Today's episode is brought to be paid by their schools,
and other top news for Monday, June 9th. Stay informed while remaining focused on Christ with the pour-over today.
Here's our quote of the day,
The cross is the surest, truest, and deepest window on the very heart and character of the living and loving God.
N.T NT Wright.
Let's get started with some espresso shots.
President Trump took control of part of California's National Guard,
deploying 2,000 members who would otherwise report
to Governor Newsom to quell immigration protests
in Los Angeles.
Protests began Friday night after ICE arrested 44 people across Los Angeles on alleged immigration
violations.
ICE's acting director, Todd Lyons, said that night over 1,000 rioters surrounded and attacked
a federal building and accused the LA Police Department of taking over two hours to respond
to ICE officers' request for assistance.
The LAPD denied this, saying they responded,
quote, as swiftly as conditions safely allowed, end quote,
dispersed the crowd and arrested over 100 people.
Governor Newsom said Trump's rare move
to federalize California's National Guard
is, quote, purposefully inflammatory
and will only escalate tensions, end quote,
urging protesters to remain peaceful.
Yesterday, Defense Secretary Hegsteth said active-duty Marines may be deployed if violence
continues.
Even in the face of conflict, believers are called to live with wisdom and humility, cultivating
peace even when, especially when, it's difficult.
James 3, 17-18 says,
But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peace-loving, gentle, compliant, full of mercy
and good fruits, unwavering, without pretense.
And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who cultivate peace.
in peace by those who cultivate peace. Kilmar Abrego-Garcia, the man mistakenly deported to El Salvador in March, is back on American
soil after being indicted.
Abrego-Garcia arrived in Tennessee on Friday, where he faces human smuggling and conspiracy charges.
Federal prosecutors claim Abrego Garcia used his position in the MS-13 gang to transport
migrants, some of whom prosecutors claim he abused, in an international smuggling ring
that brought, quote, thousands of undocumented aliens into the US. His attorney, who denies Abrego Garcia was a member of MS-13,
called the criminal charges quote-unquote fantastical
and criticized the indictment as an abuse of power, not justice.
Abrego Garcia entered the US illegally in 2012
and lived in Maryland for 13 years.
The Supreme Court unanimously ruled his deportation violated a 2019 court order
shielding him from being returned to his native El Salvador.
In a divisive political climate, followers of Christ have an opportunity
to show that our ultimate allegiance is to Him,
imitating our just and merciful Father, root for justice while retaining love for all parties,
legal and illegal immigrants, ICE agents, federal judges and prosecutors, and your neighbors,
desiring restoration, not revenge.
Isaiah 30 verse 18 says,
The Lord is waiting to show you mercy,
and is rising up to show you compassion,
for the Lord is a just God.
All who wait patiently for him are happy.
College athletes can now officially, officially get paid by their colleges. A ruling by Judge Claudia Wilkin and three different antitrust lawsuits brought against
the NCAA, all of which claimed it was illegally limiting athletes' earning power.
The NCAA will pay $2.8 billion in back damages to athletes who competed since 2016, and going
forward each school can pay student-athletes up to a certain limit.
For 2025-2026, each school's student-athlete payroll is expected to be capped at $20.5
million.
That limit will increase each year over the next decade.
Payments from the salary pool are in addition to scholarships and other benefits athletes could already receive.
Student athletes can also still sign their own NIL, aka name-image likeness deals,
but those will now be monitored by an independent group called the College Sports Commission.
called the College Sports Commission. Here's a verse to consider whether or not the judge's ruling gave your bank account a boost.
And my God will supply all your needs according to his riches and glory in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4.19
With over 1,000 translations and every type of decorative edition, it's easy to forget
how many people can't even get their hands on a single copy of the Bible in their native
language.
That's why we've partnered with CREW.
CREW is missionaries in almost every country, but they need more Bibles.
One missionary said, I've never seen such a thirst for the word of God in my country.
Let's quench that thirst.
For just $24 a month, you can provide three people with Bibles every month.
As a bonus, CRU will provide meals to 12 hungry individuals through their humanitarian ministry
and send you a free TPO coffee mug. Simply text POUR to 71326 or visit give.crew.org.pour.

In other brews, here's a rapid round of updates.
President Trump and Elon Musk are in their messy breakup era.
It began after Musk slammed the Trump-backed One Big Beautiful bill as a quote,
disgusting abomination, that would bankrupt America and quickly escalated.
White House aides reportedly scheduled a reconciliation call, but it never happened.
On Saturday, President Trump warned of serious consequences if Musk began funding Democratic
candidates.
On Friday, the Supreme Court granted Doge access to American social security data in
a 6-3 ideological line vote.
The order directed the Social Security Administration to provide the access needed for Doge's team
to, quote, do their work, prompting applause from the White House.
Dissenting Justice Kentonji Brown Jackson said giving Doge, quote, unfettered data
access creates, quote, grave privacy risks.
21-year-old Coco Goff became the first American woman to win the French Open in a decade,
Coco Goff became the first American woman to win the French Open in a decade, pulling off a three-set victory Saturday over world number one, Irina Sabalenka.
Goff fell behind early, but battled back against gushing winds to claim her second Grand Slam.
Meanwhile, Spain's Carlos Alcaraz mounted an epic comeback to beat Italy's Yannick Siner on the men's side.
The labor market keeps defying gravity.
I'm sorry, you really probably were not ready for that.
But back to your update on the economy.
U.S. employers added 139,000 jobs in May, more than economists expected.
Unemployment held steady at 4.2 percent, wages crept up, and household labor participation,
aka the percent of adults in the job game, dipped slightly.
The news is likely to cement the Federal Reserve's plan to keep interest rates unchanged for now.
The ex-police chief who broke out of an Arkansas prison two weeks ago is back behind bars.
The escapee, serving 80 years for rape and murder, was recaptured just one and a half
miles from the prison.
Meanwhile, two of the ten escaped NOLA inmates remain at large, one of whom has reportedly
been keeping his Instagram up to date, posting at least once since the jailbreak.
And that's all we have for today.

As Christians, financial planning isn't just about retirement. It's about faithful stewardship
of what God's given you. Stewardship investments helps families invest wisely, give generously,
and align their portfolios with biblical values. That means avoiding companies tied to things like pornography, abortion, and trafficking,
and investing in those that promote human flourishing.
