Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invoked Canada's Emergencies Act for the first time in the nation's history, which both froze millions of dollars raised on give-send-go to support the Freedom Convoy's COVID mandate protests and gave law enforcement the green light to unblock streets and border crossings. Equipped with riot gear, police forcibly removed protesters in Ottawa using batons, stun grenades, plastic bullets, and tear gas. As of Sunday morning, 191 people were arrested, mostly on charges of mischief, and 57 vehicles were towed. Ontario, which is Ottawa's province, will be speeding up its plan to remove proof of vaccination requirements and to lift indoor capacity limits. The games were also riddled with controversy, including Chinese human rights violations, strict COVID-19 restrictions in a closed loop, and Russian Kamila Villieva's doping scandal. U.S. cases are down 86.5% since peaking on January 14th, and the trend seems poised to continue. favorites are down. Peloton is down 82%, Zoom is down 77%, Roblox is down 63%, and Netflix is down 43%. In other news, Buckingham Palace announced that the Queen tested positive for COVID, but said that the thrice-vaxxed royal is experiencing only mild symptoms. President Biden said that he was convinced that President Putin had made the decision to invade Ukraine, and it was reported yesterday that the Kremlin had formally issued attack orders. As of writing, there was no news of an invasion. Kim Potter, the former Minneapolis police officer, was sentenced to two years in prison on Friday for the death of 20-year-old Daunte Wright. She said she mistook her gun for a taser. Judge Chu defended the shorter sentence, which could have been seven years, because Potter was quote, a cop who made a tragic mistake. Customs and Border Patrol published its January report showing just over 186,000 encounters with migrants.

The figure represents a slight decline from December's 205,000 encounters, but nearly double from last January's 95,000 encounters. A Gallup poll found that 20.8% of Gen Z identify as LGBTQ+, defined by Gallup as, quote, something other than heterosexual.
