Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome back to the Philip D'America show. My name is Philip D'America and fellow patriots, I am sick to my stomach today because it finally happened is what I've been saying for years. Mitch McConnell, Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell is a secret anti-Trump or lizard person, deep state operative. And no one believed me for years because Mitch McConnell is a secret anti-Trump or lizard person deep state operative. And no one believed me for years because Mitch McConnell was good and sneaky, tricking everybody by doing the president's bidding for four years. But today he finally revealed himself to be what he is. So today I want to congratulate President-Elect Joe Biden. President-Elect
Starting point is 00:00:40 Joe Biden. President-Elect Joe Biden. It makes me sick! What, man, you expect me to believe that Joe Biden is president-elect of the United States because what? Via the popular vote, he got 7 million more votes than Donald Trump, and by a state-by-state basis, he got more electoral votes, and Donald Trump and his people,
Starting point is 00:00:59 just because all their cases in court got thrown out and laughed at because they didn't have evidence of the things that they've been saying publicly and the Supreme Court, which Donald Trump put a third of the justices on, wouldn't even hear the big case and the Electoral College voted yesterday and said that Donald Trump lost the election. All of a sudden that makes me go, yeah, Joe Biden's my president-elect. Give me a break. As Democracy Gobbbler 69 said on parlor, this is a sham. Joe Biden is not my president because I believe in, say it with me, state rights.
Starting point is 00:01:32 And specifically I'm speaking of the state of denial. And that's all I'm gonna do with that. I might void my throat, can't handle that anymore. That's what she said. But yeah, Mitch McConnell and now a few other Republicans have acknowledged Joe Biden as the president-elect. But also I'm not gonna like applaud them for doing the bare minimum.
Starting point is 00:01:49 It's been six weeks. Literally Vladimir Putin acknowledged Joe Biden as president-elect before Mitch McConnell did. Also of note, yesterday we saw Attorney General William Barr announced that he was resigning from his position. And I mean, this was really interesting to see. Barr has been one of Trump's closest loyalists until about two weeks ago
Starting point is 00:02:04 when he said the Department of Justice found no evidence of widespread fraud in the election, something that Donald Trump obviously was not happy about. Also, over the weekend, we saw Trump slamming him for not publicly disclosing information related to an investigation into Hunter Biden, right? All of that essentially led to yesterday when Trump tweeted, "'Just had a very nice meeting
Starting point is 00:02:20 "'with Attorney General Bill Barr at the White House. "'Our relationship has been a very good one. "'He has done an outstanding job." And adding as per letter, "'Bill will be leaving just before Christmas to spend the holidays with his family.'" And as of right now, it appears that Deputy AG Jeff Rosen will replace him for the month left of his term.
Starting point is 00:02:34 And with all of this, we saw Barr releasing a letter, essentially showering the president with praise. You know, Bill Barr's exit appears to answer and add a question. The answer is the question of where is the line for Bill Barr? And it appears that the answer is just short of undermining a democratic US election. But in its place, we get the question of what the hell
Starting point is 00:02:52 are the next five weeks gonna look like with a Bill Barr out of that position? With people like Washington DC Attorney General Carl Racine calling Barr's resignation a five alarm fire. Adding that Barr is quote, "'Getting out of the getaway vehicle because perhaps he does not want to be part of the next series of wrongful events.
Starting point is 00:03:09 I am deeply concerned." But ultimately that is where we are right now. We're gonna have to wait to see what happens next. And of course, I'll pass the question off to you. What are your thoughts about all of this? And also in 2021, should I give Philip D'America his own show? I don't even have to change the name of the show.
Starting point is 00:03:23 Still the PDS, let me know by hitting that like button. And then let's talk about a whole batch of entertainment slash social media news, starting with Lizzo popping up in the news. And I can't help but feel sympathetic towards Lizzo here. Like obviously as far as her music career, she is very successful, but as far as her weight, it feels like she cannot win.
Starting point is 00:03:41 Right, Lizzo to me has always been someone that was like, whatever feels good for you, love yourself, be happy, you are worth it. And if you follow her on social media, sometimes she wears very revealing things. It often gets a lot of love from the body positivity community. She also gets trashed a lot.
Starting point is 00:03:57 I mean, I even remember earlier this year where it was like a meme and a trend to build out Lizzo as like a huge lineman or a power running back in Madden. And so she's constantly bashed about her weight. Some people just making her just that one thing. But over the last 48 hours, we ended up actually seeing the opposite of that.
Starting point is 00:04:14 With Lizzo getting massive backlash on social media for talking about doing a 10 day juice cleanse. Something that she said she did because. In reality, November stressed me the out. I drank a lot. I ate a lot of spicy things and things up my stomach up. She said she did because... my mental stability, my body, my skin, the whites of my eyes. Like I feel and look like a bad. And I think like, that's it. I'm a big girl who did a smoothie detox.
Starting point is 00:04:52 And I wanted to share that with you guys. I got exactly what I wanted out of it. And every big girl should do whatever the they want with their bodies. And a big part of why she said that is she was getting slammed for promoting diet culture. People saying that she was hating on herself and big girls. You know, I look at this story and I can't help but just kind of repeat what I've said for the
Starting point is 00:05:11 past decade. Body positivity needs to be about self-respect, self-love, knowing that you are a human being no matter what and you are worth it. But that shouldn't devolve into we need to promote an unhealthy lifestyle or if you're trying to change something for you that you actually hate yourself and others who look like you. I'm a big guy, as I talked about in one of my last DeFranco Does videos, I'm actually 256 pounds right now.
Starting point is 00:05:33 And with this weight gain came higher blood pressure. I'm on medication to manage that now. And as a bigger person currently, I am still just as deserving of love. I still have all the value in the world, but for my own personal reasons, especially because as a man, I do not get criticized about my weight
Starting point is 00:05:48 as much as women do. Every day, I'm trying to break more and more bad habits by introducing better ones, or at least things temporarily disrupt or shake things up. And I imagine I'm actually doing that for similar reasons to Lizzo. I don't hate myself, I love myself, and I'm trying to treat myself like someone I love.
Starting point is 00:06:03 With the goal being, if I can get to this place as far as my health, where I'm happier, day to day I should be happier. And hopefully it also allows me to live longer and thus love myself longer. Some people out here just acting like this is the betrayal of the highest degree. I don't know, it's just crazy to me.
Starting point is 00:06:17 And then we had Dave Chappelle back in the news. You might remember a few weeks ago, we saw him asking people to boycott him or more specifically boycott Chappelle's show. And that because he's not getting paid for it. And so we actually saw Netflix, which has other deals with Dave dropping the show. Many people then wondering what happens from here
Starting point is 00:06:34 because Viacom didn't just give this to Netflix. And the update we got today is that HBO and HBO Max will be removing Chappelle's show at the end of the year. So if you ever wondered how influential and powerful Dave Chappelle is, I think we all have the answer here. Then we had the smartest of the dumb douchebags back in the news, Jake Paul.
Starting point is 00:06:53 This because he made a video calling out Conor McGregor, saying that his team sent him a $50 million offer to fight. Also taking a shot at Conor McGregor's wife, I guess, in hopes that that'll rile him up to punch him for money. Or maybe you're jacking off because you're sick of your wife. I mean, she's a four-counter. You could do a lot better, but happy Monday.
Starting point is 00:07:10 Now, as far as would a fight like this actually happen, especially in the shadow of Mayweather versus Logan Paul, I don't think that it is in Conor McGregor's best interest. You also have seen Dana White saying there is zero chance, with Dana White offering what I think would be a much more interesting proposal. Telling TMZ Sports, I'm thinking of letting Amanda Nunes knock his ass out.
Starting point is 00:07:31 Which, Dana, oh my God, yes please. Amanda Nunes, Jake Paul, in the octagon, let's go. And in fact, Nunes tweeted, I'm in. I will pre-order that pay-per-view today. And then we need to talk about this absolutely massive Russian hack. So if you didn't see, yesterday Trump administration officials told reporters
Starting point is 00:07:49 that the State Department, the Department of Homeland Security, and parts of the Pentagon had been victims of a suspected Russian hack. Right, and the fact that these top national security agencies were hacked is incredibly alarming and also arguably embarrassing. And these top agencies were far from the only ones
Starting point is 00:08:02 that were hacked. In fact, the hacks were first confirmed the day before when officials of the Department of Treasury and Commerce reported that key networks had been breached. Adding that the attackers had free reign of their email systems, though, notably the extent of the hacks and the damage they've done so far is not yet known. But officials have said that the number of federal agencies that were hit is expected to grow, though, as of recording, the only other one that was reportedly hit and that we haven't already mentioned is the National Institutes of Health. Now, as far as when this happened, according to reports, the only other one that was reportedly hit and that we haven't already mentioned is the National Institutes of Health. Now, as far as when this happened, according to reports,
Starting point is 00:08:28 the systems were infiltrated months ago, but no one, even in the top US intelligence agencies, detected these hacks. Instead, they were actually informed by a third-party cybersecurity company that had its own systems breach. And that company, which is called FireEye, is known for being contracted by intelligence agencies
Starting point is 00:08:42 and other federal departments to find and patch security holes in networks that could be vulnerable to hackers. And they reported last week that hackers from a then unidentified nation state had entered their systems and stolen those key anti-hacking tools. Soon finding out though that the hack
Starting point is 00:08:54 expanded way beyond their own systems. Releasing a statement Sunday that described a massive global campaign of victims that included government, consulting, technology, telecom, and extractive entities in North America, consulting, technology, telecom, and extractive entities in North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Describing this hack as incredibly sophisticated and quote, "'Some of the best operational security
Starting point is 00:09:12 "'they have ever seen in a cyber attack.'" And also noting that it used at least one piece of malware that has never been previously detected. And as far as how this hack happened, FireEye said that all the organizations that were hit had been hacked through what is known as a supply chain attack. Essentially, where attackers infiltrate a target organization
Starting point is 00:09:27 by hacking outside companies that supply products to the intended target organization that are introduced into computer networks. And in this case, FireEye found that the supply chain attack started with an Austin based company called SolarWinds that makes and supplies a widely used network management software called Orion. And claiming that the attackers hacked SolarWinds
Starting point is 00:09:43 and manipulated the software updates that the company sends out to their clients whenever there is an upgrade called Orion. And claiming that the attackers hacked SolarWinds and manipulated the software updates that the company sends out to their clients whenever there is an upgrade to Orion. Right, so think of it like when your phone or the apps need an update. And so when SolarWinds sent out those infected updates to their clients, the hackers were then able to gain access to those organizations when they downloaded the update. And incredibly significant here,
Starting point is 00:09:59 FireEye said those software updates were delivered to customers between March and May, meaning that these hackers essentially had free reign over these systems undetected for the better part of a year. And as far as how many places were impacted, right now it is not totally clear. But according to reports, SolarWinds has over 300,000 clients, including 33,000 that use Orion.
Starting point is 00:10:17 And at a federal securities filing on Monday, the company said that fewer than 18,000 of its customers may have installed the corrupted software, though it did not know how many systems were actually hacked. And also notably here, the experts say that the number is actually much, much lower. This including Charles Carmackle,
Starting point is 00:10:31 a senior vice president at FireEye who told reporters, "'We think the number who were actually compromised were in the dozens, but they were all the highest value targets.'" Right, but that is still massively important because more important than how many people were affected, it's who. And in addition to the other government agencies
Starting point is 00:10:46 that have said that they were impacted, SolarWinds also has contracts with all five branches of the military, the executive offices of the president, the CDC, and the National Security Agency, which is of course the world's top electronic spy agency. But also, SolarWinds has other clients around the world and its services are used by almost all Fortune 500 companies.
Starting point is 00:11:03 Right, and that's in addition to other really high security places like the Los Alamos National Laboratory where nuclear weapons are designed and some major defense contractors such as Boeing. But of course, notably, it is unclear right now how many of those organizations were hit in this attack or how many of these high profile places use Orion.
Starting point is 00:11:19 Right, as reports have noted, the presence of the software is not by itself evidence that each network was compromised and information was stolen. But investigators have also said that the hackers use multiple entry points in addition to the compromised Orion software update, and what we're seeing now, it might just be the beginning of what they find. Now as for the hackers themselves, while neither SolarWinds nor FireEye specifically named the Russians, numerous other officials close to the matter have said that their investigation is pointed to a top Russian foreign intelligence agency known as the SVR,
Starting point is 00:11:46 though it is often called APT29 or Cozy Bear. And a point of significance here, while this agency is known as a traditional collector of intelligence specializing in digital spying, it is not known for the kinds of disinformation campaigns that we saw the Russians running in the 2016 election. So because of that, you have a lot of experts saying this was not a campaign intended to undermine the election like last time,
Starting point is 00:12:06 but rather to spy on the highest levels of the government. With people like Thomas Ridd, a political science professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies who specializes in cybersecurity issues explaining, this is classic espionage. It's done in a highly sophisticated way, but this is a stealthy operation.
Starting point is 00:12:21 Going on to say that at least as of right now, this appears to be classic digital spying of the sort that major nations, including the United States, engage in every day to gain geopolitical edges of various sorts. Though with all of this, the Russians have denied any involvement.
Starting point is 00:12:34 Russian embassy in Washington calling the reports baseless, saying that the attacks in the information space contradict their foreign policy and national interests, and adding that Russia does not conduct offensive operations in the cyber domain, which yeah, let's just take their word for it. Russia's pretty chill and honest when it comes to the states. And that, you beautiful bastards,
Starting point is 00:12:52 is where I'm gonna end today's show. As always, thanks for being a part of my daily dives in the news. Also, if you're new here, join the family, hit that subscribe button.
