Starting point is 00:00:00 Today we're talking about President Biden's call for aid to Israel and others, the still chaotic and speakerless House of Representatives, Tesla and Netflix's latest earnings reports, and other top news for Friday, October 20th. Stay informed while remaining focused on Christ with The Pour Over today. Here's the quote of the day. Let us not cease to do the utmost, that we may incessantly go forward in the way of the Lord, and let us not despair of the smallness of our accomplishments. John Calvin
Starting point is 00:00:36 Let's get started with some espresso shots. Last night, President Biden called on Congress to approve a $100 billion combined national security package that would send military aid to Taiwan, Ukraine, and Israel, alongside funds to fortify security along the U.S.-Mexico border. The speech follows the president's seven-hour visit to Israel Wednesday, during which Biden announced that Egypt will open its Rafah border crossing, allowing humanitarian aid into Gaza, including $100 million from the U.S. The aid arrives in the wake of raging debate over who is responsible for a deadly explosion at a Gaza city hospital. Israel cites footage blaming a misfired Palestinian rocket, and the U.S. intelligence community agrees Israel is innocent.
Starting point is 00:01:31 As casualties mount, protests continue. At least 300 people have been arrested near the U.S. capital following a protest organized by two fringe Jewish campaign groups calling for an Israel-Hamas ceasefire. His spirit offers supernatural peace in our hearts today, and his return promises peace in a renewed earth forever. Isaiah 65 verses 17 and 25 says, They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountains, says the Lord. Yesterday was a twisty, turny day in Congress's lower chamber. First, Speaker hopeful Jim Jordan announced he wouldn't seek a third vote for the gavel after 20 fellow Republicans voted against him in round one and 22 in round two. Without support from Democrats, he can only afford to lose four Republican votes. It appeared the House was moving
Starting point is 00:02:54 towards a bipartisan plan to temporarily turn up the volume on acting Speaker Patrick McHenry's power, potentially allowing legislative votes on pressing matters like aid to Israel and budget bills to avoid the looming government shutdown. But after an hours-long meeting, Jim Jordan emerged, saying he did intend to run again. It's not clear when the third vote will be. Jordan said he first wanted to talk with his wife—always a good idea—and the 22 Republican holdouts. wife, always a good idea, and the 22 Republican holdouts. Whether winning or losing, suffering or rejoicing, facing chaos or certainty, followers of Christ have every reason to be content. Christ has delivered us from darkness and made a home for us in his kingdom. Philippians 4, verses 11 through 13 says,
Starting point is 00:03:45 I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me. Tesla stock dropped 9% after Elon Musk's car company reported a 44% decline in third quarter net income. The decline reflects several price cuts that have helped sell more cars but tightened margins. Tesla also confirmed that deliveries of the very delayed Cybertruck will begin next month. Not all of Musk's companies are cutting prices.

X says the small fee is meant to stamp out bots, and, if successful, may be rolled out everywhere.
