Hey, this is Joe at the Porover.
And this is Zan at the Porover.
Today, we're talking about a vote to hold the Clinton's in contempt of Congress,
President Trump and other world leaders signing the founding charter of a Board of Peace,
a framework for a deal with Greenland, and other top news for Friday, January 23rd.
Stay informed while remaining focused on Christ with the Porover.
Here's your quote of the day.
Great is God our Lord.
is his power and there is no end to his wisdom. Praise him, you heavens, glorify him, sun and moon,
and you planets. For out of him and through him and in him are all things. Johannes Kepler.
Let's get started with some espresso shots. Capital Hill turned the Epstein spotlight back on former
first couple Bill and Hillary Clinton on Wednesday. After defying subpoenas to testify in Congress's
Epstein investigation, the House Oversight Committee advanced a pair of resolutions, holding both
Clintons in contempt of Congress. The couple argued the subpoenas are, quote, invalid and legally
unenforceable, saying they have already provided the committee with everything they know in sworn
statements. Committee Chair Kentucky Republican Representative James Comer praised the bipartisan
and committee vote saying, quote, no one's above the law, though some Democrats worry the resolutions
divert attention from the Department of Justice's delayed release of the complete Epstein files.
The contempt resolutions could hit the House floor in early February, and if passed, could lead to
criminal prosecution by the DOJ. Whether you're critical of government proceedings, or think they're
unfairly criticized, the command for Christians is to love neighbors and enemies alike.
That requires speaking about others with dignity and respect,
even if we feel like they haven't earned it.
James 3 says,
With the tongue we bless our Lord and Father,
and with it we curse people who are made in God's likeness.
Blessing and cursing come out of the same mouth.
My brothers and sisters, these things should not be this way.
Who among you is wise and understanding?
By his good conduct, he should show that his works are done in the general
gentleness that comes from wisdom.
President Trump has officially founded his Board of Peace, but several nations aren't getting
on board.
The Board of Peace was initially proposed to supervise the Gaza ceasefire, but at the World Economic
Forum yesterday, Trump expressed plans to use the board beyond Gaza, calling it, quote,
one of the most consequential bodies ever created.
Trump, who will chair the board and have veto power, said he wants to work with the United
nations to tackle geopolitics and invited dozens of countries to join.
More than 20 nations, including Turkey, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Indonesia signed
the founding charter.
Other world powers, including Russia, are still on the fence.
Several EU allies think France and the UK declined to sign, expressing concern that the
board would, quote, raise broader issues and may compete with the UN, not collaborate.
Here's a verse to consider when you can't decide whether to join in or stay on the sidelines.
If you call out to insight and lift your voice to understanding,
if you seek it like silver and search for it like hidden treasure,
then you will understand the fear of the Lord and discover the knowledge of God.
For the Lord gives wisdom, from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
Proverbs 2 verses 3 through 6.
A brewing NATO family feud has been dodged for now.
Taking the mic in Davos, President Trump said he would not use military force to acquire Greenland.
Hours later, he announced a, quote, framework of a future deal on Greenland with NATO Secretary-General Mark Ruta.
One option reportedly on the table would give the U.S. sovereignty over small pockets of Greenlandic land to build military bases.
Trump also walked back earlier tariff threats on eight European countries aimed at the U.S.
at pressuring Denmark and Greenland into negotiations, which markets cheered.
NATO confirmed that talks among the U.S., Denmark, and Greenland
are focused on preventing Russia and China from gaining economic or military influence in the region.
Danish and Greenlandic officials stressed that broad sovereignty remains non-negotiable.
NATO cannot make deals on their behalf, and no formal agreement exists.
As world leaders navigate the geopolitical chess board,
Christians should be committed to praying for them to be wise
and to work towards peaceful resolutions
while simultaneously placing our hope in God, not government.
1 Timothy 2, verses 1 through 2 says,
First of all then,
I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings
be made for everyone, for kings and all those who are in authority,
so that we may leave a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.

In other brews, here's a rapid round of updates.
Prince Harry is taking the stand.
The Duke of Sussex gave an emotional testimony Wednesday in his trial against the publisher
of the British tabloid Daily Mail, saying press intrusion made his wife Megan's life,
quote, an absolute misery.
Harry and six others, including Elton John,
have accused the publisher of, quote, breaches of privacy,
including planting bugs and paying officials for private info.
A Texas jury acquitted former Yuvaldi School Police officer, Adrian Gonzalez,
of all child endangerment charges tied to 2022's Rob Elementary shooting.
Prosecutors argued Gonzalez didn't follow training,
waiting outside instead of intervening.
First responders confronted the shooter about seven,
77 minutes into the shooting, which left 19 children and two teachers dead.
The defense countered that Gonzalez, quote, did everything he could.
SCOTUS seems poised to reject Podus' attempt to oust Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook.
After hearing arguments Wednesday, the Supremes cast doubt that Trump can fire Cook without
allowing her a forum to contest claims she committed mortgage fraud.
Justices underscored the Fed's historic independence and worry a ruling in number
47's favor could set a dangerous precedent for future administrations.
A federal appeals court paused a judge's order limiting ICE's use of force during
immigration enforcement actions in Minneapolis. The temporary stay allows federal agents to resume
broader tactics, including arrests and pepper spray, while appeals play out. The case is sparked
by protests over aggressive immigration enforcement in the city.
Attorney General Pam Bondi called the decision a, quote, victory.
And the nominees for the 98th Academy Awards are announced.
Ryan Cougler's Sinners set an Oscars record on Thursday with 16 norms.
Fellow Warner Brothers movie, One Battle After Another, Got 13, helping Warner Brothers dominate the studio scoreboard.
Secumming to Gravity, Wicked for Good, was shut out.
Conan O'Brien returns to host.
