Oh, I'm so excited I finally get to say this.
The April Shop DeFranco.com drop is finally live.
And I know that, you know,
there's marketing talk and whatever.
Get in on this while you can.
It's a limited seven day drop,
but certain sizes are already selling out,
which makes sense because this is essentially
the most requested drop.
For the emotionally exhausted line,
I got these beautiful mint and peach pastel hoodies.
This amazing and comfy sage crop top.
The everyday shorts, the everyday sweats.
Even throwing in a mint dad hat for good measure,
which if you buy legally speaking, Google it,
if you're wearing it, people have to call you daddy.
I don't make the rules.
Also, I will never doubt my wife again.
The crop top is the best seller of this drop so far.
Then we got the don't be stupid, stupid vintage cheese,
which are, oh my God, so comfortable.
Along with the equally fantastic shorts, sweats,
and water bottle.
Don't be stupid hydrate.
And then last, but definitely not least,
the fantastic One Day Will All Be Skeletons
floral hoodie and tee.
So yeah, grab what you want while you can.
And also kind of just on a personal note,
thank y'all so damn much.
Even though every drop gets bigger and bigger
and more successful, still the night before the release,
I'm like, what if I've just been pranked
by all these people for the past 12 to 15 years
and no one's gonna support the drop?
And then you'll actually broke the website
for a little bit when it launched.
But with that said, welcome back
to the Philip DeFranco Show.
It is Monday, April 26th, 2021.
Hit that like button, definitely subscribe
because a brand new subscriber at random will be getting $5,000
at the end of the month of April.
Just my little way of giving back
to the people that have given me so much,
but let's just jump into it.
And first up today in big entertainment
slash entertainer slash business news,
I mean, this is kind of several stories
that are all interconnected.
Okay, so first up, over the weekend, you had UFC 261,
which was standout for a number of reasons, right?
One, we actually got to see mixed martial arts
in front of a crowd, which just has a very special energy.
Two, yeah, Joe, I no longer shoot my podcast
inside of an alien spaceship, Rogan, going viral,
mainly because his reactions were so animated,
though honestly justified.
If I saw Weidman's leg turn into dust in front of me,
I probably would have reacted the same way.
If you've seen that video, you know what I'm talking about.
Three, we learned that if Capitol police are worried
about another insurrection,
they should just go and hire Kamaru Usman.
Cause this man has recently made a career
out of knocking out Trump supporters,
which actually kind of takes us to four.
You had Jake Paul making news.
This is because Jake went to UFC 261
a week after he knocked out Ben Askren.
The crowd there greeting him.
.
You also have the likes of Conor McGregor
getting into the mix here saying UFC high-level fighting
is greater than blogger jackass boxing.
He also got into a verbal confrontation with Daniel Cormier
before they ended up having to be separated.
We also saw what seems to be this kind of continuing
war of words between UFC president Dana White and Jake Paul.
Dana when asked if he would ever do business with Jake,
he responded.
Listen, do you know what would happen to this guy?
He ain't fighting in the UFC.
He's getting handpicked opponents
and God knows what else is going on
with that whole thing.
It's all, there is a market for that.
That's not what I do.
With White also slamming Triller
and these numbers that Jake's been talking about
as far as pay-per-view sales.
The numbers that you're hearing that they did
are full of. They're full of, okay? about as far as pay-per-view sales. Jake, hitting back though, seemingly making it mostly about
money, saying in my third fight I made more in total pay than any fighter in UFC history. Maybe
it's time to pay your fighters their fair share. With him also sharing a clip of Joe Rogan, who of
course is a UFC commentator, praising both Jake Paul and his brother Logan. Paul brothers, Logan and Jake, they're making some big money moves. They're
making a lot of money. And they got everybody talking about him, including us. You can hate
on him all you want, but you better recognize that guy can f*** people up for real. And he's
doing it under intense pressure. But connected though, different news. You had Jake Paul in the
news going into the weekend. Because while, you know, one of the last times we talked about Jake Paul is because there was
a sexual assault allegation against him.
He responded back saying he was getting his lawyers involved.
But in addition to that, there's also this new wave
coming from a New York Times report late last week.
And in that piece, you had another girl accusing Jake Paul
of sexual misconduct, saying that he groped her
and called her things like jailbait.
The piece also had interviews with former people
from the Team 10 house who just painted this image
that he created this very toxic culture,
saying that in addition to all the other stuff
that he pushed the content too far,
he pushed people too far.
But that is where a lot of these stories end for now,
and in particular that last one.
Because really, unless something legal happens to Jake Paul,
I mean, this isn't really gonna affect him.
And I think it's part of the reason why these allegations
against Jake Paul, I think,
would hit many other creators harder.
Not so much with Jake Paul,
because a lot of people just think that he is a scumbag.
It is not shocking news.
I don't know what truly happened
with this growing number of situations,
the accusations, the denials.
One of the common things I've seen
is kind of the lack of surprise
that the accusations are being made against him.
And seemingly even before these accusations,
this is kind of Jake Paul's marketing
and kind of branding at this point.
I know people dislike me.
I know people want to watch me get knocked out.
They're gonna buy something
and that's how I'm gonna make money.
Yeah, for now, I'm pretty much all fronts.
We're gonna have to wait to see what happens next.
Then let's talk about this absolutely massive Josh news.
If your name is not Josh, please skip ahead.
Great, now that everyone that's not named Josh is not here.
I mean, Josh's, let's be honest,
this is the biggest Josh news we've had in years.
So if you don't know, which would be shocking
because you're all on the group text,
last year, a 22 year old Arizona college student
by the name of Josh Swain was experiencing pandemic boredom.
And so he's thinking to himself,
why can I never get social media accounts with my name?
Like they're always taken.
So like a lot of us in the last year, he decides,
I got the time, I'm gonna find every person
named Josh Swain on Facebook,
and he adds them all to a group message,
with him sending a date, time, and coordinates
for a future battle, writing,
whoever wins gets to keep the name,
everyone else has to change their name,
you have one year to prepare, good luck.
So he tweets the message out, it goes viral,
someone even creates a website to count down to the fight.
The event creator, Josh, even setting up a fundraising page
that was jokingly titled support legal fees
to help Josh Swains change their names.
But also explaining that was just a joke
and the money was actually gonna go to Children's Hospital
and Medical Center Foundation,
which operates facilities near the designated battleground
in Lincoln, Nebraska.
And well, the actual fight date came around this weekend
and more than a thousand people showed up.
950 spectators and 50 people named Josh.
Notably of those other 50 Joshes that showed up,
only one was the Swain variant
because I guess Swains are cowards.
So we ended up seeing two battles play out.
One, you had the two Josh Swains
engage in the respected battle of rock, paper, scissors.
The winner there being Josh Swain who created the event.
And following that, all of the Joshes engaged
in the ritual battle of pool noodles
with a fight kind of being just fantastic to watch.
And oh my God, the underdog winner showed up,
four-year-old little Josh, AKA Josh Vinson Jr.
And if that somehow did not warm your stupid cold heart,
in talking to reporters, his father, Josh Sr.,
even shared that the boy had actually suffered
a series of seizures when he was around two years old.
He was actually treated at one of the children's hospitals
at the event was raising money for.
Which on that note, as of today,
more than 260 people have donated
a little more than $12,000 to the foundation.
With attendees also bringing more than 100 pounds of food
that was donated to the Food Bank of Lincoln.
So yeah, you know, sometimes it happens.
One in nine shows we get some nice news.
And hey, now that you're feeling happy
and maybe more open and emotionally vulnerable,
I'd like to share the sponsor of today's show, manscaped.com.

Then in news that resulted in my accountant
sending me a frowny face emoji this morning,
Brian Deese, director of the National Economic Council
formally announced this morning,
yes, President Biden and his administration
are aiming to double the capital gains tax, right?
And this is expected to be an effort
to fund his $1.8 trillion American families plan,
which will likely include provisions for childcare,
universal pre-kindergarten, paid family leave,
and free community college.
And as far as what exactly that would look like,
according to Axios, Biden wants a 39.6 top rate
on long-term capital gains, up from the current 20% rate
for those earning at least $1 million
of annual investment income.
Also noting that an ACA-related investment tax
would bring the federal toll to 43.4% for top earners.
While this is absolutely massive news,
it's very likely not going to impact you directly.
At least noting that this change would only apply
to three tenths of a percent of taxpayers,
which is not even the top 1%.
Though that is still around 500,000 households
in the country.
And on top of that, this proposal would be unlikely
to pass through Congress as is.
Reportedly, the Democratic sweet spot for this right now
is actually closer to 30%,
though that is still a pretty big jump.
It's just smaller than Biden's current goal.
And so that is something that Joe Biden
is actively trying to do,
but something that Joe Biden is not trying to do,
even though we've seen the bastions of truth
like Lauren Boebert tweeting about it,
no, Joe Biden's climate plan does not include
cutting 90% of red meat from our diets by 2030.
That, shockingly, despite so many grifters tweeting about it
and promoting it, is not true.
With Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack saying,
"'There's no desire, no effort, no press release,
"'no policy paper, none of that,'
that would support the notion
that the Biden administration is going to suggest
that people eat less meat,
or that the USDA has some program designed
to reduce meat consumption.
It's simply not the case.
With all of this, or at least a lot of this,
seeming to stem from the Daily Mail,
oh, what?
Not the Daily Mail, they're so trusted.
With them putting out an article speculating
that Biden's plan could do this, but from what?
Yes, it is widely believed that if a lot of us
stopped eating meat and we had plant-based alternatives,
that that would actually help with the environment.
Or the Daily Mail citing a report that said,
"'If half of all animal-based foods were replaced
with plant-based alternatives
and beef consumption fell by 90%,
dietary emissions would drop by 51%."
Though one, the report notes that it is reliant
on a number of simplifying assumptions.
And two, despite the Boebert's and grifters of the world
in this Fox news screenshot,
this does not appear to be in any way a Biden proposal
or policy suggestion.
I mean, granted it not being true
isn't gonna stop people like using it as a rallying cry
or a fundraising tool, but the truth is the truth.
I don't know, it's just all depressingly stupid
at this point.
Then in absolutely massive US political news,
we had the Supreme Court this morning announcing
that it's going to hear its first major gun control case
in over a decade.
But this is big news.
The Supreme Court has turned down
countless Second Amendment appeals
since it ruled back in 2008
that the right applied to individuals
who keep guns at home for self-defense.
And now, with its new conservative majority
more open to hearing gun control cases,
SCOTUS will now decide if that protection holds true
for carrying guns outside of the home.
As of the case in question centers around
a century old New York law that requires people to show
that they have a special need for self-defense
in order to get a license for carrying guns
outside of their home.
You had two men who were denied permits
in the National Rifle Association's
New York affiliate suit,
saying the law makes it virtually impossible
for the ordinary law abiding citizen to obtain a license.
And in their SCOTUS appeal,
the plaintiffs argued that the state law was unconstitutional under the 2008 ruling in writing,
like the threats that might precipitate
a need to act in self-defense,
that individual and fundamental right
necessarily extends beyond the four walls of one's home.
And notably here, not only has the Supreme Court
turned down gun control cases,
they have turned down New York specific gun control cases.
And in a brief urging them to do the same again,
New York's attorney general argued
that the New York law was consistent with the 2008 ruling,
and noting that in a 2010 decision clarifying the scope
of the initial ruling, the justices specifically said
their opinion was not meant to strike down
longstanding prohibitions on gun use.
And that is really significant here because whatever SCOTUS
ends up deciding, it will not just apply to New York.
But according to gun rights groups,
there are similar laws in California, Delaware, Hawaii,
Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Rhode Island.
And so with this Supreme Court
having a strong conservative majority,
this decision could lead to a loosening
of gun laws nationwide.
But as far as what will happen,
we won't have the answer for a little bit.
The court is currently not set to hear this case
until their next term this October,
with the Muslim not expected to issue a decision on it
until next summer.
Then, I mean, we have a whole slew of COVID-19 news.
I don't even know where to start.
We're seeing things like in Spain,
you had police arresting a 40 year old man on Saturday
and charging him with intentionally causing injury
after he allegedly infected 22 people with coronavirus.
Following this very long investigation,
you had authorities saying that the man went to work
despite having symptoms of COVID-19,
with him also reportedly refusing to go home
when colleagues expressed concerns about his symptoms.
After work, he did, yes, get tested,
but then he immediately went to the gym
and then back to work the next day,
where colleagues again told him to go home,
but he stayed even though he had a temperature
of 104 degrees.
During the day, authorities said that he walked around
the business with lower his mask and cough saying,
"'I'm going to infect you all with the coronavirus.'"
The next day, he learned he actually was positive
and because of him, three people at his gym
and five of his coworkers also tested positive.
With them then going on to infect several relatives,
including three infants.
Yeah, he was arrested and released the same day.
He's awaiting trial and we'll have to wait
to see what happens there.
Then, because what would a Philip DeFranco show be
without a Florida man story,
and even better, a Florida family story?
And this today because the Justice Department has announced that they have indicted a Florida man story, and even better, a Florida family story. And this today because the Justice Department has announced
that they have indicted a Florida family
for selling bleach as a quote,
"'Miracle cure for COVID-19 and other illnesses.'"
With prosecutors saying that 62-year-old Mark Grennan
peddled these deadly chemicals with his three sons,
34-year-old Jonathan, 26-year-old Jordan,
and 32-year-old Joseph.
Reportedly, they called this their miracle mineral solution,
saying that it could not only cure,
but also prevent COVID-19.
And reportedly for years,
they've even said that this cures cancer, Alzheimer's,
diabetes, autism, HIV, and tons of other medical conditions.
And apparently a lot of people bought into this
and actually bought the product.
According to the indictment,
they earned more than $1 million in sales.
But to make matters worse,
their product is actually a chemical solution containing sodium chloride and water,
which after ingestion becomes chlorine dioxide.
Strong bleach used in industrial water treatments
and in bleaching textiles, pulp, or paper.
The FDA warning last year that their products
could cause dangerous side effects,
including severe vomiting, diarrhea,
and life-threatening low blood pressure.
In the past, the FDA received reports
of people requiring hospitalizations,
developing life-threatening conditions,
and even dying after drinking MMS.
But despite that warning, on top of court orders
requiring them to stop distribution
under a separate civil case,
the men reportedly continued to sell it
under the guise of a religious entity
called the Genesis II Church of Health and Healing.
And according to the charging documents,
Mark Grennan, who was the group's co-founder,
has repeatedly acknowledged that Genesis
has nothing to do with religion.
With him having even said that he founded it
to legalize the use of MMS and avoid going to jail.
So they essentially use this site
to have people make donations
that were just sales of the product,
which they marketed by citing Bible verses
and using other religious messages.
Also, after a raid, police learned
that the family was actually manufacturing the product
in a shed in the backyard of Jonathan Grennan's Florida home
where police seized dozens of blue chemical drums
with nearly 10,000 pounds of sodium fluoride powder
that could produce thousands of bottles of the solution.
Police also seizing loaded firearms
and prosecutors actually said the Grennan's threatened
a federal judge presiding over the civil case against them.
Saying that if the government stopped their distribution,
they would quote, pick up guns and instigate a Waco.
Federal prosecutors also believe that Mark
and Joseph Grennan
operate what they call a health restoration center
in Santa Marta, Colombia,
where they say they charge consumers about $5,000 a month
to stay at the compound and quote,
"'dose themselves with miracle mineral solution.'"
And that is ultimately where we are with this story.
You have each family member charged with one count
of conspiracy to commit fraud
and two counts of criminal contempt.
And with all of this, the Grennan's face up to life
imprisonment if found guilty.
Then in, I don't know what it's going to do to this video,
but we should definitely talk about it news.
Let's talk about India and social media.
It's the Indian government yesterday said that it ordered
Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to block about 100 social
media posts that were critical of its handling of the massive
COVID-19 surges that are happening in their country.
As we talked about on this show last week,
the situation in India is absolutely dire.
I mean, just today alone,
the country reported more than 350,000 new infections
and 2,800 deaths, breaking the world record
in daily infection rates for the fifth day in a row.
And understand, even though experts warn
that these numbers are almost definitely undercounted,
India still, with the numbers we have,
makes up nearly half of all new cases in the entire world.
The situation has also put a massive strain
on the country's hospital system with many running low
on beds, oxygen and supplies.
In fact, it has gotten so bad
that the Biden administration yesterday partially lifted
its ban on exporting raw materials for vaccines
to send India therapeutics as well as other materials
like rapid diagnostic testing kits, ventilators and PPE.
And while the spikes there are partly due to a spread of a new variant,
tons and tons of people have also criticized the response
from Prime Minister Modi.
This including some whose posts the government
ordered social media platforms to remove.
So with this, according to reports,
all three platforms are currently enforcing
the legally binding order,
though notably Facebook has refused
to comment on the situation.
Twitter, for their part, confirmed
that they had removed some of the tweets,
but said that they are just blocked in India
and will still be visible in other parts of the world.
And as far as the reasoning,
what Indian officials were saying,
in a statement to the media,
they said these posts were creating panic
by using unrelated old and out of context images or visuals,
communally sensitive posts
and misinformation about COVID-19 protocols.
But many, many people have accused
the government of censorship,
noting that a lot of the content was just critical of Modi,
including some posts shared by opposition leaders.
In fact, according to Lumen database,
which tracks takedown requests,
at least 52 tweets from prominent figures,
including politicians and opposition parties,
journalists, and even filmmakers have been removed.
And to be fair, while some of the posts
did have potentially misleading information,
others just documented the scale
in the surge of COVID-19 cases
and expressed anger at India's leaders.
And so understandably, what we're seeing right now,
it's raising concerns about the relationship
between social media companies and leaders in countries
that compose major client bases.
I mean, how many times have we seen companies
that stand for things and then they just bend the knee
for some ridiculous oppressive thing in a country?
And with India, there is a big reason to bend the knee.
India is a key growth market for tech companies.
I mean, Facebook has more users in India
than anywhere else in the world.
And the country is also Twitter's fastest growing market.
But that growth is also happening at a time
when experts say that Modi's government
has been increasingly censoring dissent,
which creates a sticky situation for these companies.
And so as the New York Times explains,
these companies have this moral business dilemma.
Explaining in India, the companies face a stark choice,
follow laws and risk suppressing political debate,
or ignore them and face harsh punishments,
including prison time for local employees
and a potentially huge growth market.
And ultimately with this story,
or honestly anything that stood out to you today,
I'd love to know your thoughts
in those comments down below,
because this is the end of today's show.
As always, thank you for watching this video,
like and subscribe and all the good stuff.
Also remember to snag what you can,
while you can over at shopdefranco.com.
But with that said, of course, as always,
my name's Philip DeFranco.
You've just been filled in.
I love yo faces and I'll see you tomorrow.
