Inflation just hit another new 40-year high. On average, stuff costs 9.1% more than one year ago, even higher than analysts predicted. Gasoline has seen the biggest price increase since last June, up 59.9%, but butter up 21.3% and bacon up 10.8% aren't helping either. Rising prices are really stressing people out. A recent poll showed the top four biggest concerns of American families are inflation, gas prices, the economy, everyday bills. The Fed's target is
Starting point is 00:01:06 2% inflation, and it's making increasingly bold moves to get there. June's worse-than-expected numbers all but guarantee at least another 0.75 interest rate hike later this month, and raises the question of whether a 1% hike is in play. Rising prices can make anyone anxious, yet difficult times are also an opportunity to share rather than hoard what God has given us. Remembering Jesus' command for radical generosity. Luke 6, verse 30 says, Give to anyone who asks you, and from someone who takes your things, don't ask for them back. COVID released a new software update, Omicron BA.5. The newest sub-variant now makes up 65%
Starting point is 00:01:48 of the U.S. COVID cases, earning the dominant variant of the month parking spot. While BA.5 is highly transmissible and immune-invading, health officials are emphasizing that vaccines are still effective at preventing severe symptoms and hospitalizations. Meanwhile, the FDA is adding another arrow to its quiver. It's granted emergency use authorization to Novavax's two-dose regimen after finding it to be 90.4% effective at preventing symptomatic infections. Novavax uses protein technology traditionally used in vaccines, unlike Pfizer and Moderna's mRNA technology. Speaking of shots, New York City, currently home to one-fourth of the U.S.'s monkeypox cases, saw its vaccine scheduling website crash due to high demand
Starting point is 00:02:31 after releasing just 1,250 monkeypox doses. Here's a verse to consider in the face of a potential eighth, ninth COVID wave. Starting point is 00:03:15 creating nuclear weapons, a major concern of Israel's. Today, Biden is in Saudi Arabia, a trip that will require even more finesse. The president called the country a pariah on the campaign trail, which could make things awkward, but now notes the value of a strategic partnership. It's expected that oil will be discussed, even if it's conspicuously absent from the agenda. At home, polls show most Democrats want a new nominee in 2024, though 92% said they'd support him in a Biden vs. Trump rematch. We shouldn't allow the success or failure of a
Starting point is 00:03:46 political party to consume our thoughts, emotions, or hope for the future. Regardless of the circumstances, our mission remains the same. Love God and love others.
