Starting point is 00:00:00 Today, we're talking about explosions in the Kremlin, King Charles' coronation, manhunts for shooters, and other top news for Friday, May 5th. Stay informed while remaining focused on Christ with The Pour Over. Here's the quote of the day, Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important. C.S. Lewis. Let's get started with some espresso shots. There were two explosions near the Kremlin citadel early Wednesday morning, but that's about all
Starting point is 00:00:41 anyone can agree on. Russia accused Ukraine of sending drones to attack the Kremlin in an attempt to assassinate Vladimir Putin, later adding that they believe Ukraine was acting on U.S. orders. Ukraine accused the Russians of staging the explosions to justify an expected large-scale terrorist provocation and retaliation. Ukrainian President Zelensky further stated that they're busy fighting on our own territory and do not have enough weapons even for this. A White House national security spokesperson says the U.S. neither encouraged or enabled Ukraine to attack outside its borders. And Secretary of State Blinken added that he'd take anything coming out of the Kremlin with a very large shaker of salt. Here's a verse to consider when you can't figure out
Starting point is 00:01:25 who's telling the truth, whether it's Russia, Ukraine, the U.S., or your children who have all denied involvement in the cookie jar incident. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. John, chapter 8, verse 32. Operation Golden Orb, also known as the Coronation of King Charles III, is happening tomorrow. The service begins 11 a.m. local, 6 a.m. Eastern Time, at the Westminster Abbey where the Archbishop of Canterbury will preside over a largely unchanged in the last millennium ceremony. Charles will publicly take the coronation oath and privately be anointed by the Archbishop, before finally wearing St. Edward's crown 71 years after becoming heir to the throne. Then, 5,000 troops will escort the newly crowned king and queen
Starting point is 00:02:16 riding in the not-so-subtle gold stagecoach back to Buckingham Palace. The day's pomp and circumstance ends with a six-minute Royal Air Force flypast, which the king and other senior royals will observe from the palace balcony. First Lady Jill Biden, Prince Harry, and 2,000 other royals, celebrities, and heads of state will be in attendance. Our goal is to keep the big things big and the small things small. It's not that the first coronation in 71 years isn't important. It's just not God of the universe important. Stay focused on eternity.
Starting point is 00:02:51 It changes everything. Hebrews chapter 13, verse 8 says, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. A shelter-in-place order was issued for downtown Atlanta Wednesday after a man opened fire in a medical facility waiting room, killing one woman and wounding four others, some critically. The suspect apparently became agitated while waiting for an appointment with his mom. After an eight-hour manhunt, the shooter was arrested in a neighboring county and charged with murder and four counts of aggravated assault. In Texas, the manhunt is over for the shooter who killed five of his neighbors.
Starting point is 00:03:35 After four days, the suspect was found hiding just miles away. Two others, including his common-law wife, have been arrested for helping him evade capture. Authorities have notified the Mexican consulate ahead of formally indicting the suspect, a Mexican national who has been deported multiple times since 2009. Christians have a hard job. We must simultaneously celebrate justice and come alongside victims in their pain without lessening our love for the perpetrators. Job chapter 12 verse 10 says, the life of every living thing is in his hand as well as the breath of all humanity. This episode is sponsored by Tuvu. Social media is broken, but it has potential. Starting point is 00:05:15 bringing rates above 5% for the first time since 2007. The central bank releases a largely copied and pasted statement each time, but this edition no longer included a line saying the Fed anticipates more rate increases. So economists are hoping the hike has ended. President Biden is deploying 1,500 troops to the U.S.-Mexico border to manage the migrant surge that's expected after COVID-era restrictions expire next week. The troops will take over admin, data entry, and warehouse support, freeing up customs and Border Patrol agents to focus on managing the influx. The move has prompted criticism from both sides of the aisle.
Starting point is 00:05:58 If you've been missing vaccine news, you're in luck. The FDA approved the first-ever vaccine for RSV, a potentially fatal respiratory illness for adults 60 and over. Manufacturer GSK got approval for the shot, which was 83% effective in preventing lower respiratory tract illnesses and should be available by fall. Pfizer and others are expected to roll out new versions soon. Former Proud Boys leader Enrique Torrio and three other members of the far-right group and others are expected to roll out new versions soon. Former Proud Boys leader Enrique Torrio and three other members of the far-right group were convicted of seditious conspiracy, joining 10 other men previously convicted of breaking the Civil War-era law for their actions on January 6th.
Starting point is 00:06:39 The charge carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison. The Federal Trade Commission is suggesting much more than a slap on the wrist after Meta's third strike for user privacy violation. This time, it's calling for a blanket ban on monetizing the data from users under 18, saying it found gaps and weaknesses in the privacy program for messenger kids. Meta is calling the move a political stunt. That's all we have for today. Thanks so much for listening.
