Hey, this is Joe at the pourover.
And this is Zan at the pourover.
Quick shout out today to Ms. Cover and her social studies students in rural Indiana.
Her 8th through 11th graders listened to the porover every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to kick off class.
And she told us it's become their favorite part of the day, which absolutely made ours.
More than 100 students tuning in each week is just incredible.
Ms. Cover, we're so grateful for you and we're cheering on those classrooms.
discussions. Now for the news. Today, we're talking about allegations that former Prince Andrew
shared confidential info with Epstein, talk shows and the FCC fight over the equal time rule,
winter Olympics skating toward the finish line, and other top news for Friday, February 20th.
Stay informed while remaining focused on Christ with the pourover.
Here's your quote of the day. Trusting God does not mean believing
he will do what you want, but rather believing he will do everything he knows is good.
Penn Sandy.
Let's get started with some espresso shots.
Former Prince Andrew was arrested in the UK yesterday.
Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, who was stripped of his royal titles last year amid scrutiny
over his ties to Epstein, was taken into custody on suspicion of misconduct while in public
office.
Later in the day, he was released, without charges and remains under.
investigation. Authorities say the arrest was linked to allegations from documents released in the
Epstein files, including claims he shared confidential information with the late sex offender
during his time as a U.K. trade envoy from 2001 through 2011. Searches were carried out at
properties in Norfolk and Berkshire. The former Duke of York has consistently maintained his
innocence. In a statement, King Charles, Andrew's brother, said,
He said he learned of the arrest with, quote, deepest concern, and that, quote, the law must take
its course.
Whether we're satisfied with how justice is carried out here on earth or still searching for closure,
Christians can rest in the fact that Christ knows everything is completely sovereign and
pours out perfect justice and mercy from His eternal throne.
Psalm 47, verses 6 through 8 says,
Sing praise to God.
Sing praise.
Sing praise to our king, sing praise, sing a song of wisdom, for God is king of the whole earth.
God reigns over the nations. God is seated on his holy throne.
Talk shows in the FCC are fighting over equal time.
Yesterday, the Federal Communications Commission said it's investigating whether ABC's The View,
interview with Texas Senate candidate James Tolariko, violated the equal time rule,
a 1934 provision requiring broadcasters that give airtime to one political candidate
to offer comparable time to opponents.
Historically, talk shows have been treated like news broadcasts and exempt from the rule,
but the FCC now says it has, quote, no evidence that the shows qualify for exemption.
News of the ABC probe comes as CBS's late show with Stephen Colbert
pulled a separate interview with Tala Rico to avoid equal-time scrutiny.
Colbert said his network prematurely bowed to regulators and other FCC critics say the, quote,
government intimidation violates free speech.
CBS aired Colbert's interview on YouTube instead, and Tala Rico's campaign raised a record $2.5 million.
Here's a verse to consider whether you're fighting for more airtime or wishing for some peace and quiet.
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility, consider others as more important than yourselves.
Everyone should look not to his own interests, but rather to the interest of others.
Philippians 2 versus 3 through 4.
Team USA's had a golden week.
On Wednesday, Michaela Schifrin won gold in women's slalom skiing after failing to medal in Beijing in 2022.
Then yesterday, Alyssa Liu tripled her way to figure skating gold,
and the undefeated women's hockey team outscored Canada 2 to 1 in overtime to top the
podium. Meanwhile, Norwegian skier, Johannes Kleibo, extended his winningest winter Olympian
record with a 10th career gold. Ski mountaineering made its Olympic debut, and Nasgul, the Ring-Rath
Wolfdog made his Olympic debut when he crashed a women's cross-country skiing event. Now,
eyes are sliding to men's hockey. Team USA faces Slovakia in the semis today after its own
overtime win over Sweden Wednesday. Catch the final and the Olympic closing ceremonies on Sunday.
Sure, it's just a game, but sports are an opportunity to experience camaraderie with fellow fans
and to enjoy the thrill of watching athletes do what God created them to do. As you watch athletes compete,
thank God that He also made you to do beautiful things, and pray that you'd bring Him glory in all you do.
Ephesians 2, verse 10 says,
For we are his workmanship,
created in Christ Jesus for good works,
which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.
