Let's get started with some espresso shots. Two pilots were killed, and 41 people injured late Sunday in LaGuardia Airport's first fatal plane crash since 1992. An Air Canada Express jet landing from Montreal and carrying 72 passengers and four crew
Starting point is 00:01:03 struck a Port Authority fire truck that was crossing the runway just before midnight. Air traffic control had cleared the truck to cross in order to respond to the report of an odor on a nearby plane. Recordings reveal the controller realizing the mistake in shouting for the truck to stop seconds before the crash. A flight attendant was ejected over 300 feet, still strapped to her jump seat, which is specifically designed to withstand crashes. and survived, suffering only a fractured leg. LaGuardia closed for 14 hours, canceling over 600 flights. The National Transportation Safety Board has recovered both black boxes and has launched a full investigation.

Amen. The U.S. and Iran are in conflict over whether they're at the negotiating table. On Monday, President Trump announced that his administration held, quote, very good and productive talks with Iranian leaders and promised to back off his plan. to, quote, obliterate Iran's power plants for five days. Iran denied the claims and continued sending waves of missiles
Starting point is 00:03:22 at Israel and surrounding Gulf states. Yesterday, Iranian leaders took a more peaceful position, saying they had received negotiation points from the U.S. via mediators and maintaining that the Strait of Hormuz, quote, is open to all. The White House says peace talk plans remain, quote, fluid. Meanwhile, stocks and energy prices are still yo-yoing alongside war updates. Global markets rallied and crude oil prices had dropped Monday following Trump's announcement, but moved in unfavorable directions again yesterday after Iran strikes.

Meanwhile, March Madness rolls into the Sweet 16 this week. In the men's bracket, number 9 Iowa knocked out number one Florida. Arizona, Michigan, and Duke are the remaining top seats. On the women's side, all four number one seats cruised through, while number 10 Virginia pulled the tournament's biggest upset yet,

Off the court, Republican and Democrats, Democrats senators introduced the prediction markets are gambling Act Monday, which would ban futures betting platforms like Kalshine Polymarket from accepting sports bets through a federal regulatory loophole. In other brews, here's a rapid round of updates. DHS has a new head of security. Then-Senner Mark Wayne Mullen of Oklahoma, was confirmed by the Senate Monday and sworn in yesterday as the new Secretary of Homeland Security. The former professional MMA fighter, plumber, and cow rancher, who's taking over a controversial
Starting point is 00:07:48 and currently closed apartment, said he hopes that in six months, DHS won't be, quote, the lead story every single day. Airports are getting extra ice. On Monday, hundreds of ice agents were deployed to 14 U.S. U.S. airports as TSA lines and staffing shortages continue to grow. Bordersar Tom Homan said ICE agents, untrained to screen bags and passengers, would assist TSA with non-screening duties like guarding exits. Over 400 working without paid TSA agents have quit while DHS remains unfunded. A Texas refinery went up in flames Monday. An explosion at Valero's oil refinery in Port Arthur sent thick black smoke skyward.
Starting point is 00:08:41 Try saying that five times fast, prompting a nearly 12-hour shelter-in-place order for nearby residents. Officials believe an industrial heater caused a blast. No injuries were reported, and the fire was extinguished by early Tuesday morning. Mail-in ballots are in the hot seat. The Supreme Court heard arguments Monday over whether states can count mail-in ballots that arrive after election day. The conservative majority appeared skeptical of Mississippi's five-day grace period law, and ruling against it could eliminate similar policies in 13 additional states and D.C., ahead of November's midterms. A decision is expected by late June.
Starting point is 00:09:27 Musk's Empire is getting into the chip business. Elon Musk announced TerraFab over the weekend, a $20 to $25 billion chip manufacturing joint venture among Tesla, SpaceX, and XAI in Austin, Texas. The complex would produce chips for Tesla vehicles and Optimus robots, as well as AI satellites in space. Musk called it, quote, the most epic chip-building exercise in history by far.
