Hey, it's Jason Woodruff, founder of the Poor Over.
Happy Election Day.
I wanted to hop on to encourage everyone to vote and to take just a brief minute to explain
how the poor over thinks about Election Day.
Now, anything that impacts anyone has at least some eternal impact because every single person
is an eternal image bearer of God.
And politics can impact a lot of people, so it matters a lot.
But Christians need to balance caring about politics
with a calm, unshakable confidence in God and eternity.
It's too easy to become anxious and make too much of politics,
pinning our hopes on
a political outcome.
God's plans are not dependent on who wins this election.
God will be in control and his followers' eternities will be secure, regardless of who
wins any election in any country at any point in time.
This idea of Christians needing to balance caring and responding to what's happening
in the world today
while not losing focus or their confidence in eternity has been a core motivator for the
pour-over since the very beginning. Back in 2018, I recognized that I had a very unhealthy
relationship with the news and politics, and I felt convicted and wanted to make sure that I
was keeping Jesus as number one in my life.
So I started summarizing the news
and pairing it with brief biblical reminders
of the same few things that I just kept getting wrong
over and over and over.
They were reminders to focus on eternity,
love hard to love people,
and to take action when learning about people
who were hurting in need.
I sent it to a few friends for accountability, but this really was a personal exercise.
Today, almost all of that is the exact same, except this podcast has 125,000
monthly listeners and the newsletter it's based on just crossed 900,000 subscribers.
So some quick math, that is over 1 million people who are getting
their news from the pour-over three times a week. Myself and the entire TPO team are
so humbled and grateful for all of you. If you want to support what we're doing, the
best way you can do that is to choose to pay. Everything we create is available for free,
and that is in part possible because of the thousands of people who choose to pay. Everything we create is available for free and that is in part possible
because of the thousands of people who choose to pay anyway. Annual memberships are $49.
That's about 30 cents per episode. And we've recently discounted the lifetime membership
to $99 for the election. Thank you so much for listening to the pour over. And I am praying
that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will be upon you this election day.
