Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome back to the Philip DeFranco show you daily dive into the news. We once again have a lot we have to talk about today, starting with this. Jimmy Kimmel just got canceled, Antifa is now a terrorist organization, and anyone not singing Charlie Kirk's praises is not going to have a good time. All of this is connected to Kimmel's show on Monday night, where in his monologue, he said, We hit some new lows over the weekend with the Maga Gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.
Starting point is 00:00:30 In between the finger pointing, there was grieving. On Friday, the White House flew the flags at half staff, which got some criticism. But on a human level, you can see how hard the president is taking this. My condolences on the loss of your friend, Charlie, Kirk. May I ask, sir, personally, how are you holding up over the last day and a half, sir? I think very good. And by the way, right there, you see all the trucks?
Starting point is 00:00:52 They've just started construction of the new ballroom for the White House, which is something they've been trying to get, as you know, for about 150 years, and it's going to be a beauty. Yes, okay. He's at the fourth stage of grief, construction. Right immediately, you had right-wing influencers and activists slamming Kimmel in general, but especially for his words about Maga trying to cast Kirk's killer
Starting point is 00:01:14 as, quote, anything other than one of them in order to score political points. And you had many of them basically accusing Kimmel of just flat-out lying. Right, saying that Kimmel was essentially saying, if the killer was actually Maga. But at the same time, he had people defending Kimmel saying he wasn't saying that the killer was Maga, but rather that Maga was more focused on trying to point blame. And then, of course, in addition to that, you had people had issue with how he was talking about Donald Trump and his reaction to Charlie Kirk's death.
Starting point is 00:01:34 But in any case there, one of the people that did not like Kimmel's comments was right-wing commentator Benny Johnson. And so then with that, to talk about Kimmel, Johnson had on his podcast, none other than Brendan Carr, the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission. Right, and you had Carr, again, the chair of the FCC claiming that Kimmel's remarks were part of a concerted effort to lie to the American people. and the FCC had what he called remedies that it would be looking into. Frankly, when you see stuff like this, I mean, look, we can do this the easy way or the hard way. These companies can find ways to change conduct to take action, frankly, on Kimmel, or, you know, there's going to be additional work for the FCC ahead. And then you had Carr urging local TV stations affiliated with ABC to push back
Starting point is 00:02:14 with a key point being that as FCC chair, Carr has real power over broadcast licenses granted to these TV stations by the federal government. Frankly, I think that it's really sort of past time that a lot of these licensed broadcasters themselves push back on Comcast and Disney and say, listen, we are going to preempt. We are not going to run Kimmel anymore until you straighten this out because we, we licensed broadcaster, are running the possibility of fines or license revocation from the FCC if we continue to run content that ends up being a pattern of news distortion. And then wouldn't you know it shortly after that, Next Star, which is an owner of ABC
Starting point is 00:02:51 affiliate stations around the country. They say they're going to preempt Kimmel's program for, quote, the foreseeable future. And then Sinclair, another owner of many local TV stations, they say they're also going to suspend Kimmel's program. And also, they called on Kimmel to apologize and make what they call it a meaningful personal donation to Kirk's family and his turning point USA. But of course, ABC, they're the one that's going to make the decision here. And we ended up seeing as a short time later, they made the announcement that they'd be pulling Kimmel off the air indefinitely. And while the company, which is owned by Disney and has already paid $15 million to settle a defamation lawsuit with Trump, did not explain their reason
Starting point is 00:03:21 You had Rolling Stone reporting that multiple execs felt that Kimmel had actually not said anything over the line, but the threat of Trump administration retaliation loomed. Also, fun little thing, Next Star, they recently announced that they planned to acquire a rival company in a $6.2 billion deal, which is a deal that will be under scrutiny from the FCC. And of course that, it brings back into mind CBS, who over the summer, the FCC approved a major merger involving CBS's owner Paramount, but only after one, CBS agreed to pay $16 million to settle another lawsuit filed by Trump. And two, they canceled the late show at Stephen Colbert, though, of course, the network claimed that the decision was just financially motivated. Though important to note there, Trump was not a fan of Colbert. There were some concerns there.
Starting point is 00:03:58 And in fact, when Colbert got canceled, Trump celebrated on social media saying, I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. And in fact, after this went down with Kimmel, you had him celebrating again writing. Great news for America, the ratings challenge Jimmy Kimmel show is canceled. That leaves Jimmy and Seth two total losers on fake news NBC. Right, and with this, we've seen many people celebrating along with their president. Are you people saying they were happy that Jimmy Kimmel was being held accountable? Are you saying that freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences? But really quickly, you know, that's the news.
Starting point is 00:04:26 This part's going to be my opinion. It is very hard to look at this situation and see it as anything other than a blatant attack on free speech. But if you look out right now, there are a lot of so-called free speech warriors and anti-cancel culture people that are out rejoicing that the government appears to have pressured a company to punish and shut down a TV host over something he said. And it seems to show that a lot of times for many of those people, it's not actually about having principles and beliefs. around freedom of speech and often other freedoms, but really about wanting power, control, and getting what they think is a warranted revenge. In fact, sometimes you'll see people online saying it's our turn. Right, let me be clear when I'm talking with you here. If a company reaches
Starting point is 00:05:00 the conclusion to get rid of people on their own, cool, that's the free market. But when it's obviously because they don't want to deal with government harassment and threats or they want to get preferential treatment or they need merger approval, that is a very, very different thing. That is a scary, scary thing. They want you scared. They want you to shut up and obey. obey in advance. Please don't. Please do not, right? Use your voice while you can because it's not going to get easier to speak out tomorrow. You will be next. It's just a matter of time. Oh, and finally, let me say any of these I really care about free speech podcast bros and help get Trump elected, if you're silent here, you're full of shit. Whether it be Joe Rogan
Starting point is 00:05:38 or any of these fucking guys, they know who they are. Wrens then news cap back on. In addition to people who were celebrating this move along with President Trump, you had others calling it out. Right, Obama, tweeting after years of complaining about cancel culture, the current administration has taken it to a new and dangerous level by routinely threatening regulatory action against media companies unless they muzzle or fire reporters and commentators it doesn't like. But adding, the media companies need to start standing up rather than capitulating to it. You also had Representative Erick Swalwell tweeting,
Starting point is 00:06:02 get a lawyer, Brendan Carr, and save your documents. In a dem majority, your ass is going to be in a witness chair for a long time. It's all coming out. All of your corrupt deals. And in addition to that, you had people sharing that footage of Fox commentator, Brian Kilmead, calling for mentally ill and homeless. people to be killed. Arguing that Kimmel essentially got threatened out for what he said, but with the Fox host, he wasn't threatened. He was allowed to apologize and just move on.
Starting point is 00:06:24 And that is, you had other saying things like trying to imagine the reaction if the Biden administration had demanded that Foxfire Greg Gutfeld because he wasn't sufficiently sad about the assault on Paul Pelosi. So there, notably, you had comedian Roseanne Barr responding sarcastically saying, yeah, imagine an administration putting pressure on a television channel to fire a comedian they didn't like. Because if you didn't know back in 2018, or show got dropped after there was massive backlash to a racist tweet that she posted about a... senior advisor to former President Obama, with her then being an unverified rumor that Michelle Obama had gotten ABC to make that happen. The one, we don't know if that's true. And two, as others
Starting point is 00:06:54 have pointed out, Obama was not president at the time. Trump was. And in fact, this whole situation has gotten to such a place. You have people finding themselves surprised to be agreeing with Tucker Carlson. You hope that Charlie Kirk's death won't be used by a group we now called bad actors to create a society that was the opposite of the one he worked to build. You hope that. You hope that a year from now, the turmoil we're seeing in the aftermath of his murder won't be leveraged to bring hate speech laws to this country. And trust me, if it is, if that does happen, there is never a more justified moment for
Starting point is 00:07:33 civil disobedience than that ever. Right. Now, with that, I got to point out, Carlson is not talking about Kimmel there, right? He's more responding to Pam Bondi saying that she would prosecute hate speech, which is something that sparked a lot of conservative backlash against her, despite Trump clearly also being on board. Where he even threatened to go after an ABC news reporter who asked him about it? He'd probably go after people like you because you treat me so unfairly.
Starting point is 00:07:54 It's hate. You have a lot of hate in your heart. Maybe they'll come after ABC. Well, ABC paid me $16 million recently for a form of hate speech, right? Your company paid me $16 million for a form of hate speech. So maybe they'll have to go after you. Now with that, you know, Bondi has walked it back, though a lot of other stuff is still moving forward,
Starting point is 00:08:14 including Trump announcing that he is designating Antifa, a sick, dangerous, radical left disaster as a major terrorist organization and addict. I will also be strongly recommending that those funding Antifa be thoroughly investigated in accordance with the highest legal standards and practices. And you have many alarmed and also confused, right? Because Antifa is not a single group. It's short for anti-fascists. And it's more like a movement or maybe an umbrella term for various,
Starting point is 00:08:38 far-left-leaning activist groups. And in fact, this isn't even a new idea. In 2020, when Trump first floated the idea of designated Antifa as a terrorist organization, you had former FBI director Christopher Ray testifying that it's an ideology, not an organization. Ray saying that it didn't have that type of hierarchy structure that would usually allow it to be designated as a terror group by the federal government. And then with that, point number two is that there's no legal mechanism for labeling purely domestic organizations as terrorist groups anyways.
Starting point is 00:09:01 Instead, the law allows the government to make a list of foreign terrorist organizations to which it's illegal to give money or material support. you have experts saying that efforts target a domestic movement like Antifa, it would likely run up against the First Amendment and other legal issues. And then also, even if that wasn't the case, there's little evidence to suggest that Antifa terrorism is a major threat like Trump's describing. But according to data from the Center for Strategic and International Studies, attacks from left-wing perpetrators, including Antifa, make up a small percentage of overall terrorist attacks and casualties in the U.S. And in fact, 57% of attacks over the study period were perpetrated by right-wing
Starting point is 00:09:33 terrorists. And so with that, it's why you have so many people worried that Antifa, it's really just going to be used as a catch-all term for any left-wing organization or any kind of thing that stands in Trump's way. And all of this, as we've all seen, even if some court ultimately says, hey, that's 100% illegal, a lot of damage can be done in the meantime and even afterwards. Now, that's said, you still had Republicans coming out in support, including Senator Bill Cassidy, for example, saying in a statement, Antifa seized upon a movement of legitimate grievances to promote violence and anarchy working against justice for all. The president is right to recognize the destructive role of Antifa by designating them domestic terrorists. Right, with many,
Starting point is 00:10:08 I'm saying Cassidy might be going hard in the paint here as a way to try to make up for the fact that he had to go against RFK yesterday. Right, but that brings us to Congress because with all the fallout from Kirk's murder, there's been a lot happening on that front as well, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, for example, getting ready to force a vote on a resolution honoring Kirk. And I say forced because the Democrats do not seem too thrilled about it. Or with one, for example, telling Axios, people are worried that we're being totally set up because anything short of a unanimous vote could be a rallying cry for Republicans. But as far as what the resolution itself looks like, it eulogizes Kirk as a debacle. voted Christian and a courageous American patriot declaring, Charlie Kirk personified the values of the First Amendment,
Starting point is 00:10:43 exercising as God-given right to speak freely, challenge prevailing narratives, and did so with honor, courage, and respect for his fellow Americans. While minority leader, Hakeem Jeffries, isn't planning on telling Democrats on how to vote. You had Representative Crockett already saying, she's planning to vote no, saying she's not sure what is honorable about Kirk's past statements.
Starting point is 00:10:59 Right, and that is, she's not the only Democrat potentially in the center of a controversy right now. Right, just yesterday, Representative Ilhan Omar narrowly escaped being censured by the House when she said after Kirk's death, Charlie was someone who once said, you know, guns save lives after a school shooting. Charlie was someone who was willing to debate and downplay the death of George Floyd in the hands of Minneapolis police. I think he called him a scumbag.
Starting point is 00:11:28 Right. Have no regard. Downplay slavery and what black people have gone through in this country. And then she reposted this clip on Twitter. Don't be fooled. These people don't give a single shit about Charlie Kirk. They are just using his death to further their Christophascist agenda. And before I continue, I need to say that this revisionist history about who Kirk was is just as perplexing. Kirk was a reprehensible human being. He enacted his political agenda by preying upon weak-minded people. He took complex socioeconomic issues and simplified them by pointing fingers at outgroups, demonizing those groups, and then sicken his massive following on them. He was a sarcastic terrorist, an adamant transnational. He denied the genocide happening in Palestine. He believed in the subjugation of women and with his last dying words, he was spewing racist dog whistles. Charlie Kirk was Dr. Frankenstein and his monster shot him through the neck. And all of that said, none of us should want to live in a society where these types of killings become the norm. But then Nancy May is filing the resolution to censure Omar, which would have stripped her of her committee assignments and she said, you celebrated his murder and
Starting point is 00:12:33 now you're scrambling to save face. You didn't condemn political violence. You glorified it and you got Of course, to be clear, Omar did condemn Kirk's murder, and also something that you've seen more and more people saying in general is that there's often little distinction being drawn between those who condemned the assassination of Kirk, but were also critical of things that he said, and those who actually celebrate. But in any case, what you had was the House voting 214 to 213 to dismiss the resolution, meaning that four Republicans joined Democrats in voting in favor of Omar. And so with that, you had people like Representative Mike Flood of Nebraska saying, this is a First Amendment issue. We may not like or agree with what someone says, but
Starting point is 00:13:06 that does not mean we should deny their First Amendment right. But then you had Mace accusing him and the other dissenting Republicans of selling out. And then all of this is on the flip side. You had Democrats today introducing new legislation that Schumer says is intended to protect free speech in the wake of the Trump administration's attacks on it. But for now, that is where we are with everything. We're going to have to wait to see how things play out. I think this is going to be a very, very interesting weekend. So with all of this, you know, yes, the Philip DiPranco show is a daily news show. But I also wanted to be a conversation. I'd love to hear from me. What are your thoughts, opinions, and reactions on all of this, including what's happening with Kimmel. But the next
Starting point is 00:13:36 Up in the news today, you know, with the high-profile assassinations and shootings we've seen lately, there's been a big question of how are people getting so radicalized? And you're seeing no shortage of blame and finger pointing with all that, but House Oversight and Government and Reform Committee chair, James Comer, he's zeroing in on four companies. Discord, Reddit, Twitch, and Steam. And you had Comer, writing that Charlie Kirk's killing was the catalyst for this questioning, and he added, in the wake of this tragedy and amid other acts of politically motivated violence, Congress has a duty to oversee the online platforms that radicals have used to advance political
Starting point is 00:14:06 violence. To prevent future radicalization and violence, the CEOs of Discord, Steam, Twitch, and Reddit must appear before the Oversight Committee and explain what actions they will take to ensure their platforms are not exploited for nefarious purposes. And on the surface, it can make some sense why Congress would want to talk to these platforms, right? Kirk suspected killer. He reportedly had extensive conversations on Discord about the shooting, which led to FBI Director Cash Patel yesterday, a warning that the agency would be investigating anyone involved in the chat. But then you're also seeing people saying, well, why the other platforms? Right, asking why is Reddit included when they're unsure if Tyler Robinson was even active on the platform?
Starting point is 00:14:37 And then you've got people asking questions about Steam and Twitch. Right, and with Twitch specifically, you have big online political commentators like Hassan Pike are sounding off saying it feels like there's another reason they're including Twitch. Yeah, I wonder why they're going after Twitch. Even though Twitch wasn't even mentioned in the investigation, I think we all know why, okay? It's it's cancel culture and they love it and they love weaponizing it and they're going to keep weaponizing it against their. ideological opponents, okay? Very clear what they're doing. With Asan and a lot of his fans feeling like he's the target there. But also, the real head scratcher for a lot of people was Valve, which owns Steam. It's a video game market. And while you can message people on there and interact
Starting point is 00:15:18 directly, it's unclear exactly how it's related to any recent political violence. So that's also likely why you had people like Rod Breslau making claims like, the government is scapegoating social media, chat, and video games under the guise of political deradicalization as a way to censor the Meanwhile, all the free speech guys cheer this on because they want certain streamers banned over personal vendettas. It's pathetic. You then also had others mocking the situation saying things like Gabe Newell is going to announce Half-Life 3 in front of Congress. Holy shit. And in general, there was a sentiment that this was an effort by government officials to effectively clamp down and force these companies to tow the line. You know, personally, yeah, given what we know right now, I am a little confused about Steam being
Starting point is 00:15:54 included here, especially when others could have been included. Like, yeah, when it comes to certain Steam games like VR chat, there can be a similar concern. to how people are worried about kids with Roblox. You know, when it comes to safety, those are conversations we should have. Also, I think there's a lot that parents should be doing and engaging with and understanding when it comes to the kind of content that their kids might be accessing. Accessing, I don't know why I said it like that. But I do feel like I'm taking crazy pills when Steam is being included here
Starting point is 00:16:19 and like X isn't being included here or Facebook, Rumble, or it's such a weird thing. You know, for now we're going to have to wait to see what happens from now until these CEOs are in front of Congress. And then we've got more we've got to do. into, but first let me say, you know, my old phone carrier thanked me for my loyalty by raising my bill. I mean, it's a toxic relationship. So I dumped them and I switched to today's sponsor, MintMobil. And right now, new customers get three months of unlimited premium wireless for just 15 bucks a month. Let's talk, text, and data on the nation's largest 5G network with coverage for 98% of Americans.
Starting point is 00:16:50 Also, free calling to Canada, Mexico, and the UK, because apparently we all have that one cousin abroad that we still text. And hotspots included, too, 10 gigs on Unlimited, so you can scroll, stream, or work wherever without begging for Wi-Fi. The best part, Mint made the whole thing easy and online. No stores, no salespeople, no hidden activation fees. You sign up, activate the ESIM and minutes and keep your number. And if you buy three, six or 12 months up front, you can save even more. It's like Costco for wireless. Hey, if you're worried about service, 96% of users rate Mintz customer care as highly satisfied. So if you're over your toxic relationship like I was, go to mintmobile.com slash defranco and get this new customer offer
Starting point is 00:17:24 with three months unlimited wireless plan for just 15 bucks a month. Again, that's mintmobile.com slash to Frank when that offer ends September 22nd. And finally, the fun part. A front payment of $45 required, equivalent to $15 a month. Limited time, new customer offer for first three months only. Speeds may slow about 35 gigabytes on a limited plan, taxes and fees, extra FCMet mobile for details. But the next up in the news from that, some very different news. We should talk about this missing girl that was found dead in the singer David's car.
Starting point is 00:17:47 And David, if you don't know, he's a big name in music right now. His song Here With Me has gone very viral on TikTok. He just made a theme for Fortnite as well. Even if you don't know, this might sound familiar because the story actually starts a week ago when you had L.A. police saying they found a body in an impounded Tesla that was registered to David. Right in the car was at a tow yard in Hollywood, the authorities not really initially saying who they believe the remains were, and David, he was reportedly on tour at the time that the body was found. But then, fast forward yesterday, and the LAPD identified the body in David's car as 15-year-old Celeste Rivas, who was
Starting point is 00:18:16 reportedly missing from Riverside County in April of 2024 when she was just 13 years old. Her body was described as severely decomposed, and you had NBC News also reporting that the remains were not intact, and it appeared she had been dead for an extended period of time. Right, and as far as she was identified, the medical examiner noted that the body had a tattoo on the right index finger saying, and a woman claiming to be Celeste's mother contacted TMZ to say she thought it could be her daughter. And then with all that, you had some noting that it appears that David also has a tattoo on his finger. And from there, TMZ says that they forwarded the information from the mother to LAPD's homicide division. This is TMZ also reported that the mom said that her daughter
Starting point is 00:18:50 had a boyfriend named David, though, I will say right now, it is important to note that TMZ is one of the very few big outlets reporting that right now. That said as far as what else we know, that Tesla her body was in was initially found abandoned on a public street before going to the tola. And according to local reports, a house near where it was abandoned was searched last night. But apart from that, we really don't know much else with the LAPD telling NBC news. At this time, the LAPD does not have a crime classification from the coroner as the mode or manner of death. Thus, we do not have any suspect information. But now, with the case getting a ton of attention online, you have internet detectives using David's music, work, and other information to now try to allege that he's behind this.
Starting point is 00:19:24 Though, again, as of right now, the LAPD said that there are no current persons of interest, and this hasn't even officially been ruled a homicide yet. But with that said, we're already seeing some fallout with brands like Hollister and Crocs saying that they're removing him from ad campaigns. Also, Calliucci said that she's going to be pulling her song with him as well. And he also canceled his concert last night, and he's scheduled to perform in L.A. soon. So we're going to have to see if any of that changes. But in the meantime, we're going to have to wait to see what happens.
Starting point is 00:19:45 And, of course, I'd love to know your thoughts and reactions. But then next up in the news, we should talk about how a group of Northeastern states, They've now officially formed a regional public health coalition to counter RFK Jr. And this, as it turns out as long but in the works, and it mirrors a nearly identical effort that we've seen with West Coast states, including California, called the West Coast Health Alliance. So this new group called the Northeast Public Health Collaborative is basically the East Coast version of that.
Starting point is 00:20:07 And right now, it includes seven states. You've got Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York State, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island. And again, like the West Coast version, this coalition is specifically designed to coordinate public health efforts and issue vaccine recommendations to combat Kennedy's sweeping campaign against vaccines that has been widely condemned as unscientific. This new coalition comes at an absolutely key time because, like we talked about a few weeks ago, the FDA recently restricted its approval of updated COVID vaccines, recommending
Starting point is 00:20:31 them only to people 65 and older and those with health complications that put them at risk. A move that the scientific community is widely condemned, arguing that it's not rooted, in fact, and poses a serious risk for flu and cold season. And actually, as I was recording today's show, you had the CDC's vaccine advisory panel holding an incredibly important meeting that could have massive implications for millions of Americans, but especially children. Because the panel, the advisory committee on immunization practices, it's incredibly powerful. It makes vaccine recommendations for the CDC, and the agency almost always enacts its guidance.
Starting point is 00:20:58 But you've also had experts expressing widespread concerns about the panel's credibility after RFK Jr. fired all the previous experts and stuffed it with his own hand-picked appointees, which includes people who have been called vaccine skeptics and people who have openly advocated against vaccine use. And that committee, it's about to face a major test because its meeting today is to discuss recommendations for key childhood immunizations for Hep B and a combination shot that protects against measles, mom, rubella, and chickenpox. And then, of course, tomorrow, the committee is set to discuss recommendations for the COVID vaccine. And so you've got a lot of concerned experts, and there's speculation that they're going to roll back past recommendations
Starting point is 00:21:29 and impose age restrictions that limit access. And I really can't overstate how big that would be. I mean, you had places like Reuters explaining that changing the childhood vaccine schedule would be, quote, one of the most consequential policy moves under health secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., that medical experts have said would expose many more Americans to preventable diseases. But then, to bring it back where we started, that the idea with these regional interstate health block, is that they could counter the federal recommendations from RFK's hand-picked vaccine skeptics and go back to the long-standing science-back guidelines.
Starting point is 00:21:57 And in fact, just yesterday, you had the West Coast Coalition issuing its own recommendations on COVID, flu, and RSV shots that fall more in line with the standards that we've had for years. And then just today, New York Governor Kathy Hochel announced that the newly formed East Coast block has already issued its own recommendations for COVID shots that would dramatically expand access beyond the FDA's guidelines. But again, this is a fight that we're going to see play out over a long period of time, though, of course, just the next 24 to 36 hours could have massive implications. But then, y'all, finally today, I want to end with two things.
Starting point is 00:22:25 One, light and happy congratulations, and two, one important final thing. So we'll start with, congrats to Clifford F, Ckeek's latest weekly winner, who's turning that prize money into tickets for the innings festival. For the rest of y'all, that's right. Seekeek is still giving away $500 in tickets, and you should definitely enter today if you haven't already. That's 500 a week. I mean, imagine me in the next winter and snacking $500 towards seeing your favorite artist, sporting a better play.
Starting point is 00:22:47 I mean, there's like over 70,000 events to choose from. And all you got to do is add code to Franco to your seek-eak app profile for a chance of the weekly $500 prize, no purchase necessary. But then finally, today, you know, I know a lot of people are thinking about the now, but they're also thinking about the future. And I think that sometimes the best way to kind of predict what's to come is to look back. And so that's actually why today I spoke with Mr. Beat. He's a former social studies teacher turned history YouTuber and actually now a fellow
Starting point is 00:23:10 at the Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas. And we can check out the whole over-an-hour conversation on the links below. I wanted to include when I asked him about what is to come for America. We're the best educated guests given U.S. history. Where do you see the United States in the next two, seven, ten years? Oh, good. I'm glad you said ten, because the next two years are going to suck. Just is just like, again, I'm always zoomed out. I'm always like trying to avoid the day-to-day news cycle.
Starting point is 00:23:39 And I'm just looking at broader trends. Because I think for one reason, it helps my own sanity. So, but yeah, I do think the next couple of years, based on historical trends, are really going to be chaotic. And we don't have leadership that's trying to unite us. They're just trying to exploit the fact that there's division and use that to their advantage. So, yes, things will get worse, which is hard to imagine because things are already pretty rough. But I think compounded with the fact that economically things will, we're going to have stagflation, which just means low economic growth. high unemployment combined with really high inflation.
Starting point is 00:24:18 We haven't had that since the 1970s, by the way. That's like pretty much the worst economic situation. And it's going to happen. And so people will become even more radicalized. Seven years down the road, I think we'll be in a much better place. 10 years down the road, I think it'll be night and day. I think we're going to look back on this time. We'll be like, oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:24:42 I just think that a lot of things can actually happen. that for the better in a short amount of time. And that's, again, I brought up to the 60s as a time of, sure, it was chaotic, but there was also a lot of really important impactful reforms made during that time. Same thing with the 1890s, early 1900s. Even you can say the 1930s where we had the Great Depression,
Starting point is 00:25:08 you had some chaos, but you had some good programs come out of the, with the new deal that are still with us today.
