Stay informed while remaining focused on Christ with The Poor Over. Here's your quote of the day. A happy marriage is the union of two good forgivers.
Starting point is 00:00:29 Ruth Graham. Let's get started with some espresso shots. Flooding continues to wreak havoc in the Southwest. And Governor Abbott has called for a comprehensive overhaul of the state's warning systems. It's easy to feel helpless in a situation like this, but the Bible promises that prayer is powerful and effective, causing things to happen that would not have happened otherwise. James 5.16 reminds us, the prayer of a righteous person is very powerful in its effect. Russia keeps re-breaking its own record for the largest drone attacks of the Ukraine War.
Starting point is 00:02:09 On Wednesday, the Kremlin launched 728 drones and 18 missiles into Ukraine. Then overnight launched an additional 400 drones and 18 missiles. At least 10 civilians were killed across both attacks. President Trump seems to be getting fed up. This week he rebuked President Putin for quote, killing a lot of people, called his diplomatic demeanor quote, meaningless, and directed the Pentagon to unpause weapon shipments to Ukraine.
Starting point is 00:02:37 Trump is also considering supporting a bill that would place so-called secondary sanctions on Russia, including 500% tariffs on any country that purchases sanctioned Russian products, including oil. Meanwhile, the European Court of Human Rights ruled that Russia violated international law, committing human rights violations, including murder and kidnapping, when it invaded Ukraine in 2022. As we mourn violence and pray for peace around the world, believers are reminded of how the
Starting point is 00:03:14 good news is of Jesus' coming kingdom. His Spirit offers supernatural peace in our hearts today, and His return promises peace in a renewed earth forever. Here's a prayer from the Book of Common Prayer. Almighty God, from whom all thoughts of truth and peace proceed, kindle, we pray, in the hearts of all people the true love of peace and guide with your pure and peaceable wisdom those who take counsel for the nations of the earth, that in tranquility your kingdom may go forward till the earth is filled with the knowledge
Starting point is 00:03:46 of your love. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. The CEO of X has logged off. Starting point is 00:04:14 as the company enters its next chapter owned by XAI, Musk's artificial intelligence venture. That chapter has already hit some speed bumps. Grok, XAI's chatbot, trained on X's content, gave anti-Semitic responses Tuesday, including praise for Hitler and suggestions that users with Jewish last names were more likely to spread hate against white people. Grok deleted the posts and apologized. Musk blamed the bot's eagerness to please, calling it, quote, too compliant and promising fixes. Critics say this was predictable, and the real problem is X's tolerance for hate speech.
Starting point is 00:04:51 Here's a verse to consider when you realize you, too, echo your inputs. A good person produces good out of the good stored up in his heart. An evil person produces evil out of the evil stored up in his heart. For his mouth speaks from the overflow of the heart. Luke 6.45. Hey, it's Emily from the pour-over. And things are feeling a bit expensive lately. I've been driving my kids all over town this summer, and those trips to the gas station
Starting point is 00:05:30 are starting to make my wallet sweat. Thankfully, I have Upside. It hasn't solved all my problems, but it's helped with the ones that cost $3.17 a gallon. Now I get money back every time I fill up. All I have to do is open the app, find a station with an upside offer, claim it, make my purchase like normal, and snap a pick of the receipt or link my card. Then money magically appears in my account. Okay, not magically, but it feels like it. You're spending the money anyway, might as well get some of it back.
Starting point is 00:06:02 Download the free upside app and use promo code TPO to get an extra 25 cents back for every gallon on your first tank of gas. Red Bull didn't give a reason for ousting its first and only team leader. Sources say team dynamics have grown tense as performances stuttered and rival McLaren has dominated the track
Starting point is 00:07:44 this season. Yesterday, President Trump's executive order limiting birthright citizenship was blocked again. A U.S. district judge granted class action status to the lawsuit, protecting all affected children, not just the named plaintiffs. The same protection is not extended to the children's parents. What would you do if you came face to face with a murderer sent to kill you for being a Christian? For Virginia Prodan, that question isn't hypothetical. Virginia was a small, petite attorney defending Christians in court in communist Romania. And she was really good. So good, in fact, she caught the attention of the communist regime. One day, a tall, muscular man walked into her office, closed the door, and pulled out a gun.
Starting point is 00:09:33 He barked, shut up, sit down, I'm here to kill you. Virginia was face to face with a trained assassin. What happened next would surprise both of them. Listen to Virginia's entire story on the Compelled Podcast. Virginia is on episode 31, which is titled, He Came to Kill Me. Listen on your podcast app or at compelledpodcast.com.
