Hey, this is Joe.
And this is Peter.
Our annual summer reading guide dropped yesterday, and it's hot, pun intended.
No matter what kind of reader you are, we've got something on the shelf for you,
from light poolside reads to deep devotionals and even picks for the kids.
Don't be shy.
Check out the link in our show notes to see what all the hype's about.
Today, we're talking about President Trump editing the proposed Iran deal,
a judge ordering President Trump's name be removed from the Kennedy Center,
the Spurs advancing to the NBA finals,
and other top headlines for Monday, June 1st,
stay informed while remaining focused on Christ with the pourover.
Here's your quote of the day.
You just never know what can come tomorrow from doing what you can do today.
Crystal Evans Hurst.
Let's get started with some espresso shots.
President Trump traded his Sharpie for a red pen,
on the proposed Iran deal.
Ahead of his Situation Room meeting Friday,
Trump suggested a, quote,
final determination was coming
to make the tenuous ceasefire less tenuous.
But the deal left the White House
with further edits around the removal of Iran's enriched uranium,
the future of the country's nuclear program,
and the reopening of the Strait of Hermuz,
launching another back and forth that could last days.
Trump said he's in quote,
hurry on Saturday, saying, we're going to make a great deal. Otherwise, we'll just go back and
finish it off militarily. Meanwhile, the strait of Hermuz is still locked tight. A Gambian-flagged
commercial vessel tried to break through Uncle Sam's blockade of Iranian port Saturday,
it was met with 20-plus warnings, then a missile to the engine room. Pray with us.
Gracious peacemaker, work peace in the hearts and lands of the U.S. and
and Iran. Thwart evil plans and bring to fruition those that lead to flourishing. May leaders be
creative in their problem-solving, wise in their choice of counselors, clear-eyed in their
negotiating, and compassionate toward the needy. Use these broken vessels to bring about good for your
people, rest of your world, and glory for your name. Until the day when every nation reshapes
its weapons into tools for peace, and wolves dwell among lambs, we trust you, our wonderful
counselor, mighty God, everlasting father, prince of peace. Amen.
Federal courts handed the Trump administration two setbacks Friday.
A U.S. district judge in Washington ordered President Trump's name be removed from the Kennedy
Center, saying only Congress can change the venue's name. Any signage or official materials bearing
Trump's name must be changed within 14 days.
The order also curtailed renovations scheduled to shut the venue down for two years beginning
this summer.
The Center's board said it will appeal, though Potus said he has, quote, no interest in continuing
without full freedom.
Separately, a Virginia judge temporarily blocked the creation of a roughly $1.8 billion
anti-weaponization fund to compensate individuals claiming to be targets of political
investigations. The DOJ says they are, quote, extremely confident in the fund's
legality, but Democrats and some Republicans on Capitol Hill have oversight concerns.
A June 12th hearing will determine next steps. Whether you believe justice has been served
or subverted in American courts, we can count on perfect justice and inexhaustible mercy
from the courts of heaven. The Lord is not tempted toward partiality, and his verdicts
will restore anything sin has broken.
As it says in Deuteronomy 32-4,
The Rock, his work is perfect.
All his ways are just.
A faithful God without bias.
He is righteous and true.
The NBA finals are set,
and the Champions League crowned its champion.
The San Antonio Spurs dethroned the defending champion,
Oklahoma City Thunder,
with a 111 to 103,
Game 7 Road Win Saturday, as a very weepy Victor Wenbanyama,
took home the series MVP.
With OKC failing to repeat, a new team will raise the Larry O'Brien trophy
for a record eighth straight year.
The Spurs return to the finals for the first time in 12 years
and host the Knicks Wednesday for game one of the 1999 NBA Finals rematch.
Paris Saint-Germain, however, did repeat.
beating English Premier League champion Arsenal 4 to 3 in a penalty shootout Saturday
to remain kings of the European pitch, the first back-to-back title since Real Madrid's 3-Pete
in 2016-2018. Celebrations in Paris turned violent, with over 400 arrests and tear gas
deployed. Here's a verse to consider whether you're feeling on top of your game,
down in the dumps, or more average than you'd hoped. I have learned to be contented. I have learned to be
content in whatever circumstances I find myself. I know how to make do with little, and I know how to
make do with a lot. In any and all circumstances, I have learned the secret of being content.
Whether well-fed or hungry, whether in abundance or in need, I am able to do all things through
him who strengthens me. Philippians 4 versus 11 through 13.
Hey, this is Ellie. Moving from Chile, Iowa to sunny California, completely switched up my
wardrobe needs. Suddenly, I needed pieces that can go from beachwalks to coffee runs to work halls
effortlessly. Quince came in clutch. I basically live in their European linen line, especially their
100% linen pants. Their pieces start as low as $32 and actually feel better with time. Where the more,
say less. It's the kind of quality I can feel, and the best part is the prices don't make me spiral.
I've actually started slowly replacing everything in my house, bedding, rugs, even my socks.
It's kind of a whole thing.

In other bruise, here's a rapid round of updates.
A, quote, unruly passenger made multiple attempts to breach the
cockpit of a United Airlines flight on Friday, forcing an emergency landing in Madison, Wisconsin.
The passenger was restrained on board by off-duty law enforcement, then detained by local authorities
on the ground. No one was injured, and the flight continued on to Minneapolis without further
incident. President Trump will pinch hit as headliner for America's 250th birthday party.
Freedom 250 announced Saturday, number 47, will kick off the 16-day,
Great American State Fair with a speech on June 24th, after multiple artists, including
Martina McBride, Brett Michaels, and the Commodores, backed out for political and safety reasons.
Trump suggested canceling all musical acts in favor of a MAGA rally.
Shrey Parik buzzed his way to the script's national spelling beat title Thursday.
The 14-year-old California won a spell-off tiebreaker, spelling a record 32 words in 90 seconds.
to claim the $52,500 prize on the winning word, Bromocryptine.
Redemption really is sweeter than honey,
as Parik finished 3rd in 2024 and lost at his school bee last year.
That loud boom that startled Floridians on Friday
was Blue Origin's rocket exploding during test firing,
damaging the launch pad and rocking a few houses,
but causing no deaths or injuries.
Jeff Bezos, who owns Blue Origin,
called it a, quote, very rough day, but promised to rebuild.
Blue Origin is supposed to play a central role in NASA's Artemis Moon program.
That loud boom that startled Bostonians on Saturday afternoon
was a three-foot wide meteor, hitting Earth's atmosphere at 75,000 miles per hour.
NASA said, quote, the energy released at breakup is estimated to be equivalent to about 300 tons of TNT,
and that any pieces that didn't burn up likely landed in the ocean.
And that's all the news we have for you today.
But here's a good word you can take with you as you start your week.
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
As always, thanks for listening, TPOFam.

might surprise you. In today's world, it's easy to turn Jesus into a life coach, a therapist, or a
political ally. We don't want a disruptive savior, just a convenient one. In their book,
The Missing Messiah, Kyle Eiddleman and Mark Moore will help you understand how the culture
we live in has taught us to reshape Jesus into our own image and will teach you how to stop
treating him as an accessory and start following him as king. If you believe there's a more
revolutionary, more majestic Messiah than the one you've always heard about, visit missingemessiah.com
