An 11-year-old from Uvalde appeared before a House committee via pre-recorded video to share her story of surviving last month's shooting by smearing a classmate's blood on herself and feigning death. Actor Matthew McConaughey, another Uvalde native, spoke from the White House, urging Congress to pass what he dubbed gun responsibility laws protecting both people and the Second Amendment. Congress is moving, but nothing is concrete yet. The House passed a package of gun law bills largely along party lines that has little hope of surviving the Senate. Meanwhile, a bipartisan group of senators is negotiating a compromise bill that would focus

on background checks, school safety, new mental health programs, and incentivizing states to pass red flag laws. Both sides seem optimistic it could pass. The LIV Golf Invitational Series teed off in London yesterday, sparking some headlines that

feel a bit more like TMZ than ESPN. LIV is an upstart competitor to the PGA Tour that has poached a few top players with promises of massive, guaranteed money. Dustin Johnson, ranked 13th in the world, is reportedly getting paid $125 million. That's $50 million more than his lifetime PGA Tour earnings. Just for showing up, Phil Mickelson is getting paid $200 million. But money isn't scandalous. The controversy is over who is cutting the checks. LIV was created by the Saudi Arabian government and is seen as a sports-washing effort by the regime to distract from their human rights violations. Roughly 90 women, including gold medalists Simone Biles, Ali Raisman, and Michaela Maroney, have filed a $1 billion suit against the FBI for

mishandling of allegations against Larry Nassar. The athletes claim the FBI failed to act after the USA Gymnastics first reported Nassar's sexual abuse in 2015. By the time the Bureau took any action contributing to his arrest in 2016, 70 additional women and girls had been assaulted. The suit comes after the DOJ's third refusal to prosecute the two FBI agents responsible for the alleged botched case. Nassar's hundreds of victims have already stuck the landing on lawsuits with two other institutions that failed to stop Nassar's abuse. Michigan State University agreed to pay out $500 million and the U.S. Gymnastics agreed to pay out $380 million. We live in a world marred by sin. The Denver Broncos have agreed to be sold to a group led by a Walmart heir, Robert Walton, for $4.65 billion, a record price for a North American sports team. Pat Bolin, the previous owner who passed away in 2019, bought the team for $78 million back in 1984. You're not just thirstier than normal. Gatorade bottles now hold 28 ounces instead of 32 ounces. It's just one example of shrinkflation, decreasing amount of product while keeping price the same.
