Let's start with some espresso shots. The FBI's Mar-a-Lago search warrant was unsealed Friday.

It shed some light on the situation, but did little to dispel much of the country's, um, tension. The warrant showed that former President Trump is being investigated for potential violations of the Espionage Act related to mishandling classified documents after leaving office. The National Archives retrieved 15 boxes of documents, some classified, in February, and Trump's team turned over additional documents in response to a subpoena in June. However, the FBI was reportedly tipped off about more classified documents, potentially related to nuclear weapons, prompting last Monday's raid. The FBI recovered 11 sets of documents marked as classified and one set marked as sensitive, compartmented information, indicating one of the highest levels of classification.

Trump and his team say he had declassified those documents before leaving office and call the raid a politically motivated witch hunt. Another delegation landed in Taiwan yesterday, 12 days after Speaker Pelosi's trip that made Beijing more than a wee bit angry. Led by Senator Ed Markey, three Democratic House representatives

and a Republican congressional delegate from American Samoa will meet Taiwanese leaders to discuss regional security, trade, and investment. Chinese aircraft have been crossing into Taiwan's defense zone on a daily basis since that first U.S. visit, and 22 Chinese military aircraft and six naval ships were in the area yesterday. China views Taiwan as a renegade territory and objects to it having official contact with foreign governments. While the U.S. doesn't officially recognize it as a sovereign country, it does maintain a strong relationship with the island and the Taiwanese leadership said recent U.S. visits demonstrate firm support. On Friday, Sir Salman Rushdie, the 75-year-old award-winning author, was preparing to deliver a lecture near Buffalo, New York, when a man jumped on stage and stabbed him repeatedly. Rushdie suffered serious injuries to his liver, arm, and eye, but is recovering and reportedly joking with friends. Rushdie is no stranger to danger. Since he penned his controversial novel, The Satanic Verses, in 1998, Rushdie has been subject to assassination threats, faced a $3 million bounty, and spent years in hiding. The book's depiction of Muhammad angered Iran's supreme leader, who pronounced a fatwa calling on all Muslims to kill Rushdie for

blasphemy. The suspect, 24-year-old Hady Matar, pleaded not guilty to felony charges of attempted second-degree murder and is being held without bail. We live in a world marred by sin. The Padres' young all-star shortstop tested positive for Clostobol, a banned performance enhancing substance, and will sit out for the rest of the season plus the beginning of the next.
