, before I'm talking about everything else like, if I ever did hit her, which, if I ever did hit her, which, if, if I ever did hit her, which, if, is insane. I would never hit my wife and she's pregnant. And stuff on her face. I mean, you could- Yeah, I was not say. You guys can look here. Literally see, like, I have shorts on. There's nothing on- I don't know what else to say.
Starting point is 00:02:11 I mean, I don't know what else is said. But then with that, you had a lot of people pausing the footage and pointing out what appears to be a mark on her face saying that it looks like a black guy. Right then, you had Cisco going on stream again later, still defending himself. I grunted in that. I mean, I grunted, but I wasn't hitting her, bro. I pushed her. That's the only thing that I did.
Starting point is 00:02:26 I didn't, I didn't hit her. I would never hit her on her face, bro. That's- But then also with everything here, you have a number of people saying, you know, this is not the first time he's been violent on stream. Rents to know other clips of surface showing him throwing things and punching walls. In one clip, he's freaking out, punching things, and a woman who appears to be his wife runs in, grabs him, and is begging him to stop. You just got me banned. You just got me banned. You just got me banned.
Starting point is 00:02:49 Stop! Stop! You just got me fucking banned! Stop! You're gonna get, you're gonna ruin your... I don't care. I don't give a fucking... You just got me banned.
Starting point is 00:03:03 You just got me fucking banned. So you have some saying, you know, this didn't come out of nowhere, saying, you know, this is a documented pattern of explosive violent behavior on camera and now you have people connecting the dots. And so with that, you've got people online calling for him to be banned from Twitch, TikTok, everywhere. Meanwhile, you're also seeing others saying, you know, this warrants a criminal investigation at least. Others saying you should be arrested for domestic violence.
Starting point is 00:03:21 And a lot of people saying, you know, they're afraid if this goes unchecked, it's going to happen to her again or maybe to their child down the line. Especially because you have so many people saying they don't believe him that he's constantly shifting his explanation, saying I was having a panic, Then I pushed her because her fingers were stuck and then I grunted but I didn't hit her and personally I'll say based off of everything that we can see out there I don't believe him like to me and again this part's my opinion None of those explanations seem to add up and the reason I want to talk about this today is you know this isn't You know we covered a lot of that back in the day and the old version of the show we've definitely evolved since then but this isn't drama
Starting point is 00:03:53 This looks like domestic violence that was captured in front of a live audience again I want to be careful with how I talk about this but it looks a certain like it would literally make more sense if he said Oh, it was actually a prank. It was really like it was a distasteful prank. We were just trying to go viral, which I mean, also at this point, I wouldn't even believe them if they said that. And as someone that was around and witnessed abuse growing up, like even the having your pregnant wife go on camera and tell everyone, oh, he didn't hurt me.
Starting point is 00:04:17 So many parts of this, it feels like a textbook pattern that I think almost anyone familiar with like abusive dynamics is gonna recognize. And so with all that in mind, it's why you're seeing so many people saying the platforms have a responsibility here. Twitch, TikTok, every platform that Cisco streams on, they need to look at his footage,
Starting point is 00:04:30 look at the old clips, make a decision. But for now, that is, where we are that is a story, then of course again, my opinion, and I'll pass the question off to you, what are your thoughts here, whether you agree or disagree with me? I'd love to know your reactions in those comments. Especially because these old clips aren't the only ones resurfacing at the moment, right? Because our newly sworn-in-DHS secretary, Mark Wayne Mullins, face an heat over an old video where he brags about spanking his daughter and tells the audience he threatened to drag a teenager's across asphalt. And you have many saying, you know, this isn't some context gatchezed,
Starting point is 00:04:55 it's a pattern. People noting that this is the same guy who said he understood why Rand Paul was assaulted, challenged the Teamsters Union boss to a fight during a hearing, and posted a video implying that journalists who write fake news should be killed. Now, that's the guy running the department in charge of ICE. So the video in question is not actually too old. It's from 23 when Mullen was speaking in front of a conservative Christian organization called city elders. You have him talking about being raised by fear of the belt, using spanking to discipline his own kids, and then he told this story about his daughter. Now, you take Lara, for instance, when she was a girl trying to spank Curtdale was like a four-minute ordeal because she's like,
Starting point is 00:05:27 No, daddy, no, daddy, no, daddy. I'm sorry, Daddy, I'm sorry, daddy. And then she'd get madder and matter, and she just couldn't bring herself to even bend over for me to ever bust her butt. And I was like, honey, you got like two seconds, are you going to get two instead of one. Well, it also talked about spanking one of his sons,
Starting point is 00:05:40 saying it was hard because the kid was already tearing up before it happened. It's hard to discipline them when they're truly sorry, but sometimes you still got to discipline them. But it also wasn't just the spanking stories that raised eyebrows. In the same speech, Mullen talked about his daughter's boyfriend. Tell you what, he's a great kid, but, ugh, He's dating my daughter and I don't like him.
Starting point is 00:05:59 I just can't... I told him, I said, if I ever see you kiss her in front of me, I'm dragging her face across the asphalt. And that's a true story. I told him that. Now, there, you could argue if he was joking, like a dad joke thing.
Starting point is 00:06:13 He probably didn't literally intend to do that, but you had a lot of people pointing out that threatening a teenager with violence and then bragging about it on stage is at minimum a weird thing for a public official to do, especially if they seem very proud of it. And then regardless of where you fall on spanking as a punishment, you had a lot of people finding it just unsettling
Starting point is 00:06:27 to hear a cabinet secretary casually bragging on stage about physically disciplining his kids and graphic detail. And so with that, you had the Democrat's official account writing, he's bragging his daughter. This is who's running ice for Trump now. But you also had others being more direct saying people who beat their children should be in jail, not in office. But then also where a lot of people get concerned is, I mean, we talked about it before, people saying there's a pattern here. People saying Mullen has a documented history of casually condoning violence. During his confirmation hearing, Senator Rand Paul went after him for saying that he understood
Starting point is 00:06:52 why Paul was assaulted by a neighbor back in 2017, an attack that left Paul with broken ribs. I was shocked that it would justify and celebrate this violent assault. That caused me so much pain and my family so much pain. I just wonder if someone who applauds violence against their political opponents is the right person to lead an agency that has struggled to accept limits to the proper use of force. Well, it also challenged the head of the Teamsters Union to a physical fight during a Senate hearing, and then of course there's the journalist thing. He posted a video telling the story of a clash between a reporter and a congressman in 1890,
Starting point is 00:07:22 and the reporter had written a negative story about the lawmaker. They feuded for years. and eventually the reporter shot the congressman in the face. 11 days later, the former congressman passed away from his wounds. Kincaid pleaded not guilty. And of all the things that it could have been, Mullen's takeaway was this. There's a lot we could say about reporters and the stories they write, but I bet they would write a lot less false stories, as President Trump says, fake news,
Starting point is 00:07:48 if we could still handle our differences that way. And so ultimately it seems like for a lot of people, this is kind of a filling in the blank. They are coloring in the lines sort of situation. With a lot of people knowing that, you know, you were gonna have a loyalist, but maybe an unhinged loyalist is running the Department of Homeland Security now.
Starting point is 00:08:03 So you have many wondering, you know, what happens next across the board, but especially with organizations like ICE. An organization that's already been criticized for being incredibly cruel and killing Americans in the street. For now, we'll see how it plays out. Who knows? Maybe Mark Queen Mullen,
Starting point is 00:08:16 when put in a position of power, is gonna be super, super chill about it. Maybe he's never seen Spider-Man, and he watches Spider-Man, and he's like, you know what, Uncle Ben's right. With great power comes great, great responsibility. Also, Joe Biden won the 2020 election. No, I don't think, I don't think any of that's happening. We'll see, though. And then there's more we've got to dive into in just a
Starting point is 00:08:32 minute, but first, let me thank a sponsor and say, you notice that time of year when you look outside and you remember, hey, we have an outdoor space and it could probably use some love. And that's why you need to know about today's sponsor, fast-growing trees. You know, fixing up your yard, it sounds easy until you realize picking the right plant, it means figuring out climate, soil, sunlight, watering, and weather it'll actually thrive. Fast-growing trees, it helps make that process easier. Just plug in your location and they'll show you plants and trees that are actually suited to your area, which is great, especially if you'd prefer to not accidentally buy something that your yard immediately rejects. And they are the largest online nursery in the U.S. shipping trees and plants straight to your door and they help take the
Starting point is 00:09:05 guesswork out of the whole thing. They've got fruit trees, privacy trees, flowering trees, shrubs, whether, I mean, you're looking for more shade, better curb appeal, or just for your place to look a little more alive. And they back their plants with an alive and thrive guarantee with ongoing support from plant experts. Because, you know, we're gonna need that. So hey, go to fastgrowing trees.com slash DeFranco and use code at checkout to get 20% off your first order. That's fast-growing trees.com slash Defranco Code DeFranco. Offers valid for a limited time, terms and conditions may apply.
Starting point is 00:09:33 Then, diving right back into the news, TSA sharing your information with ICE while they're grabbing parents and kids straight out of the endless lines that are still pouring out the door. And once they're arrested, the Trump administration seems to be sending them to unfamiliar countries without even giving them a fair trial in court. You've got the New York Times reporting
Starting point is 00:09:47 that TSA agents tipped off ICE agents before an arrest at San Francisco International Airport on Sunday night. Angelina Lopez Jimenez, who, You see in the video with a nine-year-old daughter, she had a deportation order since 2019. And reports say that they were flagged on the flight list, which allowed TSA to tip off ice savings. But one of the biggest questions is, how are they flagged in the first place? And well, apparently, last year, the Trump administration quietly created a partnership between ICE and TSA,
Starting point is 00:10:20 allowing ICE to check and flag TSA air traveler list for passengers with deportation orders. With the spokesperson for DHS saying the message to those in the country illegally is clear, the only reason you should be flying is to self-deport home. So you have the former deputy head of the ICE office in New York City saying, The administration has turned routine travel into a force multiplier for removals, potentially identifying thousands who thought they could evade the law simply by boarding a plane. Now, I will say, it is not a new thing for federal entities to have some level of access to airline passenger information, which may be used for national security reasons.
Starting point is 00:10:48 But also, allegations at TSA specifically tipping off ICE agents for arrests, it's raised concerns about how much data is actually being shared in these inconspicuous ways. And so Democratic officials have heavily criticized data sharing in this administration, saying that it seemed to be omnipresent under the Trump administration, putting personal information at risk and bypassing, due process. And in this particular case, they criticize the administration for using this data to arrest moms and kids instead of the dangerous criminals that we've been told that they're supposed to be focusing on. Also, you've got people concerned that this data sharing and preoccupation with ICE
Starting point is 00:11:14 arrests that could distract from airport security and the effort to cut down on wait time. And with this, you have people like a senior ICE official during the Biden administration also saying that if you have more officers conducting arrests at airports, it puts more strain on the system. Delays and complications may annoy and frighten some travelers. You know, as ICE's increased presence of US airports is yet to make a significant change in the wait times and TSA officials say, you know, it takes months for agents to be fully trained on security checkpoints. This whole incident, it makes you a question of the data sharing and the arrests were the real agenda to begin with. And then just adding insult to injury, these ICE arrests are leading to quick, sloppy deportation processes that are violating people's basic rights.
Starting point is 00:11:48 Right, earlier this month, the federal appeals court allowed the Trump administration to resume expedited deportations, which reports say are landing people in unfamiliar countries without even giving them the time to fight back in court. Now, a judge had previously decided that these rushed deportations were a violation of migrants' due process rights, leaving them vulnerable to that exact. problem. But the policy being used allows migrants to be sent to those countries if authorities, quote, either have credible diplomatic assurances, they will not be persecuted or tortured have sent there, or have given migrants as little as six hours of notice that they are being sent to such a place. And you have DHS saying that despite these dangers, the appellate court was right to remove the restriction because they must be allowed to execute this lawful authority and remove illegal aliens to a country willing to accept them. But then also, even if that wasn't enough,
Starting point is 00:12:25 these expedited deportations are leading to overworked immigration lawyers, especially in Minnesota, where some minds have been taken a huge hit in the immigration crackdown. In fact, two Minnesota legal providers of filed a lawsuit claiming that the administration has been denying Somalians the right to a fair hearing Right and they say that the Justice Department has placed Somalian nationals on a separate docket and scheduled hearings with little notice Leaving their lawyers with almost no time to prepare proper representation and Kelsey Hines who owns Heinz immigration law one of the groups that filed the lawsuit said This is not about efficiency or docket management saying this is undeniably Targeted policy that singles out one nationality designed to rob them of the due process they are legally guaranteed and to strip their legal teams of the ability to adequately and ethically prepare their cases for hearing and in fact well immigration cases can normally take years. Reports say that hearings for Somalians that were scheduled to take place as late as 2028,
Starting point is 00:13:08 they have been rescheduled with as little as one month's notice. And you at Heinz saying in a statement that 97% of her Somali client cases have been rapidly advanced in this type of manner saying that even if she worked 12 hour days, seven days a week, she would still be 7,000 hours short of the time that she would need to prepare for those cases. So not only is the Trump administration targeting migrants in the airports, but once these arrests are made, they also have basically no time to work with a lawyer to build a case for themselves. And then if they're deported, apparently, there's also no guarantee. that they'll actually end up in a country they have any connection to. Oh wow, the only thing longer than the lines at airports that ICE hasn't made at Denton is the list of cases on those immigration lawyers' desks. And then at the same time, ICE is being equipped with more access to data and tools like AI
Starting point is 00:13:46 to further this assault on immigration. And then actually on the note of AI, oh my God, I'm such a professional, this transition's amazing. On the note of AI, Open AI, they're killing SORA, not just the app, like everything. You have the Wall Street Journal reporting that Sam Alton told the staff
Starting point is 00:13:59 that the company is winding down all products that use its video models, including the developer version, and video features inside of chat GPT. This is huge, this is a tool that everyone thought was gonna revolutionize Hollywood. Disney literally put a billion dollars behind it. It was the number one app in its category within days of launching and now, boom, it is dead
Starting point is 00:14:15 because OpenAI realized that the money is actually in competing with Anthropic, not making AI videos. But again, when SOAR launched in 2024, it was the AI product that everyone was just talking about. It could generate increasingly realistic videos that were just harder and harder to detect. So so many fake ring camera videos of animals with guns,
Starting point is 00:14:29 people were worried about deep fakes, Hollywood was worried about its jobs, and it was a genuinely, And then this last October, when things really blew up, you had OpenAI releasing a standalone SORA app and second-generation model that was even more advanced. Within days, it was the most downloaded app in the iOS App Store's photo and video category two months after that Disney announces that one billion dollar investment in Open AI as part of a deal that would give SOR users access to popular Disney characters. Like everything was pointing to this being a huge part of the future, especially Open AIs. But then, as far as what happened, well, the short answer is anthropic.
Starting point is 00:14:58 They're open AI's biggest competitor, and you know, they've really focused on productivity tools for software engineers, and corporate users, and then kind of worked their way from that to Normies. And that has absolutely been working. Anthropic has been growing its revenue at a faster rate than OpenAI. And in fact, when OpenAI first launched the SORA app, some employees were reportedly surprised that the company was pouring computing resources into a project that didn't have a clear demand. But all then, you know, he wanted to be ambitious and expand market dominance, but now you have the company doing a complete 180. But according to the journal, Open AI is reallocating resources to compete directly
Starting point is 00:15:27 with Anthropic by building AI agents and productivity tools aimed at coders and enterprise users. In fact, they've already been shifting computing power and top talent in that direction. Just last week, you had OpenAI announcing it was combining the chat GPT desktop app, coding tool codex, and Atlas browser into one super app. And seemingly, SORA just doesn't fit into that vision anymore. And so then also with that, the Disney deal is reportedly dead. A billion investment, access to some of the most recognizable characters in the world, all built around SORA, just gone. And you know, it ends up highlighting something important about the AI industry right now. Even a company pulling in nearly $13 billion in revenue last year can't do everything at once,
Starting point is 00:15:59 At least not yet. And that's as Open AI expects to spend around $100 billion over the next four years, mostly on data centers. Right, every dollar and every GPU, it has to go somewhere and Altman has decided, video generation is just not where the money is. And also, I'll say, speaking of that $100 million in spending, while AI companies are racing to expand their operations as fast as possible, a growing number of lawmakers are starting to push back. Right, and for example, today you had Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez announcing plans to introduce legislation that would effectively ban new AI data center construction until Congress enacts federal regulations. And among the things that the bill would do, it would halt construction until lawmakers codify safeguards,
Starting point is 00:16:33 including government review, and approved for new AI products, policies to prevent job displacement, protections ensuring data centers don't worsen climate change or raise electric bills for nearby consumers and labor requirements like union construction workers. And with that, you had Bernie saying we cannot sit back and allow a handful of billionaire big tech oligarchs to make decisions that will reshape our economy, our democracy, and the future of humanity. We need serious public debate and democratic oversight over this enormously consequential issue. But here's your friend, your neighbor, your uncle, Phil. here to ruin your day. This bill is definitely not gonna pass.
Starting point is 00:17:03 Okay, I love you, I gotta give you that reality check, but if anything, I would say this is kind of more symbolic than anything, it's more forward leaning and thinking than anything. It's a signal from Bernie and AOC that there is a growing demand for AI guardrails, even as the Trump administration does everything it can to just let the industry run without limits and they're actively trying to prevent states from imposing their own restriction.
Starting point is 00:17:21 It's like they have an economic incentive and or ties to the industry that would make it where they would not want to do that or something. Especially because the public is on Bernie and AOC's science, Here. Polls consistently show that Americans support AI regulation and they are concerned about its impact on jobs, energy prices and the environment. And populist lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, they have pushed for more regulation and responds to constituent concerns. Right, and at the local level, we're already seeing action. Since August of 2025, multiple towns and counties have passed temporary bans on data center construction.
Starting point is 00:17:46 At least 11 states, they're considering similar legislation and more than 200 advocacy groups wrote a letter to Congress urging a federal moratorium before the bill was even introduced. But again, all of that runs up against the machine, whether it's the AI machine, the Trump machine, a lot of the the places, they're kind of the same. You know, the president wants basically no limits on AI industry groups. They're spending tens of millions to elect pro-AI candidates in the midterm. And even as public support for regulation grows, Congress that could end up stacked with members whose campaigns were funded by the very companies people want regulated. But then also with this, I'll say, you know, while you have AOC and Bernie Sanders shooting
Starting point is 00:18:17 for the star, you have some saying that Zoran Mundani is rapidly falling back down to earth. Because New York City's new mayor is facing a $5.4 billion budget deficit. You've got people saying his plan to pressure the state into tackling the rich has collapsed. He just quietly abandoned a property tax hike that he threatened a month ago. And you've got people saying that last night he broke a campaign promise on housing
Starting point is 00:18:35 by appealing a case that he swore that he would drop on day one. And so you have some people saying, this is a betrayal. He and others saying, you know, he's doing all that he can. And so let's get into what's actually happening. And so where we should start is that last month, you and Mum Donnie is standing in front of his constituents
Starting point is 00:18:46 and declaring New York City is facing a serious fiscal crisis. He blamed Eric Adams and Andrew Cuomo for the $5.4 billion deficit and he laid out two options. Option one, Governor Kathy Hochel and the state legislature raise income taxes by 2% on New York's 33,000 wealthiest residents, people making over a million dollars a year, raised corporate taxes, and stop draining city resources to the state. And then option two,
Starting point is 00:19:06 if Albany refuses, the city dips into its cash reserves and hikes property taxes, a 9.5% increase on over 3 million single family homes, co-ops, and condos plus more than 100,000 commercial buildings. And you had the Citizens Budget Commission estimating that would mean about $700 extra a year for the typical owner of a one, two, or three-family home. But that, it was widely read as a threat to pressure Albany into taxing the rich, and apparently Hokel read it that way. You had sources telling the New York Times that she was greatly angered by the framing and thought that Momdani's presentation was grandstanding. With the April 1st deadline for the state budget approaching fast, Hockel hasn't budged, the state legislature hasn't budged, and it actually looks like Mumdani's the one who buckled.
Starting point is 00:19:40 You now have the Times reporting that he has all but given up on hiking property taxes. Local elected leaders from across the political spectrum, left progressive, centrist Democrats representing black homeowners. They told him it was just a non-starter. In fact, city hall officials were reportedly taken aback by the level of opposition. And you had a former colleague from the state legislature telling Mumdani directly. If you go through with this, you'll be a one-term mayor. So he quietly retreated. He told City and state lawmakers that he was highly unlikely to pursue the increase
Starting point is 00:20:03 and said that he was optimistic about getting more state aid to close the gap. But he still wants to hike up income tax on millionaires. And according to New York Focus, he's now also asking the state to raise taxes on corporations, unincorporated businesses, and high-value real estate. But the leverage play, right, the property tax thread that was opposed to force Albany's hand, that looks like it's dead. And then with all this, we've got to talk about City Pheps, right? The fighting, homelessness, and eviction prevention supplement.
Starting point is 00:20:24 It's this rental assistance program created in 2018. that now covers over 65,000 households. And the way that it works is that low-income tenants often people moving out of homeless shelters find a private apartment and pay 30% of their income and rent while the city covers the rest. Currently, this program costs $1.2 billion. It's projected to hit $4.7 billion by 2030,
Starting point is 00:20:42 largely because in 2023, the city council passed laws broadening eligibility by removing work requirements, raising the income limit and extending coverage to people facing eviction who aren't in a shelter yet. And you have housing advocates saying that the expansion is critical as the cost of living is soared and Trump has cut federal rental assistance. But when Eric Adams was mayor, he refused to implement it and challenge its legality in court, arguing that the city couldn't afford it and the council.
Starting point is 00:21:03 He then had a state court initially siding with Adams, but an appeals court sided with the council. Mumdani, he campaigned on dropping the case entirely and implementing the expansion. It was one of his clearest promises. But last night, he appealed it to New York's highest court. Now, to be fair, Mamdani tried to find a middle ground. He proposed keeping work requirements and income limits the same, but expanding eligibility to people facing eviction from rent-stabilized apartments. Ready negotiated with council members and housing activists, but they couldn't reach a deal. went back to court. With this, you still had many unhappy. You had a shelter operator telling the
Starting point is 00:21:30 Gothmas that she was shocked and dadding. Candidate Mumdani and mayor-elect Mumdani promised to drop the appeal on day one and saying this is the classic political example of promise made, promise broken. Now with all that said, you know, there's still a lot that could shift here. The state budget should land in April. Mumdani's next city budget presentations due May 1st. The city budget itself is due June 30th. And then, you know, with all this, there's the stock market, which directly affects how much tax revenue the city projects. That's not exactly cooperating with it right now. So, Momdani, well, he's in a position. It's why I would never want a real job.
Starting point is 00:21:57 He is caught between a deficit he inherited, a governor who won't help, a council that wants more spending, housing advocates who feel betrayed, homeowners who will revolt over property taxes and an economy that keeps making everything harder. As far as why this matters and why it feels like we should talk about this, is, you know, seeing this, I think it kind of highlights what happens when a campaign meets a budget spreadsheet. You know, this is not a dig. It's not an attempt to tear down someone just because they got built up so high. I mean, I remember going into the election.
Starting point is 00:22:21 There were a lot of people that were like, I don't know how much he's actually going to be able to accomplish from what he's talking about, but I think that he's going to try. So far, it does seem like he's trying. But what's going to be interesting to watch from here is, well, seeing what he's able to accomplish as well as what is the reaction from the people that voted him into office. Right, how does the coalition that elected him, how do they react when, you know, he's trying to explain the limitations of his role and why he's not able to deliver certain things or he makes moves that you wouldn't think that he would. But for now, we'll wait and see. And especially if you live in New York City, I'd love to know your thoughts on everything that's happening right now. You're happy with them.
Starting point is 00:22:52 you're frustrated with them somewhere in between. Let me hear from you. But then from that, as we get closer to the end to today's show, I wanna end with congratulations and one final thing. Starting with a congrats to Bridget G, C-Geek's latest weekly winner who just scored $500 in tickets and is heading to see
Starting point is 00:23:05 the Florida Panthers with her fiance to celebrate how they met. But the rest of y'all, that's right. Seekeek is still giving away $500 in tickets and you should definitely answer today if you haven't already. You could be the next winner and snag $500 towards seeing your favorite artist,
Starting point is 00:23:15 sporting event or play. There's like over 70,000 events to choose from. And you just gotta add code to Franco to your Ckeek app profile for a chance of the weekly $500 prize, no purchase necessary. But then, the final thing that we should talk about today is that the U.S. sent Iran a 15-point peace proposal, which Trump claimed it had already largely agreed to, but instead, if you had the country blasting the deal and laying out its own demands. Right,
Starting point is 00:23:33 and that's as the American military may be getting ready for this war to last a lot longer, ramping up defense production, expanding eligibility, and sending thousands more troops to the region. But definitely where we should start is with a 15-point peace plan, which is believed to have been sent from the U.S. to Iran via Pakistan. And the Trump administration had apparently been hoping to discuss it with Iran at an in-person meeting in Pakistan as soon as tomorrow. And the plan it reportedly calls on Iran to dismantle its three main nuclear sites and any enrichment on its soil, suspend its ballistic missile program, curb support for its regional allies, and fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz. And in return, Iran would have nuclear-related sanctions lifted and the U.S. would assist the country's civilian nuclear program.
Starting point is 00:24:06 And U.S. envoy Steve Wittkoff reportedly told Trump that the Iranians had already agreed on several key points, including on giving up their stockpile of highly enriched uranium. Which would definitely be a pretty massive step forward, but it was also never clear whether anyone really made those commitments on Iran's behalf, or if they did, whether they had the authority. Also, it's not even clear who in Iran's government would be able to negotiate or if they'd be willing to, as Israel has said, that it plans to keep targeting the country's leaders. And in fact, senior Iranian officials have reportedly been having trouble communicating with each other, at least partly because they're worried that Israel might bomb them if they meet in person. A thing that Trump seemingly acknowledged with his recent refusal to name the person that the U.S. had allegedly been talking to, other than saying that it's not the supreme leader, but they seemed to be in charge. And yesterday, you had him continuing to shed light on how Israel's tactics have made negotiating even more difficult than usual. They have no Air Force left.
Starting point is 00:24:50 They have no anti-aircraft equipment left, no radar left, no leaders left. The leaders are all gone. Nobody knows who to talk to. But we're actually talking to the right people, and they want to make a deal so badly. You have no idea how badly they want to make a deal. And we'll see what happens. You also had dropped making this strange claim of the U.S. had received a mysterious gift from Iran.
Starting point is 00:25:11 They did something yesterday. That was amazing, actually. They gave us a present. And the president arrived today. a very big present worth a tremendous amount of money. But Trump didn't say what it was other than suggesting it was oil and gas related and connected to the flow in the Strait of Hormuz. And on that note, you know, while it's not clear that this is what Trump was referring to,
Starting point is 00:25:31 you did have Iran sending a letter to the UN's Maritime Organization yesterday claiming that non-hostile ships may pass safely through the Strait of Hormuz. With Iran defining non-hostile vessels as those which neither participate in nor support acts of aggression against Iran or belong to the United States or Israel. But then with that, you had analysts arguing that this is unlikely to encourage many more ships to try their luck, making their way through the straight since so many countries have ties to the United States. But in any case, you had Trump claiming the gift from Iran, whatever it was, showed that the U.S. was dealing with the right people in Tehran saying,
Starting point is 00:25:59 they said they were going to do it and it happened and they are the only ones that could have done it. Which is quick sidebar. Why is it every, every quote from Trump is like me riffing while I'm trying to give a book report on a book I didn't read? But also with this, one of the things you saw where the markets responding to the possibility of the situation improving, with the price to oil falling 5% and $99 a barrel, even though, you know, it wasn't remotely clear that this war was actually nearing the end. Because one, it's not known whether Israel supports Trump's 15-point plan, and two, Iran gave no indication that it would be willing to accept the plan as even a jumping-off point to begin negotiations. And in fact, while Iranian officials have acknowledged receiving
Starting point is 00:26:32 messages from the U.S. through intermediaries, they continued to deny Trump's claim that negotiations were even underway. And you had one military spokesperson mocking Trump in a statement saying, has the level of your inner struggle reached the stage of you negotiating with yourself? People like us can never get along with people like you. And then, on the other side of this, well, you know, the US appeared to be interested in negotiating, as we know, appearances can be deceiving. Right, despite this apparent push for diplomacy, there have been continued signs that the US may be gearing up for a long-term conflict. We're seeing things, like the Defense Department just reached deals with defense firms to boost production of munitions as part of a push to put the military on a wartime footing.
Starting point is 00:27:04 Also, they just raised the maximum enlistman age from 35 to 42 years old and made it easier to join the military if you have a conviction for marijuana or drug paraphernalia possession. Though I would say most notably, at least when it comes to a potential escalation in the very near future, the Pentagon's reportedly ordering the deployment of about 2,000 more soldiers to the Middle East, bringing the number of additional troops deployed to the region since the war began and nearly 7,000. And with all this, you had White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt confirming yesterday that the U.S. operation in Iran continues unabated to achieve the military objectives laid out by the Commander-in-Chief in the Pentagon. With also an advisor to Trump reportedly telling Axios,
Starting point is 00:27:35 Trump has a hand open for a deal and the other is a fist waiting to punch you in the fucking face. So, you know, maybe not the most reassuring thing for the other side. you also had Axios reporting that Trump's decision to send thousand more troops to the region. It's only increased their suspicion that, you know, this proposed for peace, it's just a trick. But with Iranian officials reportedly having told countries trying to mediate peace talks that they don't want to be fooled again and referring to the fact that Trump has now twice attacked Iran in the middle of negotiations. And then with all that, you had Iran Speaker of Parliament saying on social media today that his country was closely monitoring all U.S. movements in the region, especially troop deployments and adding, do not test our resolve to defend our land.
Starting point is 00:28:08 With an Iranian media later reporting that Iran had officially rejected the White House's proposal calling it excessive and laying out its own five conditions for a ceasefire and ending the war. With that, including an end to attacks and assassinations, mechanisms to ensure they wouldn't pick back up, compensations for damages and recognition of Iran's authority over the Strait of Hormuz. And in the meantime, like the U.S. and Israel, Iran has also kept up its attacks. With his military claiming today to a fired cruise missiles at an American aircraft carrier, the USS Abraham Lincoln after warning that it would strike if the vessel came within range. Though this is reportedly far from the first time that the ship has been targeted,
Starting point is 00:28:39 with Trump claiming yesterday that more than 100 missiles had been launched to the carrier. but every single one of them was knocked down. But there you have many noting, well, okay, well, it only takes one though. And if you or they keep fighting, you might eventually get hit, which is something that Israel is increasingly having to deal with. Recent strikes, they've shaken confidence in the country's air defenses and even raised questions about whether it may be running short on interceptors. And of course, with this, you know, air defenses across the entire region,
Starting point is 00:29:01 they're being tested. Kuwait's defense ministries said at least six drones have been intercepted since yesterday evening, with a fire breaking out overnight at the country's international airport after some made it through and hit a fuel tank. Saudi Arabia's defense ministry said at least 30 drones have been intercepted. since last night. And the UAE, they said that its air defenses had intercepted nine drones just today.
Starting point is 00:29:17 And the hits that these Gulf countries are taking. They're part of the reason that some are reportedly pushing Trump to continue the war and even actually come around to the idea of joining themselves, which is something we talked about yesterday. Though, I will say, an update to that is that, according to Bloomberg, Turkey is trying really hard to stop Gulf Arab countries from joining the war.
Starting point is 00:29:31 And as other countries, they're still just focused on trying to manage the chaos. Right, today, Iraq's prime minister directed his foreign ministry to summon the top American diplomat in Baghdad to give him a strongly worded letter, a protest over strikes against the country's popular mobilization forces, which are technically sort of part of Iraq's regular armed forces,
Starting point is 00:29:47 but are actually partly backed by Iran. Earlier today, seven soldiers were killed and 13 injured in a strike on one of their bases, a day after another strike killed 15 on the same base with the group blaming the United States. Although there I'll say, you know, that's the kind of complex, sort of tangential news. You wonder if Trump really has even any idea about,
Starting point is 00:30:03 especially based on recent reporting from NBC that has suggested that one of the main ways that he gets updates on this war, this is gonna sound insane, but also so true, is through daily, two-minute montages of the biggest, most successful strikes of Iranian targets over the previous 48 hours. Like, it sounds like they just open up a, the version of TikTok that's just for him. Trump talked.
Starting point is 00:30:21 With one official describing each daily video as just a series of clips of stuff blowing up. Now, that's said, Trump is also reportedly updated through conversations with top military intelligence advisors and foreign leaders as well as news reports. But this sizzle reel situation apparently has some of his allies worried that he's not really getting the complete picture of the war. Or with one official claiming that the information that Trump gets about the war, it tends to emphasize the military's successes while giving relatively little time to Iranian actions. And you have others suggesting that the videos are driving his growing frustration with media coverage of the war. So for example, according to NBC, Trump wasn't briefed on an Iranian strike that hit five American refueling planes in Saudi Arabia a couple of weeks ago. He only learned about what happened from media reports. And so he then reportedly
Starting point is 00:30:58 asked about what happened, was told the planes weren't badly damaged and complained privately about the coverage of the attack before going public with a post on social media, accusing those in certain media organizations of being truly sick and demented people. And then with all this, you actually had Joe Kent, the intelligence official who resigned over the war, making similar points to what these other officials were saying, recently telling Tucker Carlson. A good deal of key decision makers were not allowed to come express their opinion to the president. Well, there wasn't a robust debate. So in general, because our assessment really hadn't changed, you know, we would send those up through intelligence channels. Everybody's kind of reading the same
Starting point is 00:31:31 intelligence, but then what actually gets briefed to the president can be very, very different depending on who and how it's delivered. And so, you know, with all that, the chaos that we've seen from this administration, obviously, you hear these things, a lot of things start to make a lot of sense, but also it's even more reason to be nervous about what it might do next. But that, my friends, that happy note. That is where your Wednesday, Philip DeFranco show is going to end today. But it's also not where it has to end. And in fact, I think this other thing could bring you out of the depression hole that the Philip DeFranco show probably puts you in every day. I'm so sorry, but this is supposed to be your daily dose of poison.
