Russia is not backing down. The Northeast has snowed in. Tom Brady is maybe retiring?
And other top news for Monday, January 31st. Stay informed while remaining focused on Christ
with The Pour Over. Here's the quote of the day. Our work is great. Our time is short.
The consequences of our labors are infinite. John Newton.
Let's get started with some espresso shots.
It seems that everyone is expecting Russia to invade Ukraine. Except Ukraine. Ukrainian
President Zelensky is telling his Western allies, we don't need this panic, and that the real threat
to Ukraine is simply the fear of invasion, which is destabilizing the country. His Western allies,
the U.S., U.K., and other NATO members, disagree and are continuing to prepare. The U.S. is moving
more troops to Eastern Europe, and NATO is weighing activating a 40,000-troop response force.
Meanwhile, Russia maintains it has no plans to invade, but has been moving blood and other
combat medical supplies to the border. Meanwhile, U.S. senators are preparing sanctions for Russia with a vote possible this week. Some measures would take
effect immediately, with more crushing sanctions imposed only if Russia invades Ukraine.
A verse to consider when reading about negotiations with Russia.
First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be
made for everyone, for kings and all those who are in
authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 1 Timothy 2, 1 and 2.
Chugi, NFT, Omicron, and now Bombogenesis? The last few years have certainly grown our
vocabulary. Bombogenesis is a meteorological
phenomenon resulting from cold winter air combining with warm air from the ocean,
which creates a low pressure zone. The lower the pressure, the bigger the storm. It's what
created Saturday's bomb cyclone, a massive winter storm that dumped 30 inches of snow,
or roughly two and a half feet, or.00047 miles, on parts of the East Coast. Over 100,000 homes were without power in
Massachusetts, and three people died in shoveling-related accidents in New York. The storm's
effects could be felt as far south as Florida, where temperatures drop to 32 degrees Fahrenheit,
causing iguanas to fall from the trees. Really. Large-scale weather events and natural disasters
remind us that all of the world has been affected by sin.
But Christians can look forward to an eternity where there's redemption not just for people, but for creation itself.
Romans 8, 18, and 19 says,
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is going to be revealed to us.
For the creation eagerly waits with anticipation for God's sons to be revealed.
Everyone was shocked to hear that seven-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady was retiring,
and even Tom Brady himself was surprised. Saturday, reports citing sources close to Brady
said that he was deflating his footballs and hanging up his cleats after 22 seasons in the NFL.
Lots of goat-worthy tributes
flooded in, including from the NFL and Brady's own business, TB12, until Brady's agent said that
Brady actually hadn't made a decision on his retirement just yet. Then to clear things up,
Tom's dad said his son definitely wasn't retiring. So yeah, everyone's definitely on the same page.
The NFL excitement continued yesterday with the AFC and NFC championships. The Cincinnati Bengals staged an 18-point comeback to upset the Kansas City Chiefs in
overtime, earning a spot opposite the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIV on February 13th.
Too often we let eternally insignificant things, like sports, control our mood and behavior.
It's not wrong to enjoy these things, but remember that whether your team wins or loses, nothing of true importance has changed. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday
and today and forever. Hebrews 13.8. Today's episode is sponsored by His Productions.

A bridge in Pittsburgh collapsed Friday, dropping a city bus and five cars into a ravine. Thankfully, no one died. The
collapse came hours before President Biden was already scheduled to visit Pittsburgh to promote
his $1 trillion infrastructure bill, which includes $1.6 billion for bridges in Pennsylvania.
This includes $1.6 billion for bridges in Pennsylvania. Yesterday, North Korea uncorked its longest-range missile test in five years, its seventh test
this month, less than two weeks after making veiled threats of resuming its testing of
nuclear devices.
It's believed the sudden flurry of activity is meant to pressure the U.S. into resuming
stalled negotiations.
Rafael Nadal rallied for being down two sets to beating Daniil Medvedev and
winning the Australian Open. This win gave Nadal his 21st Grand Slam title and broke his three-way
tie with Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic for most men's Grand Slam titles. That's all we have
for today. Thanks so much for listening. If you're thinking, I want to help more Christians stay
informed while remaining focused on Christ, here's a quick breakdown on how you can best support us. If you're listening
on the Apple Podcast app, please give us a five-star rating and drop a review. We do actually
read these and take them to heart. Like this review from Quinn. This show is what I've been
waiting for as a thoughtful Christian that is brokenhearted over the partisan divisiveness in
the U.S. This podcast gives people like me a way to stay updated on the world without the frustration and bias other news outlets provide. Quinn, thank you again so
much for taking the time out of your day to submit a review. We're really grateful for the feedback.
If you're listening on Spotify, please give us a follow and hit the notification bell to never
miss a new episode. There is also an option to leave us a five-star rating, but it's a newer
feature and it's only doable on your phone, not the desktop or browser app yet. And finally, the easiest way to help us grow is to simply send
this episode to a friend of yours. We sincerely appreciate all your support and hope that you
have a great rest of your day, and we'll see you back here on Wednesday.
