Elizabeth Elliott. Let's get started with some espresso shots. The White House re-released their Build Back Better proposal yesterday, now with a smaller

price tag, fewer programs, and a lot less enthusiasm from progressive Democrats. The new $1.75 trillion proposal is much skinnier than its $3.5 trillion predecessor because of the concessions the White House has made to win over a single moderate Democratic senator, Joe Manchin of West Virginia. The smaller price tag still hasn't won over any Republicans, but President Biden believes he now has the votes he needs. Here's what's still included. Free universal pre-K for all three and four-year-olds, expanded Affordable Care Act or Obamacare coverage, investment in affordable housing, and clean energy tax credits. Here's what's been cut. Paid family leave, free community college, and a program meant to accelerate utilities'

adoption of renewable energy. The U.S. economy is a disappointment, like a quit-their-real-job-to-do-a-podcast disappointment. In their third quarter, July to September, it grew at a pace of just 2% after growing at 6.3% in Q1 and 6.7% in Q2. Before the quarter started, economists were predicting 7%. So what happened? Economists are blaming the surge in the Delta variant, which now accounts for 99% of the cases in the U.S., also supply chain issues. Backups at ports, manufacturing delays, and microchip shortages have meant that bigger ticket items, think cars and appliances, simply aren't available. Overall, spending on these longer-lasting goods dropped 26.2%. In some positive news, initial unemployment claims dropped by another 10,000 last week to 281,000, another pandemic-era

Gone are the days where the hot topic at school board meetings was why number one pencils exist. Debates over critical race theory and masks have led to physical altercations and threats of violence against board members. In response, the Department of Justice issued a memo announcing the FBI would help local law enforcement with, quote, strategies for addressing threats, unquote, in these situations. The memo didn't get a passing grade from everyone. On Wednesday,

Senate Republicans requested Attorney General Garland to rescind the, quote, dangerous memo, warning that FBI involvement could have a chilling effect on the free speech of parents. They also noted that the request that originally prompted the DOJ memo has been withdrawn. Attorney General Garland defended the memo, saying it expressly supports, quote, spirited debate, unquote, and only condemns violence and threats of violence. Followers of Christ are not identified by their political affiliation, but by the love for others. And yes, that means loving people that you believe have unloving beliefs or stances. John 13, 34-35 says, I give you a new command, love one another.

The Albany Times Union reported the criminal summons was issued, quote, erroneously, unquote, and that a final decision on whether to pursue criminal charges has not been made. There's a new meme coin in town. Shiba Inu coin has surpassed Dogecoin as the ninth most valuable crypto in the world after its 900 million percent increase this year. A single coin is now worth, wait for it, $0.00006.
