Sup you beautiful bastards, hope you're having a fantastic Thursday. Welcome back to the Philip DeFranco Show and let's just jump into it. And the first thing we're going to talk about today is we had Kristen Bell in the news for a situation I don't think should be news, but because of some people it is. There are reports that came out, like this one from BuzzFeed Reading. Kristen Bell revealed she smokes weed around Dax Shepard even though he's sober. If you don't know, they're a couple, they have kids together. Something I wasn't aware of before this story is Dax Shepard is 14 years sober. And when speaking on the Marc Maron podcast,

Kristen Bell said, "'I smoke around my husband. "'It doesn't seem to bother him,' we'd rule, "'saying I can't do it around my kids, "'which is a phenomenal amount of hours each week, "'but then adding, once a week, if I'm just exhausted "'and we're about to sit down and watch 60 Minutes, why not?' "'And on Dax Shepard's relationship with drugs, she said,

"'he lost his privilege with them "'because he can't handle it. "'His brain doesn't have the chemistry to handle it.'" And saying that he doesn't mind the chemistry to handle it and saying that He doesn't mind in fact Dax saying that she should host an ecstasy party at their home where he could act as the sober guide Also saying Dax told her she shouldn't leave this earth without having tried mushrooms or ecstasy and following this because of course everyone has an opinion About everything there were people that were not really happy about this some people saying that she was horrible for doing this in front of him People saying don't you realize you're making his struggle even harder. Some internet users specifically calling it

slimy and selfish. Some doing what a good portion of the internet always loves to do and that is mommy shame. Some writing, hope her children are being cared for while she's busy doing drugs. And it's actually that note that I'll start on to anyone out there that would mommy shame Kristen Bell or any other mother because they smoke weed.

And as was explained in the podcast that people were apparently up in arms about, she doesn't do it around her kids. One, go fuck yourself, and two, double go fuck yourself if you're also someone that's like, I don't drink, but I have a little glass of wine at night. These children have two parents, and I don't know their specific living situation,

but maybe there's family, there's a nanny, there's a whatever. And it appears that during those moments where she engages in the devil's lettuce, but it appears that there is a 100% sober parent, which, by the the way just because you smoke marijuana or vape doesn't mean that person's doing it to a mind-numbing state where they couldn't act if something needed them. Like if you had that one glass of wine or one beer. And two, to the argument that she is a bad partner because she engages in these things

that her husband can't and he struggled with. No, we're all big boys and big girls and we were responsible for our own actions and if we can't, we can't deal with something even being remotely close to us, it would just be a matter of time before that person cracks, especially when you're dealing with someone that is famous and has money and has access. And if he's not saying, you know, this makes it harder for me,

then why are you getting angry on his behalf? That's a point of debate and conversation that's been hit on many times. I think it's been best said recently by Daniel Sloss in his comedy special. You know, who the fuck elected you to be Batman? Why are you so angry on Dax Shepard's behalf? And in fact, Shepard tweeted out saying,

"'That would be like a diabetic expecting their partner "'to never eat dessert. "'Get real.'" And here's the thing, I will acknowledge that not all people are the same. Everyone is built different. But I'm also gonna go out on a limb here and say the person that you're married to

probably has a better idea of who you are than random people on the internet And I personally believe a lot of it is faux concern and outrage and it's really just you trying to tear someone else down But I understand that is also my personal takeaway based off my personal life experiences, and I pass the question off to you What are your thoughts here? Let's talk about this horrifying situation in Australia that has now become this more international situation. Australia is in the middle of a strawberry crisis. Earlier this month, we saw a man in Australia posting a warning on Facebook after his friend swallowed part of a needle hidden inside of a strawberry. And reportedly, his friend had to visit the ER for severe abdominal pain.

And since then, sewing needles and pins have been found in strawberries all across the country. And according to the authorities, there have been at least 100 reports of needles in fruit, though police believe some of these reports may be false alarm. Though we have seen reports of two people that did go to the hospital after eating one of the needles. Now while the police believe the original acts were confined to three brands of strawberries sold in Queensland, there have also been hoaxes or copycat attacks, including one carried out

by a child who admitted to the prank. New South Wales Police Acting Assistant Commissioner Stuart Smith saying that the child will be dealt with under the youth cautioning system. New South Wales criminal responsibility begins at the age of 10, but youth offenders can be granted a formal caution by police. Also, in addition to the strawberries, Australian police have confirmed that a mango is sold with a small needle in it, prompting new fears about the country's fruit.

And in addition to that, there have also been reports of isolated cases of needles in an apple and a banana. And while we have those reports and individual people are being affected, this has become a much larger issue. The needle reports have steered Australians off of buying strawberries. It's thrown Australia's 160 million dollar strawberry industry into chaos. We've already seen strawberry prices dropping in the country with prices in Western Australia now below the cost of production according to local media. We've also seen supermarkets across Australia removing large numbers of strawberries from their shelves in response to the scare. The effect has also been felt internationally because Australia exports strawberries places like Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the UAE. We've seen a big retailer in New Zealand already withdrawing Australian strawberries from sale.

There's also the fear that other international retailers will follow suit. We've also seen reports that some farmers have even been forced to dump fruit as demand plummets. Additionally, the Australian Department of Agriculture announcing that starting yesterday, all international exports of fresh strawberries will be scanned by metal detectors or x-ray machines as part of a range of measures to restore confidence. They're doing this because visual inspection alone is not an acceptable measure. Additionally, supermarket chain Woolworths, where several needles have been reported, announced that they were temporarily removing needles from sales. The company is saying, We've also seen the Queensland government announcing a $1 million package to help farmers deal

with this contamination crisis. We've also seen politicians trying to promote strawberries with the hashtag Smashastrawb campaign, showcasing Australian politicians from all sides joining in, posting images of themselves eating strawberries. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison also taking the issue very seriously. That's why on Wednesday he announced plans

to enact harsher punishments for the crime. Any idiot who thinks they can go out into a shopping centre and start sticking pins in fruit and thinks this is some sort of lark or put something on Facebook which is a hoax, that sort of behaviour is reckless and under the provision that we'll be seeking to introduce swiftly, that type of behaviour would carry a penalty of up to 10 years in prison. It's not a joke. It's not funny. You're putting the livelihoods of hardworking Australians at risk. And you're scaring children. And you're a coward and you're a grub.

And he has followed through on those remarks. Today we saw Australia's parliament passing legislation to increase the maximum prison term to 15 years for anyone convicted of tampering with food. And in addition to that, it also criminalized hoax claims, making those punishable by up to 10 years in prison. And actually on that note, the governments of Western Australia, New South Wales, and Queensland

are all offering a reward of 100,000 Australian dollars for information that leads to the prosecution of anyone found responsible for contaminating the fruit. And so I don't know if this is the only time that this has ever been said but Australia is not fucking around when it comes to these strawberries. I think rightfully so. Anyone that would fuel the fear here or actually do this, you're dealing with a special kind of disgusting coward. Links, as always, are in the description down below. And then let's talk about this incredibly troubling story coming out of Southern California. And this story involves Grant William Robichaux, who is a 38-year-old surgeon who lives in Newport Beach, California, and his 31 year old girlfriend, Seressa Laura Riley. And a few things to know going into this, you have Robichaux, who is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who treats sponsored athletes.

Riley, she was previously a substitute teacher in Fullerton, California. From their online profile, they look like they have a perfect life. You have Riley often uploading YouTube videos of the two enjoying expensive looking vacations in places like Mexico, partying at music festivals and events, things like Burning Man, the Dirty Bird Campout, Splash House Festival. Robichaux even has a background in reality TV, appearing in the past on a Bravo TV show by the name of Online Dating Rituals of the American Male. That was back in 2014 and it documented his life

as he looked for a girlfriend, which featured clips like this one. Crossing paths with that perfect someone isn't an easy thing to do and it's definitely much harder than I thought it would be. Back in 2013, he was also named Orange County's most eligible bachelor by Orange Coast magazine. But, so the reason we're talking about them today is it turns out that entire persona of them as a friendly, nice couple, is allegedly a sick illusion.

Last week, Robichaux and Riley were charged with some horrific crimes. According to the Orange County District Attorney's Office, the couple drugged and sexually assaulted two women in 2016. According to prosecutors, in April of 2016, Robichaux and Riley met a 32-year-old unidentified woman at a restaurant in Newport Beach. They then invited the woman to a nearby party and afterwards escorted her back to Robichaux's apartment after she had become intoxicated.

And police say they gave her multiple drugs and they then raped her and engaged in oral copulation while she was in an inebriated and drugged out state. The woman then contacted the police department the next day. She underwent an exam where she tested positive for controlled substances Then in October of 2016 the couple allegedly met another woman at a bar in Newport Beach and drank with her until she was no longer Conscious. The couple then reportedly brought her back to Robichaux's apartment again and sexually assaulted her with the intent to rape her However in this instance the woman woke up and screamed for help alerting a neighbor who ended up calling police

The police ended up responding to Robichaux's apartment and investigated the case But nothing really came out of the investigation until January 9th 2018 alerting a neighbor who ended up calling police. The police ended up responding to Robichaux's apartment and investigating the case, but nothing really came out of the investigation until January 9th, 2018, when police found large quantities of illegal drugs, including date rape drugs, MDMA, and cocaine in Robichaux's apartment. And in addition to this, they also found two illegal unregistered assault rifles, four other firearms, and large capacity magazines. And all of that led to this month, where Robichaux was charged with one count of rape by use of drugs, one count of oral copulation by anesthesia or controlled substance, one count of assault with intent to commit sexual offense, four counts of possession of a controlled substance for sale, two counts of possession of an assault weapon. And on top of all that there is a sentencing enhancement tacked on to all of these charges.

And this is for him being armed with a firearm during a health and safety code violation which means that he is facing 40 years in state prison. And as far as the girlfriend, Riley, she was charged with all of the same crimes except the assault weapons charge. But still also receiving a sentencing enhancement because of another firearm charge, meaning that she is facing 30 years and 8 months in prison. And on top of all of this, unfortunately, the story is even worse. During a press conference announcing this arrest this week, Orange County District Attorney Tony Rakalkas said this. In the materials we've seized, there are thousands and thousands of videos and images on Robichaux's phone, many also including Riley,

which we're now meticulously going through. There are several videos where the women in the videos appear to be highly intoxicated beyond the ability to consent or resist, and they're barely responsive to the defendant's sexual advances. And he went on to explain how the couple were able to pull off deceiving

potentially hundreds of victims so easily. Women who have encountered these two might have felt a false sense of security due to the fact that both defendants are clean cut and good looking. We tend to trust doctors who take an oath to do no harm. The second defendant being a female is key. A woman purporting to be his girlfriend clearly played a significant role in disarming the victims and making them feel comfortable and safe. And he also went on to say that the police want more women who might have been victims of the couple to come forward and contact investigators.

We know some victims might blame themselves. They might feel there's no crime to report because they knowingly drank alcohol or consumed illegal substances with the defendants. But you need to hear this. Your conscious decisions to party with these defendants or with anybody using alcohol or other intoxicating substances does not give them a pass to rape, assault, or have sex with you once you're past the point of consent. And reportedly since that press conference, more than half a dozen women have come forward to accuse Robichaux and Riley of sexually assaulting them. Now as far as what's happening to Robichaux and Riley, they reportedly have been released on $100,000 bail.

They are also denying the charges against them. In a statement, their lawyer said that the couple has, quote, "...been aware of these accusations for a number of months, and each of them will formally deny the truth of these allegations at their first opportunity in court. Dr. Robichaux and Ms. Riley believe that such allegations do a disservice to and dangerously undermine the true victims of sexual assault, and they are eager to have the proper spotlight

shed on this case in a public trial, which, as of right now, the arraignment is set for October 25th. While Robichaux does maintain his innocence, we have also seen the California Medical Board opening an investigation of their own into his conduct. But ultimately, that is where we are now. The situation of course is still developing, especially with these accusations from so many of these other women. But for now, things do not look great and it will be very interesting to see what comes out next.

And then, while there will be more to talk about soon, we should talk about the quick updates around the Brett Kavanaugh situation. He of course is President Trump's Supreme Court nominee. He has been accused of sexual assault from back when he was in high school. His accuser was initially anonymous. She then came forward with her name Christine Blasey Ford saying she wanted to share her story if it was just going to be shared in bits and pieces. Kavanaugh denied the allegations. Then there was all this talk of okay well should Ford and Kavanaugh speak in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee? Initially there was no response from Ford. Then on Tuesday Ford said in a letter she would prefer if the FBI investigated and looked into this before she spoke in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Also there was a deadline set by Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley saying that Ford had until 10 a.m. on Friday to decide whether she would speak in front of the committee or not, something that they wanted to happen on Monday.

But today the update is that the Senate Judiciary Committee received an email from Ford's lawyer and they say, as you are aware, she has been receiving death threats, which have been reported to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and she and her family have been forced out of their home. And adding, she wishes to testify, provided that we can agree on terms that are fair and which ensure her safety. But regarding testifying on this upcoming Monday, the lawyer wrote that it is not possible and the committee's insistence that it occur then is arbitrary in any event.

And once again requesting that a full investigation take place before this testimony were to happen. But saying that Ford would be prepared to testify next week. And so at the very least, we have a response that also appears to be a negotiation move as far as the effectiveness and what happens from here. We're gonna have to wait to see. And what I'll say regarding this situation is this has nothing to do with Kavanaugh being confirmed or not,

but it does feel like there needs to be an investigation into these claims given what kind of claims they are. Without a legal authority diving in deeper, what we're kind of left with are a he said, she said with so, there's been so much misinformation online. One of the recent examples was reportedly there was this post on Facebook. You had a woman by the name of Christina King Miranda who attended high school with forward writing. This incident did happen. Many of us heard about it in school and Christine's recollection should be more than enough for us to truly deeply know that the accusation is true." That was then picked up and promoted via Jay Bookman

and it just blew the story up. But then, reportedly on Wednesday, Miranda in an interview said, "'I can't say that it did or didn't happen,' adding, in my Facebook post," which by the way is deleted now, "'I was empowered and I was sure it probably did happen,' adding, "'I had no idea that I would now have to go

to the specifics and defend it before 50 cable channels and have my face spread all over MSNBC news and Twitter. And once again This is just one example of the muddying of waters from one side and we've seen a lot all over the place And this is all happening while of course there are threats being made against Ford and her family She's been doxxed several times. You have all these things outside of the accuser and the accused Changing public perception about a very important thing. I feel like not having the FBI looking into it, it just adds to the chaos and circus around this event.
