This podcast is for informational purposes only. All right, guys. Bang, bang. We're out here in Los Angeles
Starting point is 00:03:58 with SoFi for the Super Bowl. Me and Joe, we found this nerd walking around, got all kinds of great gear. Show them your jersey there. What's going on with that? Well, I got the, should I talk like Sebastian Maniscalco? I got this jacket on Amazon, $29.95.
Starting point is 00:04:16 Is that really what you need? No, I know. Someone already said, like, you don't look old enough to be here. Dude, you have to have a big house, like, to put all this shit you buy in. I have a nice house, a nice vault. Yeah, I have a nice-sized house.
Starting point is 00:04:30 How many rooms in your house are dedicated to live-living stuff? No, wife is very, you put that stuff over there. You know, she's very, so I really don't have, like, I'm not, like, showing a lot of my stuff. I don't have, like, a man cave kind of situation, believe it or not. All right. Because some of this stuff is valuable. Like, I can't have it out. Well, your jacket's not.
Starting point is 00:04:52 It's only $20. I bought the Jim Everett jersey. You know, because the whole not Chris, just one of the most legendary moments of all time. That's true. So what's going to happen if Odell scores a touchdown in the Super Bowl? Like, I think that he already everyone's just waiting. And I saw a viral tweet that said if Odell scores a touchdown to the Super Bowl, he's going to do the halftime show. Like, is it going to be fireworks? Yeah. Listen, I mean, Odell is like one of those guys. Joe knows. I mean, like people thought to go from the viral moment of that catch to like you're going to the Browns.
Starting point is 00:05:25 to the Browns are going to win the Super Bowl, to the Browns are not going to win the Super Bowl, and you are irrelevant and have not played for any team. I mean, that was a pretty big fall from Grish back to where he is now. LA, Super Bowl. Yeah, and I was at the NFL shop yesterday, and the amount of people looking at Odell Beckham jerseys were probably more than Cooper Cup jerseys in the moment, in the moment that I was there.
Starting point is 00:05:46 That's a very scientific analysis as I was sitting here counting people. So there was a, you posted the other day about Antonio Brown. He said that he bought a box at the Super Bowl. the owner's suite for a couple million dollars okay that was fake right so i did i did call uh the guy answered the phone and said we did sell it to antonio brown i said uh for two million dollars and the guy goes i have to call my boss about that i'll call you back and he never called me back but they did but they did sell it they did sell it to they say they sold it to antonio brown the owner's suite yes that's that uh is surprising i guess but i don't know what he bought
Starting point is 00:06:26 it in whether he bought it in bitcoin or whatever but who knows can we settle the bitcoin uh obj thing real quick like you know you're wrong on his decision to get bitcoin so so let me tell you so we don't know how he was paid he still could be getting paid which means that we don't know i Is his salary over? Is his salary still getting paid, right? We don't know because you can get paid up to three months after the season for his $750,000. So I overly simplified it, right? Because at each point, you would get what you would get at each point.
Starting point is 00:07:03 You're laughing because overly simplified means it's not wrong. It means it's not worse than it really is. No, I didn't try to make it look worse than it really is. You said that he was getting paid a high school janitor's salary. $37,000. You know what, Matthew, you were doing economist math. You literally were like, they're like, oh, we think inflation is going to be 4%. There's like 7.5%.
Starting point is 00:07:22 It was probably closer to double. So maybe like, so if you did at each point, maybe it was like as much as $75,000. All right, but what about now, right? He's getting playoff bonuses, incentives. Right. It makes it look as he's, well, I didn't know he was going to get a $7.50. It makes it look a little bit better. But he's getting Bitcoin at half the price now.
Starting point is 00:07:43 double the big if if if right if he is getting right yeah and so you tweeted i think i can't remember if it was at me or at joe and said that uh you would not take your any portion of your salary in bitcoin if cash app or strike or anybody or would i take a million dollars yes no no no if they paid you a million dollar marketing deal and to take a portion of your salary in bitcoin you wouldn't do that i would not do it that's stupid why would you not do that because i right now i don't believe in bitcoin and i don't think a million dollars makes me believe in it more but then you could just take the bitcoin and sell it into dollars but i don't but i'm an honest man and i i don't why would you be dishonest because if i don't believe in it then i don't want to
Starting point is 00:08:25 take it okay do you believe in the dollar i do and you think that holding cash is smart i don't hold cash i invested in other things but you're short the dollar but you're well Well, you're telling, no, I don't keep it in a bank for 0.001% in some way I am, but I disagree with you that the dollar is, the dollar and Bitcoin are on either side of the scale. Yeah, I actually don't think they're diabolically opposed to each other, but I'm just saying that you say that you're, you like the dollar, but you're really short the dollar. I like the dollar as the most accepted form of currency in the world. Of course. Anyone who denies that is crazy. But I don't, well, you're right.
Starting point is 00:09:14 If I took whatever they gave me in Bitcoin and converted it to dollars, but if I did that privately, that would be disingenuous. You're saying, why do I have to believe in Bitcoin? Are you saying that? Well, you could be public and say, I don't believe in it and still do it. No, that's like Tom Brady and the Subway sandwich. I'm not doing that. Why not?
Starting point is 00:09:32 That's not worth a million dollars. What's the craziest advertisement? Tom Brady's reputation went up because of that. People were like, that's hilarious. He got paid. Yeah. If you're honest about it, I feel like. He's Tom Brady.
Starting point is 00:09:43 He's got a lot on me. Yeah. That's true. Yeah, I'm Darren Rubell. Have you seen your 40-yard dash? Yeah. Hey, all I say is it's the most watched 40-yard dash in history. Almost 9 million views.
Starting point is 00:09:53 Beats Usain Bolt by 3 million. Like, you know, that's all I care about. It's true. I mean, it's true. Like, it doesn't matter. It is true, right? It is true. Can I ask?
Starting point is 00:10:03 Oh, go ahead. If an actual dump came out of my pants while I was running it, that's the only way I could have done better. We're talking about Bitcoin, right? You do a lot in collectibles. How do you think about the return of collectibles, right? Like long term, like your personal portfolio, but also. I mean, that's a good question. Like, I think long term, the stuff that I'm in, I like.
Starting point is 00:10:26 I buy things. And you're right. I do take my cash and put a lot of it into collectibles because I am in some way short dollars. But how do you think about performance versus like stocks and other things, right? Like you bought the Viagra pill bottle. How much do you expect something like that to go up in value? That's a 2 or 3x over time. Who was it?
Starting point is 00:10:51 Hugh Hefner's pill bottle. Yeah, is that sitting in your bathroom or something? No, no, no. No, I didn't want to put like blue jelly bellies But so there are some things that I have more expectation than others But I'm buying one of one items that I can control see when people do collectibles The one thing they forget is you have to know who else is in the exact collectible that you're in. Yeah Yeah, so if you're buying Luka Donchik silver prisms You better know that that slants towards 18- to 22-year-olds who don't have a lot of cash on hand or whatever. And so as soon as it goes down, they're going to go down sooner.
Starting point is 00:11:33 I think that's the biggest mistake that people make, that if you're in this class of collectibles that other people are in, you have to watch around you. So me, I go into one-of-one items. I'm trying to get— How do you determine the price of, like, what would you buy the Hefner bottle for? $8,000. The auction house said it was worth $2,000. Okay, but why did you pay? because I had to know because I had to eat I want everything but it has to be rational or I'll walk
Starting point is 00:11:57 away in my eyes four times higher than what the auction house said but the auction house doesn't know what they're talking about okay so how much do you think it's worth I think it's worth assuming that there's not a bad documentary on you have oh there is a bad documentary on you after um I don't know if you saw the the recent one um you know no uh I I think it's could easily it's a Conversation piece, I only need to find one buyer, and I will easily find one buyer at two to three X. Easily. Okay, how long do you think you'll have to hold it?
Starting point is 00:12:26 Maybe a couple years, but it just depends on who I tell the story to, and, you know, so I brought a couple collectibles today. What do you have? What is? So, that is the Tiger Woods American Express card. Turn it around, so in 2004, they did a Caddyshack commercial for American Express,
Starting point is 00:12:45 And that was what Tiger held and used for the commercial. But this isn't his real one. No, it's not his real one. He probably would have his Centurion one, and he probably left it at Perkins. So how much did you buy this for? $6,500. $6,500. I could sell that today for $30 easily.
Starting point is 00:13:04 Really? Yeah. To who? There's a lot of people who want that. Like, no, but to what type of person? How do you do most of these sales? Is it people you know? A lot of private sales.
Starting point is 00:13:12 So I recently sold, I bought Tiger Woods first ticket at the, what are you doing? I brought something for you as well. I'm not going to give it to you. Oh my God. Does he have cash in his wallet? I got something. Is there cash in your wallet? I do.
Starting point is 00:13:25 Hold on though. Have you ever seen a $10 billion Zimbabwe bill? That's pretty cool. That's pretty cool. What's it worth? $3? No, zero. Oh, zero.
Starting point is 00:13:34 That beats my $2 bill. And then do you know what these are? Let me see. This is a $2 bill. But let me explain to you how collectibles work. You see his right there? Yep. These $2 bills.
Starting point is 00:13:46 They're not just any $2 bills. Do you know who $2 Steve is? No. Oh, come on. Joe, come on. Tell the story. This is a $2 bill. From Auburn?
Starting point is 00:13:56 No, from $2 Steve. Drake's a lawyer. Okay. He is $2 Steve. He goes to a lot of concerts, and he throws $2 bills out to everyone for good luck. He was at the bar last night. Oh, wow. Handing out $2 bills.
Starting point is 00:14:08 So this is an original. So this is worth more than $2 now. This is an original $2 feed. Oh, shouldn't it be worth $1.87 according to you? I only need to find one buyer. And we happen to know somebody who buys a lot of dumb shit. There we go. You guys are teaming up on me now.
Starting point is 00:14:28 I'm getting up. Here's the real question. Which one of these is worth more? Probably this one. A $10 billion. You can actually buy these on eBay. Yeah, I love those. Yeah, I love those.
Starting point is 00:14:38 They're not that expensive, they're, you know. But I also have one other thing, just as we're doing this, I think you'll find it interesting. I also have another worthless currency, which is the Venezuelan. Cinqueta boletos. And yeah, right there.
Starting point is 00:14:55 Bolivares. And it is actually used as art. It's so worthless on the streets of Venezuela. This is really good for your brand, showing worthless currency. Wow. What's next, a dollar? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:07 All right, so I got a couple other questions for you, then we'll let you go. You, I believe, played basketball one time against Big Cat. I did. Do you remember this? Yeah, I lost 11-0. 11-0. Was that like, did you lose intentionally, or were you actually trying? No, I was trying.
Starting point is 00:15:26 He, at the time, was about 100 pounds less than he is today. Less than he is today. And he was in good shape, and I was in bad shape. He's still athletic, except I don't know if you saw the video of him falling in the pool. I did. I did. Listen, I have great respect for him. He is, as far as someone who loves people as brands, he has established himself, and I have amazing respect, and that's why I showed up that day, knowing I was going to lose 11-0, knowing he was going to put a squid hat on my head,
Starting point is 00:15:49 knowing I was going to have to say Viva La Stool. My father actually was there because I took him to a Cubs game. I was singing the seventh inning stretch at the Cubs game. He's a Cubs fan. His son singing the seventh inning stretch. This was a lifelong dream for him. And I said, we've got to go to a basketball game. I'm going to get my ass kicked. And he's like, why would you do this? And they're going to tape it. And I say, Dad, because let me tell you, I've learned that even if you get your butt kicked,
Starting point is 00:16:10 if you get your butt kicked, people will respect you if you show up. Yeah, that's true. He did not understand it. He didn't get why I showed up. Does Big Cat like you? Yeah, I think so, privately. Privately. Yeah, but publicly, not a fan.
Starting point is 00:16:22 Not so much. That's okay. What happened to the boxing match? Yeah. Luckily, I didn't do it because I didn't know that I had latent spinal cord issues. I mean, I could have really gotten paralyzed. Who were you going to box? PFT.
Starting point is 00:16:34 I wanted $2 million. Jose Canseco got $1.2 million. I thought I should have at least gotten $2 million. Well, he threw the fight. He threw the fight. Did he get paid for that still? He did. I would say I would sign some sort of document that I would not.
Starting point is 00:16:48 Of course I wouldn't throw the fight. I have much more pride, and I think I could win. Do you think that you could beat up PFT? I do. Really? Yeah, I think I can beat him, yeah. And if you give me a chance, listen. I think he could beat you up with one hand.
Starting point is 00:16:58 No way. You've got to understand, I might be a nerd, But, like, when I get motivated, I mean, you know, I ran the Chicago Marathon. I beat Tiki Barber in the Chicago Marathon. Don't come at the Giants. When I get motivated, I'm motivated. So you would train? I would train.
Starting point is 00:17:15 I'd do everything legal. Would you take steroids? HGH. I would take HGH, creatine, everything legal. Why do you think PFT does that? I would only eat liver like the liver king. Have you seen them bench press on their podcast? I don't care.
Starting point is 00:17:29 Have you seen me have a nerd attack? if the fight's any indication if that was your move I think he wins I have two more questions for you and I'm sure Joe's got a bunch as well why is nobody watching the Olympics? Why does nobody care?
Starting point is 00:17:46 You know what? This could be the first Olympics that I haven't watched one I couldn't even tell you other than Sean White who's even in the Olympics and I feel bad I feel like we're not being patriotic by watching but nobody cares I think some of it is that it was just eight months from the last Olympics.
Starting point is 00:18:01 So you go from four years to two years to now eight months. And also there's sports that aren't usually in our everyday life. And so I think we haven't had a time. You really have to learn these people. This isn't like Tom Brady. So you have to learn these people. You have to sometimes even learn these sports. And that's why I think we just don't really care.
Starting point is 00:18:22 Plus the time difference is a disaster. I know Clay Travis will tell you it's because people are fed up with it. They're fed up with China. That's why they're fed up with China. Do you give that any weight? No, zero. No? Do you like China?
Starting point is 00:18:37 Here we go. You don't have to answer that. What's your problem with Clay Travis? I feel like he's like a nice guy. Are you guys friends offline? I think we used to. We're not anymore. It's real nasty.
Starting point is 00:18:49 It's crossed the line. Do you guys text each other? Like, fuck you? No, no, no, no, no. Let's text him right now. No. No, you should text him from your phone right now. And be like, Clay.
Starting point is 00:18:58 make a happy time i don't want to engage with poison how did this happen what set what set this relationship the covid the covid stuff i mean he said it was that there was going to be more people that died from car accidents or whatever yes why are we reporting this no one reports the 34 000 deaths a year from car accidents there'll be 200 people that will die in this country of covid and it was more than that and he made fun of the guy who said it would be two million so let's do a little bit of math the guy who and i'm not i'm not bragging about deaths which he thinks like why you break a million to two million okay so that guy was off by a factor okay clay with 200 now do 200 to a million okay like he and why he has any credibility and i think
Starting point is 00:19:41 it was his cavalier attitude not like he killed people i'm not going to go that far but it's his cavalier attitude that is you know in those areas now i i actually think the idea of kids wearing masks that when that that actual science probably doesn't work and i do think that it is very damaging to our children um but new york is crazy they're taking away the mask mandate but the kids have to wear the mask it doesn't make sense there's a lot there's a stacy abrams at the school yes yes what do you think about that you think it's wrong or how about eric garcetti holding his breath no i did i did i mean that's pretty ridiculous i did love i actually did love how they got uh what's his name uh newsome on on the cam uh the stadium freeze frame i mean
Starting point is 00:20:29 come on man you gotta know you gotta know i mean if you're a politician now and you have the mask mandates and you don't wear a mask everywhere like he's done that and then he's done that at dinners he's done it over and over again i listen it's all unfortunate but i just don't like the way he's kind of led the group of you know anti-vaxxers and this and that i don't wish badly on anyone but i just i don't like his his cavalier attitude i don't think it helps and i actually don't think he believes it i think he's a smart guy and i think he's playing a role you think so yes everything is like the wwe that's truly is that is true all right darren what's what's the uh the craziest stat about the super bowl sports business wise that you can come up
Starting point is 00:21:09 well the most bet on prop is the coin toss i mean is that asinine i i'm trying to figure out as someone who loves data yeah i know okay if you're bad better and you're like wow i got a 50 chance but i like what is exactly the bragging rights of like someone goes to a party you're like i told you it was tails yes i am such a sharp better that's exactly what they do do you want to know what the gatorade color is going to be joe has a plug i got a guy that's pretty good tell tell the uh tell tell uh no no well hold on there's this is now multiple years running we have this is a long story so we know a guy uh who one of his best friends works for the company that sets up all the stuff inside okay he claims uh and he usually sends out a text
Starting point is 00:21:56 you know a day or so before the game when they do the rehearsal for the halftime show they do everything and uh he tells us what color the gatorades are going to be how long or what the first song the halftime show is going to be and so and does it line up just a half time show line up it worked uh for sure last year yeah i don't believe this guy he was correct last year i mean And that's pretty hard to pick. I don't know what the history of it is, but it was certainly correct. That's pretty hard to pick the Gatorade color and the first. We had Jay Feeley's tie the previous year.
Starting point is 00:22:22 But Jay Feeley's tie, that bet didn't pay out because Jay Feeley posted a picture online. Is that legal? Not legal betting. So you can bet on the Gatorade color legally. It goes obviously by state and the Gaming Commission. You cannot bet on the National Anthem anywhere. Because they think that there's one. they're uncomfortable in general with people knowing or and and that's why they've taken
Starting point is 00:22:46 away song order they're they're very uncomfortable with that it's funny because when this first started billy the first year i think you know it's oh six or something i asked billy joel i go you know you could bet on the national anthem and he's the one singing the national anthem and you could see in his eyes like he he was like you can like i'm gonna time it like you know you His eyes cannot lie. Like, he's like, I don't have time. And it's been so fun. I'll still talk.
Starting point is 00:23:11 Like, I'm not allowed to talk about bets that are illegal, but, like, I'll talk about the National Anthem because it is so fun. There's been so much controversy. Is it illegal now? You cannot bet on it. You can't bet on it. So it's not necessarily illegal. It's just they won't support it. It's illegal.
Starting point is 00:23:23 You can do it like an offshore book. It's an offshore book, but an offshore book's illegal. Now, illegal meaning no person has ever been arrested or gone to jail for betting in an illegal book. But if you are owning the illegal book, that's when you're in trouble. But you know that Bitcoin is really big. Like, Drake bet a bunch of Bitcoin on the game. I saw that. So I saw that.
Starting point is 00:23:42 And someone asked me whether I thought Bitcoin books were going to be a thing. That's an offshore book, by the way. Well, because that's why you use Bitcoin is because it's offshore. Do you think that's going to be a thing? I think as long as Bitcoin stays up beyond where the person got in on it, I assume Drake was in early. I mean, Drake started at the bottom. Okay. So everything's free.
Starting point is 00:24:03 Oh, that's a good one. That was good, right? I just got that. You know, sometimes I don't really get those musical references, but I got that. But, yeah, so as long as Bitcoin stays, I think they'll do it. But I think they'll have a very hard time having legal books like that just because of tracking it. Yeah. New York is.
Starting point is 00:24:20 But anyway, the National Anthem has been really fun because sometimes someone forgot a word. There's all these calls. So it doesn't start when the music starts. it's if there is any accompaniment it starts with when someone says oh and it ends on the first brave like a couple years ago someone went home of the brave of the brave of the brave and that those last two of the braves didn't count and they don't count right so that and by the way kind of feels like that's bullshit if you counted the other two braves it would have gone over but it went on later people have been what's the deal with mattress mac how much has he bet on this
Starting point is 00:24:54 now nine nine and a half million to win 16 young people are like is it just a front i mean could could could people in houston people that don't know what is what's the story is this guy jim mackinvale he's like a local celebrity he has three stores gallery furniture um in houston and anyone who buys more than three thousand dollars in mattresses uh or furniture gets it for free if the team that he's betting on wins so he's using it as insurance and over over the past three years he's been probably 50 million bucks is he one yes but when he wins he also gives his money he loses yeah he uses that but his act but but i think he should have a national uh property like he should have a gallery furniture in every city because he's almost gotten this publicity
Starting point is 00:25:43 that is useless but his his store is amazing you go just for someone who likes business why don't you start is the actual business though uh i mean like big or no his the one if your name is mattress mac and you got a small mattress store something's wrong like it's local though it's three stores it's the size of your mattress that counts um he he if you go i went to one of his stores it has like a petting zoo in it uh food and beverage so it's like uh your kids your kid yeah i don't think there's a babysitting service but there's enough lego and stickers yeah for everything your kid would stay there for a while yeah yeah yeah she has a lot of bitcoin she does baby coin uh why don't you start she should start a coin no she's not a coin okay
Starting point is 00:26:24 uh why don't you start your own like uh casino chain call it like rovel's roulette or something like that i always had a dream to have a riverboat why don't you do it maybe she knows arts like like why don't you just go and start but i bet you a lot of people would show up like just sports gambling physical locations just sports gambling it makes sense yeah yeah well yeah you changed the name like rovell's i think you're giving me more credit than my brand deserves i don't know like people can come and like if you had one location they could come and talk shit to you while they bet and like you'd love it because you could talk shit back and take
Starting point is 00:27:03 so i'd always be i'd always have to be there right well just like while you're watching the games i mean you watch the biggest better in the world it's hard to say i mean like legit i don't match with matt guy he doesn't count right like you don't know we don't know who the biggest better is like he doesn't want to be known probably uh it's funny because the guys have like giraffe kings and fan duel they've they've peeled back this year like i think caesars has been really aggressive giving me information but i think uh some of the big bettors don't want to don't want it out there and the value of giving me the information is obviously it's almost like an advertisement for your book that they're willing to take the big big bets but it's been
Starting point is 00:27:41 interesting how some of these guys have kind of do some of them lose money on the bets like oh like on a net basis or do they always come out on top i'll give you an example so the the afc nfc championship game that that uh that guy who who had the parlay of correct score right so 20 20 to win $579,000, people are like, oh, my God, FanDuel lost so big on that. I guarantee you they're getting $579,000 in correct score parlays for the Super Bowl, you know, that they've never done before. Did you see the Simpsons thing? No.
Starting point is 00:28:14 So there was a graphic that had Homer's belly. It said Bengals win, and there was cheerleaders, and then it said Cincinnati 34, L.A. 31. I mean, if that happens. They made it like The Simpsons had it. It was cobbled together from two separate episodes, one in 92 and one in 2005. And the score was never there. But it went viral.
Starting point is 00:28:39 Yeah, pretty good. The next day I called and said, have you had a lot of correct score 34-31? They go to our most popular bet today. So, like, people just rolled into it and, you know, bet it. And, by the way, if it did hit, that actually would be a problem. That would be, yeah. Because it's so 125 to 1. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:00 What do you think about FanDuel's deal with McAfee? I actually think that one is brilliant. On whose part? Even at the amount of money, like economic-wise. You have to put it against the amount of money they're spending on everything and the amount of money that Flutter and FanDuel is worth. It's not in a vacuum. But, I mean, I think McAfee as a personality is great, you know.
Starting point is 00:29:21 He's so hilarious. Is he the best? He's just really good at getting attention. So he's not the best. Very talented. No, he's the best in what? He's the best at getting attention. But I give him a lot of credit.
Starting point is 00:29:31 Is he a sports reporter? No, for sure not. Why not? He breaks news. Did you see the Aaron Rodgers interview? Is he a sports reporter? Not in the traditional sense. Why do you always try to give me problems?
Starting point is 00:29:43 I do have a Pat McAfee item, I think, in here. Wait, what? What is this LSU thing? What is this? Shaquille's ID. The Shaquille O'Neal's Identifications I'm going to give it to him
Starting point is 00:29:59 Oh you're going to give it to him It's his debut What is it? Pat McAfee's debut Ticket Oh It's very cool I'm going to get tickets
Starting point is 00:30:07 You guys are Friends? I'll get tickets How do you get I am telling teams That they should give Season ticket holders Physical
Starting point is 00:30:19 Physical tickets They'll pay $300 $400 so that when there is a big moment, there's a collectible. That drives the price up, I'm assuming, for you? Like if you go... It doesn't necessarily drive the price up, but it establishes the supply, right? Well, what it does is, for me, I like the idea of a moment happening
Starting point is 00:30:38 and then someone putting it on eBay and it being called. I think it hurts that there are not physical tickets for someone who collects a lot of physical tickets. Look how boring we are. Yeah, I don't know what he's doing. With a lack of respect. Sorry, somebody was sending important information. game like for the super bowl that we're giving nfts with the tickets would you ever buy one of
Starting point is 00:30:55 those uh probably not but i do like the idea you can talk about it i do like the idea of nfts connected to tickets and when you go you give a highlight and you get to keep it and it's in your digital wallet and you right but you're not collecting i'm not collecting anything you don't care about this physical physical only i'm getting tired i went through a war in the bathroom and i'm getting tired right now all right we can wrap up my last question for you is uh what advice you have for my brother i feel like uh we already passed the torch once but like he wants me to stay away from bitcoin no i do not want him to stay away from bitcoin i want to uh i want i i want him to just be careful okay but like you're short dollars come on i'm not a i'm not a dollar
Starting point is 00:31:48 maximus i'm not i don't talk about me being short dollars all day yeah i know but like i don't try to get people to short dollars i don't listen to what you said i just watch what you do and i knew you were short dollars why are you changing the topic did you want my advice yeah what is your advice no i think i think he's you know he's got it should he should he do a deal with like espn or should he just be like no i'm gonna stay self-sovereign on my own it depends on how why Why haven't you done that? Why haven't you done everything on your own? Right now I like my relationships and stuff like that.
Starting point is 00:32:23 You just signed a new deal, right? Yeah. How much did you get paid? Yeah, how's that work? It was public, I thought, right? What was the public number? More than a million dollars. A year?
Starting point is 00:32:33 Yeah. And how long is the contract? Two years. So you signed a two year, let's call it a million, two million dollars, whatever the amount is. And then you can do other stuff outside of. I like the Action Network. And what do they make you do for them?
Starting point is 00:32:47 Just cover? Report on the business of betting. Okay. And then what are you allowed to do? Anything else? I have a, my memorabilia deal is separate. Yeah. So that's like a sponsorship or a spokesman deal.
Starting point is 00:32:56 My non-betting podcast rights are separate. Okay. So yeah. Do you have, you have another podcast outside of betting? So you kind of are, you kind of are. Oh, you're doing a podcast? To be announced. Why don't you just do it with us?
Starting point is 00:33:08 We could, I mean, we would have a fire podcast. Probably make more money too. Uh, I have, Oh, you already have a deal. It's flushed out, but it's not. Well, we'll talk. We'll talk. All right. Is it with McAfee? You and Clay Travis. I mean, that is, that is a dynamic duo. By the way, that has, I have had someone who has offered to back that. I'll tell you right now, but we're going to call Clay after this and I promise you,
Starting point is 00:33:34 we will fund you, us and Clay Travis on a podcast together. Number one podcast in the world, hands down, not even close. if we if we were in person together and no we'd have to have security that would be it would be like the podcast version of jerry springer i mean it would be we every day you know he would do it i would go at him well do it i mean the dollars would be ridiculous because i legitimately hate him yeah why i think it's his radio show i think pretty big yeah that's what i'm saying like this is listen this is what we do we we like we're trying to do like a big show not like a small show and like if we're gonna do a big show so what do i do i fight with clay i know of it and
Starting point is 00:34:13 then i fight no no no no no no we're just gonna be referees yeah and then like just you and clay travis it's kind of like uh shannon sharp and uh yeah but that's all fake horses real hatred yeah well i know but that's what would be so great that's the motto real hatred real blows i don't think that we could sell that i can't say that yeah all right so cut that part okay So what, do you think he should do like an ESPN type deal? Do the old networks, is there still value? I think you're really good on your own. It depends on whether they stunt you or let you go, you know.
Starting point is 00:34:51 So, I mean, I think the huddle is pretty good. I like being on my own. Yeah, like I feel like he should do like a show up on ESPN. Well, just because then he can just dance on grades when he says stuff on the internet way before their reporter sure paid all that money to do their job okay i uh i would have talked about odell's contract in bitcoin i went on a local news station here in la you did very interesting clip yeah they should have invited me on too well well they were disproving your math they didn't want to actually misinform you know misinformation is a big problem in society right
Starting point is 00:35:23 now abc los angeles they said it's damn shit wow i said no yeah we didn't say that you didn't say No, he really did say that. He just said he's bad at math. All right, last thing we're going to do. Ready? What shoes you got on? I got the New Balance 327s. I like the big N.
Starting point is 00:35:41 I have 31 pair of them. Have you worn all of them? All the same color. No, that's not true. I have not worn all of them. All right, Joe, what shoes you got on? Nikes. The Air Max 95.
Starting point is 00:35:54 London's. Oh, the London's. What do you got on? Rothy's. What? Yeah, you don't know about these. I don't, they're ones that you find in Instagram for $29 or the ones that are $700? No, they're like $150.
Starting point is 00:36:05 There's nothing in between in your mind? Yeah, you can wash them, that's why I like them, you can put them in the washing machine. I bought, one time I bought shoes like Sun and Sea with a weird brand on Instagram shop. They came from Singapore and when you opened up the bag it smelled so bad, like they just put the glue on hot, it was gross. Have you ever bought fake collectibles? Like Logan Paul's thing just came out. Yes, I bought I bought a fake hand of God ticket. And, you know, I have a greater responsibility to when I learned that it's fake after I bought it. It was slabbed in a PSA case as real.
Starting point is 00:36:38 So then I had to go to PSA and basically say, let me deal with this guy. We have to put this out of circulation. And that's actually been an uncomfortable thing. I want you know, I once bought a fake signed Warren Buffett dollar fake based on. one was the dollar fake or was the signature fake based on one authenticator said it was real the other said it wasn't and um you just took a i took a flyer no and i said and i and then i it was turned out to be just too much of a question uh gave the guy the guy gave me the money back he goes i'd like to try to sell it again i go not really okay with that but then what do you do
Starting point is 00:37:21 Like, am I going to pay him another $5,000 or $10,000 to take it off him? So when I can, I take it off the market, which I did with PSA. We destroyed it. We got it. But, yeah, there's one of my first big collectibles I ever bought when I was 11 years old. It was fake. It was a Don Mattingly fake Columbus Clippers card with my $70 in allowance. How much did Mickey Mantle Baseballs go for signed?
Starting point is 00:37:47 Probably $500, $600. There's so many. He signed so many. Really? That's not as exciting. Who signs the least items? That I'd actually want? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:59 Dwayne Johnson does not sign. No. He's very difficult. You ever talk to him? I've never talked to him. We've communicated DM on Instagram, but I've never talked to him. What did he say? I was talking about Terra Mana.
Starting point is 00:38:18 I mean, it's amazing what he's built. and just kind of me just praising what he's done. Do you know how much of the business he owns? Of his own, of Terramona? Yeah. No, do you know? No. I would assume he probably owns half.
Starting point is 00:38:31 I think 33. I think those guys own 33%. Conor McGregor, I don't know what he owns. He probably owns 33% because I'm assuming Ken Austin, his company, they own a third. Yeah. He actually owns a third. And then there's probably investors, right?
Starting point is 00:38:43 I love when I ask Conor McGregor, uh is is proper 12 a sponsor of your ufc fight 205 he goes you bet your bollocks it is it's on the mat where his blood will be i mean he is the greatest he is so good he's amazing he is so good you bet your bollocks it is all right last question i have for you uh joe rogan has obviously become a hot topic in the ufc did you see the uh the clip yeah i saw the clip from uh israel uh last night no you're talking about the clip where he talks yes no joe rogan or joe rogan the n-word clip no yeah no no but but obviously last night a reporter asked dana white yeah about it and before he could respond uh what's the guy's name israel goodie eras no edison yeah the guy who's
Starting point is 00:39:38 just disgusting in terms of with the flying backhands and stuff like probably one of the more exciting UFC fighters he picked up the microphone and he was like I'll answer and then he basically was like I know that guy that guy's the man you know he's cool with me like everyone chill out stop trying to cancel this guy whatever like how do you think about uh a sport like the UFC which frankly has built a reputation on pushing the pace you know when COVID happened they went they found the fight island like all the stuff and then obviously Joe Rogan is involved because he is a commentator like is this just going to happen more and more in sports where people who have outside activities like a podcast or whatever something happens and then it gets
Starting point is 00:40:16 brought into the sports or into the teams the owners have to answer questions players it's very difficult with that n-word clip thing um i thought i don't know how you know i've been in controversies before and what's the biggest controversy probably in 2009 when i uh And I really was not aware of what I was doing. And thank God it was before Twitter was full stream. I would have, it would have been much worse. But in 2009, I believe, when Meb Kofleski won the New York City Marathon, I called him a ringer because he was born in Eritrea. I don't know what that is.
Starting point is 00:40:56 It's a country in Africa. Got it. It's a very small country in Africa. and i had said it's kind i was referring to him not being u.s for the record books right because we had not had a u.s man win it and i just thought just really provincially that should it count as a record he was born in africa and uh i wrote a whole column oh they counted it as a u.s athlete and you were saying He grew up in Africa
Starting point is 00:41:27 and he became a U.S. citizen. How do they officially if you're a U.S. citizen then it becomes You understand how I could have said that maybe, right? Why I'm asking the question.
Starting point is 00:41:42 But I didn't ask a question. I said he was a ringer. It's like you brought a Major League Baseball player to a softball game. This and that. I then went on a plane for 10 hours. I wrote the article and then you were like, I wrote the article from Chile. I, they don't want to, I was, I was with nine models, sports, illustrated models, dead serious, uh, the, in the Atacama desert,
Starting point is 00:42:06 you're getting the water. I was doing the business of the sports illustrated swimsuit issue. And, uh, it's a great, it's on Hulu if you want to watch it. Uh, and, uh, I was on the plane for 10 hours. And when I got off the plane, I had, uh, like 17 messages, 15 from my boss. and it was just a an ass storm where it was like do you realize that people who are u.s citizens like and who become citizens like you're just saying apologize oh yeah oh yeah and you're working at espn at the time i was working at cnbc cnbc and like what do they do when like that stuff
Starting point is 00:42:40 happens i mean they they said you have to yeah you have to have an apology yeah and uh and and i quickly realized that you do like a selfie video uh i did i did a letter i mean i did a response i think i might have gone on tv yeah uh it was like serious it was massive i i apologize to meb um you know but it's one of those things where you sometimes you don't sometimes you don't realize what you're what you're saying with the n word i just don't know how when joe was saying is out of context i just don't know how for a white man it can ever be out of context and i thought his apology like almost put more flames on the on the story so that you know i think you can also think that what he said is wrong right but also understand people have come to his head
Starting point is 00:43:25 and said do i think he's racist no right right right exactly know him the nuance gets lost on the internet right right well they listen there the the mob wants to take you down the mob wants to take you down and i and i understand so like we don't like cancel culture right do you think that it's just people finding new evidence online or do you think it's like being driven by people some people think that like you know there's politically i know portnoy thinks it's driven you like portnoy uh i think again as a brand he's amazing amazing what do you think about his lawsuit he has does that like an off-limits question do you know about it i do yeah i read i read his lawsuit
Starting point is 00:44:07 oh really oh you're like you're doing work damn you're just looking at it i'd like i'd like to see what i'd like to see what comes out in discovery i'd like to see what comes so you think he has a shot at winning i don't know he's a very public figure he's a public name the bigger you are the harder it is to win a slander suit um but but i'd like to he he's he's a compelling perspective he's he's he's not scared to to open it up now whether the lawsuit is itself is a tactic or not he's still he's going to open himself up to discovery and he's going to get discovery and i'm interested to see both sides for him well his perspective is it doesn't matter it's just out there um we'll see if it is or not but i don't think anything bad can ever cancel him
Starting point is 00:44:53 he's uncancelled i think he's probably uncancellable maybe one of the few like that no i don't think so i mean he's when i said when he has the stoolies and the masses and and it's it's nearly impossible yeah it uh i think that a lot of people just are pissed off about the cancel culture right right and they and they gravitate to him that in that way is that what you're saying no i'm saying like if uh uh again i don't know all the details but like based on the evidence he put forward when people see that like they don't correct a story or they don't retract something that he like the craziest thing about the business insider thing which is very interesting is that both stories came the day before penn national released earnings it's
Starting point is 00:45:36 stuff like that that is something that they are legit going to have to address because that that is the his biggest part of the suit his biggest chance that it is it was malicious his he has most of his net worth is in now i guess is in penn stock yeah so if he bankrupts business like if dave portnoy right el presidente right right right the man was who's handing out the newspapers yeah yeah yeah bankrupt business insider there'll be a lot of people clapping Well, he's just the Hall of Fame of the internet. Yeah, I agree. I agree.
Starting point is 00:46:13 Like Hulk Hogan, obviously. H-A-U-L, Hall of Fame. Yeah. Just like at that point, like, I think people are just like, wow. Yeah, I agree. I agree. All right. So you just want more information to see what happens there?
Starting point is 00:46:25 All right. That's fine. You got any questions for us? Nope. Okay, great. That was awesome. No, I love you guys. I love you guys.
Starting point is 00:46:31 I think we shut the cameras off. We have a thing here. We're going to... All right. Where should we send people to find you on the internet? At Terrible. Don't worry, go to Clay Travis' Twitter account. We tweet at Terrible.
Starting point is 00:46:46 Terrible on Instagram. How are you on Instagram? Are you good on Instagram? Are you popular on Instagram? I got a couple followers. How many you got? 51,000. Oh, I got more than you.
Starting point is 00:46:56 I got more than you on Twitter too, or no? No. How many do you have? Two million. I got 1.5. You're actually going to pass me. I'm definitely going to pass you. Can we tell you a funny story?
Starting point is 00:47:06 I don't think we've ever told you this before. so when joe first started writing the uh the letter and uh we're trying to figure out like okay how do we uh you know get people to subscribe follow them on twitter whatever i don't know why but i was like i think darren roville follows me and i went i looked as he does and so i just was like on the phone with him didn't even tell him i was doing i just dm'd it to you i was like hey like this is a good story you should retweet it or something do it and i can't remember if it was the first or the second one but you did it and you responded and i was like he's gonna keep doing it and i just kept dming them to you and you kept retweeting them
Starting point is 00:47:39 at first it was like you know everyone says the first hundred subscribers are the first hardest i got like a thousand overnight we're like all right we're in business thanks darren so we owe you i've had i've had a tremendous run um you know i'm 43 years old i'm you look 20 i look 60 uh i you know when i when i went to get uh my spinal cord uh surgery because my mri showed that I was, like, a paralyzed person. They're like, no, it's congenital. And I'm like, are you sure I'm not patient zero for cell phone neck?
Starting point is 00:48:10 Like, literally going like this for 20 years. And I'm like, isn't it funny that it's C3 and C4 exactly where my neck would have been? That is true. That's true. And they were like, it's not possible to have sustained this type of damage. I'm like, I finally see you as I am. What's the story?
Starting point is 00:48:24 Who's the guy at the urinal with the two phones? Are we allowed to tell that story? It's Adam Schefter. Have you ever heard the story? No, but please don't talk about the bathroom right now. No, no, no. Who told us the story? It was McAfee, right?
Starting point is 00:48:37 Oh, McAfee? He said he walked in the bathroom. No. At ESPN. No, they were at the draft or something. Somewhere there. At Schefter. At Schefter.
Starting point is 00:48:45 Was peeing. Phone in each hand. That's how I envisioned you in the bathroom. Yeah. But anyway, what was I talking about? We were done. Oh, I'm 43. I'm, you know, I'm older.
Starting point is 00:48:59 I've, you know, I'm still working hard. I'm working hard in a different way. I welcome Joe. I appreciate that. You've been extremely helpful. Of course, of course. I appreciate that. Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
